As Tanjiro lies his hands on Genya’s hands, the former whispering into the latter’s ear; the slayer’s breath starts to shake, body shuddering with each exhale.

Stop stopstopit- pleasecomeback-

The animalistic fear turns into full-blown panic as they see the tendrils come from Tanjiro’s back; easily comparable to a black monster with glowing white eyes in the inky abyss, slowly coming out of the darkness to reveal it’s true, horrifying form.

Tanjiro’s body was just the eyes.

Genya’s vision starts to blur, sweat coating their entire face as they can’t do anything but move their eyes to the tendrils; their body still incapacitated from pure, unfiltered fear racing through their blood, spreading to every single part of them. It consumes the teenager, leaving them drowning in that paralyzing terror.

Move- move move move, damn it!

And yet, despite Genya’s begging with their body, despite their desperation for their body to actually respond to them…

…all they can do is stand there, as unmoving as a dead body with rigor mortis set in it.

Genya knows the bullets won’t kill Tanjiro.

They know, they know, they know. Anything nichirin won’t be able to kill the demon who’s able to walk in the sun’s perishing light.

It’s a useless feat to try and shoot; Genya’ll just be wasting ammo if they do so.

The slayer’s grip tightens on the gun.

But… they have to do something. They can’t just stand her pathetically, snarling and baring their teeth like some pathetic animal-

Tanjiro steps closer-

DANGER DANGER DANGER DANGER-

-And Genya’s mind goes blank, overridden with such an animalistic fear that all they can think of this person- this threat- is that they want him to go away. To leave them alone.

Every single muscle in the slayer’s body freezes, forcing them to stop moving- forcing them to not shoot this demon.

…their friend.

Damn it, damn it! What the hell am I doing?! This isn’t Tanjiro anymore! Just shoot him- shoot him!!

No matter how hard Genya tries, they can’t force themself out of this state of paralyzation.

Tanjiro’s right; his friend won’t- can’t pull the trigger.
