hi, honey! do you have any boat/ship fics?
Hi Lovely!!
Here are the fics I have that take place on a Boat or a Ship of some kind! Literally just what I can remember in the moment, PLEASE add more if you guys have them! I've also added fics on my MFL list that have the tags :)
BOATS / SHIPS
Baetica Series by Jberry (E, 17,943 w. across 2 works || Post-S3, Fake Marriage For a Case, Cruise Ship, Homophobic Language, Developing Relationship) – John Watson and Sherlock Holmes must solve a case on a cruise ship. To get close to the crew and passengers, they must get married for the case on the Baetica. However, their relationship hits rocky seas both due to the case and internal conflicts.
The Kepler Problem by kinklock (E, 24,270 w., 1 Ch. || Sci-Fi AU || Alien Sherlock, Space Repairman John, Alien Biology, Horny John) – Working in uncharted space exploration was not as exciting as John had hoped, especially when it turned out to be mostly bot maintenance on uninhabited planets. However, the mystery of the repeated, unexplained malfunctions on planet BAK 2212 might turn out to be exactly the kind of adventure he'd been craving.
SpaceBois go to Space Series by elldotsee (E, 62,028+ w. across 3 works || Series WiP || Astronaut / Space AU || Scientist Sherlock, Biomedical Engineer John, Sherlock is William, Astronauts, Close Quarters, Shy Sherlock, Space Travel, Mutual Pining, Chemistry, Developing Relationship, Minor Injuries, Suicidal Ideation, Whump, Flirting, Angst with Happy Ending, Mars Colonization, Hurt/Comfort, Domestic Fluff, Zero-Gravity Sex, Alternating POV, UST/URT) – Will Holmes is a chemical researcher recognized widely for his contributions to the new Mars exploration program. Thanks to his ground-breaking developments, the IMMC (International Mars Mission Corporation) is one step closer to Martian colonization. Will and his team of scientists are headed out on the first of three manned missions before the first group of settlers arrive. Three days before launch, one of the crew has to be replaced. Will panics because...new people. The replacement is of course one John Watson, biomedical engineer and space hottie who was pretty sure he had retired from actual space exploration and was now content to work in the nice, quiet research lab. Can the crew survive this TOTALLY ROUTINE trip? Will they be able to endure each other for the looooooong trip in close quarters?
A Further Sea by i_ship_an_armada & ShinySherlock (E, 125,492 w., 23 Ch. || Historical Pirates AU || Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Doctor John / Pirate Captain Sherlock, Sailing, UST / RST, Masturbation, Action / Adventure, Mild Angst & Peril, Romance, Shaving, Molly/Janine, Bottomlock, Hand / Blow Jobs, Past Drug Use, Slow Burn, Mild Violence, Facial Shaving, Happy Ending) – Here be a tale of adventure for both body and soul, but beware if ye be not of stout heart, for this be piratelock, ya savvy? Luckless ship's surgeon John Watson takes a chance, and finds himself eye to eye with The Ghost, the scourge of the seven seas and a definite thorn in the side of the blaggard, James Moriarty. But when John finds there's more to this most cunning pirate than be meetin' the eye, he has to choose... is it a pirate's life for him?
MARKED FOR LATER
My, She Was Yar by blueink3 (M, 5,313 w. || Teenlock Cinema AU || Mention of Sex for Drugs, Fluff and Angst, Happy Ending) – YAR: adjective; (nautical term, of a sailboat) agile, quick, easily manoeuvred. Or, the exact opposite of what Sherlock Holmes is when he stumbles into John Watson's cinema and turns his life upside down. Part 7 of the Tumblr Prompts series
Below Zero by Calais_Reno (M, 10,912 w., 2 Ch. || End of the World AU || Falling in Love, Antartica, Space Station, Pandemic, Heavy Angst, Loneliness, Love, Hopeful Ending) – 10,000 miles south of London, John Watson sits in a research station in Antarctica. 210 miles above London, Sherlock Holmes is floating in a space station. They are Earth’s only survivors.
Rigging screws, size 1 3/8 inch, galvanised by AJHall (T, 15,250 w., 6 Ch. || Case Fic, Boat Safety) – On the eve of a planned voyage to Brittany, Marjorie Jameson starts her day with no problems more pressing than forcing a boatyard to do an emergency repair to the family yacht. A chance encounter at the Cowes hi-speed ferry terminal begins to unravel a web of conspiracy and murder, with her charming, untrustworthy husband Julian right at the centre and Marjorie as the next intended victim. But no-one's going to trust the word of an aging housewife whose complaints of abuse the police have previously dismissed as delusions.
The One Where Sherlock Doesn’t Ruin John’s Holiday by nutmeag83 (T, 18,898 w., 11 Ch. || Pre-TRF / S2 Timeline, Friends to Lovers, Cruise Ships, Vacation / Holidays, Fake Relationship, For Science, Bed Sharing, Cuddling/Snuggling, Mutual Pining, John POV, Minor Case Fic, Cooking, Dancing, Drunk Shenanigans) – John wins a cruise vacation for two and brings Sherlock along. But when it turns out to be a couples cruise, they have to pretend to be a couple themselves (for science). How many pretend kisses will it take before they can’t deny their feelings any longer?
To Belong Series by DrFish (T, 19,400+ w. across 4 works || Series WiP || Victorian / Mythical AU || OctoJohn, Scientist Sherlock, Attempted Kidnapping, BAMF John, Protective / Possessive John, Developing Relationship, Being Lost, Size Difference, Capital Punishment, Happy Ending) – William Sherlock Scott Holmes failed to graduate the University of Cambridge class of 1877. Adrift in London, he accepts a post as assistant naturalist on a scientific expedition to the Western Pacific Ocean aboard Her Majesty's Sailing Ship Frontier. Events do not proceed quite as planned and Sherlock finds himself cruelly cast away by his shipmates. Perhaps he will find salvation in the company of a most unlikely sea creature.
If I had a boat I would sail to you by Sunnyrea (E, 20,576 w., 1 Ch. || Titanic Fusion) – John is completely different and special from anyone Sherlock would normally come in contact with - no talk of money and hidden family secrets, no surface, superfluous conversations and blatant lies. John was the most honest person in less than five minutes Sherlock has ever met. He wants to know everything else there is to know about John Watson.
A Piece of Eight Series by by KtwoNtwo (T, 30,562+ w. across 5 works || Series WiP || One Piece Space AU || Character Study, Space Pirates) – Mankind has spread out through the galaxy on ships with solar sails and jump drives. Here be tales about a particular sector of the galaxy where the Commonwealth of New Britannia is adjacent to a gravitational anomaly commonly referred to as the Red Line. Avast all ye spacers, batten down the hatches and prepare for interesting weather; its a space AU crossover between One Piece and Sherlock.
Riptide Lover by jinglebell (E, 114,090 w., 20 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE|| Merfolk & Victorian AU || Mermaid Sherlock, Human John, BAMF John/Sherlock, Possessive Sherlock, Oral Sex, Hand Jobs, Mild Gore, Dubious Interspecies Consent, Stockholm Syndrome, Dark Romance, Dubcon and Morality, Rough Sex, Abstract Mentions of Rape, Size Queen, Switchlock, Foot Fetish) – The year is 1866. When John becomes swept overboard, he never expects to encounter a living creature of myth. When the merman absconds with John, the lost sailor must use every tool at his disposal to convince Sherlock not to kill him. But it seems that killing John Watson is not what the deadly, beautiful creature has in mind at all...
Over Fathoms Deep by bittergreens (E, 486,840+ w., 61/? Ch. || WiP || Historical / Regency / Sailing AU || Sailor!John / Aristocrat!Sherlock, Pining Sherlock, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Slow Burn, Virgin Sherlock, Sailing, Bottomlock, UST / RST, Hand/Blow Jobs, Frottage, Masturbation, Happy Ending, Anal) – When the youngest son of the aristocratic Holmes family is shipped off to sea in an attempt to cure him of his poor temper and bad manners, he fully expects to spend a long tedious voyage as miserable as ever. What he does not count on is having his heart stolen by the strapping young crewman, John Watson.

he bakes really well. that’s all he’s got going for him.
he either found his napoleonic military uniform at party city or at a thrift store with Marie Antoinette; his story changes depending on who he’s talking to.
he cut his own hair when he was 14. the following conversation after he did so was with caesar, and it was just the haircut scene from fleabag . he then continued to keep his stupid haircut to what it is now.
is a hopeless romantic. he can make up entire love poems & sonnets in his head about a girl he’s crushing on, but literally cannot talk to people without sounding like a douchebag unless he’s super comfortable w/ them.
Ivan the Terrible:
is an avid deftones, sewerslvt, & duster listener (i, unfortunately, ALSO have a playlist.)
spends his nights scrolling on 4chan and arguing w/ people. him & topher have accidentally argued w/ each other AT LEAST 5 times.
literally refuses to take off his ushanka in any weather. it doesn’t matter to him if it’s 90 degrees, that thing is staying ON.
kins Travis Bickle and Shinji Ikari. i mean, just look at this dude and how he presents himself. average NGE & Taxi Driver enjoyer/ hj.
fave video games are Postal 2 and osu!. he plays osu! phenomenally, to the point where it’s impressive. (pls put that energy into a job or something).
and yea that’s all the energy i have to write this down :]

Disney Month :Disney World Memories and my favorite ride
For this 12th installment of Disney month ....Imma talk about my favorite ride was
So things to know :So I am from Florida , and I was a kid of divorce ,so I went Walt Disneyworld a few time as a kid, sometimes with my dad ,sometimes with my bio mom .Funny enough both sets of parents did the same thing ,we would actually drive to Orlando and wed actually go to two theme parks,Disney World and Universal
Now I am being honest while Disney World was fun .....I have more Universal memories then Disney World ones . I have a few memories that come to mind, like my bio mom getting me a ceramic Disney set of Mickey,Donald,Goofy ,Minnie and Pluto and my first time going on Pirates of the Carribian ....Which was the year of the big refurbishment where Captain Jack Sparrow ,Davy Jones , and Barbossa put on the ride ,so we were in line a long time and we all agreed it wasnt worth the wait
As for what my favorite ride is I must put on the disclaimer ,I didnt go on every attraction . Sorry to say despite going there a few times,I never experienced all the uber famous rides at Disney :I always to much of a chicken to ride Space Mountain or Splash Mountain and the lines for the dark rides like Snow Whites Scary Adventure or Pete Pand Flight were always uber long .I didnt even go on the Haunted Mansion till my last trip over 10 years ago ,though that might be my favorite Magic Kingdom ride...But My two favorite rides were NOT at the Magic Kingdom but actually at what is now Disney Hollywood Studios but as I knew it as a kid Disney MGM Studios
There are two contenders for my favorite ride ...One is straight up gone and the other has been changed. The gone ride is the Great Movie Ride, which appealed to a young aspering movie nut that I was (I honestly have a bit of a goal regarding that ride which is to see every film that had a section in that ride ,having seen9 of the 12 ,I just need to see the Searchers,Footlight Parade and Tarzan the Ape Man ) . This wonderful love letter to classic cinema is gone replaced by Mickey and Minnies Runaway Railway ,which honestly looks fun ,but I am sad the Great Movie Ride is gone
As for what my favorite ride was as a kid ....We have to journey back to a long time ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away
Tumblr media
Based on the popular film franchise ,on the ride , opening in Disney MGM in 1989 (Though it had appeared two years before in Disneyland ) you enter a star cruiser that will take you on a tour of the forest moon of Endor ,piloted by RX-24 AKA Rex (voiced by Paul Reubins ) who is on his first flight, and things go wrong
So bit of context ,I was a Star WArs FANTAIC as a kid ,so it made perfect sense I would go gaga for a Star Wars ride ,and was before Disney owned the franchise ,so it kind of made this ride feel special ,one of the few non Disney properties in the park .Now there is a a whole Star Wars land (Which I havent been too ) and while I still have fondness for the franchise,I am not obsessed with it anymore like I was as a youngster .However I have such fond memories of this ride
I'll admit the Star Wars iconography helped ,it was fun to see an ATAT Walker at the entrance, you get name drops of Hoth and Tatooine,i and in the pre ride safety film you get cameos by Admiral Ackbar,Wicket ,and Chewbacca ,and even an appearence by deep cut character Teek from Ewoks Battle for Endor (Probabbly cause they had the costumes around but its still cool ) .The two coolest being at the end of the ride you do a trench run on the DEath Star (I know that makes NO sense considering this takes place AFTER REturn of the Jedi ,and at the time in canon the Emperor kind of exploded.....But who cares ,its rule of cool BABBBYYYY ) and animatronics of R2D2 and C3PO (Voiced as usual by Anthony Daniels ),and man as a kid seeing those two beloved characters in person was so neat
However I think the ride also stands on its own as a great ride .Through a brillaint mix of the Imnagineers technical know how and ILM's special effects ,we get one of the first big uses of motion simulators combined with a cool ride film ,making you feels like you are on a space ship being chased out of control . I also love Rex ,he is just a fun character,Paul Reubins does a good job voicing him (And I am delighted he has appeared in more Star Wars projects ) .You didnt need to know about Star Wars to dig it ,you ar just on this out of control spaceship with this goofy robot ,the sStar Wars stuff is flavoring not the whole point
The original ride is now gone sadly ,updated to include more iconagraphy .I have no oppinion on the updates but I do miss the old classic version ,kind of a peak at a simpler time in Star Wars history
Kind of a long one I know but hope you enjoyed my Disney World memories

Loofah in the Lamplight
Loofah in the Lamplight
Durham vs Open
Tumblr media
There has been a loofah in our lamp for the past six months.
For six months we slept mere inches from the bedside lamp, completely unaware that there was a loofah inside it.
We packed it up when moving house, and at no point in the intervening six months did either of us notice that the light was being, quite significantly, blocked by the presence of a (still-packaged and unused) loofah.
There’s a song called Sweet Leaf of the North by Leeds band Mik Artistic’s Ego Trip. It’s about a leaf that was caught on the windscreen of their van as they were driving down to London for a gig, and which stayed on the windscreen not only for the whole of the journey down south, but the entirety of the journey back north as well.
At a swimming competition in Inverness sometime around 2010, a crisp packet floated up on the thermal current of an air vent and remained hovering like a kestrel, half stuck on a ledge, for hours and hours. It may even have stayed there overnight, but that might be my memory embellishing things.
My friends and I thought this was the best thing ever.
Spotting ordinary things trapped in extraordinary circumstances can be a provider of great joy, or of great sadness. Powerful emotions either way.
The Twitter account lost footballs shares photos of footballs which have been lost, abandoned, or otherwise become tangled in the net of modernity in a way for which they were not designed.
Earlier today my basketball became caught in the basketball net and I had to use a pool cue to knock it down. These Burger King footballs were not so lucky.
In the case of our lamp loofah, the beauty comes not from the noticing but from the not noticing. Or the delayed noticing. How did we manage to go half a year without spotting the loofah that was in our lamp?
How does any loofah in any location go unnoticed for so long, let alone one which was literally being lit up on a daily basis.
But finally spotting the loofah brought with it much amusement. At ourselves, at the obscured light we’d been living with for so long. At the general absurdity of a loofah being in a lamp.

Observations
So my request for you, dear reader, is to look around. See whether you can spot any similarly strange combinations of objects and resting places. It is unlikely that there will be a loofah in your lamp, but there may well be something else equally intriguing.
Let me know what you find, but for now, let’s move on to another endeavour driven by the insatiable curiosity of the human spirit.
Tumblr media
Here’s your first starter for ten…
Nash gets Durham off the mark with Harare, an answer which also popped up in the missing vowels round of Only Connect, in combination with DLWR in the category ‘places that don’t rhyme’. Their bonuses are on glass, and they smash two of them, dropping the third.
Matrix gives Ancell another ten points for Durham, and they took a single bonus on pirates. Maving hit back for Open with Picaresque, but they couldn’t manage any bonuses on electric circuits.
Tumblr media
With her trademark blue hair and clasped hands under the chin, Open captain Westermann gets in on the action with first-round, but again they blanked on all of the bonuses. They did very well on the five-pointers in their first-round match but are struggling here.
Another for Nash wins Durham a bonus set on classical music. Ancell says ‘Rite of Spring. 100%’ for the first of these, which would have been embarrassing had he been wrong, but he was not. Phew.
The Northern side led at this stage by 75–20.
Open Season
Picking up a starter on Czech new wave cinema, Payne wins Open a set on geography. They miss the first two, and it looks like they’re on for an ignominious 0/9 run, but after some deliberation, they opt for the correct stan on the third (Kyrgyz).
Open took over now, closing the door on Durham. Six starters in a row, including three from Maving, put them in a commanding position. And they put their earlier woes on the bonuses behind them, getting extremely lucky with a random guess of a monarch.
By the time Ancell finally broke the rot with the Qing Empire, Open had been on a 125–0 streak, and the gap between the sides was now 70 in Open’s favour.
A streak of their own, with three starters in a row, brought Durham right back into it, but Westermann came in clutch with Hail Mary to seal the victory for Open.
Durham 115–180 Open
Another good match there. Durham looked to have fallen asleep but made things interesting in the last few minutes. Open have a chance of making the semis, but will need to come out the blocks quicker than they did on this occasion.
Next week sees Exeter vs Bristol — if you enjoyed this please subscribe for more reviews, even if the loofah is no longer in the lamp.

Working with Disney, a look behind the curtain
Featuring: Xavier (X) Atencio and Marc Davis
Here is a fun tale of mine, as a child I would go from time to time to the Disney Parks during Halloween season. My parents always planed it the same way. A week and a half of vacation, one day dedicated to one park and always on the same order: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood studios, Universal Studios, Island of Adventure and finally an extra slot to just chill at the hotel.
Now you may be wondering "okey well what the hell does this have to do with today's story?" Well you see my dear reader, all of these parks had one thing in common in my small child brain: they had pirates.
Tumblr media
I loved pirates as a kid (and still do to this day) and growing up I would watch anything related to pirates so combine that with the Disney Parks and you probably see where this is going. Pirates of the Caribbean, my favorite attraction of all the parks and also technically later a movie saga (though as a kid I never watched the movies and the one I did glitched in the cinema.... anyways). Pirates of the Caribbean shined as one of the things I would look up the most on these trips so imagine my reaction when thirteen years later Disney released a small documentary of the story behind it and that later on the stars aligned with me having to read this book.
So today's story is not about the pirates (though I will talk about them someway) Today's story is about the lives of the two master minds who created them and their stories when they worked with Walt Disney himself.
This is the story of Xavier Atencio and Marc Davis
Tumblr media
Xavier Atencio
I am starting with Xavier for two reasons. One: because his interview is more focused on one thing making it easier for me (and you) to understand how interesting his story is. And two: He has less info online sadly.
X... no not that name Elon choose for the twitter bird, Francis Xavier Atencio (X for short and his nickname in the studio) was an animator and imagineer that was born in Walsenburg, Colorado, 1919. He then studied at an Art School in order to crate a portafolio for Mintz studio but after the school's suggestion he send it to Disney and he got accepted.
Tumblr media
Side note
Because Colorado used to be part of Mexico before 1845 plus a wave of immigrants during the early 1900's I am 90% sure his last name used to be Artencio and somewhere down the family line they took the r out cause english speakers can't pronounce a heavy r. Just a random thought.
Xavier is interesting, he worked on the short "Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom" as an animator, worked on some scenes in Dumbo and Fantasia as an assistant for Woolie Reitherman (one of the nine old men) and later became an imagineer. (and yes he wrote the song for the pirates of the Caribbean ride and voiced the talking skeleton before the fall that's why I chose him)
But the most fascinating thing, for me at least, is the story of Disney during and after the strike.
Tumblr media
In 1941 workers at Disney went on strike, why? Cause Disney did not know how to run a company. People who were his pals got a raise and promotion while most people just stayed as inbetweeners while also the credits just said "Walt Disney" that's it, no other name mentioned so the workers went on strike in order to get better treatment, one of them being X. X in the interview narrated how he joined the strike (ironically not knowing what the strike was for) and it lasting all summer. After the strike ended instead of returning to work he would go join the US Army due to the war as a photo interpreter, returning later in 1945. Here's the thing because he went to the army right after the strike and returned after the war no one remembered that he participated on the strike, meaning he maintained not only Walt's trust but also his job in general.
Walt was resentful for the people who joined the strike and there for blacklisted and fired almost anyone who participated in it even going as far as claiming the people on the strike were Communists but Xavier didn't see anything of the aftermath, as stated in the interview:
"DP: Did you find there was any stigma attached to having been out on strike? XA: No. As I say, by the time I came back, everything had calmed down. As I understood from some of the other fellows, there were some awful bad feelings. But I never felt that I was deprived of any advancements or anything by the mere fact that I had been out on strike. Some of the guys who’d been out—for instance, Ken Peterson, who was one of the active people in the strike, he had a position of importance. So I think it was just a few individuals that bore a grudge."
What's worse is that the strike combined with the War lead to a heavy financial cut leaving people getting fired in massive waves usually on Christmas and if you did manage to stay chances are, if Disney didn't know you you were never getting a promotion "Some of those people that were in the business when I came and are still there are just professional inbetweeners or professional assistants who never had the ability to really go any further than that, and they’re still doing the same thing". So what happened to the people who left Disney and/or wanted to work on other industries outside of the company. Enter UPA, the manifestation of karma.
Tumblr media
United Productions of America or UPA for short was an animation studio characterized by their simple style and detachment from reality compared to Disney, this is because people at UPA wanted to experiment with their artistic vision leading to a new era in animation where the impossible became possible all thanks to animation and Disney HATED them. Time and time again Disney would lose to UPA in any way shape and form so when "Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom", an animation which Xavier worked on and by the way, was his first short film where he was credited, they had to mimic to a certain extend the style of UPA. Remember how Disney never credited their animators and just said "it's a Walt Disney's production" well according to Xavier "He never really claimed it as his picture. He said, “That’s Kimball’s picture.”" Talk about a resentful guy.
Marc Davis
I knew that Marc Davis worked on Pirates of the Caribbean but holy I did not know just how insane this guy is. One of the Nine old men of Disney, Marc Davis carried singlehandedly half of the company and I'm not even exaggerating.
Tumblr media
Born on March 30, 1913, in Bakersfield, California. Marc had been in 23 different high schools by the time he graduated and studies in Kansas City Art Institute, the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. He had a fascination for drawing animals, he would often visit the local zoo just to sketch the animals and the staff would eventually let him in early at the zoo just so he could make life drawings of the animals.
Tumblr media
His stories in Disney are just crazy even the way he got hired sound like something straight out of a book. When Marc moved to Los Angeles he decided to send a letter to Disney and then.
"I don’t know how they made the mistake, but it began, “Dear Miss Davis, Sorry, at the present time we are not hiring women artists.” I wish I’d kept the letter! I was sore and I dumped it in the trash and forgot all about Disney."
And you know what he did next? A couple of months later he got convinced by a coworker to apply again so he went to the Disney offices, sat down for an interview with the same person who rejected him via the letter and immediately got hired right there. Remember kids this was the 1920's women had 0 to no rights.
The marvelous young guys there were from all over the country, and a lot of them were from all over the world. It was a terribly exciting time...just didn’t really know what this thing was about; but the excitement was that every day, somebody did something that hadn’t been done before...Once you learned how to do something very well, you were never asked to do that again
Marc joined when Snow White was in production and worked as an assistant but when Bambi came around, that's where he got the chance to shine. Remember the drawings he would do of animals. Well at the time no one really knew how to properly give animals expressions less how to animate them but Marc's drawings were basically the groundwork for the entire film, being the character designer for almost all the animals as well as animating some scenes in Bambi and yet they forgot to put his name on the credits (how nice) but this lead to Marc being one of Walt's most trusted animators
"I began to know him. Walt had a lot of respect for me as an artist and for being knowledgeable about art, so I had some rapport in that area. As years went on, I had great contact with him in many, many areas. In later years, I had very close contact."
But that's not the only reason why Marc was a legend. He would then go on to crate the most iconic Disney villain, Maleficent. Even though Marc didn't like working on The Sleeping Beauty that much he did design a lot of the characters, mainly Aurora and Maleficent, but he had such clear vision for the way Aurora would move with her clothing that he even hired a costume designer in order to crate an exact replica of Aurora's outfit so that the actor for the rotoscope wore it making it easier to translate animated, that costume designer would later on become his wife, Alice Davis.
Tumblr media
And of course I have to talk about Cruela, how could I not talk about her. Marc single handedly animated every single scene she was in. Like I said before Marc didn't really like Maleficent that much because "She was just an evil character and had little or no personality, because all she did was make speeches." So when the time came to draw Cruela he went all out.
"I think she was a combination of things, an attempt to do a villainess that would be fun rather than a villainess that would just be terrifying."
Tumblr media
And that is just the tip of the iceberg regarding what Marc did, he would go on to crate Tinkerbell, he worked in Victory Through the Air, he then became an imagineer and designed The Tiki Room, he designed Jungle Cruise, It's a small world, Pirates of the Caribbean, he also worked on Alice in wonderland. This guys is in my opinon, more important and impressive than Walt Disney. Unfortunately due to how long this post is and how I lacked time to make it more detailed (midterms) today's story ends here but if I could believe me I could easily make a 30 minute long video essay just talking about this guys but that will be for another day.
Until next time
Happy Halloween!!

Too Old For This - Chapter 23 - Part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Warning Adult Content*
"We will stop at your place first," Leroy said, closing the door to the passenger seat before walking to the other end of the car.
He climbed in, starting the engine before adjusting the mirror right above.
Zachary just stared at the younger man, smiling a bit... mostly to himself.
He thought Leroy looked weirdly cute in his fitted black jeans, a green turtleneck and a brown jacket.
The younger man's hair was full and twisted in the cutest waves and curls at the nape of his neck and hairline as always.
Even now, Zachary's fingers itched just a little bit to reach out and touch them.
His eyes drifted to Zachary's brows, cute nose and then mouth and suddenly Zachary's face warmed up as memories from last night made him feel not so innocent anymore.
He looked away, staring out of the window as the car was pulled out of the driveway and into the main road.
"Wait, tell me you can eat movie popcorn, please?" Leroy asked and Zachary turned to look at him.
The older an furrowed his brows, thinking for a bit.
"I can eat plain popcorn."
Leroy sighed, resting his back on the driver's seat as his grip on the steering wheel.
"So no to excessively buttered cinema popcorn? Got it. I guess we can find a combo with a wrap or hotdog or something."
"I mean. I could have some popcorn."
Leroy shook his head.
"It's okay, I'm not mad or anything and besides, I don't think you want to experience an allergic reaction or diarrhea in a public restroom, trust me."
Zachary raised an eyebrow.
"Is it that bad?"
Leroy's eyes went wide as if he was recounting something.
"You have no fucking idea," he groaned, making Zachary chuckle and soon the young man was telling him quite the peculiar tale of taking a shit mid-road trip pit stop at a gas station.
Though it was funny and horrifying, a part of Zachary couldn't help thinking of it wistfully.
He personally had very little experience to talk about and the small mundane things Leroy had been through fascinated him.
For heaven's sake, he was going to watch a movie on the big screen for the first time and he couldn't help hoping that just like with this experience, he'd share many more firsts with Leroy.
He couldn't imagine sharing them with anyone else.
The discussion died down just before Leroy stopped the car in front of Zachary's place, he reached out his hand in front of Zachary, asking for the key.
"If you give me your key, I can go find your chair, so you don't have to come out," he said and the older man nodded, fishing for it on the backpack he'd put but his feet before handing it over to Leroy.
He watched the brown-eyed man leave the car and walk up to the bungalow, smiling a bit when the younger man paused at the stairs to pet the cat hiding under it.
He watched as Leroy disappeared into the house and a few minutes later the man was carrying a folded wheelchair with him out the door.
When Leroy loaded the chair in the trunk of the car, he climbed back into the driver's seat before starting the car.
"I think we're all set then," Leroy announced, smiling as he started to pull the car into the main road.
"I didn't pick a movie because I wasn't sure what you would want to watch but we can pick there but honestly, the cinemas are never packed anymore."
Zachary just listened.
He didn't have an opinion on that, seeing as he'd never been to a cinema.
He just knew that since streaming became a big thing people weren't looking to spend an arm and a leg watching something they could watch for half price subscribing to a streaming platform or straight-up pirating.
"So, are we getting a regular seat for me or..." Zachary trailed off, peeking behind him to see the handle of his wheelchair just beside the headrest of the back seat.
Leroy seemed to think about it for a while before sighing.
"Well, we stopped to get it because you need it," he said, stopping at a red light.
"Cinemas will have space for a wheelchair but I don't know what you want. I feel like, you should because I want to walk around with you at the mall before and after the movie but if you just want to see a movie and nothing else, then..." the pause was followed by nothing and Leroy just stared out into the road, waiting for Zachary to say something.
The older man stares down at his lap.
He twiddled his fingers as he attempted to come to a decision.
On one hand, being in his chair was more comfortable but on another hand, he didn't want to be stared at today... not because he couldn't handle it but because he didn't want Leroy to feel uncomfortable.
Sure, the younger man would deny it felt dehumanizing but Zachary knew it was. It didn't matter how they felt about each other... whether it was romantic or friendly... the fact was, just having Zachary in a chair would make people assume Leroy was his caretaker and that came with a lot of uncomfortable assumptions and connotations that would either be embarrassing or infuriating depending on who you were asking.
"I'd prefer the chair," he said in a low voice.
He fought the thought in his head that told him he might regret things.
Leroy had talked so much about going to this and that store and he wasn't going to tighten the outing in a way that they could only get a movie in.
Leroy raised a brow.
"Are you sure?"
Zachary nodded.
"Yeah. It's definitely better than stopping every five minutes to catch my breath," he admitted, sinking into his chair some more.
Leroy nodded, reaching out to touch Zachary's arm.
"If the crowd gets too much. I promise I won't get mad if you want to go home."
Zachary smiled a little bit, chuckling as he shook his head.
"Okay."
They were soon at the mall and Zachary could swear he hadn't seen that many people and cares in the same place.
It took forever for Leroy to find parking and when he did, it was quite a bit away from the main entrance.
Zachary said a silent thank you that he hadn't insisted on walking because he wasn't even sure if he'd be able to make it to the cinema just by himself.
He sat in the passenger seat as Leroy unfolded his chair and stepped out to sit on it when the younger man was done.
They made their way to the mall with Leroy walking right beside Zachary's wheelchair.
Zachary could admit he was overwhelmed.
The number of people walking around and talking we're putting his senses on overload.
The chatter mashed together in a way that sounded like buzzing from bad speakers.
The occasional kid crying didn't help matters.
Also, people walked so bloody close... centimeters apart... and that was generous.
If anything, people bumped into his chair often and it was starting to drive him insane.
The only thing that really kept his rage down was Leroy touching his shoulder and occasionally reminding him he was there right beside him... not alone... not by himself figuring things out.
"Do you want to go to the bookstore first, we have some time?" Leroy asked, as Zachary snapped out of his thoughts.
"Hmm? Sure, why not?" the older man said, looking over at the store Leroy had his eyes on.
A retail book distributor that housed a coffee store in it.
They stayed at the store for half an hour, and Zachary was grateful for it... it meant less people and a quieter environment and something to discuss with Leroy that they both enjoyed.
They didn't end up buying anything but whispering to each other as they looked through book descriptions and stared at book covers just left a warm spot in Zachary's chest.
It felt good... mundane... lovely. Leroy's mere presence made the experience noteworthy... cherish-able.

Describe your most recent purchase: I just replenished my Korean groceries – I restocked on chapaguri and bibimmyeon noodles and also got moksal and pork bulgogi so I can try cooking other meats at home besides my usual samgyupsal.
Did you enjoy the last movie you watched in theaters? The last thing I watched in full in the cinema was BTS' Busan concert when it had a worldwide premiere in like Feb last year. The first time I watched with friends; the second time I watched on my own.
If you make surveys, where’s the last place you saw a survey made by you on another person’s site? I've never made a survey. I don't think I'll be any good at crafting questions.
Do you take the subway train often (if your city has one)? We don't have that and our public transport is generally shit so you won't catch me in any of the trains that do exist.
What shoes did you wear today? Ivy Park sneakers since I needed to manage a branded event today.
Does your sibling have a significant other? As far as I know she doesn't. She had this...situationship...thing a few months ago but that's done.
Have you ever cried at a real wedding? No, but that's also because I haven't been invited to a wedding since 2007, when I was 9 years old.
How would you feel if a girl asked your boyfriend out for a drink? I don't have a boyfriend.
Do you live in an apartment or a house? House.
Do you use Skype? Nope. If I needed to video call with friends, we'd use Messenger. Facetime to a much lesser extent.
What do your flip flops look like? I have slides instead of flip flops, and they're a plain white pair of adidas ones.
Any idea what you want for your next birthday? I'll probably just treat my family out for either lunch or dinner. No big plans I think this year, as Angela is busy reviewing for her boards and I don't want to take her time by planning an out-of-town trip.
Are there any gadgets of yours that need charging right now? My phone definitely needs to be plugged in, it's hanging on at 2% right now hahaha.
What’s the name of your nearest grocery store? That would be SM.
What do you use to remove makeup? Water.
Which awards show would you wanna go to the most (e.g Oscars, Grammys etc.)? None of them, they all feel just like PR at this point. The big ones are almost always racist and favor men anyway so eh.
Any idea what time you’ll be going to bed tonight? I need to go to bed at around 10 or 11, because I plan on waking up at around 7 AM tomorrow to start working. I didn't do any work last Friday and over the weekend, so I need to make up for it.
Do you think George Clooney is hot? Not really.
Have you ever participated in local magazine cover girl searches? Nope. I joined in giveaway contests, but not cover girl stuff altogether.
What colour is your keyboard? Black.
Do you keep the plastic/paper/whatever bags after you buy stuff? To quote the Tiktok trend, we're Filipino, of course we hoard paper and plastic bags for any and every purpose, including using them as Christmas gift packaging. Not sure if it's practiced in other cultures but we are definitely not opposed to gift-wrapping something like a mug in an Apple, Pandora, or LV paper bag hahaha.
Do you own any high waisted pants? Yes! I like how the high waist finish looks on me so majority of my jeans/pants are in that style.
Do you know anyone who has two different coloured eyes? Yes.
Do you wanna be a pirate or an elf? Maybe an elf? I'm scared of pirates lol.
Have you ever purchased anything online? Yes, it's how I prefer to purchase most things. I've been accomplishing my Christmas checklists entirely online since 2021.
Gold or silver accessories? Silver.
Have you ever been called a skank/slut because of the way you dress? Not to my face, at least.
Have you ever ridden an elephant? Once as a teenager. I don't want to do it again.
Are you a fan of acrylic nails? Sure.

(2021) Entertainment after isolation: a sudden shift or acceleration of the inevitable?
I wrote this article in 2021 as a piece of A-Level English Language coursework, it reflects on and evaluates the state of entertainment media after and during the pandemic.
Everybody was affected by COVID 19 and the subsequent lockdowns. The restrictions put in place resulted in many things we took for granted changing, amongst these being the way we consume media.
Audiences fulfil many needs by interacting with entertainment mediums however the pandemic changed our priorities. The social impact of a hit show has been amplified far beyond the water cooler, expanding across the internet, but in a world without social events and workplace chat Tweets counted more. An example of this social importance during lockdown can be seen with Marvel Studios first TV escapade, Wandavision, which for all its viewers spawned an inescapable current of rumours and debate which a lot of people seemingly felt the need to be a part of hence Wandavision being 2021’s most pirated show.
It’s been easy to spot trends in a society deprived of anything non covid related to talk about, we’ve seen some surprise viral hit; you must remember watching Tiger King or at least seeing Tik Tok’s take on the Netflix show. It’s not a shock to see outlandish content entertaining people especially with the phenomenon of ‘News Blues’ hitting hard as people tune into weekly broadcasts and controversy.
Through all of this what happens to cinema? The new Spiderman proved that audiences are still willing to venture into the frightening wild as long as you have enough fanfare around a product however if you’re not pushing an action epic it will be a struggle, with the reopening of cinemas in August 2021 only seeing 50% of pre pandemic profits. The return of the entertainment industry as we remember it won't happen, rather an evolved form will take its place.
Television can continue to prosper
COVID restrictions were in force and headlines reported news of disease and social unrest but shows like It’s a Sin and Line of Duty still garnered high viewership even with stories focussing on health and corruption, topics you’d assume had been saturated by current affairs. However, with the suspense carried by episodic dramas and social discourse generated it begins to make sense why people would be interested, and having relatable topics isn’t a bad thing. It’s not only hard-hitting dramas delivering quality entertainment. As identified by the Thinkbox the ‘doing shows’ show of the past have gone through a renaissance with hits like The Repair Shop and Clarkson's Farm taking the instructional, informative style but infusing drama and emotion whilst maintaining some reality. Even with the heralded demise of broadcast television it’s clear people will continue to tune in given that your show has the social impact, relevance, and gravitas to interest viewers. Niche products do still have a place when they can connect more with viewers.
2. Viral Viewing and Cultural Relevance
Not everyone will consume your product based on supposed quality alone, especially when a trip to the cinema could be risky, or its exclusive to a new SVOD service, this requires any release to have some ‘hype’ and with all the spare time people have had to tweet about and meme things we’ve seen even more devoted fandoms and viral successes. This is why unique iconography and memorable musical motifs are even more important when trying to create mainstream content and the mockery of your product not necessarily being a bad thing. Social media trends allowed some releases to transcend their target audiences notably with Squid Game’s popularity on Tik Tok leading it to reach primary school playgrounds despite its 15 rating.
3. Social Connections in the digital world
As everyone’s day-to-day lives adapted, so that they could be conducted from home, the take up and development of various online platforms was greatly accelerated and it’s no surprise to see companies desperately leveraging this market with new communications features and the elusive but vague promise of “The Metaverse”. These changes are easier to observe in the videogame industry where convergence of social events, general discourse, and entertainment has already taken place inside huge online experiences like Fortnite and Roblox where concerts and even businesses are taking place within them. It's no longer just enough to offer entertainment, audiences will be expecting more of an expansive social experience that fulfils all their needs. As this way of socialising becomes more common, we can hope for enhanced awareness as to the effects and dangers that could come from this future. Though all the events proceeding the news of lockdown in March 2020 have been controversial we all can agree that the restrictions on our lives have irreversibly accelerated some inevitable changes in the media industry and primed us for a future where we become an active audience in all forms of entertainment we interact with. As we move towards this, we can continue to look back on how TV, film and videogames changed and attempted new things as they tried to figure out entertainment after isolation.

So neither I nor my parents stopped being sick (I’m saying it that way because I do feel far better than a week ago), therefore most of my birthday celebartions were moved to a different day.
Still, I’ve had two ideas for what I wanted to do this day: watch new Puss in Boots movie in theaters and order something nice (like Pizza na Wypasie, or sushi) for dinner.
I was especially looking forward for the trip to cinema, because people keep on saying that this movie is amazing, but just in case I wouldn’t be able to contain my caughing in the noon/afternoon, I’ve got a plan B: good ol’ pirating sides. Especially because I found some with high quality versions of this movie.
Nevertheless, I hope that something good will happen today - I will get some birthday wishes, some YouTuber will release interesting video... - and this birthday will feel special at least a little.

THE MR. RUDE APOLOGISM MASTERPOST
you may be asking "Oh dear god what has Finn gotten up to this time?" well, that my friend, is a very valid question! The answer to which is as follows: He's rewatched every single TMMS segment with Mr. Rude in it to prove that he's done nothing wrong!
After many many hours of rewatching, I've come to some conclusions on the depressed tomato man. I'll give a quick rundown here, then throw my episode by episode analysis under the cut.
Season 1
Mr. Rude is in 30 episodes in Season 1.
In only 3 of these episodes does he do anything wrong.
In 4 of the episodes where he's innocent, Mr. Fussy yells at him for no reason.
Season 2
Mr. Rude is in 30 episodes in Season 2.
In only 6 of these episodes does he do anything wrong.
In 1 of the episodes where he's innocent, as well as one where he did do something wrong, Mr. Fussy yells at him for no reason.
Conclusions
In total, Mr. Rude only actually did anything wrong in 9 out of the 60 segments he's in, which is 15%. That's less than a quarter of the time. Even counting the three episodes I was unsure about, that's only 12/60. 20%. Still less than a quarter.
Why have I been bringing up Mr. Fussy? Because this experience genuinely made me not like him anymore. In only one out of Mr. Fussy's 7 appearances with Mr. Rude does he not yell at him, and in five of the times he does - it was completely unjustified.
Now, onto the episode by episode section!
Ah, you wanna see my episode by episode analysis? Well, I'll give you a quick color legend first.
Yellow - Mr. Rude does nothing wrong
Red - Mr. Rude does something wrong
Blue - Mr. Fussy yells at Mr. Rude for no reason
Pink - I have no idea what to put for this one lmao
Also, there's a ton of cursing in here because I wrote these notes as I went along and I don't feel like editing them to be more professional. You get what you get when it comes to Mr. Rude apologism.
SEASON 1
Flying - He does nothing wrong, he just asked Mr. Grumpy to do his fucking job. Though, I will admit, he was a dick about it.
Music - He does nothing wrong, Miss Naughty is a fucking bitch and Mr. Fussy targeted him for no got damn reason even though he has fucking ears and should have heard Miss Naughty going off on her fucking cymbals. Miss Naughty also tried to poison him so
Farm - He does nothing wrong, those bitch ass crows broke his fucking robot I cant believe this.
Booboos - He does nothing wrong, he literally just wants some decent service while he is in the fucking hospital and Mr. Scatterbrain is a fucking moron about it
Mall - He's barely in it and I will admit he is a bit of an asshole in this one but he doesn't do anything explicitly wrong
Birthday - He does nothing wrong, he just wants to buy a birthday present for his homie Mr. Grumpy. In fact, he shows that he cares about his friend because he knows what he would want (and gets something he wouldnt like, presumably as a joke). Hes a caring friend but also a troll.
Superstore - He does nothing wrong, he just wants to return his shitty toaster. It ends up well for everyone involved :)
Books - He does nothing wrong, he is literally just neurodivergent and cannot read social situations
Camping - He does nothing wrong, he tried to warn everyone that they were going the wrong way, and then called out Miss Whoops on her fucking bullshit and putting everyone in danger. He then proceeded to fucking die. Miss Daredevil doesnt even give a shit about two of the raft riders fucking dying what the fuck.
Paint - He does nothing wrong, he just wants to finish his painting commission.
Jobs - This is the one I time I'll admit he does something really wrong. He commits multiple driving related crimes, as well as throwing his sandwich at Mr. Quiet, splashing Mr. Nosey and Mr. Small, and taking advantage of Mr. Scatterbrain's stupidity. He also crumpled up Mr. Scatterbrain's drawing of a hamster.
Trains - He does nothing wrong, Mr. Fussy's a bitch ass motherfucker, and he did more good than bad because he rescued Mr. Messy at the end.
Fair - He does nothing wrong, he got a fucking pie yeeted at him of course he wouldn't like it. He does put the pie in Mr. Scatterbrain's face though but he already got it in his face so it's just even now. He then proceeds to be pelted with pies. But thankfully it seems like they're both having fun by the end.
Movies - Yeah he's a bit of an asshole in this one. He puts too much cheese on Mr. Happy's nachos (and then throws them at him). He does get his karma though cause he gets fucking trapped in the popcorn machine someone please save him oh my god.
Dance - He does nothing wrong, he just has taste.
Inventions - He does nothing wrong, Miss Chatterbox just doesnt like him for the way he is which is super fucked up of her. What the fuck, man. He accepts Miss Chatterbox's invention regardless. He then proceeds to be abused by everyone around him. Hes totally justified in being mean at the end.
Amusement Park - Okay yeah he was an asshole in this one, cause he was rude to Miss Calamity about her supposed grooming habits. However, he was also abused a lot during multiple of the bumpers, which I guess counts as karma.
Adventure - He literally doesnt even do anything in this one
Rainy Day - Dude, his entire fucking family died. Give him a break.
Games - He did nothing wrong, he won the fucking game but Mr. Scatterbrain took the credit what the fuck he only had 3 POINTS MR RUDE HAD 4 MR. HAPPY YOU DUMB YELLOW FUCK LEARN HOW TO COUNT
Restaurants - He does nothing wrong, Mr. Fussy is so fucking mean to him I will never get over this he deserves so much better what the fuck
Cars - he's just vibin man
Canned Goods - He does nothing wrong, he just ate some beans man
Collecting - he's barely in it and just kinda vibes
Full Moon - He does nothing wrong, he legit just got kidnapped by some fucking aliens with his alien husband
Heatwave - He does nothing wrong, 6 gay men just casually committed acts of Home Invasion and are going to be arrested for their crimes against him.
Sleep - He does nothing wrong, and I doubt anyone would have even noticed he was asleep if Miss Chatterbox kept her fucking mouth shut. He cant control what hes doing if hes fucking asleep. Even after all that he still clapped for Mr. Fussy, who hates him, at the end. What a champ.
Carwash - He does nothing wrong, Miss Calamity technically fucking kidnapped him what the fuck.
Lawns - He does nothing wrong, he didn't want to take his lawn to begin with and then got his lawn ruined for literally no reason, even after warning Me. Nosey and Mr. Small that their invention was gonna explode. He even gave Miss Chatterbox the joy in knowing she "won".
Parade - He does nothing wrong, he legit just made a float and Mr. Fussy fucking bullied him for it. What the fuck.
SEASON 2
Clean Teeth - Yeah hes a bitch in this one but Mr. Fussy was also a bitch so it evens out.

Game Shows - He does nothing wrong like. Genuinely nothing, and then gets physically assaulted.
Hats - He does nothing wrong, Mr. Grumpy's just a fucking bitch and took credit for both his and Mr. Tickles hats. What the fuck, man.

Up and Down - He's fine for the first bit but I will admit hes an asshole in the second one
Gifts - He does nothing wrong, he's just trying to keep Mr. Tickle from fucking assaulting people. Then his entire store is destroyed for no reason.
Sun and Moon - He does nothing wrong, he barely did anything at all
Telephone - I refused to watch this one I just know hes a bitch in it
Washing and Drying - He does nothing wrong, he just wanted his laundry done and he got assaulted at the end. Why is this a trend.

Out to Sea - He doesn't do anything wrong, it makes sense for him to act in his own self interest because he was stuck on a deserted island with those three morons for 30 fucking days. He didn't intend to take the boat, because the tide rolled him out. He is now inevitably going to die.
Next Door - Yeah hes a bitch in this one, but he didnt deserve to get his fucking car crushed.
Lunch - He doesn't do anything wrong, Mr. Stubborn drew first blood.
Machines - This is a weird one. Is he really in the wrong for wanting to go home? I mean, it's safe to assume Miss Giggles is fucking dead if she was taken by a dinosaur. He even vows not to doubt Miss Daredevil at the end and is happy to see Miss Giggles okay
Fairies and Gnomes - even though he thinks it's silly that Mr. Nervous is scared of a garden gnome, he still "arrests" it to make him happy :)
Home Improvement - He doesn't do anything wrong, Mr. Stubborn is just a moron.
Birds - He doesn't do anything wrong, he was even nice enough to invite Mr. Nervous along for the birdwatching trip. He's totally justified in not giving a shit about Mr. Fussy because Mr. Fussy has been nothing bit horrible to him the entire show.
Parks - He does nothing wrong he just wanted a burger
Surprises - Refused to watch this one again, I just know hes a bitch
Wow, that's a lot. Anyways, as a proud Mr. Rude apologist, I conclude that he's an innocent man and doesn't deserve the shit he gets. I can get taking his drivers license though that man cannot drive for the life of him
