I've been keeping a commonplace book for a few weeks. I don't have pretty handwriting or especially clever thoughts, but I enjoy having this little notebook that functions as an extension of my brain. The inside of the cover is currently a catch-all for paper items, including a note I wrote to myself a few years ago, salman toor and richard osman.

『umurangi generation』 but that's life.
it's so, so-so(cial).
artist notes:
a souvlaki & the greatest mistake of my life-inspired pictures. these are for my spotify playlist covers.
i did not have much to work with for the holding absence picture, so i decided to use the hangar level for it's dark & grimy look. i added a touch of bloom and messed around with the colours until it had a tint of green. the kind of green that'll make you feel a little sick thinking about your regrets.
i originally wanted to use the fish-eye lens for souvlaki (for practice) but it did not look good. at all...so i just went for a simple recreation of souvlaki's album cover and added lots of bloom.
the caption is from the song "stay home" by american football.

Title: "The Struggles of an International Student" (WIP)
For the second media output, I chose to do a photo album with collected quotes and sayings from international students written in my International Student Survey. The photos were originally taken through many different moments of my own experience as an overseas student.

Serenity in our surroundings
Photographer’s Eye
The photos illustrated in this paper are founded on the theme of “Serenity in our Surroundings." Their unifying idea is that moments of tranquility go unnoticed within our typical environments, whether at home, in office buildings, or at the park. As such, the collection of photos captures the moments that, when appreciated, nurture a sense of peace. The pictures demonstrate that nature can foster a sense of calmness despite its existence within the chaotic environment of life. The theme is a significant reminder to set a time to appreciate the little, beautiful moments that bring peace to our otherwise hectic lives.
Collection of Photos
Dew on Morning Grass
Tumblr media
This is a close-up photo of grass in a park, covered in dew, early in the morning. Having taken the photo while going to work, I now see the droplets and the sparkling reflection of the morning sunlight as a refreshing sight, considering the mood of an early morning start of a day
An Alley
Tumblr media
While it appears as an unused alley leading to the old building, the photo also reflects the calm that contrasts the bustle and hustle that characterizes a city. The alley shows that despite our recognition of the fast pace of life, there are elements in our surroundings that can remind us of the stillness and calm we need for progress.
Pond
Tumblr media
The pond illustrated in the photo sits calmly in a park, reflecting the sky and trees surrounding it. The image also communicates the serenity and peace in a busy environment. Looking at the pond, one can find peace of mind by connecting with the undisturbed stillness of the water's surface.
Tree Silhouette in a Sunset
Tumblr media
The trees stand between the rays of the setting sun, creating a beautiful shadow. The rays traverse the branches, creating a lovely pattern. I find the view serene, appealing, and attractive because the colors of the sky beautifully blend with the sun’s rays, fostering a sense of peace.
Hidden Garden
Tumblr media
While the photo can be interpreted as something beautiful hiding beyond life's challenges, the small garden amid buildings contrasts the beautiful flowers and the concrete houses. It communicates serenity by challenging us to look beyond the bad to find the excellent hiding beneath.
Conclusion
The collection, "Serenity in our Surroundings," illustrates the tranquil moments we often overlook despite their existence in our surroundings. The photos capture different manifestations of serenity but generally remind us of the calm within the busiest environments or challenging circumstances. Through mindfulness, we can appreciate these moments and find peace of mind.

『umurangi generation』 sky.
to see the next part of the dream.
artist notes:
the goal for these pictures were to play around with the negative/positive space as much as possible. just taking a simple picture using buildings & poles as the subject.
the first photo & subtitle (+ overall theme) is a reference to parannoul's album "to see the next part of the dream". parannoul (파란노을) also translates to blue sunset.
