The Legend of Bahirji-Naik: Siege of Panhala (Book II) - A Gripping Tale of Maratha Swarajya and Guerilla Warfare"
In the second installment of "The Legend of Bahirji-Naik" series, the author takes readers on a captivating journey into the heart of Maratha Swarajya in 1665. The book, titled "Siege of Panhala," continues the saga of the fledgling Maratha nation, facing dire circumstances with the Mughal army led by Dilerkhan and the Rajput Commander Mirza Raje Jaysingh laying siege to the Fort of Purandar. This gripping narrative explores the wisdom of Raje Shivaji and the audacious plan to escape the encirclement, reminiscent of an earlier daring escape from Panhalgad Fort.
𝐀 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞
One of the standout aspects of this book is its vivid depiction of guerilla warfare. The narrative offers readers a front-row seat to the thrilling events of Shivaji Raje's escape to Vishalgad and the subsequent Battle of Umberkhind. These episodes are brought to life through the eyes of Shivaji Raje's renowned Guptachars or intelligence team, Bahirji-Naik. The daring escapade and the subsequent military engagement serve as a testament to the ingenuity and bravery displayed in the face of overwhelming odds. The author's ability to convey the tension, strategy, and action of these events is commendable.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐫
While battles on the battlefield are prominent in the narrative, the book also underscores that not all battles are fought through combat. Diplomacy plays a crucial role in the story, as demonstrated by the Treaty of Purandar, which brings temporary peace but at a cost. The narrative skillfully navigates the complexities of diplomacy, demonstrating that peace often comes with its own set of challenges.
𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢
A significant portion of the book revolves around the formidable task of safeguarding Shivaji Raje during his visit to the Mughal capital, Agra, and ensuring his safe return. This mission presents the Guptachars with a perilous endeavor, and their efforts to protect their king in the lion's den make for a riveting and suspenseful subplot.
𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲
The author excels in character development, bringing historical figures to life with depth and authenticity. The portrayal of Shivaji Raje and the Guptachars is particularly noteworthy, making them relatable and multi-dimensional. The historical accuracy and attention to detail in depicting the events and customs of the time period add depth and richness to the narrative.
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
"The Legend of Bahirji-Naik: Siege of Panhala (Book II)" is a captivating historical novel that transports readers to a pivotal moment in Maratha history. The narrative is a masterful blend of action, strategy, diplomacy, and character-driven storytelling. It vividly illustrates the audacity and courage of the Guptachars and their unwavering commitment to the Maratha cause. The book's portrayal of guerilla warfare, diplomatic negotiations, and the challenges of safeguarding a nation's leader is both engaging and educational. For readers with an interest in historical fiction, this book offers a thrilling and immersive experience that sheds light on a lesser-known chapter of Indian history.
