Broken
Pairing: Spencer x Fem!reader
Summary: When Rossi makes a comment which upsets the Y/N, Spencer is there to reassure her
Warning: Mentions of rape and murder. Talk about the medical condition Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome. Sadness. Fluff at the end
Words: 1,824
A/N: As someone who has this condition, this a drabble I have always wanted to read.
Master List HERE!
Tumblr media
This last case had been particularly hard for you. You’d gotten your diagnosis three days before you left for California on a case involving an unsub forcing women into pregnancy, only to kill the mother and sell the child. The latest victim to have been found, Amelia Bragg, had been found on in a ditch. She had been raped, repeatedly, but she had not given birth and wasn’t pregnant. However, the signature of the female gender symbol carved onto her hip post-mortem indicated it was the killer you were after.
“Why didn’t she have a child like the others?” JJ asked, looking from the screen where Amelia’s picture was shown to the files in her hands.
“She had a condition which made it difficult to have children… she was ‘broken’” Rossi had replied, glancing at Amelia’s medical records. “PCOS and endometriosis.”
“PCOS? What’s that?” Derek asked, looking towards Reid for an answer.
You jumped in first, not even looking up from the file in front of you, “Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome. Follicles surround the eggs, making ovulation difficult. As such, their periods are irregular, and they struggle with fertility. Women often experience head hair loss, while gaining excess hair in other places, such as their face, due to increased androgen. Also, they can experience increased pain anytime through their menstrual cycle, on their period or not. People with PCOS tend to struggle with their weight, due to the hormones. Also, they’re more than likely to suffer with mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety due to the imbalance of hormones. Endometriosis is where tissue similar to the lining of the room grows in other places, like the ovaries or fallopian tubes. Endometriosis causes a lot of the same problems as PCOS, but it is known to be much more painful.”
The room is quiet for a moment as the team takes in your words. You don’t look up, you can’t look up. Rossi’s words had hurt you and you couldn’t help but answer before Reid. It was a subject you had knowledge in, you had done for a while. You best friend, Jamie, had endometriosis and you had done your research after her diagnosis in an effort to support her.
“How do you know that, Y/N?” Derek questioned, his voice gentle as he realised you might have experience with the conditions.
You shrugged ad remained silent for a moment. You didn’t really want to tell them all. Sure, they’re your friends, family even, but did you want all of them knowing this? Finally, you settled on a half-truth, “I know people with the condition, so I learned about it.”
You’d caught the unsub in the end, but not before another girl had been kidnapped. Thankfully, the team had gotten to the house, and then into the underground ‘lair’ before she was raped. It was horrific done there. It was dark and with the mass of six women, all in various stages of pregnancy, crammed into the small space, it was dirty and humid.
The women had been sent to the hospital for a check-up and the unsub taken to the police station to be processed. With the case complete, Hotch decided to postpone the flight home until the morning, saying everyone deserved a night of rest.
And that was how you found yourself sitting on your motel bed, arm around your knees, as you cried.
You’d been having troubles for a while now. Your periods were irregular, only having one every few months, and yet you often walked around with pain low in your belly and back. You often had to wax your upper lip, while you often lost long strands of your hair. Your moods swung, and your weight was a like a seesaw.
You’d went through this for more than a year before you went to the doctors. They’d listen to your symptoms before ordering a thorough blood test which came back with results saying you had excess hormones. This wasn’t enough for a diagnosis, and your doctor had sent you for an ultrasound.
And there they were. Little follicles surrounding your ovaries. There was your answer, you had PCOS. You’d been fine with the diagnosis. You had friends with the same condition, and you knew the ins-and-outs of it. However, what Rossi had said really got to you. In that one instance, your entire mental approach changed and your mind told you that your body was broken. That you were broken.
 And that hurt.
PCOS was currently incurable. Medication could be taken to help the symptoms, but there was nothing to stop them. When you wanted a child, you could take medication which may help to be able to conceive but there was no guarantee that you would become pregnant. You were broken. The one thing you were designed for, as a woman, was something you couldn’t do. You were a woman, you were meant to bare children. Yes, you’d never through about having children before but now the choice had been taken from you.
There was a knock at the door. You held your breath, keeping the sobs back. There was another knock. A moment passed before the knock sounded again.
“Y/N, open up… please, I know you’re in there” Spencer begged, knocking on the door again. “Please, just let me in.”
Out of everyone on the team, Spencer was who you were closest to. When you had first joined the BAU, he had helped you with your paperwork. He knew you weren’t a huge fan of clubbing, so while the rest of the team went for drinks, he invited you to go with him to his favourite café. You’d get together every week to watch the newest episode of Doctor Who and when the season ended, you would just watch reruns. Spencer was the one you had warmed up to first, and he was still the person you’d consider as your closest friend.
Knowing that Spencer wouldn’t go away, you pushed yourself to your feet. You opened the door enough for him to squeeze through and quickly closed it behind him. Spencer entered the little room, moving to drop the armful of snacks on the bed before turning around to you.
He didn’t speak, just opened his arm. A fresh wave of tears burst forth and you rushed into his arm, burying your face in his chest and letting the tears fall. His arms wrapped around you securely, holding you to his chest tightly. His chin rested on your head as he held you to him, his thumb rubbing over the top of your arm where his arms wrapped around you.
After a few minutes, you calmed down, your snobs turning to quiet sniffles. He gently released you but took your hand, leading you over to the bed. You climbed on, grabbing a packet of gummy bears before you curled in his side.
“So,” he started. “You want to tell me what’s going on?”
You wiped your hand under your eyes, getting rid of another tear. “You remember that I told you I hadn’t been feeling to great and that I had that appointment at the hospital for some tests? Well, I got the results.”
“I know. PCOS” your head turned so quickly that it took your eyes a moment to catch up and focus on your face. “I know the symptoms of it Y/N, and… I had suspicions. Your knowledge of it confirmed those suspicions. You have much more than just a ‘friend offering support’ knowledge.”
“What Rossi said…” your lips rolled between your teeth and you shook your head, looking away from Spencer. “I wasn’t really bothered at first by the diagnosis but when Rossi said that Amelia was ‘broken’ that hurt. Is that how people see me, how I am, broken?”
“Of course, you’re not broken” Spencer reassured you, pulling you tightly into his side. “Rossi didn’t mean it like that. He meant it as broken for the unsub, in the unsubs mind.”
“I know how he meant it” you assured him. “Its just… I can’t help but feel like people will think I’m broken. And who would want a broken girlfriend, or wife? I’ll have these mood changes, weight problem, hair troubles for the rest of my life. And I’ll struggle to have a child too… Who would want someone like me?”
A firm hand grasped your chin and turned your face. Spencer looked at you, his face more serious than you had ever seen it. His jaw was set and his eyes held such an intensity, that you struggled to make eye contact.
“Who wouldn’t want someone like you? You’re amazing” he reassured you, his voice firm and full of sincerity. “You’re kind, funny, smart, a little too sassy at time, generous and…and gorgeous. You’re amazing. You helped me find a place for my mom, you bring me my favourite coffee and a doughnut every time I’m sad. You drive me to and from work because you know I hate to drive. You are amazing. Your mood changes? Everyone’s moods fluctuate, yours maybe a bit more than others, but that doesn’t matter. Your weight? Y/N, you’re perfect. And your hair? That shouldn’t matter to anyone because its not about what you look like, its about who you are. There is nothing saying you won’t be able to get pregnant. Yes, it’ll take longer and you made need help but still, it can happen. And if it doesn’t, there are other options. Like surrogacy or adoptions. And that’s even if you want kinds. You don’t have to have them. And the man you’re with should accept all of these things because they are what make you you. And you are amazing, you’re perfect. If they can’t accept you as you are, this perfect person, then they don’t deserve someone as amazingly brilliant as you.”
Your heartbeat wildly in your chest as you stared at Spencer. Your eyes prickled with tears again, but this time, they were in awe of the beautiful things he’d said about you. The way he spoke about you… you felt warm inside, you felt appreciated, cared for… you felt loved.
Your hand lifted to cup his face and your thumb traced his cheekbone. His eyes were soft as they met yours, the light brown orbs full of warmth. Your eyes trailed to his films, his prefect lips, and slowly, you leaned in. He met you halfway, pressing his lips to yours in a kiss.
The kiss was soft and gentle. His hand trailed from your chin to the back of your neck, tilting your head to allow him better access to your mouth. You sighed into the kiss, the warmth in your heart all consuming.
Slowly, he pulled back from the kiss, his eyes meeting yours again. “Y/N, you’re prefect and… I…I love you.”
You smiled at him. “I love you too.”
You pulled him towards you to kiss him again.

Laundry-to-Garden: How to Irrigate with Graywater – Modern Farmer@|how to use grey water in the garden@|http://modernfarmer.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Home-Greywater-System-Diagram.jpg@|21
What is graywater, exactly? Household wastewater from washing machines, bathroom sinks, showers, and bathtubs is considered “gray” because it is only lightly soiled and poses a minimal health risk. As long as you’re only putting biodegradable products down the drain, graywater is perfectly safe for irrigating plants. Kitchen sink water is technically considered graywater as well, but because of its grease content it often requires additional treatment before being used for irrigation.
In contrast, blackwater – what you flush down the toilet – requires intensive treatment before it may be reused in the landscape, which is not a feasible (or legal) DIY project.
[external_link_head]
There are brain-dead simple ways to recycle graywater – we list a few here – but they require sloshing around with a bucket or some other form of manual labor every time you want to irrigate. And there are high-tech methods as well, but these require serious plumbing knowledge and a significant financial investment. The washing machine method is in between – anyone with basic household tools and good mechanical abilities can pull it off in a weekend. It will run you a few hundred dollars for supplies.
The Basics
Laundry machines are equipped with a pump to push the wastewater out of the machine and into a sewer pipe. The brilliance of this system, first developed by Art Ludwig of Oasis Design in Southern California, is that is uses a washing machine’s built-in pump to distribute the wastewater through a system of subsurface pipes to irrigate individual plants around the yard. The water flows out into mulch-filled basins around each plant, where the roots can access the moisture.
This design is most effective for watering fruit trees, berry bushes, edible vines, and other large permanent plants. It is not useful irrigating lots of little plants, like flowers beds, lawns, and annual vegetables.
A few other caveats:
you can’t irrigate areas uphill from the washing machine (the pump isn’t strong enough)
you also can’t irrigate plants on a slope (though you can run the water downhill from the machine to irrigate a flat area below)
don’t use this method if you’re washing dirty diapers in the washing machine (that makes it blackwater)
don’t apply the greywater to plantings along streams or on swampy ground (to avoid contamination)
you may only use biodegradable products in your washing machine (this means no bleach, borax, or sodium)
Is It Legal?
Graywater systems are increasingly embraced by authorities across the country, especially in regions where water is scarce. Most greywater systems require a permit (and often a licensed plumber) to install them, but the washing machine system is unique in that is explicitly legal for homeowners to install it without a permit in five states – California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Wyoming – and with a little negotiation at your local building department, is likely to pass muster in most localities (though a permit maybe required).
Municipalities tend to be lenient in how they regulate the washing machine greywater systems because this approach does not alter your household plumbing, and the graywater remains below ground at all times, eliminating any health risks. Still, check with local authorities before proceeding. Graywater rules for a number of states beside the five above may be found here .
[external_link offset=1]
Step One: Calculate System Size
Before you get out your tools, pick up a pencil and paper and determine how many plants you are able to irrigate. Engineers have elaborate methods to make such calculations, but that’s not necessary for our purposes. For each load of laundry you run per week, plan on irrigating 1 to 2 fruit trees, 3 to 4 berry bushes, 3 to 4 edible vines, and 6 to 8 smaller perennial plants (such as roses, lavender, or artichokes) per load.
These guidelines are based on 20 gallons of water per load, which is typical for most washing machines. However, it’s best to check your owner’s manual for the exact water use of your model and adjust your plans accordingly (compact and water efficient machines may use half that amount).
Also, consider your soil conditions. If the soil is sandy, irrigation water drains away quickly; conversely, drainage is poor in heavy clay soil. If drainage is very poor, spread the wastewater over twice as many plants as recommended above. In extremely sandy soil, cut the number of plants in half to make sure there is enough moisture to go around.
Finally, use common sense in calculating the irrigation requirements of individual plants. A newly planted fruit tree requires a fraction of the water of a large mature tree. And drought tolerant species like olives and figs require much less water than moisture-lovers like blueberries and asparagus.
There is no need to get too scientific about the calculations – if in doubt, it’s better to overwater with this system because the mulch pits act as a sponge, allowing the roots to absorb the water they want and minimizing the risk of drowning the plants.
This diagram shows how to run irrigation tubing to the plant(s) you’ll be watering. CREDIT: Andrew Chahrour, Clean Water Components.
Step Two: Dig the Trenches
Washing machine pumps are not very powerful, so the plants to be irrigated should be within 50 feet of the machine, assuming the terrain is more or less flat. A network of flexible tubing buried in trenches below the soil will deliver water to each plant. The trenches can go up and down over modest humps and dips in the landscape, but should not run directly uphill. (the 50 feet doesn’t include any distance that the piping runs down an incline to reach the planting area, as gravity takes care of that part).
Starting from the exterior wall of your home closest to the washing machine, dig a shallow (2 to 3 inches) trench to the nearest plant that you wish to irrigate. Stop the trench at the edge of the “drip line” of the plant – directly below the outermost leaves and branches – and from there dig a trench to the drip line of the next plant, to the next, and so on.
Then dig a trench approximately 10 inches deep and 8 inches wide in a circle around the drip line of each plant. Another option that works well for smaller plants that are planted in a row is to dig a straight trench along the edge of the drip line on one side of the row (up to a maximum length of about 12 feet). The trenches will be filled with mulch to absorb the graywater.
Step Three: Lay the Pipe and Spread the Mulch
Lay 1” HDPE flexible tubing (often referred to as poly pipe) in the shallow trenches, cutting it and inserting barbed “Ts ,” “elbows ,” and other fittings where necessary. Run ½” tubing off the main 1” line to each of the deeper trenches, leaving a few inches of tubing sticking out into each trench. Secure the fittings with hose clamps .
Washing machine pumps are only strong enough to push water through 10 to 12 irrigation points at once. If you’re going to irrigate more plants, divide the pipe network into two zones with a three-way valve . The valve should be left accessible in a valve box so you can operate it manually.
1-gallon plastic pots provide a simple way to keep the mulch inside the trenches around each plant away from the outlet of each pipe so the water can flow unobstructed. First, cut off the bottom of the pot. Then drill a 1 ¼-inch hole into one side of the pot about 2 inches above the bottom. Fill the bottom of the trench around each plant with 4 inches of wood chips (compacted with your feet). Slide the pots over the ends of the tubing in each trench, with the bottom of the pots facing up so the top of the pot is resting on the mulch.
[external_link offset=2]
Then fill the remainder of the trenches around each plant with wood chips. Use a concrete stepping stone as a lid for each pot. Cover the tubing in the shallow trenches with soil, leaving a few feet exposed at the end by the house so it can be connected to the washing machine.
Step Four: Connect the Washing Machine*
Locate the flexible drain tube behind the washing machine and remove it from the rigid “standpipe” that drains the wastewater into a sewer or septic system. Connect the flexible drain tube to a 1” three-way valve using a 1” barbed male adapter and a hose clamp . Connect one side of the valve to the sewer standpipe using a 1-inch diameter PVC pipe and fittings, configuring the piping as needed so that the valve is against the wall in an accessible location near the standpipe and at least a couple inches above the height of the washing machine.
Choose the location where the piping will pass through the wall to connect with the tubing outside. Drill a test hole through the wall using a ¼-inch bit to ensure that there are no studs, wiring or piping in the way behind the wall. Then drill a 1½-inch hole through the wall. (Another option is to run the pipe through the floor and outdoors through the exterior wall of a crawlspace of basement).
Run 1-inch diameter PVC pipe from the open end of the valve through the wall, leaving about two to three inches of the pipe protruding on the outside of the wall. Use a 1” pipe strap on either side of the valve to support horizontal pipe and secure it to the wall.
Connect a 1” PVC “T” fitting to the open end of the pipe outside the wall, with the open ends of the fitting oriented vertically. Connect the bottom of the T fitting to the poly tubing on the ground with 1-inch diameter PVC pipe and fittings, as needed. Cover the last bit of poly tubing with soil.
Connect a piece of 1-inch diameter PVC pipe to the top end of the T fitting of sufficient length to rise above the height of the three-way valve indoors. Connect an air admittance valve (also known as an “auto vent”) to the top of the pipe (this device prevents foul-smelling air from circulating back through the washing machine and into the house). Seal the hole where the pipe passes through the will exterior grade caulk, both inside and outside the wall.
*Use Teflon tape on all threaded fittings. Glue unthreaded fittings together with PVC cement.
Operation and Maintenance
The system operates on its own unless you are using multiple irrigation zones. In that case, you’ll need to turn the three-way valve in the valve box outdoors once per week. Simply divide up the total number of loads you run each week into two equal sets. After the first set is completed, turn the valve to irrigate the other zone for the rest of the week.
The mulch in the trenches will slowly decompose and settle. Top it off once per year, and every few years scoop out all of the mulch and replace it (spread the old mulch around your plants). You may also need to periodically expand the diameter of the mulch trenches as the plants grow (especially for trees).
The three-way valve next to the washing machine allows you to divert the greywater into the sewer standpipe, rather than into the irrigation system, during periods of heavy rain or while making repairs. This is also useful if you wish to occasionally use bleach in the washing machine.
These are general guidelines only. For further information, greywater system supplies, troubleshooting advice, and guidance on using this method in a variety of contexts see the San Francisco Graywater Design Manual , Oasis Design , Clean Water Components , and Greywater Action .

a lot of people assume that because i have two moms, i don’t celebrate or observe father’s day, and there’s a little bit of truth to that
i don’t have a dad, i’ve never wanted or felt that i needed a dad, so there are years where father’s day comes and goes and i don’t even realize it
but i do have father figures in my life and i do celebrate them
so, this year i remembered
Tumblr media
to my grandpa glen
i love you more than anything. i miss you so, so much. i miss the grandpa that made me shirley temples and talked baseball with me and told me stories about jack webb and always insisted on being in the picture
i miss the grandpa that gave me his dragnet tapes just because i asked, the grandpa that cried when i was born two months after grandma died
seeing you today is very different. alzheimer’s is a hell of a disease
but you are still my grandpa, i still love you more than anything in the world, and i will always be your girl
Tumblr media
to my grandpa lyle
thank you for taking me out to ride mississippi bareback in my pajamas, no matter what my parents said. thank you for teaching me how to fish and kneeboard and taking me tubing even when you didn’t really want to. thank you for teaching me how to play cribbage and pinochle.
because of you, montana is my home just as much as california is. i am still a country girl at heart.
grandma is the talker, but you are the one who asks how the giants are doing this season. you’re the one who wears your cal poly sweatshirt (to aunt marlene’s house, because your grandchildren are smarter than hers) and never fails to tell me how proud you are.
i love you so much
Tumblr media
to my godfather scott
thank you for being my math tutor, advice giver, and trivial pursuit opponent. one day, i’m going to beat you. that’s a promise :) i wish we lived closer, because two years is way too long to not see you.
you are one of my biggest cheerleaders, never giving up on me even when my parents have no idea what classes i’m taking and i feel like i’m drowning in physics equations
i love talking baseball with you, especially when the giants are playing the phillies
i miss you like crazy and i can’t wait to see you again

How Poly Mailers Improve Shipping Efficiency for Online Retailers
Tumblr media
In the world of online retail, Poly mailers have revolutionized how items are shipped from point A to reduce costs and eliminate shipments. Lightweight and sturdy, these envelopes lower shipping fees while guaranteeing products are delivered pristinely.
You can pack them flat, which allows you to use less space for high-volume shipments, unlike the straight solid square boxes. Their tear and moisture-resistant makeup offers an additional line of defense when packages are on the road. Thus, online business people tend to realize better results with targeted digital marketing and automation whilst keeping their costs very low.
Lightweight and Cost-Effective Shipping
These mailers are lightweight, so they don't add any extra weight to your packages. Since you ship less, these shipping costs are also avoided, as it sums up if you have a great number of orders per day. What is more, they are usually cheaper than regular cardboard boxes as well, so they are an affordable option for retailers who need to ship small, non-fragile items.
Moreover, mailers minimize the demand for other packaging accessories. The protective coating resists tearing and punctures, so even bulkier items like clothing, accessories, and books, all things that really need to be bubble-wrapped or at least padded in a box, can safely tuck into these no-pinch bags. Lower costs and fewer resources are spent on packaging is less.
Durability That Protects Your Products
It ships in lightweight mailers but is designed to withstand the elements. Constructed from durable plastic, they are resistant to tears and punctures, moisture that helps keep your items intact.
You never want a flawed product that causes either a return or, even worse, a refund. With mailers, you lower that risk. Bubble mailers in Chicago offer the perfect solution for items that need a little more protection, with bubble cushioning inside of a sturdy exterior.
Space-Saving and Convenient Storage
Box packaging will occupy much of your warehouse space as boxes are generally large, and due to this, they require a lot more space. Compare that to mailers, which are unobtrusive and take up minimal space. It will allow you to save hundreds, even thousands of them, without making your workspace unworkable. You can easily keep on top of your shipping supplies without ever running out, even in peak seasons.
Whether you are sending specialized shipments like posters or canvases, mailing tubes in California make for a stronger alternative to mailers. All of these options have the same benefit as above: They save you space and allow for nice shipment or storage of rolling compatible bits.
Eco-Friendly Options for Sustainable Shipping
For most people today, sustainability seems to be a more and more crucial question. The good news is that eco-friendly versions of mailers are already available, made from recycled materials. By making the switch to these choices, you are helping your business reduce its waste and also an increasingly eco-conscious population of consumers.
Final Words
In the quick-moving universe of web-based business, having a smoothed-out delivery administration setup is basically vital. Mailers provide an efficient, budget-friendly alternative that can help take your business to the next level and promote happy customers. Visit Progressive Packaging Products to learn more.

Dust, Volume 3, Number 6
Tumblr media
(Graham Lambkin)
This edition of Dust dives deep into improv jazz, due to the stellar participation of Bill Meyer (five reviews!), but also makes time for Michigan post-punk, glowingly minimal electronics, an under-rated singer/songwriter and a wild and woolly one-man band. Contributors included Bill, Jennifer Kelly, Justin Cober-Lake and Mason Jones.
Mako Sica — Invocation (Feeding Tube)
youtube
Mako Sica is based in Chicago, but the trio’s music evokes reveries of terrain that is far less flat and urban. The reverberant guitars and stark, effects-laden trumpet played by longtime members Przemyslaw Drazek and Brent Fuscaldo inspire visions of high canyon walls and rocky desert escarpments. The winding, episodic construction of the record’s three pieces brings to mind a road movie, one where the protagonists are less concerned with getting someplace than they are with soaking in the locations along the way. And Fuscaldo’s mostly wordless not-quite-yodels, which are the element most likely to separate those on board from those who want to disembark, move things into a much more shadowy realm, a place and time where of those choral voices on a Popol Vuh record decided to break ranks and call out the ghosts in the night’s far corners. The singing is the music’s most uninhibited element, but it’s nicely balanced by the unabashedly straightforward drumming of newcomer Chaetan Newell. There’s a moment six minutes into “Potomac Blues” where he doubles the time and mental images of far-off vistas fly out the window while you imagine another marvelous movie of the mind — the one where Charlie Watts takes over a Savage Republic rehearsal and says “lads, this is how it’s done.”
Bill Meyer.
The Suitcase Junket – Pile Driver (Signature Sounds)
Pile Driver by The Suitcase Junket
The most notable aspect to the Suitcase Junket's new album Pile Driver is how relatively normal it sounds. Which isn't to say average. The Suitcase Junket is Matt Lorenz performing as a one-man band, complicating the act by using found instruments and throat singing. The set-up sounds like a lead-in for a gimmick, but Lorenz's songs are carefully constructed pieces of rock and Americana. His fuzzy guitar, played in open tunings, drives the sound toward a Southern blues feel — “Swamp Chicken” being the most apt song title — but there are hints of other sounds in there, too. The found percussion (tucked into, of course, a suitcase, at least for the road) increases Lorenz's idiosyncracy, and enhances that atmosphere of songs like the spare “Evangeline,” where a boxing ring bell adds to the strange meeting between the singer and titular love interest. Lorenz's songs carry themselves, aside from backstory or unique sounds, relying on his storytelling and melodies. The fact that he's sonically inventive is just a bonus.
Justin Cober-Lake
Jeff Herriott—Stone Tapestry (New Focus Recordings)
Jeff Herriott: The Stone Tapestry by Jeff Herriott, Due East, Third Coast Percussion
Composer, multi-instrumentalist and music professor Jeff Herriott is based in Whitewater WI. One supposes that he makes the music he makes without regard for any particular scene, because where he lives there isn’t one. Stone Tapestry certainly doesn’t fall neatly into any category or school, and is probably better for it. Two groups, the flute duo Due East and the Third Coast Percussion Ensemble, play this hour-long, nine-part piece. While the word tapestry implies the presence of a narrative, it’s easy to ease back and enjoy its languorous progress from delicate, woodwind-lead melodies to bright bursts of metallophone color action to dreamy, ambient textures without getting preoccupied with representation. Sometimes, the right sound is more than enough.
Bill Meyer
Neil Nathan – Flowers on the Moon
Flowers on the Moon & Don't Forget Me A/B Side by Neil Nathan
Neil Nathan's biggest moment came when his mellow cover of Jeff Lynne's “Do Ya” attracted enough attention to make it onto the Californication soundtrack. Then he recorded an album driven by his power-pop roots, touching Big Star for its best moments, without giving up Nathan's songwriter's sensibility. Now, for his second proper album, Flowers on the Moon, he's calmed himself back down, pushing further into his folk influences and 1970s AM radio. The title track is a Bowie-esque sci-fi trip with touches of Cat Stevens. In stripping back, Nathan foregrounds his lyricism and proves himself at the mic. “Diamond in the Sky” makes for a perfect April release, with its tale of his dad and baseball. The California country sound makes for a smooth flow, and Nathan drops his guard without crossing over into treacle. The disc's steady mood makes for a coherent listen, but as Nathan lets more of his flexibility show (as in his traces of psychedelia), he reveals himself to be pushing beyond just a follow-up folk album.
Justin Cober-Lake
Graham Lambkin—Two Points on the Angle (No Rent)
"Two Points on the Angle" (NRR44) by Graham Lambkin
Having confirmed his connections to humanity and song form on the recent double CD Community, Graham Lambkin looks both inward and into the virtual ether on Two Points on the Angle. While the sounds of family life and the neighbors’ cranked-up stereo register, the field recordings operate on the periphery of synthesized verbalizations. Are these Lambkin’s thoughts, lines from emails, or texts from webpages? The answer is probably yes to all, but if you look for a definite answer to anything you are missing the point. Words discomfit and confuse, sounds bore and delight, and the robot looms larger than people, environments, or music. Does this sound like a life that you’ve lived lately? Rappers and talk radio liars have been claiming for years that they’re keeping it real, but this is as real as it gets. Prepare to not know.
Bill Meyer
OUT — Swim Buddies (Comedy Minus One)
Swim Buddies by OUT
A brash, rough-housing, big-shouldered take on early 1990s post-punk, Swim Buddies blisters with crashing chords, rabble-rouses with shouted choruses.  At the harder end,“Chain Fight” rattles rapid-fire bursts of guitar/drums/bass spasm riffs, pulling up short every so often, as if just for contrast.  More lyrically, “Summer Tribute” weaves chain-saw guitars into languid nostalgia, bearing a whiff of Silkworm, even Red Red Meat in its ragged, rusty anthemry.  “You took the punch,” goes one line in this latter track, and yes, there’s a blue-color stolidity to these songs, a sweaty, heavy-lifting persistence that might remind you of Boston’s Black Helicopter. Three of the four principals – Isaac Turner, Chafe Hensley and Mark Larmee — were in another much-loved Michigan band called Minutes, which judging from the bandcamp, was pretty awesome too.
Jennifer Kelly
 Steve Swell/Gebhard Ullmann/Fred Lonberg-Holm/Michael Zerang—The Chicago Plan (Clean Feed)
youtube
So what do you do when your old rhythm section, the one with the drummer (Barry Altschul) who has played on some of the great jazz sessions of the last four decades, is no longer available? If you are NY-based trombonist Steve Swell and Berlin-based poly-reedist Gebhard Ullmann, you don’t pack it in; you implement The Chicago Plan. It’s simple in concept. You call up cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm and percussionist Michael Zerang, whose 20+ year partnership has sharpened their ability to play just about anything, and make a new band. And while it’s simple in concept, it’s rich in execution and bounteous in results. The wide-ranging material composed by the two horn players makes ample use of their new associates’ fluidity and fluency as they shift from lyric expression to dissenting abrasion, packing a dense but lucidly organized amount of musical information into each track. The musicianship is frightfully high; “Rule #1: Make Sure You Can Play Your Own Tune” delivers a theme intricate enough to justify its title, and then starts peeling off pieces of it and playing them faster and harder. And the opener, “Variations On A Master Plan (Part 3),” is an intricately constructed variation on New Orleans second-line groove as refracted through a prism of Ornette Coleman-inspired emotional complexity. Hopefully there will be a second chance to hear this ensemble, no plan B required.
Bill Meyer
Delia Derbyshire Appreciation Society — Blue Filter (Six Degrees)
Blue Filter by Delia Derbyshire Appreciation Society
Lovely edgeless tones ripple and flow in the gentlest way possible, filling the sonic space to the edges with modest crescendos and faint imprints of melody. Blue Filter is the first album from electronicists Garry Hughes and Harvey Jones, who named their duo after the pioneering British composer Delia Derbyshire (who composed the theme to the Doctor Who show). Musical ideas bloom slowly in these seven cuts, taking shape in radiant arcs and shimmering pools of sound. The long tracks, particularly, have a motionless, eternal quality; it is hard to say, when you listen, whether you are near the beginning, at the end or cast adrift in an endless middle that laps like calm water under your becalmed vessel. And yet, there’s a light and a pleasure in being marooned here. These serene sonic landscapes stretch in variegated, pulsing abundance straight through to the horizon. You’ll hear bits of piano, suggestions of strings, unassuming threads of melody weaving through, but there’s no sense of journey or narrative. It is all right here, just now.
Jennifer Kelly
New Music Coop—Invisible Landscapes (New Music Co-op)
Tumblr media
Good things come to those who wait, as well as those who did not know they were waiting. Back in 2010 the Austin New Music Co-op  sponsored a concert of works by two composers who are counted as members of the Wandelweiser Collective. Just why it took six years to get from recording to release may be a secret buried in some board meeting minutes somewhere, but since this music embodies a deep respect for patience, let’s not complain. The Co-op’s ensemble comprises four string players and three percussionists; Pisaro also contributes electronics to his piece, “Ascending Series (7) (evaporation).” The Pisaro piece is a sequence of elongated whispers and slides that are played quietly enough that you could overwhelm them by using a cigarette lighter. This quietness is deceptive, though, because if you listen closely you will hear a richness of sound that suggests that the whole ensemble was playing as one. The Malfatti piece is fairly busy by comparison with what he has played in the 21st century, but that still leaves a lot of room for stillness. The strings come to the fore on this piece, charting slow arcs around which rustles and metallic sonorities hover like clouds of sunlight-dappled dust. The arcs are separated by silences that reinforce this music’s command that you stop and experience it. Listen while you can.
Bill Meyer
Orphx — Archive 1993/1994 (Mannequin Records/Hospital Productions)
Unearthed from cassettes recorded 25 years ago, these 20 pieces mine an array of industrial influences. In 1993 and 1994, the trio (Rich Oddie, Christina Sealey, and Aron West) would have been listening to Europeans like Asmus Tietchens, Lustmord, Kapotte Muziek, and Sigillum S.; Japanese artists such as Dissecting Table and Grim; and fellow Americans like Schloss Tegal and Controlled Bleeding. It was a fertile time for dark experimental sounds, and these tracks illustrate a particularly grimy, basement-aesthetic style. The sound is mostly dense, like metal stressed to its limit: the soundtrack for a slowly-collapsing bridge. The cavernous drones, metallic clanks, and ominous pounding sometimes gives way to vaguely dreamy synths, but it all reverberates in unsettling ways. One gets impressions of undersea assaults and deep-space encounters with hostile aliens, or the dread of being trapped in a cave, likely not alone but wishing you were. Impressively, while cloaked in a past aesthetic, this archive doesn't feel particularly dated. While more low-fi than current outfits, the release fits perfectly on Hospital Productions, and should find a number of new fans there.

Album: Drunk
Artist: Thundercat
Genre: Jazz Fusion / Funk / Soul
Release Date: February 24, 2016
RIYL: Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, BADBADNOTGOOD, Hiatus Kaiyote, Kendrick Lamar
Best Tracks: 4, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 20,
Rating: 9/10
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Thundercat reigns the music industry as one of the most talented contemporary bassists-understood by his plethora of features throughout the R&B, rap, hip-hop, jazz, and soul industries. He plays the bass as if it were a guitar, with swift riffs that are almost unbelievable in their rapidity and intensity. Some of the artists that he has blessed his musical genius with by featuring on their tracks include Kirk Knight, Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Erykah Badu, Childish Gambino, Ty Dolla $ign, Kamasi Washington, Vic Mensa...the list goes on. Thundercat has been recording, producing, and writing in the music world since 2002, but did not release his first studio album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, until 2011. In 2013, he released his energetic sophomore album, Apocalypse, which I have definitely enjoyed more than the album prior, and which contains the absolute golden banger of a track, “Oh Sheit It’s X.” Two years later, in 2015, he released a beautiful, melancholy EP The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam. His newest release, Drunk, proves as my favorite Thundercat release yet, with twenty-three delicious, enticing tracks.
Drunk definitely sticks to Thundercat’s roots with its funk fusion. Certain tracks maintain an uppity beat, such as “Bus In These Streets (feat. Louis Cole),” “Blackkk (feat. Sounwave),” “Jameel’s Space Ride (feat. Louis Cole),” “Friend Zone (feat. Mono/Poly)” (my favorite track of the album), and “Them Changes (feat. Flying Lotus)” (first released on his 2015 EP). However, most tracks on the album feel slow, and almost painful in their decreased tempo. The general theme of the album is inebriation, which is made fairly clear with the album title. I imagine Thundercat intends his listeners to enjoy this album while intoxicated, as the final lyric to the 39-second opening track “Rabbit Ho” is “Let’s go hard, get drunk, and travel down the rabbit hole.” It almost seems as if Thundercat is beckoning his listeners to join him on an alcohol-included journey, where the listener dives alongside Thundercat into a rabbit hole--the rabbit hole seeming to be a metaphor for the remainder of the album. The album continues to oscillate on the topic of, you guessed it, drinking! Thundercat consistently describes situations in which he finds himself drunk throughout the album, whether he’s forgetting his wallet at the club in “Captain Stupido (feat. Flying Lotus),” discussing how “at the end of it all, no one wants to drink alone” in “Walk On By (feat. Kendrick Lamar),” living it up on restless nights in Tokyo in “Tokyo,” or struggling to “open his eyes, girl / cause’ he’s just too wasted,” in “Drink Dat (feat. Taylor Graves & Wiz Khalifa),” OR he’s “drowning away all of the pain” in “Drunk (feat. Flying Lotus).”
Another one of the album’s themes is space, demonstrated through musicality and lyrics. Thundercat creates a spacey, almost ethereal, vibe through his smooth bass riffs, his echoing and harmonizing ooh’s and ahh’s, and his expressive synths. It almost feels as if Thundercat embraces you with his bass melodies, comfortably cocooning you in his smoothness and flow in songs like “A Fan’s Mail ((Tron Song Suite II) feat. Sounwave),” “Lava Lamp,” “Jethro,” “Show You The Way (feat. Flying Lotus, Michael McDonald, & Kenny Loggins,” “Walk On By (feat. Kendrick Lamar,” “3AM (feat. Flying Lotus),” “The Turn Down (feat. Pharrell Williams).” Listening to Thundercat feels like looking through a kaleidoscope of sound--each instrument, riff, and vocal amalgamating in the tube, expanding and dwindling in energy, vibe, and feel. A thrilling funk-filled galaxy ride! “Jameel’s Space Ride (feat. Louis Cole)” more concretely and literally fulfills this theme of space. The song feels very fun and positive with fast-paced synth chords topped with fluttering synths in a higher octave; however, this joy is contrasted with the political message of the song as Thundercat sings: “I want to go right / I’m safe on my block / Except for the cops / Will they attack? Would it be ‘cause I’m black?” Track twelve “Tokyo” feels very out-of-this-world as well with its twinkling high-registered synths; the song transports you to a flattened space, as the synths sound like the soundtrack to an 8-bit video game, where everything is two dimensional.
Thundercat employs other subtly political or suggestive messages throughout the album. In “Walk On By (feat. Kendrik Lamar),” Kendrick’s irresistibly smooth verse topples Thundercat’s creamy, mellow melody, as Kendrick raps about his personal experiences growing up in Compton as a black man (and as you may or may not know, the personal is the political!). Kendrick calls out the lack of opportunity he had under the oppressive white supremacist, capitalist system in the states, and how “When the line becomes thin: be killer or fireman.” In order to survive, individuals in similar inopportune situations had to either participate in gang culture and submit to violence, or act as a “saving” member of one’s community and essentially turn against one’s community by fighting it. Through this, he alludes to the lack of stable, equitable, and community-building opportunities for young people in Compton.
The album is chock-full of comical lyrics, and the unconventionality of Thundercat’s lyricism adds to his ultimate talent and ability to work with complexity. In track fourteen “Friend Zone,” Thundercat struggles over a “bullshit” relationship in which he struggles over rejection (as he is placed in the contested “friend zone”). He tries to shake off the rejection (which he clearly feels not so nonchalant about, considering he wrote a song about it) by explaining how everything’s fine, he doesn’t need this person: “Because I’d rather play Mortal Combat anyway.” My favorite line of the song is “I will throw you in the garbage / ‘Cause you play too many games.” Oh Thundercat, you funny fellow you ! Thundercat also ends the tune “Show You the Way” with some pretty jocular and wise advice: “If you’re going to fill your water bottle with vodka, always make sure you have a friend with a bottle that actually has water in it.”
Thundercat’s fabulous repertoire of funk/jazz fusion music, along with a litany of features, is substantially enhanced with Drunk. His incredible music-making skills are explicit through his undeniable bass-playing abilities, and the overall spacey feel of this album enhances its engaging complexity. Thundercat recounts funny stories through his songs, while also making references to the political, ingraining himself as an integral voice, deserving to be listened to in the music world. The 23 tracks of the album run for a total of 51 minutes, as most songs don’t run over three minutes. I would highly recommend this album to anyone interested in rap/hip-hop, jazz, funk, or soul, but also to anyone who enjoys narrative music that is electrifying,  absorbing, and largely uncommon. Thundercat’s music is not like much else I have heard, but its uniqueness is part of its overwhelming charm. So make a gin and tonic, or grab a few beers, or maybe even a J (and if that doesn’t fit your fancy then make a good ol’ cup of coffee or tea) and listen to Drunk!!

Consuming alcohol water from plastic pipes: Is it unsafe?-- ScienceDaily
PEX crimp link method defined in this tutorial is suitable for all types (A, B, C) of PEX tubing, regardless of brand name or color. Normally, both kink fittings and also kink rings are readily available in dimensions 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1" and also 1-1/4". The tool has 2 jaws-- one is for cutting the ring (the sharp one) as well as one to support the PEX fitting from the inside (the plain one). Placement the PEX kink tool over the crimp ring equally, at 90-degrees to the tubes. See to it that jaws of the device are focused over the kink ring and also it stays in area.
PEX Plumbing Disadvantages
A 3/8-inch line is sufficient for sizes approximately 250 feet; 1/2-inch line will certainly supply sufficient water stress up to 350 feet; and also 3/4-inch tubes is required to run a 500-foot line. Try to find an optimum recommended sizes requirements on the PEX product packaging. Permits and also Evaluations-- If you're dealing with new building, evaluations will require to be done. Expenses of evaluations vary based on the area you reside in as well as your city's building regulations. You'll also need to spend for any building allows needed.
SharkBite recommends crimp rings be 1/8" to 1/4" from the end of the PEX. Slide your kink ring over the PEX after that the suitable right into the pipe.
PEX as well as CPVC are both plastics and also are outstanding options to the expensive copper piping. When breaking down the prices, rough-in pipes expense to mount a new kitchen varieties from $1,700 to $4,000 depending on the square video footage and also how many fixtures it has. Typical components consist of the cooking area sink, stove, refrigerator, as well as dishwasher. Rough-in pipes expenses vary from $8,000 to $12,000 for a brand-new building home around 2,000 square feet with 2 or 3 bathrooms.
Do you have to use red PEX for hot water?
The protection needed to prevent PEX pipes freezing is the same as for all other piping materials. If that's not possible, then the pipe needs to be insulated — and in some cases wrapped with heat tape and then insulated.
3 different production approaches create pipelines called PEX-c, pex-a or pex-b. These techniques use slightly various ingredients, yet this study discovered no connection in between production approach as well as leakage products. Viega offers the Viega FostaPEX ® form-stable, multi-layered tubes for plumbing as well as radiant heating applications. The Viega FostaPEX pairs the versatility of PEX with the stability of stiff piping, giving it an expert look while still flexing effortlessly. Yet as a result of the flexible nature of the pipeline, it can massage as the water is activated and also off and also create a leak.
These branches service individual locations, such as a shower, shower room sink, kitchen area sink, or bath tub.
Position the PEX crimp tool over the kink ring equally, at 90-degrees to the tubing.
A SharkBite fittingcreates solid links with easy installment.
Is PEX safe for drinking water?
It's pretty simple to use PEX. SharkBite recommends crimp rings be 1/8" to 1/4" from the end of the PEX. Slide your crimp ring over the PEX then the fitting into the pipe. Use your crimper at a 90 degree angle to the PEX and compress the crimp ring.
Galvanized pipeswere most often mounted in houses of this age, as well as these types of pipelines are understood to rupture and also corrode when they obtain old. As property owner's policies typically just start after the damages has actually taken place, you will likely need to carry the prices of repiping on your own. Usually, each chilly and also hot water line is gone through separate holes spaced between 2-6 inches apart, depending on the amount of room that is available. The last factor that is not as apparent is to ensure that the water lines do not carry out energy from each other and type condensation. Consider the amount of power transfer that will accompany these pipelines.
The more powerful stainless-steel did not expand in a current examination. However, you can not make use of the poly tees and joints with Snap Clamps. Car manufacturers have been making use of the clamps for decades on automobile Curriculum Vitae boots to maintain the boot in place.
Does PEX reduce water flow?
Pex cannot be glued and there are no compression fittings for cpvc, at least nothing that could ne used in the house. You will need to attach to each type of pipe, an adapter to pipe thread. The PEX adapter will be crimp or whatever that brand of PEX uses, and the CPVC adapter will glue on.
They have actually been included with claims taking care of dezincification of brass installations. The Kitec installations for that reason are still marketed and used without major events.
youtube
Is PEX banned in California?
PEX doesn't degrade like copper, higher PSI rating freezing pipes will still burst, but PEX will be able to handle more freezing water than copper. PEX Tubing is much more resistant to freeze-breakage than copper or rigid plastic pipe. PEX is cheaper/easier to install and you generally don't need as many fittings.

How to Make 100 Holiday Gifts in Under an Hour
What’s Wrong with Parabens, Anyway?
It is important to understand the toxic chemicals that are put into our consumer products and why first before we dive into our recipes. Here at the School of Holistic Healing we use nothing but all natural, so safe you can eat it skincare products. Ingredients like parabens don’t fit in with this philosophy, but how much do you really know about parabens? Are they really that bad, and why should they be avoided?
If you’ve been around here very long, then I can assume you’re also a fan of natural skincare. Sometimes however sneaky things can hide in our consumer products. And while you know if you can’t pronounce it you should probably avoid it, it’s helpful to know why. So, what’s wrong with parabens, anyway?
What are parabens?
Parabens come in many different forms. You can find methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, and propylparaben to name a few. They are used as broad spectrum preservatives in many personal care items and even medications like antibiotics, sleeping aids, and Tylenol.
Since parabens have been around since the 1920’s and are used in so many personal care items, people naturally assume they’re safe. Even a recent review from the FDA and American Cancer society have deemed them to be not harmful. However, because of strong internal monetary ties with pharmaceutical companies, any review from the FDA and American Cancer Society has to be taken with a grain of salt or a whole saltshaker.
Where can you find them?
Parabens can hide in everything from shampoo, to sunscreen, to your food. You can do your own search of paraben containing products on the Environmental Working Group (website below) database, which reveals that over 10,000 personal care products that we buy and bring home to our families to use on their skin contain methylparaben alone. That’s not even counting the nearly 10,000 products with propylparaben and the nearly 4,000 with ethylparaben.
The majority of paraben containing products are makeup like eye shadow, eye liner, foundation, and lipstick. Sometimes a product will advertise natural ingredients on the front, but it’s still hiding nasty bad for you stuff in the ingredients label.
The popular makeup brand Cover Girl has a “Clean” foundation powder for sensitive skin. You would assume if they’ve cleaned things up it wouldn’t have parabens in it, yet it has both propylparaben and methylparaben among all the other toxic ingredients.
The majority of paraben containing products are makeup like eye shadow, eye liner, foundation, and lipstick. Sometimes a product will advertise natural ingredients on the front, but it’s still hiding nasty bad for you stuff in the ingredients label.
Endocrine system disruptors
So, if they’re so prolific in personal care products, why are parabens so bad? Research that was published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology found parabens present in the breast tissue of women with breast cancer. Parabens were found in both the tumor and healthy breast tissue.
The scary thing here was that 7 of the women studied had never used deodorant or underarm products, yet there were still parabens present in the cancerous breast tissue. While I’m a little concerned that they’ve never used deodorant before, what’s worse is that it didn’t seem to matter as far as having the toxins in the tissue.
The study also pointed out that the area closest to the armpit, and coincidentally the underarm lymph nodes, is significantly more likely to house cancerous cells compared to other areas of the breast. This could be due to more products being applied to the area, but it could also be due to the lymph nodes becoming overtaxed from toxins as a whole.
The source of the parabens couldn’t be identified. Also, since these women were being treated for cancer, they were being subjected to conventional treatments like chemotherapy pills and other prescription drugs that could have been preserved with parabens.
A group of doctors from California took healthy breast tissue samples and exposed them to both methylparaben and BPA. They found that these healthy cells started behaving like cancerous cells once they were exposed to either of the toxins. As the cells evolved, they even blocked the cancer drugs from working.
This animal study also found that it negatively impacts testosterone levels and caused infertility. It wasn’t just large amounts of parabens that impacted the subjects though, the effects were seen at levels that are considered safe by both Europe and Japan.
Supporters of parabens claim that since no study has shown a definitive, direct causal link, that parabens should still be given the green light. There is enough evidence however that strongly indicates parabens are endocrine system disruptors and can mimic hormones in the body. Multiple parabens are used in just one product, and the impact of exposure from multiple products can compound the issue.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to wait around for a more definitive study. I’m staying away from parabens right now!
Head over to the School of Holistic Healing where you will find zero parabens in our Organic Skincare course care products. From deodorants to makeup to lotions, to baby products you’ll love making new organic *healthy* skincare solutions. You’ll love the hundreds of organic home line products we feature in our Skincare course.
How important is it to you that you can actually pronounce the ingredients in your skincare?
When was the last time you checked out the ingredient list on your lotion, foundation, face wash?
Ethoxylated Surfactants, Polyethylene Glycol, Oxybenzone, Benzophenone… what in the world are those ingredients?!
Entering into a more natural way of living has changed how I view these ingredients. Once upon a time, I never even thought about the ingredients in my skincare products. I never realized what an impact they can have on my body or the environment. Take parabens for example. You can find parabens in everything from sunscreen to lip stick.
What’s Wrong with Parabens?
Turns out they are endocrine disruptors and can mimic hormones in your body. Anything that messes with your body like that is bad news!
Realizing that most of the hard to pronounce ingredients came with safety and health concerns pushed me to the “if you can’t pronounce it, don’t buy it” line of thought. Using this philosophy is a great and simple way to choosing safe skincare products. Be honest, those ingredients that I listed just a bit ago took you a long time to pronounce, am I right? Either that or you skimmed over them and abbreviated them (poly-something, oxyb…. bento-what?).
Cocoa Butter, Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Lavender, I bet you can pronounce those!
It can be hard to find skincare products that fit the pronounceable ingredient requirement. Many brands boast that they are made with aloe, or shea butter, or other natural ingredients but then they still have many of the sneaky toxic ingredients as well. It can be overwhelming to find a great brand that is transparent in it’s ingredients and amazing quality.
How would you like to get the most of your Christmas gifts made in one hour?
Allow me to introduce a few recipes from our Organic Skincare Course!
You can. In fact, make more (I’ll explain how in a minute).
Tonight, I made 100 organic skincare gifts in one hour and I’m going to show you exactly how you can do it too.
Your end result will be:
• 10 lavender-chamomile bath tea bags
• 50 chocolate peppermint lip balms
• 24 chocolate peppermint lotion bars
• 16 oatmeal cookie bath treatments
• 6 brown sugar-vanilla sugar scrubs (you can make a lot more of these without much effort)
If you want to make the above gifts, you’re going to need the following ingredients: (measuring ounces – kitchen scale) or (measuring cups – glass measuring cup). Check Walmart for their essential oil section.
1. for lavender-chamomile bath tea bags 1-1/2 cup dried lavender 1-1/2 cups dried chamomile flowers 1/2 cup oats 10 drops lavender essential oil
2. for Chocolate-Peppermint lotion bars and lip balm 15 ounces beeswax 15 ounces cocoa butter 15 ounces coconut oil 2 teaspoons peppermint essential oil
3. for Oatmeal Cookie Bath 6 cups oats 3 cups baking soda 3 teaspoons cinnamon 3 Tablespoons vanilla extract
4. for Sugar Scrubs 3 cups brown sugar 1-1/2 cup organic sunflower oil (Walmart it’s cheap) 1 Tablespoon vanilla (You double, triple, or quadruple these ingredients)
5. You will also need 2 mixing bowls A food processor (for cookie bath) A large pot or double boiler (for lotion bars and lip balm) 2 muffin tins 50 lip balm tubes and lids 10 small muslin tea bags – 2 3/4″ x 4″ measuring cups and spoons freezer space for the muffin tins 20 – 1/2 cup jars (or 6 – 1/2 cup jars for sugar scrubs and 14 cellophane bags for cookie bath)
Note: most of my ingredients are from local organic shops, but many can be purchased from Amazon (such as beeswax, cocoa butter, and lip balm tubes). Also, another great place is www.specialtybottle.com for all of your containers, bags, jars, and they are cheap and no minimum order 1 or 101.
One more bit of advice and do what we did when we first got started. Go to your local thrift stores and pick up any cupcake tins, mixing bowls, measuring cups, and pans to put together a double boiler. You don’t want to use your good kitchen stuff for making these items.
To get all of the ingredients and directions for these gifts. Go over to:
1. www.schoolofholistichealing.org
2. At the top of the page hover your mouse over the  course page and it will drop down.
3. Click on free samples
4. Just click on the PDF and it will bring it up.
Have a Holistic Day!

Fencing Market Is Estimated To Rise At A CAGR: 5.0% Till 2025
San Francisco, 24 May 2019 — The global fencing market is anticipated to reach USD 37,414.5 million by 2025, as reported by Grand View Research, Inc. Growth in remodeling projects & real estates is projected to propel the market sales over the forecast period. Commercial sectors including academic organizations and industrial premises employ fences to enhance the safety of people and property.
Expansion in the fencing market can be attributed to residential renovations and new construction projects. Security needs and ‘transportation construction’ investments are presumed to spur the industry growth. In addition, fences may experience a significant rise in demand due to the requirement for aesthetically appealing and novel property. Governmental investments for promoting safety and security at public premises and parks are further energizing the industry growth prospects.
Consumer preferences largely depend on the design, cost, quality, and appearance of the fence. The demand for fences among cultivators for protecting their livestock & property is substantially propelling the fence demand. Innovative materials that enhance durability at low costs tend to add market profits.
To request a sample copy or view summary of this report, click the link below: www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/fencing-market
Further key findings from the study suggest:
Metal fencing is expected to dominate the market over the forecast period. This can be attributed to its usage across governmental organizations and public premises.
The residential application segment is expected to witness a phenomenal growth over the next six years. Renovation and construction operations are remarkably driving the demand for this application.
The safety of farms, livestock, and crops from trespassers and wild animals may propel the fencing demand in the agricultural application segment.
The Asia Pacific regional industry is expected to witness surges in the demand for fences in agricultural applications. This surge may be attributed to its evolving agricultural sector, especially in emerging countries such as India and China.
The Asia Pacific region is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% from 2019 to 2025.
The global fencing industry is characterized by intense competition with a highly fragmented market structure. It is led by several local manufacturers that meet the consumer needs by offering cost-efficient products.
The key market participants include Gregory Industries, Inc., Long Fence Company Inc., Betafence NV, Jerith Manufacturing Company Inc., Ply Gem Holdings Inc., Poly Vinyl Creations Inc., Allied Tube & Conduit, Ameristar Fence Products Incorporated, Associated Materials LLC, Bekaert, and CertainTeed Corporation.

Adam Sorokin Repeats As March Meet Top Fuel Winner in Chevy-Powered Champion Speed Shop Slingshot
Just as nitro-starved victims of the fuel ban flocked to Famoso for their winter fix starting in 1959, thousands arrive each March to get dosed with more nitromethane than any other modern meet delivers. Six of 16 March Meet eliminator categories run on “pop” and, with one exception, superchargers. Every run lasts 1,320 feet.
Despite the continuing decline of AA/FD entries (nine here) and a relative abundance of fuel floppers and fuel altereds, the March Meet remains a “dragster race”—at least in the minds of folks old enough to remember 100-plus Top Fuelers fighting for 64 spots. A half-century after the low-dollar Surfers won it and soon retired, anyone meeting Tom Jobe invariably asks how he and late partners Bob Skinner and Mike Sorokin pulled that off in 1966. If Mike’s son, Adam Sorokin, shows up 50 years from now at Milt’s Coffee Shop, some customer will surely inquire about the crazy circumstances contributing to his unlikely 2019 victory.
Fuel altered rookie Ron Capps was properly baptized into the world of Awful-Awfuls while qualifying a brand-new chassis (wearing a Fiat body bought from Mike Sullivan). Owners John and Roxie Hertzig initially suspected somebuddy’s prank when the big show’s 2016 Funny Car champ called to ask whether he might fill the open seat—and bring along his father and brother to help wrench on both Hertzig altereds. Capps fell to perennial March Meet winner Dan Hix in Round One but made the favorite work hard by leaving first and nearly forcing a sub-6.00-index breakout by Hix, who survived with a just-safe 6.021, on the brakes (208 mph). Famed freelancer Paul Sadler, whose lenses have favored AA/FAs since their early-1970s heyday, got the shot.
Sorokin’s upset of world-champ Mendy Fry concluded a final round that produced fellow winners Bobby Cottrell in AA/Funny Car (defeating impressive rookie Jerry Espeseth); James Day in Fuel Altered (d. Dan Hix); Mike Halstead, Rear-Engine T/F (d. Billy McDevitt); Dan Hix, Classic F/C (d. Rodney Flournoy); Kin Bates, A/FD (d. Wayne Ramay); Don Enriquez, Jr. Fuel (d. Alan Hull); Steve Faller, 7.0 Pro (d. George Vanderpool); Jason Barta, Nostalgia I (d. Lloyd Harder); Terry Linblad, N/E II (d. George Chatterton); Ron Anzalone, N/E III (d. Don Morris); Jim Teague, A/Gas (d. Frank Merenda); Steve Pullin, B/G (d. Nick Kendrick); David Stage, C/G (d. PJ Glacalone); Bill Norton, D/G (d. Bob Gonzalves); and Stacy Roberts in the DYO Hot Rod bracket (d. Dan Rowley).
Undefeated in NHRA’s Hot Rod Heritage points series for a full year since runner-upping at the 2018 March Meet, Fry’s title defense got off to a rocky start belied by results sheets listing two world-record runs, overall low e.t. (5.49), top speed (265.43), and another second-place finish. Earlier, during qualifying, a freak failure of the drive coupler had the predictable effect on a Donovan Hemi that reportedly zinged past 12,000 rpm. One engine and run later, the coupler’s culprit revealed itself when a cracked rearend mount separated from the chassis at speed, taking out the brakes. Her ’chutes alone couldn’t keep Mendy from bouncing into the rain-hardened sand trap. Owner Tom Shelar and his veteran crew thrashed ’til 3 a.m. Sunday to clean out the mud and install a fresh axlehousing that friend Bruce Dyda fetched from his L.A. chassis shop two-plus hours south then drove straight back to deliver.
A huge upset saw Ron Capps’s teammate, James Day, wrestle the Hertzigs’ traditional, short-wheelbase, wingless American Bantam to a rare defeat of Dan Hix’s dominant “transformer” (i.e., a slow NHRA Funny Car rebodied as a roadster and planted by two big wings fore and aft). The difference was a holeshot (6.22-6.16) that prevented Hix, whose Mustang topped the 5.90-indexed, six-car Classic Funny field, from scoring possibly the first fuel “double” at a major nostalgia meet.
Entering eliminations against friendly archrival Jim Murphy, Fry had yet to make a full pass. She promptly uncorked a winning 5.518, the quickest in slingshot history, at 265.43, the top speed overall (just edging Dan Horan’s 265.22-mph Funny Car). Fry broke through the 5.40 barrier in the semis, but left so uncharacteristically late (0.219 r.t.) that she needed most of the 5.490 and a top-end charge of 259.71 to overcome Bret Williamson’s event-best (0.051) r.t. and 5.85 e.t. Fry’s lousy light was traced to worn throttle parks that got replaced just in time to warm the Hemi for what, on paper, figured to be a mismatch with a wounded Chevy car fully 3.5 tenths and 50 mph slower on the day.
Instead, an overlooked screw in that hastily assembled throttle linkage backed itself out somewhere between Fry’s burnout and staging; at the hit, nothing happened. For her second straight year, the favorite watched from the left lane while a longshot opponent drove away to nostalgia racing’s biggest prize. As winner Adam Sorokin understated afterward, it was lucky for him “that they don’t run ’em on paper.”
One new build always seems to steal the casual pitside shows that accompany Famoso’s two big races (the other being NHRA’s California Hot Rod Reunion, upcoming October 25-27). Jason Brown didn’t let wet roadways derail a long-planned maiden voyage for an LS-powered, Tremec-shifted ’28 Ford under construction for four long years. Only the metal above the belt line originated in Detroit; the rusty rest was replaced with sheet steel shaped by Bakersfield’s TL’s Rods. The one-stop shop also trimmed 9 inches of ugly air from all window openings, created a cowl-firewall assembly, and applied the paint. That oh-so-low roof makes McLean’s rear wheels look ever taller than their 20 inches. Note how the headers and radius rod follow the arc of TL’s fabricated frame, which tapers down from 4×2 tubing at the 9-inch Ford rearend. Brandon Gross of TL’s Rods slid behind the wheel for Hot Rod Deluxe to demonstrate the low-down, set-back seating position that comfortably accommodates his six-foot customer.
At once one of the darkest yet most colorful early pickups on the planet, the blacked-out ’41 Ford belongs to Mike Brown, brother of the chopped Model A’s owner. TL’s Rods added a Chevy LS and Mustang II suspension while subtracting 8 inches of bed length. Shop owner Brandon Gross personally painted both brothers’ hot rods.
Mendy Fry experienced a whole season’s worth of drama in the season opener, highlighted by the quickest and second-quickest slingshot e.t.’s ever. She’d been in record territory before, as a teenager driving two cars built together with her father, the late Ron Fry. Their full-fendered roadster was the world’s fastest street-legal car. The teenager’s unprecedented 6.15 in 1988 tentatively claimed NHRA’s Top Alcohol Dragster national record until the car slowed to 6.27 on her next, last chance for the mandatory backup. This time, the veteran, who describes herself as “the son that my dad never had,” made sure it stuck with back-to-black blasts of 5.518 and 5.490.
Here’s the Rick Dore build that launched the second season of his Rusted Development series. Marc McCaslin’s two-year search for an unmolested ’36 paid off in a complete, two-owner coupe suffering nothing worse than two small dents and the blown head gasket that sentenced it to decades of covered storage outdoors. Surprisingly stock below the windows, the car even retains both original bumpers, swapped end for end. A crate 350 Chevy and TH350 keep the show rolling. McCaslin (wearing the dark jacket, rear) drew smiles by cruising into and out of the Famoso Grove at approximately this ride height. The fourth-generation Bakersfield farmer relies on adjustable, poly bumpstops in all four corners to safely maintain as little as 1/4 inch of clearance “on a road that’s real smooth; no bumps!”
Here’s another way to extract exhaust from a tight overhead conversion. Philipp Meyer didn’t drive his Chevy-powered coupe all the way from his home in Germany, but he’s covered much of this country in the Model A built by Mackey’s Hot Rods. Local tube bender Sean McDougall formed the sexy stainless system.
Lewis Milmich (shown), who spends weekdays restoring early Cadillacs and C10 pickups for customers, got talked into helping build a shop truck by his son Lee, who also recruited father-in-law Bill Lynch. Over eight months their family affair progressed from a disassembled ’56 stocker to what you see here. They left the body and paint as found, except for fabricating the firewall, adding an aftermarket rear-window kit to the standard cab, minitubbing the inside of the bed, and installing a donor truck’s running boards and bed sides, painted and aged to match the surroundings. A coat of satin clear preserves the patina. A 460 plucked from an F-250 benefits from a Comp cam and Holley Sniper injection. Detroit Steel supplied the 20×9 and 20×11 rims.
Reminders of engine builder and Pro 7.0 racer Cub Barnett appeared on Juggers club mate Boyd Schafer’s ’40 Olds gasser and one of several pitside benches recognizing California Hot Rod Reunion honorees. He raced in Southern California and operated the dyno at Scotty’s Muffler Service prior to moving north to work for Ted Gotelli in 1961. He later partnered with Andy Brizio in Champion Speed Shop and operated his own engine shop until the end. Cub, the younger brother of pioneer racer Bud Barnett, suffered a heart attack while undergoing cancer treatments the week of the March Meet, just shy of his 85th birthday.
Saturday’s surprises included back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back exhibition runs by five wheelstanders, ranging from the ancient stagecoach of Ed and Wendy Jones (pictured) to Mike Kunz’s spunky and fast PT Cruiser. The wheelie rivals staged an impromptu, side-by-side header burndown on Sunday. The coach took the main stage immediately after the Mopar’s last pass and was circling at midtrack when Nitro Mike came down the return road and stopped, directly opposite, to unleash an extended firestorm that the Outlaw returned across the guard wall. As usual, the candy man later strolled the fence line and had screaming fans eating out of his hand. As far as kids are concerned, nobody keeps up with the Joneses. The Idaho couple’s 17-year, two-vehicle deal with family-owned Jelly Belly is among drag racing’s longest-running sponsorships.
Adam Sorokin never saw his final-round opponent but wasn’t taking any chances, keeping the hammer down even after his blower gave up the fight. A slowing 5.84 at just 212 mph clinched a second March Meet title for the son of 1966 champ Mike Sorokin. Paul Sadler’s photo illustrates why top-end shooters challenge each other to capture the 377-inch minimouse motor with a belt still intact at 1,320 feet.
Ask Bobby McLennan why he continues shoving pressurized nitromethane through a limited engine design abandoned by Top Fuel racers before the original slingshot era ended and he’ll answer, “Because the Chevy was my dad’s deal.” Father and son both appear in a previously unpublished Petersen Publishing image that HRM editor Wally Parks composed during a 1962 summer meet at Pomona. The late Jim McLennan (left), whose injected and blown slingshots were frequently featured in manufacturers’ late-1950s and early-1960s “hero” ads as the world’s quickest Chevys, is seen talking with longtime NHRA tech director Bill “Farmer” Dismuke. McLennan never won the March Meet, but his youngest crewman (who has already learned that nitro is for racin’ while gas is good for washin’ parts), his son Bobby, grew up to build the billet small-blocks that made Adam Sorokin the Top Fuel Eliminator of 2010 and 2019.
