Shivji in Karnataka
Murudeshwara is a temple town in Bhatkala Taluk, North Canara district in Coastal Karnataka. Located on the main Mangalore- Karwar Highway, Its main attraction is the massive Shiva statue which is 123ft high.
Since 2006, the Shiva statue has stood as an illuminating symbol of peace and enlightenment. It is visible from quite a distance because of its staggering height of 123 ft. The mythology and history linked with Murdeshwar is captivating because of its reference in the ancient Indian epic – Ramayana.
According to the legend, demon King Ravana was returning to Lanka (his home) with Atma Lingam (helps in attaining immortality) given by Lord Shiva on one condition that it must not be kept on the ground except Lanka.
But Lord Ganesha with help of Lord Vishnu tricked Ravana and Atma lingam was placed on the earth. It made Ravana furious who used all his strength to remove the lingam from the ground and in that pursuit some parts were scattered nearby.
So, Gokarna was the place where Aatmalingam was placed and now it is worshipped as Mahabaleshwara. The cloth on the Atma lingam fell on the Kanduka hill which is now worshipped as Murdeshwara.
This was the first time I had seen such a huge statue. It is a must visit place for those on their way to Mangalore from Goa.

Gokarna, a coastal gem in Karnataka, is known for its stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and serene atmosphere. While it’s a year-round destination, choosing the best time to visit Gokarna can significantly enhance your experience. Whether you’re looking to enjoy the sun, indulge in water sports, or simply relax by the beach, staying at Kurma Private Beach Resort during the ideal season ensures you get the most out of your trip. Here’s a guide on the best time to visit Gokarna and why Kurma Private Beach Resort is the perfect place to stay during your visit.
Best Time to Visit Gokarna: October to March
The best time to visit Gokarna is from October to March when the weather is most favorable. During this period, the town experiences mild temperatures, clear skies, and a refreshing breeze, making it the perfect time for beach activities and outdoor exploration.
October to November: Post-Monsoon Bliss
October marks the beginning of the tourist season in Gokarna as the monsoon recedes, leaving behind lush greenery and rejuvenated beaches. The weather during this time is pleasant, with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 30°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities. The clear skies and cool breeze make October and November the best season to visit Gokarna for those who want to enjoy the natural beauty without the peak season crowds.
Staying at Kurma Private Beach Resort during this time allows you to experience the serene environment at its best. The resort’s private beach is particularly inviting, offering a tranquil escape where you can relax and soak in the beauty of the post-monsoon landscape. The rejuvenated flora and fresh, crisp air make your stay at Kurma even more special.
December to February: Peak Season Pleasures
The period from December to February is considered the peak tourist season in Gokarna. The weather is at its most comfortable, with daytime temperatures hovering around 32°C and cooler nights, making it the perfect time for all types of outdoor activities. This is when Gokarna sees the most visitors, drawn by the idyllic weather, vibrant atmosphere, and the opportunity to celebrate the New Year on its picturesque beaches.
Kurma Private Beach Resort becomes a hub of activity during this time, offering guests a perfect blend of luxury and excitement. The resort’s private beach is the ideal spot for a New Year’s celebration, where you can enjoy a bonfire by the sea, indulge in gourmet meals, and welcome the New Year in style. June to September: The Best Time to Visit Gokarna and Enjoy Monsoon Beauty
While the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, is not typically considered the best time to visit Gokarna, it does have its charm. The town receives heavy rainfall during these months, which brings the landscape to life with lush greenery and full rivers. However, the heavy rains can limit outdoor activities, and the sea can be rough, making it less ideal for beachgoers.
