Headcanon: Felix and Pepa's History
It turns out I really like doing these, so I'm just going to keep doing them. Anyways, this is how I think Pepa and Felix got together.
Pepa had a crush on him when she was five and he was six, but he was much too busy doing important six year old things, like learning how to spell, for a relationship. So she moved on to crushing on Romeo Florez, who was the best tree climber in town.
Felix had a crush on her when he was thirteen and she was twelve, she would have happily gone out with him, but she was a bit distracted trying to figure out how to deal with the deadly combination of puberty and weather controlled by emotions to notice he was interested. He dated Helena Pezmuerto, whose newborn sister was already showing a strange fascination with fish, because his uncle told him the best way to get over somebody was to date someone new.
Pepa had a crush on him when she was sixteen and he was seventeen, but he was already dating Etta Guzman. She started dating Caesar Serrano a week before Felix and Etta broke up.
Felix had a crush on her when he was twenty and she was nineteen, but she had just gotten out of a bad break up and he didn't want to take advantage of her pain. Juan Garcia, on the other hand, had no problem swooping in while Pepa was vulnerable. Kicking himself for hesitating, Felix dated Helena again, although neither of them were really into it. They admitted to each other they weren't ever going to fall in love, but made the "If neither of us are married by the time we're thirty" pact.
Pepa had a crush on him when she was twenty two and he was twenty three, but he was doing this whole off and on thing with Helena and Pepa managed to convince herself that meant Helena and Felix were soulmates. She listlessly considered the other men around town and decided she was content to stay single for a while.
Felix had a crush on her when he was twenty four and she was twenty three, but she was convinced he was in love with Helena and didn't want to be his rebound. He promised he would prove to her he was not, in fact, in love with Helena.
They both stayed single for a couple years, and started hanging out more. She learned all about his likes and dislikes, he figured out all the best ways to calm down her bad moods.
They both stayed "single" for another year.
They went to a party in the town square and spent the whole night dancing "as friends". Alma, Julieta, and Bruno were ready to go home before Pepa was, so Alma got Felix to promise he would make sure Pepa got home safe and sound.
(Julieta and Alma were not actually ready to go home, but Alma was hoping a moonlit stroll would nudge things in the right direction, and Julieta was happy to play along. Bruno didn't realize there was a scheme afoot, he was genuinely ready to leave the second they got there.)
After spending who knows how long dancing, Felix and Pepa took a break for some water and a snack. Pepa got some crumbs on her lower lip and kept missing them when she tried wiping them away with her napkin. Eventually, Felix just rubbed the crumbs off with his thumb.
Pepa suddenly felt absolutely ridiculous for pretending they were just friends.
She kissed him, he kissed her back.
Instead of returning to the party she asked him to escort her home. By unspoken agreement they went the long way.
They walked slowly, hand in hand, and talked about things. Pepa told him about all the times she'd had crushes on him over the years, he laughed and told her about all the times he'd had crushes on her.
They reach Casita and Pepa asks him, "What happens next?"
He grins, mostly joking, but also completely serious, "Well, if we're just going to keep coming back to each other, maybe we should just get married."
Pepa needs a second to respond, aware of the fact that he's probably teasing, but holy shit does she want him to be serious. Meanwhile the sky above her head starts filling with rainbows, which are a bit faint in the darkness, but still visible thanks to the lights coming from Casita. Felix stares up at the rainbows as they multiply and start to overlap, then makes an executive decision and gets down on one knee.
He doesn't get a word out, Pepa throws her arms around him giggling and saying yes over and over. She accidentally knocks them both to the ground but that's fine by him.
They spend the night on a couch in Casita, planning their wedding and their lives together. When Julieta comes down in the morning to start cooking and finds them there, Pepa happily announces they're getting married.
Alma's door is promptly thrown open and Alma, dressed for the day but only halfway through putting her hair up, asks Pepa to repeat herself.
Pepa does so, clasping Felix's hand close and Alma gets all excited.
By the time Bruno comes down for breakfast, wedding planning is well underway. He makes brief eye contact with Julieta, silently asking what's going on, and Julieta hands him a cup of coffee and explains Pepa and Felix are now engaged. He sits in a corner, sips his coffee, and resists the urge to ask when they even started dating.
He reads up on wedding superstitions. He reads the one about rain on your wedding day being good luck and thinks "Oh, Pepa will like that one!"
He tries sharing it with her as he gets ready to walk her down the aisle, the plan was to say "Good news! It looks like rain on your wedding day is good luck, so you don't have to hold back the tears during your vows".
The bridal march starts up before he gets farther than "Good news! It looks like rain-."
Pepa takes it as teasing and sticks her tongue out at him before they start walking down the aisle, but now she's hyper focused on not making it rain.
We know how that turns out.
When the hurricane passes Pepa playfully smacks Bruno's arm and tells him he got in her head with his stupid joke. Bruno once again tries to explain it's good luck but Pepa and Felix get pulled away to do wedding reception stuff. Bruno shrugs it off, the newlyweds are both happy and he figures they don't need to know something is good luck in order for it to work.
None of them really think about that again until Bruno disappears and being angry at him for the dumb joke he made at her wedding is way easier for Pepa than missing him.
He finally gets to explain the superstition when he comes back and Felix laughs his ass off. He can't quite put into words what is so funny but he does sling an arm around Pepa and tells her "See, marrying you makes me a lucky man."
Bruno rolls his eyes and leaves them to be shmoopy at each other. Which they happily do. They are just as taken with each other at the ages of fifty and fifty one as they were at five, thirteen, sixteen, twenty, twenty two, and twenty four.
They would have had a fourth kid if Pepa hadn't hit menopause shortly after Antonio was born.

It's midnight, and there's an elusive mosquito flying around my room preventing me from sleeping, so here are some cooking headcanons for the Madrigals:
Alma: She can cook well but tends to stick to the same meals all the time. She doesn't try many new things in the kitchen and is wary of new food items.
Félix: He is a grilling master. Give him an open fire to cook over, and he can make anything taste great.
Julieta: She had an interest in cooking from a young age, and her gift solidified her place in the kitchen. She can make anything, and everything she makes is perfectly seasoned. She likes to experiment - her siblings or Agustín and Félix are always the taste testers.
Pepa: She never had an interest in cooking, so she tends to burn things when she gets bored and distracted. She makes the best coffee, though.
Agustín: He's a clumsy disaster with everything he does (except being a dad) and that doesn't change in the kitchen. If he cooks, he ends up injured, something is set on fire or broken, and the food ends up ruined somehow. He still likes to be there as moral support while Julieta is cooking though, and serves as a taste tester when required.
Bruno: He's a mediocre cook and everything he makes isn't bad, but he does tend to undercook things because he's anxious about burning it, opens the oven too often to check on stuff, or flips things so much that they end up breaking apart.
Isabela: She likes to study herbs and other edible plants in order to improve them, but would rather have other people cook with them. She would much rather spend her time growing the food and working in a garden than cooking with it. She makes the best tea, though, and loves experimenting with tea mixes.
Dolores: She doesn't have much of an interest in cooking, but does like to make soup. The quiet bubbling sound that the boiling soup stock makes is soothing and drowns out some of the other noises her ears are constantly picking up. It's a long and quiet process that she enjoys.
Luisa: She loves to bake. Bread, cookies, cakes, and other desserts are her favourite things to make. She will often ask Isabela for herbs to experiment with in her loaves of bread.
Camilo: He likes to cook and is good at it. At a young age, he was interested in cooking and often followed Julieta around or watched baking rise in the oven. People usually thought he was after food because of his appetite, but he enjoys the process of transforming ingredients into a delicious dish. Bruno joked about switching his sisters' babies without them knowing once and got a hot arepa thrown at his head.
Mirabel: She's not quite as clumsy as her father in the kitchen, but she tends to avoid cooking. If she can help the cook with anything, she'll jump right in and try her best, though! She does like to make pies. Her favourite part is making designs to decorate the top of the pie. The kitchen usually ends up very messy when she's in there, but she doesn't mind cleaning up after herself.
Antonio: He's especially interested in helping decorate cakes or pies and making fun cookie shapes. He isn't as interested in cooking as Camilo was at his age, though. Guaranteed to have some animal fur get into the food, pet fur is inevitable after all.

Encanto head canon:
After Casita fell, Isabela got a lot more observant.
She notices every time a family member is picking at their wrists or skin in general around her
Every time she sees this, she sends a vine towards their hand to pull it away from their wrist
She turns it into a bracelet of their favorite flower to not draw attention to it even though everyone but Abuela, Antonio, and herself has gotten at least one bracelet
Bruno has the most
Mirabel second
Camilo third
Pepa fourth
Dolores fifth
Julieta and Luisa are tied
Agustín and Félix only have one
Antonio, Abuela and Isabela have none
(Antonio is a small child, Abuela doesn't do that, and Isabela doesn't draw attention to herself)

do you have any random hcs you’ve never really seen anyone else say?
ooh I’m not sure if they’re uncommon or not but happy to share!
- isa has a soft spot for kids in particular! she loves how they look up to her and think she’s the coolest ever (even after wecid) as she’s noticed a shift in how the adults act about her! she hates teens but to be more specific 15 year olds /j
- luisa loves hot chocolate but rarely has it because it makes her sleepy
- mirabel and camilo are both insufferable about their fave animals. like that’s their thing not yours !!!
- pepa hates white wine but loves red
- julieta hates red wine but loves white
- agustín hates awkward silence and would say the most random stuff to fill it
- in contrast felix can keep a conversation going for hours effortlessly
- Bruno hates sweet food because he ate hardly any of it in the walls and lost his appetite for it
- nobody can ever tell when almas being serious or joking post movie. Look at the proof! a mirabels like “ahahah are you being serious or ??!” unfortunately for alma she just SUCKS at humor

- Antonio tells all his animals they’re his favorite to avoid upsetting them (they find out and argue with eachother over it)
- mirabel painted the mural in the town!! she updates it post movie to include everyone and any changes they made to their appearances!
- dolores is really great at advice! she’s straightforward but in a compassionate way and really discusses it with you

Some dumb Encanto headcanons
-Camilo doesn’t think the country of Italy exists. Why would he? He’s never left the Encanto, so there never would have been much evidence for him to think it’s real
-Dolores seems to have superhuman intuition. She can almost always tell when someone’s lying. This is because when she’s close enough to someone (maybe 10 feet or so) she can hear their heartbeat.
-Julieta’s room is just a straight up kitchen. Like a restaurant grade kitchen.
-When Pepa is scared, it gets really windy. The day Mirabel didn’t get a gift and Bruno left, she was so anxious that she created a mini tornado.
-Isabela’s favorite plant is actually the cactus. She decorates a portion of her room with them. Luisa calls it her “wall of spikes”.
Felix also doesn’t believe in Italy. He’s fairly certain France is a thing, though.

If NO ONE will talk about the connections between Encanto and The Outsiders, I will.
-the characters, okay, the character crossovers,
Ponyboy Curtis is Mirabel Madrigal (the quirkyyyy one who thinks differently/is differently main character energy)
Sodapop Curtis is Isabel Madrigal (the pretty one who often gets seen as only beautiful/perfect and shallow because of it, but really do have a kind soul and are willing to sacrifice so much for their family)
Darry Curtis is Luisa Madrigal!!!!!! (The strong one, heavily depended on for physical/emotional labor, always stressed and worried about taking care of the family)
Two bit Mathews is Camilo Madrigal (the comedic character that drops hints of a deeper person/meaning but no one ever talks about it, also secretly tired of having to keep up the jokes all the time and never being trusted with anything serious)
Johnny Cade is Antonio Madrigal (shyer more dependent character who is close to having a massive character change~ possibly coming of age)
Dallas Winston is Bruno Madrigal (I see the connection here not in personality but how people act about these types of characters- abandoned, taboo characters who get shoved away, deemed as wicked)
Steve Randle is Delores Madrigal (often ignored but actually carries a big part in the plot which is never discussed- this character has a lot connections and uses them, also worth noting that Delores kinda treats Mirabel like Steve treats Pony with the innocent seeming snarky remarks, if you don’t understand I am referring to “Oh, she didn’t get one” when talking about gifts which was absolutely unnecessary)
-not to mention the “big family” trope in both of them
-and they both have trio siblingsss
-both have similar tropes of “adults not understanding” and abuse in families
-not to mention the outsiders is a musical and so is encanto
-also like some of the Songs are sooooo coded for certain outsiders characters
-imma do a list of that tbh
“The Family Madrigal” ~Ponyboy Curtis coded, he would introduce the gang like this
“Waiting on a Miracle”~ I know is seems Ponyboy Curtis coded, but this is a motherfreaking Johnny Cade song at heart no one can tell me otherwise “Can’t keep down the unspoken invisible pain, always waiting in a miracle” like TELL me that isn’t Johnny Cade
“Surface Pressure” DARRRY CURTIS SONG RIGHT HERE I MADE A POST ABOUT THIS
“We don’t talk about Bruno” Dallas Winston, pretty straight forward
“What Else Can I Do?” Honestly even though Soda has a lot in common with Isabel I don’t think it’s his song- I think it’s Steve’s.
“Dos Oruguitas” SAME ENERGY AS STAY GOLD PONYBOYYYYT AHHHH I CANT~ Johnny Cade, Ponyboy Curtis coded ahhhh song
“All of you” Ponyboy in that one line of like “Hundreds of boys who maybe watched sunsets and looked at stars and ached for something better.” But really this song is whole gang coded in different moments
“Colombia, Mi Encanto” I get Two Bit Mathews energy from this song- celebratory, beautiful, happy
-honestly this is the Part One of a longggggggg series of rants
-also this isn’t a connection but Delores is evil go watch the MatPat film theory here’s the link
youtube
Comment anything or shoot an ask about any of YOUR connections!

I can see Bruno making a whole checklist agenda when Pepa starts dating Felix like ‘can he take care of Pepa during this situation’ and ‘how will he react on her bad days’ and ‘what does he think about her gift’ and stuff like that because Bruno was probably the main one helping Pepa handle her gift before then.
But then he snuck along once during a date and watched them interact and just sort of went “yeah” and ripped his checklist in half

Headcanon where some of the previous gifts can be given again by the Miracle to the future generation of Madrigals every 50 years. For ex. Camilo’s shapeshifting powers can be passed to another younger Madrigal (provided its user is no longer living)
So it’s like, each gift has a lineage of users.
So fic idea!
Bruno accidentally looks 50 years into the future while doing a vision for the future of Encanto (as requested by Abuela). He hadn’t meant to get that far in the future, but a headache kicked in and he lost control for a moment.
He sees a young Madrigal boy who appeared to have the same powers as him. Bruno supposed some of their powers may be given again by the miracle to future Madrigal members.
Bruno couldn’t shake off the mixed feeling he has for someone he has never met. One, he is excited to know the miracle is still alive and so does the Madrigal family. Two, he wondered from whose lineage did the boy come from. Three, he felt sad that he would never meet the boy, never get to know or love him, never get to be there for him when he inevitably handle the burden his gift will bring him.
It’s ridiculous to feel so attached to basically a stranger. Regardless, Bruno’s heart is just too big that it extends to family members 50 years far into the future.
Bruno felt inspired to write an autobiography about his life and his family for the boy to read and revive the memory of the first generation. While writing, Bruno gets melancholic about his family’s mortality. He also wrote a letter of comfort for the boy if ever the burden of his gift gets to him. To remind him that if he thinks his family does not love him, or the villagers shun him, there is one in the past who does love him and understands what he’s going through.
Bruno tells his family about his vision and encouraged all family members to write what they want to say to the future generation. If the grandkids are healthy enough to push further in old ages, they will be alive to see the boy in the vision (he’ll be the grandkids’ grandchild), but they still wrote letters incase they won’t.
They had Casita hide the letters and requested to give them to a boy who looked like the one in the vision, 50 years later.
The Madrigals bonded as a whole family after that. Suddenly the time they spent together that day felt so much more precious. While it’s bittersweet to think they would all pass and become names in history, they also felt hope seeing that the Madrigals’ and Encanto’s future is strong.

I don’t think I was the only one who realized that Pepa is the only one of the triplets who doesn’t have the gray hair that correspond to her age. Instead, he has some rather blond locks.

After a little research I could know that red-haired people do not get the traditional white gray hair but that with the passage of time they become blond or brown, which would make more sense.
In a few years we will have a blonde weather queen?

Phantie’s Encanto: Los pequeños trillizos
Following is a part of my personal headcanon about the childhood dynamics and personalities of Madrigal triplets. It's movie-compliant, with some elements related to production materials and some answers given by director and crew to audience, like the rest of my fanon.
Lots of text and pictures under 'read more':
Three Madrigal children, born at the same time, have got traits of their parents split between them. Oldest, Julieta, fully inherited gentle, caring and selfless nature of her father Pedro. Middle sister, Pepa, impulsive and passionate, got strong will and persistence of her mother Alma. Youngest kid, their brother Bruno, has got golden mean of personality between two – his father’s protective loving heart and his mother’s stubborn, resilient character.
When the three were born, there were no children of their age in the entire village: just some older ones, and only couple of years after setting, new babies started to appear. This way, already inseparable triplets, always under watchful eye of their mother, had spent their early years all to themselves, in the company of each other, and couldn’t imagine to part their ways in any foreseeable future. But even in their unity, they soon started to see differences between themselves, each one stepped on the path to their fate.

Julieta, first triplet to see the light, embraced duty of firstborn child seemingly since her infantry. The most empathetic and sensitive, she always provided comfort and care not only for her mother and siblings, but for newborn children all around the growing town, mending their injuries, calming their disturbances, filling for their parents when they had no one to take care of babies while busy with chores, in between helping her mother with household and remaining loving big sister for two siblings, fairly troublesome at times. She never seemed to get tired of her business, despite nobody ever forcing work on her, yet everyone felt defenseless once she came to offer her help, due her irresistible kindness and genuine commitment. No wonder she soon earned title of “everybody’s mother”, spoken discreetly to not cause bashfulness in her. And since she was small, nobody in Encanto ever had doubt that she’s destined to grow up a successor of her mother, future leader of the town and keeper of household of her own. So, inevitably, talks and speculations began to spread out on the matter of her eventual choice for husband, though at the same time, everyone had to admit that, most likely, she will remain too good for whoever daring enough to make move, and even luckiest one bound to face pressure trying to stand on par with her finesse and nobility.
And while people around the town continued to marvel at her maturity, closest ones, her uterine siblings, were able to see beyond it. It could appear that oldest daughter, responsible and sound-minded, would be at complete control of her own feelings and wellbeing, but Pepa and Bruno, typically carefree under the wing of big sister, suspected in secret that her tender heart might turn into her fatal weakness. Worried that one day advantage can be taken of her selflessness, they decided to try and become self-sufficient in order to protect and guard one person who always assured their own safety.
In the end, no one was surprised that on her fifth birthday, Julieta, whose happiness lay in providing security and peace for her encirclement, was granted gift of healing people with her very touch and pieces created with her hands, and gained ability of her own being staying intact and sound in any circumstances, never catching any illness in already safe environment of magically secured town*. But, mused her siblings, this doesn’t mean that her heart is as invulnerable and unbreakable as her physical form, after all, if it wasn’t, she would not be that wonderful loving person they know.

If you ask about vulnerability and insecurity, Pepa knows it quite well, and anyone who happen to hang around her, gets clear impression of it too. Thankfully, it’s lot easier to hide your internal sensitivity by acting as openly assertive and fierce as possible, so no one can suspect you’re wearing your fragility on your sleeve. Not carrying responsibilities expected from oldest child also comes in handy sometimes. What she lacks in elegance and feminine softness, Pepa makes up for with flashy and visible manifestation of her personality. And it’s indeed a big relief, when in place of twisted stomach, you get small whirlwind, or wake up in your bed soaked wet from simple rain unconsciously created in bad dream, spared from embarrassment. Downside is, you still can’t keep your feelings completely unseen, and cause inconvenience for those around you, but it’s not as bothersome, if you’re don’t get worked up over other’s condition, especially harmless temporary kind.
You can be true family weirdo all you want, especially with support of your utterly ridiculous brother, who appears even more content with himself all the time, your main and often single playmate who effortlessly brushes off your grudges and turn them into laughter. One thing, however, causing distress to bring up around either of siblings, is what you can’t help but notice you are kind of black sheep among the flock: you are evidently not that fine compared to both of your siblings, mild-tempered, petite, cute (no, it’s just sister, Bruno is hideous, naturally!), with pretty dark curls, coffee-colored skin, and gentle deep eyes, all while you stick out like sore thumb with your stupid shaggy red hair, lanky skinny build, and silly face turning hot red at slightest sign of agitation or resentment. And what makes it all so ludicrous and upsetting, none of this could’ve been that much of disadvantage if it didn’t get in the way of your innermost desire – experience of miraculous romance like one that resulted in her own existence, except with guarantee of living happily ever after, and even if not, doesn’t mere opportunity to live through it makes up for all hardships it can bring? If only she was born gifted with everything to be worth of it, something her lucky siblings apparently take for granted and don’t sweat about at all. Brooding about her tragic predicament since she was four, upon entering adolescent years, Pepa completely came at terms with it and concluded that, if her incessant wishing is bound to bear fruit and true love waits ahead, it could be none other but one that accepts her the way she is, seeing all her flaws as virtues (philosophy her brother regards with skepticism, but nobody asked him!). Growing surrounded by miracles, it’s only natural to expect such occurrence of fateful love!

One can ask, wait, why even worry about what can or can’t happen in future if you have around somebody who can unveil your future for you and get you prepared for inevitability of success or failure? For that, there are two answers. First, precisely because of it. When you have cherished dream in the very core of your soul, possibility of ripping it off of you is lethal, and none of common sense warning you of probable futility of your dream makes ultimate awareness of it less painful. Second, inevitable embarrassment on both sides that comes with entrusting such intimate matter to your brother. Both sisters had agreed to never asking Bruno about details of their future, and all three mutually decided he has right to refuse taking a peek into their personal lives, no matter how desperate they can become to see it. The law remained unbreakable as long as it concerns individual fates of girls and not a necessity of precaution on bigger scope. As for what may lie ahead of himself, very careful experiments involving insignificant requests of closest in time events, proved that, apparently, seer can’t see his own future, neither can he accidentally peep his own involvement in any upcoming events, probably, just because said events generally are none of his business anyway… In any case, experiments ceased here. Doesn’t really matter, what can happen, said he, grinning with reassure, if we stick together through thick and thin. And if it happens so we have to part our ways, it’s only if we manage to find happiness of our own. In any case, we’ll never be lost and unhappy.

If Julieta’s forte was her graciousness, and Pepa preferred to put her trust into her guts, Bruno was undisputably the brain of three – astute and perceptive, he usually occupied position of observer, but if it called for action, approached it with precaution and ready tools. While his sisters were busy with housekeeping and daydreaming, he utilized free time to performing remained domestic tasks or taking any chance in education on available matters. Even after he received his gift and stable position in community, he wisely figured that work of soothsayer doesn’t demand full-time occupation, so he continued trying various activities with purpose of finding a calling outside of it, and though he proved decent capability in many things, he didn’t feel enough enthusiasm for most of it, but eventually has found that few most satisfying pastimes for him were self-expression via paint and paper, all accessible reading, and taking care of any living creatures in close proximity, most approachable of which turned out to be rodents living in Casita’s walls.
To the chagrin of the kid, he soon become aware of cruel irony of his gift being something that, in the turn of events that would allow him to get a taste of it before his fifth birthday set his destiny in stone, could bring him to decision of wishing something else for said gift, something that would truly encourage him for lifetime of using it. Gaining abilities of animal whisperer, for example, or becoming a magical painter and being able to bring everything he draws to life! Moving paintings, isn’t it exciting? Or maybe ever something more modest than that, like being able to see not through the time, but beyond the mountains, all the way to the remote places he, probably, never going to reach otherwise… But in reality, things turned differently, all because of his own overly pensive mind. Listening to the story of his father’s sacrifice, not for the first time, right before the celebration of his birthday, he, yet again, got so lost in contemplating possibility of safe outcome that could’ve keep the family intact… if only there was a way to prepare for escape in advance, to foresee danger… so these thoughts continued to run circles in his head even when he reached his hand to the doorknob of the shimmering door of his new room. It was not the first time when the house expanded on its own when there was need for it, and it was common occurrence for all life of the kids, what unexpected could happen?..
Of course, he knew since forever, that his position in the family is peculiar, him being single and eventually oldest male member, due to demise of his father, meant certain unspoken obligations. It was never discussed directly, he got not a word about it from his mother, but it was apparent for him – he’s expected to be successor of his father, misty, enigmatic figure, only tangible trace of whom existed in the form of large portrait hanging at the stair’s head on the way to his old nursery, that remained abandoned yet waiting for somebody to come and revitalize it, but in meanwhile, it served as welcoming quiet place for the boy to find occasional resort from all the hustle. The portrait depicted slightly haze image of dignified, sophisticated yet humble looking young man, his face frozen in serene yet somewhat apologetic smile, and the boy who stared at it couldn’t make anything out of it, let alone grasping in that face something he could identify with. His expression, though, it’s somehow reminiscent of big sister, concluded he with wandering smile, as if in response to the painted man. Talking to pictures would’ve been definitely handy… How else I supposed to figure what you wait from me? Portrait also expected something from him, but what it was he had no idea. Only one thing he was certain of, his duty to provide a shoulder his sisters, his family, could lean on, no matter if he ever going to take over mysterious identity of his father or not.

Although nobody assigned to him the duty of protection, he accepted it wholeheartedly and regarded as his purpose in life as long as it demanded. Sisters were his whole world, or, at least, embodied his major connection to the people. Naturally pensive and, someone could say, timid, he could let himself breath and entrust his worries to his oldest sister, and with middle sister he could unleash childish urge to just run around and enjoying life as kid of his age does. Something he couldn’t even admit to himself, with his big sister, mature and motherly beyond her age, he felt much more at ease than with his real mother, who, he always suspected, silently compared him with his nebulous father at every turn, and he couldn’t shake off the sense of disapproving from her. But Julieta had no such frame of reference, nor she cared if he gets to measure up to figure of Pedro, and loved him as he was, with all her candid heart. And with Pepa, he could not think twice to speak his mind and bother himself with politeness out of fear of causing offence that will remain unexpressed, as she wasn’t someone to bother herself with tolerance and always got back at him, sometimes with things like ball lightning, which didn’t cause much trouble either that couldn’t be mended with his other sister’s curative meals. Though he also had to deal with more grating aspects of Pepa’s personality, her propensity to overreact and involve those around her into the drama she’s main heroine of at the moment, and most tiresome of all, difficulties of consoling her without going through handful of insults in response, all while keeping himself from escalation of conflict (“You only take mercy of me because you’re a doormat!..” – “You’re not going to make yourself pleasant to people by acting like a grouchy hag!”). But all differences aside, one thing that inescapably brought the two together was their shared affection for their little big sister. Pepa could never allow herself to get consumed with envy for her sister’s superior grace, Bruno could never doubt that, if that time comes, he’s going to stand up for his second mother to the end.

* Remember the fact Pepa’s gift originally was supposed to make her indestructible before authors settled on weather control for her? As I assumed Julieta’s healing gift has potential of giving her immunity to any physical harm as well, it occurred to me, in the universe of movie, the trait could be implicitly passed to Juleta (thus, in a sense, their gifts are switched around in final version). We just can’t see it due its less obvious nature. And because inheritance, same trait potentially can be secondary effect of Luisa’s gift of physical strength.

now and always
"Name this child," Padre Flores intoned, and paused, waiting for Félix and Pepa to respond.
It was Pepa who answered, taking a deep breath. The family had heard the baby's name before, of course, he was a month old. But never his full name, not until now, and with good reason. She and Félix had had many hushed conversations in the past month, whenever they were sure Dolores was in her room.
Dolores, proud to be named as godmother, stood beside her father, carefully holding her baby brother. Did she know? They'd done their best not to let her overhear them, unsure themselves of their final decision until recently. But her daughter heard everything.
Félix grasped her hand.
Pepa took another deep breath. "Antonio," she said. The sun was shining and it was drizzling all at once, but her voice was steady. "Antonio Bruno Espinosa Madrigal."
The church had already been quite, but the silence that followed was so loud Pepa could hear it ring.
Padre Flores almost dropped the prayer book.
Agustín nearly fell out of his seat. Julieta steadied him, a hand over her mouth.
For just a moment, Camilo was a tall, glowing green figure with a wicked grin.
Flowers sprouted out of Isabela's hair.
And Mamá....Mamá had her hand over her heart. In the brief moment that Pepa risked looking at her, her eyes were closed. Pepa looked away before she opened them.
Padre Flores coughed loudly, several times, and cleared his throat. "Right!" he said quickly. "Okay, uh, do you, Félix and Pepa Madrigal...."
-
Dolores made a point of talking to her baby brother like he could understand her and loudly calling him by his full name. Her parents assumed the former was because she was excited to have a baby sibling, and the latter was to get them all used to his name.
Bruno wept.

So I rewatched the movie encanto, and I wondered something.
What would Bruno's kids be like?
Hear me out, Alma and Pedro gave birth to the past (Julieta, who heals past wounds), present (Pepa who can control the weather now), and future (Bruno who can see the future)
Julieta and Augustin gave birth to beauty (Isabella, who makes beautiful flowers and plants), brawn (Luisa who is stronger than ten men), and brains (Mirabel who solved the whole family issues)
Pepa and Félix gave birth to hear no evil (Dolores who hears everything), see no evil (Camilo who can change into anyone), and speak no evil (Antonio who can speak to animals and command them)
But what would Bruno's children be if he had any? What would their life be like in the encanto before and after Bruno leaves? Would he have triplets like he was with his sisters since everyone else is years apart? Who would they get along with? What do you think their powers would be? What would their relationship be with the members of the family? What would the villagers think of them?
I need to know what you guys think. Make your story for these three
