Dopo il terremoto del 1968, le persone abitarono a lungo nelle baraccopoli. L’artista durante l’adolescenza assiste ad una profonda trasformazione dei luoghi amati nell’infanzia, che ha avuto un profondo impatto sulla sua sensibilità e identità. L’artista ha sperimentato un sentimento di perdita tale da far maturare una sorta di ossessione per la memoria, affascinata da archivi immaginari, dal confine tra memoria personale e memoria collettiva.

After the earthquake in 1968, for a long time people lived in temporary accommodation. Growing up as she did during this time of urban redesign, she witnessed the scenery change dramatically, which impacted on her sensitivity and identity. The artist experienced the sentiment of loss and developed a kind of obsession with memory, she is fascinated by archives of imagery, by the border between personal memory and collective memory.

Kolga Tbilisi Photo The Embrace of Photography

Each year in May, the Georgian capital Tbilisi hosts a week-long festival of photography that, over the past twenty-three years, has grown to become one of the largest and best-known cultural events in the wider region. Its name, Kolga Tbilisi Photo, reflects the openness and inclusivity of the festival: ‘kolga’ being a Georgian word meaning umbrella. The program embraces many different approaches to photography, from the traditional to the most technologically advanced, in imagery created by local and international artists. Indeed, embrace is a word that well captures both its programming and the essential character. For this is a festival that opens its arms and its heart to all who share a passion for photography and the curiosity to explore the many ideas that images can evoke.

Georgia Ponirakou was born in October 1983. She studied Biology and Photography. She is a visual artist who works with film and is also a poet.

She uses both colour and black and white film, 35mm, medium format and Polaroid cameras. Her approach is diaristic as she documents her everyday life. She combines prints on different papers and printing methods to create zines and handmade artist books.

She has published five photo zines and two handmade zines in two copies each ("The quarantine diary" December 2020, F32.3, February 2021). Her first photobook about Makronissos (10 limited edition copies, 2019, Depression Era) was presented at the main exhibition of Medphoto Festival 2019, while her second book (Snowbed, 290 limited edition copies, Zoetrope Athens), which presents her personal story of depression, was published in Polycopies (November 2023). She has participated in group exhibitions at the Athens Photofestival (New found self 2017, Drowning land- Breathing water 2019) and several other exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Her first solo exhibition "Snowbed" took place in October 2021).

Deframmenta dal contesto, per una successiva, e a volte meticolosa, ricompattazione urbana.

AMICI DI JANGANY AL PHOTO FESTIVAL DI MILANO PRESSO LO SPAZIO MANTEGNA

Nel 27 anno di apertura della scuola Sainte Marie di Jangany (7/10/1989).

La fotografa Carlotta Zoppellari ha presentato la collezione AFRICA DIMENTICATA, corredata da interessantissime didascalie che hanno narrato le immagini via via declinate nelle varie etnie incontrate da Antatanarivo a Tulear (Madagascar sud occidentale).

Renato Gava e Antonio Carrabba hanno raccontato i 30 anni di storia di Jangany e il progetto Jangany ha sete acqua per vivere.

La mostra, che si chiude il 21 ottobre, è inserita nell'ambito di Milano #photofestival 18th e della #GdC di #AMACI Opening.

Presentazione di Jangany allo Spazio Mantegna di Milano grazie alla fotografa Carlotta Zoppellari che vi ha dedicato la sua collezione AFRICA DIMENTICATA.

La mostra, che si chiude il 21 ottobre, è inserita nell'ambito di Milano #photofestival 18th e della #GdC di #AMACI Opening.

Un grazie sincero a Carlotta Zoppellari, peraltro testimonial del For funding Intesa Sanpaolo, e a Laura Di Fazio, curatrice dello Spazio Mantegna.

Presenti circa una trentina di persone alla inaugurazione.

PHOTOFESTIVAL PHEST IN ITALY

From September to November 2023, ’Children of the Labyrinth’ will be exhibited at Fotofestival PhEST in Monopoli, southern Italy. It was a pleasure to attend the opening, and we gave a short lecture too.

Es octubre y el cuerpo lo sabe, queridxs, y llega un año más la esperada cita para lxs amantxs de la fotografía en Barcelona: el @artphotobcnfest . Este año va a ser muy especial para mí, ya que voy a estar representando en el HUB de Glòries a mi también querido @espaicatalaroca . Y lo hago con mi proyecto 'Tovet' debajo del brazo, del que os cuento en catalán un poco en el ‘slide' que acompaña este ‘post’. Igualmente, será un placer que todxs lxs que queráis os acerquéis hasta el @dissenyhub de Barcelona. Allí me encontraréis con este trabajo y el fanzine que le corresponde, cómo no, y dispuesto a explicaros lo que deseéis referente a 'Tovet'. Por cierto, en el fanzine y en el seguimiento de este proyecto me ha echado un cable o tres Ana Benavent, acá @ana_log__ , en sus siempre provechosos acompañamientos. Mil gracias también a mi querida @maribelmatadevivero, al @espaicatalaroca , a @ccgolferichs y a la organización del @artphotobcnfest . Y por último, al laboratorio @vmfotolab , que ha hecho un trabajo de impresión bello e impecable, como siempre! 🙏🏻❤️
