Prashant Kishor's Tough Questions For Nitish Kumar
Tumblr media
Prashant Kishore criticised JDU chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar todayHighlightsPrashant Kishor asks questions to former political mentor Nitish Kumar Mr Kishor was expelled from Janata Dal United last month Mr Kishor also launched a "Baat Bihar Ki" programmePatna: Poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor today redirected his attention to Bihar politics with a brand new outreach and aimed a series of uncomfortable questions at former mentor Nitish Kumar, who expelled him from the Janata Dal United last month after an acrimonious war of words. Announcing a "Baat Bihar Ki" programme to reach out to thousands of the state's younger voters, the ace election-planner ruled out forming any political party or joining one ahead of the Bihar election later this year."I have no intention of joining another political party or coalition... my sole focus is that in the next 100 days I will launch this program 'Baat Bihar Ki', involving all those people who believe in the vision of Bihar to be among the top 10 states in India," Prashant Kishor said, pledging to connect with 1,000 people across the state. This was Mr Kishor's first press conference since his expulsion from Bihar's ruling party; in the intervening period he added another successful election to his scorecard with AAP's stunning win in Delhi.Declaring that he was now fully focused on Bihar, Mr Kishor reeled off data that he claimed showed very little progress in the state between 2005 and 2015 and questioned why Nitish Kumar's government had failed to make much difference.Prashant Kishor was expelled after he repeatedly attacked Nitish Kumar over his stand on the citizenship law CAA and questioned his alliance with the BJP despite the ideological mismatch"Bihar has made progress, but we must also see that compared to other states, Bihar falls short even today... Why is that? It stands where it was in 2005. Except Jharkhand, Bihar is still the most backward state in India. I keep repeating that Bihar was most backward in 2005, and is still the most backward when compared to other states," said the former JDU vice president."There isn't a state with an IAS officer who is not from Bihar. Bihar has among the most engineering students and graduates in the country but Bihar does not have opportunities for them. Why, and till when will people from Bihar move to other states in search of jobs?"He also needled his former boss on his rivalry with RJD chief Lalu Yadav. "Yes, there are been significant progress from Lalu ji's time and Nitish ji's time. I agree that you must promote the work you've done for Bihar... but if you give a comparison between Lalu ji's time and your (Nitish Kumar) time, you must also let the people know how Bihar stands when compared to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu," he said.As he dissected the Chief Minister's claims about development in Bihar, Mr Kishor also questioned what he called Nitish Kumar's ideological compromise to stay in the alliance with the BJP. Support for Mahatma Gandhi and support for his killer Nathuram Godse cannot go together, he stressed, urging Mr Kumar to pick a side."There have been many discussions between me and Nitish ji about the party's ideology. Nitish ji always told us that the party can never leave the ideals of Gandhi ji.... But now the party is with those who are soft on Gandhi's killer Nathuram Godse.... For me Gandhi ji and Godse cannot go hand-in-hand," Mr Kishor said.On his expulsion, he said: "Nitish Kumar saw me as a son and I always saw him as a father. It is Nitish Kumar's prerogative to take me into the party or expel me, I will always respect him."Mr Kishor was expelled after he repeatedly attacked Mr Kumar over his stand on the citizenship law CAA and questioned his alliance with the BJP despite the ideological mismatch. Govt's refrain on NRC is a tactical retreat after protests: Prashant Kishor
Tumblr media
JD(U) national vice president Prashant Kishor on Thursday scoffed at the Centre's refrain that there have been no deliberations so far on a country-wide National Register for Citizens, calling it a "tactical retreat".
The poll-strategist-turned politician, whose party is an alliance partner of the BJP, asserted that the change in stance was prompted by country-wide agitations against the new citizenship law and the proposed NRC.
"The claim of abhi to NRC ki koi charcha hi nahin hui hai is nothing but a tactical retreat in the face of nationwide protest against #CAA_NRC. It is a pause and not the full stop. Govt could wait till SC judgement on CAA. A favourable court order and the whole process will be back," Kishor tweeted.
Speculation that CAA will be followed by NRC had intensified in the wake of Union Home Minister Amit Shahs remark during a debate on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Parliament that "NRC aane wala hai" (NRC is on the way). Read More

AAP GETS BATTLE-READY
"We are fully prepared... these are planted reports. We welcome the dates for the elections, and are confident of forming the government in Goa," Ashutosh said.
The journalist-turned politician is currently camping in Goa and holding meetings at constituencies.
In Goa, the AAP has named former Inspector General of Prisons Elvis Gomes as the chief ministerial candidate.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal too said his party had no issues with both Goa and Punjab going to polls the same day.
"We are ready for the elections. We don't mind even if elections are held tomorrow," the AAP leader told the media in Chandigarh.
He said the AAP won't name any chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, and added that a new chief minister would be elected by legislators after the polls.
The AAP leader claimed his party was poised to win more than 100 of the 117 seats in Punjab. "We will get seats in three digits," Kejriwal said.
The Election Commission today announced the dates for Assembly elections in five states--Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.
While both Punjab and Goa will have elections in single phase, elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases.

Nitish Kumar First BJP Ally To Openly Call For Rethink On Citizenship Law CAA
Tumblr media
Nitish Kumar's comments acknowledge the objections to the CAA for the first time.Patna: Nitish Kumar today said there should be a special discussion on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the Bihar assembly, becoming the first ally to openly call for a rethink on the controversial law and apparently modifying his stand after his party Janata Dal (United) supported the bill in parliament. The Chief Minister made the remarks after the Congress and Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) attacked the religion-based citizenship law in the special session of the Bihar house. On the National Register of Citizenship (NRC), Nitish Kumar was more emphatic as he said that there was "no question" or need to implement it in Bihar."There should be a discussion on CAA. If everyone wants, then there will be a discussion in this house. As for NRC, there is no question of the NRC and no justification for it," the Chief Minister said.Nitish Kumar's comments acknowledge the objections to the CAA - which has been at the core of nationwide protests by students, activists and political parties -- for the first time, though he has ruled out NRC in his state before. The comment comes a day after Mr Kumar's number two in the party, poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, tweeted: "...would like to reassure to all - CAA-NRC will not be implemented in Bihar."Last year, a section of the JDU had gone public with its annoyance at Nitish Kumar's change of heart on the citizenship law after he criticized it in a party forum and in press conferences.Prashant Kishor posted several tweets critical of his party boss and even offered his resignation from Nitish Kumar's party.Another ally of the BJP, the Akali Dal, had earlier expressed reservation on the NRC and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.  "Akali Dal wants Muslims to be included in the Citizenship Act. We have always talked about the welfare of people of all the religions, not just of the Sikhs," said Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Badal. Read the full article
