A little late to the party but I realized I never posted this. I designed a spidersona back when everyone else was. This is Ice Weaver, AKA Petra Park. She's a Korean-American girl living in New Seoul City. She was bitten by a radioactive spider after falling into a frozen lake saving a friend's life. She's got the normal spider-person powers plus the ability to create/control ice, which she uses to snowboard or skate across the city. Sometimes she mixes the ice with her webbing to give it some extra strength. She has albinism and is legally blind in result, but uses her spidey senses to fight crime anyway. Her polarized lenses aren't just to look cool, they protect her sensitive eyes from excessive light. The spider design on her uniform was my pitiful attempt at mixing a spider and a snowflake lol.

I'm going to jump on the "no one asked me but I'm going to tell you anyways" train of the 5 BuckTommy head canons. (Heavily Tommy centric because 🤷🏼‍♀️)
• One thing Tommy swore he'd never do is yell at Evan in anger, no matter how mad or frustrated he might get. Sure, that might result in him having to take a deep breath and walk away, but he spent far too many nights in his room as a kid listening to his parents fight, yell and scream. It never resolved anything, and only made things worse. He can't go down that road.
• Tommy actually doesn't like going on commercial flights. He knows it's weird considering, but passenger jets make him nervous. Not full on panic attack nervous, but enough to be uncomfortable in his seat for the entire flight. If a place is close enough that he can take the chopper, he'll do it regardless of how much more it might cost him. He's not sure if it's all those people crammed like sardines in a tight space, the fact that he's flying in something he has no control over, or just the childhood memories of constantly traveling back and forth between his divorced parents.*
• I fully believe they both bought engagement rings only months into their relationship, but are insistent on waiting for the other to propose or bring up the subject, for fear of it seeming too soon. Especially Tommy. He's had a ring for months but is so determined for everything to be at Buck's pace that he sometimes forgets he even has it in the first place.
• Buck bought Tommy a really expensive pair of polarized aviator sunglasses to use to work during the day, after he read somewhere that blue/light colored eyes are more sensitive to the sun.** We're talking really expensive, super protective with all the available coating options on the lenses. And if he paid extra for a custom engraving of Be Safe on the inside arm of the glasses, well that was no one's business but theirs. And no, it wasn't for his birthday or Christmas. “Because you're literally close to the sun."
😏 “Every single day.” 😏
• Tommy was a space nerd growing up.
*So, this got me thinking about the plane we keep seeing on the BTS shots. What if! What if Tommy had to take a flight, somewhere so far away that taking the helicopter wasn't a option. He's already uncomfortable to begin with, coupled with whatever dragged him away in the first place, and then...downed plane.
**I'm pretty sure this is a legit and actual fact. One that I thought about often a week or two back when I was walking around outside in the sun a lot and waiting in line at a baseball game, the whole time thinking about how much the sun was hurting my eyes.

might be wrong but iirc you have (sun?)glasses for your sensitive eyes right? if so, do you have any recommendations on where to get any kinda non prescription glasses? i also have sensitive eyes... orz
I do but they're just shitty $10 ebay sunglasses that don't do much at all :')
A while ago I did some research to find out what to look for in sunglasses for particularly light sensitive eyes, and the best ones are polarized, mirrored, and category 3 or 4. Light protection lenses come in "categories" with 0 being basically no UV protection at all (think general seeing eye glasses), cat.1 having light tinting but not much protection, cat.2 being basic/standard sunglasses, 3 being really good, and 4 being "don't drive while wearing these" lol
Unfortunately, glasses that have all of these are expensive as all hell... Ones I had written down are Ray-Bans' Flash Polarised glasses or their Chromance range... Someone else I found recommended green-tinted glasses helping a lot and those are generally more affordable than friggin Ray-Bans. Black and dark grey lenses work best for me too, even if the UV protection on my sunglasses isn't the best. Aviators look cool as hell but they tend to slide down my nose after a while and don't have protection on the sides so light still gets in from certain angles
My best pair of glasses right now are these things:
Tumblr media
"Retro Steampunk Sunglasses Side Shield Vintage Metal Round Eyewear Glasses," $10 on ebay (there are a lot of sellers of these and they're all the exactly the same—don't pay more than $10 for them). They've held up surprisingly well and seem to have nearly indestructible lenses; I throw them into my pocket regularly when I'm out haha Those side shields are awesome too. Biggest downside (?) is that they get compared to a lot of things...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Crowley Good Omens, Alucard Hellsing, Ozzy Osbourne)
So uh... That can be good or bad depending on your aesthetic choices lol
These Heron Mountain shades by Vallon seem pretty good and decently priced, but the side shields limit vision and I wanna see if I can find sunglasses like these without vision-limiting sides for maybe a lower price first. If I do, I'll be sure to post about it on here

4 Reasons to Wear Sunglasses in Winter
Winter is often associated with chilly weather and snow-covered landscapes, but it's essential to recognize the importance of wearing sunglasses during this season. Contrary to popular belief, sunglasses are not just a summer accessory; they play a crucial role in safeguarding your eyes throughout the year.
Protection from UV Rays
Even in the winter months, the sun emits harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays that can pose risks to your eyes. Snow can reflect these rays, increasing the chances of UV exposure. Wearing sunglasses with UV protection is a proactive measure to shield your eyes from potential damage caused by UV radiation.
Preventing Snow Blindness
Snow blindness, also known as photokeratitis, is a condition resulting from prolonged exposure to UV rays reflected by snow. It can lead to painful symptoms such as eye pain, redness, and temporary vision loss. Sunglasses act as a barrier, preventing direct exposure to UV rays and reducing the risk of snow blindness.
Reducing Glare and Enhancing Visibility
Winter landscapes, while stunning, can be challenging on the eyes due to glare from snow and ice. This glare can lead to discomfort, headaches, and eye fatigue. Sunglasses with polarized lenses effectively reduce glare, providing clearer vision and enhancing overall visibility in winter conditions.
Maintaining Eye Health in Cold Conditions
Cold weather can have adverse effects on eye health, leading to dryness and irritation. Here's where the innovative lens replacement services from MRY come into play. MRY specializes in replacing lenses for high-end sunglass brands, including Oakley. By opting for MRY's lens replacement, you can change your Oakley sunglasses to address specific winter conditions, ensuring optimal protection against harsh winds and debris while maintaining moisture for overall eye comfort during winter.

Caring for Your Winter Sunglasses
To maximize the lifespan of your Oakley winter sunglasses, adopt proper care practices. Clean the lenses with a suitable solution, store them in a protective case when not in use, and avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures. Taking care of your eyewear ensures prolonged durability and optimal performance.
Conclusion
In conclusion, wearing sunglasses in winter is not just a precaution; it's a proactive step toward maintaining eye health and enhancing visibility in challenging conditions. Whether you prioritize UV protection, style, or both, Oakley's winter sunglass models offer a range of options to suit your needs. Maybe I'm easily amused. But, I am now better prepared for another freaking infusion of endoscopy's special Migraine Potion in the morning!
(Another unfortunate effect of not actually having prescription glasses I can reasonably wear right now: the clip-on shades are sorta useless! 😑)
There is also another dilated eye exam coming up in a couple of weeks, so yeah. I'm already extra photosensitive after the laser treatments and lens replacement, which can be fun when you're already prone to migraines set off by light. (And seizure activity, but thankfully that hasn't been a problem in years. *fingers crossed*)
I am strongly considering trying some kind of rose-tinted lenses for regular wear, whenever I do find out the best option to get my vision corrected again. But, better in general to just go ahead and pick up some cheap interim nonprescription sunglasses!
These particular roughly $30 Oakley knockoffs were also supposed to come with plain grey polarized lenses to swap in. Which is what I was intending to use for this. But, open up the case and it actually contains a second mirrored set. 🙄 Of course, I only saw that once he had them home from the store this evening, and it was already too late to run back and swap them. They are going back, but not tonight.
So yeah, I guess it's the full-on rainbow Human Fly look tomorrow. 🪰 Infinitely better than no eye protection after I get out.
Not exactly my style to begin with, but wraparound sports shades did seem like a very practical choice if your goal is blocking glare. And they turned out to be surprisingly comfy, no more than they've been on my face so far.

The Important Role of Sports Sunglasses While Outdoors
Whether you're a dedicated athlete or a casual outdoor enthusiast, you understand the significance of sunglasses. Sunglasses are not just fashionable accessories; they are specialized gear designed to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays, optimize visual clarity, and withstand the demands of intense physical activity.
In this article, we will delve into the important role of sports sunglasses while outdoors, exploring how they contribute to eye safety, performance enhancement, and overall enjoyment of your favorite sports and adventures, and why it’s wise to buy a pair of sunglasses near you.
Tumblr media
Prevents UV Damage
Sunglasses labeled as providing 100% UV protection block both UV-A and UV-B rays. UV-A rays have longer wavelengths and can penetrate deeper into the eyes, potentially causing long-term damage. UV-B rays have shorter wavelengths and primarily affect the outer parts of the eyes, contributing to immediate effects like sunburned eyes. By blocking both types of UV rays, sunglasses offer comprehensive protection.
While polarized lenses primarily reduce glare, they indirectly contribute to UV protection. By reducing reflective glare from surfaces such as water, snow, or pavement, polarized sunglasses help improve visibility and visual comfort. We’ll recommend the best place to buy polarized sunglasses from below.
Provides Eye Protection Against External Elements
Apart from UV protection, sunglasses protect our eyes from wind and debris. Eyewear covers a larger area around our eyes and reduces the risk of windblown debris causing discomfort or potential eye injuries.
Sun and wind exposure can lead to dry eyes and discomfort. Sunglasses provide shade and reduce the direct impact of sunlight and wind on your eyes, helping to retain moisture and prevent excessive evaporation of tears, which keeps the eyes hydrated.
Sunglasses also protect against dust, dirt, and other particles in the outdoor environment. When you're engaged in activities like hiking, biking, or gardening, sunglasses act as a shield, preventing particles from entering your eyes and causing irritation or discomfort.
Selecting sunglasses with appropriate lens coatings, such as anti-reflective or hydrophobic coatings, can further enhance their protective qualities against the elements.
Improves Visual Clarity
Tumblr media
Some sunglasses with specialized lens coatings or technologies enhance contrast perception. They selectively filter certain wavelengths of light, optimizing the contrast between objects and their backgrounds. This improves the sharpness and definition of what you see, making objects stand out more clearly.
Some sunglasses feature lens tints or coatings that enhance certain colors while reducing others. This selective color enhancement can improve visibility and visual clarity in specific environments. For example, amber or brown-tinted lenses enhance contrast and depth perception, making them beneficial for outdoor activities like hiking or skiing.
Sundaze Rays lets you buy sunglasses online with their diverse collection that contains an online shop for handcrafted sunglasses. Visit their shop today to buy uniquely shaped sunglasses. Get in touch with them to find out more.

Beach Essentials for a Relaxing Getaway
When it comes to planning a beach getaway, packing the right items is essential. Of course, the standard beach items like towels and sunscreen are important, but there are plenty of other things that can help make your day at the beach even more enjoyable. Here’s a list of some must-have beach essentials that you should consider bringing along with you on your next seaside adventure.
Sunglasses: Nothing ruins a relaxing day at the beach like bright sunlight in your eyes. Sunglasses can protect your eyes from harmful UV rays while also helping to reduce glare so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean without any distractions. Look for sunglasses with polarized lenses; they provide superior protection against glare while still allowing you to see clearly.
Hat: A hat is another great way to protect yourself from harsh UV rays while enjoying your time at the beach. Wide-brimmed hats or baseball caps provide great coverage, while a sun visor is perfect if you don’t want anything on top of your head. Whichever style you choose, make sure it’s made from breathable fabric so you don’t overheat under the summer sun!
Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is key when spending long hours in the sun, so bring along a reusable water bottle with you on your trip. Not only will it help keep you healthy and energized, but it will also help save our planet by reducing single-use plastics that often end up polluting our oceans and beaches. Refillable bottles come in all shapes and sizes these days, so find one that fits into your lifestyle and take it with you wherever you go!
With these items in tow, you will be well prepared for an amazing day at the beach! Whether it's just for a quick dip or an all-day adventure, having these must-have items handy will ensure that nothing gets in between you and ultimate relaxation during your time by the sea. So go ahead - grab those sunglasses and get ready for some serious chill time!

The best sunglasses for outdoor activities

Tumblr media
Lens quality: Look for sunglasses with polarized lenses that provide UV protection and reduce glare. This is especially important for activities such as fishing, boating, or skiing, where glare can be a problem. Polarized lenses can also improve visibility and color perception.

Fit: Choose sunglasses that fit well and stay securely on your face. Look for sunglasses with adjustable nose pads or a rubberized frame to keep them in place during activities.
Style: Consider the style of sunglasses that will best suit the activity you'll be doing. For example, sport sunglasses with a wrap-around design are great for activities such as running or cycling, as they provide a secure fit and maximum coverage.
Brand: Look for well-known, reputable brands known for their high-quality sunglasses. Some of the best brands in outdoor sunglasses include Oakley, Ray-Ban, and Costa.
Ventilation: Consider if you need sunglasses with ventilation to prevent lens fogging.
Interchangeable lenses: Look for sunglasses with interchangeable lenses, it allows you to switch between lenses for different lighting conditions.

[ID: Two images of WWI "splatter" masks; the first is monochrome and being worn by a person, and consists of a helmet, goggles with shutterlike "slit lenses", and a chain mail curtain hanging from the goggles to protect the rest of the face. The second is the mask not worn, in color, showing it was held on by a band around the head, and that the goggles are leather.]
Technically it's not me, it's the Mysterious Fistbump, who is absolutely not my alter ego in any way.
Tumblr media
The OG fistbump has had some evolutions since then (I don't own that jacket anymore) but that just means more action figure sales!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My favorite is the lower right, the Fistbump's 2021 "summer look" for cycling. Though I have to respect the product placement on the one where the Fistbump is a Whataburger fan. Fun fact, the lower left, in the green parka, was taken outdoors during the 2019 polar vortex, when the temperature in Chicago without windchill was around -20F.
[ID: Six total images of myself dressed as the "Mysterious Fistbump". The outfit consists of a hoodie or coat hood covering my hair, green-tinted large steampunk costume goggles covering my eyes, and either a scarf or a COVID mask covering the lower half of my face. In all but the lower right, I'm wearing jackets that cover my neck. In the lower right, instead of a hood, I'm wearing a bicycle helmet, and my neck is visible above a t-shirt collar. In many of them, at least one wide, staring eye is visible through the goggles.]
We all agree plague doctor masks are cool but I just learned about these WW1 "splatter masks" for tank crews and I really love their spooky look
