Why Are Parent's Such Incredible Fuckheads?
Good Afternoon, Void, hope your continued existential crisis is going well enough.
I work in SpEd as a paraprofessional (the ones you see supporting in classrooms most of the time, and also teaching in those little classrooms) and it's a joy, especially because I'm with the littles~
Some of these kids may be actual assholes, but currently they aren't going to always be like that if we give them the needed skills every human should have to function. There's many parents who are stupendous advocates who see us as allies so we can both help each other succeed, but there's always a handful that HATE their Special Needs child. The type who are first to drop of their child, and always late to pick them up. The type who blame everyone for any issues they have, even ones they are refusing to accept help to fix.
There are parents who've barked at us for "parenting" their child, but are clearly mentally ill (consistent delusions of grandeur, insists the family is exceptional geniuses who have been studied by the government. The kid's failing in many subjects and parents demand we better support their child, but also forbid us from any negative consequences. "Our child learns more from positive reinforcement" is the reasoning, but pretty sure they just don't give a shit about their kid and think this move will keep us from calling them almost daily as that is the last tier in the negative consequence cake we dig through with this kid. That kid must've had a hollow leg or some shit, they're an expert at bothering others and being a giant "look at me, I'm so funny hahahaha" piece of shit.
I don't think parents realize that those kids will have that naturally resolved by bullying later in life, or isolation. I promise you, most teachers try real hard, but not everyone will tell on their bullies, and some of those bullies are really good at keeping it subtle and really passive aggressive. [My anecdote is how when I was in elementary, the girls in my class bullied me by never talking to me outside of commands and letting (making) me carry their bags and follow them around at recess. Teachers never caught on and stopped it because I too was a SpEd kid and didn't have any clue until hindsight kicked in. To them it likely looked like I was happy doing all of that, because back then I was, but yeah I was super bullied in passive aggressive ways like that]
Shame is natures consequence to inappropriate behavior, and I dislike any parent setting their kid up to fail by convincing them it's fine to be "shameless". Can it hurt their feelings sometimes? Stress them out or make them cry? Yes! They will face this even more harshly as adults, so it's very good that they have these experiences while there's lot's of learning time for them. As a parent, your kid will only have as good as self esteem as you give them, which requires effort and time and money, which a LOT of parents, especially in Utah, don't generally have.
Seriously, I feel so bad that some of my students are being molded into "that kid", you know, the weird or annoying kid you always hated because they made school harder for you? Yeah, being helpless to try and curb that behavior is maddening. I really think people should pass a fucking test to have kids, I am exhausted dealing with narcissistic, lazy, entitled, ignorant (your child isn't a retard, and neither are any of my other students, you miserable cow), aggressive, and helpless parents.
Yeah... that's how the first week back from winter break has been!
Yay~! /s
To add to my struggles, I also live in a religious pile of shit, it's a state called Utah, and as someone who is non-religious there are so many things that are normalized here that boggle the mind. One of them of which
I
L O A T H E
Many of the parents here will ruin the fun of two dozen kids because their dumbass thinks coloring a picture of a witch will suddenly make them worship Satan, or watching Harry Potter will make them turn to witchcraft, all sorts of dumb shit. Bruh, they're kids and YOUR kids, if you think coloring a picture or seeing a movie will so easily damage your teachings, then maybe your teachings are really weak in reasoning.
But I digress, the main theme of today's post:
Why Religious People Need To Leave The Arts Alone: A memoir
So, living in Utah my entire life, I've been stuck dealing with a bunch of sheltered babies in the bodies of teenagers and adults. The kinds of people who find offense in the most basic parts of humanity, those feeble minded fucks who imagined up VidAngel, you know. Pearl clutching snowflakes who think they can control the human experience and lives of others.
You see this en masse in the arts. Really, and I don't understand WHY.
Now, you see, at first you'd think "Huh, what's wrong with religious people expressing themselves? They have just as much a right to do so!" but that's not where they stop, they go on to rip up other peoples hard work, they go full Chinese government on musicals and movies and shows, it's aggravating.
It's one thing to not want your kid to swear, that's fine, there's tons of replacement words. It doesn't change that we all know what swear word it's supposed to be, but whatever helps you sleep at night.
The rest of their requests are spineless bullshit.
Mormons have some fucking gripe with shoulders, you'd think they were actually puritans with how fucking out of their way they go to make even non religious people dress to their standards. So any costumes that were sleeveless, strapless, halter topped, or any sort of thing shorter than a cap sleeve, those costumes were fucked up by having sleeves either added, or you had to wear a fucking t shirt under it. (Do you know how fucking lame it felt to tap dance in a super pretty and really cool flapper girl dress, but have on a fucking black tshirt underneath that made the dress catch on my torso funny? I felt like I was six, not seventeen.)
They got a problem with men having facial hair or long hair in general, you know, the Disney standard. That's changed some a bit in the last few years at least. (To be that bitch, I'm ever so mildly annoyed that of course it's the men's issues that are relaxed first.)
The last biggest thing is the aversion of anything romantic/sexual, ESPECIALLY if between unmarried people. I agree with the sexual stuff, no, the sixteen year old doesn't need to shake her tits or ass at the audience like an adult would preforming this role.
But to have a stroke over, GASP, the mention of premarital relations is fucking obnoxious.
Now, the trigger for this bitching:
I volunteer to help with our schools show choir. It's great, there's a lot of kids clearly more in it because their parents have a desperate need for vicarious living (I empathize kiddos), but overall a gaggle of A-for-Effort and You've-Been-Training-Your-Whole-Life-For-This kids who make ya smile. We're prepping the set list for the spring concert, and today our finalizing was fucking ruined. Why?
Because Grease Lightning is inappropriate for children, somehow. No seriously, we'd already done a rough run to see how the kids liked it (you know, they gotta like it to perform it) and they all LOVED it! So exciting! "We're gonna get to wear leather jackets?!?!?!?!" "A car race?!!??!" "We're gonna look so cool!!!!!" "SOLO'S WOOOO!!!"
Lot's of energy, simple arms and legs and all of that to get a good rough sketch of what it might look like several months from now, kids love it, and the key we found is in their range! Hell yes! Our musical review flavored show choir concert was set!
But nooooo, no no, Grease Lightning is not appropriate. Just the song.
We don't like, watch the show or give any much context, the kids don't really need it to sing and dance. They can barely do that at the same time and you think these poor kiddos are trying to balance a proper CHARACTER on top of it? Let's set them up for success please, lol.
But Utah legit has a fucking problem with those kinds of shows: Grease, Footloose, Bye Bye Birdie, all of those classics that are fun, spunky, energetic, but still a bit of conflict and angst, easy entertainment!
Drinking. Smoking. Swearing. Pretending to be drunk or otherwise inebriated. Pretending to kill/attack someone. All of it is pretend, fake, but also not shit they don't see in the real world. There's still beer ads and alcohol usage in many many many places, even in songs the parents LET THEM LISTEN TO w h a t.
There's still smokers, and vapers, and now there's even fucking weed!
People still wear tube tops and short shorts and all sorts of revealing shit just to be comfortable, especially in a DESERT.
There's swearing everywhere, but also your kid for sure, 100% knows what all the swear words are, because the parents that don't give a shit if their kids know tell them. Idiots.
And the fake violence is literally ALL these cute little shits do: Cops and robbers, soldiers/army, Squid Games, Death touch, Monster destruction, huggywuggy chase, they do all of that every recess. Then the video games, and you know, cartoon violence in general, so seriously, suck my metaphorical dick on that sort of pearl clutching.
I hate that next week I'm going to have to tell them the song has been cut, and I wish we could fucking single that parent out, because it's only O N E parent (technically set of parents, out of 46) who disagrees with the song in it's current child friendly form.
Remember all those "Oh fuck you" moments where one piece of shit person ruined it for everyone, but only because the authority permitted it? Like that one kid keeping everyone in from recess, or the one kid keeping kids from getting through their lessons at a decent pace because the teacher has to keep stopping to fucking deal with them? The ones that made you heave a groan and roll your eyes and hate your teacher?
Yeah, that's this, but some 3rd party fuck who inserted their kid into performing while apparently not realizing that their entire gripe with it is fucking insane and unrealistic, which is ironic considering that it's all about fictitious little stories.
I want these shit ass parents to understand that in a perfect world, they wouldn't be allowed to reproduce because God would've made them sterile. (Proof he doesn't exist lmao)
They're people who prefer ignorance, plus more insultingly AND worryingly, try to force this ignorance onto others. It's not like some food allergy, it's a fucking choice to pitch a bitch fit about innocuous things, and I'm tired of dealing with the parents, as a teenager trying to enjoy performing in High School (And feeling like a loser when my costume had to have some fucking tshirt underneath it) and then in College where the Department Head enforced it because "the community wouldn't agree to this sort of thing", and now as I teach and support students myself, I'M the poor fuck who has to be the bad guy and ruin fun shit for kids.
I seriously wish people like this would just fucking homeschool then, if they're so concerned about their child being heavily sheltered. You've sent them to fucking P U B L I C S C H O O L you moron. Just because the activity or curriculum is "heathen" free doesn't mean your kid isn't surrounded by heathens constantly, making friends with them, learning bad words and potty jokes, and all sorts of shit.
But I suppose that just religious people in general. (Those of you who aren't like these kinds of losers know who you are, obviously. But of course the ones who need to hear it most never fucking listen)
I've met tons of normal people who, even having served a mission and been incredibly devout, shed their garments to properly perform, dance, swim- just like anyone else. To them it's no different from any uniform. Just as in some careers you must get very dressed up, some you need to be dressed down. I just want to publicly shame these imbeciles, because clearly no one did it early enough to correct the behavior naturally when they were younger.
Most times, luckily, the kids don't really know what they're missing. But man to see those kids and how poorly they function as adults, and how easily taken advantage of they are, it kills me. I could prevent it, we could all prevent it, but no, in sixteen whatever some unlikable puritan fucks got kicked out of every country willing to house them, so they went to somewhere "uninhabited" to be fucks by themselves, then unwitting travelers and immigrants got suckered in by them or even just their community habits spread out more and more and spawned a whole bunch of baby religions or bumped them up to popularity, and now we're here. I hate H E R E.
But, as it goes,
I'll deal with it using as much grace as available to me, and find a new way to get the kids pumped. We've decided to just let the kids give us suggestions and see if maybe some of them might have plausible ideas! We think it'll help them perk right up. Silver lining~
Enjoy the mouthful, Void, it's been fun, see you when I see you~

Bigots are not entitled to my sympathy and emotional labor at their time of need or if their grief is real.
Here's a thing I see a lot of lefty white progressives fail to grapple with. You're all ready and rearing to go when it comes to picking fights with bigots who are posturing strength. You're there to yell at them and boo them and make cruel remarks about them, trying to alienate them from the community, when they're acting like the cartoon cutout of a bigot: spewing slurs and talking shit and being hyper aggressive dipshits.
But then being alienated actually works, and the bigot suddenly crumbles into a weakened, emotionally vulnerable, hurt and grieving mess. And some of you - the decent-ish kind who think social justice is about being nice - recoil in horror at the idea of alienating someone who's already down. You think refusing to acknowledge their feelings or offering sympathy to their plight is kicking them when they're down.
(Others, are fucking ghouls who're in it for the acceptable targets to be dicks to and thoroughly enjoy being a fucking monster and relish in the suffering and hurt you cause, the actual "cause" you're championing being utterly immaterial and not at all a consideration for your actions.)
Here's the thing.
Bigots are, 100%, people. They are human and they have needs and feelings and go through pretty much all the same milestones of the human experience we do. But when you're a bigot, you're actively trying to deny others participation in society. Bigots aren't bigots because they're mean. Bigots are bigots because they genuinely want to destroy entire sections of the human population. They want to deny human rights to people they have deemed "not people." They're hateful fucking monsters who want to warp society so that only they can benefit.
When we stand up to bigots, we push them out of society. We deny them access and participation in society, because their actions and behaviors are toxic and harmful. That doesn't mean they're not human. That's not denying their human rights or their inherent human qualities.
It just means we don't fucking want them as part of our society, because they actively and aggressively make our society worse. We don't want them when they're being bullies and pretending to be strongmen who will aggro anything and everything, flinging slurs and threats of violence or worse. And we also don't want them when they're weakened and hollowed out and crying and falling to pieces.
We don't want them, not because they're pathetic or broken or hurt, but because they're bigots. Because they will take whatever kindness and support they can steal away from our society, and rather than give back, they will use their renewed strength to go right back to spewing hate and slurs and doing their best to dismantle our society.
We don't want them because they're bigots.
The entry fee to be part of society is to no be a fucking bigot.
If their weakness moves you? That speaks of your compassion, but I invite you to redirect it to people who are suffering and didn't also spend all their strength in trying to get people killed. There's plenty of people out there, who are weakened and broken and grieving and sad. How about focusing your sympathy on them, instead of the fucking bigot asshole who fucked around and then found out?
Bigots are not entitled to my sympathy and emotional labor. I don't deny they might be going through horrible things. Horrible things happen to all sorts of people. But if you fucking spend your entire life trying to swing a goddamn mace at my house, constantly trying to find a way to bring down the walls... you don't get to come to me, whimpering in winter, because you need somewhere to stay.
You made your fucking bed, now sleep in it.

It always irritates me when I see people talking about Christianity like it’s the absolute embodiment of bigotry, colonialism and genocide. Don’t get me wrong Christians have indeed done some truly horrible stuff using the faith as either a motive or just an excuse. I acknowledge that. But literally every other religion has too. Christianity is in no way special in that regard.
The most common example is the idea that the Crusades were entirely a Christian act of aggression and that no Muslims were eager to kill Christians. There was just as much zealotry there too. And NEITHER of them were particularly accommodating to the Jews, to say the very least.
The other example is most common to atheism and newer religions like neo paganism. Namely, constantly bringing up the atrocities done in the name of Christianity but ignoring their own history. A ton of pagan faiths practiced human sacrifice: the Vikings would have slaves crushed on the slipways by new ships to bless them and sacrifice a woman to accompany dead warriors to the afterlife after she had an orgy with the village elders during the famous Viking funerals, Celtic Pagans did it a ton, including burning people alive in their own homes for a blessing during emergencies (later exaggerated as the Wiker Man ritual by other sources), and many other examples. There’s even examples of Pagan imperialism! Namely the Romans in Israel and The Vikings AGAINST Christians in the British Isles. Now, am I saying that Neo Pagan beliefs are inherently evil or wrong because of all this? No. Because those things are no longer a practice they believe in, nor are they essential to their faith in their gods or beliefs. I expect the same courtesy for my own faith.
I also hear people say that they have a right to hate Christianity because it was brought by imperialism and a lot of people were forced into it. I won’t deny this, but a) this is not an intrinsic part of Christianity that most Christians condone. Most very much recognize the atrocities committed as wrong. And b) regardless of the unethical enforcement of the faith, may modern Christians from post colonial nations still very much believe in their faith and are not worshiping out of fear. They are entitled to this belief. No, they are not entitled to bigotry, but neither are you, regardless of where it came from, be it history, religion, or bad personal experiences.
Yes, Christianity has a history of bigotry (such as homophobia and sexism) but it did not INVENT bigotry nor is said bigotry an intrinsic aspect of the faith. It’s entirely possible to be Christian and not be homophobic. In fact, it’s common. Most people in the U.S. are Christians, gay marriage and even more so equal rights for women have a sizable majority supporting them. There simply has to be a large amount of overlap. It’s not fair or ethical to lump all Christians together in one group with the bigots.
No, having personal trauma involving a religion doesn’t give you an excuse to hate it. You don’t have to JOIN it, but hating it is not justified. I’m not trying to erase the trauma that for example, lgbt people have suffered at the hands of fundamentalism. I acknowledge how awful it can get. No trauma can justify bigotry though. Prejudice is intrinsicly evil. And all of these “coping mechanisms” like saying you worship Satan to spite Christianity or want to kill God (which is basically like saying you want to stab someone’s grandfather given God’s role in Christianity and how he’s viewed) or any of that shit is simply no more ok than if someone did it to any other group.
And don’t give me any shit about how Christianity is in a position of power and doesn’t suffer as much from bigotry. You know what your religion being popular means when you’re alone and some fucker on Tumblr is talking about how dumb your religion is? Jack shit. The power a social group may possess doesn’t provide a shield against all negative comments and if individual worshippers are hurt by your comments, they are entitled to their anger and sadness and you are the asshole here. Being a victim of bigotry yourself is no excuse to be a bigoted piece of shit. It may EXPLAIN it, but explanation and justification are not synonymous.
All of this applies to other religions too. Islam, for example is similar to Christianity in this regard (with Christianity being a common target of persecution in Muslim majority countries even, so Christianity isn’t always in a position of power). Islam has indeed been used to justify many horrible acts and horrible atrocities have been committed in its name, but none of that excuses bigotry and hatred in turn. Nothing justifies bigotry. No Muslim deserves to have their faith mocked for the actions of a few members and when you mock a faith, you inherently mock the believers. All of them. This is true for all faiths. If there is even a single good person who practices a faith, that faith can’t be considered immoral.

Responding to negative criticism (A better way)
http://alexlayer.tumblr.com/post/156713684692/httpsb-listbadboytumblrcompost156712441719m
[I wanna start this off by saying that I personally apologize to @dashingicecream. Even though I hate the way she handled a very simple situation, that does not excuse me for going about responding to it like I did. In my eyes, she is still wrong for what she did and I personally would like for her to apologize to @botmj. But I’m just as bad for acting like a bit of a dick in my “Message to Dash” post. And for that, I regret my ignorant tone.
I hope she can forgive me for being overly aggressive. And if she does decide to block and ignore me, then I completely understand and respect her decision.]
However, I’m gonna have to disagree with you @alexlayer. And that’s not to say that you don’t bring up some good points, cause you do. But, I still have to disagree with you.
Why don’t we go through what you responded, piece by piece, to see exactly what I do and don’t agree with you on.
1. “What do you think she meant when she spoke about people thinking themselves “super edgy and unique” when shipping Straight Ships? There are actual shippers out there that think they can capitalize in the underdog reputation that the LGBT community has earned. You know, the admirable endurance to subsist over the years under discrimination, unrecognized rights and marginalization just because of their sexuality, sexual identity, lack thereof of either or both, or any combination of those. Those are real trials that these people have endured, and now some shippers act like they’re just the same because they’re the “underdog” in shipping straight ships in fandoms where LGBT ships are predominant, and act like they’re edgy or rebelliously defiant because of it.”
Right off the bat, there seems to be some confusion. Lets clear this up. I don’t have a problem with her saying that people are stupid for thinking they’re edgy and cool just by shipping straight couples in a, quote, “LGBT Predominate” series. Even though that probably might not the case for some who do ship straight ships.
I have a problem with her labeling all straight people in an ignorant way, and then immediately dismissing any criticism for it. I’d probably never would have said anything if she had responded to @sjelenkain and @botmj comments in a well mannered way. But, she didn’t. She instead makes a big deal out of it just to hype herself up by posting these really unnecessary follow ups. Saying things like, “If you don’t like it! then block me! You wont be missed! I never claimed myself to be perfect!” Only after she immediately blocked @sjelenkain for commenting. Not even letting him have the choice to unfollow and block her. Sorry to say, but that kinda attitude honestly seems pretty childish to me.
Dash didn’t have to agree with what they said at all. And she fully has the right to block whoever she wants. But she can’t then complain about getting criticism after posting something divisive to a specific group of people. And afterwards be extremely rude to an ask that was only trying to find a middle ground between the two. That’s not how you should go about people giving you their opinion. No matter how much you don’t agree. Cause meeting negative actions with negative re-actions is never gonna get anyone anywhere close to finding a proper solution. (Something that I wish our current US president would realize.)
And again, I’m just as much of a hypocrite for doing the exact same thing. But, look at what I’m doing right now. I’m admitting my faults and taking full responsibility for my words. If I, a smaller sized blog, am willing to accept my actions and apologize for it, why can’t she?
Regardless, let’s move on.
2. And if that sounds ridiculous, it’s because IT FUCKING IS and Dash was just COMMENTING on it. Offhandedly and sarcastically, maybe, but she didn’t even through any insults or any of the sort. But of course, some entitled fucktoy went and got offended, as if a comment like that was the same as the government denying you the rights to love your loved ones, or wanting to pass a law that makes it legal for you to get electrocuted in order to “correct” your sexuality, and so one threw the first stone, and since the first one had been thrown, others followed suit, with you – @b-listbadboy – now throwing the biggest one because hey, now it’s cool to pick on her, huh?
You’re not necessarily wrong here. I did come off as a bit of a hateful “fucktoy” in my message and I, again, apologize for that. I let what was happening to me in my personal life influence how I think and write when seeing what Dash was doing. For that I am completely at fault. Even with the personal b/s that was going on with me IRL, its still no excuse for me to take it out on someone else entirely.
However lets talk about this whole “The Straights” thing that Dash said.
I know it was meant as a off handed sarcastic joke. But Just because Dash meant it to be a joke and wasn’t necessarily bashing anyone, doesn’t mean its OK to just ignore it and love her unconditionally. Saying that label, In my personal opinion, is a perfect way to accidentally cause a rift in your followers. Those who are “The Straights”, and those who aren’t. It gives off the impression that people who are straight or ship straight aren’t welcomed to her blog.
And I know she most likely didn’t intend for that, because she herself ships straight couples in a “LGBT Predominate” series. It was Sunflowyr (Yang x Ren) before, now its Strawberry Banana (Sun x Ruby).
You can joke about literally anything, as long as you make it clear that its all meant to be a joke and its only purpose was for fun. That’s what I believe Dash failed to do. If she did, there would literally be no need to overreact on @sjelenkain critique. Speaking of which…
3. And for the record, calling a person childish is NOT “genuine criticism”, and none of that people made Dash who she is today. She’s who she is thanks to her inspired art and her relentless will to draw what she likes, not because of someone adding +1 to her followers or count of likes. And she’s all the more amazing for enduring and sticking to her guns when even fellow LGBT shippers want her to stop drawing her OTP and instead switching to the more popular ships like White Rose and Bumblebee. Fuck it all, she’s already got more than enough shit to deal by herself like to have now people trying to act like she’s this toxic influence in the fandom. All of you are nothing but entitled bullies that need to shut their mouths and pick something better to do with their time to pick on the first person they come across to pick at and act like you’re delivering righteous justice, when all you’re doing is being a bunch of entitled assholes.
Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree….and agree as well? Let me explain.
His comment, while not being the best crafted or even the exact words I would’ve chosen, is legitimate criticism. Negative criticism, but still criticism none the less. I understand how she felt hurt by his comments, and I’m not blaming her for feeling that way. What I am blaming her for is claiming that he needs to unfollow her when she blocked him and took away his choice to even consider doing so. That, I believe is very hypocritical of her. But, I do get why and its not completely her fault.
And as for her sticking to her guns by not giving in to the hordes of demands by White Rose and Bumblebee shippers….yeah you’re absolutely right. Dash is commendable for enduring that kind of overbearing bullcrap that I often do see in the FNDM. I should know, shipping a rarepair like Knightshade (Jaune x Blake) can come with some backlash.
Something else I kinda agree and also don’t agree with you on is that the followers “made” Dash. Now, admittedly, I really could’ve used a better way of phrasing it. So instead of saying that the followers “made” her, lets say they “brought her up”.
I am almost 100% positive that Dash wouldn’t be doing what she does if no one supported or followed her. Especially if she is getting the amount of hate that you and Dash are both claiming. And, y’know what? Being encouraged by the reward of getting more followers isn’t necessarily a demonizing thing! Its almost completely natural on social media and its not something to fault her or really anyone on. I most certainly get excited to see people follow me and don’t see any shame in saying so. And looking back at dash before she was really any level of big that she is now, you can clearly she that not only her art but also her personality and influence has changed.
So, yes, I do think the followers brought her up as who she is now. Its most certainly not the only thing, but it is a big chunk. And again, its nothing to be ashamed about! However, its something that needs to be taken in consideration when posting anything on a public place like tumblr. A lot of people, like you @alexlayer (and believe it or not, myself included.), really look up to her and hold her to a high standard. So when she post something rude and divisive about a specific group of people, if that group of people have been following and supporting her since the begging and see that, they’ll definitely feel betrayed and offended. And they will for sure express that to her.
Final thing I wanna say before ending this post is that like you and I, @dashingicecream is human. And humans make mistakes all the time. But what makes those mistakes OK to make, is when we can see where we were wrong, and apologize for it. I’m not asking for her to change anything about herself at all. And once again, I do apologize for making my original post seem that way. But, I would love for her to at least apologize to @botmj, if anyone at all. I hope you understand where I’m coming from now that I’ve cleared it up better for you all reading this. And even though typing all of this for two days has been exhausting as FUCK, I believe it was worth it.
Thank you for taking your time to listen to what I have to say, and I hope something like this never gets blown out of improper proportions ever again.
@dashingicecream
