Swiggy With Team Singham Again Creates a Guinness World Record for the Largest Vada Pav Delivery in a Single Order
• Swiggy set the record by distributing 11,000 vada pavs to children from Robin Hood Army-supported schools in Mumbai, spearheaded by Singham Again Team Ajay Devgn and Director Rohit Shetty
• The order was delivered using Swiggy's newly launched XL EVs for bulk deliveries
Mumbai, 14th October 2024: Swiggy, India’s pioneering on-demand convenience platform along with the team of the highly anticipated film Singham Again has created a new Guinness World Record for delivering the largest vada pav order in a single delivery. In collaboration with the team of Singham Again, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty, Swiggy delivered 11,000 vada pavs to children from the Robin Hood Army, an NGO that focuses on fighting hunger through surplus food distribution across multiple locations in Mumbai.
Mumbai’s iconic vada pavs from MM Mithaiwala, were delivered using Swiggy’s newly launched Swiggy XL Fleet, designed for handling bulk food deliveries. In true Singham style, Swiggy collaborated with the Singham Again team and delivered 11,000 vada pavs across various Robin Hood Army-supported schools in Mumbai.
The first stop was Airport High School & Junior College in Vile Parle, where Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty and Swiggy Co-founder Phani Kishan received the order, creating a Guinness World Record for the largest number of Vada pavs delivered in a single order. The vada pavs were distributed across RobinHoodArmy-supported schools in Bandra, Juhu, Andheri East (Chandivali and Chakala), Malad, and Borivali.
Phani Kishan, Co-founder and Chief Growth Officer, Swiggy said, “In the 10 years of Swiggy, we have delivered millions of vada pavs across Mumbai, and other cities. We’re going XL by teaming up with Singham Again to set a Guinness World Record for the largest single food order for Vada pavs. This exciting event perfectly captures Swiggy’s commitment to delivering food whether big or small—and celebrates the love for Mumbai’s iconic street food in a truly spectacular Singham style.”
Swiggy XL, a fleet of electric vehicles introduced to efficiently handle high-volume orders, played an instrumental role achieving this Guinness World Record. This first of its kind initiative demonstrated Swiggy’s focus on leveraging technology and innovation to address evolving delivery needs while making a significant contribution to the community.
Speaking about the record, Rohit Shetty expressed, “We are elated to have collaborated with Swiggy for this record-breaking delivery of vada pav, bringing food and joy to children. Just like Singham’s larger-than-life personality and strong ethics, this initiative has achieved a meaningful cause.”
The event concluded with children enjoying their meals, marking the success of this collaboration between Swiggy and the Singham Again team. The record-breaking delivery was made possible by Swiggy’s newly launched XL fleet designed for large scale orders. Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) is the vehicle manufacturer with Moeving Urban Technologies Ltd. operating the fleet on the ground.
The idea was conceptualized and executed by Havas Play. Mohit Joshi, CEO, Havas Media Network India, said, “We’re always driven by the ambition to create meaningful connections through meaningful media that reflect cultural shifts. With Swiggy, we’ve once again tapped into the pulse of pop culture, delivering a campaign that’s bold, innovative, and community focused. Securing the coveted Guinness World Records title for the largest vada pav delivery exemplifies not only the disruptive potential of Swiggy XL but also our strategic vision in crafting high-impact, culturally resonant campaigns that redefine the industry. ”

Swiggy eyes category larger than food delivery; to change Supr's structure
Food delivery firm Swiggy (Bundl Technologies) said it has decided to change its daily grocery delivery service Supr Daily’s organisational structure to a Business Unit (BU) within Bundl. This will help Supr deal with with the unfair advantages that Swiggy has access to and accelerate its journey.
Over the last 15 months, Swiggy CEO Sriharsha Majety said it has made some exciting progress on its food delivery business. “We’re now comfortably surpassing our pre-covid peak, while also being on the path to overall profitability,” said Majety in a blog post.
While food delivery continues to be the firm’s flagship category, Swiggy also made some great progress in realising its larger vision of elevating the quality of life by delivering unparalleled convenience.
“We’ve done this on the back of strong traction in the grocery delivery business,” said Majety. “This business is 10x the size of the food services industry; I strongly believe that with the right investments and focus, we have the potential to build a category that is larger than our food delivery business.”
Swiggy’s foray into grocery delivery started with the acquisition of Supr Daily in 2018. Over the last three years, the business has grown by leaps and bounds. Supr Daily currently serves about 500,000 customers on a monthly basis and delivers around 200,000 daily orders across six cities. “The category has immense potential and we’ve been thinking through the several structures that best set it up for success in the long term,” said Majety.
With the organisational change, the support functions of human resources, administration, legal, IT and finance from Supr will be integrated into the relevant functions with Swiggy. It would immediately start tapping into the resources and structures available at Swiggy. The company acquired Supr Daily in 2018. Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan will take over the reins as the CEO of Supr Daily.
“Supr Daily will continue to have dedicated business teams to ensure the necessary focus and nimbleness to achieve their goals,” said Majety. "Moments of change are moments of contemplation and after much reflection, the founding team of Supr Daily comprising Puneet (Kumar), Shreyas (Nagdawane) and Rohit (Jain) have decided to pursue new interests outside of Swiggy. I thank them for their contributions in helping Supr scale to where it is today and for building an amazing team,” he said.

Covidmaps lets you find grocery stores and pharmacies in India
More than half a dozen volunteers have banded together in India to launch a crowdsourced tool to help people in the nation identify and locate nearby grocery stores, pharmacies, and cash machines as New Delhi extends the nationwide lockdown to May 3.
The service, called Covidmaps, allows people to locate operational grocery stores, pharmacies, cash machines in their vicinity and find up-to-date details such as when the store opens and closes, the items it has in stock, and whether the store uses a queuing system.
Covidmaps relies on people to add new stores, explained Phani Kishan, one of the founding members, in an interview with TechCrunch. Users are also tasked with updating details about different stores.
India ordered a 21-day nationwide lockdown last month that has restricted people’s movement and shut most stores in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus. On Tuesday, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the lockdown to May 3.
Kishan said seven people are today collaborating on Covidmaps, all of whom are working on it as a side project. At his day job, he works at Swiggy, India’s largest food delivery startup.
The service has already amassed more than 50,000 visitors, including some from outside of India. Covidmaps is currently seeing most traction in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Vancouver.
“People in Delhi and other places are also beginning to participate. But it takes some time before there are enough stores listed in a vicinity before the service gets popular there,” said Kishan, who added that he was hopeful people outside India would find this service useful, too.
Kishan said that some services in India such as startup Dunzo has also started to use Covidmaps as their delivery personnel try to find stores in different localities to serve customers.
On Monday, Google unveiled Nearby Spot on Maps that allows users to find some stores in their vicinity. The company sources this information when a person uses Google Pay to complete a transaction at a store. Kishan said Google had provided free credit to Covidmaps so that it can use Maps Platform.

Amitesh Jha Named CEO of Swiggy Instamart, Founder Phani Kishan Becomes Chief of Staff
As Swiggy gears up for its public market debut, significant leadership changes have been announced. The company has appointed Amitesh Jha, formerly a senior vice president at Flipkart, as the new CEO of its quick-commerce segment, Instamart. Jha, who had a 14-year tenure at Flipkart, held roles across various teams including Ekart and Shopsy. His appointment was confirmed by Swiggy in a news release on Thursday.
Phani Kishan Addepalli, who previously led Instamart, will now head Swiggy’s central growth team, overseeing initiatives such as the subscription service Swiggy One. In addition, Addepalli will serve as Chief of Staff to co-founder and group CEO Sriharsha Majety. Majety praised Addepalli for significantly improving Instamart’s consumer experience and profitability during his tenure.
The email from Majety also revealed that Swiggy’s Chief Growth and Marketing Officer, Ashwath Swaminathan, has departed the company. Swaminathan, who joined in February from Hindustan Unilever, managed the brands and consumer insights team, which will now report directly to Majety.
Jha’s appointment comes amid a broader executive reshuffle as Swiggy prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO). Recent additions to the team include former Amazon executive Sairam Krishnamurthy as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Instamart, and Himavant Srikrishna Kurnala, formerly of Reliance Retail, as Head of Product for Instamart.
The reshuffle follows other notable departures: former CTO Dale Vaz left to start a trading platform, Aaritya Tech, while former Senior Vice President Karthik Gurumurthy, who built and led Instamart, left at the end of last year to start his own venture. Anuj Rathi, the former Head of Revenue and Growth, also left in September to lead Flipkart’s travel booking unit, Cleartrip.
Swiggy is preparing for an IPO later this year and has confidentially submitted draft documents to the market's regulator for a ₹10,414 crore ($1.25 billion) offering, aiming for a valuation of approximately $15 billion. The company was last valued at $10.7 billion in early 2022. Recent reports indicate that 360 One WAM valued Swiggy at $11.5 billion as of June, and notable investors such as the family office of actor Amitabh Bachchan and Raamdeo Agrawal of Motilal Oswal Financial Services have acquired stakes in the company.
