Today is a long travel day, first a 5-hr train ride and ten a 1-hour bus ride to our rustic, nature preserve. On the way to our nature preserve, we stopped by a spring, said to give pure water, which the locals bathe in to purify their soul. It is some kind of a Hindu ritual to cleanse your body and soul of defilements. Just about the all locals who participate in this ritual are Muslims.

Steve, our group member, decided to join the locals and take a plunge in the pool. Ever since, Steve seems to be a changed man, and our group voted unanimously that he now has that serene aura of an “enlightened” person.

The nature preserve (PPLH Seloliman) is an Environmental Education Center where school kids spend some time (up to 5 days), learning about the environment, sustainability (agriculture power, and flora & fauna). They even generate their own hydropower; the surplus being used to provide electricity to about 300 homes in the neighborhood.

Foreigners who spend the night help fund for the support of the preserve. The reserve director, who took us on a tour of the reserve, told us that profits from our group of eight staying here for the night will help with planting about 100 trees. That was a feel-good cause for support for us.
