You really have to appreciate that before Chai had a personal stake in taking down SPECTRA (i.e. keeping his bodily autonomy) he killed someone for Peppermint. Like. Showed up on Vandelay campus, she went "if you help me I'll get you off the island", smashed some robots and then killed a person. Everyone post-Rekka is directly linked to the SPECTRA quest to save hundreds or thousands of people but Chai was already down to literally blow someone up for Pep on level two.
