How to Install a PVC Curtain
Installing a PVC curtain can greatly enhance the functionality and efficiency of any industrial space. Whether you are aiming to control temperature, reduce noise, or prevent contamination, PVC strip curtains are a versatile solution.
This blog will walk you through the steps to install a PVC curtain, from preparation to completion. Additionally, we will highlight the benefits of using PVC Strip curtains and introduce you to a leading provider of high-quality PVC curtains for industrial settings.
PVC strip curtains are a practical addition to any industrial environment, and installing them is a straightforward process that can be completed with basic tools and a bit of planning.
What You Will Need
Before starting the installation, gather the necessary tools and materials:
PVC strips (pre-cut to the required length)
Mounting bracket (rail or track system)
Fasteners (screws, bolts, or rivets)
Measuring tape
Level
Drill
Screwdriver or wrench
Ladder or step stool
Safety gear (gloves, safety glasses)
Having all these items ready will ensure a smooth installation process without unnecessary interruptions.
Measuring the Installation Area
Accurate measurement is crucial for the effective installation of PVC curtains. Follow these steps to measure the area:
Measure the Width: Use a measuring tape to determine the width of the doorway or area where the curtains will be installed. This will dictate the length of the mounting bracket and the number of PVC strips needed.
Measure the Height: Measure the height from the top of the doorway to the floor. This will determine the length of each PVC strip. Ensure the strips are long enough to reach just above the floor without dragging.
Consider the Overlap: Decide on the amount of overlap for the strips. A common overlap is 50%, meaning each strip covers half of the next strip. This ensures an effective barrier.
Record these measurements to ensure you order the correct size and quantity of PVC strips and mounting hardware.
Choosing the Right PVC Strips
PVC strips come in various thicknesses, widths, and colours, each suited to different applications. Consider the following factors when choosing your strips:
Thickness: Thicker strips (e.g., 2mm or 3mm) are more durable and suitable for high-traffic areas. Thinner strips (e.g., 1mm) are ideal for light-duty applications.
Width: Wider strips (e.g., 300mm) offer better coverage and are suitable for larger openings, while narrower strips (e.g., 200mm) are better for smaller areas.
Colour: Clear strips provide visibility, making them ideal for general use. Coloured strips can be used for specific applications, such as blue for food areas or red for welding zones.
Choosing the right type of PVC strips ensures that your curtains perform optimally for their intended use.
Preparing the Mounting Hardware
The mounting hardware typically consists of a rail or track system that holds the PVC strips. Here’s how to prepare it:
Inspect the Hardware: Ensure that all parts of the mounting bracket are present and in good condition. This includes the rail, hooks, and fasteners.
Align the Bracket: Hold the bracket up to the installation area to ensure it fits correctly. Use a level to make sure it is straight.
Mark the Drill Holes: Mark the locations where you will drill holes for the fasteners. Make sure these marks are evenly spaced and aligned with the mounting bracket holes.
Proper preparation of the mounting hardware is essential for a secure and stable installation.
Installing the Mounting Bracket
With your measurements and markings in place, you can now install the mounting bracket:
Drill the Holes: Using a drill, make holes at the marked locations. Ensure the holes are deep enough to securely hold the fasteners.
Attach the Bracket: Align the mounting bracket with the drilled holes and attach it using screws, bolts, or rivets. Make sure it is securely fastened and level.
Double-Check Alignment: Once installed, double-check that the bracket is level and securely attached. This will ensure the PVC strips hang correctly.
Installing the mounting bracket correctly is crucial for the stability and functionality of the PVC curtain.
Attaching the PVC Strips
With the mounting bracket securely in place, you can begin attaching the PVC strips:
Start from One End: Begin at one end of the mounting bracket and attach the first PVC strip. Most strips come with pre-punched holes or hooks for easy attachment.
Ensure Proper Overlap: Attach the next strip, ensuring it overlaps the previous strip by the desired amount (typically 50%). This overlap creates an effective barrier.
Continue Across the Bracket: Continue attaching strips along the entire length of the bracket, maintaining consistent overlap. Ensure each strip is securely attached and hangs straight.
Attaching the PVC strips properly ensures they provide an effective barrier and function as intended.
Ensuring Proper Overlap
Proper overlap of the PVC strips is essential for the curtain’s effectiveness:
Check the Overlap: After attaching the strips, check that each strip overlaps the next by the correct amount. This overlap helps maintain the barrier’s integrity.
Adjust as Needed: If any strips are not overlapping correctly, adjust them by loosening the attachment and repositioning the strip.
Test the Barrier: Walk through the curtain to ensure it moves easily and the strips return to their original position, maintaining the barrier.
Proper overlap ensures that the PVC curtain effectively controls temperature, noise, and contaminants.
Final Adjustments and Inspection
Once all the strips are attached, make any final adjustments:
Check Alignment: Ensure all strips are aligned correctly and hang straight. Adjust as necessary to maintain a neat appearance.
Test Functionality: Open and close the curtain several times to ensure it functions smoothly and the strips return to their original position.
Inspect for Gaps: Look for any gaps or misalignments that could compromise the barrier. Adjust or replace strips as needed.
A thorough final inspection ensures that the PVC curtain is installed correctly and ready for use.
Maintenance Tips
Regular maintenance will keep your PVC curtains in top condition:
Clean Regularly: Wipe down the strips with a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove dust and dirt. This prevents build-up and maintains clarity.
Inspect for Damage: Regularly check the strips for signs of wear, such as tears or scratches. Replace damaged strips promptly to maintain the barrier’s effectiveness.
Check Fasteners: Ensure that the mounting hardware remains securely fastened. Tighten any loose screws or bolts as needed.
Following these maintenance tips will extend the lifespan of your PVC curtains and ensure they continue to function effectively.
Safety Tips
When installing and using PVC curtains, consider the following safety tips:
Use Non-Toxic Materials: Ensure the PVC strips are made from non-toxic materials, especially in environments where they may come into direct contact with food or people.
Avoid Tripping Hazards: Install the strips so that they do not drag on the floor, which can create tripping hazards.
Wear Safety Gear: During installation, wear safety gear such as gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself from injury.
Adhering to these safety considerations will help prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.

Everything you need to know about the Dubai
Strip curtains made of PVC have become an integral part of industrial and production halls. No wonder, after all, PVC strips are inexpensive, flexible, and can be replaced at any time. To make it easier for you to decide on a PVC Curtain Dubai, you can find out everything you need to know about our PVC slats in our guide. We will show you in which areas PVC curtains are used & what advantages they offer. We will also introduce you to our different types of slats and explain how to install them.
PVC Strip Curtain: Applications and Advantages
Slat curtains are used in many areas: production hall, warehouse, workshop, stable (e.g. horse stable or open stable), cold store/cold room, butcher's shops, food companies, gastronomy, laboratory, etc. A distinction can be made between two possible uses: for the entrance/exit area or as a room partition or room divider.
Thermal insulation
At entrances, exits, or passages, the PVC strips protect against cold, draughts, dust, and insects. Due to the good thermal insulation, you can reduce operating costs with a PVC strip curtain. Heat cannot escape in winter, which in turn reduces heating costs. A strip curtain PVC is a good investment that will pay for itself quickly!
Soundproofing
However, that's not all, because an industrial slat curtain also offers good and inexpensive sound insulation. In this way, you can prevent noise from escaping to the outside or seal off your company premises from outside noise. As a separator during welding and grinding work, the PVC belts also offer protection against flying sparks. With a PVC Curtain Dubai, you can improve productivity and the working atmosphere and help your employees feel more comfortable.
Flexible Passage
A PVC slat curtain contributes to time savings in logistics compared to doors and gates. Forklifts, carts, and other vehicles can easily pass through the PVC curtain transparently. Since the PVC strip curtain is transparent, you also increase safety, as it is possible to see who is behind the curtain. It is how you create a safe working environment!
Agriculture
In farms, e.g. in horse, cow, or sheep stables, slat curtains are also often used. Especially on stall or stable doors also paddock exits, plastic slats are often found. They protect your animals from wind, cold, and rain in winter and ensure that annoying flies or other insects cannot penetrate in summer. With a transparent foil curtain, you can easily increase comfort. The PVC strip curtain can also be used in the private sector, e.g. for the dog house, the turtle enclosure, or the terrace.
You can buy these PVC slats from us!
In the Floor Center shop, you will find PVC by the meter in various designs. In addition to classic slats made of transparent PVC in widths of 20 and 30 cm, we also offer ribbed slats as well as red & yellow PVC strips. A ribbed PVC strip curtain has the advantage that vehicles such as forklifts & the like do not touch the curtain when driving through, but only the lines on the belt. As a result, the PVC belts wear out less quickly, are transparent for longer, and do not need to be replaced as often as transparent PVC strips.
Our yellow soft PVC slats have a lemon scent and have a deterrent effect on insects. Therefore, they are perfect for livestock and horse stables. Red PVC strips can be used as warning strips or to mark certain areas.
You can buy the slats individually or as PVC by the meter. Using a cutter, you can cut the strips to your liking. Our PVC slats on rolls meet the highest quality standards. The slat has rounded edges, is UV-stabilized, and is made in Germany. Benefit from a high-quality PVC strip curtain at a low price!
Mounting the fastening strip & choosing the right overlap
You can also find the matching fastening strip in our shop. The hook strip can be attached to the wall or ceiling with a drill. Then place the slat between the mounting plates, drill holes through, and fasten them with the screws and nuts supplied. Now all you have to do is hook the slats into the hook strip!
However, you need to choose an overlap in doing so. You can hang the PVC strips next to each other or choose an overlap. As a general rule, the greater the overlap, the higher the insulating effect. However, keep in mind that the contact resistance also increases. In case of high wind loads, you should hang the slat curtain offset with 1 or 2 hooks overlapping.
Benefit from our service!
We cut the PVC by the metre for you in our manufactory; your order will be with you within 2-3 days. Enjoy a worry-free shopping experience and benefit from a practical strip PVC Curtain Dubai, whether for your business or the private sector!

Cody's characters and y/n taking a trip to an "adult store"?? 😉💋
I didn’t want to bore you with every stage of Michael in this one but I’ll happily fill them all in another time if you like? Thank you anon! 😉
Outpost!Michael’s suave attempt at indifference as you browse may have you fooled at first, but his silent observation as you examine harnesses is definitely hiding something. He’s partial to distracting you with suspenders to try on while he slopes off to the register and buys something behind your back. Once you’ve made it home and inevitably stripped each other up against the bedroom door, Michael lays you down, slips a blindfold over your head and moans greedily. “Tell me, darling, can you guess what I bought today?” You shake your head innocently, anticipation hitching your breath in your throat. His wide hands gently nudge your legs apart, one resting at your inner thigh as he reaches for the bedside table. Suddenly, a frantic buzzing sound fills the room and your back instinctively arches toward him. “I think you can guess now, kitten.”
Xavier is like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to adult stores. No inhibitions, practically dragging you through the doors and grabbing at everything on the shelves in wide-eyed wonder. “Babe, come see this,” he calls over to you, holding a massive purple dildo aloft with both hands. “Reckon you could take this?” His broad smile is practically blinding, his brows cocked curiously. “Xav, you know I struggle taking you at the best of times.” His eyes glaze over for a moment, flashbacks passing through his vision at lightning speed as he hooks an arm around your neck and pulls you in for a playful kiss. “Good point, we’ll really have to stretch you out for this one.”
You’ll have to catch Jim unawares if you want him anywhere near an adult store. From the second you drag him through the doors, he’s pulling his hood up and suddenly develops hunched shoulders. “The guys will never let me live this down if they see me in here,” he whispers as his nervous gaze darts back to the door. His concerns soon fly out the window when he spots the lingerie section, rediscovering his puppy dog eyes as you’re calmly browsing the babydolls. Holding up a particularly slinky black lace number in his direction with a cheeky grin, Jim clears his throat and his eyes widen so hard they could pop out of his skull. “Ahem… yeah, that should—that would be… fuck it, I’m buying it for you.”
Of course, Duncan knows all the best places in town, setting up a private session at an exclusive designer store, ensuring you have the whole place to yourselves to browse without the prying eyes of the media. You slide into the dressing room with an armful of negligees and he perches impatiently in the armchair beside the curtain. Twiddling his thumbs, folding his arms, idly checking his phone, shifting his feet — nothing suitably distracts him from whatever you’re wearing behind that partition. An impatient sigh tumbles from his tongue and he leaps to his feet, ripping the curtain to one side and scooping your half-dressed form into his arms, carefully pressing you against the wall before laying waste to his own belt. “Sorry baby, I really couldn’t wait any fucking longer.”
The Richard we know in the clinic is shy and retiring, but in the throes of a long term relationship, his nerves have departed completely. In fact, he’s the one pulling you into the adult store to show you something he heard about from another clinic resident. Holding an array of racy numbers up against your chest with a discerning look like some kind of judge on Next Top Model, he quietly ponders his selections while he sends you to find three new pairs of handcuffs. Apparently, one’s not enough to hold you down these days, you always manage to talk your way out of them. When you return with the requested trio of restraints in hand, he smiles warmly and thrusts a pile of leather and lace into your arms. “We’re gonna be needing all these baby girl,” he mutters into your ear. “Not that you’ll be wearing them for long.”
David is the kind of partner you need for a light-hearted trip to the adult store. Always down for a laugh, you’ll find him holding up bras against his shirt with a coy grin and a sassy quirked hip. Discovering a particularly skimpy thong, he’ll measure them against himself with a hearty chuckle — “Does my butt look big in this?” It’s all fun and games until he spots you eyeing up a peephole bra and matching panties, leaving David swallowing thickly and eyes bulging from his head. “Try it on for me, please?” He asks politely, guiding you to the changing room. By the time you call him in to see you, he swings through the curtain wearing striking leather crotchless chaps and a PVC police hat, hands on his hips like one of the Village People. “It’s only fair I try something out too!”
Let’s be honest - Jerome IS the adult store. The second your sex life with the Travelling Salesman becomes more heated (which realistically takes a few minutes), he reaches under the bed and produces a mysterious leather suitcase that opens up into the most extensive collection of sex toys and fetish gear you’ve ever seen. Nestled in amongst all the chains, plugs and PVC, a golden curved vibrator practically sings your name and Jerome clocks your look of sheer amazement, swiftly followed by an involuntary jerk of your hips. “Looks like someone’s interested,” he smirks proudly, pressing a firm palm on your chest to lay you down. “Let me help you with that, baby.”

京個展~子宮で視る脳排泄~
kyo’s solo exhibition ~Observation of the brain excretion in the uterus~ 2018.05.09-19 report
The gallery LE DECO is located a few minute walk from Shibuya station so it didn’t take long to get there (only if you use the right exit though 😂). But on the first day we got quite bad weather, so it was a relief when staff let us in. On the side note, kudos to the staff member who had to announce ‘people who came to see [Observing of the brain excretion in the uterus] please line up to use the elevator’ over and over. He definitely made passersby do a double take hearing the event name 😂
The entrance floor - 6F
Once in the building we were told to wait for the start of the time slot. There was a screen with a projector showing the live footage from DIR EN GREY mode of VULGAR tour and sukekiyo, followed by the short interview (it will get a separate post). I actually didn’t notice it at first, but on the second day I went with a friend who is Toshiya’s fan and she pointed out that DIR’s footage was a perfect 'Kyo’s angle’ - the most you could see of other nembers was Toshiya’s or Shinya’s arm 😂 At some shows that’s exactly what I see… sukekiyo’s footage was from Kyo’s birthday show at Mynavi Akasaka BLITZ, I really hope it will be released at some point! I really enjoyed seeing this performance again. *On the 13th dir mode of kisou*On the 15th there was footage from sukekiyo’s 2015 The Unified Field tour instead of DIR’s. *on the 16th there was DIR footage from the mode of TMOAB.*on the 19th VULGAR again (inside joke - and we couldn’t become one).
The stamps for goshuin books were also located on this floor and some people used them when we were waiting (and no one was actually checking if you used a goshuin book or not). There were two designs, Zemeckises one with Hui and Kyo’s picture drawn by Junji Ito.
When it was finally time for the time slot to start staff started to call people one by one. On the first day people were surprised as they didn’t deduct that the 1st slot numbers start from 101, but staff quickly changed the way of calling from number 1 to 101 ;) Over the number 50 they changed to calling by 5s. Upon ticket check we received a small water bottle with a label with a event logo and a silver plastic bag. When checking the bag later I saw it had 'Kyo’s mask’ and a memorial ticket inside. Each mask had a small curse omikuji glued on the back, there were five kinds (collected all to be happily cursed!😍):
◆平等とは平等で非ず・ equality is never truly equal ◆己を決めるのは己のみ・only I decide about myself ◆時間は必ず貴方を良くも悪くも変えてくれる・the time will always change you, be it for better or worse ◆噴き出す感情はそのままで良い、より人間らしく・it’s fine to just let strong feelings out, it’s more human ◆状況を変えられないのではなく変えないだけ・it’s not that one cannot change the situation one just don’t And from this point we used stairs to move between floors.
The Zemeckises floor - 5F
This floor entrance greeted us with a dark red curtain, The Zemeckises sign over it. On the second day they added draped brown curtain with decorative tassels over the plain red one (was it one of the things that didn’t arrive on time? *on the 15th I noticed there were two additional panels! (CHAOS one and 'cute guy’ one)). Inside we could enjoy various panels with what I’m guessing were scenes from the upcoming picture book. It was so lovely to see Hui so much! One of them had Hui-chan standing in front of the bridge leading to a small street, on the buildings and shop signs we could see sukekiyo name and their various songs titles.
It was also nice to see the set of 4 TVs previously used at Madaraningen shops and sukekiyo shows. This time they played three Zemeckises videos in the loop. First one that was used to promote VITIUM (introducing family living in the dark forest), Second was the promotion of PERSUASIO - Mama murders someone, Penyu is being persuaded he should bear darker intentions towards humans and older bro introducing sukekiyo as their footage was on TV Third had all family members saying what they are missing: Big bro: DIR音源がない Raimi: 心がない Mama: sukekiyoのライブがない Baby bro: ダブルチーズバーガーがない Papa: ママのご飯がない Penyu: お菓子がない Penyu held a book and walked through the forest, his whole family following him closely. He ended up on the ground, family jumped on him, there was a light flashing from his eyes and… cliffhanger 😂
I liked here how '3D-ish’ the panels were, for example there was a standing figure of family members in front of the panels creating a scene together. The figure of Mama who was sitting with Raimi even was sat on the chair in pieces so if you looked from the right angle it looked very good! There was also a proper figure of Papa with his eye lit up in red connected to the panel with dressed up Mama (it was in front of the TVs). I don’t want to explain panels too much, Kyo said in the interview that it was hard preparing this floor because the book is not out yet, but some of them were also used as the designs for goods.
The Shikkaku floor - 4F
It was absolutely brilliant ♥♥♥ From the first view - after going through the first black curtain with exhibition name on it, this exhibition entrance was done in the form of red PVC strip seethrough curtain and before entering a staff member handed each of us a torch. Because this floor was quite dark, there was enough light to walk around safely, but to be able to observe photo prints you had to use the torch. There was a white cloth draped from the ceiling, hanging loosely at some places, and there were some metal fixtures that were painted black, but overall the room was kept quite simple; all added to the atmosphere. With the industrial music in the background it created an incredible effect!
Photos were hanged in black wooden frames around the floor. I was really impressed with the time span that photos came from! (*confirmed by yahoo news that it took over 4 years) Shikkaku vol.2 will be a delight for our eyes and hearts. There were so many styles and ideas. The ones that really stood out to me was Kyo sitting in a seated venue (this one was moved to a lower spot on the wall on the second day, I don’t know why), black hat photoshoot and one with his hand on the first plan. And the ones near the dam. And the ones with the eye. And… they are all so good!😂
The really big surprise when going for the first time was noticing the 'faces wall’ that was around the corner. Interesting, morbid, fascinating, meaningful, shocking, so very much Kyo! Silicon casts of Kyo’s face were displayed in two ways. Four of them were hanging on huge hooks. One was pinned in a glass case like a butterfly. But the one that probably caught everyone’s attention the most was a plaster casting that was put in a rectangular dish filled with fake blood. Quite slimy and sticky fake blood. I don’t know if it was deliberate, but as a woman I couldn’t help thinking about the uterus in the exhibition title seeing the consistency and color of the fake blood… The dish had a sign 'ご自由にお触りください / please touch freely’ and. It felt so weird to touch the cast of his face, even more if you touched the blood. In the beginning of the 1st time slot the face was clean, but later people covered it with blood. It was absolutely fascinating to be able to see how it changed through the day - during the last time slot on the second day the silicon face casts on hooks had some bloody streaks as well and there were many 'spills’ around the dish. It was also fascinating to watch people’s reactions - so many didn’t like the slimy texture or got freaked out when discovered it was quite sticky. And compared to the previous exhibition’s box with a casting of the hand hid in slimy balls - there was no staff with wet tissues nearby ;) The 2nd time I visited I went straight for this floor when most people went for goods to have few minutes alone with it :3 *on the 15th I went for the 1st time slot and the fake blood was much more jelly like at first, but as people touched it and it got warmed up it got more sticky. Also the face in the dish of blood was cleaned but it stayed slightly pink in some places. *on the last day (the 19th) it was so jelly like you could take a chunk in your hand, it was still very fun to play with! 😁
There was one more point of interest on that floor. Kind of hidden behind the wall was a tiny tiny room, more of a box that had a short video footage with Kyo from the photobook cover photoshoot. It created quite a line on the first day. But on the second day the video footage was moved from the hidden box and displayed on the wall, the image was quite distorted because of the angle and the uneven wall. My guess is that Kyo wanted to avoid people queuing inside.
The merchandise floor - 3F
I simply followed the person in front of me first time I visited and they went to the goods floor first; it actually turned out to be a good choice as some items got sold out (I got the last black Junji Ito shirt that time), same in the next time slots - as soon as the word that some items are in quite limited quantities got out they started selling out faster. They had 3 tables - from the right - for ordering photobooks, picture books and reprints, for purchasing goods and for using capsule toy machines. I think the 'hottest commodities’ were Junji Ito’s collaboration t-shirt, capsule toys and plushies. And if you spent over 3000 yen (?) on The Zemeckises goods you received a cute clear bag as a present :3 I’m glad I got the goods I wanted at the first try as later I could enjoy the exhibition more freely. On the same floor there was also a huge panel with a photo of Kyo that we were allowed to take photo of (and with, if someone was so inclined ;)).
And an extra: Madaraningen POP UP SHOP - B1F
A nice accent when going down the stairs to the basement was the neon Madaraningen sign waiting for us at the bottom. As we entered there was a projector display and three panels with Kyo wearing various new items on the left. Turning right there were racks with clothes, some tables (with postcards and for placing orders). I only got postcards as I’ve already ordered some stuff after sukekiyo shows. There were two sets - one with 4 postcards (A) and one with 3 postcards plus a random 'kinda-polaroid’ of Kyo (B).

I made this for our kitchen door. For the past few years owing to stagnant rainwater collecting in neighbor’s emptied swimming pools and the like, we’ve experienced a lot of mosquitoes in our area. I’m sure everyone knows how annoying even a single mozzie can be – just as you’re about to drop off to sleep, your ears pick up that high-pitched buzzing drone… zzzzzzzzzzzzz…zzz…zzzzz as the little buggers circle, their little vampire capes flapping in their wake… Not much sleeping, but a lot of tossing and turning, itching and scratching going on, right?
At one point, we even took to sleeping with a fan on, even on colder nights because it made it harder for them to land on us – but of the most silly remedies I resorted to, was to sleep with the comforter up to my neck and a t-shirt wrapped around my head so they wouldn’t bite my exposed face and neck! It worked – but it was a sweaty business in summer! Grr!
I tried all sorts of commercial remedies, from ointments and balms, to ‘tips and tricks’ I found online. One detailed making mosquito traps from plastic cold drink bottles and filling them with a warm pungent concoction and leaving it around the areas where mosquitoes gathered – what a complete waste of time – the only thing they trapped was the time and effort it took to make them! A bug-zapper only served to slightly reduce their number in the back garden, while they still swarmed around and stealthily infiltrated our sanctum!
Frustration mounted! If I were to launch into a recollection of all the ways mozzies have driven me to distraction over the years, I’d be at it all week! I even built an elastic gun to shoot mosquitoes when they rested on light fixtures and ceilings. I got quite accurate with it too! This was not the right solution however. I needed peaceful sleep!
What I needed to do was to prevent them from entering the house – which is a lot harder than people realize! Keeping windows and doors permanently shut keeps them out – but also prevents fresh air flow. It’s also no use shutting them all at bed time and expecting to have a mosquito-free night – if they’re already flitting about inside your home, lurking in the nooks and crannies, just waiting for you to turn out the light!
I already detailed how to make mosquito netting frames for the inside of your windows in a previous article (view here) – so you need to do that in conjunction with giving attention to your doors. It’s no use if you mosquito-proof your doors and they can still get in through your windows or slightly-open fan-light!
In this project I used the pre-existing security gate on our kitchen door as the frame for the screen door. It’s plain, ordinary galvanized steel, with a sliding bolt and secured by a padlock. There was a fair gap around the sides of it all the way round – too small for burglars (a different type of bug entirely) – but wide enough for a mozzie to get through with a bus-load of her mates.
I started with covering the gate itself in mosquito netting. It’s prehaps worth mentioning at this point, that I’ve previously used a soft nylon type of mosquito netting for similar projects – and let me just say that if you have cats around, that’s a complete waste of money! Cats climb everything they can, and ours tore holes in it that a big green beetle could easily fly through!
Instead, I bought a 2.1 meter roll of plastic mosquito netting from a local hardware store – the hard clear or white type, which was long and wide enough to overlap the gate on all sides, and secured it to the gate via clear or white plastic cable ties which I looped through the tiny holes and around the bars of the gate. Cat-claws (combined with their climbing weight) will still damage the plastic netting, but it is much more resilient. I didn’t put any around the main frame of square steel tubing, because I had a different plan for that.
I planned on enclosing the gaps between the gate frame and the door opening itself as well, and to this end, I cut a few lengths of aluminum plate I had lying around – but you could easily use pressboard or PVC if you have any of that lying around. I cut the plates to size and appropriate shape, and then drilled holes through them into the outside face of the tubing. Afterwards, I secured them to the frame using pop-rivets with tie netting secured between the plate and frame.
I did this all the way round the gate, except the hinge side, as this would have caused clearance problems while opening or closing the gate. Instead, I opted for the following solution: I let the longer side of the overhang of the extra netting be on that side, and wrapped it round towards the inside of the gate, and secured it to the inside face of the brickwork of the door opening itself with a few screws and wall-plugs. Hilti’s would do just as well.
I still wasn’t done yet though!
I used a few lengths of 2x2cm pine to make a light frame on the inside of the doorway – to fit just snugly behind the plates which surrounded the edge of the gate. It wasn’t necessary to add a strip on the hinge side, of course, as you can see in the photos. This gives a nice tight seal all the way round against any mozzies who figure they’re the Mosquito equivalent of Chuck Norris!
Voila – there you are – a nice anti-mosquito barrier that lets air through – but not mosquitoes!
I fitted a spring to keep the gate closed tight against the frame at all times, so it returns every time a human passes through.
But wait – we’ve forgotten something, haven’t we? What about cats? Erm. Well.
Since we didn’t want to have to leave the gate open, or to open it for cats to move in and out every few minutes while they decided where they wanted to be, I decided to include an opening through the gate and netting at the bottom matching the position of the kitty-door in the actual kitchen door.
This creates a gap in this otherwise brilliant screen-door, not so? Well, maybe. But what I did was to attach a curtain to the opening made from a piece of chiffon material, fitted with a short piece of curtain stretch. It hooks on and hooks off for washing – and I made two of them 😉
There was no need to put the wider netting I used for the cats on the inside of the window screens in this case, since the cats have access to both sides of the gate anyway, and besides, none of them ever seemed interested in climbing this gate.
The cats pass through the opening and the curtain keeps the opening nicely closed behind them. In fact, in the last year or so since I completed this project, we’ve had no more mozzies intruding inside the house and we’ve all enjoyed irritation-free sleep – making zzzz noises of our own!
In closing, I need to mention that an interesting side-benefit of this netting on gates and windows is that it negates the need for lace curtains. People can’t see inside, and the wind doesn’t blow it around – and it also keeps leaves and small debris from blowing in.
Photos below – enjoy!

Agilenano - News: How to Make a Mosquito Net
A mosquito net refers to a canopy that hangs over your bed to keep mosquitos and other pests from biting you while you sleep. They’re particularly helpful if you live in a warmer climate or you enjoy keeping your windows open at night. While mosquito nets are not particularly expensive, you can make your net for less than $20 or so. If you can’t hang a net from your ceiling, you can easily build a simple frame for your net with PVC pipes and drape uncut mosquito netting over it.
[Edit]Steps
[Edit]Measuring for Netting and Rods
Measure the length and width of your bed. Grab a measuring tape and measure the length and width of your bed and frame. Jot down the length and width. The net you buy must hang at least past the edges of the frame for maximum protection, so add to each measurement to find the size of the netting you need.[1]
If parts of the net hang directly against the frame, bugs may bite you through the net if you roll against it in your sleep.
The ring-style canopy nets you may have seen are not as effective as the rectangular nets that cover each side evenly. These ring canopies tend to hang unevenly and are fairly distracting when you’re trying to sleep.
Buy a mosquito netting that extends a little past the sides of your bed. Go online and find a mosquito net that’s at least bigger than your bed on each side. Make sure that the mosquito net has sleeves for mounting it on a frame. Most nets have sleeves, but just double-check to make sure you aren’t buying uncut fabric.[2]
The height doesn’t matter unless you have a vaulted ceiling or a loft-style home. The netting always comes with plenty of height to work with.
You cannot effectively sew a mosquito net on your own. The holes need to be incredibly small and the fabric has to be extremely breathable. Plus, premade mosquito netting is relatively inexpensive.
You can still use uncut fabric by hanging it over the frame you’re going to assemble, but you’ll need to reposition the fabric by hand whenever it slides to one side or another.
Mosquito netting is pretty cheap. Expect to spend $5-15 on the netting itself.
Pick up some thin curtain rods and joints to make the frame. Buy 2 curtain rods that match the lengths of your bed and pick up 2 curtain rods that match the width of your bed. In addition, buy 4 elbow joints that match the width of your curtain rod, preferably from the same company that made your rods, to connect them together.[3]
The thickness of the rods doesn’t matter so long as they fit in the sleeve openings on the net. Generally, rods that are thick are perfect for this. The netting isn’t very heavy, so you don’t need a ton of support.
If you can’t find curtain rods that match the dimensions you need, buy some longer curtain rods and cut them to size with a handsaw. Measure each length or width you need and mark the cuts off with a permanent marker. Gently cut each junction at the spots you mark.[4]
[Edit]Installing the Hooks
Find 4 studs on the ceiling above the corners of your bed. To find a stud, turn a stud finder on and run it over your ceiling above each corner. When it beeps, mark the spot with a small pencil mark. Alternatively, you can knock on the drywall with your knuckle. Studs will sound firm and hard, while hollow drywall will echo a little bit.[5]
You do not need to measure the distance between your hooks. You’re going to hang the frame from wires or cords and the frame doesn’t need to hang directly under the hooks for this to work. So long as they’re within of the corner, you’ll be fine.
Drill 4 pilot holes in the studs and twist your screw hooks in. Get 4 screw hooks and grab a pilot drill bit that’s slightly thinner than the width of your screw hooks. Insert the pilot drill bit into a drill and bore a hole for each hook in the ceiling, just outside the corners of your bed. Place each hole in a stud to keep the frame from ripping the drywall out. Then, twist the screw hooks into the holes you drilled.[6]
Hang some fishing line or cord around each hook to hang your frame. You can hang your frame with heavy-duty fishing line, or any type of cord. Cut off a length of fishing line or cord and drape a section over each hook you’ve drilled into the ceiling.[7]
The exact length of the cord or line doesn’t matter. You’re going to cut the excess off later, but the more cord or fishing line you have to work with, the better.
Tie a loop off at the end of the line or cord and slide the other end through. At one end of each length of line or cord, create a small loop and wrap the end of the working end through it. Tie a tight, large knot at the end you slid through the loop and pull the loop tight. The knot will catch on the opening and leave you with a small loop. Let the fishing line or cords hang from your hooks.[8]
Just to clarify, you are not placing the loops you just made on the hooks. You just need these hoops to hang your frame and adjust the length before tying it up.
[Edit]Assembling Your Frame
Spread the netting out on the bed to line the corners up with the hooks. Take your mosquito net and spread it out on top of your sheets. Adjust the corners of the top of the net to line up with the corners of your bed frame.[9]
Slide a long rod through the first sleeve on the side of the net. Grab one of your longer rods and feed it through the sleeve on a long side of the net. Run the rod through all the way until it sticks out a little bit past the end of the net on each side.[10]
The sleeve for the mosquito net may be sequence of loops and it may be located on the inside or outside of the net.
If you find it hard to feed the rod through the sleeve, you can crumple the net up as you work the rod through to keep the net from catching on the end.
Grab a shorter rod and slide it through the sleeve on the shorter side. Grab one of your shorter curtain rods. Run it through the sleeve on the shorter side of the mosquito net. Feed each portion of the rod through the sleeve of the mosquito net until the ends stick out on either side.[11]
Connect the 2 rods using an elbow joint. Some elbow joints screw into the curtain rod, while others just slide into the hollow opening of the rod. Connect the first elbow joint to the end of the long rod where it meets the shorter rod. Then, connect the other end of the elbow joint to the shorter rod to connect the 2 pieces of the frame together.[12]
Repeat this process with the 2 remaining rods to finish the frame. Take your second longer curtain rod and feed it through the sleeve on the remaining length and connect the end to the shorter rod with a second elbow joint. Then, feed the last short rod through the remaining side. Use 2 elbow joints to connect the ends to the longer lengths on either side to finish assembling the frame.[13]
[Edit]Hanging the Net
Slide the line or cord around the first joint you’re hanging. Lift the first corner of the frame up a little and thread the cord or fishing line around the joint. If the sleeves are on the inside of the netting, there is a small corner where the fabric separates to hang the frame. Run the line or cord around the joint.[14]
Raise the corner until the base of the net rests gently on the ground. Slide the unknotted end of the fishing line or cord through the loop you made earlier. Then, pull the unknotted end to raise the corner up. Continue raising the frame until the bottom of the mosquito net rests gently against the ground.[15]
Tie the cord or line around the joint to secure it in place. Once the frame is raised to the height you prefer, wrap the unknotted string around itself and make a large knot at the base where it meets the loop you made. Clip the excess cord or fishing line off to finish hanging the first corner.[16]
You can also tie the cord or fishing line to the loop you made. It doesn’t really matter how you secure the line or cord.
Repeat this process with the remaining 3 joints to finish your net. Continue wrapping the line or cord around the joints one at a time. Raise each corner up until the corner is on the same level as the previous corner. Tie the fishing line or cord off and cut the excess off. You now have a perfectly secure mosquito net over your bed![17]
Some mosquito nets have a Velcro strip to let you get inside the net. If your net doesn’t, just lift the base up and slide underneath it.
[Edit]Warnings
Mosquito nets are flammable. Do not smoke in bed if you’re using a mosquito net and keep candles away from your bed.[18]
Before you go to bed, push the fabric out away from the bed. If you don’t, you may end up rolling against the net where the mosquitos can bite you.[19]

Garden Know-How: Extend Your Growing Season Dr. Mercola By Dr. Mercola No matter where you live, if you enjoy gardening and grow your own vegetables, herbs and other plants, you probably wish the season were longer. Who doesn't love picking luscious red tomatoes right off the vine, or finding an abundance of crisp, green cucumbers hiding under their fanlike foliage? Gardeners who live in the chilliest plant zones, though, have a definite disadvantage, as they may be forced to wait until May to sow their first seeds into the soil, and later watch their vibrant garden production come to a chilly halt as early as the first frost. Sad days, indeed. But as the headline notes, there are ways to extend your growing season and increase your yield. It may look a little different from your traditional gardening routine, but in no time at all, you can begin implementing a few simple DIY projects to keep you in peppers, cantaloupe and beets longer than the seed packets say is typically possible. In fact, you may be able to start your gardening season as much as six weeks earlier and extend it nearly as long on the other end. Besides being a cheaper and altogether healthier proposition than buying grow lights for your basement, all you need is a little bit of ingenuity for a lot more food. Mini Greenhouse Effects In early spring, when frost is still clinging to the grass, trees and rooftops, most gardeners are busy perusing seed catalogues for new varieties, but you can be planting them. Some vegetables, like peas, onions, lettuce and other leafy greens, enjoy a little nip in the air, but others, including tomatoes and bell peppers, do much better when the soil they're planted in is warmer. That's where these simple, dome-shaped structures come in handy. Cloches, cold frames, plastic-covered tunnels and other garden "hacks" can help facilitate a much earlier harvest. Depending on your needs, they're lightweight and relatively inexpensive to build, but strong enough to withstand cold nights, wind and freezing rain. As Mother Earth News explains, they give plants a "leg up" via free solar energy: "Simple plastic cloches or plastic-covered cold frames raise nighttime temperatures 4 to 5 degrees, but you can double that number by throwing on an insulating blanket in the evening. Or triple the protection by adding black water bottles, which release stored daytime warmth after the sun goes down."1 Questions about such projects usually deal with what materials are needed, whether they're difficult to build and how expensive they're likely to be. Luckily, you might not even have to hit the store at all, but instead use what you already have on hand. A 'Cloche' Is Like a Hat for Your Plants, Protecting Them From the Elements In the 1920s, women often wore close-fitting hats called a cloche, which in French means "bell." A bell-shaped dome over garden plants, also called a cloche, can trap the warmth of the garden soil and air during the day and keep plants warm during chilly nights. They can protect an individual plant, a row of plants or a whole section, depending on such factors as prior planning, garden size, plant placement and available materials. Something as simple as a translucent milk jug or clear plastic juice bottle with the spout cut off qualifies as a cloche to cover single plants. Save them or ask friends and family members to save them for you, too, rather than just throwing them away. Recycling centers may also have some available. They're easy to stack in your garden shed to use from year to year. Mother Earth News suggests another idea: "Before cutting off the bottom of any jug, I make a V-shaped slit in the top of the handle. Later, I can shove a long, slender stick through the slit and down into the soil to help hold the cloche steady in the wind." Plastic cake covers, cardboard boxes, old margarine containers, old Styrofoam coolers, baskets, upturned flower pots — anything that fits over the top of plants without bending or crunching them can work as a cloche. Tunnel Vision: A Cloche Alternative If you have a whole row of plants you want to protect, contriving a tunnel is quick and easy with just a few inexpensive items. They're convenient in the early part of the season when plants are small and less apt to blow over in a strong wind. For the "ribs" or frame of the tunnel, fencing wire or concrete reinforcing wire work well, but you can even use slender green branches or saplings from wooded areas because they're flexible and won't snap in half. Narrow, flexible pipe also works; one idea is to place symmetrical brackets on the sides of a raised bed garden. Simply place the pipe into the bracket on one side, bend it over the top of your plants and insert it into the other side. For the protective cover, recycling an old shower curtain works fine for smaller areas, but for a tunnel, clear plastic sheeting comes on a roll so it can be cut to size. The tunnels need to be sturdy in case of heavy snowfall, so you'll need to allow for a 2-foot overhang on each side. To hold down the edges of the plastic, use squared-off railroad ties, bricks or concrete blocks. Like a tent, you can open both ends of the tunnel to allow air to flow through. Simply fold or bunch up the plastic over the "ribs" on each end using clamps, clothespins or spring clips. You can also cut V-shaped vents into the sides and/or tunnel ends and use squares of masking tape to open or close them. The vents can be left open or closed depending on the temperature. In case a real cold snap occurs, you can throw a few old blankets over the top of the tunnel for extra insulation. These can be left on for up to four days in case the cold lingers. Mini Greenhouses Are Easier to Make Than You Might Think For rows of tall, full-sized plants such as tomatoes, you need a taller profile and a lot more plastic so the unit will be secure in strong wind — or protect them from critters like deer that may steal into your garden at night and decimate your crops. One way to make a mini greenhouse is to start with welded wire or mesh fencing with 2- to 4-inch-spaced square openings. Five-foot-long strips can be bent to make coverings that stand a foot high for beds measuring 30 to 36 inches wide. Here are easy directions to follow: Directions Bend the wire into the shape you want Lay it top down on a sheet of clear plastic Fold the plastic up and over the long edges of the wire Fasten the folded plastic inside the tunnel with clear packing tape Fashion a half-moon-shaped drape of plastic sheeting and attach it on both ends so you can close the tunnel in cold weather. The beauty of these tunnels is that they can be made to easily lift off the beds so you can water and weed and allow your plants to get daytime sun, then pop the tunnels back over the plants when they need protection again. They can be secured to the ground with "staples" made from wire coat hangers in case it gets windy or to protect from animals. A similar screen using mesh instead of plastic can keep birds from eating the berries off your raspberry bushes. Cold Frames: A Halfway House for Plants A cold frame is a boxed-in growing area with a clear glass, plastic or acrylic glass covering designed to trap solar heat inside. They're a perfect way to "harden off" tender seedlings, the term used to describe the gradual process of introducing young plants to the elements outside to make them stronger and more resilient. Gardening Know How explains: "When plants are grown from seed indoors, they frequently are grown in a controlled environment. The temperature is pretty much maintained, the light is not as strong as full sunlight outside and there will not be much environmental disturbance like wind and rain. Because a plant that has been grown indoors has never been exposed to the harsher outdoor environment, they do not have any defenses built up to help them deal with them. It is much like a person who has spent all winter indoors. This person will burn very easy in summer sunlight if he/she has not built up a resistance to the sun."2 Cold frames are generally stationary, but you can also put them together so they're movable. In fact, some gardeners take their smaller, portable cold frames outside for a few hours and back inside again over several days. Permanent cold frames are best situated on a south-facing slope, but flat ground works fine, too; just make sure they're placed in the sun. Materials can consist of anything that accomplishes the purpose at hand. If they're covered with a material that will allow light and heat inside, just about anything can work. Innovative ideas might be: Building a wooden or PVC plastic pipe frame, or parts of an old ladder Stacked bales of hay or bricks Old windows still in their frames with hinges intact for opening and closing An old shower door with metal hinges Old dresser or plastic file drawers, wooden crates or flat-topped toolboxes A simple wooden latch or screen door-type hook and eye is all that's necessary to keep the lid on your cold frame closed tightly, or get creative and use something like an old bicycle tire with plastic screwed on top. One thing that makes such projects so much fun is being able to think outside "the box." More 'Outside the Box' Garden Warmers Innumerable ideas have been spawned by creative innovation. As Plato aptly quipped, "necessity is the mother of invention." If you're determined not to spend money, rattling around in your garage, basement or shed to see what you have may spark inspiration. With that in mind, the humble 2-liter plastic bottle (or any size, really) has more uses than you can shake a stick at. They can be glued top-to-bottom and side-by-side, to make a "wall" inside a simple wooden frame. Mother Earth News suggests this idea: "Even when anchored by mulch, strong winds may blow away many cloches — except for heavy ones such as the Wall O' Waters, which weigh about 25 pounds when filled. A circle of water-filled plastic drink bottles duct-taped together is heavy enough to stay put and hold down the edges of a sheet of plastic tucked around the cloche for extra frost protection."3 Try painting plastic water bottles flat black to absorb the warmth of daytime sun, and they'll release that warmth at night. Create a protective circle around individual plants, or line them up, sides touching, between rows. You can even duct-tape them together for easier transport. A large, plastic water-cooler-sized barrel — or several — can do the same thing for larger plants. They warm up from the sun during the day and release their heat at night so you don't even have to move them. To lengthen your garden's growing season, beyond creativity, the only other thing to do is keep an eye on the weather.
