Little Lady Reads Interviews Author Kendra Spencer
LLR: Introduce us to "Secret Rendezvous."
KS: Secret Rendezvous is a tale penned only due to the persistent cravings of the character Jay. She insisted that it was time to set her sights on a long ago love again.
LLR: This book is a spinoff from The Playing Games series, what has been your ultimate goal with this series?
KS:  The ultimate goal has only been to entertain and educate.
LLR: There were so many things in this book that mirrored relationships and the LGBT community, especially. Did you write from experience?
KS:  Honestly, I definitely wrote from experience and mixed it all up with some fiction.
LLR: Was there any portion of the book that was extremely hard to write?
KS:  I wrote two versions of this story. The first draft was harder to write due to not fully knowing the character Arianna. I did a few outlines of her before she revealed everything to me. Once I knew her fully, the second draft was easier to write.
LLR: How do you get to know your characters?
KS: Through character outlines and analysis.  I do one character analysis that really helps me mold my character. It asks me questions about their past present and future. How the character would respond in certain situations and whatnot, character goals external and internal, nervous gestures. I do a character outline over the character's physical appearance and living environment.
LLR: Fill In The Blank: Arianna is _________________.
KS:  A bitch if you don't take the time to carefully look. Upon closer inspection you find a very complex individual.
LLR: Fill in The Blank:  Jay is ___________.
KS:  Jay is a lover filled with romance for the one she loves.
LLR: Who are some LGBT authors that you read or identify well with?
KS:  I've read the works of Shatika Turner, Fiona Zedde, and Fabiola Joseph
LLR: What has been your experience with self-publishing?
KS:  It can be a long difficult journey but in the end I believe its worth it. Its nothing like seeing your success grow and knowing you played an integral part in. EVERYTHING.
LLR: Have you had any regrets thus far in the industry?
KS:  Eh i could say working with some individuals but really its all a learning experience the good and the bad.
LLR: How do you plan to help the literary community?
KS:  Good question. I plan to help the literary community by challenging it to grow.  I aim to ensure indie authors know exactly what they are getting involved in and to be wary of. Another goal is to nurture the next generation of writers to help them succeed.
LLR: How do you plan to achieve your goal?
KS:  My teacher told me to bring my business plans to fruition because the same way that idea whispered across my mind it can whisper across another's. I also plan to network.
LLR: If you got to have one superpower in this industry, what it be and why?
KS:  Time, let me have the power to play with time so I could get everything done in the day.
LLR: What are you working on next?
KS:  Playing Games 3, which will be from Chantel aka Lil Buddy’s point of view and possibly a short story from Kim’s point of view as well.
LLR: Say something to your readers.
KS:  Thank you for rocking with me You are appreciated and I hope to do a signing in your city and meet you in the flesh soon.
