more about hearthians and music. How important is music to hearthian culture? From their propensity to sit around campfires and close-knit relations, I like to imagine music is, well, not necessarily integral to life, but something like it. their history isn’t written, it’s sung, tales of old told ‘round the campfire. Memories of those departed come to life with the dancing shadows cast by the fire. Feelings of love, happiness, togetherness, pull the community together as a celebration. One’s troubles put to song allow others in, turning one’s silent suffering into a community-led effort to help them.

“Travelers” is more than just a song that others can join into, it’s an expression of life and love. It’s an expression of community. No one single performer can play the song, the song is nothing more than a melody for them; only through the addition of others does it become Travelers truly. It’s as old as hearthians themselves, but it doesn’t belong solely to them. The musicians performing it give it the qualities of their own culture, their own personalities.

When Solanum and the Prisoner join in at the end, they aren’t emulating hearthian music, they’re expressing themselves and who they represent, the species that came before them. They aren’t adding onto it, they aren’t even joining in, they’re a part of it Solanum’s piano melody presses on and on, floats around one idea and what it means. The prisoner drones on in the background, peaking out with their voice to make it known that they’re there. Travelers is an expression of one’s culture, and purely isnt hearthian by design, It’s just that there’s always like 5 hearthians playing

I needed to verify a lot of things in the game to draw the comic, and I found out some interesting things. Someone else may have already verified this, but I thought I would write it down for my own records.

This is an intense spoiler, so please be careful when viewing.

The verification was "Regarding solanum, is it possible to determine her life and death on the quantum moon?" The question was.

Even if it is on a quantum moon, as long as it remains in the observer's view, its condition is stable, regardless of the object.With the exception of the sixth location, there is always a painful wreckage of Solanum left behind on each planet. If these are photographed by the little scout (leaving aside the moral issues), her state will be stabilized at "death". If we walk across the altar to the sixth location in this state, is Solanum really dead?

Or, if I photograph a living Solanum in a sixth location and leave that location (which would greatly contradict the result of Nomai's extinction due to ghost matter), is she alive in another location as well?　

First, I will examine the results of "death," which are not so contradictory.

Oh... but if we enter the altar while still in the photographed state, the movement system does not activate.

Then, when the photographed state is withdrawn, the movement system begins to work as usual.

In other words, there seems to be some mysterious pressure on us to "for theoretical and game reasons, we can't let you do that" lol.

But what about the possibility of "alive"?　

The same pressure is likely to be applied, but I will try it.

First, I photograph a live Solanum, which is then sucked into the sky directly above us while I hold it. Under normal circumstances, it should exit to the South Pole at some other location. But the result has been just to return to the live Solanum. I still feel the pressure.

Now, I return to the altar at the North Pole.

At the original point from which I had walked, I continue to turn the viewpoint around with my bodies until the altar appears.

However, the altar finally does not appear, even when that melody that signals the regular time begins to play. And just as soon as the picture is taken down before the melody finishes playing, the altar appears again.

Incidentally, at the sixth location, I cannot penetrate the sky except to the South Pole.

So, although I can bring back a picture of Solanum's corpse, I cannot show it to Riebeck while retaining a picture of her alive.

In conclusion, in spite of my wisdom, the state of Solanum was prevented from being confirmed by a mysterious force. It is a complete defeat.

（By the way, I don't understand quantum mechanics, so I don't know all the details.）

been thinking more about my hatchling OC jasper’s backstory and been crying for a trillion years over the concept of feldspar and gossan being their guardians!!

feldspar went missing early in jasper’s life; leaving gossan to raise and protect them. however feldspar wanted jasper to have a journal they wrote of some of their adventures; and gossan gave that to them after they had went missing; inspiring a lifelong interest in space…

this is rly just some comic practice bc i miss drawing comics...updating riebeck on random discoveries is one of my favorite little things u can do in outer wilds and i thought this particular chunk of dialogue was rly charming so i drew it all out.
