Cursed treasure @ Padmanbhaswamy Temple

Believe it or not, but cursed treasure is for real. The history of the temple can be traced from 5th century BC. The temple is situated in Tiruvananthpuram , Kerala, India. It is devoted to lord Vishnu.

Architecture:

The temple is made with both Dravidian and Kerala style of architecture. The temple is among 108 vishnu temples or divyadesams.

Temple also known as Anantha who is the one reclining on Anathana serpent. Therefore, Thiruvananthapuram means the land of Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy.

The cursed treasure:

The temple unlike other temples in India is controlled by the Royal Family of Travancore.

Supreme court made a committee of five members to audit the property and assets of the temple. In 2011, it was made public that treasure in Padmanabhaswamy temple is worth INR 1,00,000 Crore ( 13.5 billion USD). The said treasure was found in six underground vaults running from A ro F.

However, Vault B is so heavily protected that there are two antechambers that lead to the main vault. The carvings of a serpent and a Yakshi on the door of the vault were done as a warning to keep out. 

It is said that Vault B was sealed to protect the Padmanabhaswamy Temple treasure with the Naga Paasam mantras chanted by the highest religious heads during the time of King Marthanda Varma. And the curse can only be lifted only with the help of one of the highest priests.

Story behind the Curse:

In 1930, some miscreants were trying to break into Vault B who were attacked by a swarm of snakes out of nowhere.

The petitioner who asked supreme court to order the unveiling of the vaults died an untimely death one month after the vault was opened.

Another interesting story states that the temple priests tried unlocking the door over a hundred years ago so they could use the treasure to save the country from the ongoing famine at the time. But as they got closer, they could hear gushing waves behind the door. Legend has it that it is connected to the Arabian Sea!
