I costruttori iniziarono cosĂŹ a produrre chitarre conâŚ

an overview of paul's guitars
before we look into pauls gear, i want to make sure we all are aware that im talking about the guitars he used WITH interpol. ill add some notes on his other instruments at the end of this post.
[paul with his and daniels guitars]
LES PAUL CUSTOM
"I've owned my Les Paul Custom since high school... its all I pretty much use today."
from what i can tell, paul has two les pauls, and he uses them interchangeably. first, though, id like to do a quick spec overview. his guitars have an ebony finish, and seeing as this guitar was most likely acquired in the 90s, gibson 490r and 498t pickups. in almost every picture i see of his les pauls, it seems he or a guitar tech have switched out the stock gold bridge with a black one. im not a gibson expert, so im not sure of the exact model, but it looks to be a tune-o-matic style bridge. he also has removed the covers on the pickups of his guitar. another quick note, in photos from around 2004 to 2005, there is a square shaped hole cut clean through his piece of velcro on his les paul. this was done to hold his ebow during take you on a cruise. thats all the specs/mods to show, ill put some pictures highlighting the points ive gone over.
[a close up of one of pauls les pauls, 2015. note the bridge, and absence of pickup covers]
[what i thought was a hole turned out to be a piece of velcro]
[hole has been blocked/filled! may 21, 2005]
[early picture of paul, with his pickup covers still on. very modest]
JAGUAR
"The Jaguar actually came about specifically within Interpol because I had written a part in which I wanted whammy, and I don't like Les Pauls with Bigsbys."
from what i can deduce, i think this guitar is a fender american vintage jaguar from 2005-06, in black. paul hasnt done too many mods to this instrument, though their are a few changes, most importantly, the pickup swap. he changed the stock jaguar pickups to seymour duncan hot rails sometime after recording our love to admire. while this definitely changed the sound a bit, this was after OLTA, so i wont bother finding dates, as the songs the jaguar was likely used on wouldve been the stock single coils. next up, the pickguard. the american vintage jags in black came with a tortoise shell pickguard, but pauls has a black one. what gives? well, seeing as carlos' jazz bass came with a white guard, but that was switched to black, its not outlandish to believe that this was done by paul or his tech, to give the jag a darker look. paul also put tape on the guitars lower horns control switches, most likely to stop his hand from accidently hitting the switches, and changing his sound mid song.
[paul with his jaguar, before he swapped the pickups.]
[another pic before the pickup swap. note the tape on the control panel.]
[a later pic, where we can see he added MORE tape to the guitar, and after he swapped the pickups to hot rails.}
INTERMISSION
if you ask me, pauls les paul custom and jaguar are the two guitars youd definitively need to get his sound, and also the two guitars HE uses to get his sound. but what other guitars has paul used with interpol? lets see.
LES PAUL DELUXE
used during the TOTBL era, this guitar is sort of a mystery. for one, he didnt seem to favor it for certain songs, using his les paul custom and deluxe interchangeably for many songs, even playing full shows with his deluxe. secondly, from what ive seen, this instrument was NOT used after the TOTBL era. its probable that this instrument was either used on a few songs from TOTBL, and brought along on tour as a backup that paul just happened to really like and play alot, or it was rented for shows over seas. either way, its an interesting case.
[the mysterious gold top deluxe. wonder what song hes playing here?]
FLYING V
paul has stated that he thinks the flying v is the coolest looking guitar out there. to each their own, i guess. that doesnt matter, what matters is that he played this instrument in the barricade music video. he used this guitar at the end of the OLTA era, during the self titled era, and has rarely been seen with it after that. most likely has the same pickups as his les paul custom, but dont quote me on that.
[as long as he likes it.]
CONCLUSION
there is one more guitar i didnt bring up, so ill do it here now, and its his dave murray strat. he hasnt used it live with interpol, though it is seen in behind the scenes footage of el pintor. anyways, leave a comment if youd like me to cook up a list of what guitars i think were used on each song! i hope you enjoyed reading this, next up i think ill go over his amps and other equipment. till next time.
[Paul Banks.]

Keith Richards pictured with a â59 Les Paul that he sold to Mick Taylor when Taylor was playing with John Mayall. The guitar rejoined the Stones with Taylor in 1969.
According to information provided by high-end guitar brokerage Richard Henry, the âKeith Burstâ is a â59 Les Paul that first arrived at Farmers Music Store in Luton, England, in â61, and was played for a time by John Bowen of Mike Dean & The Kingsmen. Bowen had a Bigsby added to the guitar at Selmerâs Music in London, before trading it in there in late â62. A young Keith Richards, who purchased the Les Paul with Bigsby, occasionally visited a regular haunt of musicians on the booming London scene of the day, Selmerâs. (Itâs worth noting that both Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and Jeff Beck of The Yardbirds also acquired used â59 Les Pauls at Selmerâs, and several other acquisitions logged in the history of rock also took place in this popular west-end shop.)
Throughout the early days of the Stones, the Les Paul was one of Richardsâs most prominent guitars. The Best-known photos of the era show him playing it on a Ready Steady Go! TV-show performance in Britain in â64, and he also played it on a tour of the US that same year, when it popped up during the Stonesâs performance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Early Rolling Stones hits purportedly recorded with the Les Paul include âSatisfaction,â âGet Off My Cloud,â âLetâs Spend the Night Together,â and âLittle Red Rooster.â As seen in color photos from the time, just five years after it left the factory it was already faded to a deep amber burst with a little iced-tea shading around the body edges. While still in Richardsâs possession, the Bigsby âBurst was also purportedly loaned to Jimmy Page for some studio sessions, and was then loaned to Eric Clapton for use with Cream at the â66 Windsor Jazz & Blues Festival. - Gibson

#AMGearstories: Travis Stever of LS Dunes and Coheed & Cambria talks about his Gibson Les Paul
AltomusicNY: In this episode of #AMgearstories we chat with our pal Travis Stever from the bands LS Dunes and Coheed & Cambria. Travis is an old friend of Alto Music and we were excited to catch up with him and his 2001 Gibson Les Paul Standard!
(YouTube | August 4, 2023)
Transcript under the cut
Travis: Hey, I'm Travis Stever, I play guitar in the bands L.S. Dunes, Coheed and Cambria, and whatever the hell else I can get involved in. I'm here at Irving Plaza this evening, getting prepared to play with L.S. Dunes, and Alto Music was nice enough to ask me to tell a gear story. Alto Music, which was very important in my life, growing up in Rockland County, New York, and also living in Orange County, New York. Alto was a go-to for me and Claudio Sanchez, actually, who is the singer and guitar player in the other band I'm in, Coheed and Cambria. We would, like, countless amounts of times, we would go to Middletown, when we lived up there, for all gear needed for recording with Coheed, and also when we were young tikes, just with dreams of performing, we would go to the one in Airmont, in Rockland, which sadly is gone, because I live in Rockland again now, and I hope, someday, they open another. But, today I'm going to do a little rig rundown, I chose a Les Paul Standard, 2001, that I actually bought at the beginning of first touring with Coheed and Cambria. We had done some Midwest runs, we had been all over the East Coast but, right before we did our full U.S. tour, Claudio Sanchez and I decided to treat ourselves, finally, to the nicest guitars that we could afford at that point in our lives, and I picked this Les Paul Standard, and it has been my go-to, it has been on probably every Coheed record, is what I primarily used on most of the L.S. Dunes album, Past Lives. I just used it on the two songs from our upcoming 7'', Benadryl Subreddit, is a song that was released already, and another song, Old Wounds, I used this guitar on both songs. I have two favorite guitars, they're both Les Pauls, the other one was a guitar I received from Gibson and it's a gold top traditional, and I received it from Gibson, because I had a custom black beauty with a key work created for me, and I got artist price, and they said, "we'll also throw in another guitar for you, because you're doing this", and, you know, paying artist price, and it was really, really nice of them. And they happen to give me this gold top traditional, that is my other favorite guitar. So, now when I travel with Coheed, I always have my traditional gold top, and when I travel with Dunes, I always have my tobacco burst Les Paul, always with the bigsby. And, that way, when I'm with either band, I have my favorite Les Paul. Basically, the story goes, this has followed me on tour since 2001, and that's my story, and I'm sticking with it.

Just posted a Bigsby Model Lap Steel Hand Made By P.A. Bigsby in Downey California in 1943! Original black hard shell case. - Read more about it by clicking on the link in our profile. - Despite its unassuming appearance this is one of the most interesting and historically important pieces we have handled, the first musical instrument ever made by Paul "P.A" Bigsby. Bigsby is most remembered now for his namesake vibrato tailpiece, but the former motorcycle builder created the first modern solidbody electric guitar for Merle Travis in 1948, greatly influenced Les Paul and Leo Fender and essentially invented the modern pedal steel. He eschewed mass production, crafting his exceptional instruments one ty a time one at a time in a small backyard shop in the Los Angeles suburb of Downey. - - - - #paulbigsby #paulbigsbyguitars #bigsbyguitar #rareguitar #steelguitar #steelguitarlove #pabigsby #lapsteel #lapsteelguitar (at Retrofret Vintage Guitars) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpA7QCLuUzq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I got inspired to make a cosmetic change on my Les Paul, tonight.
The tailpiece is from an Ibanez AF-55, that was traded out for a Bigsby.
