FC Barcelona vs. Napoli score, player ratings: Barca head to second leg level after Ferran Torres' goal

Napoli went on the road and got a great result at Barcelona on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs. Luciano Spalletti's side drew Barca, 1-1, at the Camp Nou after scoring the opening goal of the night through Piotr Zielinski. Barcelona were the best side for most of the game, especially in the second half when Xavi's side managed to score with Ferran Torres on a penalty kick. But Barca failed to add to their scoreline and things will be all square heading to Naples next week with a spot in the UEL round of 16 on the line.

Barcelona had moments in the first half as well, especially through Torres and recent addition Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Napoli waited to spring the counterattack, and Zielinksi pounced on an opportunity, rocketing his own rebound into the back of the net.

Zielinski positive, Juve-Napoli remain uncertain

As expected, all the players and staff of Naples carried out a second screening for the Covid-19 yesterday. If the first test of the week was negative for everyone, we learn today that a member of the staff and Piotr Zielinksi tested positive during the second.

The news was communicated by the Neapolitan club. Zielinski will have to observe a period of quarantine and he will therefore not be able to participate in the match against Juventus, scheduled for Sunday evening at the Allianz Stadium. A tile for the azzurro club which will also be deprived of Lorenzo Insigne (injured).

Tomorrow, the entire Neapolitan squad will have to perform a third and final test to make sure that no other player or squad member is positive. It is only once the results are communicated that we will know if the Juve-Napoli game can be played on Sunday or if it will have to be postponed as Genoa-Torino.

Udinese v Napoli: Official Line-Ups

Napoli pair Dries Mertens with Arkadiusz Milik up front, as they travel to stuttering Udinese in Serie A on Saturday evening.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti has yet to play the same line-up in consecutive fixtures this season, and fails to do so again with a two-man attack and bolstered numbers in midfield.

Jose Callejon and Simone Verdi provide the width, either side of midfield duo Allan and Piotr Zielinski, who both face their former club.

The major absentee is Lorenzo Insigne, who was not fit enough to travel and misses a Serie A match for the first time since December.

Udinese continue to rely on the goals and creativity of Rodrigo De Paul, and the newly capped Argentina man is set to play off a fellow international debutant in striker Kevin Lasagna, who featured for Italy last week.

Goalkeeper Simone Scuffet will look to impress once more, whilst midfield enforcer Valon Behrami captains the Zebrette against his former club.

Italy scrape draw with Poland thanks to late penalty

Italy needed a late penalty from midfielder Jorginho to scrape a 1-1 draw at home to Poland in the Nations League on Friday, their first competitive game under coach Roberto Mancini.

Poland, playing their first match under new coach Jerzy Brzeczek, who replaced Adam Nawalka following their World Cup group stage exit, went ahead with a superbly executed Piotr Zielinski volley five minutes before halftime.

With the home crowd getting restless, Italy were rescued in the 78th minute when visiting midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski fouled Federico Chiesa in the penalty area.

Brazilian-born Jorginho calmly converted to ensure the points were shared in the League A Group Three game.

Italy travel to European champions Portugal in their next match in UEFA's new competition on Monday.

"It was the first big game so there were some mistakes but overall the lads did well," said Mancini.

He gave Fiorentina left back Cristiano Biraghi his debut in Italy's first competitive match since the infamous 0-0 draw against Sweden in November which caused them to miss the World Cup for the first time in 60 years.

Late tackle

Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini quickly made his mark on Poland striker Robert Lewandowski with a late tackle which earned him a booking in the eighth minute but it failed to deter the Poles who looked dangerous on the counter.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made two outstanding point-blank saves to foil Zielinksi in the first half hour but was powerless to stop another effort from the Napoli player in the 40th minute.

Jorginho was caught in possession, the ball was quickly fed to Lewandowski on the left and he floated a delightful cross to the far post where the unmarked Zielinski volleyed home.

Federico Bernardeschi, who had Italy's best first-half chance when he shot wide from the edge of the area, missed from a similar position after the break.

Mario Balotelli, whose only contribution was a first-half shot which sailed high and wide, was replaced by Andrea Belotti, although Mancini noted the forward was short of match practice.

"He's a striker of international level, he just needs to play," he said.

Italy then looked more dangerous and needed a penalty to salvage a point but there were encouraging signs for Mancini.

"They are all lads who can do well in the future as they showed in the second half," he added.
