seventeen on your periods <3
a/n: these scenarios might or might not be inspired from my irl experiences lmfao, hope you like it as much as i liked writing it <3
svt x f!reader // headcanons // fluff // m.list words: 1.3k warnings: slight cursing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
choi seungcheol
did someone say that his baby was hurting???? fully prepared with blankets, hot packs and soup to help your cramps; talked you out from your unhealthy cravings (coffee and dairy presumably worsen your cramps); used to be a bit clueless in the starting but did his research so that he could help you out <3 tries to spend his days with you and regularly texts you to see if you need anything. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR UTERUS IS COMING OFF?" calls 911.
yoon jeonghan
can see him teasing you for your foul mood and asking, are you on your period? on the days when you're just plainly... angry. he's eerily correct though (you usually get your periods in around 2-3 days after he quotes that hateful sentence), but is a sweet pie when you actually get them; he would take care of you, indulge in your cravings and cuddle you when you watch a series whether it be gore or the most slow burn shit you have ever seen <33
hong jisoo
he's so patient oh my god, the best one to have around to help your mood swings! he would patiently listen to your rant about how you tore the wrapper in a different way than you wanted to and then he would cheer you up??? like, oh god, marry me. he won't be clueless. at all. you're surprised that he knows so much about periods. "what do you mean coffee worsens cramps???" "yes baby, now put it down alright? I got dark chocolate for you." "you're the best<3"
wen junhui
boy makes you laugh so hard that you actually forget that you're on a period for a while lol. would cook and clean for you and gently kiss your forehead when you thank him for cooking so delicious meals; I can clearly see him calling you during shoots to ask if you need anything or if you're doing alright if he can't stay beside you (considering he travels a lot btw korea and china), would calm down your anger issues and it would almost seem like you both switched personalities. won't joke around too much because he doesn't wanna accidentally upset you, but he always and I mean always, does something so stupid that you end up cackling afterall.
kwon soonyoung
was clueless during the start despite having a sister; worked his way through research and observing you. you won't let him cook for you lmao, if you don't wanna cook you're ordering take out, but he's not cooking until he literally begs you to. but would gladly help you with other works, bringing groceries? buying sanitary pads and painkillers? stroke and play with your hair while you both cuddle together? all done. he doesn't do much but his presence calms you down, a lot. like really a lot. just him being near you is ibuprofen enough. "you sure you don't want me to do anything else?" "no... can you just hold me please?" "i will hold you for eternity <3"
jeon wonwoo
definitely tracks your periods, let's all your pre menstrual tantrums slide, will make you tea to calm down and educate you about periods, "apparently an average female spends nearly 10 years on her periods." feeds you food which helps relieve your period cramps. does every household chores if you're unable to do so, kisses your forehead amidst his work <3 oh also, would introduce you to cod/pubg where you can let go of your pent up anger (: "I WILL KILL YOU!" "you're doing great sweetheart."
lee jihoon
he's clueless, even more than hoshi. but he's smart so he caught up with it quite earlier than hoshi and you just didn't realise that he had zero and i mean ZERO idea about periods. like yeah he read about it in 8th grade but that's it, but would definitely be very attentive towards you and would spoil you with affection if that's what you desire. you just need to tell him what to do and he will do whatever you want. secretly buys your favorite food because your reactions are ten times more dramatic than normal and loves seeing you giggling because he did something nice. would get sad when you're not feeling your best though; can i do something to help uplift her mood? :(((
xu minghao
makes you green tea and asks you to meditate to calm your mood swings lmao. can see him trying his best to soothe you down by rubbing your back and playing with your hairs, gentle kisses on your cheeks as he urges you get up and take a hot shower and not act lazy. he's so prepared its almost scary than endearing. would also call you like three to five times while he's away... he would still not hesitate to calm down your delusions and force you back into reality from your sappy imagination. "i miss you :(" "i'm laying down right next to you." "i meant it figuratively!" "i miss my smart y/n too" "hey!!!!"
kim mingyu
be honest, you thought he was clueless right? he's not. not at all. he gets you hot towels to lightly soak your belly, gives you belly rubs, makes you soup, plays with your hair and massage your lower back to help your pain. you thought he was sweet? he's sweeter now! bam, you can't be mad at him anymore ahahahahaha. holds you close to him and runs his hand on your body; "I feel like shit gyu" "you're a pretty cute shit then"
lee seokmin
poor baby is clueless lmfao, you have to help him navigate through even basic stuff, definitely called you to ask your coochie's size because pads were available in different sizes. cooks you very delicious meals and fulfills all your cravings. your bad mood is not so bad anymore because he gave you his most radiant smile. his presence can heal you easily. "thought you felt sick?" "not now when you're here <3"
boo seungkwan
was sassing you out and then you started crying and then you revealed that you were on your periods and it all clicked. doesn't sass you, gossips! and gossips so much that you don't care about your cramps anymore! would sass other people to make you happy. takes care of you and regularly get you head pads for your aches, foot massages to make you happy <33 would definitely get sad when he sees you in pain tho :((
chwe hansol
man's chill as f and doesn't treat you any differently, while other members do tend to get a little cautious (more when you're bawling your eyes out after seeing a cat video), he won't treat you any different. he just kind of... adapts? you feel like shit? he does subtle things to make you feel good. you're emotional? hes there to be emotional WITH you. you want him to take care of you? no problem. he's there. always.
lee chan
please you can't not tell me that he was absolutely fucking clueless at first, was honestly scared when you lashed out on him for not picking up after himself and thought that you are always equally angry during your periods (who isn't lmao) he soon realised that you just have needs during that time and hormonal fluctuations just make you a little scary. would follow you like a puppy tho :( and carry out every single task obediently; would definitely wish to take away your pain. hes so sweet omg (would also ask your coochie's size)

THE CULTURAL IMPACT OF BATTLE ROYALE
The Japanese cult classic film Battle Royale [based on the novel of the same name] became a worldwide success, inspiring movies, videos games, and establishing its very own genre of deathmatch-centered media.
From PUBG to Fortnite, The Hunger Games, and even Squid Game, the footprint it has left is immeasurable. A movie that follows a class of middle school students participating in a brutal game, forcing them to take the lives of their friends to save their own, continues to be a cultural phenomenon for the generations that follow.
Tumblr media
The Republic of Greater East Asia, middle school students、a deserted island and one challenge: “only one will survive.”
This is the plot of `Battle Royale バトルロワイアル` the bestseller, that gave birth to the ominous genre later. Behind the scenes after the popularity of the novel written by Koushun Takami which reached a million sold copies only in Japan, began a cycle of reverberating actions. Only a year after the serialization of the published manga in Japan it soon became a feature film with a rare R15+rating.
The novel portrays a large dictator-like governmental agency that selects a class of middle schoolers for their so-called ‘Program’. A ruthless and bloody battle on a deserted island that will see only one winner.
Every student is provided with a random weapon or utility tool however, at the same time each student finds him/herself with a metal collar on their neck. It provides the agency with a constant GPS location and is ready to explode if there is even the slightest attempt of breaking the rules of the game.
Girls and boys with completely different social backgrounds and personalities have to face this grim destiny and see themselves cornered by the most violent and survivalist situations humanly thinkable. All this in order to preserve their own lives. They will have to fight! Fight to the death!
Tumblr media
What started after a short career as a reporter, 30yo Takami would leave his job in pursuit of his inner vocation: writing novels.
In 1997 he presented his work to the literary competition “Japan Grand Prix Horror Novel”. During the final round, he succumbed to defeat; arguing that the story should have won the competition. However, controversies surfaced surrounding the plot of middle schoolers forced to kill each other. In turn this made many people and some of the judges of a horror literary competition shake in disapproval, resulting in a prize refusal.
In the same year of 1999, the novel would be published gaining great esteem in Japan, initiating an irreversible cultural movement…
Tumblr media
THE BATTLE ROYALE GENRE
A brute totalitarian organization that can do anything. A defined amount of participants, weapons, and usually an island, where over time the explorable area becomes smaller and smaller, facilitating encounters between individuals.
Tumblr media
This is the perfect mix that makes, us the readers, ponder about human nature, violence, and extreme survival circumstances.
Thanks to these thrilling emotions and feelings, Battle Royale has quickly become a staple, in the entertainment world of movies, novels, manga, and videogames, and so forth gaining great success in each respective industry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This plot has received many alterations during the course of time, and the reinterpretation from some other authors. Of which led to the storyline changing shape: thanks to Suzanne Collins, author of the novel `The Hunger Games`. People could see a new dress for Battle Royale in 2008, ushering in a dystopian world where an authoritarian government chooses not middle schoolers this time, but young individuals from different suburbs to fight until death. Merely for broadcasting entertainment; as its predecessor and mentor, this story was meant to be a mirror depicting our society`s own brutality.
The Hunger Games obtained incredible acclaim, mainly after its content was brought to a more mainstream audience thanks to its film, whose earnings reached the ones of colossuses like Harry Potter or The Dark Knight[BATMAN], who were releasing their respective sequels in movie theaters during the same year.
Tumblr media
Another great milestone was set, for the growth of this new genre; which could be thanks to Brendan Greene: better known for his online nickname `PlayerUnknown`.
Following his instinct as a DayZ and Arma 3 player as well as freelance web designer, he developed on his own a Mod for such game that later on would become the `DayZ: Battle Royale` Mod, inspired by the Japanese `Battle Royale` movie from the year 2000.
Tumblr media
Through this important achievement, Brandon’s career kept rolling until an offer from Korea brought him to work for the videogame company ‘Krafton’. There as creative director, he was able to give birth to PUBG (Player Unknown Battlegrounds). A game defined by its large-scale conflict where players fight to be the last one standing in a constantly shrinking arena.
In 2017 after a few days after its release, it became an international phenomenon setting records off the ‘Steam’ online videogame platform, counting up to 3 million users connected playing online.
From then on every other ‘Battle Royale’ game would have these similar features. Undeniably, we can say that PUBG set the foundation for this new genre within the gaming world.
Tumblr media
Not too long after this important accomplishment, a mightier figure quickly came in, under the brand `Epic Games`.
The bigger the company, the bigger the investment and as a result an unprecedented shake in the videogame industry: it was ‘Fortnite’.
For the first time, a company was able to create a game with a very colorful and simple but yet detailed design. "Which was and still is today, its strongest point. Thanks to this unprecedented aesthetic the free-to-play game was able to attract millions of users of the most wide ages.
Tumblr media
The crazy skins that oftentimes were connected to real-life events/films/culture and the `Epic Games` work in collaborating with famous influencers of the video gaming industry. But also huge artists and musicians, raised the bar so high, for a videogame whose playability and fun was already excellent.
Tumblr media
Fortnite is nowadays a colossus company able to generate a gross worth of 9Billion USD and has become one of the most popular and played videogames of all time.
Tumblr media
After these two big milestones in the videogame industry reinventing a Battle Royale game, it would be a great challenge for others to take on. Especially after many technical aspects of the game have been already developed and discovered throughout the years.
If the direction is correct, sometimes it’s good to step back and see what you could do from back there or even improve.
Tumblr media
Taking away the violence from a Battle Royale game, things wouldn`t be the same because the emotions and feelings that make us excited, are the staples of this genre. Still, someone like `Mediatonic` was able to resize these feelings and transform the whole thing into a non-violent-competition, but still with progressive elimination.
Influenced by TV game shows and Battle Royale, `Fall Guys` published on the 4th of August 2020, has rewritten the modality of the genre.
Tumblr media
Violence can be replaced by competition dictated by skill and also fun: in a game where up to 60 players, impersonating a bean-like avatar, face different stages and challenges that require different abilities, the winner will be only one receiving an in-game money prize.
Not like its predecessor, but still with great numbers the game was one of the top downloaded and purchased of the year. Bringing a new interpretation to the Battle Royale genre was a big deal in the industry, especially because of the important influence that this change of view could have brought to the next futures.
Tumblr media
Every single stage of this metamorphosis has created a different nuance to this genre and brought new imaginary scenarios to life.
If in the videogame industry the main focus of a Battle Royale game is set on the map, weapons, and playability, in the movie industry a major focus can be shifted on characters and psychology. Creating an exciting story that can reflect different aspects of our modern society.
Tumblr media
You and other persons are held against their will, in a deadly competition where one’s life is put on the edge of a blade every minute: if able to endure everything and reach the end, the prize will be immense.
(황동혁)Hwang Dong-hyuk`s Squid Game is what we all were waiting for.
Thanks to the Korean film director, producer, and screenwriter we had a new and incredible setting for a revisited Battle Royale survival TV series.
Set in a parallel version of nowadays South Korea, a number of people were promised a mountain of money as the winning prize. They are lured and kidnapped into a deadly and sadistic competition that will see only one winner.
We don`t see people directly fighting each other in an open map, but rather compete in different sets, reminding us of 80`s/90`s Japanese game shows featuring physical and skill challenges.
Tumblr media
With this new focus, we are able to empathize with every character of the story and live with them like a real nightmare.
Since the beginning of September 2021 `Squid Game` has become a real shock and revelation for millions of people also thanks to Netflix. Now one of the top streaming platforms worldwide.
The TV series has gained a large following very quickly, in an escalation of a broken record grossing profits generated.
Tumblr media
While the green tracksuit and black masks with white triangle shapes on them still are spotted around our everyday life, another chapter of the Battle Royale genre is influencing our culture and slowly becoming a staple in our imagination.
Tumblr media
esides the incredible success of this genre, it`s fascinating to reflect on how this mix of primordial feelings and society mirror-like storyline is able to thrill its audience in every single one of its shapes. On one side the society is drawn to the plot because of the lunacy yet rich emotional situations that are created. On the other hand, it's able to put itself in such situations or just wonder what it would or could do in a critical circumstance.
Tumblr media
It is true that the survival instinct is within us and even though we don`t use it anymore in today’s society, it’s still a part of our obsolete instincts that tap into our darkest side. The overflow, where we can still relate to how powerful these feelings still, are.
BATTLE ROYALE: MOVIE & MANGA
Tumblr media
The action/thriller movie published around the year 2000, was directed by (深作 欣二) Kinji Fukasaku, better known for his movies about Yakuza such as Battles Without Honor and Humanity, and based on Koushun`s novel `Battle Royale`.
It was so controversial that at the beginning was banned from international distribution, and when screened in Japan for the first time it was advised as an R+15 years of age which was unusual for the time. This didn`t stop the audience from wanting to witness this new gem, making it become the highest-grossing film for six weeks in a row at that time.
Tumblr media
The film follows truthfully to the original novel from Koushun only with small changes. During the storyline, the audience is able to notice that the character development of every single student is not made with the same depth as in the novel. Which might result in a flattened version of our favorite student characters.
That said, in the movie we will still find plenty of blood as well as a well-built set, able to evoke our fantasies of sceneries and encounters from the book.
Battle Royale became a cultural phenomenon and is considered one of the most influential films in recent decades. It has been highly influential in global popular culture, so viewing the film is surely a must.
Tumblr media
MANGA
In the 2000s the serializing of this manga based on the novel `Battle Royale` started along with the movie of the same work.
Thanks to the illustrator Masayuki Taguchi, Koushun was able to give graphical life to his previous work: a 15 tankobon (volumes) series was published over approximately 5 years.
Tumblr media
Oddly despite the novel being rejected because of the thought of its controversy, the manga resulted in the ultimate form of the ‘Battle Royale’ gore and violence: it’s not strange to see very detailed scenes of dismembered bodies, rape, and other sorts of abuse in mangas in general.
An added value to this series is the deep background that Koushun was able to give for many of the characters that compose the storyline: here we don`t find many differences with the novel, but rather through the movie adaptation.
Tumblr media
Still, to this day Battle Royal remains an amazing work that clearly shows us, human hate and boundaries of violence, as well as true and positive feelings. Battle Royale is for sure a gripping narrative, fulfilled in actuality. It is a benchmark monolith, and its influence will be there forever.

I’ve seen many people reblog a post which contains tweets that, in my eyes, amount to a single complaint that is only half true (but that I agree with for the most part). But anyway, here’s a longpost:
Tumblr media
(tweet in question)
I think it’s mostly wrong to say FPS multiplayer “peaked” ("was most fun for the playerbase"?) with Source games in the way presented. Believe it or not, you can still join a server with 30 people playing on a user map with fucked up assets everywhere, and some of the 30 people playing will be 14-year-olds with bad mics getting mad at being spawn killed by someone with 20,000 hours in the game. In fact, there are servers like this in most Source games, including Garry’s Mod, TF2, and CSS and CSGO (but honestly I think TF2 is most representative of the above scenario). I just launched Valve’s community server browser and have found an unending list of silly-sounding servers for TF2: Minecraft trade, Murder at the Mannor, Zombie Escape, Medieval Mode, all full or near-full. I checked Garry’s Mod: SCP-RP, Zombie Survival, Clone Wars Roleplay, “Swamp Cinema”, 1980’s Mafia Roleplay, DarkRP (x20), again, all well-populated. Admittedly CS2 was mostly deathmatch servers (due to it being Source 2 and not Source and so missing a lot of plugins that would allow for “fun” servers), but CSS still had surf, bhop, minigames, and jailbreak servers still going and full. My server browser won’t show CSGO for whatever reason, but up until CS2 released I know for a fact that these silly ass servers still exist there too. The implication that these servers and their conditions are gone is wrong. You don’t want a server with the exact same conditions though, I think you want to relive the specific memories you’re having and feel happiness again. But maybe I’m going too far there.
How about this. I’ll give it to you, Dusk developer, that for you FPS multiplayer peaked with insane TF2 trade servers, but you also make boomer shooters for a living, so I think you’re biased towards enjoying an older generation of games anyway. Modern FPS games are fantastic and in their own ways contain a lot of fun. Modern games in general fill the spaces that, for you, TF2 servers filled. Have you seen Roblox minigames and Minecraft server plugins? They’re actually crazy and decently well made. I’m excited that kids have grown up in such a good environment for games. They have tons of options that we didn’t have back then. It’s awesome! Like, don’t let your nostalgia blind you to the fact that kids are having just as much fun as you now. TF2 and Garry’s Mod are not the be-all, end-all of FPS multiplayer fun. That sentiment I completely disagree with and think people should get over.
But like, how the hell does competitive gaming play into this? I truly don’t buy the wording of “Esports and competitive ranking ruined multiplayer”. It’s just not true. Not only are the servers you’re mourning still exist, they’re still well-populated and their “golden age” coincided with some of the greatest heights in competitive FPS gaming. You know what’s funny? When CSGO released in 2012, TF2 saw a drop of almost 10,000 average players. It recovered basically the next year. Besides a small dip in 2018, TF2 had held around 50,000 average players since its release, until 2019 where its average player-count has risen to about 80,000 players. Garry’s Mod wouldn’t peak in total concurrent players until 2015 and has had a dedicated core of players averaging around 25,000 since like 2013. Seriously, these are incredibly consistent player-counts throughout the release of Overwatch, PUBG, Fortnite, Apex, and Valorant. In fact, contrary to the tweeter's implicit assumptions, it seems like nothing much has changed, and that competitive gaming did not, at all, ruin or depopulate these “fun” spaces.
So, again, how does competitive gaming and esports play into this? Only thing I think is valid is the fact that a few popular modern FPSes don’t do the whole “community-hosted server” thing: Apex, Fortnite, PUBG, Valorant, and Overwatch all do not have native community-hosted server support. Which, to be frank, is bad for their competitive gaming scene too! Esports has ALWAYS used self-hosted servers for practicing to get better. I don’t know the argument for not having these sorts of things, maybe not developing the toolkit for these things is easier than developing them. IDK. But I agree that it is bad that many popular games don’t support this sort of thing. The “self-hosted netizen” is a category of person that’s been declining for a long time regardless of the effect of competitive first-person shooter games on the casual first-person shooter games self-hosted server market. But again, for the topic of the post, I think this is a completely nonsensical implication. As far as I can tell ALL Valve-made Source engine games have active and popular community servers still, and the popular games ALL have very populated servers with “fun” gamemodes and atmospheres. Competitive has grown very popular, yes. It's true. It's fun to compete, everyone knows it. But esports has taken very little if anything away from the casual playerbase of Source games.
(Also, for the record, during the actual multiplayer FPS golden age of the time, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 shooters, there were no self-hosted servers for us, and it was still the most fun anyone ever had playing casually on console. It was the age of trickshotting and montages, man! For the intent of this post that exact restriction counts as “keeping players from interacting with one another” yet these games, especially COD, were, uh… infamously social. Not to mention these games had competitive scenes alongside the casual scene perfectly fine.)
I think, really, ignoring the actual content of the tweet, these tweets are just about nostalgia for your childhood. Which is fine! You can miss things you used to do for fun and no longer do. Probably every human that’s ever existed has gone through this. I mean, again, it is kind of popular in current culture to be nostalgic. The 90s aesthetic, early 2000s media, retro games, super hero movies, cartoons being consumed by adults to a greater degree than ever, et cetera. I think to some extent the complaint itself isn’t like, a completely unclouded judgement of the Decline of The Beauty of Multiplayer Gaming throughout the years. The concrete complaints in those tweets seem both a little rose-tinted and unnecessarily doomerpilled to me. But like, regardless, it’s kind of your fault for not returning to these things, man. Go join one of those servers if you’re not busy being an adult with a job and friends and other obligations that may keep you from doing things that you’re not used to and have fun like you did in childhood. Or is that what's actually the problem…? I don’t know. A suggestion. I just think in the end the complaint isn't valid.
This post is long and I had a LOT of thoughts that I may have missed or chopped off at the incorrect time. I think the picture I'm trying to build has probably been communicated, though? Maybe I’m not considering something, maybe I overinterpreted implications, maybe the fact that the playerbase of TF2 and Garry's Mod being highly consistent for ten years or whatever is not indicative of anything I've said, but I hope regardless you understand that like, at least part of this tweet is weird to say in the ways I've attempted to untease. People young and old are still having crazy times in video games and esports has done, as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing to change at, ever.
Turning off reblogs because I have a feeling anyone who doesn't follow me might become annoying about this

some zb1 members as confessions i’ve received
₊˚⊹ genre: fluff | wc: —
₊˚⊹ warning(s): swearing | inspo: —
₊˚⊹ a/n: i found my notes rating these and i got this.. i changed like a detail or two to fit the scenario and member (+ no WAYY im writing it exactly how it happened 😭😭😭) this only includes yujin and gunwook for now!
not fully proofread yet!
Tumblr media
you promised yourself that you’ll listen to class this time, but it seemed yujin had other plans instead.
“what?” you say exasperatedly as yujin keeps poking your arm with his pencil for the nth time, you don’t notice yujin’s slight smile as you’re too busy answering the textbook activity your teacher assigned. “shouldn’t you be answering too?”
“yeah, but i’m bored.” you roll your eyes at his response, “and you’re gonna be begging for the answers at what, two in the morning?” yujin chuckles at your prediction, to be fair he wasn’t in the mood in answering some math exercises at all, especially when you’re around.
but you don’t seem to budge right now to his frustration, he wanted your attention to be on him for the whole period, not on some dumb math questions. you could do that later, anyway. and that’s when he thinks of the perfect idea:
“hey,” he starts off.
“you wanna know who’s my crush?” yujin says, you perked up at the thought of finding out about such top information. and finally you have something to tease yujin about that’s not about him sleeping in class. yujin tries his best to hide his grin, perfect.
you put down your pencil, “who?” to which yujin hovers his hand over your own textbook, writing ‘you.’ with his god-awful handwriting. it took you at least twenty seconds as if it was some code that needed to be deciphered, when you finally understood you looked up at him surprised.
“really?” yujin nods and grins at you in response, you failed to notice his lightly red tinted cheeks while doing so. “you wanna guess mine too?”
taking your own pencil, you also wrote ‘you!!’ on the edge of his page. yujin’s grin grew even wider especially when you tried erasing it, trying to suppress a giggle as if you just did the most amazing thing ever.
and needless to say, your class was spent trying to hush up each other’s giggling and yujin finally got to bask in your attention for now and the days to come.
Tumblr media
“you want ammo?” you hear gunwook’s extreme ass of a mic over your pubg game, you’ve been playing battle royale with him the whole night considering it’s a weekend the next day.
“i’m good,” you say after ransacking another house for loot, you could hear gunwook hum a bit before you start hearing his blasting fan over his mic. “someone’s here by the way, i’ll look for him.” he says, eventually getting a kill.
soon enough, you both won, with gunwook proudly flexing on you about having more than ten kills and saving you from enemies. “you’re lucky i even revived you after getting sniped that bad, if it was gyuvin i’d leave him there.”
“sure man, whatever you say.” you say jokingly, you’re not sure if gunwook got the memo since it became scarily quiet right after. even gunwook’s fan wasn’t heard and his mic could pick up any minuscule sound known.
“you’re cute.”
“..which fucking demon possessed you this time?”
it took a few seconds of silence before gunwook laughs breathlessly, almost as if he’s been holding that for the whole game. “i’m being serious. i didn’t wanna say that a while ago especially when you got sniped that—”
“oh shut up, i could’ve called you cute but i guess nevermind..” you tease, though you regret it right away when gunwook’s mic suddenly exploded with him saying sorry on repeat. you swore your ears rang the whole night ever since.

My Favorite Games of 2023.
Hi. Hello. Thanks ever so much for clicking on this page. Happy to have you.
First thing's first: I'm a little freak when it comes to video games. I don't feel the need to beat most games I play. From Software is one of my favorite studios in the industry and I've never finished a single one of their games. This means, fortunately, that I get to play a LOT more games than the average bear.
I've written up some blurbs about my top ten favorite games from 2023, but before that here's the list of every game I remember playing this year that left any sort of lasting impact on me (in no particular order):
Dead Space Remake Resident Evil 4 Remake F-Zero 99 Humanity Dredge Metroid Prime Remastered Anemoiaplois Alan Wake 2 Baldur’s Gate 3 LoZ Tears of the Kingdom Counter Strike 2 Hunt Showdown El Paso Elsewhere Jusant Slay the Princess| Remnant II The Finals Street FIghter 6 Lethal Company BattleBit Remastered Don’t Scream Homebody The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog Pizza Tower World of Horror Super Mario Wonder Mr. Sun’s Hatbox Fifa 23 Sea of Stars (Demo) Half-Life (25th Anniversary Update)
And the games I played that were NOT released in 2023:
Unpacking Persona 4 Golden Picross 7 The Order 1886 Shovel Knight Dig Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Spider-Man: Miles Morales Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Project Zomboid Quake LoZ The Minish Cap Drill Dozer Wario Land 4 Pokemon Pinball Resident Evil Revelations Summer of ‘58 Trackmania TwinCop We Were Here Visage Cursed Halo CE Half-Life 2 (I probably play this once per year) Witch Hunt Red Dead Redemption 2 Cyberpunk 2077 Borderlands 3 Brutal Legend Cultic Slay the Spire PUBG Rez Infinite Batman Arkham City Alan Wake Alan Wake: American Nightmare Max Payne LoZ: Majora’s Mask 3DS Metroid Prime Metroid Prime 2 Tunic Everhood Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy VII Remake GOODBYE WORLD Yakuza: Like a Dragon Critters for Sale Dome Keeper Phasmophobia Hades Nintendo Switch Sports
Now that you understand the kind of freak you're dealing with…
Let's dive into my top ten favorite games from this objectively fucked up year.
10. El Paso Elsewhere Developed by Texas indie studio Strange Scaffold, El Paso Elsewhere is a Max Payne-clone with vampires, an opinionated narrator, and lots and lots of bullet time. As a small studio punching well above their weight class, Strange Scaffold leans into abstract, PlayStation 1 minimalism when it comes to visuals and pairs them with a soundtrack that will make your hands sweat. The vibes are here and they're ready for the end of the world. I'm personally also a big fan of everything this studio stands for.
Tumblr media
9. Mr. Sun's Hatbox I want you to imagine Metal Gear Solid V. Now I want you to imagine that game as a 2D, level-based, slapstick platformer you can play with up to three friends. If you think that sounds stupid, you'd be right. And it's beautiful. As you build up a secret army of soldiers with various skills (and disorders), you'll start to develop *favorites*. This game constantly asks if you're willing to send those favorites on a harrowing mission and risk losing them forever… or if you'd rather send an idiot you recently captured who blinks constantly and can't kill anyone without fainting.
Tumblr media
8. Dredge Every year I feel like I find one game that falls into the “just one more round” category, and baby… Dredge was it for 2023. As a weary fisherman in strange waters, you'll make the most out of your 12 measly hours of sunlight only for your daily voyages to inevitably pull you into the darkness of night, and night is when things get weird. Rocks emerge from the fog that you swear weren't there before, your equipment malfunctions, and you're pretty sure you just saw something in the water… something big. Despite only containing a small collection of islands, the world of Dredge manages to feel vast - perhaps vast enough to swallow you whole.
Tumblr media
7. Resident Evil 4 Remake I was curious to see what sort of changes would be made to the timeless classic and father of modern 3rd person shooters, Resident Evil 4. I wasn't let down. RE4 Remake takes all the things that didn't age well about the original, tossed them out, and replaced them with only good things. And MORE things! It's campy, fun, and better than a game of bingo.
Tumblr media
6. Jusant I really feel like this one didn't get the recognition it deserves. Jusant is a rock climbing game that combines the quiet contemplation of Journey with the mechanical specificity of Death Stranding. Unlike Death Standing, though, there is very little story to interrupt your flow. There are plenty of collectible bits to find for those curious to learn more about what happened before the events of the game, but the environmental storytelling does most of the heavy lifting. For me, the joy of the game comes from how it feels. Right trigger controls your right hand grip, and left trigger controls left hand grip. Plan your route, manage your stamina, and climb high above the clouds in search of answers.
Tumblr media
5. F-Zero 99 This. Shit. Slaps. I've never been a big F-Zero guy, but this MADE me one. The “battle royale”, 99 player format is the perfect fit for the ruthless, high octane world of the game. Races last about three minutes, and friend, they are the most intense, white-knuckled three minutes of your life. The decision to make your boost meter the same as your health meter started in F-Zero 64 (I believe), and it is so much more HARROWING in this game when another player could side-swipe you mere meters from the finish line and blow you to bits. Sadly it's only playable via Switch Online, but it made me cheer, laugh, and scream enough this year to earn a spot in my top 5.
Tumblr media
4. Alan Wake 2 Remedy makes weird games that also manage to exist in the AAA space and for that I will forever love them. Although Alan Wake 2 resembles a 3rd person shooter survival horror, I'd honestly say it's more of a narrative game than anything else. There's sidequests, there's puzzles, there's upgradeable skills, but at the end of the day the characters, world, and story are what kept me playing. If you haven't checked them out recently, you should definitely watch a story recap of the original games before diving into this sequel, but the wild swings for the fences this game takes are well worth that small price of admission. There's a god damn musical number, for Christ's sake.
Tumblr media
3. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom I've really got nothing to say about this game that most people don't already know. It's incredible. The fact that Nintendo made a game that redefined an entire genre and then made a SEQUEL to it that ups the ante is remarkable. To be honest, I've only cleared the Rito, Zora, and Goron cities. I got a bit tired of exploring the depths and guiding Koroks to their friends, but I can't deny the sheer level of complexity and polish on display here. I saw someone on TikTok build a functioning Mecha Godzilla in this game. Good God. I've heard that the ending of this game is one of the best in the franchise, and if I'd seen it this year then it may have wound up higher on my list, but for the time being I'll continue picking up this masterpiece from time to time, chipping away at it until the day comes that I can finally smack the tits off thicc Ganondorf.
Tumblr media
2. Half-Life (25th Anniversary Update) I know I'm gonna get shit for this, but I don't care. This year was the 25th anniversary of Half-Life and Valve released an update that made playing it (and it's online Death Match) much more accessible. I threw it on my Steam Deck out of curiosity, expecting to play for 20 minutes. I could not put it down. It is unbelievable how modern this game still feels. I simply had so much fun sprinting through the corridors of Black Mesa with a dozen weapons strapped to my back, blasting aliens and military Spec-Op chumps as a 24(?!) year old theoretical physicist.
Tumblr media
1. Baldur's Gate III This game is fucked up, man. The sheer amount of writing in this game scares me. We can all talk about how BIG this game is, it deserves it, but the thing BG3 does better than any other role playing game I have ever experienced is actually encourage roleplaying. I've played through Act I four times now, with four different groups of friends, and it has felt fresh every time. I have seen the same events play out in so many different ways that it boggles the mind, but in every one of those play sessions I see players asking themselves “What would my lil guy do here?” rather than "what is the best thing to do here?" The game rewards players constantly for just trying shit and the D&D 5e rule set means playing like the character you said you were from the start leads to frequent Points of Inspiration. Maybe one day I'll see the end of this story (probably not), but I don't have to in order to feel a connection with BG3's world, characters, and most impressively, the characters I made myself.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions for 2023
5. Dave the Diver 4. Homebody 3. Sea of Stars 2. Humanity 1. Super Mario Wonder
Top 5 Favorites NOT from 2023
5. Metroid Prime 4. Final Fantasy VII Remake 3. Cursed Halo (Halo CE Mod) 2. Red Dead Redemption 2 1. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (3DS)
Games I didn't have a chance to play from 2023 but still want to when I find more time...

Do you know who Awni El-Dous is?
Tumblr media
A kid with a loving family, a lot of video games, and dreams.
One of those dreams is to become a Youtuber. He would upload videos of him playing his favorite games. Him killing it on PC games like CSGO and PUBG Mobile. He was very serious about this goal too, often coming to a distant relative of his for advice on how to make his channel better. Striving to become his competitor. Like many of us, he idolized creators that turned their passions and hobbies into careers. He wanted to be like them, having followers and fans.
Over the course of 2 years, he managed to reach one of his first goals of 1 thousand subscribers. Upon reaching this goal, he filmed a video on a bustling street in Gaza properly introducing himself & thanking those supporting him.
Tumblr media
"So now folks, let me introduce myself: I am a Palestinian from Gaza, aged 12 years old. The goal of this channel is to reach 100,000 subscribers. And 500,000, then 1 million, and God willing to reach 10 million subscribers with your support and love."
Awni was one of the first casualties in Israel's ongoing genocide. Killed in a strike on October 7th, 2023. As the world learned about who he was and what he dreamed of, it came together to blow him past 1 million subscribers.
A popular Kuwaiti Youtuber by the name of AboFlah caught wind of this and discovered his instagram account in a video. His mouse wanders to the direct message button, hoping that he didn't know him.
You can see the exact moment he discovered that Awni absolutely idolized him. Sending him messages that he never saw.
In tears, he reads the messages that Anwi sent him.
"You're my role model and everything I wish for. I hope you never stop posting." "I swear, i love you and love your videos. Keep going, legend!" "Nothing compares to Palestine's winter in Gaza; the atmosphere is legendary. We're drinking sahlab. It's so good. We're also eating roasted chestnuts. I hope you come to Palestine. Much love."
After this, Aboflah would use this video to ask his followers to help Awni achieve his dream, even in death. Now, his comment section is full of celebratory comments congratulating him for reaching his goal, and mourning. Wondering why a boy like this had to die.
As i said before, Awni El-Dous was a kid with a loving family, a lot of video games, and dreams. Aboflah put it best. A lot of people see themselves in Awni. I absolutely do. I was uploading videos with the same dreams as him. I felt the exact same enthusiasm he displays in his descriptions, sharing his gameplay. Boy's no different than me.
As our (western) societies discourage supporting palestine in any capacity, talking about it is the least we can do. There's many stories like this. Palestine is full of people similar to you. I thought I'd share the story that resonated with me the most. There's probably one out there that will too. Just keep talking about these people, man.

R u that one Indian hacker that says “pubg mobile” ?
Tox: I get hyped to play some pubg. Try to land on a house. Parachute is stuck as my feet dangle over the flat roof bearing a mini 14. I cut away my parachute, hoping to hold the marvelous semi rifle in my hand. Suddenly my life flashed before my eyes as I soar past the roof after being teleported 30 seconds into the past without a parachute, hitting the ground. I emit a pained moan, yet I lost not health and I'm standing upright. Trying to move forward, but I'm stuck. My chest hits the ground as I look down at my ankles broken in 15 places, my healthbar flashing red. Atleast there is no beeping alarm sound for that, I think. I move up to the door, ever so slightly annoyed as two broken keyboard lie next to me on the ground. My hand reaches for the door. It doesnt open. use use use The door finally moves. It's in a quantum position. I can see inside, yet I can't move inside. I'm flabbergasted, gasping out "schrödinger, why have you failed me.." under my breath. Like a usb I use the door two more times to ensure it's finally right, despite there only being two options. I can finally enter, looking around on the bottom floor. Suddenly I hear footsteps, feeling like I'm in jurassic park, I run to the gun infront of me. A revolver with 15 bullets. Amazing. I pick it up and start reloading, only to see the ammo appearing in my pocket 5 seconds after I grabbed it. My revolver fits an incredible amount of 10 bullets before I decide to stop. The steps are really close and I'm almost positive he didn't hear my mariachi band of metal clanking bullets. Coming to think of it, where did they come from? The revolver was empty and I didn't drop anything. A foot appears in the door, my senses come back to the important part, the danger, the enemy. I can see his barrel and his foot in the doorway, waiting for him to enter my line of sight more before I start shooting. He's unarmored! What a miracle, I might just win this!, I think to myself, shooting him in the head. The bullet hits him right in the face as blood splatters from his leg. Suddenly he shoots back, towards the stairs. Yes, he's not even shooting at me! I think, catching some pellets in my face. Barely alive at 10 hp after he shot at me without even looking at me, which is quite rude to be honest, I make my last resort to running back to the room I found my weapon in. The door is still open so I can finally leave. He wont be able to get me out there with just a shotgun! Running for the kitchen I make it as he only just enters the room, shooting as I'm already behind the wall. I'm safe! Let's just get out of her- Killed by ngrf4gt with Shotgun. Better luck next time. I click the quit button and close down the game. My computer tries to revive itself from suffering under the most demanding game ever invented. I turn off windows after 5 minutes and go to bed. Don't worry, I think to myself for a year already, it's in early access, bugs are to be expected.

my partner likes to... exaggerate his compliments about my gaming skill, and while i appreciate the effort, most of the time my knee jerk reaction is to go "that is patently untrue" because. well. it is. i am not "a god" at pubg. i have played six games and killed four people. i am not "carrying" anybody. this is not "my shooter" i just can't die as often in lobbies where we don't see anybody for eight minutes in a row
also he's the one who tells me where to go and what to pick up and how and when to use items, without which i would get absolutely SMOKED immediately and forever

I miss gaming with the boys. I miss PUBG, Blackout, and Warzone! Blackout was by far my favorite, sucks that they didn't carry that over. I still remember my favorite PUBG play! It was me, my husband, his brother and my brother. They all got knocked down or killed and this dumb dude is just looting bodies! Knowing full well a team member was still alive, considering they were all nocked first and didn't immediately die! I ran round the building and crouched behind him, shot him in the back of head and we won! "Chelsea did you get him?" "I don't know what do you think?" WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER comes across the screen. Everyone is yelling "Fuck yeaaaah! Chelsea came in clutch! Pistol grip PUMP!" I will run from fire fight if I think I'm going to die, then come back to save the day. I was also always very good at picking people up in the most dire circumstances! Never leave a man behind!
"She would've been a medic in the war for sure!"
"Raezin coming in hot with the pickup, like she wasn't just getting shot at by 3 different teams!"

Tom Hansen vs Jacob Lee!
Conditions:
No other restrictions.
Scenario:
After successfully containing the Exocel outbreak, Hansen is assigned with stopping all future zombie virus outbreaks. To this end, he's sent to contain the outbreak on Callisto and kill the man supposedly responsible: Jacob Lee.
Analysis: Hansen
The ocean depths are a mysterious and dangerous place. At the lowest survivable levels of Earth's surface, strange creatures straight out of Lovecraft's nightmares evolved to survive the dark, cold, crushing depths of the ocean floor. And humanity was about to unearth some of its most dangerous creatures.
In the coldest parts of the Atlantic Ocean, Russian oil diggers discovered a new form of life within the ice they were mining. Exocels. Parasitic creatures that were completely uncategorized by existing scientific theories. Capable of overtaking the higher brain functions of their host and mutating them in response to dangerous external stimuli. Naturally, the crew of the Star of Sakhalin begain trying to weaponize these new creatures to sell for a profit. Predictably, it didn't work out. The ship was quickly overrun by mutant zombies and a distress call was sent out.
The call was answered by Tom Hansen, an officer of the United States Coast Guard who really wants to be Leon Kennedy. He and his crew were sent to rescue everyone on board, only to find everyone already dead or zombified. Narrowly surviving the massacre of his crew, Tom was left alone on the ship as the only thing stopping the Exocels from falling into the shadowy hands of the CIA.
Luckily, Hansen comes equipped with every weapon a survival horror protagonist could ever need. He comes decked out with the usual affair of pistols, shotguns, and automatic weapons, each laser scoped to ensure perfect accuracy. Even his standard M1911A1 can completely pop a human’s skull like it was made from confetti, to say nothing of his MP5, AK47, and Benelli M4. But all of that pales in comparison to his sawed off M79 Grenade Launcher to blow apart any Exomutant that gets hit by it, even shredding through Exo zombies that evolved specifically to withstand bullets and fire arms.
Tom would quickly adapt against the rapidly evolving Exocels, using a modified harpoon gun whose harpoons emitted a protein gas, allowing his shots to distract Exocels with delicious smelling harpoons. Perfect for luring them into a trap or grouping them together for a grenade. Hansen has fought through squadrons of Russian mercenaries, defeated invisible Exocel zombies, dodged a steel door that was blasted at him by an explosion, and survived getting infected by an Exocel that tried to eat him alive from the inside out twice.
With nothing but raw wit, determination, and witty one liners, Tom rigged the entire ship to blow with C4 and faced down the man behind the entire disaster. Kamsky, the mad scientist turned sentient Exomutant out to replace humanity with his zombified master race. Kamsky is strong enough to completely demolish a metal bridge just by jumping right through it.
Ultimately, Hansen defeated Kamsky, blowing the Star of Sakhalin to pieces and exterminating the Exocel threat once and for all.
Analysis: Lee
Space. The Final Frontier. A place only fit to be explored when all other options are exhausted. When the Earth has no more life left in it and humanity has no other place to go. It is a hellish, lifeless void incapable of even carrying your screams. It is the graveyard of the universe and in no other world is this fact more apparent than the hellish world.... of PUBG.
....What's that? That got retconned? The Callisto Protocol isn't canon to PUBG anymore? Fuck. Alright, fine. In no other universe is this fact more apparent than the hellish world of The Callisto Protocol.
Humanity is struggling to survive in space after all other options have been extinguished and Earth's resources have been used up. Without the means to leave the solar system, crime and poverty are rampant across human society, forcing down on his luck space trader Jacob Lee to turn to some ethically questionable lines of work. He strikes up a deal with the United Jupiter Company to smuggle some illegal cargo to Jupiter's moon Callisto. This results in him getting hijacked by The Outer Way, a terrorist group fighting against the UJC, which then results in him crash landing on Callisto. This gets him thrown into the supermax prison Black Iron for illegal smuggling.
Thankfully, he isn't there long, as a riot begins not long after he's thrown into his cell. Unfortunately, the riot was caused by a zombie outbreak. The warden had discovered a super virus called the Biophage deep within Callisto and, believing it's adaptive properties would allow humans to better survive in space, unleashed the virus on all the inmates and ordered the security drones to kill everyone as a way of testing it. Now, Jacob must desperately fight for his survival in a prison where everyone and everything wants him dead.
Luckily, he stumbles across quite a few useful gadgets while on his way out. His armored space suit allows him survive the hellish conditions of Callisto's surface, where the temperatures can get as low as -139.2 C°. His prison shiv, crowbar, and electric stun baton allow him to pummel the infected up close, even against monsters strong enough to rip off heads, crush skulls, and rip human beings in half. Final Transmission gives him the Kinetic Hanmer, a massive hammer that can store and charge up kinetic energy to make his swings hit even harder. His Hand Cannon is a nifty side arm with an alt fire that fires explosive rounds, while his tactical pistol comes with a burst fire mode. His skunk gun shotgun fires homing rounds, his riot gun shotgun fires explosive rounds, and his assault rife fires smart bullets, advanced homing rounds that can maneuvers themselves around obstacles while tracking down their targets. And each of these guns is powerful enough to pierce the metal alloy of Black Iron's security drones, who are strong enough to effortlessly rip the titanium doors off spaceships. But Jacob's most advanced weapon is his Gravity Restraint Projector, a drvice on his arm that manipulates gravity to allow Jacob to effortlessly lift heavy objects and even people. He can throw you off a cliff or into a wall of spikes with just a wave of his hand.
His arsenal isn't entire good, though. Jacob suffers from what I like to call Gordon Freeman Syndrome, where his perfectly serviceable space suit and armor doesn't have a helmet. Only Jacob's is worse because he DID have a perfectly good helmet, he just took it off for no reason. And secondly, there's the CORE device strapped into the back of his neck. While it does monitor the health status of all prisoners at Black Iron and make him compatible with their Health Injectors, which Jacob can use to rececitate himself even while his heart is stopping, it also exists to monitor his memories. Meaning Jacob is frequently getting flashbacks and suffering from severe hallucinations as a result of his CORE device fucking with his head.
Despite all of that, Jacob is still a survivor. Even as the Biophage zombies evolved to match his tactics, Jacob powered through. Sneaking past blind zombies who had developed echo location and shooting out the weak spots of Zombies who grew hardened skin to resist his bludgeoning. For better and for worse, he's willing to do whatever he has to ensure his own safety. To the point that the breakout at Black Iron was actually his fault, as the illegal cargo he was carrying for the UJC turned out to be the Biophage pathogen. Realizing that he's indirectly killed thousands in his selfishness, Jacob works to undo the harm he's done, working with The Outer Way to reveal the Warden's corruption and ultimately giving his life to ensure the solar system knows about all that happened at Black Iron.
Throwdown Breakdown:
I think this one is pretty open and shut.
While Hansen's actual military training does make him the more skilled fighter of the two, his arsenal is more grounded. Most of his weapons are standard fire arms, with the exception of the protein harpoon gun made to distract Exocel zombies, which would logically not work on an ordinary human being. This is compared to Jacob Lee's much more varied arsenal of sci-fi guns, literally decades more advanced than Hansen's.
In a contest of hand to hand combat, Hansen would dominate. In a straight fire fight, Hansen would outmaneuver Jacob and pop his exposed head off. But the issue here is Jacob's superior technology. The kinetic hammer is bulky emough that Hansen can easily dodge around it, while the stun baton would struggle to get through Hansen's incredible pain tolerance. However, the Gravity Restraint Projector could easily throw Hansen back before he can get the upper hand or potentially even allow Jacob to ragdoll him to death right there, mitigating Tom's skill and training advantage. As for a fire fight, Jacob's homing bullets would simply go around any cover that Tom tries to exploit and hit him in the brain before he outsmart Jacob, while the Gravity Restraint Projector would let Lee through his grenades right back at him.
In scenarios where Tom wins this, he does so by ambushing Jacob before he can react and quickly subduing him with his superior training. In most situations, however, he wouldn't be able to due to his lack of familiarity with Jacob's technology, as no such tech exists in his universe. And once Tom did realize the threat Jacob posed, it would be too late, as his more grounded arsenal doesn't give him the tools he needs to counter them.
This Throwdown's Winner is...

Do you still play Fortnite? What do you think about the current season? I hate the ballistic shield and I wish it'd go away.
It's funny getting a "do you still play Fortnite?" ask basically a month after I wrote a big post about Fortnite's "metaverse" reboot. I also run a side-channel that at this point is like, 25% stream vods and 75% Fortnite clips.
youtube
But that was a month ago. We've had patches that have changed some of the stuff I talk about in that article.
I... like this season a lot more now that they upped the movement speed. You aren't quite as fast as you were in old Fortnite, but you're fast enough. The way this chapter launched, it felt like player movement was SO sluggish, and like I said in my big post, the fact that outrunning the storm was a major problem felt super weird to me. I think I also said this in the post, but it's like a completely new team came in and un-solved a lot of old problems, only to find they then had to re-solve what they broke.
I don't mind ballistic shields all that much, but you're also talking to a guy whose first Counter-Strike game was Condition Zero. A shield guy can be annoying to deal with, but I'm also usually a shield guy. And shield guys are not invincible, let me tell you. Especially not here, with them having shields stagger after you take a certain amount of damage.
What's getting to be frustrating to me are snipers. Again in keeping with "unsolving problems that were already solved", Fortnite kind of developed a silent rule that guns probably shouldn't do 200 damage (the maximum amount of health and shields). They even started getting cheeky with it -- I remember sometimes there have been guns that deal 190, 195, even 199 damage. There was one particular mythic super-gun one season that I seem to recall dealing 201 damage on a headshot; literally one 1hp over the maximum health limit.
The current chapter 5 sniper rifle at orange (max non-mythic) rarity does like 290 damage on a headshot. Even in Zero Build, where they give you an extra overshield buffer, this thing will punch through all shields and all health and is a guaranteed one-shot-kill if you nail your target in the head.
I think they made it that strong because of the new bullet drop mechanics they've been slowly introducing. Bullets react to physics and naturally fall over long distances now, theoretically making it harder to hit people because you have to account for time and gravity. All that really means is that once the pros adjust to that, they have lots of easy cannon fodder, because even a blue rarity is enough to put down most players.
So I'll be walking, not another soul around me, it's totally silent, and I'll just drop dead out of nowhere because some dude 200 meters away clocked me with his sniper rifle. I had full shields, full health, but this guy has a combined 40,000 hours between Fortnite, Call of Duty, and PUBG, so I guess I don't deserve to exist in the same zip code as him.
And -- AND! Whereas the previous super-powered rifle (the Heavy Sniper) was a one-shot-per-clip gun, meaning you had to unload and reload a new bullet every time you pulled the trigger, this instantly-kills-you-dead rifle has a three shot clip. Not instantly dead on the first shot? You have two more chances to get it right. Absurdity.
Also I think the attachments system is still stupid, what they did to wraps is still awful, and the new locker system continues to be an absolute travesty. At best, a lot of Chapter 5's new features feel not ready to launch and totally half-baked.
But BR is in an okay state right now, I guess. I wish and hope the map evolves over the course of a season like it used to, though. I miss the days of hunting gnomes and bears, or seeing what the rock family was up to, or tracking the progress of different vehicles as they moved across the map.

When it comes to shooter games, depending on the genre and game, they can be quite fun! I've played several, mainly Halo Infinite, Splitgate, Titanfall 2, Team Fortress 2, and a couple battle royales like Apex Legends and PUBG. I've lately been intrigued by the tactical shooter genre. Slower-paced shooters that require tactical thinking instead of map knowledge and fast pacing. There's a channel I've been watching that really takes that genre professionally, the military way (even to the point of role-playing). While watching their videos, and playing some games, something started to tug at my mind. And lemme pitch this take. A vast majority of us get a jolt of satisfaction when we take one from the other team, and that hype heightens when it comes to chain kills. While we revel, the other side suffers in a few areas. I mean, I hate it too, being on the receiving end of a quick-scope. Most times, you can respawn. But what about in real life? Say you were out there, and you were fatally shot by someone. And they're cheering about it! Now say you were out there, and you fatally shot someone. And you cheer about it!
Replace that victim you shot, with either your best friend, or a copy of yourself. And that person isn't coming back. No apologies or a "We good bro?" phrase. You'll never see that person again. I've been starting to feel that way, and that's why I've strayed from most shooters where other players are the targets. This feels a little more convicting as I'm also striving to follow Christ, trying to be a good example of a Christian. I have no problem dishing out bullets to robots like either Helldivers 2 or Generation Zero, but to other players humans? I say this so as not to get the mentality of pleasure if, Lord-forbid, I take a life. I never want to take a life irl, so why should I train myself to do it in a game? It's food for thought, and I thought I'd pitch that out there.

Are korean free to play shooters a byegone era?
Are korean free to play shooters a byegone era? Really popular games like AVA, Sudden Attack, Operation 7, War Rock, Combat Arms, CrossFire. All these games pulled in a huge audience from Korea/America/Brazil. All these games were so much fun (and they were free) With games like CS2 being f2p now and games like COD Warzone, pubg, fortnite ect. All being free to play. You never hear about those amazing korean shooter free to play games anymore. Are they still a thing on PC? Or did they all move over to mobile? korean shooters were oddly satisfying to play beacuse they always had kill sprites for when you killed someone (double kill, multi kill, fantastic) ect. CrossFire and combat arms having the best ones imo. I just learned about some chinese clone of CSGO that's been really popular lately (because everyones getting fed up with CS2's current state) and it's clearly a CSGO clone but with different weapons and all the same maps you know and love but slightly altered. So it got me wondering if these chinese/Korean/brazil clone games were still a thing. Because I Know that most of them died out, combat arms and ava still pulls in some players, but not many anymore (but not surprising considering they're almost 20 year old games) Submitted October 22, 2024 at 10:32AM by ZooterTheWooter https://ift.tt/OwNGtKV via /r/gaming

Students should not be allowed to play PUBG games.
Online games have become so prevalent in today's world that almost every child and teenager plays them. Some play to pass the time, some to relax, and some are completely addicted to online games. The popularity of these games has grown during the Corona pandemic. Kids used to spend the entire day playing internet games because they had no schoolwork to worry about.
One of the most famous games in the online world is PUBG. It has received 100 million downloads on the Android Play Store and gained widespread notice. Children got completely enthralled with this game and used to play for endless hours. Although the game's focus on using various types of guns to murder other players is bad for kids' physical and emotional health, To overcome this problem, it is crucial to consider children's futures and well-being to solve this issue.
So, in this article, we'll talk about the negative outcomes of PUBG and tell you why kids shouldn't be permitted to play it.
PUBG: An Online Game
PUBG is a free-to-play battle royale game created by Quantum Studio and LightSpeed, a division of Tencent Games. It is an action shooter game where 100 participants battle until there is one individual, duo, or team of four left standing.
Every PUBG player jumps out of a plane at the start of the game wearing only cosmetic apparel and without any equipment. The players must race to gather weapons and armor before their rivals do to prevent an early death. After landing somewhere on the massive 8*8 km map, players loot other contestants' weapons by killing them. Ultimately, the team that has the most survivors will prevail.
Why shouldn't students be permitted to play PUBG?
The addiction to PUBG makes students less focused in the classroom. It diminishes their mental ability, concentration power, and personality development process. Although addiction not only harms students in academic matters but also affects them in several other ways, Here are some of the reasons why students should not be permitted to play PUBG.
Firstly, the addiction to PUBG doesn’t allow pupils to complete their homework or assignments on time, resulting in poor school performance. By not completing their assignments timely, pupils are not able to understand what the teacher is teaching in the class, which eventually lowers their grades.
Secondly, long-term play with PUBG increases the risk of developing severe obesity and that will undoubtedly cause students to experience serious health problems. Due to prolonged periods of inactivity and staying in one spot with the same posture, children's muscles and joints become weaker.
Thirdly, playing PUBG for extended periods can result in brain attacks. While playing the game, the player experiences such high stress and excitement that enormous bleeding, sometimes known as necrosis, occurs within the brain regions.
Fourth, addiction to this game can lead to sleeping problems in teens and students. Individuals who play PUBG for long hours may be at higher risk of sleep deprivation and disorders, such as obesity and poor metabolic health.
Apart from that, one PUBG battle will undoubtedly go up to 40 minutes or an hour. Playing four to five complete matches indicates that students would lose four to five hours of their day, which will reduce their creativity and productivity.

Negative effects of PUBG
Online game addiction causes several negative effects as it reduces children’s level of concentration and attentiveness. It greatly interferes with the healthy lifestyle of a student and slows down their brain activities. The following examples show how PUBG has a negative impact on children's way of living.
Discourages family time
Internet games such as PUBG are made to be played over and over again. Once a child develops an addiction to this game, it is quite challenging for him to break free of it. However, children cannot pause the game once they have started. This is the cause of youngsters' PUBG addiction and engagement, which makes them unconcerned with their families. They simply like playing online, putting themselves apart from their loved ones.
Creates distraction
Due to children’s PUBG addictions, they desire to play for extended periods. Kids who play PUBG are so engrossed in the game that they are oblivious to their surroundings. They make unending efforts to win the game. Their entire attention and efforts are devoted to this online game. As a result, students lose focus on their studies, which eventually has a detrimental effect on how well they do in class.
With the assistance of "study24hr.com", you can overcome this addiction and brighten your future. It is the top platform in India, with the mission of improving students' academic performance and comprehension abilities. The site allows kids to access various study materials, including mock test papers, daily boosters, quizzes, academic notes, etc. In addition, "study24hr.com" provides educators and learning institutes with a fantastic opportunity to broadcast class lectures on their websites and receive leads from students.
Aggressive behavior
In PUBG, there are different teams, each of which has three to four players. If any player is unable to win the game for whatever reason, he becomes aggressive. The teammates start yelling and berating each other for losing the game. This rough behavior in children causes problems and anger issues.
Increases violence
Spending a lot of time playing shooting games can lead to violent ideas, feelings, and actions that eventually harm the player's mental health. Youngsters lose their feelings of compassion and empathy when they fail to win the game. Yet, the main focus of PUBG is using a range of weapons to shoot other players. When this game gets too personal, gamers may utilize realistic-looking weapons to kill other players.
Conclusion
In the end, it is concluded that PUBG should be outlawed as it ruins children’s career growth and development. When more kids become attracted to this game, they divert their attention from academics. Also, they miss out on so many important things in their lives. So, it is imperative to consider this issue in order to protect children from such harmful addictions.
