time to talk about a recent revelation:

like, i should have asked this question before, shouldn’t i. they’ve been a big part of tpp for almost as long as i’ve been into tpp, but i never really thought about, like, what they were

where they came from, why they exist, why they’re Like That

i think i just unconsciously assumed they were errors in the construction of reality or something, and never paid them much heed

but then haji said a thing, and i started connecting dots

some metaphysical background. every universe has its own rules, yeah? works in slightly different ways, has slightly different game mechanics physical laws

glitchiness - the effect the glitches have on the world, as distinct from the glitchstuff itself - is what happens when you try to run software from universe a on universe b’s system, and that might not even be a metaphor

things just… don’t work quite the same way, and the glitchy entity/effect is constantly bashing into the universe, trying to work through its rules and just failing. it can be as minor as a weirdly-coloured object, but if the contrast is bad enough, you get missingno

so like, whenever someone goes out wandering the multiverse and visits a reality other than their own… they’re a little glitchy. odd numbers of fingers, wrongly-pitched voices, things like that

but it’s never, like, too bad, at least around the pokemultiverse where realities tend to run on pretty similar lines. and it usually wears off, too, as the universe and its visitor get used to each other

or if you’re bullshit omnipotent like the voices you could just whack the universe until it works the way you want it to, but they’re an exception to literally everything

so long as you’re coming from a world of your own, you can usually reach an accord

s o l o n g a s y o u ‘ r e c o m i n g f r o m a w o r l d o f y o u r o w n

because, see, here’s the thing about the void between the universes. it devours

it eats away at everything that passes through it - it eats away at the voices, that’s how overpowering it is. spend enough time in the void, and you’ll gradually slip away

all the rules that used to define you just… disappear. it gets harder and harder to fit into - any reality, there’s so much less of you than the world expects

sometimes you can claw your way up the table of pokenuclides into an acceptable self again, but more often than not you get swept away by the tides of dex number radioactivity

it’s fairly easy to ward off void decay if you spend enough time in - any world, but your homeworld is best. you were made according to the rules of your native reality, and you’ll always fit into those best

but what if your world

doesn’t exist anymore?

the glitches are shadows of dead realities

seeping into others, they try desperately to take form, but more often than not, they just bring the void in with them

put too many glitches in a reality and it’ll break from the strain. another world will fall into nothingness, and whatever survivors will start to lose themselves too

all they can do is try to latch onto another world - and it’ll all happen again

different clusters of glitches have different sources. the initial bout of glitches in the tppverse - associated with OLDEN, made the glitchhaze - are the last remnants of wing and thorax’s world

the reality might still exist, but - like, even the atmosphere’s chemistry is totally different. they try to push in, to bring the world back to what they knew - and the oxygenated blue-skied world will not let them, fuck yeah the wing-and-thorax stuff is now relevant to tpp

(as to how they came back into quote-unquote existence… look. amber would never accept a world where the fossil gods were trapped in the pc forever)

(they let a few things slip to cyrus in s1!platinum and are thus personally responsible for 90% of their own problems all the way up to omega ruby)

but the current crop of glitches… they’re not from that collective

the last few seasons, my lore has been full of universes blowing up and being rebooted, culminating in the big multiversal reset in pla

the new multiverse is a much less… troubled place, on the surface, so far. but despite the best efforts of the hosts…

there are still traces

i think i went, like, ‘actually that connection does make sense’ and then ‘hey wait what if all the glitches are remnants of wing and thorax’s world’ and then ‘that would explain so much of why OLDEN is like that’ and then i kept going from there

evan mourns for the happiness he lost, the god bits of OLDEN mourn for the world they destroyed

… did i ever say that OLDEN is a fusion between evan, the bits of wing and thorax that didn’t end up in amber, and a whole lot of glitchstuff that might well be the same thing actually? well, IT is

coupla endnotes!

- ultra space isn’t the void between universes. it’s… more like a corridor? a path between worlds, not void itself, which is why necrozma could use it to build an interdimensional empire

- the distortion world, on the other hand…

- phancero is… one of those glitches that decayed into a real pokemon, with a little help from the voices. the last remnant of the glitchhaze, finally made real

There were a few giggles at the Slowbro since they had left that subject a few subjects back. Still, Rhianna decided to indulge Rocket with an answer. "I actually don't know. Maybe? They seem to be related, but the Fae we dealt with were like a human catch-all term for anything they couldn't explain. Letter shaped creatures and stretches of number carvings you couldn't walk past, people getting trapped by sentient buildings, and that's not even getting into things like the walking skeletons. A lot of stuff was brushed off as hallucinations brought on by "Fae Magic" but I don't know much of anything about this "other world" business to know if any of this stuff happened in his world."

Gen I glitches are.... Fun

Somewhat related, I like to imagine Phancero came to Kay with intent (we faced it twice iirc?) that if he was brave and strong enough to master it, he's retained his powers over the Void to safely go wherever. He's the latest Glitch King because there must always be a Glitch King

Phancero itself is only a fraction of Olden's real power, but much like the Fossils often serves as a good consistent vessel

(because the gods aren't actually the Fossils we know, it's just how they most often appear)

so this goes from just manic grief to manic grief coupled with an underlaying self-preservation instinct 🤔

this probably explains the "shadow boys" we saw in Star

Its animated sprite glitches out between the bird form and its glitchbox form. Can’t quite express how awesome it looks unless you see it yourself.

Its stats are mostly true to Missingno., which has terrible defense and really really high attack. Of course, the real Missingno. has much crappier stats (and its speed is actually really bad too. but happy for the buff here. the real Missingno. is very hard to use in battle).

Kinda wished they kept the crazy height/weight of the original Missingno., haha, but I guess a 3507.2-pound bird is hard to imagine flying. XD

I can’t quite tell you how happy this makes me. Y’all know how obsessed I am with glitch pokemon and with pokemon urban legend. And how much I love bird pokemon in general. (bugs & birds are my favorites <3) This is by far the coolest thing in Prism I’ve seen so far, and I have seen a LOT of cool things.

It’s also extra special to me because I have seen this design for Missingno. years ago. I’m assuming the Prism team contacted that artist and asked to use the design. I always really loved the design. It’s elegant and awesome looking.

And its moveset! GUYS! It made me so happy! It does have Sky Attack and Water Gun! They also gave it Shadow Ball which is perfect and then Wrap for some reason. Not sure the logic behind Wrap, I’m curious. (maybe because its Yellow form knows Bind?)

And because this little fellah was in Glitch City, I’m even allowed to add him to my Nuzlocke team.

Ok, that’ll be enough ranting for now about Phancero. I think. :P

more thoughts on napoleon and sinnoh -

[a good old-fashioned mitzi headcanon-that-turned-into-a-fic-halfway-through below the cut]

ot!sinnoh is where skull and armour were unsealed. it got wrecked. totalled. there is no more sinnoh. the only beings that could possibly stop them were uninterested and/or otherwise occupied. by the time girl A opened that crate of pomeg berries, sinnoh was basically a smouldering crater

then! one day the desolation is suddenly a lot less desolate. there are a few days of confusion before people collectively remember that sinnoh has never been destroyed, and the silence goes back to investigating bill’s mysterious disappearance. (blue's instincts are convinced there’s something wrong, but blue’s scientific training insists he focus on things he can quantify)

one day, in one of lumiose’s many markets, napoleon comes across someone selling old gateaux, a ‘speciality of the far-flung sinnoh region!’ napoleon takes a free sample, is surprised to discover it’s not fake. ‘i’ll take two crates.’ 

they have a chat while the seller lugs boxes around. ‘these can’t be easy to come by.’ ‘how do you mean?’ ‘... because sinnoh’s been destroyed?’ ‘wait, has it?’

he breathes, tries to tamp down on his anger. then he explains, carefully, what girl A told him about the devastation. team rocket managed to get a few of their agents out, and some of them knew norman

the trader, as well as half the market, are staring at him. sinnoh is a whole world away from kalos; that’s one of the reasons napoleon came here to start his new life. then someone says, ‘cool story, bro’

napoleon whirls on the speaker, clenches his fists. the guy starts backing away. ‘i mean it bro, that was a really neat story! good- lots of details’

‘i’m from sinnoh!’ he was better at controlling his emotions before the voices came, wasn’t he? before them, he’d have walked away and complained at pearl, but now he’s about to start a fight in a crowded marketplace. this guy deserves it. ‘everyone i knew died!’ not technically true, but close. he didn’t see his mother dissolve as the glitches ate her, but he’s had so many nightmares about it

someone throws a rock at him. he sweeps around, ready to punch them, but then he notices - one. that wasn’t a rock, that was a gateau. two. there’s a photo tied to it

he almost ignores it, but then he sees the windmills

‘we went there two years ago!’ shouts the merchant. ‘that’s where i got these gateaux!’

‘why didn’t you tell me?’ he asks steve, later, after getting away from the police. steve tells marc, and marc speaks to alice. she replies, marc boosts her message across the ocean (legendaries) and steve’s low tolling mental voice echoes in napoleon’s head. he already knows what she’ll say

‘we couldn’t find you, and you said you didn’t want to talk to us’

he doesn’t fully believe it until the boat docks in canalave. alice didn’t know if this was his sinnoh, and he can’t work up the courage to go to twinleaf town and check

so he goes to veilstone city, where pearl finds him

Charcherry Weekly - Issue 99

Hello everyone, Mage of Light Nick Card here. All of a sudden its a lot warmer lately. Let's see what's going on this week.

A couple days ago, the Summer Solstice occurred, marking the longest day of the year in a variety of places, including the greater charcherry area (which really needs a better name). To celebrate the occasion, Unity Mayor Brae Emit sent everyone in the group some looseleaf herbal tea. It was appreciated all around. Your dear newsletter writer tried it out and enjoyed a nice hot cup of tea with that gift.

Sunburst, my darling larvesta, has been enjoying the sun as of late, being quite content with sunbathing in the front yard lately. Sometimes Slope, my beloved slowpoke, joins in and its adorable to see them lounging right next to eachother... until Slope tries to roll over. Fortunately Sunburst is pretty quick to get out of the way. Pory the porygon prefers to stay inside, its not one much for the outdoors most of the time. On playdates with Blaze's Phancero though, Pory will follow that bird anywhere.

Meanwhile, I've been working on plotting out some particularly complex details of a particularly important retcon route that may take effect after its witnessed in-comic. Of course, this may make some of my previous reporting efforts somewhat inaccurate or outdated, depending on if the retcon's effects carry across the vanilla timeline internet or not. Regardless of what may happen as a result, things are being planned on that front.

okay, so, we did the ss anne rival fight before the rocket-hijack-boat-sinks bit, so as the run was happening we assumed azure was also on the anne when it sunk

we spent… basically all of johto searching for her. some people thought she’d died

except she didn’t. she shows up at the e4, triumphant return, everyone is hype. probably she just got off the boat before the rockets got on, she’s smart like that

but evan… he was definitely on the boat when it sank

he definitely spent… some time at sea, before he washed up in cherrygrove

but we just cut from the sinking to the washing

and then, a fair ways into johto, deku edited the rom while drunk and a random trainer totally glitched out

To add to Bugsy and the Cult of Olden, for some reason in Brown (the following run) Azalea Town was the only Johto town you could reach after an apparent eruption blocked all the roads to explore further?? So Paul took a VERY long bike ride to deliver the gym a pizza if memory serves me right. No real reason to either, but it was in the post game so part of our quest for "The Mystery Bird~" the Tickets were after? I'm not so familiar with Brown if anyone wants to jump in

been playing through brown, in vanilla at least you just get the fighting dojo pokemon choice

(brown is. really really obviously kanto cut apart and stitched back together in a different order. all the same events, just in different spots)

Yup. The Mystery Bird. After Evan got access to the Tomb of the Voices on Mt Silver, he found the bird sprite at the back of the ruins. It flew off. At the end of Brown, he rescued the bird but it still flew off. We then got some heavy hunting this was all a build up to the release of Prism which we were getting to play opening day

Hey guys! long time no see. I'm here to bring you an update. Well, one last update that is, cause now I have to speak real level with all you cool followers who stuck with me over the years. ( I know it sounds cheesy and lame, but I couldn't appreciate you guys more than now in this period of my works, and what I do) After 2016's Phancero Era runs, I've been doing some heavy thinking. where should I go with my updates? What do people really want to see from this blog? Are there people who still follow the blog & the twitch Plays pokemon tags? Do I have enough time to keep sitting through each run updating you guys, compared to 2014 - 2015? (my best years on TPP) Most important, do I still have the passion to keep doing what I'm doing here?

So it might sound saddening when I say this, but I think we already knew this was coming for a long time now, to really not be surprised. It's time for the old TPP blog to close shop here. Truth is, my passion for twitchplayspokemon left a long time go, and while I visit the stream here and there, joke around with the friends I've met in the community discord, and post TPP works & lurk reddit on somewhat daily bases, everything related to twitchplayspokemon & Ask-TwitchPKMN been very underground for me. Also no this is not a leaving TPP post. I’m just closing this o’l gal of a blog down. Just keep reading for more details.~

To put it in explanation: It finally hit me that runs hasn't been the same ever since Prism ended. I hope that magic still been around for you guys in the newer runs though! For me I don't really feel it anymore. Now days I tune into a run for like the first 2 or 3 days, and then I tune out and come back if anything catch my eye happens. That or something comes up that makes me miss a chunk of it, and I lose interest. Then while PBR betting always seem to get better and better over time, it's just not doing it for me anymore. I just make my visits, bet, and go. Nothing else really to add to that. My creative drives (art, lore, etc.) have gone to other places. So not only I make time to update a run, I don't really post my TPP works here anymore. As you can see though, Ask-TwitchPKMN still up, and even that I struggle to get new comics out. Having updates to every week, to every month.  That's not even mentioning how life stuff either made me lazy, or too busy to do anything to keep updated here. So in the end, I'm just gonna leave it as that, and best safe to say it's time for this blog to finally have a peaceful rest.

I thank you guys really on all the adventures I got to share with you. all the wacky post, rage quits, sweet chin music to my hopes & dreams, random starmies, and sharing my passion to those who followed this era of my life in this blog. Only reason I didn't make this sooner was cause I thought I still had it in me to keep going. I did say "This is the year of the minun", but I was more inactive than I was in 2016. You only fail if you quit, and well maybe I am, but I think it's the right choice for this place to move on. I wanna make something clear though. This is NOT a "i'm leaving TwitchPlaysPokemon" post. I'm not going anywhere. I'm still around being a goofball furry in the discord.  I'm still lurking and posting new comics of Ask-TwitchPKMN over at TPPKappa subreddit. I still post new pictures here and there when a run happens to help with lore and cool art. I just feel announcing this is the best way to go, and not look back, and if I do manage to come back here, it's gonna be for a special run. No not Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, or a future run that involves gen 8 on the switch. I'm talking about some kind of super special anniversary run, or a run that's declared the final run of TwitchPlaysPokemon. So that leaves me with this final segment:

Well since my original Tumblr is dead in the water too (seriously i never update it), you can see what I'm doing here in my deviantart. I update like a slug there, but at least you get to see way more often  journals what I've been up to, hows life, some silly comics & pictures, and any updates to newer comics like Ask-TwitchPKMN/Solareon Wars.  I'm also still around on the TwitchPlaysPokemon subreddit & community discord to be a goofball with anyone there. Trust me it can get wacky and weird 50% of the time, but the people there been fun and good to me. Hope they will on your end too.

Hmmm anything else? I guess I should talk about the status on ASk-TwitchPKMN too. Simply put: I'm not being consistent on uploads anymore. It's where I want, when I want, which is why it takes forever to upload. It can be weekly, it can be monthly. I always try my best to get one out once per week. This week I got lucky and did 2 uploads! :D  Other then that, I'm going to be focusing on the current Sol Wars stage before adjusting the changes to final act. I've opened a series 2 blog, but trust me, nothing gonna go on there for a long time. I just made this for a fresh new start, and the day I am ready to work on it. I'll be trying to get more busy on my TPPDev team work too, since I've been lacking this entire year. Trust me the projects we're working on might actually get you very excited in the future! So look out for that eventually.

Well with that said, it's time to for me to roll. Hope to see you guys whether if it's chatting, asking in ATP8+, or mostly following my works on deviantart & reddit. a few months after phancero finally leaves sinnoh, a depossessed philippe goes spelunking in the dongstortion world. he gets lost. very lost. six years later, he stumbles out of the spear pillar portal, claiming to have visited a region named auricanty that’s full of all sorts of neat/brain-breaking (the two concepts are synonymous in philippe’s mind) stuff

Charcherry Weekly - Issue 90

Hello everyone, Mage of Light Nick Card here. Spring is in full swing here and I can feel it every time I walk outside my door. But enough of that, its newsletter time.

Surprise in the memo

Early this week, Somebody new showed up to the memo, by the handle of vaingloryExecutioner. She has apparently been in a previous iteration of our memo before, though it was quite a few years ago. Reportedly, she has captured an individual who apparently has done a great deal of misdeeds, though their identity has been hidden, presumably for their safety. It appears that she is still searching for a way to prevent the unfortunate effects of being a magical girl, though there has been minimal results for this over the years. Regardless, its nice to see a returning face on the memo, and I hope her stay is a relatively decent one.

A Mushroomy adventure

The other day, Page of Mind Samm was struck by a mushroom, which caused her to fall into a deep sleep. The following day, my investigative correspondent, Prince of Time Aeons Edgeworth, gathered a party to do some detective work on the land that the mushrooms came from. Aeons's party consisted of Page of Rage Jovin Castle, Rogue of Heart Charles, netnavi Splashwoman.exe, and bird pokemon Phancero. The latter two were apart of the party on behalf of Mage of Life Blaze, who was still being affected by the laughing spores in her home.

After some time exploring the land (official land name still unknown), Charles reportedly detected someone still alive on a distant mountain. However, a living cloud of sorts was also detected, which was enough cause for alarm to drive the party to fly to the player's dwelling spire and hide for an hour. It was here that they encountered a single dragon-prototyped imp , who was spared in return for information.

A scroll that seemed to resemble something from Avatar: The Last Airbender was found in the house, though its significance is currently unconfirmed. It is possible it may have ties to the Fyre nation, due to resembling something specifically from the Fire nation in that series. This mystery has yet to be solved.

Eventually, the party decided to split, Charles and Jovin taking on the living cloud as a tag-team distraction duo, and Aeons with Splashwoman and Phancero going towards the detected location as the search party. Charles and Jovin proceeded to cause chaos which resulted in explosions, fire, and finally flooding via Splash Damage, the infamous water spewing dice. It was later discovered that the living cloud was in-fact a cloud of mosquitoes, and did not have any electrical properties, just a swarm of countless flying bugs. Meanwhile, the search party located an unknown dragonlike individual, cast into a deep sleep by a toppled sleeping mushroom. Aeons assumes this figure is likely the player of this land, though this has yet to be confirmed.

As the water rose from the out-of-control dice, far-future Witch of Time Katyleen Kitten appeared to take care of the resulting mess, and the party regrouped to return back home to Starter Planet. Aeons delivered the found person to Arkham Hospital to recover, and Jovin soon brought Samm to the hospital for the same reasons as well. A day later, Charles and Splashwoman were found in a green tree across the road from Purity crater, and were able to get down from it with minimal issue. Perhaps another day, further answers will be found.
