Jimin looks so handsome in the new video from Tiffany&Co. Ethereal is the word that came to my mind when I saw the video.
These days there is a lot of talk on TikTok particularly, about silent luxury/old money fashion/aesthetic and Jimin in that video is an example of how I interpret that concept.
He looks sophisticated, expensive.

New Look Sabres: GM 68 - COL
I got to say: talking about off-ice Sabres drama and rumors last game was a refreshing change of pace from the dreary post-Bleakness Threshold game-to-game coverage of recent weeks. That said, when we do dive into the mechanics of potential moves and even Front Office moves, we risk being that guy. That guy is the one who really pushes for a neat idea for his/her team while missing one or two massive details that makes the rest of us not all that interested. A good example is buying out Zach Bogosian this season. If you do that this season you risk really hurting the cap situation a few years down the road when Rasmus Dahlin and Casey Mittelstadt are up for new deals; not to mention Jeff Skinner’s yet to be signed deal. I got worried I was being that guy after I fantasized about Matt Duchene last game, so I did something I rarely do as a writer of a fan blog: I did my research! Matt Duchene is a consistent goal scorer with a taste for assists as well. He is wrapping up one of the biggest steals of a contract this season and is due for a significant pay raise. He’s on the record seeking a stable situation. When he was shipped out of Colorado (his childhood team) the situation there was absolutely miserable. He landed in Ottawa hoping for a change of pace and just got a different nightmare to sit through. Now he’s in Columbus for what will hopefully be a Stanley Cup run. Whether he resigns there or not is yet to be seen but there’s a decent chance he doesn’t considering the huge investment that team has put into UFAs. Imagine him coming to the stable situation that is Buffalo? LOL! Ok, so its not a perfect dream but there are ways it happens. For one it only should happen if Jeff Skinner resigns. If the Skin man is walking out at UFA I don’t want Matt Duchene to be the band-aid. No one wants to come in like that. In terms of the contract I’m with any number south of 10 mil honestly. That’s Jack Eichel’s number and no one gets more than Jacky boy. That was fun speculating, right? I suppose I need to talk about yesterday’s game now. This will be hard because the Sabres got shut out 3-0 and there was nothing all that redeemable about this game. There were fights…
Nobody scored in the first. The Sabres only got 4 shots on goal in the first period and 18 all game so its not like this game had much of anything to do with the goalies. The Avalanche only had 12 shots on Carter Hutton in the first as well. This was to be one of those rare games where goal scoring plays were not the focus. I don’t mean that in a good way… if there is a good way to mean that. This game was a downright chirp fest punctuated by a handful of fights. The Sabres must have felt out-gunned from the start because long before anything mischievous happened dudes we’re falling all over the place looking for calls. Easily the best chances of the game for the visitors was in the first. I wish I could say it was at least a good defensive game but on half the Avs shot attempts Marco Scandella is trashing around in front of the net not really moving guys. It seems like Coach Housley yelled at them over defensive zone plays and they just felt the need to look busier in that end. It didn’t work and the second period looked worse. I will say Sam Reinhart got a wicked breakaway before the end of the first that Philip Grubauer never lost track of. The second period was when Colorado really turned it into a shooting gallery. Nathan MacKinnon’s goal is worth going back and seeing, it was legitimately skillful. The more notable event from a Sabres perspective however was the exchange of headshots. Jack Eichel would trigger a larger fight between the two sides with his headshot on Carl Soderberg. If I’m being honest I don’t know if that came first or the hit to Eichel’s neck that took his helmet clean off was. There’s an argument to be made that the refs non-calls in this game created this dangerous situation. I think that’s stupid and frankly both hits were ugly and unnecessary, and I would have vastly preferred scoring plays in their stead. Nonetheless it those were dirty plays in a dirty game. I mean hell, Rasmus Dahlin and J.T. Compher had a spat of their own in the third period. If you don’t know who JT Compher is let me tell you he’s the guy Tim Murray sees in his nightmares.
The third period was just a formality really: the Avs got two more goals to get our final score-line of 3-0 and the game only got shittier to watch. I had a family party to attend to, so I missed the third and considered myself blessed. For all you Neanderthals out there you can rest assured the Sabres out hit the Avalanche 36-26. The only thing of any substance Buffalo can really take from this is that maybe Jack Eichel will get suspended. I love my Captain but if he is suspended I can’t imagine being upset about that. I say that because A. what are we playing for at this point and B. he did execute a pretty bad hit. That’s a big olde whatever for me. I’m not going to be the other kind of THAT GUY who just eats up the violence of this sport as if giving each other CTE is a good thing. This was the fourth straight loss for these guys, and I got to commend them for at least getting out of the win-one-lose-one pattern. This was the kind of game twitter follows by debating who to trade and whether or not Jeff Skinner actually wants to sign here. It’s ironic saying this considering the potential suspension for Captain Jack but I think Skinner wants to stay for the sake of playing with Eichel if nothing else. It’s getting to the point now where maybe he’s thinking there will be a new coach as well. Phil Housley was asked if pride was something that needed to be addressed with this game in the post-game presser. He answered that question in perhaps the most embarrassing way possible: “We’ll have to go back and look into that.” Are you for real, dude? That’s the kind of answer that you give in a video session, not to the Press after having the most anemic loss of the season. Jack’s postgame comments had swear words in them, yours can’t sound like a dude trying to answer a short response question evasively. Some people wanted him fired after this game for talking like that and I think anyone who knows this team understands they don’t fire during the season. But more and more I’m beginning to think he won’t be around very long past April 8th.
Thank God there was some levity to be had during this game. RJ said one of those quotes that remind you he’s an elderly man with a wild sense of humor. When the game was at its feistiest he said: “There have been more cheap shots than a Mexican cantina at happy hour!” That feels like one of those comments your grandparent says that you look around and make sure no one heard it. RJ has a microphone, so we all heard Buffalo’s own grandpa. LOL. Like, comment and share this blog around. I want to say it can be as fun as an off-color RJ call, but it really hasn’t been that way in a few months, eh? I like to think it will be fun again once the season is over. Either way let’s commiserate together and get ready for the Amerks run! I’m going to sound like a broken record that way for these last 14 games. Ugh. Let’s count our blessings: we could be Senators fans. Let’s Go Buffalo!
Thanks for reading.
P.S. In spite of all the losing I can’t wait to go see the Sabres on St. Patrick’s Day. I might need the alcohol content of that day by then

“It’s patriarchy”
I’ll be making lots of comparisons throughout the post in order to illustrate better my point. Lauren said it: “It’s rampant sexism”. On the media, on the GP’s perception, on the production process, on the industry in general.
Let’s start with some basics....
BB released an article back in early 2015 where it was described Why Can't Modern Girl Groups Land a Radio Hit? These modern GG more like 5H & LM. In this written piece there are several statements that undoubtedly caught my attention. Starting with the last paragraph:
When I asked Biddle why he thinks One Direction enjoy more stateside success than girl groups, he echoed Wiegenstein's sentiment. "I don't know 100 percent. I guess it's because those boys are 'cute'? It could be as simple as that."
How sad it is that we exist in the midst of 21st century & still there are people that prefer “pretty faces & looks” over talent– btw this comment is not triggered to 1D in the slightest, I have nothing but respect for them– I just mean this in a very generalised form.
It’s not secret that a girlband has to work 10x harder to get a quarter of the recognition a boyband gets.
Similarly, a girl group isn't as easy to promote as a boy band. "In terms of teen magazines, the idea of marketing different members of boy bands is easier," says Anna Louise Wiegenstein, a former pop culture instructor (and Little Mix fan), who's giving a talk on One Direction fan culture at the National Pop Culture Association/American Culture Association Conference in April. "There's the 'funny one,' the 'mysterious one' -- it's easy to make quizzes and profile pieces around them."
When marketing a girl group to teenage girls, Wiegenstein continues, it's harder to tap into those teenage hormones. "When you're talking about a group of girls, they target the brands around personalities," she says. "It's more like, 'Which one would be your friend?' And there's less of a fantasy aspect to that."
Leaving aside the marketing strategy (which is true, bc how many times we have seen someone in the fandom say “I’m more like Lauren” or “Dinah & I would get along” etc.), I want to focus in the use of “teenage hormones”. Hormonal is always associated to the female self. Which leads me to jump into the media field:
Here a contrast on how media reported 5H x Camila vs. 1D x Zayn
Informing about the “We don’t talk to our ex-bandmates anymore” moment.
In contrast to Camila’s report, Zayn’s one has got this “scattering element”, if I can call it like that. The “chunky girls” & “Gigi Hadid” features helped to divert the viewer’s attention from the main point. Just look at the comments section from the two videos & the difference is pretty self explanatory….
youtube
youtube
Sadly the more problematic the situation evolves around the girls, the better. For boys, the situation is showcased in a much lighter form even if the conflict is tighter over there.
youtube
We know that in both cases narratives are recycled. However on this side the girls haven’t threw shade thus far, unfortunately media portraits the whole in an almost unforgivable way. For the record there was not really much to report. It’s only about the time Lauren posted the “fake that confidence bih” tweet, only to later explain it was to herself. Still that was not going to stop them from pulling a video to attract a handful of viewers. The segment starts by quoting the title, which by the way ensures grabbing the spectator’s attention: “Did Lauren Jauregui diss Camila Cabello AGAIN After Grammy After-Party?”
*in my most sarcastic tone* You guys, apparently L shaded C more than once & we didn’t know… I grew three grey hairs with that headline itself. Right after including Lauren’s tweet to the assumed shade, the only thing they added on the coverage script was a simple “preach girl” 😒😒
youtube
Whereas in the 1D side Zayn did throw shade (several times), a public fight on Twitter unleashed & the reporter’s remarks sound nothing like in the 5H coverage. The feud is a lot less magnified. “Ugh! Put the weapons down boys!”. Hell, Clever made sure to shut down the rumours that Zayn had unfollowed the entire band. Note how they even show what happen to be “receipts” while the host says “I’ve put some of my best creeping skills to the test & found out he has not yet unfollowed them so there’s that bit of kinda sorta good news for you & in hope that this won’t ruin their friendship for good.” We can also add how in a poor attempt of diminishing the climax they brought the dolls into the scene. Seriously, I’d love to see them doing something like this when addressing the girls’ drama *sighs* only in my wildest dreams.
Why does media scandalises more the girlgroup’s party than the boyband’s one?
I’ve said this before, but I don’t mind repeating it. Hollywood has used the stigma that “women can’t get along while working” for so long. Plus the infamous stereotypes of our incredible rational society that a girl is constantly hormonal, temperamental & always has to be involved in any sort of catfight with someone from the same gender. There has to be a “bitch” in the story without exception. Inside the entertainment industry, they love taking advantage of this cliché. Not said by me, but coming directly from a very renowned actress…
Jessica Chastain talks sexism in the industry
If the video loads for you, I highly recommend that you watch it. It’s such a short article, nevertheless I’ll be attaching some extracts below:
There was a great myth that I grew up with that women don’t work well together,” Jessica Chastain tells Vanity Fair.
Back when she was promoting The Help in 2011, Chastain explains, “so many of the questions I was getting from the press was about fighting on set—’Was it tough to be on set with all those girls?’ I wasn’t getting those questions with any of the other movies that I’d been involved with.”
Out of joke, I lost count of all the times I’ve heard this same question with 5H.
Fun fact that I found randomly: Reminder that only 3% of the decision-making in media is made by women. Which means that 97% of how women are portrayed is decided by men.
Always pitting women against each other is what our generation does best nowadays. Clearly mgmt & the label have used this with the fandom. The creation of “-izers” are a great example of this. As well this standard is ultimately what impulses the narrative on a daily basis. Stans went from loving & defending the group with their lives, to only caring about their faves. I know some fans still keep up with each girl & love them all. I have faith in those stans. If you’re one of them, don’t fall for that mischievous game, thank you.
DON’T BE NAIVE, KIDS.
P.S. I leave you the link to others sexist scenarios in the industry. Worth checking each out.
This Is The Kind Of Bullsh*t You Face As A Woman In The Music Industry
99% of women working in the film and TV industries have experienced sexism
I’ve heard, for example, that if a male director is being picky, people say he has a strong vision. With a woman, people will say she is being difficult. It’s also common to assume that kindness is a sign of weakness.
7 Anecdotes From Female Artists Show How Deep Sexism Runs in the Music Industry
"Women in the industry are judged more," Nicki Minaj told Time back in February. "If you speak up for yourself, you're a bitch. If you party too much, you're a whore. Men don't get called these things."
Grimes Says Male Producers Threatened to Not Finish Her Songs if She Didn't Have Sex
Grimes is no stranger to being open about the misogyny and sexism she and other females face in the industry.
Grimes fielded one fan's question, who asked why the topic seems like such a "regular thing" for her to tweet and speak about if she finds it so annoying. Grimes explained it only seems that because of the way the press fixates on it.

TAKE IT EASY
30TH MARCH 2018 I was out with mom for my birthday lunch. My 25th birthday. This year wasn’t heading anywhere in terms of what I’d imagined it to be and I was sort of disoriented with life. I had just quit a long term project mid-way on an ugly note, was at the lowest in my personal life, and I’d started losing interest in things around me. Seemed like everything was breaking down at the same time.
But being the eternal optimist that I am, I was pushing myself everyday into thinking that come what may, now on I will only focus on what I want to do, both professionally & personally, so that I’m never in the mental space that I was (then)in.
Coming back, after lunch when mom & I headed out of the restaurant, I got a call from Riva (OML), saying they wanted to meet regarding Anirban Dasgupta’s Amazon Prime special. Now Anirban had discussed about his special with me and had mentioned a couple of months ago that he wanted me to work on his special, but in what capacity, I didn’t know, I don’t think even he knew what designation he wanted me to handle when he said that. Honestly, I was yearning to work on a stand up special, yet was slightly skeptical, as some time ago another comic had approached me to work on their special, since that hadn’t materialized, it had fizzled my excitement. Anyway, I was elated to be working with Anirban, since I really like the man, his comedy and even more: his ethic. So right after I got off the call with OML, at that very instant, I felt positivity rush through my head, a feeling that this could be the beginning of something new, a fresh start.
FLASHBACK #1 I remember meeting Anirban for the first time at CLC Mumbai back in September 2016, he had called me over to record his set. I had frequently been shooting live stand up sets then, and a mutual friend, Siddharth Dudeja had referred me to him.
3RD APRIL 2018 I met the producers Tihany and Harshita at OML, we had a nice conversation and I shared my previous work with them. They clearly seemed like people who were open to working on new ideas with new people, which was really good. So, after certain deliberations over the following week (as I am told), I finally got a confirmation call to direct the special!
11TH APRIL 2018 Pre-production for ‘TAKE IT EASY’ kicked off on 11th April 2018, the core team sat across a table, and tried to understand each other’s’ perspectives. Usually, I take some time to open up and discuss my ideas, and that’s what happened here as well, but the vibe at that workspace was quite comforting, and within a couple of days, I felt like a part of the team.
Special thanks to Tihany, Harshita, Riva & Sneha for handling the entire production so well right from the top.
15TH APRIL - 30TH APRIL 2018 Recces at CLC began. The good part was that CLC was home turf for both of us; Anirban(as artist) and me(as director), as we had done several shows at the venue both together & individually, yet we knew that it would be challenging to shoot there, as the entire idea was to make CLC not look like CLC, firstly because it is an Amazon Special and has to look like one! & secondly, ANYONE who has seen even one Indian stand-up act on YouTube knows exactly how CLC looks like. That was the first realisation that this is going to be a tough job.
As recces and pre-prod meetings became routine, Parag - Associate Producer, joined the team (He is a valuable addition to any unit that he joins)
TRIVIA #1 Judah Friedlander, Bill Burr, Chris Rock & Chris D’Elia are some comedy greats that Anirban introduced me to during pre-production. We kept referencing their work; posters, framing, edit patterns, trailers, which helped us get perspective on our own show, right from the beginning.
FLASHBACK #2 Anirban had asked me back in January (2018), how the idea of an entirely black and white special was, what would be anyones’ first thought about it. What was my first thought about it? My first reaction was that it’ll be super-cool, but immediately I started thinking about its context with the material & I remember telling him a mix of black & white with color would be a better option.
6TH MAY 2018 Shoot day passed by just like that, I honestly don’t remember much from that day, it was a weird mix of nervousness, sleeplessness & excitement. I remember how it ended though, we celebrated Harshita’s birthday at CLC, and later Anirban, Prerna & I went to a house party, quite chill, good times :)
9TH MAY 2018 – 11TH JUNE 2018 Post production. Long working hours. Sleep? What’s that? No routine. Miscommunication. Post production. Long working hours. Sleep? What’s that? No routine. Miscommunication. Post production & Sound Mixing. Long working hours. Sleep? What’s that? No routine. Miscommunication. This loop is infinite.
On a serious note: Pooja, Mihir & Kshitij, added immense value to this project.
One interesting thing that happened during this time was that we only got the OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION to go ahead with the black & white look just ONE WEEK before the final delivery of the special. Hard to believe, right?
BACKSTORY: During pre-prod, we were told that the black & white look had been approved which is why we had planned EVERYTHING according to that color palette, but just TEN DAYS before the shoot, we were informed that suddenly the platform wasn’t sure of screening a full blown one hour special in monochrome, and was contemplative about their decision (Read: Murphy’s Law). Now neither did we have time for coming up with Plan B, nor could the show date be pushed, we had no option but to play safe, so the setup that we finally shot; including: lighting, backdrop, costume, was kept global/generic, since the call of the special being in color or monochrome would only be taken during post-production. It was a bummer, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
We stood our ground, and as you may have noticed: the special went out in MONOCHROME. Yay!
PRE-CLIMAX The kind of freedom Anirban gave me was commendable. He didn’t compromise on anything whatsoever, and I truly truly appreciate that about him, it was empowering. The thought was clear, we wanted to create a new experience for the comedy viewers, but with purpose in place, not only for the sake of it, or just because we could. We had fresh ideas, at the same time, needed to balance it with the guidelines of the platform, so although we were taking risks, they were calculated, as to how experimental we can/should get.
CONCLUSION During this process, I realised that Anirban apart from being such a well-established artist, consciously ‘chooses’ to be a student of the (comedy)art form, always open to ideas, opinions and learning. You name a special (live or online), and I’m quite sure he must’ve seen it. That level of involvement.
He’d told me once that his intention is to go up at least once on stage EVERYDAY, irrespective of the circumstances; That just blew my mind! Even I want to be that determined in what I do, or find something that pushes me to that extent.
I can’t even begin to tell how straining, restless yet satisfying the last two months have been. But streaming the special on Amazon Prime Video now is a great feeling. I’ve seen the special on all devices possible, Android phone, iPhone, Macbook, Windows, PS4, Fire Stick, you name it. I think I’m just habituated to watching it every day.
Anirban performed ‘Take It Easy’ for the last time at CLC, Noida on 23rd June, 2018 & coincidentally I was there to watch the show, for the final time, thereby coming full circle with the show. Somethings are meant to happen I guess, or perhaps I’m just overthinking. Haha.
RANDOM NOTE I love the art-form. It comes from a place of angst and frustration, its just lovely to see a comic go up of stage and share their individualistic opinion about things. More than laughing, it makes you wonder about the circumstances that the person has been through, the issues that we as a community, a country face on a regular basis. Stand-up actually comes from a place of deep-rooted pain and I think that’s beautiful.
SHOUT-OUT (i) Namit & Prerna(Anirban’s management): These guys operate at a different pace man! So efficient & creative at the same time. I love the understanding they share with Anirban, it’s such a good marriage between the three. They helped us sail through the process, with ease. Most of the good ideas & creative decisions that made it to the final output, were actually suggested by the two of them. Great collaborators.
(ii) Vipin from 9 Horses, who gave the sound the exact feel that we wanted. P.S.: Sound is the MOST important (yet highly neglected) aspect, especially for a comedy special, it’s make or break.
(iii) Every stand-up artist who has hired me till date. It was because of them that I could consistently practice shooting and editing comedy, it was during this course that I realized the potential that stand up has, especially visually, and I can’t even begin to tell how experimental it can get, if thought through!
CONCLUSION CONTINUED I want to thank Anirban for giving me this opportunity, I absolutely enjoyed myself through it (except the marketing collaterals -_-)
Also wanted to share that I got to direct another Amazon special, for Gaurav Kapoor. This time again, we’ve tried a different look and feel and I’m really glad that the folks at OML have been accepting of most of the ideas that we’ve pitched to them. Anirban & Gaurav’s specials are two ends of a spectrum, which is good for me, since I get to showcase my versatility right from the beginning of my directorial journey.
Directing ‘Take it Easy’ was a big deal for me, and I think I lived up to it(whatever the case, IMDb ratings will tell soon). I hope I’ve grown as a person during this process and can apply the knowledge I’ve learnt from this, into future projects and life, in general.
Going back to my beloved(NOT) corporate films for a while, see you on the other side!
Sharing some images from the process behind making ‘Take It Easy’.

Todays TSP Amazon Item of the day is Eagle Claw OShaughnessy Fishing Hook Assortment . In general I dont recommend buying fish hooks on Amazon because many of them cost less just buying local retail, but this one is a great deal, a really great deal. Lets start with the pattern of hook here though, what exactly is an OShaughnessy hook pattern. Well they are a go to very traditional hook, especially for larger fish using cut or live bait. They are thick for their size as well, so they are very strong. Additionally they a large eye in them, making them suited to heavier line, split rings or snap swivels. And that brings me to how I use them most often. While I do like them for fishing with live bait in salt water my main use is for catfish in fresh water. Specifically I use them for limb lines, jug lines and trot lines. I use these hooks for these purposes for some of the reasons above, tough, they work and the large eye lets me easily put a split ring and snap swivel on them. I always use a swivel with limb, jug and trot lines, catfish roll when hooked and jack up everything if you dont. Another key though is back to how thick they are, and that they are made with nickle steel. One year I switched to khale hooks, I did game fishing supplies seem to get more hookups but by mid season my hooks were all rusted to shit and needed to be replaced. I generally get two seasons at least out of these guys. This pack is also an excellent value, you get 100 hooks ranging in size from #1 to #6/0 for about 8 bucks including shipping. So consider picking up a pack or two of the Eagle Claw OShaughnessy Fishing Hook Assortment today, especially if limb lining, trot lining or jug fishing is in your plans this year. Also just because they are legal doesnt mean they dont come with restrictions like total lines, gear tag requirements, time check requirements, etc. Make sure to know all your laws, if you get in trouble with your local Rabbit Sheriff, it isnt my fault. Rabbit Sheriff? Yea that is what we call the game warden in Texas, it isnt an insult by the way. Just a local colloquialism. P.S.S.
