Do Women have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum?, Guerilla Girls, 1989
The Guerilla Girls are a group of feminist activist artists, who use facts, humour, and outrageous visuals to expose gender and ethnic bias and corruption in politics, art, film, and pop culture in their artworks. In 1989, they designed this billboard for the Public Art Fund (PAF) in New York, aimed to criticize the museum institutions for under-representing female artists and objectifying women. The PAF rejected this piece, deeming it “too provocative.” Instead, the Guerilla Girls rented advertising space on NYC buses and ran the ad themselves.

thinking logistics & locations | deciding on the details
dated: 221028
though we weren't able to meet & discuss the project again, our last meeting got my creative juices flowing well enough that i came home & made a lil document titled 'swy notes' that is probably going to serve as my baseline for the creation of the entire portfolio- as a place for me to simply list down all my thoughts & wants regarding the music video.
following are the sorts of things that i noted down / decided on today (showing dania afterwards & getting her go-ahead):
actors: waqas + mishal
concept: film aesthetic, vlog, film flares, all of the flashback scenes (i.e. memories of the main character being happy with his love) are probably going to be filmed handheld vlog style (pov shots), blue & yellow color palettes to contrast the flashbacks and present-time scenes.
locations: beach, in front of the PAF museum ferris wheel, whatever pretty park-type places i can find in the general area
editing: lots of match cuts, film + grain, yellow subs hard-subbed into music video for both understanding & aesthetic purposes
equipment: iphone, tripod, ring light, misc mood lights, home projector
translating the song:
i also took the liberty to go ahead & put my hard-earned korean skills to use to translate the korean song into english myself because, like i previously mentioned, the song means so incredibly much to me, & i wanted to make sure that i use a faithful translation of the beautiful original lyrics for my music video. i'm quite satisfied with the translation i ended up with <3
making the swy script template:
apart from that, i also finished working on something dania & i started together upon the instruction of our teacher: we made a spreadsheet that broke down each lyric & musical interlude in the song & marked the timestamps the lyrics started & ended at, with space left to note down what shots we wanted to shoot for that particular lyric.
i can already tell this is going to prove immensely helpful for when we actually shoot & then edit the music video.
& that's all for today!
signing off now,
rida zeeshan siddiqui 🤍

For the sixth and final episode of Season 3, we are pleased to announce an episode curated by Tosh Basco with Sophia Al-Maria, Patrick Belaga, Kelton Campos, Enantios Dromos, Josh Johnson, Asma Maroof, Fred Moten, Lorenzo Moten, Julian Moten,  Matthew Stone and Wu Tsang broadcasting on Wednesday 6th October 9PM BST / 4PM EST / 4AM CST REPLAY on Friday 8th October 10AM BST / 5AM EST / 5PM CST TRANSMISSIONS is back for Season 3!  In the past year we have learned that all forms of community are vital in providing mechanisms to support each other through this precarious time. In the continued pandemic landscape that we occupy many artists, writers and thinkers have had and continue to have exhibitions, opportunities and subsequent fees postponed or cancelled. In response to this, we established TRANSMISSIONS in 2020 as an online platform that commissions artists to share their work within a classic DIY TV show format. Our new season for 2021 comprising 6 episodes will stream on a monthly basis via our website from March to October 2021. Season 3 is supported by: BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Chisenhale Gallery, Forma Arts and Media, Manchester International Festival, Netwerk Aalst, Somerset House Studios, South London Gallery & Wysing Arts Centre.
Episode 6 | 6 October | 9PM BST | 4PM EST | 4AM CST REPLAY |  8 October | 10AM BST | 5AM EST | 5PM CST The Band and Friends The things that emanate from the ones I love. W/ Sophia Al-Maria / Tosh Basco / Patrick Belaga / Kelton Campos  / Enantios Dromos / Josh Johnson / Asma Maroof / Fred Moten / Lorenzo Moten / Julian Moten / Matthew Stone / Wu Tsang Tosh Basco
Tosh Basco is a movement-based performance artist whose work operates through improvisation as a mode of survival and world building in the liminal, performative space where becoming meets representation. Adamant about the visceral experience of live visual performance, she makes a case for how the movement of form can communicate what remains impenetrable in images, and through language. Her performances have been presented at the Gropius Bau, the Venice Biennale, the Sydney Biennial, the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, MOCA Los Angeles, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, ICA London, and Berghain. Tosh Basco has toured with Mykki Blanco, and collaborated with Korakrit Arunanondchai and Wu Tsang, as well as the streetwear label Hood By Air.
Thank you to:
All contributing artists, writers, composers and thinkers; Vanessa Carlos; Carlos Ishikawa; Adam Sinclair; Chloe Page; Maxwell Sterling; Simon Parris; Gabriella Price; Donald Smith; BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art; Cinenova; Chisenhale Gallery; Forma Arts and Media; Manchester International Festival; Netwerk Aalst; Somerset House Studios; South London Gallery; Wysing Arts Centre.

The Frankenstrat, also known as "Frankie", is a guitar created by Eddie Van Halen.
Its name is a portmanteau of Frankenstein, the fictional doctor who created a monster by combining body parts of the recently deceased, and the Stratocaster, a model of electric guitar made by Fender.
A copy of the Frankenstrat is housed in the National Museum of American History, part of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
The Frankenstrat was Van Halen's attempt to combine the sound of a classic Gibson guitar with the physical attributes and tremolo bar functionality of a Fender Stratocaster, thus creating an early attempt of a Superstrat .
It was made from a Northern Ash Stratocaster body, with pickup routing which he modified to fit a Gibson PAF humbucking pickup in the bridge position.
The guitar has a maple neck and fretboard, chrome hardware, and was painted with a black and white striped design until arriving at its final combination of red background with black and white stripes. It has a standard six string setup and a Floyd Rose tremolo.
** - In April 2019, the Metropolitan Museum of Art displayed the Frankenstrat guitar as part of the "Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock and Roll" exhibit.
Design:
Body and neck;
Van Halen bought the Frankenstrat's northern ash body and maple neck (which was a factory reject) for $130 from Wayne Charvel and Lynn Ellsworth, who sold Boogie Body bodies and necks.
Van Halen was able to purchase the factory second body at a discount price of $50 due to a knot in the wood. The $80 neck had jumbo fret wire, and its truss rod was adjustable at the heel.
Bridge and pickup;
The guitarist originally used the Fender tremolo system from his 1958 Fender Stratocaster, adding the Floyd Rose later.
He equipped the Frankenstrat with a PAF ("patent applied for") pickup removed from his Gibson ES-335, potting the pickup in paraffin wax to reduce microphonic feedback.
He then screwed the pickup to the guitar in the bridge position, slightly offset from perpendicular to the strings, to compensate for the different string spacing between the Gibson's pickup and the Fender's bridge.
This pickup was later replaced by a Seymour Duncan humbucker.
Controls;
Van Halen removed both tone-control potentiometers, wiring the pickups in a simple circuit largely due to his limited knowledge of electronics.
He placed a knob marked "Tone" on the volume-control pot, then used a vinyl record that he'd shaped into a pick guard to cover the controls.
This pick guard was later replaced by a real, similarly-shaped pick guard.
Although it has five mounting holes (one drilled by Van Halen), it was installed with only three screws.
A strip of double-sided masking tape was added near the pick guard, on which Van Halen placed a variety of picks.
The simple circuit consisted of a single humbucking pick-up, an A500k potentiometer (the volume control) and a 1/4-inch output jack.
Finish;
Van Halen painted the guitar black, and when it was dry he put strips of gaffer's tape on the body and repainted it white, creating the classic Frankenstrat.
Van Halen put a Gibson decal on the headstock, emphasizing the "cross-pollination" between Gibson and Fender.
Because companies began selling guitars with similar finishes, and because he felt that the guitar was being too badly damaged from overuse, he stopped playing the Frankenstrat in public, instead using the black-and-yellow "bumblebee" guitar pictured on Van Halen II (1979).
In 1979, disappointed with the bumblebee's performance, Van Halen re-taped the body of the Frankenstrat and painted it with red Schwinn bicycle paint.
According to the guitarist, "The Schwinn bicycle paint gives it pop."
Variants;
Kramers;
Kramer Guitars was the first company endorsed by Van Halen in 1983, when it built a Frankenstrat replica, and during this time he replaced the original Frankenstrat neck with a Kramer neck, first seen on the "Jump" video.
In 1984, he was given the "Hot for Teacher" guitar (seen in the song's video clip), and began appearing in Kramer advertisements.
Paul Unkert, the "Guitar Guy" of UNK guitars, worked on the Frankenstrat and put his "Unk" stamp on it.
The best-known Kramer owned by Van Halen was the 5150, which he built in the Kramer factory.
Although it was thought that the guitar was made from a Kramer Baretta body, it had a prototype Pacer body.
The guitar, used from the 1984 tour through the OU812 tour, was last used to record "Judgement Day" for the album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991).
Although the 5150 reappeared on the 2004 reunion tour with Sammy Hagar, the guitar upgraded with a Charvel neck and EVH Wolfgang humbucker, it was subsequently retired.
A number of other Kramers were also built and used by Van Halen during this time (most notably the 1984 Kramer), although most were simply striped designs without other markings.
These guitars were primarily backups for the 5150 on tours, and were retired at the same time. Some were given away, or (like the 1984 Kramer) awarded in contests.
Charvel hybrid VH2;
The second Frankenstrat, appearing on the Van Halen II LP and tour, was a 1979 Charvel hybrid VH2 "Bumblebee" black-and-yellow striped guitar.
It was buried with Dimebag Darrell of Pantera in a Kiss Kasket, who had asked for a Charvel Art Series replica before they were released; Van Halen was said to have presented the original guitar at his funeral.

Sometimes I think about that one episode where dib threw the muffin at zim so he put him into a fake reality to get the truth and wonder how that would play out with the reader in it
I think about that too! In fact, you’ve given me a little inspiration!
After being blessed by those strange alien shoes, Dib had been feeling amazing!
He had been gifted with abilities he had never even dreamed of!
He even received an apology from Gaz that morning!
Just when he thought things couldn’t get any better for him, Dib had finally managed to do what he had been wanting to do for ages:
He finally exposed Zim.
All it took was a long, well thought out lecture and Zim turned himself into the Urth a authorities without question!
The next thing he knew, he was on the news being praised for exposing Zim and opening the world’s eyes to the existence of aliens!
Dib had everything he could’ve asked for! He was finally getting the recognition he so rightfully deserved!
Even Professor Membrane finally believed him for once!
Dib couldn’t have been more happy! He felt like he was walking on air! Literally! He even floated around instead of walking whenever his legs grew tired.
Despite all of his newfound fame and powers, nothing made him more happy than finally winning your love!
You had been dating Zim for months! You were glued to Zim’s side 24/7!
No matter what he did, Dib could never get you away from that vile alien monster!
Until now that is.
He could never forget the moment you approached him after one of his interviews.
“Hey Dib…”
The sound of your voice almost made Dib’s eyes burst out of his glasses!
“What the- Y/N?! What are you doing here?”
“Well I wanted to congratulate you on all your success and stuff.” You rubbed your arm and looked down at your feet.
“Well, thanks I guess. Hey, are you ok?” Dib asked as he noticed your nervous behavior.
“Y-Yeah…It’s just. Well, I realized that I..I..” You fumbled over your words as a few beads of sweat dripped down your forehead.
“You what?”
“I have feelings for you! I think I’ve always had feelings for you but Zim brainwashed me or something!” You blurted out as your eyes remained glued to your feet.
Dib’s jaw hit the ground! He couldn’t believe what he just heard! In fact, he wasn’t even sure he even heard your correctly!
“W-What?”
“I know. I know. This sounds totally crazy…But I mean it! I love you, Dib! But…I understand if you don’t feel the same. I was pretty harsh to you. So if you don’t want to date me… I understand. I just thought you should know how I felt. That’s all.” You confessed as you shuffled your feet.
“Are you kidding me?! I knew you’d come around some day! Wait…You’re not trying to pull some kind of prank on me right?” Dib’s eyes narrowed as he put his hands on his hips.
“Nope! I’m dead serious!” You confirmed as you slowly looked up at him.
Dib’s eyes lit up as he took your hands in his.
“Y/N, you have no idea how long I’ve wanted you! No idea! This is amazing! We can finally live the rest of our lives together and expose more paranormal creatures!” Dib announced dramatically as he eagerly shook your hands.
“Oh, Dib! I’m so glad you feel the same!”
After kissing his cheek, you and Dib spent the rest of your days exposing paranormal pests and dodging paparazzi.
Dib felt like he was in heaven! It felt like nothing could ruin his newfound successes!
Not even Zim’s ominous threats!
You and Dib decided to visit Zim in his containment chambers to review a few notes.
The moment the metallic doors opened, Zim let out a low groan.
His body was hooked up to countless wires and a tube was jammed into one of his  eyes.
Zim struggled to look up and you and Dib as he blinked his visible eye.
“Dib!”
“It’s been years, Zim!” Dib growled dramatically as he picked up a few notes.
“Ugh. You’re even uglier than I remember.” You grimaced as you tried to look away.
“20 of your years to be precise! Enduring the indignities! Watching you prance around with what was once my sweet Y/N! The only reason I haven’t tried to escape and reclaim my Y/N is because it amuses me! ” Zim lied as he raised his arms.
“Amuses you to what?” Dib asked as he looked up from his notes.
“Yeah! What are you going on about?” You demanded as you put your hands on your hips.
“Ah yes, the invasion.” Zim mused dramatically.
“I didn’t ask about the invasion.” Dib huffed as he raised a brow.
“Oh you didn’t? Well you were supposed to. Eh…Well, THEY’LL BE HERE! The Armada will come and there’s nothing you can do about it!” Zim snarled as one of his arms snapped off.
“We’ll see, Zim. We’ll see!” Dib growled as he stormed out of the room.
You let out a squeak as Dib almost threw you to the ground.
“Oops! Sorry, Y/N.” Dib chuckled as he helped you to your feet.
“Don’t worry, I’m ok.” You giggled as you held your head.
From that moment on, You and Dib worked together to prepare for the coming invasion!
“To better study the coming alien menace-” -Dib blasted away a random projectile with his laser eyes- “I’m proud to open the Dib and Y/N institute of paranormal studies/ school of paranormal tolerance/ museum/ snack bar!”
Dib let out a war cry as he fired a large lightning blast from his fingertips.
PEW!
Dib shot down a large tree, opening up the snack bar.
The crowd eagerly ran to the snack bar as the tree fell back to the ground.
Fireworks sparkled as planes spelled out both your and Dib’s names in the sky!
Dib wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you into a passionate kiss.
A few weeks flew by, things seemed to be going well until-
BREEP! BREEP! BREEP!
A loud alarm rung out as a frantic guard came zooming down the hall and burst into the men’s bathroom!
“Sir! Sir! They’re coming!” The guard panted as he rested his hands on his knees.
With a loud flush and a thorough hand washing, Dib emerged from the bathroom and made his way to the United World Association Of Fighting Enemies room.
“The Massive! The Armada’s capital ship-” -Dib drew a crude drawing of The Massive on a large chalkboard and pointed to it with a metal pointer, “The side storage pods are filled with snacks! It’s their weak spot! Alpha! You’ll be taking down, The Massive!”
“But, Dib- Sir! Who will lead Alpha Squadron?!” Alpha squeaked.
Dib dramatically broke his pointer in half.
The next day, Dib prepared to battle The armada.
“Dib! Are you sure you can handle this?” You asked as you watched Dib get ready.
“Don’t worry about me, Y/N! I’ve been preparing for this all my life! You just stay here and look after the institute! Got it?” Dib commanded as he took your hands in his.
“Got it. Just one more thing before you go.”
Dib opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by you pulling him into a passionate kiss.
Once you both parted for air you gave Dib a warm smile.
“Good luck, Dib.”
And with that, Dib lead Alpha Squadron into the depths of space and begun the battle against the Armada.
PEW!
BLAM!
BANG!
Blue and pink lasers collided as Alpha Squadron plowed through the Armada and blew up ship after ship!
It wasn’t long before Dib noticed The Massive looming in closer.
Dib leapt out of his ship and charged up a large lighting blast.
He let out a loud war cry as he zoomed straight towards The Massive’s window.
Dib glared at The Tallest as they prepared to blast him back to Urth!
Luckily, Dib dodged their blasts and ran on top of The Massive’s roof!
BLAM!
ZAP!
PEW!
Dib blasted away more ships as he made his way towards the side storage pods!
ZZZAP!!
With one massive blast, Dip burst a hole through the side storage pods!
Snacks poured out of the ship as The Tallest screeched in agony
“OUR SNACKS! IT’S OVER! RETREAT!” Red wailed as he rushed off in a panic.
And with that, The Massive plummeted towards the Urth.
BOOOOOM!!
The Massive sunk into the ground as Dib landed right by your side!
“Dib you did it!” You cheered as you held him close.
However, the crowd gasped as a large chunk of debris headed straight for you!
POW!
Dib kicked away the debris before it landed anywhere near you.
“I love you, Dib!” You cheered as you kissed his cheek.
More years passed by and you and Dib had grown old together.
Dib was being interviewed on a talk show while you cheered from the audience.
“And that’s how I was awarded the greatest person ever to live award!” Dib explained as he gestured to the large medal pinned to his shirt.
“You’ve lived quite a full life haven’t you, Sir Dib?” The host asked.
“Yes, Alan. It was all I could ever hope for and more! I even got to ride a moose!” Dib chirped as he gave a warm smile.
The room erupted into applause as you wiped away a tear.
“And who could forget that day? Yes, well thank you for sharing your incredible life with us and allowing the human race to survive.” Alan beamed as he gestured for the audience to quiet down.
“Oh yes! You’re welcome!”
“Oh and if I may say, there’s one question that would settle the curiosity of your many fans. Did you throw the muffin at Zim’s head?” Alan asked as he clasped his hands together.
“Wow. Heh. That’s going back a long ways. As a matter of fact, I did.” Dib chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head.
“AH HA!”
Alan’s face morphed into Zim’s as Zim’s laughter echoed through out the audience.
Everywhere Dib looked all he could see was Zim’s face mocking him! Even your face had been replaced by Zims!
Soon the world fizzled away and Dib had returned to his younger self and was sitting in a large room with blank, white walls.
“I knew it! I knew it was you!” Zim snarled as he sat from a distance.
“What?! There aren’t shoe aliens?” Dib asked sadly as he looked up at the ceiling.
“Get out.”
Dib got off the chair he was sitting in and somberly walked out of the room.
“Oh just one more thing.”
Dib was stopped by a large cannon aimed right for his head!
Dib braced himself as the canon charged up.
PAF!
A small muffin popped out of the cannon and beaned Dib square in the face.
Zim cackled as Dib stumbled his way out the door.
“You stink Zim!”
