Maelric Veyron Arcenaux, now 28, is the last living member of a powerful voodoo family, once revered for their deep connection to magic, the nature and spirits of the swamp. He mostly uses earth magic, works with crystals, bones, herbs and other plants like his mother did. At 23, a dark magic sorceress with malicious power caused the mysterious disappearance of his parents, Jean-Baptiste and Moirae Arcenaux, and his younger sister, Aimé. Despite the years that have passed, Maelric refuses to believe they are dead and continues to search for them, clinging to the hope that they are still alive.

Now living alone in the heart of the Louisiana swamps, Maelric runs a tavern called 'The Swamp’s Vein', a refuge for all kinds of mystical beings seeking shelter from the outside world. His only companions are Onyx and Coral, two loyal alligators he raised as a child. Though the pain of his loss lingers, Maelric’s life is dedicated to uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of his family.
