Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I was busy doing many things this week, but luckily they were the kind of things that facilitate a lot of audio drama listening. Shall we?

�� G.O.B.L.I.N.S. is amazing. I love an office sitcom in any case, but an office sitcom with two goblins, an elf prince, and an overly enthusiastic government pencil pusher is an inspired idea. I really want this show to exist more, so if you can, consider helping them on their crowdfund!

💋 Josie’s Lonely Hearts Club this week was HILARIOUS. The presidential puns were so delightful, and I also ended the episode wanting to fight a veterinarian. Can’t wait to see where this season is going.

🌚 @hellofromthehallowoods is always so good at creating these gorgeous soft character moments, and I adore middle-aged Buck. Watching this man gracefully age into a husband and father who likes himself, who knows he is loved, is such a far cry from the poor little guy he used to be. I really don’t want him to get eaten by a vampire. Are you hearing me, Mx Wellman?

📻 Breaker Whiskey ended for now and ohhhhhhh. Oh man. I cried. The experience of listening to this story feels very early audio drama, and that’s definitely by design. Lauren Shippen let the story wander and discover itself, and we got to discover it too. Was it a flawless story? No story is, but getting to revel in the wandering just made it better. Whatever’s next for the story, I have enjoyed the ride.

🥛 The Silt Verses. That’s it. I found this episode entrancing. How’s this going to end?

🥃 Breathing Space this week was hilarious. In a rare voice acting appearance by Pacific Obadiah and some familiar voices from Melissa Lusk and Katrina Pecina as well as the ol' Breathing Space standbys, this heartfelt, witty, and above all very silly episode felt really good. I just loved it.

🐟 In Travelling Light this week, VERMI'S BACK. My favorite guy! And it seems we won't be seeing the last of this guy, either. Thank you Hero for my life. Friendship is gonna solve all the traveller's problems and I couldn't be happier.

🧟‍♀️ In Hannah News, The Dead started a new series called Turas that I really think you should check out. It’s set on a Scottish isle with Scottish Gaelic, and zombies, and sister dynamics, and it’s so good guys. Our main actors, Michelle Kelly and Bonnie Calderwood Aspinwall, are absolutely killing it, alongside an amazing cast. Please tune in, you won't regret it.

WORK WORK WORK... HELP!

A VERY MERRY WORKADAY FOLKLORE THURSDAY TO ALL OUR LOVELY SUPPORTERS!

Or, it would be a workaday Thursday, had your author managed to rise from his sickbed by now, but – despite having a gig at THE FLIPPING BRITISH LIBRARY on Sunday, sadly this is one storyteller whose tubes are still full of gunk and nastiness. Wish us well…

Despite this, of course, the work has to go on – and now, with the release of our book so very close, more than ever. We miss tailoring our weekly blogs with a themed story – what would work with WORK? Wayland is a Smithy, of course, Dick Whittington is worked hard as a skullion, the Shrewsbury-hating giant is defeated by a cobbler, and so on. But ultimately, WITH ONE WEEK TO GO UNTIL THIS BOOK IS RELEASED, the work which concerns us is that of Robert Henryson in our tale 'The Whikey Tree', or indeed Brother Bernard himself – the hardest job of all in this century, in terms of making a living, the SCRIBE, the poor penniless author...

10 years so far, man and boyish man – not including more than 10 earlier years as a magazine scribe. It never gets any easier. And when it comes to WORK, we’re up to our eyebrows in it as it is. And we do need your help...

Those who have been following this campaign all the way back to its inception in the summer of 2017 (and the entire saga is laid out HERE) will recall that the inflated target we were originally given had to be cut down to something more manageable, if this book was ever to be published – and we never quibbled about the reduction to paperback only, nor even the fact that Waterstones and WH Smiths would not automatically stock the book (though we still hope discerning store managers will recognise the unique appeal of this collection and order some in anyway – PLEASE ask your nearest store, if you can). We regret that the lower budget would prevent us from including all the wonderful illustrations we would have liked, these tales deserve some marvellous pictures...

But it simply never crossed our minds that the reduction in budget would go so far as to prevent any kind of publicity assistance from the publishers – we were told this week, in effect, that we are ENTIRELY ON OUR OWN when it comes to letting the world know about Tales of Britain. Please don’t ask us what the logic is in publishing books and then very specifically NOT using any of your considerable experience, and press and publicity resources, to spread the word and help actually sell copies, when it will only benefit the company to sell copies... it hurts our heads to try and comprehend.

But the upshot is that your faithful scribe, storyteller, author and performer, not only has to double up as crowdfunder, but now also a PR officer and sole publicity wrangler – talk about hard WORK! To this end, we have prepared an all-new press release to send out to… whoever we can:

But we can do so much more, and reach so many more people, if you help us – have a think, do you know of a good place to spread the word? Are you – or are you pals with – a TV or radio producer or paper/magazine editor looking for some truly fascinating (please forgive the use of the following word) CONTENT, which effortlessly ties in to the constant blabbering about Brexit, and national identity? We believe that celebrating our ancient national treasury of stories CAN bring this fractured country back together – and in addition, our stories make every effort to present our stories for a new generation, with greater gender parity, a recognition of the crucial role of immigration in creating Britain, and so on. There's so much to talk about, and it's great stuff be it on air, on TV or in print. Get in touch, and let's talk.

Or would you just like some stories shared as part of a special local celebration? We are lining up shows at festivals in The Netherlands, at this year’s Glastonbury, as well as regular spots at dear old Ludlow Fringe and beyond. If you can help with travel/accommodation, we will consider all kinds of events, no matter where. Please let us know!

Okay. The book will be downloadable one week from now, as well as available to order in paperback online and (we hope) in the more discerning bookshops of Britain and beyond. We keep begging Unbound to make an effort to distribute to the right shops – garden centres and tourist offices are particularly perfect for a road atlas of legends like this. It all comes down to whether they want to actually sell books or not. We hope they do.

So much hard WORK has got us this far, after so many years. And so much hard WORK lies before us, to help folk know what pleasures await them in Tales of Britain’s pages! But, lest we have a WORK-related nervous breakdown, I think we can all take a moment to congratulate ourselves, simply on helping to make this, the first full treasury of British folktales to be published in generations, actually exist. There’s nothing else remotely like it out there, and maybe, just maybe, that should be enough. Whenever anyone, from any area of Earth, fancies finding out about British folktales, a quick search online will now bring up our book quite prominently, and they now have a one-stop source of the finest stories Britain has produced. Which is all we wanted in the first place, and why we had to start this epic campaign 15 years ago, when we discovered there was no such book in existence.

Hard work sometimes pays off. Well done, everybody. Now – HELP SPREAD THE WORD!

Life is tough on Twitter when you share a name with someone in Trump's administration

The Twitter accounts belonging to members of Trump's administration receive a lot of attention, and rightfully so — Trump has proven time and again Twitter is his preferred medium for communicating just about everything.

But what about the unfortunate souls who just happen to share the same names as members of the Trump team? Innocent Twitter users who are just trying to enjoy the social media platform in peace?

We spoke to a number of people with a famous (or infamous) namesake, and discovered they each react to their unintentional fame differently.

John Kelly

First up we have John Kelly, who is Trump's new chief of staff following Priebus' recent resignation — but also a Washington Post columnist.

The other John Kelly started his Twitter account in 2008, and was "delighted" to be the first John Kelly on Twitter, he said. (Chief of Staff John Kelly is actually not on Twitter if you can believe it.)

"There are a lot of John Kellys in the world," Kelly revealed. "We're sometimes confused with one another on Twitter."

Besides Washington Post John Kelly and Chief of Staff John Kelly, there is also an Irish novelist named John Kelly and a data scientist named John Kelly.

"I'm a journalist so I try to keep my views to myself," Kelly added. "But just because of the jobs we do, White House John Kelly and Washington Post John Kelly are very different."

This stark difference between the two John Kellys doesn't keep our Kelly from having a bit of fun when he's hit with a case of mistaken identity. However, he can also find himself at the receiving end of a fair amount of online ire.

"Many of [the people tweeting at me] are quite worked up, either overwhelmed with extreme love for the other John Kelly or overwhelmed with extreme hatred," Kelly said. "Settle down, people. You’re not going to fix the world in 140 characters."

Amen to that.

Kelly had to clarify his identity in July with a series of tweets:

Unfortunately, his clarification did not do much to quell the tweets and mentions he received, and he had this to say after Scaramucci's sudden ousting:

"What this whole mistaken Twitter thing has taught me is that people need to slow down. They shouldn’t be so quick to judge – and they definitely shouldn’t be so quick to tag," Kelly said.

"Do they really think the White House Chief of Staff would have a Twitter photo of a guy sitting at a vintage Ludwig drum set?"

Stephen Miller

Next, we have @redsteeze — aka Stephen Miller. He's not Trump's senior advisor Stephen Miller, though he is a contributor at Fox News.

While tweets like the one above make it seem like Fox News Stephen Miller somewhat relishes sharing a name with the infamous White House staffer, he did have some choice words for his namesake after writer Bret Easton Ellis said he wanted to write a novel about the other Miller.

Ugh.

White House Steve Bannon is one of the most controversial members of Trump's team so, naturally, innocent Steve Bannon often receives some of the nastiest Twitter vitriol. The hate became so intense, in fact, that he decided to try capitalizing on his misfortune by using the attention to crowdfund a new set of golf clubs for his daughter.

"In the last 24 hours I have been receiving abusive tweets in a case of mistaken identity," the crowdfunding description, which was written in August of last year, read. "Donald Trump has appointed a man called Steve Bannon to help run his presidential campaign. My Twitter tag is @stevebannon and this is where the abuse is being directed."

Steve Bannon went on to explain that he's just a working class Scot living in England with his wife and three girls. His middle daughter Olivia is a strong golfer, but she needs a new set of clubs to advance her career.

"Please make a donation towards Olivia's clubs if you have posted abuse on my twitter feed," the crowdfunding campaign said. "One day you might see her on tour."

Mike Pence

Everyone knows Vice President Mike Pence, @mike_pence, but there's also @mikepence — a progressive, atheist software developer living in Sarasota, Florida.

In many ways, software developer Mike Pence is the very antithesis of the vice president.

"Having been raised a Jehovah's Witness, [I have] a healthy aversion to Orwellian thought-control cults of any political or religious origin," Pence said in a Washington Post column.

"Sometimes you don’t value a thing until you have lost it," Pence continued. "And when people suddenly associate your name with someone you personally find to be a monster."

Though Pence could do without the barrage of ugly notifications directed at him by mistake, he said he also views his situation as an opportunity, due to the large audience he has amassed.

"There will come a day to explain all of this to my now year-and-a-half-old grandson," he said in the column. "How could I say anything to him except that I proudly put my fist in the air and proclaimed that I am not that Mike Pence, but I am the other Mike Pence, the one who values freedom and civil rights for all?"

Eric Trump

Finally, we have Eric Trump, one of the president's creepy sons, and also an entirely different person who is a teacher from Surrey in the UK.

"I joined Twitter in February of 2015," UK Trump said. "At the time Donald Trump was known in the UK for his golf courses and reality TV appearances but no one had heard of his son Eric."

That blissful ignorance did not last long, and once Trump launched his presidential campaign, UK Eric Trump began receiving some unwanted attention.

"Despite my Twitter bio clearly stating that I am not Donald's son, I regularly get people following me thinking that they are following the son of the POTUS," Trump said. "Sometimes I block them straight away and sometimes, out of curiosity, I wait to see how many of my tweets (mainly about Fulham football club and pictures of loaves of bread I have baked) it takes before they realize that they have got the wrong guy."

To make things even worse for poor UK Eric Trump, he can't partake in the fun of Googling his own name, because all that comes up are pictures of White House Eric Trump posing with the latest wild animal he has shot.

"Maybe if your research uncovers more Eric Trumps we could form some kind of self help group?" Trump suggested.

WEATHER WARNINGS of snow and strong winds have been issued for much of Scotland between Wednesday and Friday. The Met Office said it could lead to "very poor travel conditions" in some parts of the country. A yellow "be aware" warning is in place from 18:00 on Wednesday until 12:00 on Thursday. A further alert has also been issued of potential snowfalls throughout Scotland from Thursday into Friday. The first warning said wind gusts of up to 55mph were expected in exposed coastal areas with up to 5cm (2in) of snow possible and up to 20cm (8in) on higher ground. The Met Office said lightning could accompany the heaviest showers, with potential disruption to power supplies as a result. The second warning, valid from 12:00 on Thursday to 12:00 on Friday, could see further accumulations of snow.

CHAINSAWS and a van were among property stolen from an Aberdeenshire park maintenance yard. The break-in happened at the Aden Country Park yard in Mintlaw between Thursday and Friday. An Aberdeenshire Council van which was stolen was later recovered. Gardening equipment including chainsaws was also taken, and the building vandalised. The University of Edinburgh research team said its findings could help to shed light on the causes of depression, which affects about one in five people. It could also pave the way for better diagnosis and treatments for people suffering from the condition, experts believe. There is currently no test for diagnosing depression. The condition has symptoms such as persistent low mood, losing interest in life and thoughts of self-harming. Experts have suggested the condition may be a number of different illnesses with varying causes and effects. A TECH START-UP firm which thought it had secured a £100,000 investment on the BBC's Dragons' Den TV show has had the funding pulled. Shortly after the show was aired on Sunday, technology entrepreneur Peter Jones tweeted that his investment did not go through. The Glasgow-based firm had hoped to use the money to help fund the expansion of its Bluetooth tracker, Xupo. The coin-sized tracking sensor helps people find misplaced personal items. The tracker was launched by Strathclyde University graduates Raj Sark and Vincenz Klemt in 2014 after they raised nearly £27,500 in a crowdfunding campaign with Kickstarter. The idea was born when one of the founders lost his travel bag, including a new laptop computer and passport, at Heathrow Airport. Peter Jones said his investment of £100,000 did not go through During the show, Peter Jones had offered the investment for 30% equity of the business. Xupo had forecasted £1m in revenues in the next year.

AND FINALLY… A DRUG DEALER caught with cocaine worth up to £37,500 after police stopped his untaxed van has been jailed for three years. Nicholas Day was pulled over in Dundee's Perth Road after a number plate recognition camera alerted officers. The 31-year-old was searched at police headquarters and officers recovered 379g of the class A drug. The court heard that Day used up to 14g of the drug himself at weekends. Depute fiscal Vicki Bell previously told Dundee Sheriff Court: "He was searched and three bags of white powder were found. "He admitted in interview that the drugs belonged to him." Day admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine between 10 April and 17 May… At least he won’t have to worry about the bad weather and driving this week, or the next or the one after that…..
