Snow is expected to develop in the Plains states today, with heavy snowfall anticipated in parts of eastern Kansas, southern Missouri, and the Ozarks. This snow will then move eastward tonight and tomorrow, impacting the Tennessee Valley, southern Ohio Valley, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia. The heaviest snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is expected in southeast Virginia, North Carolina (specifically Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Raleigh, Durham, and Winston-Salem), and Springfield, Missouri. Louisville, Kentucky, Nashville, Tennessee, Paducah, Kentucky, and Springfield, Missouri will also experience significant snowfall of 6 to 8 inches. In the mid-Atlantic states, snow is forecasted to reach as far north as Baltimore and Washington on Wednesday into Wednesday night. Light snow will then develop across the Ohio Valley and move through the Appalachians into the mid-Atlantic states on Thursday, potentially reaching New England. The main issue with this storm is the disconnect between the upper level low center and the surface low, which could lead to unexpected snowfall on Thursday as the two systems converge. This could result in snow being thrown back into the mid-Atlantic states, the Appalachians, and even up to New England. Despite models suggesting otherwise, some areas could still receive 2 to 4 inches of snow due to the cold weather and high snow ratio.
