6 Of 6 - Our Complaint Against Cyngor Gwynedd Council.
6 Of 6 – Our Complaint Against Cyngor Gwynedd Council.
The customer care and complaints department at Cyngor Gwynedd council continue to remain silent in regard to our complaint first raised in May, last year on the advice of the Ombudsman for Wales. So this is the sixth and final point of our Stage 2 complaint  – Despite repeated requests, (complainants) have never been offered a carers assessment by social services. And our desired outcome – The…

Leonard called out over zero-hours contracts pledge
RICHARD Leonard’s commitment to end zero-hours contracts in Scotland was ridiculed by Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood, who pointed out that the Labour government in Wales had voted against similar proposals no fewer than seven times. The stooshie between the two opposition leaders came after Scottish Labour tweeted on Boxing Day that, “over a quarter of a million Scots are trapped in insecure work. That’s why we’ll call time on zero-hours contracts”. Wood replied: “Can we expect the same in #Wales? Oh no, wait, the Labour Government here has voted against @Plaid_Cymru proposals on zero hours contracts no less than SEVEN times. #EndZeroHoursContracts”
Peter A Bell's insight:
It is important to understand what is going on here. And it really doesn't have anything to do with zero-hours contracts. Richard Leonard is no more embarrassed by his rank hypocrisy on this matter than by his previous gaffes on subjects such as water and railways and health. That's because his utterances are not about policy at all.
As Gordon Archer has pointed out on Twitter (https://twitter.com/GordonMhor/status/946321002421567488), Leonard's strategy is to blur the distinction between British Labour's Westminster and Holyrood policy lines. As Gordon says,
"This blurring of the lines is about getting Labour’s Westminster vote back from the SNP by confusing what the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government can and cannot do, and is and is not responsible for."
This is perfectly correct, as far as it goes. But the other strand of this strategy is just as worth being aware of. It's not only about undermining the SNP administration by insinuating that it is failing to do things that it has the power to do. It is also about obscuring the distinctiveness of Scotland's political culture by creating the impression that progressive policies can emanate from Westminster just as well as from Holyrood.
Leonard's rhetoric is not simply the dumb partisan politicking it may first appear. It derives from and feeds into the larger propaganda effort on behalf of 'One Nation' British Nationalism. It is at least as much about casting aspersions on the legitimacy and effectiveness of the Scottish Parliament as it is about attacking party political rivals.

Car industry gloom as Ford plant faces closure and Fiat-Renault merger stalls – business live
Rolling coverage of the latest economic and financial news, as workers in Bridgend gather to hear the future of Ford’s engine plant
Ford engine plant’s future in doubt
Officials meeting unions this morning
Why did Fiat-Renault deal fail?
Full story: Ford planning to close Bridgend plant
8.53am BST
Adam Price, leader of Wales’s Plaid Cymru, has blasted Ford’s decision to (we fear) shut the Bridgend engine plant.
Price says the move would be “one of the worst acts of industrial vandalism seen in the UK for decades”. He’s also unhappy that the US company is making the move on D-Day, when people should be celebrating co-operation and solidarity.
This is an act of crass insensitivity by Ford.. not the actions of a responsibly mature company. This is cowboy capitalism at its worst.
I don’t think in any sense that this is a done deal.
“Don’t throw workers on scrapheap” @Plaid_Cymru leader’s message to @10DowningStreet @WelshGovernment ahead of @ford announcement on #Bridgend plant closure – more investment in future tech of manufacturing. Warns of Europe wide industrial action in solidarity.@skynews #Sunrise
8.24am BST
Ford workers in Bridgend have been arriving at work, ready to learn their plant’s fate.
Sad day for hundreds of workers at Ford in Bridgend as Ford tells them of plans to close the engine plant. It’s expected production will finish towards the end of 2020 after 42 years on the site @itvnews
As we revelled yesterday staff are due to be formally told of plans this morning with the official announcement expected around 1230. #Bridgend

We need to ready ourselves for a General Election, which means focus and clear determination to defeat the Tories & Brexit Party alliance, which will surely appear very soon. And that means we need a tactical voting strategy agreed now. @UKLabour @LibDems @theSNP @Plaid_Cymru pic.twitter.com/J6EaXCOjEK
