Sorry I’m late to the party! I had to email university administration about ableism and go dress shopping for a ball tomorrow, plus a bit of an insomnia crash. I read this when it came out, half-asleep, woke up, thought I dreamt it, and reread it just to make sure I actually understood what I was reading (my timezone is also EST for reference, which meant I slept at 7PM sdkfjnwdk). My sleeping schedule is as messed up as our pal Brucie. No you know what I think he’d also be mildly horrified. ANYWAYS—

I really appreciate how similar Bruce and the reader are. I noticed it before, but this chapter really brings it out—the choice of anger instead of grief, the desire for avenging the people they’ve lost. The thing that really differentiates them is their financial situation. Bruce had the means of wearing a protective suit and creating tools to aid him in his fury, and the reader did not. I wonder though, if, after calling Bruce out (because they’re finally onto him!), he’d make a suit for them. Probably not because he’s angst incarnate and wants to keep them safe at all costs and wouldn’t be able to let it go if they got hurt, but, you know, would be nice if he modified her uniforms to have some sort of protective layer at the very least. Side note: “I’ve been doing this for longer than you have” like okay man but once upon a time you had to start somewhere and you were exactly in the same spot. The hypocrisy—

Bruce is being so soft and gentle with the reader and I’m here for it. He gets a little carried away too (I wonder if that odd look when the reader explained they wouldn’t want to explain the Batmobile to Bruce Wayne was because he forgot they didn’t know he was Bruce Wayne). Angling himself so the breeze wouldn’t hit them? It’s the smallest thing but it’s the kindest thing that anybody has ever thought of. He would protect them from anything, including THE WIND. Mother Nature herself. (I now have a mental image Batman throwing fists at the wind like that one guy who had his soldiers stab the ocean because he was mad at Poseidon.) Also love the reversal of roles that happens. Bruce now makes them food (to the best of his ability, sweet innocent bean) while they have to calm down from the night they’ve had when it’s usually them meeting the other way around. I also appreciate how so many of their interactions involve food. I come from a culture where you bring/have food at basically every social gathering, so I’m just living for it. Food brings people together like nothing else.

I can’t wait for the next chapter! You’re an amazing writer and these chapters always give me something to look forward to when I’m experiencing any sort of minor or major inconvenience. “Subway is slow”—you know what, it’s fine because hollandorks is releasing their chapter in two days/a day/a couple of hours. You should really be proud of what you’ve created because it really is as amazing as everybody’s been saying. Plus, it’s united so many people—just look at your taglist! I’m probably not the only one who thinks of your work or waits for your next chapter (unless I am, but anyone would tell you I am as chaotic as fifty men, so still more than one).

I really wanted to lean hard into their similarities in this chapter! I think that someone who is going to be with Bruce has to be similar to him, at least a little, in order to better understand him. Because he really needs someone who understands him! And yes, the hypocrisy is strong, but that's our angsty Bruce 💀

And yes, that's along the lines of what I was thinking with the odd look. Like, "why would you have to explain it to Bruce Way, I am Bruce Wayne! Oh wait...."
