Cincinnati Bengals seem perplexed why local residents didn't want to give them $300 million for stadium fixes, even after the team said they would give just $50 million
A week ago, I saw an article by Mike Florio that spoke of the Cincinnati Bengals frustration with Hamilton County on the lack of progress with lease negotiations. The Bengals are in somewhat of a hurry. They need to sign a new lease rather soon because their current one runs through 2026. The Cincinnati Enquirer got emails between the team and city showing how displeased both were with the otherâŠ

post-game recovery
prompt- joe had a tough game. he didnât necessarily do bad, but the team looked like they had no chemistry, and there was some questionable reffing, resulting in a loss. what does he do for the stress? he takes it out on youâŠ
joe burrow x reader
a/n: as always pls give feedback and feel free to request
warnings: SMUT OMG SMUT MINORS DNI, nsfw under the cut
It was a tough watch. You sat in the suite, biting your nails as the Bengals played in Paycor Stadium. There was a good crowd today, but not a happy one. The ref missed a pass interference call, but then made a bad call against your team.
If things werenât already bad, Joe got sacked twice, and the catches were dropped more than they should be. Overall, it was just a bad game.
Every time Joe went to the side, you watched him closely. His jaw was clenched, he was so tense. He sat and quietly watched the clock while he was out. When the game ended, he walked back to the locker room silently.
One of the other women in the suite was talking to you about something, but you couldnât really focus on her. You were worried, because you knew that under all that silence and brooding, he just wanted to do well. Thatâs all he ever wanted to do. You hoped he wasnât too upset on the drive home; you hoped he saw himself how you saw him.
It had been about 20 minutes since the game ended; it usually took about 30 after each game for Joe to come out the locker room.
You stood. You were wearing black high waisted pants, with an orange, tight-fitting short sleeve shirt. You wore orange Nike hightop dunks, and held a black zip up jacket over your arm that you had taken off earlier. Your hair and makeup was done for the game. You walked to the elevators, and made small talk with the other women and families on the way down. When you got to the bottom level where the players came out, you leaned against the wall to wait, and opened your phone. There was a recent text from Joe in your notifications.
Joe: Iâll be out in a second.
You stared at it for longer than you needed to, as if you could read his mood from a one line text. And he did come out. He took a little longer than he usually did. He came out with a simpler outfit than he came in, with the rest of his clothes in the duffel he carried, you assumed. He stared at you the whole time he walked over, his blue eyes seemingly more piercing than usual. You brushed your done hair behind your ear, suddenly shy under his gaze.
You knew he didnât want you to talk about the game, it would just upset him. So you settled for a small, âHi,â as he reached you.
He raised his eyebrows as he looked at you. His eyes were tired, though, more tired than they usually looked.
âHey, baby.â He bit his lip absentmindedly. One hand on his duffel strap over his shoulder, he pulled you towards him with one arm, snaking down your back to cup your ass. He kissed you hungrily. He never did public stuff like this after games. It surprised you. He pulled away, and looked away, biting his lip absentmindedly. He held you by one finger as you both began the walk to the parking garage.
The walk to the car was silent. Joeâs sleek Porsche gleamed in the light of the parking garage. You took the drivers seat, as you always drove home after games.
The drive home was also silent. You assumed Joe probably wanted to be left alone, and you understood. If he didnât want to talk, he didnât have to, and you didnât want to annoy him.
âAre you hungry?â you asked quietly, as you parked in the garage.
He shook his head no, staring off into space. You both began opening up your doors to go into your house. You closed and locked the door behind both of you.
He goes upstairs to change into his plain boxers, as he took a shower back in the locker room. You busy yourself with doing the dishes, wiping the counters, just cleaning in general. Afterward, there wasnât really much else to do. Exhaustion from the day set in, and you realized that youâd been so preoccupied that you didnât even take off your shoes yet. Your back hurt, and so did your feet. You leaned one hand on the counter to slip off each shoe with your other. Little did you know, Joe was watching you from the couch in the living room, which led into the kitchen. Heâd sat there since he got back downstairs, just staring at you. He needed you, especially after a game that bad, and you looked so good.
You turned to go sit on the couch and stopped when you saw him. âOh, I didnât know you were in here.â
He sat on the couch with only boxers and socks on. His blonde hair was messy, his skin was tan. He also was not without his usual wristbands, his LSU one shone brightly against his tan wrist. He looked good, really good. And the way he was looking at you⊠You once again felt shy under his gaze. You thought he wouldnât want to be talked to, so what was this?
âCâmere,â he told you, not breaking eye contact. It was like you were out under a spell. You wouldâve went over there even if you didnât want to.
You sat next to him on the couch, but it was seemingly not close enough for his liking, because he dragged you over to sit right beside him by the inside of your thigh, to where your legs were basically all the way in his lap. His hands were so big, he left one on the inside of your very upper thigh. You wished you wouldâve already changed out of the clothes from the game. A small ache between your thighs cause you to squeeze them together slightly.
Joe didnât seem to notice the squeeze on his hand as he boredly looked at the TV playing a random show. He rested his head on the couch and sighed.
âThat game was fucking bullshit.â
âI know, Iâm sorry.â His jaw was clenched again, and he squeezed your thigh.
He was so tense still. You wanted to help him.
âI donât want you to be stressed,â you whispered as he pulled you all the way into his lap.
He hummed response, his eyes boring into you. He pulled your jaw in to kiss you. It was light at first, then he turned so hungry. He kissed you roughly, his hands going up your tight shirt to feel your skin. He couldnât communicated to you how much he needed you, and he needed you bad. So bad that he couldnât think straight. His hands on you wasnât enough.
Slowly, you slid down, in between his legs, onto the rug that was at the foot of the couch.
He looked down at you with lidded eyes. âOh my god,â he said as he realized what you were about to do. His hands twitched to grab you by the hair and fuck your mouth. âI wanna make you feel better,â you said quietly, looking up at him through your lashes. You palmed him, so lightly, through his boxers, a distinctive imprint already showing in them. You heard him let out a desperate breath.
âFuck,â he breathed out. âY/n.â
It didnât take long for him to lose the boxers. You began by slowly running your tongue from his base to his pink tip, swirling your tongue over the head of his cock. You took the head into your mouth and looked up at him. His lips were parted and he looked down at you in ecstasy. Then it was like a band snapped inside of him. His hand came to grip your hair as he forced you down roughly on his length. Your moans and whimpers were muffled with him in your mouth. So much for your done hair. You felt tears come down your cheeks as he thrusted into your mouth, abs clenched and a sheen of sweat on his brow. His palpable frustration and aggression made for an aching slickness between your legs that was uncontrollable. You could feel the throbbing of his dick in your mouth, and you knew he was about to cum. You silently pleaded using your tongue for him to give it to you. You wanted to swallow every drop.
âOh my god, Y/n. So good for me, angel,â He groaned out breathlessly. He was just about to cum when he lifted your head off of him. Your lips were flush and moist with saliva, and your mascara ran down your face in lines of tears. You couldnât even look confused as to why he didnât come in your mouth before he grabbed you.
He grabbed your arms to pull you up back onto the couch. âI wanna fuck you,â he said as he struggled to take off your clothes. You took your top off and he yanked at your jeans, the button of them eventually getting ripped off and jingling to the floor.
âIâll buy you some new ones,â He said in a rush.
You couldnât even respond because you were so focused on getting your clothes the fuck off. You were quickly left with just a bra and underwear. Joe undid the clasp with one swift movement of his hand, and your panties came off in a yank.
He pushed you down roughly to where you were laying on your back, fully naked, and slick between your thighs. One hand roughly squeezed your breast as one plunged two fingers into you. His mouth aggressively sucked and nipped at your neck, no doubt leaving dark purple marks in his path. His heavy breaths and your breathless whimpers and moans drowned out the droning of the TV.
He curled his fingers inside you, initiating a yelp from you. Your legs were spread, one dangling off the couch, your socks the only clothing left on your body.
âPlease can I fuck you,â he whimpered into your ear. It contrasted with his usual gruff voice, but he needed this. It wasnât long before he thrusted, in one smooth stroke, into your pussy. Every thrust caused you to cry out, and you pleaded with him out loud for nothing in particular. You were in complete ecstasy. He sat up from your ravaged neck and threw your legs over his shoulders to get deeper. His strong, tan, sweat slicked shoulders. His hand fumbled on your clit while the other held one of your legs in place.
Every thrust made an unholy sound echo through your living room, his grunts as he thrusted complimenting them. His bare cock stretched you, he was so big. Him rubbing on your clit made you so overwhelmingly pleasured. So much so that tears ran down the side of your face.
The pace and power of his thrusts quickened, and your legs began to tremble with you pushing toward your climax.
âJoe, Iâm gonna cum.â You barely could get it out. You wanted him close to you, pressed against you so could cling to him. One arm gripping what you could of the couch cushion, the other reached out for his thick arm.
âI know, angel, me too,â he groaned, throwing his head back as he thoroughly fucked you. He knew what you wanted, how you liked to dig your nails into him to keep you grounded every time he fucked you this rough. So he dropped your legs back down onto the couch, and laid his full weight on top of you, wrapping his arms fully around your torso. He groaned and grunted with every thrust into your ear, his muscular, tan middle against your soft, pretty pale stomach.
You were cumming, and you said his name like a prayer as his pace didnât slow down. You wrapped your legs around him as they began to tremble. He thrusted hard, clinging to you as you felt him cum in you. He pressed deep into you, and whimpered in your ear. Your nails were dug into his back, and you both came down from these highs together, savoring every drop of pleasure you both were feeling. A wave of drowsiness went through you.
âI love you so much. You did so good,â Joe murmured in your ear.
âI love you,â you said softly. He got up off you, slipping his boxers back on as he sat on the couch. You werenât so quick to bounce back from the events that just took place.
You laid on your back, legs splayed pressed together to the side.
âHey.â Joe slipped his hand between the fold of your stomach and thighs to gently rub your stomach. âYou wanna go upstairs?â He whispered as he gazed at you with care and concern.
âI donât think I can walk,â you said, drowsy.
A small chuckle escaped his lips. He stood, grabbing you under your knees and back to carry you up the stairs.
âI look ridiculous,â you whined, as you leaned your head on his chest to look up at him.
He shook his head, smirking, making it to your room. He genuinely thought you looked beautiful. You lay undressed in his arms, lips and neck flush from his manipulation, the only blemishes on your otherwise flawless skin. Your long eyelashes over your lidded gaze made his head spiral, and made him remember how he got you here in the first place. He gently placed you on the bed, pulling the covers over your shivering body. He went around to get in on his side, and gently pulled you close to him in the dark.
âYou okay?â he asked quietly.
âMmhm,â you responded, half asleep.
âThat wasnât too hard?â You smiled with your eyes closed at his care for you.
You hummed a no, and you felt him smile against you. Before you passed out, you blabbed one last thought.
âI think weâre gonna have to wash the couch, like everything on the couch.â

Joey B blurbs: Isnât She Lovely
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ-
Summary: Joe brings the twins with him to one of his press conferences, but all Miles seems to want is âMommaâ.
Warnings: Fluff
Pairing: Joe Burrow x reader
Imagine Universe: Into The Mystic
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ-
*No particular date for this fic!*
(Joeâs pov)
âJoe, my momâs calling. Can you take the boys with you?â - you
âTo my conference??â - Joe
y/n, Tyson, and Miles came over to Paycor today to watch us practice.
Afterward, I and a couple of the other guys stayed back to play football with the kids. The guys made a few jokes after Tyson successfully threw a spiral at two years old. I thought it was accidental, but Jaâmarr and Tee swore it was the âBurrow geneâ.
Now that almost everyone had left the stadium, y/n and the twins were allowed to come into the locker room with me.
y/n got on to me about how messy my locker was. I told her it was fine, but Tee made a âHappy wife, happy lifeâ joke saying I should clean it.
In the end, I knew I would end up doing it anyway to please her because that woman had me wrapped around her finger. She has since high school.
Currently, I was just about to step into the media room when y/n came rushing up to me, the twins behind her, saying that her mom sent a text saying call me ASAP.
Zac had just walked out from his conference, and he heard our conversation.
âYouâre allowed to take âem in if you want to. I know you would rather be with them than have someone else watch them.â - Zac
âYeah, okay. Thanks.â - Joe
âNo problem, kid.â - Zac walked off
y/n stood in front of me, her phone still ringing, and I made a split-second decision.
âGo ahead, Iâll take âem, baby.â - Joe
âThank you, you're the best, Joe.â - you
She looked around to see if anyone was present, and when there wasn't anyone, she pressed a quick peck to my lips.
I watched her speedwalk down the hall toward the women's bathroom to have some privacy, and I bent down to the twin's level.
âYou guys have to go in there with me for my press conference, okay? You know those videos you watch of me with Mommy where the people ask me questions?â - Joe
âYeh!â - Tyson
âYou guys are gonna sit on my lap for one, okay? If you wanna leave at any point tell me.â - Joe
âOk, Dada.â - Tyson
âWhat about you Miles? Sound good?â - Joe
âSound great, Daddy.â - Miles
I stood up and picked them both up, one in each arm, and walked into the media room.
It was kinda funny watching the reporterâs faces turn to shock. They knew I was a reserved, closed-off person, and that I hated the media, so for me to bring my kids in here was surprising to them.
Pulling my chair out, I sat down and situated the boys on my lap. One sat on each leg.
Tyson laid his head on my shoulder while Miles was looking around, trying to figure everything out.
âHowâs it goinâ.â - Joe
Everything was silent.
âWhatâs this?â - Reporter 1
âA one-time thing.â - Joe chuckled
Everyone in the room laughed before a reporter spoke up.
âWho are these cuties?â - Reporter 2
âThey're my two-year-old twins. Wanna say your names?â - Joe
I almost laughed as Miles immediately lept forward and grabbed the mic.
âIâm Miles.â - Miles
His voice was super loud in the speakers from how close he was to the mic, and I couldn't help but bust out laughing.
Eventually, I pulled Miles back into my lap and nudged Tyson. He silently shook his head.
âThis is Tyson. He's my little mini-me and doesn't like the media like his daddy.â - Joe
The room laughed again before I continued talking.
âYou guys can interact with the boys for a little bit but I'm here to talk football.â - Joe
For the first time since I walked in, the room fell silent, till Miles spoke up.
âMomma!â - Miles
âSomeone wants his momma.â - Reporter 3 laughed
âYeah. Sheâs on the phone, which is why I had to bring âem in here.â - Joe
âMomma?â - Miles looked up at Joe
âSheâs on the phone, buddy. If you guys can't already tell, he's a mommaâs boy. Heâs more like her than me personality-wise.â - Joe
âSo heâs social?â - Reporter 2 jokes
I laughed as I nodded my head, finding his dig at me to be funny.
âMomma!â - Miles whined
âGuys, excuse me, but I'm probably gonna have to call my wife.â - Joe
This was the most unorganized thing I've ever done.
Pulling my phone out to call y/n, she answered pretty fast.
âHello? Are you still in your conference?â - you
âYes, but can you come get Miles? He wants you like bad.â - Joe
âOh yeah, of course. Iâll be right there.â - you
âOkay, good. See you in a sec.â - Joe
âI won't say I love you, so you don't have to say it back. I know you don't want that being picked up on the mic.â - you laughed
âI love you too, bye.â - Joe smiled
âWhat?!â - you
I hung up just after that, not caring that I said it right into the mic.
âSheâs coming to get this one.â - Joe
I nodded at Miles, then realized he was waving directly at a female reporter.
Just a few seconds went by before the media room door opened and y/n walked in.
She looked at me, unsure of what to do, so I flicked my head telling her to come in my direction.
y/n walked up the platform steps and took Miles from my lap, who was smiling from ear to ear.
âDo you wanna go with Momma too?â - Joe
Tyson shook his head no and sat up, now facing the room of seated reporters.
I leaned the mic away from my mouth and whispered to y/n.
âThanks, Mama. You look beautiful by the way. I'll see you after this is over.â - Joe grinned
She grinned at me, her cheeks flushing as she situated Miles on her hip before waking away.
When I faced the reporters and fixed the mic back to point toward my face, they all had smiles on their faces.
âDid⊠did you guys hear that?â - Joe
All at once they all said yes, yeah, mhm, yup.
My cheeks turned red from embarrassment, this was an absolute trainwreck.
âSo⊠Tyson, what can you tell us about your daddy? What does he do at home?â - Reporter 3
âUhmâŠâ - Tyson sighed
All of the reporters laughed, finding it so funny that Tyson just pulled something so characteristically me.
âHe is just like you!â - Reporter 1
âWhat do I do at home, Ty?â - Joe
âKiss Mommy.â - Tyson giggled
I immediately groaned and covered my face with my hand. Tyson kept on laughing, and so were the reporters.
âIâm getting exposed right now.â - Joe
âWe, Uhm, pway footâŠball.â - Tyson
âWe do.â - Joe nodded
âThatâs it.â - Tyson blabbered
The room laughed once again till a reporter spoke up.
âSo all he does is kiss your mom and play football?â - Reporter 3
âMhm!â - Tyson
âPretty accurate, not gonna lie.â - Joe
âJoe, you're pretty smitten with your wife, yeah?â - Reporter 5
âHave been since high school. Sheâs the best though. The best mom, wife, best friend⊠and so much more. She keeps me grounded. I know I usually keep my personal life separate from football, but I love her more than anything.â - Joe
âMore than football?â - Reporter 2
âMore than anything.â - Joe reiterated
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ-
Authors note: though Joe would never do this, let's just imagine he would.

Hope you enjoyed! đ

Game day surprise
Pairing: joe burrow x reader
Word count: 1339
Today was the day, the day your husband took the field for the first time since November of last season. The first game of the regular season was here The Bengals versus the Tennessee Titans. Preseason went by in a blur, Joe didnât play preseason due to fear of reinjuring his wrist. Joe wasnât happy with the decision, but he supported his coach's choice.
Joe woke up at 7:30 that morning, he knew he had to get to paycor early enough to do his pregame ritual. He tried his best not to wake you but as soon as he got out of bed the empty feeling woke you.
âJoe come back to bed.â you spoke softly.
âI canât, baby. I need to go to the stadium.â he mourned. He wanted nothing more than to stay in bed with his wife. The temptation to go back to bed was strong but he knew that he needed to complete his ritual. He took steps towards You and placed a quick peck on your nose, your nose crinkled as you let out a small laugh. You then pull your husband into a quick goodbye kiss.
âPlease let me know when you get to Paycor I donât want to worry about you.â
âIâll send you a text. I love you, see you later.â
âI love you too, now goâ you said.
He pulled you in for one more kiss and started to leave, when you thought about telling him about the positive pregnancy test.
âJoe.â
He turned around after hearing his name.
âYeah?â
âIâm-â upon further thought you decided this wasnât the time. âNothing good luck today.â
Joe looked at you concerned, âAre you sure it's nothing?â
âYes, now go!â you said with a smile.
âYou can tell me everything, I donât believe it's nothing.â
âI promise you it's nothing Joe, I love you.â
You knew Joe would be happy with the news you have been trying to get pregnant since the twins turned two.
After Joe left you couldnât fall back asleep instead opting to clean the house a little bit. True to his word Joe texted you around 8:15 letting You know he made it to the stadium safely. At around 8:30 you decided to get yourself ready. You rummaged through your closet looking for something to wear. You were already starting to show a tiny bit so finding something that wouldnât show your tiny baby bump was hard. Finally you found an orange dress that wasnât tight fitting. You finished getting ready by putting your hair up in a ponytail. Walking downstairs you see the front door open, you quickly turn around and go back up the stairs.
âGood morningâ
You knew the voice right away. It was Robin. You let out a sigh upon hearing her voice. Joe gave Robin a key to the house for when she watches Logan and Leo. But you didnât expect her to be here right now. You walked down the stairs to greet your mother in law.
âYou scared me! I didnât know you were coming over today.â
âJoe called me, he said you were acting weird. He is worried about youâ
You checked your watch and saw the time, it was honestly an attempt to avoid telling her why you were acting weird.
âOh wonât you look at the time, I have to go get Logan and Leo ready.â
âWhat's going on? You are acting strange.â she expressed, concern was clear on her face.
âItâs nothing.â you brushed off trying to walk away.
Then it hit her, call it mothers intuition. A smile grew on her face at noticing a certain glow she'd only seen on you once before.
âYou're pregnant aren't you?â It was more of a statement than a question.
Your face paled as sadness covered your features.
âSurpriseâ You said softly, you wanted Joe to be the first one that knew.
Upon seeing your face Robin became worried.
âWhy are you sad?â
âIâm not, I just havenât told Joe yet. I mean the last time I was pregnant I went into Labor during the biggest game of his NFL career. It distracted him, he had a chance to win the superbowl. But Logan and Leo distracted him, I distracted him.â
âYou think he cares about losing that game?â she looks at you, all you can do in response is nod. âHe couldnât care less because even though they lost the game, it was the day you welcomed your two beautiful boys into this world. He loves you and them more than this sport. You guys have been trying to get pregnant for a while now. He called me after every negative test. He wouldnât admit it but I could tell he was sad. You need to tell him, he is going to be so happy.â
You offer Robin a small smile knowing she's right. The boys run down the stairs and jump on Robin.
âGRANDMA!â they both yell as they see her, she smiles and gives them both hugs.
âAlright you two let's get you ready so we can go see daddy play.â You ushered the kids back up the stairs.
âIâll tell him tonight.â
You followed the boys up the stairs.
They both wore their burrow jerseyâs and blue Jean shorts. As soon as they were ready they ran downstairs.
âOh wonât you look at you two!â Robin said, standing up from the couch. âHey, why donât we take my car. Jim and I will take them tonight so you and Joe can talk.â She smiled at you.
âAre you sure?â You questioned.
âOf courseâ
âThank you!â You give her a hug.
âHow far along are you?â She pulled away from the hug with a questioning look on her face.
â5, maybe 6 weeks.â
âYouâve kept this from him for this long?â
âI mean my husband is a very hard man to sit down and have a full blown conversation with right now. Plus I only just found out for sure, I met with my OB yesterday.â
âYeah Joes been on the go recently.â
âI promise heâll know today.â
She smiles as you two walk with the twins to robin's car. Each of you buckled in one of them before getting in yourself.
The car ride was silent, the only noise was the music on the radio playing quietly.
Once you arrive at paycor you get out of the car and grab your boys. Walking into paycor you see Joe about to head to the locker room. Security let you in instantly without checking your id knowing who you were. Joe noticed you and ran up to you.
âWhy are you guys here so early?â He asked then gave you a kiss.
âWe wanted to see you practice today.â
âIâm so glad you're here baby! I was worried about you this morning.â He said giving you a tight hug, thatâs when he felt the bump. He pulled away and gave you a questioning look similar to the one Robin gave you earlier. âAre you? Are we?â He couldnât contain his happiness.
âPregnant? Yes, Iâm sorry I kept it from you, I just wanted to make sure.â He smiled and picked you up and spun you around.
âI canât believe it.â He beamed and gave you another kiss.
âNow go get ready, I love you.â
âI love you too!â
Logan and Leo see their dad and run to hug his leg.
âGood luck daddy!â
âThanks boys! Luckily my lucky charms are here.â He said picking up Leo and giving him a hug before doing the same with Logan.
âOkay guys letâs let dad go get ready!â
The frown on the faces of the two little kids was enough to make you cry.
âMommy donât cry.â
âIâm okay boys, let head to the boxâ
Making your way back to Robin you all made your way to the box. Safe to say that was one of the best games Joe has ever played after finding out the news.

Snow On The Beach - Joe Burrow
Summary: After the past few rough months for the Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback, you decide to plan a one night get-away trip away from the city of Cincinnati is the best way to spend your boyfriendâs 27th birthday⊠but how good of an idea was it to plan a one night get-away trip to the house by the beach during Ohioâs Snow Season?!
Genre: Fluff and Angst
The past few months have been pretty rough for the Cincinnati Quarterback; on the second day of training camp he sustained a calf injury which caused him to miss out on the rest of training camp and the pre-season games, the calf injury continued to bother him on and off throughout the first six weeks of the season.
By the time Bye Week was over, Joe Burrow thought his run of bad luck was finally over as he started to feel like himself of the football field again⊠but only just a few weeks later, he would suffer an injury that would cause him to be out for the rest of the football season.
To say Joe Burrow is frustrated would be an understatement; he was furious that his season was over for the second time in his NFL career, he was furious with the NFL for wanting to do an investigation just because he wore a compress brace on the flight to Baltimore, he was furious that the chances of The Bengals making it to the playoffs have lowered because of his injury⊠but most importantly, he is furious about how the past few months of bad luck incidents have put so much stress on your relationship.
Joe knows how lucky he is to have such a supportive partner that has been by his side since the two of you started dating during your sophomore year at Ohio State University⊠This isnât the first time that either of you have felt like the universe is trying to test the two of you to see if your relationship could survive, but it was terrifying to think about how much longer your relationship can survive through these âtestsâ.
The past few months have been exhausting to live through day by day, at times you felt like the only time you and Joe spent time together was when an argument was happening⊠It was becoming harder and harder to be the supportive girlfriend when Joe wouldnât listen to your advice to take things easy, and now both of you are facing the consequences of being terrified to push the boundary wall of your relationship.
The past few weeks since it was announced that Joe was out for the rest of the season and that he would need surgery for his wrist⊠It has felt like the two of you are walking on eggshells around each other while pretending to act your relationship was fine.
Today is Joeâs birthday and while you wished that the two of you couldâve just had the entire day to yourselves for the first time in so long to be able to take a step in the right direction towards getting your relationship back on the right track⊠The NFL had other plans as they scheduled The Bengals to have a home football game on Joeâs birthday.
When the NFLâs football schedule for The Bengals was released in May, Joe was excited about the thought of playing a home game on his birthday⊠but as he sat on the sidelines bench throughout the game, all he could think about was wanted to do was be with you.
Usually after home game at the Paycor Stadium on Sunday afternoons, you would arrive back at Joeâs home before him⊠so you were grateful that you had some time to get everything ready for Joeâs birthday that you have been planning out for the past few days, before he has the chance to leave the stadiums
Joe has never been someone that wanted to go all out for his birthday. If he came home to a surprise party with a bunch of people in his house after the long day he had at the Stadium, he would not have a fun time at his own birthday party⊠and the last thing you would want to do was make Joe upset on his birthday.
You still wanted this day to feel more special and different from the past couples of weeks⊠and after many days of searching through Pintrest and Tiktok to get ideas for what to do on your anti-social manâs birthday, your brain finally came up with an idea.
It had been almost been an hour since you arrived back to Joeâs house, and you were so busy getting everything ready to go that you didnât realize how fast the time went by⊠and before you could notice; Joe had parked his car in the driveway and was walking up the front steps with his keys in his left hand, ready to unlock the front door that he knows you had locked.
The sound of the front door opening caught your attention away from the kitchen table and a smile appeared on your face as you watched Joe walked into the house.
âHey Birthday Boy!â you exclaimed, stopping what you were doing and walking over to Joe to wrap your arms around his neck and kissing him on the cheek.
âHey Pretty Girl.â Joe said, wrapping his left arm around your waist, as his right arm was in the sling. âDid you have a fun at the football game?â
You nodded your head, âIt was fun⊠but I canât lie, Iâm still not used to not seeing you on the field but instead on the sidelines.â
Joe sighed, âYeah, itâs been about 4 weeks and Iâm still not used to sitting on the sidelines for the game either.â
As he pulled you to give you a hug without putting any pressure on his right arm, he looked over your shoulder to see a checklist, a whole bunch of random items on the kitchen table and two suitcases at the bottoms of the staircase.
âIt looks like youâve been busy.â Joe says. You pull away from the hug and walk back over to the kitchen table as Joe followed you. âWhat have you been planning?â
âI know what you said that you didnât want to do anything for your birthday⊠but I still wanted to make today feel special.â you explained as you started to do continue pack the random items into smaller packing bags and checking items off your checklist.
âEveryday is special when I spend the game with you.â Joe cheekily says with a grin.
You playfully roll your eyes before saying, âYou know what I mean Joe⊠Things havenât gone exactly the way weâve wanted things to go for the past few months.â
Joe immediately understood what you meant by what you had said. From the injuries to the arguments, all the bad things that you wished could never happened just never seemed to stop⊠He couldnât help but feel a little bit guilty that it was partly his fault for the recent troubles in your relationship.
âI know and youâre right⊠Iâm sorry.â He says.
You shake your head as you stopped what you were doing to walk up to him, kissing his cheek and then pulling him into a hug. âPlease donât apologize for something that this not your fault, neither of us couldâve expected the things that have happened to you over the past few months.â
The hug didnât last as long as Joe wished it couldâve. Because of how it has felt like the two of you had been walking around on eggshells, Joe canât remember the last time the two of you had an intimate moment together that didnât act an apology for an argument.
âYou still havenât told me what youâve been planning.â Joe says as he takes a glance at the checklist, seeing a bunch of items that had been checked off the list that he assumes have been packed into the suitcases.
âRemember a few years ago when we rented an airbnb house close by EdgeWater Beach in Cleveland during the Summer with Sam and his ex-girlfriend.â You asked and Joe nodded his head. âI know that itâs probably not very convenient for your schedule, but I rented the same cabin close by the beach for tonight⊠I figured that maybe we need to get out of this house for just a night and what better excuse to get out of the house than to celebrate your birthday!â
When you donât get an immediate response from Joe, you turn your head to look at him and you were confused to see a massive grin on his smile.
âWhatâs with the massive grin on your face?!â you asked. âYouâre grinning just like Mr. Grinch.â
âIâm not grinning like Mr. Grinch.â Joe defensively says. âAll I was doing was grinning at you.â
âWell you didnât say anything immediately after I told you⊠so I was a little bit worried that you didnât like what I had planned out for tonight.â you say.
Joe walks towards you to stand right behind you, wrapping his left arm around your waist as you leaned your back to his chest. He kissed the top of your head and then leans down to kiss your cheek multiple times causing you to giggle at the over the top affection.
âYouâre right when you said itâs probably not very convenient for my schedule⊠but itâs my birthday so I think that allows me to change my schedule around.â Joe whispers. âEspecially if my girlfriend and her amazing top-secret planning skills are the reason why Iâm allowing myself to change my schedule.â
You turn around so that youâre face to face with him and you smile when you see that the massive grin is still on his face. âThatâs good to hear, Iâll keep that information for the future⊠Itâs good weâre on the same page because weâll have to be going soon if we want to be on the road and make it to the house to unpack our stuff before going to our dinner reservations.â
âWe have dinner reservations tooâ Joe exclaimed. âWe have dinner reservations at what restaurant?!â
âI booked us dinner reservations at The Bourbon Street Barrel Room restaurant that we loved when we were in the town with Sam and his ex-girlfriend.â You answered. âEverytime weâre in Cleveland we always say that weâre going to eat at the restaurant again but then we never do because we already out of time.â
âI remember that restaurant⊠What time are the dinner reservations at?!â Joe asked.
â8:30â you answered. âWhich is in almost 3 hours.â
A confused look appears on Joeâs face. âYou do know that itâs about a 3 hour drive from here to Cleveland⊠and who knows how bad the traffic on the highway is going to be.â Joe stated.
You nod your head and sighed, âListen I understand that I probably didnât plan everything out perfectly into the schedule we already had planned out today because of the game⊠but I really tried my best and I think we can make it to the airbnb house and then to restaurant for our dinner reservations if we rush out the door in about 5 minutes.â
Joe chuckled, âHonestly youâre great at alot of things, but I donât think time management skill is one of those things⊠Let me make a phone call real quick.â he says before stepping away from you and pulling his phone out of the pocket of his jeans.
âIt better be a quick phone call⊠we need to leave in 5 minutes!â you exclaimed, before continuing to finish packing the items that you had to check off the list.
Joe had walked away from the kitchen so you could ease-drop on his phone-call conversation with whoever he was calling⊠You just hoped whatever conversation Joe was having on the phone wouldnât be too long of a conversation, because the two of you would have to start the drive to Cleveland soon.
-
It was Joeâs birthday but here he was spoiling you. The plans for the 3 hour drive to the airbnb house in Cleveland got canceled, not because you and Joe realized it was too late to get on the road⊠but because the phone call Joe had made, was to arrange his private plane to fly the two of you to Cleveland (turning the 3 hour drive into a less than an hour flight).
On any other occasion, you wouldâve argued that taking a private plane just to Cleveland was a waste of a flight⊠but it was his birthday and the last thing you wanted to do was argue with the birthday boy.
As soon as the car ride (that Joe had also planned out to pick you and him up after the private flight) had driven the two of you to the airbnb house by the beach⊠The happy memories of the last time the two of you were here came back to your minds, entering the house for the first time in many years, noticing that many things had changed not just in the house but in your relationship with Joe.
Even if it was just for tonight, it was nice to pretend that everything has been perfectly fine in your relationship with Joe for the past couple of months as the two of you got ready for the dinner reservations together in the main bedroom⊠and by getting ready together meaning that you helped Joe put on his nice jeans and button up shirt since his right arm is in a cast, then him keeping you company and watching while you do your make-up and your hair.
There was no reason to rush anymore, like Joe had said before, the way you handle time management isnât your strongest skill⊠maybe you were a little lucky that Joe had his private plane on speed dial incase of âemergenciesâ like tonight.
Itâs as if the minutes started to go by faster by the time you and Joe had arrived in Cleveland because before you knew it⊠The two of you had arrived at The Bourbon Street Barrel Room restaurant for your dinner reservations, and the staff was so excited to be hosting the Cincinnati Bengalsâ birthday dinner because everyone in Ohio loves Joe Burrow.
Joe felt like himself as the two of you were in deep conversations with each other while waiting for the food to arrive at the table⊠Joe had felt so lost since coming to the realization that for the second time in his NFL career, he wouldnât be able to complete the rest of the football season.
For the first time in what has felt like forever, the two of you were able to be around each other without feeling tension in the air between the two of you⊠While Joe was slowly starting to come to terms with the fact that his season was over, he realized that he shouldnât let the things that he canât control have any effect on his relationship with you.
If anyone else wouldâve planned this one night get-away trip on his birthday, he wouldâve told them to refund the money spent on the trip⊠but he knew that you knew that the two of you needed this one night away from your home in Cincinnati and he was grateful that he had a partner in his life who knows what he needs without having to say it.
Thankfully, the restaurant staff was able to seat you and Joe at a table that was secluded by the rest of the restaurant, in your own private area just for Joe to be able to enjoy his birthday dinner with you⊠and the food was even more delicious than you remembered from the last time the two of you ate at the restaurant.
The two of you had sat in silence while eating your meal and enjoying the music from the restaurantâs speakers⊠but it wasnât a silence that was filled in the void by tension and lingering frustration after an argument came to an end, the silence was a peaceful.
And to make the end of dinner even more special, the waiter brought two slices of red velvet cake for you and Joe to enjoy before leaving the restaurant⊠you thanked God that the waiters didnât sing the Happy Birthday song to Joe because you knew he wouldâve been uncomfortable afterwards.
After the long night at the restaurant, Joe and you were in the back of the cab on the way back to the airbnb house, cuddled up side by side against each other feeling just a little bit tipsy because of the wine and the good food that was settled in your tummies.
The city of Cleveland has never looked so beautiful before as you were staring out the car window looking at all of the Christmas decorations that were scattered around the buildings along the streets.
Joe was more focused on how gorgeous you looked, sitting next to him in the car with his jacket being worn over your shoulders because your long sleeve dress was not enough coverage to keep you warm, rather than the different Christmas decorations you keep pointing out to him through the windows every couple of minutes.
It didnât take long before the cab parked right in front of the driveway and not even a minute later you and Joe were walking, with your right hand intertwined with his left hand, towards the front patio to the door as the cab was driving away.
Unfortunately Joe had to let go of your hand in order to reach for the keys to the house that were in the pocket of his jeans⊠As Joe unlocked the door, the light snowfall that had started as the two of you were leaving the restaurant was starting to get heavier.
The EdgeWater Beach was only a few short miles away from the airbnb house but the view of the snow heavily falling onto the sand was a beautiful sight to see that had you memorized.
âYouâre staring at the snowfall Pretty Girl?!â Joe asked, reaching his left hand out to grab your hand to pull you inside. You were so distracted by the snow falling, you didnât realize Joe had finally unlocked the front door.
âI was wondering when the snow was going to start in Ohio.â you exclaimed, following him inside the house. âIt feels like itâs been forever since it has snowed.â
âDonât say that you miss snow⊠otherwise itâs going to snow until April.â Joe jokingly says, as he struggles taking off his coat, which forces you to help him before taking off your own coat to hang on the coat rack.
âSo now I know you didnât blow out the candle and wished for snow.â you say, referencing to the slice of red velvet cake that was gifted by the restaurant staff.
Joe laughs as he states walking towards the living room to sit on the couch, âNo I definitely didnât wish for snow.â
âSo what did you wish for?â you curiously asked, sitting next to him on the couch.
Joe turned his head to glare at you with a smug on his face, âThe birthday wish doesnât come true if I tell you.â
This time, it was your turn to laugh. âI told you what I wished for when it was my birthday a few months ago!â you exclaim. âJust tell me your wish!â
Joe zipped his lips and shoved the invisible key into his pocket. âYouâll know one day⊠today is not that day.â
You playfully rolled your eyes and huffed, âWell⊠since you donât want to tell me your birthday wish, I guess weâll just move right along to your present.â
âMy present?!â Joe asked.
You nodded your head as you stood up from your spot from the couch and run upstairs to the main bedroom to grab the present that you hid inside your suitcase.
It didnât take you long to come back downstairs with Joeâs present in your hands as you sat in the same spot on the couch and handed the present to Joe.
âI might need some helpâŠâ Joe says, slightly lifting his right arm. âBecause of this situation.â
âOh right.â you shyly say. âSorry I didnât realize that unwrapping the present might be difficult for you.â
Joe gave you an apologetic smile before he started to unwrap the present with your help⊠As he tore off more of the wrapping paper, he could slowly start to see that it was some sort of frame. Once all the wrapping paper was torn off the frame and thrown into the living room floor, Joe analyzed the frame.
âItâs the Night Sky Star Map⊠and if you look at the date on the bottom, itâs the day that you asked me to be your girlfriend.â you shut explain, pointing to the frame. âIâll be honest with you, I had trouble trying to figure out what to buy you for your birthday⊠because what do you get for the guy who could buy anything that he wanted whenever he wanted.â
âThis is⊠the most thoughtful gift Iâve ever received!â Joe exclaims. âI mean you know how much I love astronomy stuff⊠Itâs good to know I asked you be my girlfriend on such a pretty starry night.â
A smile appears on your face as you let out the deep breathe you had been holding in for the past couple of minutes⊠He leans forward to give you a peck of the lips before placing the frame next to him on the couch then pulled your body close to him with his left arm.
Joe kissed the top of your head, âThank you for the gift, and while you are right when you said that I could buy anything that I wanted whenever I wanted⊠Anything that I would buy for myself would never be as meaningful as getting a gift from you.â
You snuggled close to Joe and his left arm wrapped around your shoulder to bring you closer to him⊠The two of you sat together in a peaceful silence as Joeâs fingers twirled the end pieces on your hair, you rested your head on his chest listening to his heartbeat and feeling him taking deep breathes under the palm of your hand.
The owners of the airbnb house must love to decorate for the Christmas because the living room was decorated very nicely for the holidays⊠The decoractions around the living room werenât overwhelming obnoxious with random decor that people buy just to keep up with whatever Christmas decor items are trending on social media but it was Christmas decor that has been passed down through families for many generations as has been taken care of to make the house feel like home.
It was a cozy setting that made you feel like the two of you were in a Hallmark Holiday movie. You lifted your head just a little bit to get a better view from the window of the snow falling on the beach⊠Joe looked down and watched how your eyes glistened as you admired the snowfall. While he was never a huge fan of snow, he knew how much you loved this weather.
Maybe it was because of the good food and wine or because of the exhaustion from the long day, but you felt very spontaneous in the moment⊠An idea had come to your mind as the two of you were watching the snow fall get heavier as the minutes went by.
Quickly, you stood up from your spot on the couch and immediately started walking back over to the coat rack to put on your coat⊠Joe, who had started to doze off because he felt so relaxed, sat up and was confused.
You walked back over to the living room and he saw you wearing your coat and then noticed that you were holding his coat in your hands⊠Before Joe could ask you any questions, you tossed his coat to him signaling that you wanted him to put it on.
âWhatâs going through that pretty little mind of yours?â Joe asked. âYouâre not thinking what I think, right?!â
You slowly nod your head and Joe sighed, âItâs too cold to go outside⊠The snow falling heaver by the minute.â
âThis is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be on the beach while itâs snowing!â you exclaim. âItâs a beautiful sight that I canât stand watching from the couch!â
âI wouldnât call this a once in a lifetime opportunity since it snows in Ohio every year.â Joe says.
âAnd have you ever seen snow on the beach before tonight?!â you asked, crossing your arms.
Joe sighs again and shakes his head in defeat, the last thing he wanted to go was start an argument with you since today was the first day in a while where the two of you havenât argued about anything.
âIf you really donât want to go outside then you donât have too⊠But Iâm going outside even if itâs just for a few minutes to admire the outdoor scenery.â you said, before turning around and walking out the house.
Joe flinched when he heard you slam the front door shut. He took a deep breath to calm his fast-beating heart down before putting on his coat that you tossed to him⊠While Joe really didnât want to go outside in the cold weather, he wasnât an idiot to allow his girlfriend to wonder off during the night.
It doesnât take long for Joe to follow your footprints in the snow and to find you standing on the beach, admiring the cold atmosphere⊠He didnât immediately walk up to you, allowing you to have some space.
It wasnât the worse argument that you and Joe have had recently in the past few weeks, maybe it wasnât even an argument at all, but if Joe knows you like he think he does⊠Joe knows that you were probably more frustrated that the two of you allowed yourselves to set up a situation to argue about that wouldnât have been avoided if you didnât walk away.
He watched you pull your phone out of the pocket of your coat to take a couple of pictures and a video of the snow falling onto the sand, kicking the snow around as you walked closer to the ocean.
The cold atmosphere and the sigh of walking the snow fall onto the sand was truly something Joe had never seen before⊠and maybe you were right about this being a once in a lifetime experience, because who knows the next time the two of you would be on the beach during the Ohio snow season.
After a few minutes of Joe watching you admire the outdoor scenery, he slowly started to walk towards you⊠The last time he wanted to do was scare you from behind, but before Joe could make his presence known to you.
âI guess you made your decision to join me outside?!â you exclaimed, turning around and giving him a polite smile as you watched him walk closer to you.
âWhat kind of boyfriend would I be if I allowed my girlfriend to wander in the middle of the night?!â Joe asked, wrapping his left arm around your waist.
âA pretty terrible boyfriend if you ask meâŠâ you whisper, allowing yourself to lean back against Joeâs chest as the two of you admired the view ahead.
There was silence between the two of you, but it wasnât the peaceful silence like in the restaurant when the two of you were enjoying your dinner⊠It was the kind of silence that the two of you have been familiar with over the past couple of months, the kind of silence that has caused the two of you to walk on eggshells in order to avoid arguments.
Joe took a deep breathe before speaking, âIâm sorry⊠not just about tonight but about what has been going on between us these past couple of months.â
You stayed silent, but took hold of his left hand and gave it a squeeze, letting him now that you are listening and allowing him to continue to speak.
âI know that you more than anymore knows how hard these past few months have been for me⊠This football season hasnât gone the way that I planned and itâs been frustrating to go through.â Joe explains, âI havenât felt like myself in months, itâs been hard to motivate myself to get out of bed and go to the stadium and to be a leader for the rest of the team... and throughout all of this, youâve been by my side supporting me. Iâm sorry for putting you through all of this mess and thinking so careless at times not realizing how itâs affecting you and our relationship.â
You took a deep breathe as you squeezed his left hand before letting go and turn in around to face Joe. Thereâs sympathetic smile on his face, his nose was red from the cold air, and his eyes glistened with tears.
âI understand itâs been hard and that breaks my heart.â you whisper, placing a hand on his cheek, wiping the tears with your thumb that were starting to fall. âIâve wanted to have many conversations with you but I didnât want to cross the boundary line and pressure you to talk about things you mightâve not wanted to talk about⊠which is one of the reasons why I planned this one night getaway trip on your birthday, I wanted us to get out of the environment that we had been stuck in for months even just for one night.â
You take a pause, because you didnât want to overwhelm Joe with all the things you have been waiting to say to him for months⊠As you looked at the time on your phone, maybe right now wasnât the time for the two of you to have this important conversation.
âLook, itâs almost midnight⊠I donât think we should have this conversation right now.â you say, âTomorrow weâll talk about everything⊠Letâs enjoy the last couple of minutes of your birthday, letâs enjoy our one night getaway trip away from Cincinnati. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate your birthday on the beach while it snows.â
Joe laughs and nods his head, âYouâre right⊠this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.â
You smile as youâre leaning forward to press your lips onto Joeâs lips and the hand on his cheek is guiding him in the kiss⊠His left hand grabs your waist to pull you closer to him and your right hand grips his coat.
Only just after a minute, the two of you pull away from each other to catch a breathe. As a shiver went down your spine, he pulls you close to his body and you let out a giggle as you wrapped your arms around his neck and rested your head in his shoulder.
âHappy Birthday Joe.â you whisper. âI love you.â
âThank you⊠and I love you too.â he whispers.
The two of you spent the rest of your time on the beach watching the snow fall around while wrapped in his arms, as your bodies swayed side to side watching the clock on your phone countdown to midnight to signal the end of Joeâs birthday.
Soon the two of you would have leave the beach to go back to the house just a few miles away and then leave again to go back to Cincinnati, not knowing when you will have the chance to have another one night getaway trips away from the city⊠and soon would have cross those boundary lines in your relationship to have the important conversations of where your relationship stands after the rough few months.
But for right now, youâre not worried about the future. You trust that things will work out in their own way, and that one day youâll be able to look at the past few months as a lesson in your relationship⊠Right now, youâre taking in the moment of falling more in love with Joe Burrow, just like the falling snow on the beach.
