11 November 1941 | On a day celebrated in Poland as the Independence Day, the first execution by a shot in the back of the head at a close range using a small-calibre silent gun took place in the German Nazi Auschwitz concentration camp.
It was done in the courtyard of Block 11, at the execution wall, also called “the Death Wall”. The condemned prisoners were led to the wall one by one, naked, with their hands tied behind. Before the execution, each of them had his camp number written on the chest. The camp commandant, the camp manager, and the camp doctor were present. The execution was performed by Rapportführer Gerhard Palitzsch.
On that day, the Germans shot most probably 76 people: 27 prisoners who were kept in the cells of Block 11 for different reasons and arrested there between October 10 and November 2, and 49 prisoners called from the camp by the Political Department – camp Gestapo.
On their death certificates it said: ‘Erschiessung wegen Widerstand gegen die Staatsgewalt’ (shot because of resistance activity against the state authority).
One of the executed was a sculptor and reserve lieutenant Tadeusz Lech. Captain Witold Pilecki mentioned him in his report written in 1945: „In the morning of November 11, 1941, colleague 42 approached me, and said: ‘I had a weird dream, I feel that they will blow me away today. Maybe it is a trifle, and yet, if nothing else, it makes me happy that I’ll die on November 11.’ Half an hour later his number was read out among others at the morning roll-call. He bid me a heartfelt farewell and asked me to tell his mother that he had died in good spirits.”
On the day of the 106th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence, deputy director of the Auschwitz Memorial Rafał Pióro, together with the president of Oświęcim - Miasto Pokoju - City of Peace Janusz Chwierut commemorated the victims of the German Nazi camp Auschwitz at the yard of Block 11.

Noch 31 Tage bis Weihnachten
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2e93c0454caf922a735a326513f9bcd5/18a712141f2c4ae4-88/s540x810/a6716433f938bc16f9f3f597839c472ff5b8293b.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b29c54c3f96db1958b1f8a5dec93cf87/18a712141f2c4ae4-dc/s540x810/175d2871eb23654bed40c0c58d686c00d4949192.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5aa786e46b9178873c975b3d4c35f85f/18a712141f2c4ae4-e6/s540x810/0fa40d922b8acc96e77671890a25a6f8f3d32af9.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0ef6b51cd0edb9587ebec7b0c6682c10/18a712141f2c4ae4-59/s540x810/3082ed1200e387e4872ce5a93af5712fa7f7d45e.jpg)

Pass the happy! 🌻🌈 When you receive this, list 5 things that make you happy and send this to the last ten people in the notifications.
studying and in general learning new pieces of information (even when they are trivial) about topics i care about
sharing my days, thoughts, concerns, emotions with my closest friends, even when it's a serious conversation and even if it's just us laughing at a stupid meme
having a little period of time during my day to take a deep breath and concentrate on what i am writing, thinking about actions, dialogues, personality traits for my characters and chapters
finishing studying, getting up and stretching myself to go to my room's window and see a chilly weather outside, maybe with a bit of rain, maybe some soothing clouds are still enough
reading, discovering stories pages after pages, hating and loving books and their characters, thinking about what those pages left me and (when i know i love the writing style) just enjoy the flow and maybe be a little envious because oh how i wish i had such a way with words
#oh thank you anon; it's relaxing to actually take some time to recall the simple things you love when your life becomes too mechanic#the piece of information of today concerns the ss gerhard palitzsch (in case someone was very interested in the first bullet point)#replies#anon

Józef Kowalski was a Polish Roman Catholic priest killed at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. He was beatified in Warsaw on June 13, 1999.
Kowalski was sent to Auschwitz concentration camp on June 26, 1941. There, he ministered secretly to his fellow prisoners in Block 25, and attempted to strengthen their will to survive day-to-day life in the camp. He absolved condemned victims, usually in secret, but at least once in front of everyone at the moment of mass execution. He was known at Auschwitz simply as Father Józef. At one roll call, he was ordered by Schutzstaffel Gerhard Palitzsch to trample upon his rosary when he was discovered with it. Kowalski refused. As punishment, he was assigned to a penal company. In his last letter to his parents, Józef wrote,
Do not worry about me; I am in God's hands. I want to assure you that I feel His help at every step. Despite the present situation, I am happy and completely at peace.
On July 3, 1942, he was mocked, ridiculed and severely beaten by the guards for being a priest. The same night, his oppressors pulled him out of his barracks, gravely beat him outside and possibly drowned him. Kowalski's body was found the next day and burned with others. He was 31 years of age.
Poles began to venerate his memory after World War II. Pope John Paul II had known Father Kowalski personally before the war, when Kowalski lived and served with the Parish of St. Stanisław Kostka in Dębniki, Kraków. During one of his return visits to Poland, John Paul II beatified Kowalski in Warsaw at a ceremonial three-hour mass of June 13, 1999, in front of 600,000 people.
