DAVAO DEL NORTE, March 31 (PIA) — The crowded fish wholesaling and retailing at the Binoling Fish Market in the Island Garden City of Samal have to temporarily end due to risk of COVID-19 spread of infection.

Island Garden City of Samal Mayor Al David Uy signed on Friday March 27 Executive Order No. 212 transferring The Binoling Fish Vendors, effective  March 30.

Located in  Barangay, Samal District,  the Binoling Fish Market used to be  Samal’s major marketplace where fresh fish and marine products are brought for storage, and for selling either in wholesale or  in retail.

Looking at the risk that intimate contact marine trading can possibly bring about, Mayor  Al David Uy orders the Fish Market, closed as emphasized in Section 2  which  also directs the suspension of all activities within the Binoling Fish Market.

  According to the Executive Order, the City Economic Enterprise Office (CEEO) will facilitate the transfer of Binoling Fish Vendors to their designated facility.

Retail fish vendors are transferred to Samal Public Market located at Penaplata, Samal District while wholesale vendors  are directed to conduct business at Community Fish Landing Center (CFLC) located at Penaplata Wharf, Samal District.  

Mayor Uy emphasizes the need for  all fish vendors “to coordinate with the Business Regulations Division of the City Mayor’s Office for the issuance of business permits and licenses before they may be allowed to operate”.

“Individuals found violating this Order  shall be meted with appropriate sanctions in accordance with City Ordinance No. 2015-252 and other relevant laws and regulations,” says Uy in section Section 5 of his E.O. No. 212.

The Executive Order  also puts  emphasis on health safety practices and directed vendors “to wear face masks at all times and provide hand sanitizers for customers”.

It also directs vendors to observe “a one-meter-distance in dealing with customers, and immediately report any information relative to person/s showing signs of COVID infections to the City Health Office (CHO) or other persons-in-authority”. (by Jeanevive Duron Abangan, PIA Davao del Norte)
