Episode 92: The Falcon Lake Incident Feat. Elliott Morgan Photodump
Image 01: On May 20, 1967 Stefan Michalak was prospecting for rare metals deep in Whiteshell Provincial Park (Canada) when he was burned by the noxious gasses of parked UFO. He became violently ill- vomiting and blistering. Image 02-03: Stefan’s clothing and tools were taken as evidence. Image 04: Stefan sketched the UFO as he believed it to belong to the USAF. Image 05: A police officer who encountered Stefan thought he was drunk. Image 06: Under the threat of UFOs, RCMP took an official report of the incident following Stefan’s release from the hospital. The RCMP and RCAF tried to find the landing site with Stefan’s tools, but were unable to find either the site or the tools. The authorities urged Stefan to show them the landing site in order to take samples and investigate further. Image 07: Stefan, too sick to leave his bed, drew a detailed map of his prospecting site which led authorities directly to the site. Image 08: The landing site. Stefan chose this particular place to mine for quartz as there is a large quartz vein running through the rock. Here we see the quartz vein and the steep incline where the UFO rested. Image 09: Curiously, authorities noted that the entire landing site was radioactive. Pieces of metal were melted into the rock that suggested a very large blast had occurred there. No other surrounding areas were found to be radioactive. Other agencies became involved in the investigation and metal samples were sent to the United States Air Force. Mysteriously, all of the samples tested by the USAF and the RCMP have “disappeared” aside from this one shard of metal (which is still radioactive so this guy holding it is hard af) Image 10: The land annexed as Whiteshell Provincial Park has been sacred land to the indigenous tribes of the area for thousands of years. Petroforms, or rocks arranged in specific patterns, exist all over the park and are thought to reflect astrological events. Shamans used the area for healing rituals and sacred rites. Additionally, the whole park is rife with rich quartz veins. Quartz is thought to have healing magical properties.

Star-People and Stones: Petroforms and The Reflection of Native American Cosmology, Myth and Stellar Traditions
Herman E. Bender - The Hanwakan Center for Prehistoric Astronomy, Cosmology and Cultural Landscape Studies, Inc.
Native American myths, legends and oral traditions are rich with stories of giant beings existing in ancient times. They all talk of giant Thunderers or Thunder-beings, giant snakes and great Thunderbirds. Even the first humans were said to be giants, some half man, half animal. The Tsistsistas (Cheyenne) have a name for the giant beings that their ancestors encountered during the early migration to the grasslands of the Great Plains. They called them haztova hotoxceo or “two-faced star people”. Other Plains tribes such as the Black Feet, Gros Ventres and Lakota have similar stories.
These old stories may have real world counterparts. Discovered in a prehistoric effigy-mound group (the Kolterman Mounds) in south-eastern Wisconsin (U.S.A.) is a human-like petroform or lithic effigy with a serpentine body and wing-like arms known as the ‘Star-being’. Configured in stone, it is approximately 20 metres in length with a red coloured, bison-shaped headstone aligned to face the summer solstice sunrise. However, it is not a lone or singular occurrence. The ‘Star-being’ is but one of two human-like petroform effigies discovered in south-eastern Wisconsin. There is another of almost the same size called the Starman which also has a red coloured, bison-shaped headstone aligned to face the summer solstice sunrise. Both the Starman and Star-Being lithic complexes are codified by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin as archaeological sites of Archaic age.
Each giant lithic effigy appears to be a reflection of certain constellations and stars. The ‘Star-being’ is a mirror-image of the (western) constellations of Scorpius and Libra (with Sagittarius); the Starman is an almost exact representation of Taurus and the Pleiades. Both giant effigies are estimated to be 3500-6000 years old, embodiments of ancient legends and traditions writ large in stone and connected to ‘The People’ through ceremony and acts of cosmic renewal.

Spur (Soul Shaker), Gordon Ellis-brown
SOUL SHAKER “This is my heart as I travel all over; my spirit, my life and living.” Flathead Indian Chief, Montana While spending time in California, Arizona and New Mexico, Gordon became immersed in the creativity, harmony and spiritual vision of the Native American Indian culture. Conversely, he was exposed to the romance, anarchy and chaotic violence disseminated in 20th century Wild West iconography. Using symbolism from petroglyphs and petroforms as central components to his work, Gordon reveals a pictorial life-force of the Native Indians while challenging preconceptions of the American West. Through paint, photography, montage and mixed media, ’Soul Shaker’ bridges the gap between the past and present, capturing a raw energy within an uncompromising image dynamic with pure colour, graphic intensity and depth. The shapes, compositions and narratives seek to make a connection beneath the surface, creating a visual language that resonates with our individual life cycle and the wider global challenges we face today - projecting themes, visuals and messages from tribes who lived in harmony with the earth and its precious resources.

Key Drivers of the Potassium Formate Market
De-icing of airport runways is necessary for safety purposes. Chemical de-icing is often used on airport runways to expedite the melting of snow. De-icing involves the use of inorganic salts, which have lower melting point than ice. Inorganic salts used in are the form of brine solutions in de-icing applications. They are effective in the short run; however, they have detrimental effects on construction materials.
Potassium formate-based de-icers are more biodegradable than inorganic salts and organic counterparts such as acetate salts and urea. They are effective and environment-friendly. This is anticipated to boost the demand for potassium formate in the aerospace industry during the forecast period.
Newly Discovered and Potential Oil & Gas Reserves Likely to Offer Opportunities
Increase in the demand for oil & gas in developing economies such as China, India, and Brazil is a major factor boosting the rate of drilling activities. A large numbers of petroleum companies are continuously exploring new oil & gas reserves.
The number of new oil & gas discoveries has increased in countries in Africa over the last few years. Large untapped reserves in Africa are garnering the interest of some of the major global exploration and production companies.
These new oil & gas discoveries are likely to eventually require drilling and completion fluids. Therefore, newly discovered and potential oil & gas reserves are estimated to create lucrative opportunities for the potassium formate market during the forecast period.

Rise in Price of Potassium Formate
Potassium formate is primarily produced in the liquid form, and its handling and transportation is difficult. Thus, the prices of liquid potassium formate are higher. This makes it less competitive than its substitutes in various applications, especially as a de-icing agent. In turn, this is expected to restrain the global potassium formate market during the forecast period.
Europe a Prominent Potassium Formate Market
In terms of value, Europe accounted for a prominent share of the global potassium formate market in 2018. This can be ascribed to the strong demand for potassium formate in the oil & gas industry and as a de-icing agent.
North America and Asia Pacific are the other prominent consumers of potassium formate. Potassium formate is increasingly utilized for de-icing in North America. BASF SE operates a formic acid production plant in the U.S. The company sells formic acid to runway de-icing producers for the production of potassium formate in North America.
Rise in oil & gas exploration activities in the region is likely to boost the demand for potassium formate in Asia Pacific during the forecast period.
The Middle East & Africa is anticipated to be a highly attractive region of the potassium formate market during the forecast period. Rise in the usage of potassium formate in fertilizers is expected to drive the market in the Middle East & Africa during the forecast period.

Through performance, film, and photography, Lori Blondeau interrogates the influence of popular media and culture, both contemporary and historical, on definitions of Indigenous identity. A Cree/Saulteaux/Métis artist from Saskatchewan currently based in Saskatoon, Blondeau’s constructed personas portray provocative, tough, and powerful women.
Asiniy Iskwew (2016)—whose Cree words translate to “Rock Woman”— continues the artist’s interest in rocks connected to Indigenous traditions, such as petroforms (large stones or boulders outlining anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, or geometric forms), and rock art (paintings on or carvings into rock surfaces). In this series of photographs, Blondeau celebrates and gives homage to Plains Indigenous rock formations, significant ancient sites created for sacred and rite-of-passage ceremonies, and for recording battles and histories. She draws from oral histories of Mistaseni—a 400-tonne sacred boulder marking an important Indigenous gathering place that the Saskatchewan government dynamited in 1966 to make room for a man-made lake. Capturing performative interventions in the landscape, the images depict the artist standing statuesquely atop glacial boulders, draped in blood-red velvet cloth. Strong and solemn, her figure reflects the resilience of Indigenous cultures.
Situated in Devonian Square, a meeting place with a man-made pond in the centre of Ryerson’s campus, the photographs are seamlessly adhered to the contemporary site’s two-billion-year-old boulders imported from the Canadian Shield. The location resonates with its complex connections to the ancient sites of Blondeau’s research, as the Square serves as a gathering area, but one that is artificially constructed for an urban environment. This divergence points to issues of displacement and environmental preservation, offering a potent reminder of Toronto’s pre-colonial history and the controversial treaties that renounced Indigenous rights to ancestral lands. Here, Blondeau occupies the site—as if summoning its spirits—and proclaims (her) Indigenous history and irrefutable connection to the land.

"A petroform sacred to Indigenous peoples in Manitoba has been destroyed, sparking outrage from a woman who believes her mission is to protect the site. Diane Maytwayashing was leading a tour group with students on Wednesday in Manitoba's Whiteshell Provincial Park to see the Bannock Point petroforms. Petroforms are arrangements of rocks that make up the outline of an animal or other distinctive shape when viewed from a distance. The Bannock Point site is a sacred places used from time to time by First Nations people for ceremonial purposes, according to Manitoba Parks and Protected Spaces. But when Maytwayashing and her group reached the petroforms, they discovered the stones of one — arranged in the shape of a snake — had been rearranged into an inukshuk. "I felt my heart fall to my stomach. It was really horrible," said Maytwayashing who guides visitors to Bannock Point and Tie Creek."
