Okay follow up question, idk if this is a Tennessee-specific issue or if California was the weird one: In California, any time I'd go to a new doctor, they'd have me fill out a form so they could get my medical records from previous doctors. My PCP was so on top of it that any time he heard I'd gone to urgent care or the ER or whatever he'd have me fill out the form again next time I saw him so he could get those records In Tennessee, none of my doctors that are in different networks have ever asked to access my previous records???? None of them have access to my California records and they don't even have access to my other Tennessee records! Do your new doctors usually have you fill out the form to get access to your previous medical records, or do they just take you at your word when you say you have a health issue?? Seriously, I found out recently the only records my current docs have besides my in-network ones (that only go back a year) are my records of prescriptions at the pharmacy, and even that might be limited.
Hey y'all! Weird question time again! Legally, according to HIPAA laws in the US in general and in California and Tennessee specifically, can you call up a doctor and have them mail you your medical records without proving in any way shape or form that you are you? One of my docs from back in California is mailing me my records and on the one hand, good for me that was easier than expected, and on the other hand, all I did was call and leave a voicemail??? I didn't even confirm my birthday! I just said my name and the year I had last visited the doctor in question. They have no way of knowing this is me
