Comparing Copper vs. Aluminum Welding Cables: Which is Better?
Welding cables are an essential component in any welding operation, and choosing the right material can impact performance, safety, and cost. Copper and aluminum are the two most commonly used materials for welding cables. Both have distinct advantages and disadvantages, which can make it challenging to decide which is better for your specific needs. In this blog, we’ll compare copper and aluminum welding cables, evaluating their key properties to help you make an informed decision.
1. Electrical Conductivity
Copper: Copper is known for its excellent electrical conductivity. In fact, it has the highest electrical conductivity of any metal, making it the ideal material for power transmission. The high conductivity ensures efficient current flow, which is crucial in welding applications where reliable power transfer is essential. A copper welding cable can carry more current with a smaller gauge size compared to aluminum.
Aluminum: Aluminum has lower electrical conductivity than copper, about 60% that of copper. This means that for the same current, an aluminum welding cable must have a larger diameter than a copper one to carry the same amount of electricity. While aluminum may require a larger cable size, it can still handle the necessary current, just with more material.
Verdict: Copper wins in terms of electrical conductivity, but aluminum can still be a viable option for applications where a larger cable size isn’t a concern.
2. Weight and Flexibility
Copper: Copper is a relatively dense metal, making it heavier than aluminum. This added weight can be a disadvantage, especially when cables need to be moved frequently or in applications where portability is essential. However, copper is also more flexible, which can make it easier to work with in certain installations or for longer cable runs.
Aluminum: Aluminum is much lighter than copper, often by as much as 50%. This makes aluminum welding cables easier to handle, especially for mobile welding setups where lightweight equipment is preferred. However, aluminum is less flexible than copper, which could make it harder to maneuver in tight spaces or challenging environments.
Verdict: Aluminum wins when it comes to weight, while copper offers more flexibility. Depending on your application, you might prioritize one over the other.
3. Cost
Copper: Copper is generally more expensive than aluminum due to its higher material cost. For large-scale welding operations where long lengths of cable are needed, this difference can become significant. However, because copper is more efficient in conducting electricity, a smaller gauge size can be used, which somewhat offsets the higher material cost.
Aluminum: Aluminum is less expensive than copper, making it an attractive option for those looking to reduce material costs. Even though you may need a larger cable diameter for the same conductivity, aluminum’s overall cost remains lower than copper. This makes aluminum an excellent choice for budget-conscious projects.
Verdict: If cost is a major concern, aluminum has the advantage. However, you must also account for the need for larger cable sizes to compensate for the lower conductivity.
4. Durability and Corrosion Resistance
Copper: Copper is highly resistant to corrosion, especially when coated. This makes it an ideal choice for welding cables exposed to outdoor or harsh environments. Additionally, copper’s durability means it can withstand wear and tear over long periods, extending the cable’s overall lifespan.
Aluminum: Aluminum is more susceptible to corrosion, particularly in moist environments. However, aluminum cables are often coated or treated to improve their resistance to environmental factors. While less durable than copper, modern aluminum cables have become more robust thanks to these coatings.
Verdict: Copper is the better option for durability and corrosion resistance, particularly for harsh environments where long-term exposure is a concern.
5. Heat Resistance and Safety
Copper: Copper has a higher melting point than aluminum, making it more resistant to overheating. In welding applications, where high currents are common, copper’s superior heat resistance can enhance safety by reducing the risk of overheating or melting under heavy electrical loads.
Aluminum: Aluminum has a lower melting point and can be more prone to heat buildup, which could lead to safety concerns in high-current applications. While this isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, it’s something to consider, particularly in demanding welding environments.
Verdict: Copper is safer in terms of heat resistance, making it a better choice for heavy-duty welding where overheating is a concern.
6. Applications
Copper: Copper welding cables are ideal for heavy-duty industrial applications, high-current welding machines, and environments requiring durability and flexibility. Industries like construction, automotive, and shipbuilding often rely on copper cables for their performance and reliability.
Aluminum: Aluminum welding cables are well-suited for light to medium welding applications. They are often used in temporary setups or mobile operations where weight and cost are prioritized over maximum conductivity and durability.
Verdict: Copper is better for industrial, high-performance applications, while aluminum is a good choice for lighter, more mobile projects.
Conclusion: Which Is Better?
Ultimately, the choice between copper and aluminum welding cables depends on your specific requirements. If you need maximum electrical conductivity, flexibility, and durability, copper is the better choice, particularly for heavy-duty applications. However, if cost and weight are your primary concerns, aluminum is a viable alternative that offers excellent performance for less demanding welding operations.

you must imagine a boy in his room. there is a speaker that plays only nightcore remixes of glass breaking compilations. it is never turned off, only up or down. the boy himself sleeps in an uncomfortable pile of laundry and wakes up with Xs imprinted on his face from the zippers on all the tripp pants.
he has very little to eat, mostly energy drinks and sour candy and scraps of wifi. his floor is littered with the bones of pcbs that he's gnawed all the usable material off of. when he gets hungry enough, he chews the pvc off whatever cables he can find. he probably has lead poisoning. he's probably retarded forever.
his main hustle was completing corporate safety, diversity, and sexual harassment trainings on other people's behalves. he stole an api key and used the unlimited gpt credits to automate a scripting workflow. this hustle ended when he realized that selling his customer list back to the companies was more profitable.
all of his free time is spent in a trance state iterating on his own mental architecture. he's only just figured out how to open VMs in his mind and is deciding how much malware he wants to try and download.
he will eventually die after overdosing on pcp and completely bricking himself trying to run a cracked version of ableton live in his brain.

I wrote a mini essay on the balor and I want to get it out of the discord server. some of this might be outdated.
Balor Report The following assumes one is doing a nanowhip build Balor.
Mobility: Pankrati 2, skirmisher 2, and Agility 2 are more than sufficient for mobility purposes, Sunzi is actually unnecessary and Balor can very comfortable achieve its foundational mobility by LL3 at the cost of executioner 3 and Hull 4 which both have to wait till LL4.
Heat Resistance: Lesson of Disbelief! 2 investment in systems or engineering depending on if one is branching out into tech attacking or focusing on raw damage would be wise, but is not a priority.
Presence: Even without swarm body, skirmisher executioner with the whip allows for insane combat oppression.
Takeaway: sunzi can outright be dropped in favor of IPSN investment for the HP, size, or threat core bonus at LL6, the quest is just what you want from IPSN for specifics. Avoiding heat gen is still important. Hull 4 is sufficient HP investment for the most part, so I'd actually suggest investing in Engineering or systems at LL5-6.
Addendum: Balor 3 Black Witch 3 is very good, as most of the IPSN license are wholly unneeded by Balor build. to put it in Morrowind terms, from the perspective of "solving problems", ISPN does not, but also threat 4 whip and hull save acc. further enhances the insanity of the balor so its hard to pass up. Black Witch on the other hand provides the ferrous lash, the PCP, and the black ice module. These immensely help patch of existing weak points of the Balor by providing it further tech resistance, allied support, and control effects. Magnetic shield is good but may not fit due to SP cost, and I'd say that the balor benefits more from having swarm/hive nanites than mag cannon. Also +2 evasion core bonus further assists the Balor's survivability, allowing you to perform some insane feats of frontlining.
Balor Synergy Options
Sunzi: Accelerate and Blink charges are excellent. HA Core Bonus Synergy: Low. IAF or SBD are good options, the former for blink charges, the latter for shoring up Balor's weaknesses. Low rating is due blink charges being an unsustainable luxury that runs counter to the Balor's speciality, and the Balor's poor reactor can be better mitigated by giving it protection from tech, such as from the next entry-
Black Witch: Ferrous Lash, Black Ice, and PCP. Black Ice especially combines with Lesson of Disbelief to turn a normally witch-fearing frame into a witch-hunter. SSC Core Bonus Synergy: Moderate. Evasion allows for more front-lining, others not really useful.
Lancaster: Cable Winch, Restock, Whitewash. CW traps them into melee with you, restock drone is some nice team support, and whitewash can slow enemies for pankrati as well as supporting allies and saving civilians. IPSN Core Bonus Synergy: !ridiculously high! Formorian Frame increases combat presence, since threat 3 extends from all tiles, and taking house guard will allow you to acquire guardian to be an incredibly defender presence. Gyges frame is obviously threat 4 whip but also shoutout to +1 acc Hull for further enhancing survivability. lots of nasty things are hull saves. and Reinforced Frame of course further enhances your natural regen.

Wow I was unconscious from about 8am to lunchtime and missed 4 calls, my PCP checking on me, physical therapy for my jaw asking about scheduling, My DM that sadly has nothing to do with dragons also checking on me, and a deal on cable! My rainbow check marks are gone. My redbubble is suspended and it will take two weeks to “know” if I will be reinstated. I put know in quotes because one of the options is they decide I won’t be reinstated and just never contact me, they definitely owe me money btw and unfortunately are the most legit inconsistent form of income I have right now. My jaw does feel a little better. Last night and this nap today is the first good sleep I’ve gotten in over a week.
I don’t even have the energy to write about my tags not working but I will say I was going to do one of those start typing tags memes like “I love…” “I hate…” you guys it’s fucking pointless. They are all generic tags now. I don’t know how many times I’ve started to type in keywords of tags I used to use and am absolutely ATTACKED by general garbage from tumblrs I don’t even follow. For instance if I try to get tumblr to pull up any form of “I need a table. I need an outside. I need a table outside with you” I will instead get things like “i need to lose weight” and that auto suggest garbage needs to get the fuck away from me. I used to be able to protect myself by choosing who I surrounded myself with but now it’s just unfiltered garbage. I used to be able to re-teach my tags to tumblr but this time around tumblr seems unteachable. Oh look. I had a little energy to talk about it. I can have it all. If I get autosuggests like “I hate my body” again. I might just burn everything down.
#jennhoney personal log#today is a lot#and I feel like that is really saying something considering the past decade#still wanna cry but I guess I’ll go fucking exercise#i wish my fucking tags worked#another great job tumblr#🔥👍🔥#i need my rainbow back

Don't know why I'm having this stress-induced complete inaction (I've been trying to get out of the chair to put my dishes away, have not moved one iota). I don't really have anything I'm stressing about.
I would like to get dressed and go outside. I would get so much pleasure from putting on jeans and going outside. I don't know why I'm slapping leg like I do when it is 8:30 AM and I'm supposed to be leaving the house but I am still in bed. I am not even in bed right now. I'm in the recliner.
What I have done today:
Eaten food.
Attempted to set up the Wii again after it was "temporarily" taken down so that we could replace our perfectly fine TV with a smart TV 🙄. This was March of.... 2022? 2021??? I hurt my back trying to move the TV so I could not re plug in the Wii.
Realized that in the intervening years I don't know what happened to the adapter cables my mom bought.
Tried and failed to clean out an exploded battery from my GameCube controller.
Realized I didn't know what happened to the Wii controllers so even if I hooked this up to the old TV upstairs I couldn't test out my sister's birthday present (used AC game for the Wii from GameStop, if I find something wrong in seven days they can replace it).
Tested out the used AC game I also got her for the DS instead.
Turns out I do not like AC games. I didn't have any problems so I think the DS game will work for her.
Things I'd like to do today:
Walk??
Physical therapy exercises?????
Queue up polls for the second podcast poll blog?
Things on the horizon for me to do:
Okay my work schedule has been rearranged at the last minute this week because two of my coworkers are sick and it's summer reading but I'm the one who rearranged it! And there's only going to be one clopening!
Nothing.
D&D on Sunday I think???
Like even my class today was cancelled yesterday because my grandma's feeling poorly.
Like okay sure I need to schedule a PCP appointment.
And oh shit I should have called the BiPAP people today.
And maybe do some math about how much more money I can make without being kicked off of Medicaid.
But like. I wasn't planning on doing any of that today.
Oh, read some books and return overdue books to the library.
Like I have been so busy (for me). That's over now. Maybe I could have expected the crash but why is the crash expressing itself as overwhelmed and stressed out?

Soul Quest Overdrive #1: “Pilot” | ca. February 21, 2010 (online) | S00E01
Yet another failed pilot from our friends at Adult Swim (sponsored by Burger King). This one is the somewhat ballyhooed spin-off of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode “Bible Fruit”. Bert Banana, Tammy Tangerine, and Mortimer Mango are now just Bert, Tammy, and Mortimer. Instead of being fruit, they are now sports equipment, with Bert being a bowling pin, Tammy being a basketball, and Mortimer being a flesh light carrying-case. The animation is also totally different. But the voices are still the same; they even get to use their real names in the credits (on THIS?!).
The dynamic is roughly the same, too, with them being mostly horrible people, and Bert being mostly the worst. In this pilot episode, Bert runs the RV off a cliff and it lands on a guy, who suffers tremendously while they waffle on how to help. They throw away his car jack because it’s made of science and not god. Bert smokes PCP to lift the car but instead hallucinates that Jesus Christ (voiced by Paul Reubens), has rolled up in an American-flag patterned tank. Jesus seduces Bert but then transforms into a tiger. In the non-hallucinatory reality, Bert is just in a dumpster freaking out. The guy pinned under the car uses his car keys to saw off his top half to crawl away, but is picked up by a bird of prey. The end.
Another notable thing about the show is that it’s actually less than half as long as a typical 11-minute Adult Swim show; presumably they were going to air two installments in each 11 minute slot. When four episodes of this aired back-to-back-to-back-to-back it filled a 30 minute time slot with commercials. I vaguely recall conversations at this time about Adult Swim experimenting with making their programming even shorter, with things like this coming out of it. In general, a lot of people liked to make a lotta hay about how attention spans were getting shorter, so short-form entertainment needed to become even more short-form. I guess this sorta thing presaged their “Smalls” program of programs.
At the time this was too hard of a concept to comprehend, because back then TV was made out of a grid in your cable box with the schedule displayed in oblong boxes, and the idea of quarter-hour shows was already too weird for words. It just didn't look right in those oblong boxes. Like, too short to even display the title. How could one even dream of changing the scale of the traditional 90-minute-wide cable guide schedule matrix??
The most notable thing about this show is that it FUUUUUCKING SUUUUUUUUUUCKS. Honestly, this is some proto-Mr.-Pickles bullshit. I once watched season six of Saturday Night Live, because I wanted to see just how bad it was. It was bad, but more capable than I was expecting. But the thing that irked me about that version of SNL was that it just seemed like it was joylessly ticking off boxes to prove itself as being worthy to succeed the original cast SNL. See? We did a drug joke! See, we did a joke about evangelicals!
Soul Quest Overdrive does this but for Adult Swim's pre-existing programming. See? We had a character do PCP and get gay with jingoistic Jesus! See, we had a guy with his intestines hanging out and the main characters were mean to him! See! The animation is ugly-ass on purpose! See! There's rebellious-sounding thrash metal in there! The show is ostensibly satire, but it feels like a masquerade. The whole thing is so repugnant that it’s impossible to see what seems like the shallowest observations about religion being gay or whatever. I mean, not gay, but bad. Sorry, everyone for calling this show “gay” like that. I’m simply as god made me.
But worst of all, they forgot to be funny.
Written by Nick Ingkatanuwat and John Brestan and allegedly Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis; I wonder if they actually wrote this or not and if their credit has to do with coming up with the characters. That whole thing of the show being reskinned seems oddly suspicious to me, and not just a creative choice. It seems like it would’ve made all the sense in the world to just have the original bible fruit star in a show. Anybody know what up with that? Do you think they did the redesign as an attempt but failed, and it was just too late by then?
I’ve touched on the Burger King-sponsored pilot contest that this sprang out of. That contest had a penchant for switching up the actual pilots; substituting one version of the pilot for a new version without really announcing it. This is the first episode to drop on the website, and is different from “Meals on Wheels”, which seems to have meant to be the “pilot” they were officially “competing” with.
I assume what happened was they already made a small order of episodes of this, so it was never really truly competing anyway. Maybe they assumed it would win in the voting. I simply do not know. Anyway, the date I gave is the earliest date I could find where it sprung up on my piracy website by choice. I believe the uploaders there were passionate enough about Adult Swim that their uploads are pretty accurate or as close to an official air-date as you can find.
Soul Quest Overdrive would eventually air all the episodes on television at 4AM one night. This episode never did resurface until I think somebody connected with the production posted it on vimeo or something. My viewing copy of this was pretty decent-looking. I’m not sure it was in HD, but it still looked better than it deserved to.

What to expect with the Derma roller and thread lift?
After rolling, the skin may:
Drain
Be red for several hours, some of the timeless
Feel like a sun-related burn
Expand at first (extremely minor)
Feel like your face is beating and the blood is circling
Less normally, takes a chance with include
Dull or light spots on the skin
Lines on the face (“cable car track” scarring)
Mouth blister discharge up
Enlarged lymph hubs
Disease
Individuals frequently botch the minor enlarging they experience for the blue phenomenon, however, the plumping impact you see at first will die down within a couple of days. In any case, as referenced prior, continued rolling has super-durable outcomes!
There will be some minor erythema (redness) for around 2 or 3 days, and the skin could begin stripping. If this happens, do whatever it takes not to pick at it! The stripping will tumble off normally over the long haul.
Hardened steel versus titanium derma rollers
Dermaroller treatment in Bangalore accompanies either hardened steel or titanium needles. Titanium is more solid since it’s a more grounded combination than tempered steel. This implies the needles will endure longer and the sharpness will not dull as fast.
In any case, tempered steel is innately more sterile. It’s additionally keener and dulls all the more rapidly. Treated steel is what clinical experts, tattoo craftsmen, and acupuncturists use.
In any case, in every practical sense, the two kinds will finish similar work.
Dermarollers can be viewed on the web. You don’t have to overcomplicate things and get a costly one. The less expensive ones will turn out great.
A few organizations likewise offer all-inclusive bundles, offering both roller and serums, even though their items might be pricier than buying everything independently.
What’s in store after a thread lift in Bangalore
Recuperation after an effective thread lift is very negligible. While there might be some noticeable expansion and swelling, you can return to work immediately assuming that you’d like.
Results ought to be evident just after the strings are established, yet you might see more in the long periods just after they are embedded, as enlarging and swelling begin to die down.
Results from a thread lift aren’t intended to be extremely durable. Fruitful impacts ordinarily last from 1 to 3 years. Like other dissolvable dermal fillers, for example, Botox, the strings utilized in the method will ultimately be consumed by the tissue under your skin.
After a thread lifts, you can continue your typical daily practice. Your supplier might prompt you not to rub your face energetically and to try not to rest on your side in the underlying weeks following the system.
The American Culture of Plastic Specialists prompts that you skirt your day-to-day cream for the initial not many weeks after a thread lift, and lay down with your headset up to try not to turn over onto the recently positioned stitches.
You’ll likewise be encouraged to keep away from saunas and extreme focus exercises for the main week or so after the thread lift is performed.
Planning for a thread lift
After talking with your supplier and booking your arrangement, you might be given a few rules for do’s and don’ts to get ready for your thread lift in Bangalore.
Do
Illuminate your PCP regarding any meds you’re utilizing preceding your technique
Attempt to unwind and stay away from stressors the night before your arrangement
Avoid any realized irritation triggers in your eating routine
Don’t
Drink liquor the night before a thread lift
Take blood-diminishing prescription or nonsteroidal calming drugs (NSAIDs, for example, ibuprofen, multi-week before your thread lift

How It All Began
For more, visit my blog at 1080Park.com . . .
My story leading up to the catheter ablation procedure went something like this:
- I was in pretty good physical shape. I was in my mid-30s.
- One night my heartbeat went crazy.
- I freaked out a bit, but calmly went to my personal doctor: Google.
- It took me all of 20 minutes to diagnose myself with Atrial Fibrillation (AF).
- I decided to sleep on it, and the next day my symptoms were gone.
- I was living overseas at the time, so I was a bit untrusting of the foreign medical system.
- Despite knowing the risks associated with AF, I stupidly decided to just live with it rather than treat it.
My AF symptoms came and went over the years, often brought on by a few distinct things: Adrenaline or quickly-induced stress, certain types of alcohol, strangely enough, laying back in a very distinct position on the couch, and (I think but not certain on this one) a large intake of sugar like eating a big desert at a restaurant. My irregular heartbeat did not seem to be triggered by caffeine as far as I could tell.
If I went into AF at any point, it would automatically go away on its own. Usually overnight, but almost always within 48 hours. At first I would have instances of it once a week or so, but over the years it began happening more often. Sometimes every other day. I continued my misguided approach of ignoring it because I didn’t ever really feel very poorly during the times I was in AF . I don’t remember ever feeling tired, fatigued, dizzy or short of breath. Sometimes I wouldn’t know I had it until I put my finger on my wrist to check my heart rate. If it was steady, I was good to go. If it was beating randomly, I knew I was in AF. I could run normally, and although my times weren’t super fast I don’t remember every missing a run or a strength workout because I was in AF.
I returned to live in the United States about three years after first realizing I had AF. During a routine annual physical with my primary care physician, he picked up on my AF and freaked out. I wanted to say, “Yo Doc, simmer down now. I’ve been living with this for a long time, and it’s not even bad right now. No need to panic. But panic he did. He acted like he found something that was found something that was an immediate threat to my life. He mentioned a few things I already knew like AF puts someone at an increased risk of stroke, etc. He ordered an EKG that confirmed what he heard through his stethoscope. I had AF. My secret was now out. He made such a big deal of it that I was too embarrassed to admit I already knew I had it. He had me follow him out of the exam room into his office where he proceeded to make a call to a cardiologist he knew and recommended. Using first names, he called in an obvious favor and got me a same-day visit with this specialist in AF. My PCP bid me farewell in a somewhat dramatic fashion, proud of his accomplishment in finding the AF and saving my life. (He really is a great PCP, and although I was certain he was overreacting he my have indeed ultimately saved me from a stroke by scaring me and highlighting that AF is something that should be dealt with sooner than later.)
The new cardiologist was awesome as well. He looked at the EKG I had taken an hour before and said, “Yep, you’ve got Atrial Fibrillation.” He was awesome. He stepped me through what was happening in my heart, and then helped me feel like a bit less of an invalid. He explained that it isn’t uncommon for long distance runners to develop AF. He had a very technical reason for why you can be in great physical shape with a very strong heart, but that extreme endurance training can sometimes trigger AF. He was very positive and went through the equation cardiologists use to assess the risk of stroke to patients with AF: CHA₂DS₂-VASc. (See my resources page for more information on this risk score and how it is used.) He basically “white boarded” out an equation to assign points to certain conditions. He explained each risk factor and why they were important. I was under 65 years old, male, no history of congestive heart failure, no hypertension, no history of stroke, no vascular disease history and no diabetes. Compared to someone with no diagnosis of AF, I was still at an increased risk for stroke, but I was on the lower end of the spectrum for those diagnosed with AF. He was awesome in that he made me feel good about the fact that I was in great shape and that this definitely made me healthier than most AF patients. But he stopped just short of making me feel like I had nothing to be concerned about. He thought I would be a perfect candidate for a cardiac catheter ablation, and explained the procedure in very basic terms. He referred me to another physician who does the ablation procedures, and said he wanted me to get started on the blood thinner Xarelto, and gave me a sample pack of the drug. In his notes on this visit, the doctor wrote the following: “Patient has asymptomatic atrial fibrillation of unclear duration. His atrial fibrillation is probably related to his high vagal tone as he is a marathon runner and quite athletic. His CHADS VAS score is 0 and aspirin should be sufficient. However, I have explained to him that personally, I prefer Xeralto or Eliquis. Furthermore, I anticipate eventual cardioversion or ablation and therefore, I will start patient on Xeralto 20 mg dally at bedtime.”
I didn’t see that third physician on the same day, but his staff helped me get scheduled for a stress echo to “rule out inducible ischemia or structural heart disease.”
Approximately two weeks later I reported to the third physician for the stress echo using the “Bruce (Accelerated)” protocol. (I’m not sure what that is, but I wrote it down.) I got wired up with a bunch of cables attached to my chest and ran on a treadmill for about 13 minutes. I wasn’t in AF at the time of the test, so I felt really strong and I think I did well in the stress test. The doctor commended me for reaching stage 7 of the protocol, but I’m not sure if he was being sincere or just knew I was competitive with running and wanted me to feel better about myself. From the Doctor’s notes: “Conclusions: 1. Excellent exercise tolerance. 2. Normal blood pressure and heart rate response to exercise. 3. Negative exercise echo tor Inducible ischemia or arrhythmia.”
So that was it. I went home feeling like I had killed the test. From this point on I continued to make bad decisions. I continued to blow off my new AF diagnosis because 1. I didn’t want to be on medications or blood thinners, and 2. the thought of having surgery on my heart when three weeks earlier I had run a half marathon averaging under 8 minute miles sounded crazy to me. So I decided to do some research on ablation to figure out if I’d still be able to be a runner after the procedure.
And two weeks later the entire country went on lockdown for COVID-19.
Most elective procedures were cancelled as we all tried to figure out how we were going to get through the pandemic. I was ok with that because I felt healthy. After all, I had been living with AF for a few years already. I saw no need to panic. I just continued running . . .
On many occasions I would begin a run knowing I was in AF, and then the irregular heartbeat would be snapped back to normal at some point during the run. This happened quite often with tempo runs. I wasn’t overly concerned about it because at first I didn’t recognize a decrease in performance. Later it became a bit more noticeable, and my Garmin Forerunner 945 had a problem with my AF.
There is a feature in the Forerunner to help you watch for abnormal heart rates. You can have the watch alert you if it detects an abnormally high or low heart rate. I left this feature on. Every so often, when I was in AF after a run it would trigger the alarm. Not during the run, mind you. For some reason it only triggered the alarm after I was cooling down. Maybe it was because the watch knew I was no longer running and was worried that my heart rate was still high when I should be recovering. Keep in mind my resting heart rate was around 42 bpm at that time.
I remember being angry following a run when I was in AF because my Garmin 945 got so confused. My VO₂ Max was 54 according to my Garmin, but after a run wherein my watch got super confused, it dropped my VO₂ Max down two points to a 52. I was mad! I had a particularly bad bought of AF and ran through it. Normally during a tempo run my heart rate would take a while to increase, and then would top out at around 150 when I was running at a perceived exertion rate of about 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.
During this run my heart rate was through the roof because of the AF. I might be making this up, but I’m pretty sure my Garmin watch sent me an alert during the run saying, “Did you give your watch to someone who isn’t in very good running condition by any chance?” (I hit the back key on my watch to blow off the notification.)
Later while still in AF during that same run:
Garmin: “Are you in imminent danger or running for your life?” Me: No. Shut up Garmin, it’s just my AF making you think my HR is way high.
5 minutes later. Garmin: “Need me to call 911 for you?” No, damnit, now leave me alone so I can complete this tempo run. It’s just AF and I’ll have a much lower heart rate the day after tomorrow when I try this again.
As I mentioned, my Garmin punished me after that run by dropping my VO₂ Max by two points. I was mad, and that was the point where I decided to have the ablation procedure. All because my watch downgraded what it assessed as my VO₂ Max following one time I ran during AF. Crazy right?
Next up: Choosing my surgeon. . .

Types of electric cables and their characteristics
An electric cable has the purpose of transporting electrical energy from one point to another. Depending on its final application, the cables can have different configurations, always basing their design according to national and international regulations. Next, we are going to delve into the different classifications that can be made around electrical cables.
The tension of an electrical cable is measured in volts and, depending on these, they are categorized into one group or another:
Low Voltage up to 750 V: in a variety of applications, and with thermoplastic and thermoset coatings. They are designed and built according to harmonized standards. Low Voltage up to 1,000 V: (also called (0.6 / 1 kV). The cables in this section are used for industrial power installations in various fields (general industry, public installations, infrastructures, etc.). They are designed according to standards international (UNE, IEC, BS, UL). Medium Voltage: from 1 kV to 36 kV. It is used to distribute electricity from electrical substations to transformer plants. High Voltage: from 36 kV. It is used to transport electricity from generating plants to electrical substations. Types of the electric cable by their use Low voltage cables
Cables for electrical panels
Flexible cables for electrical panel wiring. Easy and safe installations. Electric cables especially suitable for domestic use , for installation in public places, for individual branches and for internal wiring of electrical cabinets, switch boxes and small electrical appliances.
Power cables
Power cables for industrial facilities and public places. It is common to find power cables in single tap applications, for power transmission in all types of low voltage connections, for industrial use in demanding conditions, and for variable frequency drives (VFD).
Armored cables
Cables with aluminum or steel armor for installations with the risk of mechanical aggression. It is also common to find armored cables in places with the presence of rodents, as well as in installations in places with risk of fire and explosion (ATEX).
Rubber cables
The use of extra-flexible rubber cables is very varied. We can find rubber cables in fixed industrial installations and also in mobile service. Welding cables should be covered with rubber, which allows high currents to be transmitted between the welding generator and the electrode.
Halogen-free cables
The halogen-free cables High Security (AS) with low emission of smoke and corrosive gases in case of fire are suitable for use in wiring electrical panels and public premises, installations of all kinds in public places, individual branches, emergency circuits, public distribution networks, and also for mobile service.
Fire-resistant cables
These cables are specially designed to transmit electrical energy in the extreme conditions that occur during a prolonged fire, guaranteeing the supply to emergency equipment such as signaling, smoke extractors, acoustic alarms, water pumps, etc. It is recommended for use in emergency circuits in places of public attendance.
Control cables
The control cables for fixed or mobile installations it is desirable to be extremely flexible as they mainly use is designed for small appliances, for interconnection of parts of machines used for manufacturing, for signaling systems and control, for connecting motors or frequency converters, for signal transmission where the voltage induced by an external electromagnetic field can affect the transmitted signal or for power supply connections to avoid generating electromagnetic fields.
Instrumentation cables
These are flexible and shielded cables for the transmission of signals between equipment in industrial facilities . Especially suitable for optimal data transmission in environments with a high level of electromagnetic interference.
Solar cables
These are cables especially suitable for the connection between photovoltaic panels, and from the panels to the inverter from direct to alternating current. Thanks to the design of their materials and their cover that is especially resistant to solar radiation, as well as extreme temperatures, they can be installed outdoors with full guarantees.
Special cables
There is a wide variety of electrical cables for special installations such as temporary installations of light garlands at fairs; crane bridge, hoist, elevator and elevator connections; applications in submerged pumps and drinking water areas such as aquariums, purification systems, drinking water fountains, or in swimming pools for lighting, purification and cleaning systems.
Aluminum cables
The aluminum cables for power transmission are suitable for fixed installation indoors, outdoors, and/or buried.
Medium Voltage Cables
RHZ1
Medium Voltage Cable type RHZ1 with XLPE insulation, halogen-free, and flame, and/or fire-retardant. They are cables perfectly adapted for the transport and distribution of energy in Medium Voltage networks.
Components of an electric cable An electric cable is made up of:
Electrical conductor: that channels the electrical flow Insulation: covering and containing the electrical flow in the conductor. Auxiliary elements: that protect the cable and guarantee its longevity. Cover: covers all the mentioned materials protecting them from the outside. Types of electrical conductors Bare Wire Conductor - This is a single, non-flexible, uncoated, solid-state wire. Insulated wire conductor: it is the same as the bare wire conductor with the difference that it is covered by an insulating material. Flexible cable conductor: it is a set of fine wires covered by an insulating material. They are flexible and malleable. Cord conductor: it is a set of cables that have double insulation, that of each cable plus an additional one that encompasses them all. Unipolar cable: it is a cable that has a single conductor. Multipolar cable: it is a cable that has several conductors. Coaxial cable: it has a wire conductor inside protected by an insulating layer and a copper shielded mesh and finally with an outer covering. Twisted cable: these are twisted pairs of cables. Duplex cable: these are two parallel cables. Shielded cable: it is a set of cables covered by a metallic coating. Ribbon cable: they are a series of cables placed in parallel. Rigid cable: it is a difficult cable to deform. Flexible cable: it is an easy cable to deform. Copper electrical conductors: it is the most commonly used material. Aluminum electrical conductors: in some cases, aluminum conductors are also used, despite the fact that this metal is a 60% worse conductor than copper. Types of insulation for electric cable Insulation consists of placing an insulating coating on the conductor to prevent current leakage. They are classified into two large groups: thermoplastics and thermosets.
1. Thermoplastic insulation They are more common in the manufacture of electrical cables are:
PVC: Polyvinyl chloride Z1: Polyolefins PE: Linear polyethylene PU: Polyurethane 2. Thermoset insulation The most common are:
EPR: Ethylene Propylene XLPE: Cross-linked Polyethylene EVA: Ethyl Vinyl Acetate YES: Silicone PCP: Neoprene SBR: Natural Rubber Types of metal protections for electrical cables In some cases, the cables may have metal shields.
Screens: they are electrical metallic protections that are applied to isolate the signals that pass through the interior of the cable from possible external interferences. Armors: they are mechanical protections that protect the cable from possible external aggressions: animals, blows, etc. Nomenclature electrical cables according to standard Each cable has a standard designation. This denomination is made up of a set of letters and numbers, each with a specific meaning. This designation refers to a series of product characteristics (materials, nominal voltages, etc.) that facilitate the selection of the most suitable cable for your needs, avoiding possible errors in the supply of one cable by another.
When a cable does not clearly indicate these data, it may be a faulty cable, which does not comply with safety regulations or guarantee the useful life of the cable and its proper functioning.

3-Quinuclidinyl Benzilate is My New Favorite Chemical Weapon, A “Mason+Cable+Choices” Medical Review
This episode. This freaking episode.
First of all, Charlie Robinson, who I really thought was going to stick around in this version of the series after he survived his first episode, had to go and become the instrument to someone else’s revenge scheme. We also got to see a relatively hard side of Mac in the interrogation room, and I’m not sure whether to applaud it as character development or feel like they’re going too dark.
From a medical and whump standpoint, this episode sure has a lot of things covered- the gunshot wound, the neck needle, the 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate poisoning (Yay!), the heart needle/antidote, and the toxic smoke. I'm warning you now, most of this review is about the 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate poisoning.
The Gunshot Wound
Honestly, there’s not a lot to be said about the gunshot wound- it was to the outside of Charlie’s thigh, so while it would have been painful and probably would have bled some (the duct tape wouldn’t have helped stop the bleeding) it probably wouldn’t have been enough to really threaten his life. If he hadn’t later plummeted to his death, he might have needed some antibiotics, professional medical attention, and physical therapy.
Neck Needles
Neck needles aren’t a thing, but I’ve talked about those in previous posts.
3-Quinuclidinyl Benzilate Poisoning
Oh hey look, we’re already at 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate poisoning! And fam? this is where I really did my research.
If you’ve been on this blog long enough you know I like my chemical weapons. Not in a “kill everyone” way but in more of a “strong academic interest I may one day write a thesis about” way. And man, do I love having access to an academic library again. Whoo buddy. This was fun.
In the episode, Mason uses a chemical weapon called 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate (also noted in the episode as “BZ”), smuggled in a false tooth, to subdue Mac before making his escape from the interrogation room. The tooth contains QNB in an aerosol form, which when released forms a visible cloud in the room. Mac breathes the aerosol, which appears to instantly paralyze or possibly sedate him, while Mason takes advantage of the small amount of uncontaminated air in Mac’s water bottle before making his escape up the air vent. A security team makes their way to Mac, Desi calls for a med team, and Mac is revived with an antidote delivered by a needle straight to his heart.
When someone mentions chemical weapons, most people think of mustard gas or nerve agents. But poisons designed to torture and kill people aren’t the only things that fall into the category of chemical weapons. In fact, there’s a whole class of them, called “incapacitants” that are specifically designed to take people out of commission without a high risk of death or permanent disability.
Let me just say, Jim Adler is a writer after my own heart. He wrote both this episode and “Mac+Fallout+Jack” and considering both were absolutely gut-wrenching and contained reasonable choices of incapacitating agents, I really, really appreciate what he’s done for the canon. He didn’t get everything right here (*cough cough* neck and heart needles *cough cough*), but he clearly understands enough about drugging people to buy some literary license. Not all of it, but some.
Now, as I’ve talked about in other posts, drugging people into unconsciousness isn’t a particularly safe thing to do. Unconscious people can’t protect their airway, and most drugs that render people unconscious significantly impact their respiratory rate, blood pressure, or both. Unless the party doing the drugging is prepared to devote at least one trained person to monitoring and management of the drugged individual, there’s a chance that person could suffocate and die. Paralytic agents have a lot of the same issues.
This becomes even more problematic if you’re trying to incapacitate multiple people. Case in point- in 2002 a small group of Chechan rebels held over a 1,000 Russian civilians hostage in a theater in Moscow. After several days, in order to end the stand-off, Russian military personnel used what was probably an aerosalized opioid* to render everyone in the building unconscious. They then stormed the building and rescued the hostages. Unfortunately, even though antidotes were available and used, about 1 out of every 10 hostages ended up dying due to the mass drugging, which didn’t win any PR points for the use of incapacitating agents.
But if you get just slightly more creative, sedation and paralysis are not the only two ways to drug enemy combatants into uselessness. Turns out, a variety of hallucinogens and deliriants can achieve the same goal without the same risk of death by suffocation. If you can get someone to a state where they can’t remember what they’re doing or perform basic skills like reading or decision making, they can’t easily attack and kill your own personnel.
This is where 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate, (NATO code BZ, US Army code EA-2277, Soviet code Substance 78, and usually referred to as “QNB” in medical circles) starts to stand out. QNB is a deliriant and hallucinogen. Now, there are lots of drugs that fall into these categories- think LSD, ketamine, PCP, and atropine to name a few. QNB works very similarly to atropine, by selectively blocking the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (think the opposite of a nerve agent), but with significantly more of its action concentrated around the mind-altering side-effects. It’s also safer, hardier, more versatile, and has a more ideal onset and duration of action.
The typical course of incapacitation with QNB involves:
An initial period of progressively worsening anxiety, restlessness, and confusion
A period of extreme drowsiness
Finally, more confusion, an inability to perform simple tasks, difficulty with movement, hallucinations, and bizarre behaviors including picking at things, which all gradually wane over the course of 2-4 days.
Here are some reasons QNB stands out as a particularly effective incapacitant (and all the ways the episode ignored them):
The first is therapeutic index. A drug’s therapeutic index is the difference between its effective dose and it’s toxic dose. If we say a drug has a “narrow” therapeutic index, that means there’s a very small difference between an effective dose and a toxic one, while a “wide” therapeutic index means that the two doses are very different. When drugging someone without their knowledge, no matter how you’re delivering the drug, it’s really hard to estimate the actual ingested dose. Because of this, you want the widest possible range of effective-but-not-deadly doses you can have- the best drugs for mass druggings are those with the widest possible therapeutic indices.
QNB happens to have a very wide therapeutic index compared to other possibilities for incapacitants. The lowest effective dose is about 150 micrograms, while a toxic dose is more than 650 times that at about 100 miligrams. In small doses, the drug doesn’t last as long and causes more sedating vs delirious effect, but is still very useful in lowering the effectiveness of an enemy force.
The second is its options for route and availability in an environment. How any drug is given is referred to the route of administration. These can include:
PO (oral- taken as a pill or liquid)
IV (intravenous- injected into a vein)
IM (intramuscular- injected into a muscle)
SC (subcutaneous- injected into fat)
IO (intrasseous- injected into a bone in an emergency)
Inhaled (breathed and absorbed through blood vessels in the lungs)
PR (rectal- given rectally)
Transdermal (absorbed through the skin)
Most drugs work best when administered a certain way, and some may only be produced for use by a certain route. Some, like ketamine or LSD, can’t be absorbed in the stomach, so giving them orally doesn’t work (LSD “tabs” are actually absorbed through the mucous membrane in the mouth). QNB’s advantage is that it can be given by any route. You want to drug food or drink? It works. Aerosolize it and pump it into the air? Also works. Inject it IM, SC, or IV? Yes but you might have to answer some questions. Coat something like a doorknob? It goes through skin too!
QNB is particularly suited as an aerosol, not because it readily evaporates, but because it’s odorless. No one would even know they were breathing it until it started working, and even then, they might not know what happened. It also stays in the environment for a long time- up to several weeks depending on conditions- and can survive extreme heat without degrading, so it could be disbursed via explosive (LSD would not survive). Bottom line, everyone that came into that room to rescue Mac was contaminated, probably enough to cause them problems. Also, so was Mason, so take that as you will.
The third is the drug’s onset and duration of action. In the episode Mac is almost instantly incapacitated when the spray hits his face. This is not how any drug works (even via the IV route, the quickest-onset drugs still take at least 15-30 seconds to be felt), but particularly not QNB. QNB has an onset time of about an hour, no matter the route. This is actually beneficial to the drug’s original purpose- if no one shows symptoms from drugging with an odorless aerosol until an hour after exposure, there’s no way to take protective measures. Suddenly everyone’s hallucinating and can’t do basic math. Sucks for that attack plan you were working on.
The fourth and final benefit that QNB provides is both it’s lack of (specific) antidote and the fact that there are no lasting effects. Some people point to physostigmine as a possible antidote, but it’s not perfect and has some incapacitating side effects of its own. As incapacitation with QNB is generally not life threatening, it’s probably better for most people to be cared for in a safe place and ride out the effects. Since it’s also not a carcinogen or mutagen, once the effects subside, there shouldn’t be any additional problems.
Phew. Okay.
Heart Needles
I swear I’ve talked about heart needles before, but I’ll do it again since it hasn’t been recently. In the episode, Mac is injected with an antidote directly into his heart. Now, like we said before, using an antidote wouldn’t really help him much, and its not really necessary. He’s just gonna have to ride it out (I don’t make the rules...).
But they chose to do it, so we should talk about it- in the pre-CPR era, intracardiac injections represented the only way of getting emergency medications like epi to the heart in the case of cardiac arrest. As late as 1992, there were still some groups advocating for it if the patient was in asystole (flatline) and IV or IO access couldn’t be obtained. Mac has excellent veins if I do say so myself, and he also wasn’t coding, so there’s no reason for this to have been a thing in the episode. It’s also never used today.
Also, I’m going to be particularly disappointed if that was just a callback to the similarly inaccurate Pulp Fiction scene. Because this show has already used epi to counter an acetylcholine-based problem, and you already only get to do that once. EPINEPHRINE IS NOT AN ALL-PURPOSE ANTIDOTE.
Jim Adler based on your other work I have to assume you know better.
Also it’s late and I’m not talking about the toxic smoke. See my many posts on cyanide and some time in the future come read my post on carbon monoxide.
*According to the book Chemical Warfare: Secrets Almost Forgotten by James Ketchum, who did a lot of the initial research on chemical incapacitants. Other sources reference the drug used as anything from traditional nerve agents to QNB itself, but the onset times and symptoms initially reported seem to match up better with an opioid than QNB.

So to make less of a vague post about what’s going on with me right this minute I’m including the run down under the list for concerned friends.
Everything started off this weekend where I was supposed to have mandatory overtime on Saturday for my new job. That ended up not happening for a lot of complicated reasons. Sunday was fine though I was really exhausted. I woke up on Monday morning and had the worst anxiety and depression attack I’d experienced since leaving the cable-company-that-shall-not-be-named. And I do mean BAD. (Panicked and anxious thoughts spiral, almost no energy, urge to vomit because of stress, crying, feelings of hopelessness, panic attacks about what happened if I didn’t move, etc.)
So I called in to work for the third time in as many weeks completely sure that my boss was going to fire me, and instead of firing me directly she ‘accepted my resignation’ which was a bit of a surprise for me. I at least expected to have to work for at least another week or so to get my things in order. This means I’m out of a job again, but I don’t have the part time library job to fall back upon like I did before so I am currently not making any income. So I filed for unemployment and spoke to my partner about filing for disability benefits.
Since I already had a yearly physical set up with a new primary care physician I wanted to hold off on filing anything for disability until I had my doctor’s visit. That appointment was, uh, less than stellar.
My new PCP, who I’m not so sure I’ll keep after this last appointment, very bluntly stated that I wouldn’t get disability at the age of 26 and that signing up for disability was just “giving up”. She made it seem like I just wasn’t trying hard enough, and that I shouldn’t be placing such an importance in my school life and suggested that I get rid of my car. None of these suggestions are really feasible in my life, and completely ignore my current experiences and how hard I’ve been pushing myself for the past eight years. It all was a very clear snap judgement where she was infantilizing me as someone who just wasn’t trying hard enough and being a lazy asshole trying to dodge work and ‘real life responsibilities’.
I bawled my eyes out both in frustration and overwhelmed emotions in her office, but she just wasn’t much help. When I spoke with my partner and friends @teaninjako and @neonbat666 afterwards it was suggested that I ignore her advice and possibly report her for mental illness discrimination in her practice. I’m still debating on how I’m going to handle that and if I am going to report her or not; or if I’m going to report her for being moderately fat phobic in her practice as well.
Right now I’m just trying to get unemployment insurance set up, and then I’ll focus on getting disability paperwork filled out. I’d love any advise or suggestions people can offer about this whole situation.
I will make it quite clear though that I am NOT quitting school. The whole point of me being in school is to get the qualifications for a degree that allows me to work in a job that does not make me ill. So quitting school is not something that will help me in the long run, or in the short term.

Artificial lift systems market to reach a valuation of ~US$ 12.3 bn by 2027: TRANSPARENCY MARKET RESEARCH
Artificial Lift Systems Market: Introduction
The global artificial lift systems market was valued at ~US$ 8.1 Bn in 2018 and is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of ~5% during the forecast period. In terms of component, the hardware segment accounted for a prominent share of the artificial lift systems market in 2018, due to the high cost of hardware components in artificial lift systems, along with rising demand for artificial lift systems in mature oil and gas fields. Based on system, the electrical submersible pumping (ESP) segment held a major share of the artificial lift systems market in 2018. This can be ascribed to the high demand for ESP systems due to lower operational costs and flexibility in production output. The artificial lift systems market in Middle East & Africa is likely to expand at a substantial pace in the near future, led by the increase in number of mature fields in the region.
Key Drivers of Artificial Lift Systems Market
Rise in number of mature fields and aging oil & gas wells is estimated to boost the demand for artificial lift systems during the forecast period. Oil & gas production has been increasing in aging fields across the globe. As a result, the production output of these fields is gradually decreasing, owing to the decline in reservoir pressure. Artificial lift systems are deployed in these fields to ramp up the production output. These systems not only help increase reservoir production, but also improve the recovery rate of crude oil and natural gas from these reservoirs.

Growth in investments in the upstream oil & gas sector is also anticipated to drive the demand for artificial lift systems during the forecast period. Increase in investments in the upstream oil & gas sector enables discovery of new fields and drilling of new wells to exploit underlying reserves. However, currently, more than 90% of oil and gas fields require artificial lift systems for production. Thus, increase in investments in the upstream oil & gas sector is estimated to boost the demand for artificial lift systems in the near future. However, volatility in prices of oil and rise in shift toward environment-friendly technologies such as electric vehicles are likely to restrain the artificial lift systems market during the forecast period. Volatility in oil prices can significantly affect investments in the upstream sector of the industry. This, in turn, is projected to hamper the demand for artificial lift systems.
North America Dominates Artificial Lift Systems Market
North America was the prominent region of the global artificial lift systems market in 2018. The region is anticipated to maintain its dominance during the forecast period. This can be ascribed to the high demand for artificial lift systems, especially in the U.S., due to the increase in production of shale oil and gas in the region. Growth in investments in unconventional resource exploration and production and rise in number of aging fields in Middle East & Africa are driving the demand for artificial lift systems in the region.
