Look I'm still processing my own feelings around the Siuan Sanche decision and execution but I gotta get this out of my system real quick. Firstly, some of y'all are way too comfortable swatting down, mocking, and condescending to fans (BIPOC fans in particular) who are upset. I'd recommend reigning that shit in. You can disagree and push back without resorting to all of that. Many such examples abound already within this discussion itself. Maybe try to emulate that approach instead of just bulldozing through an emotionally and politically charged discourse for minority fans.
Secondly, try engaging with this backlash with the larger context of the show in mind. Or even just S3. Look at how many characters (with speaking roles) died this season and how many of them were black. Think about the unnecessary death of Child Valda (Eamon Valda) this early in the series. The actor, Abdul Salis, devoured his introduction scene (and every scene since) so goddamn thoroughly that he instantly made the White Cloaks a terrifying presence that has resonated throughout the rest of the show. This brilliance gets rewarded with an anticlimactic quick death, with no buildup, by the hands of characters we haven't had the time to get to know properly, and who didn't even share a single scene with him prior. Right when Perrin, who does have a real established connection with him, is set up to spend a whole lot of time with the White Cloaks. Why not keep him for longer, doing what he does best, so that when the girls kill him down the line we'd have spent enough time building up to their confrontation to make for a proper earned send off worthy of such a towering talent?
And Ryma, played magnificently by Nyokabi Gethaiga, who absolutely electrifies from the get-go and through (2x6) in particular (along with her warder Basan played by Bentley Kalu). Ryma whose scream and anguished face as she is being collared by the Seanchan has haunted us for the last two years. Who left such an impression of her kindness, her strength, her faith in her sisters, her bottomless love for her warder, and with so little on-screen time. Gets one singular scene this season. With no acknowledgment, explanation, or addressing of any part of her role last season. How was she freed? When? Why was she not part of the effort to uncover Black Ajah in the tower when we saw her so deeply pained and shaken even by just the realization that one of her sisters could betray their sisterhood? She was written into such an afterthought background character this season that so many audience members seem to have straight up not even recognized her as the same character from S2, as Ryma, at all.
And Ihvon, originally played by Emmanuel Imani and recast this season to be played by Anthony Kaye, who dies in ep.(1) and, to the show's credit, haunts Alanna and Maksim's storyline so strongly that we feel his presence throughout the season. But we see none of that reflected in the tower. With Stepin (Peter Franzén) in S1, we get such a beautiful display of the warder's brotherhood, cultural ties to each other, and most importantly, how deeply loved Stepin was by his fellow warders. S1 makes us feel the loss of him reverberate through them all so devastatingly. Where is that grief for Ihvon? Where is his community? We spend so much time in the tower immediately in the aftermath of his death, and yet there is no one to mourn or honor him in the absence of Alanna and Maksim? We couldn't have had some of our characters pass by or even just hear about the other warders holding a funeral for him? Or just remembering him in some way?
I could go on for a good while still honestly. And sure, we could make legitimate arguments and have readings that justify these choices individually. But regardless, what this shows in aggregate, is a pattern of clumsiness in handling dark-skinned black characters/actors in particular. While at the same time, playing around with extremely politically, historically, and emotionally charged images of black bodies. Be it Ryma being collared and never addressing it again, Child Valda's whole thing, etc. etc. ... and now Siuan Sanche bruised black and blue, bloody, stripped to her shifts, bodily dragged across the hall, and decapitated. These are incredibly powerful and visceral images.
And no, before someone tries to make this point, I am not saying you can't graphically kill, write off, or deprioritize black characters/actors for perfectly legitimate artistic or practical reasons under any circumstances. I am saying that those choices don't exist in a vacuum. The context of the text at large and the real world are inevitably going to be part of how those decisions are received. It's not enough to have good faith diverse casting. And it is not unreasonable to expect a continued treatment of care and thoughtfulness past the casting stage and into every other facet of their presence and exit from the story.
#look I don't doubt that the creative team behind this show actualy have their hearts and intentions in the right place where treatment of#minority actors and storylines are concerned#sincerely#but that doesn't mean that minority fans don't get to push back and discourse loudly and messily about#where they are potentially succeeding or failing and everything in between without being belittled and insulted by the wider fandom#siuan sanche#child valda#eamon valda#ryma sedai#basan#ihvon#wot on prime#wot show spoilers#3x8#wot s3 spoilers#the wheel of time#wheel of time#wheel of time on prime#thoughts

Court admits electoral documents tendered by LP, Obi

The Presidential Election Petition Court on Thursday admitted in evidence bundles of electoral documents from 6 states of the federation that emanated from the February 25 elections. The documents which consisted of forms EC8A which are polling units results were tendered by the Labour Party and its presidential candidate in the last election, Peter Obi, in aid of their suit challenging the outcome of the election in which Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was declared as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission. During Thursday’s proceeding, the petitioners through their legal team led by Awa Kalu SAN, informed the court that they would present the Certified True Copies of the documents as evidence in respect of 18 states of the federation. However, they were only able to present documents from 6 states before their allotted time was over. The result sheets tendered on Thursday before the exhaustion of their slated hours were from Local Government Areas of the following states: Rivers, Benue, Cross River, Niger, Osun, and Ekiti. Among other forms EC8As that they tendered before the court were the forms from 15 Local Government Areas of Rivers states. The petitioners who initially told the court of their intention to present the bundle of forms for 21 LGAs of Rivers state seemed unable to reconcile the list in their presentation and subsequently tendered 15. However, the respondents in the petition objected to the admissibility of the Certified True Copies of the documents which were presented before the court. They said they would advance reasons behind their objections in their final written addresses. The President, Bola Tinubu, through his team of lawyers led by Wole Olanikpekun SAN, objected to the tendering of documents even as the INEC said it was opposed to the admissibility of the documents. In a similar vein, the APC opposed the documents in evidence. Furthermore, INEC’s team of lawyers led by Kemi Pinheiro, SAN opposed the admissibility of the documents. However, the five-man panel of the PEPC headed by Justice Haruna Tsammani admitted the documents from the 15 LGAs of Rivers states and marked them as Exhibits PB1 to PB15. Among other documents also admitted by the court as evidence were the electoral forms from 23 LGAs in Benue state which were marked as Exhibits PT1-PT23 Read the full article

[Free eBook] Black Star Rising: A Cybernoir Space Adventure by Peter Kalu [Science Fiction Psychological Thriller]
Black Star Rising: A Cybernoir Space Adventure by British author Peter Kalu, an award-winning playwright, is a standalone science fiction thriller novel, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour's Venture imprint.
This was originally published by 1998 by Nia / The X Press which seems to have been a small non-genre publisher specializing in works by black writers, and was reviewed in Interzone magazine.
The story has psychological thriller and noir elements, and is set in a dystopian space-exploring future where black astronauts have been sent to crew a space mission with no explanation, as pawns in a conflict where their lives are considered of little worth and they confront adversity as best they can in an untrustworthy environment controlled by a potentially unreliable on-board Computer.
Offered worldwide, available at Amazon.
Free for a limited time @ Amazon (available worldwide)
Description Boldly going where no black writer has gone before, Peter Kalu has written the UK's (and possibly the world's) first Cybernoir novel.
The time is a distant future. SunOne Command has drafted four black astronauts to crew a remote engineering aft -- zsf-e5 -- on a far-flung tour of duty. The crew do not know why they've been drafted. The on-board Computer might know, but isn't telling. Command offers no explanation and anyway its explanations cannot be trusted.
Black Star Rising tells of the crew's lives together -- the pains and possibilities, conflicts and celebrations. Pawns in the war between Logos and SunOne, subject to the whims of Command Control in a future world where black lives still count for less, the crew battle on. When adversity strikes, the key question is: can they hold together long enough to survive?
Featuring four richly drawn characters in Captain Mandella, Sky, Kaya and Triple, Black Star Rising projects a black future that is at once engaging and challenging. It is minus 100 degrees in the void. Colder when love freezes.

2023 Presidency: Cabals behind southern aspirants contesting APC Presidential ticket – Tanko Yakassai The reason for the inceasing number of Presidential aspirants from the Southern part of Nigeria in the All Progressives Congress, APC, have been disclosed Tanko Yakassai, an elder statesman, who made the allegations stated that some cabals in the Presidency are the brains behind many aspirants coming from the Southern part to for the top position. Yakassai claimed that cabals in the Presidency are encouraging some aspirants from the South to purchase the APC Presidential nomination forms. He said the aim was to break the clamour for APC to zone its presidential ticket to the Southern part of the country. In a statement, the elder statesman said: “We know it that all these presidential aspirants of the APC from the South are being encouraged by some cabals in the Presidency for the purpose of breaking the clamour for a southern presidential candidate from the APC. “The cabals are doing it to break the ranks of the southern part of the country that are clamouring for a power shift.” APC has recorded a large number of its members who have signified interest to run for the Presidency from the Southern part of the country. From the South-East, the likes of Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor; Chris Ngige, Minister for Labour and Employment; Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education; Orji Uzor Kalu, Senate Chief Whip; and Rochas Okorocha, Imo West Senator are running for APC’s ticket. 10th NASS: Ekpa warns southeast senators against playing ethnic card

As the intrigues of the 10th National Assembly Leadership continue to mount, popular Biafra agitator and separatist Simon Ekpa has warned returning and senators-elect against fanning the embers of ethnicity. Ekpa, the Finland-based lawyer and self-styled Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, in a statement on Tuesday, disclosed this. He said, “We want to warn the Southeast Senators led by their spokesperson, Hon. Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, to desist from sowing the seeds and cards of ethnicity in the Eastern Region because we are one people – We are Biafrans. There will be no restiveness if your caucus does not win the Senate presidency because we will never fight for your selfish ambitions. “We want to alert our people of the so-called Southeast Senators Caucus ploy to create a chasmic ethnic disunity in Biafraland in the guise of fighting for the Senate presidency. These dishonourable Senators refuse to support the Biafran craving to exit Nigeria. Also, they said that they wanted the president of One-Nigeria to be of Igbo extraction. However, when the time came for them to put actions to their words, their selfishness and greed robbed them of securing the ticket of any of the two major political parties. “When one of them, Peter Obi, was running around for their support and mobilisation, these same politicians who claim they are one Nigeria refused to support their own. “It is rather unfortunate that while other Nigerians who believe in One-Nigeria like them are pushing for the court to grant justice to Peter Obi, these Senators have already endorsed the rigged the election (“selection”), endorsed the Muslim-Muslim Presidency and endorsed the pronouncement of Bola Tinubu as president-elect, leaving their own out there to fight for himself. “Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu said, “Obi should withdraw his case, challenging Tinubu’s victory from the court so that he (Orji) will become an Igbo Senate president. “I am reliably informed that this same Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, is the brain behind this shameless outing by the Senators of the Southeast Caucus of self-centred and greedy politicians. “If Senator Godswill Akpabio is the favourite of the 10th Assembly of the NASS to become the Senate president, so be it. We are not interested in Nigeria’s politics of who becomes what. However, we shall not let you divide us further for your selfish ambitions inside One-Nigeria. We are Biafrans, committed and determined to exit Nigeria this year. “We declare, given the above, that come May 29th 2023, all these Vagabonds in Power (“VIP”) Senators of Igbo extraction should stop parading themselves as representatives of the people from Biafraland as a vote of no confidence will be passed on to them by Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, and Biafrans will deal with them decisively. They do not represent our people’s interests but are in office for themselves, by themselves, through the ignorant trust of the people”, he stated. In another development, Ekpa has been honoured with the title “Agu N’eche Mba-1” by Biafra monarchs under the Aegis Custodians of Culture and Tradition. “We, the Custodians Of Culture And Tradition (CCT), Biafra Monarchs, crowned you today as “Agu N’eche Mba-1″ of Biafra Land. It is also our congratulatory message on your election as the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In Exile (BRGIE). The above is a message I received from the CCT Biafra Monarchs with a video of the coronation of Ekpa Simon Njoku as (Agu N’eche Mba -1) of Biafra Land. It is, therefore, official my appreciation to CCT and Biafra Monarchs”, he posted on his Twitter handle on Monday. Read the full article

Valentine’s Day special: Nigerian footballers and their partners!
In light of Valentine’s Day, we celebrate the day in a very special way by taking a look at Nigerian footballers and their partners.
More often than we know, our favourite sportspeople get their support system from their significant others and today we appreciate them all in the name of love.
Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene
Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene is one of Nigeria’s most successful women footballers of the current era, winning four AWCON titles as well as being named in the IFFHS CAF Women’s Team of The Decade (2011-2020).
The 28-year-old, who currently features for Eskilstuna United in Sweden, married real estate mogul Ahmed Okeoghene on December 9, 2017.
Last December, she celebrated their four-year union on social media. “Happy anniversary to us. It has been an amazing journey all these years, distance and all, you’ve been so supportive. I love you baby, thanks for being my strength,” she posted on her Instagram page with pictures of the couple.
Daniel Akpeyi
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Akpeyi married his long time girl friend Emmanuella Ebert-Kalu in a traditional ceremony in December 2016, before their white nuptial in June 2017. In July 2018, they welcomed their first child, Prince Jason Akpeyi, who was born in Port Elizabeth.
Ogenyi Onazi
Al-Adalah midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, survived a road accident on his way from Benin City in June 2016, a day after his traditional wedding ceremony with long-time Sandra Ogunsuyi.
The 2013 AFCON winner was returning to Lagos to prepare for his white wedding, when one of the tyres of his car reportedly burst after it ran into a pothole.
Onazi escaped unhurt and went ahead with the white wedding in Lagos, on June 18.
Taiwo Awoniyi
Union Berlin striker Awoniyi married his partner Taiwo Jesudun in an engagement and traditional wedding in Kabba, Kogi State on June 15, 2018, followed by a white wedding a day later in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Troost-Ekong
Super Eagles defender Troost-Ekong on Sunday, October 17, 2021 tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend at a private ceremony in London.
The 28-year-old defender had some of his Eagles teammates Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Leon Balogun, as well as his Watford teammate Moussa Sissoko present at the ceremony.
The couple welcomed a son earlier in 2018.
Moses Simon
Eagles star Simon and his wife, Ibukun Adenuga, met when they were in secondary school. Reports say she stood by Simon, when the Nantes winger was passing through trying times.
Simon later traveled to Europe, where his career flourished and never forgot Ibukun’s sacrifices.
The couple married in a traditional wedding ceremony on December 29, 2015 in Ibadan.
Ahmed Musa
Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa reportedly tied the knot for the third time, when he married a Shuwa woman identified as Mariam in a secret ceremony last July.
This came four years after his marriage to his first wife Jamila ended and he married Juliet Ejue from Ogoja, Cross River State.
His marriage to Mariam officially makes her his second wife.
Musa has four children: two from Jamila and two from Juliet.
Peter Olayinka
Slavia Prague striker Olayinka married Nigerian actress, model, beauty queen, actress and film producer Yetunde Barnabas June 2021, three months after the lovebirds held their traditional wedding in a low-key event, after about two years of dating.
Barnabas won The Most Beautiful Girl in Abuja pageant in 2017, and was crowned Miss Tourism Nigeria in 2019.She is best known for role as Miss Pepeiye on Nigeria’s long running sitcom, Papa Ajasco and Company, as well as several leading roles in the Yoruba movie industry.
Wilfred Ndidi
Wilfred and wife Dinma Fortune have known each other since childhood, and started dating during their late teenage period. What followed was years of togetherness, marked by unconditional love and mutual support through thick and thin.
In 2019, the couple tied the knot in Abuja with two wedding ceremonies to commemorate the holy matrimony. Ndidi and Dinma have been happily married ever after!
Henry Onyekuru
Olympiakos forward Onyekuru tied the knot with his wife Esty in a traditional wedding ceremony in Benin City in 2019 and a year later, in celebration of their anniversary, the footballer bought her a 2019/2020 Range Rover Sport worth about N60m.
The couple, who dated for several years before they got married, are blessed with two kids: a boy and girl.
Eagles’ second choice keeper Uzoho dumped bachelorhood December 26, 2018, after he married his long-time girlfriend Soomie in a traditional wedding at the Anglican Cathedral, Egbu in Owerri, Imo State.
The wedding rounded off a remarkable year for the shot stopper, who made his debut for the Eagles and also featured at the Russia 2018 World Cup as his country’s first choice.
Uzoho and his wife welcomed a son early last year.
