synopsis: from one admirer to another, an online penpal service, allows for two people with common interests to write to each other without ever revealing their actual address! Luckily for both you and Leon, you get matched up! What do eggs and Christmas even have in common anyway? sure hope it's that modeling business and NOT that Ada Wong addiction.

Dear scrambled eggs:

it feels strange to write to someone in such a format, but I suppose I should get used to it. We got paired up via from one admirer to another because of our shared passion for Ada Wong. I find it a little amusing that someone else just straight-up put a model's name instead of modeling on its own, but I'm glad you did.

As an ada stan, I feel the need to ask this immediately. How did you feel about her helicopter shoot? I'm hoping you aren't some weird stan like those... yeah. Also, while on that topic, if you're really as die-hard as me when I have free time, you should read glhf <3 by okaokra on ao3. It's gender-neutral, it's a great fic, unless, of course, you're too normal for reading fanfiction. In that case, maybe we can find another middle ground aside from Ada Wong.

Right, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm user Christmas, a weird translation + twisting of my real name. I live in Raccoon City, and I model as a part-time job because of ... you guessed it, Ada. My dream role is to model with her, but considering that I'm only a local model, this is truly out of my reach. Maybe some strike of luck will help me?

I used to dream of being a cop until I got scouted off the street by some guy for modeling. Do you think I suit it? Who am I kidding, you have no idea what I even look like. Maybe you pass me on the covers of local magazines all the time if you live nearby. I'm not nearly as famous as Ada Wong, though, so I suppose I can never truly call myself a big model until I become someone like her. Even then, she's not a supermodel.

Tell me more about yourself, maybe? What's your favorite holiday? How do you like your eggs in the morning? Do you even eat eggs? Why the name "scrambled eggs" over anything else? What do you do in your free time— oh, I should answer that question.

I seldom have free time lately, but I feel like all I've been doing late is reading the fic that I mentioned earlier. Oh, right, hopefully you enjoy the sticker I got from a fan gathering. I did a little bit of research, and it seems pretty normal to send your penpal small trinkets in the letters, so we'll start with a sticker.

I thought the mail would be digital, and then I was notified that you would prefer physical mail — which, to be fair, I'm not complaining about. I think it would be funny to open a box of letters exchanged between a penpal and I 10 years down the line. Who knows, maybe you'll even be at my wedding.

Right, my apologies for a long first letter, but I'm excited to be starting this.

Leon sends the mail the next morning, rubbing his eyes slowly as he rides the public transport to his next shoot, waving good morning to his manager as he sips on his coffee, hair blushed back and gelled, formal clothes handed to him. Leon finds that he doesn't really suit clothes like this, but for the camera, he puts up with just about everything. He finds it interesting that he would be modeling in clothes he hadn't liked wearing all that much.

"You have another shoot later today, and then you're off for the rest of the weekdays. You have another shoot over the weekend."

Leon nods, blinking slowly as the coffee shoots through his system and he's revived magically. It feels unreal. He's working as a model despite finishing the police academy at the top of his class. Is this what delusion and some sweet talking from a random agent can do to a person? It feels a little wasteful to let his training turn into this, but he's not complaining all that much. Yet. he meets eyes with the model he's supposed to be posing with, blinking in surprise. Wow. That appearance is lethal.

He waves at you, giving you a small smile as you wave back, smiling back.

"New?"

"Mm... moreso someone who doesn't like booking. My manager booked this months in advance, so I'm here." You stay still as the makeup artist finishes with you, Leon raising a brow as you give him a cheeky grin.

"Did you leave before your makeup was finished?"

"I wanted to meet you. I heard I was modeling with someone pretty well-known." You grin. "Leon Kennedy, was it?"

"Yes. Am I that big now?"

"Mm... you're quite a name amongst us local models." You tap your chin. "It's quite an honor modeling with you. I heard you have deadly biceps."

"Well, you can't see them through the suit."

"It comes off, no? I'll just fix it." You tilt your head.

"And how do I know you won't jump my bones?"

"Oh, please. I'm your coworker right now. I'm not someone sketchy." You roll your eyes, helping him free an arm as he flexes for you. You blink at his arms, raising a brow as you stare up at him. "Can I squeeze?"

"As long are you're not weird about it."

You grab his bicep, giving it a squeeze as you nod slowly. "God, I need your arm routine. You got a trainer? I'd like to get that contact."

Leon rolls his eyes, fighting the blush that threatens to creep up his neck from your skin contact. God, what is he? fourteen? Get a grip, Leon. "Gotta get that from my manager, then."

"Shame." You sigh, helping him put the suit jacket back. "Maybe the next time I bump into you, I'll have biceps of a greek god too."

"Leon, model two! You two are up!"

"Wow, they don't even name you?"

"Maybe I just like being mysterious."

Going back to the boys hotel room they sit to hear about the Elevator Ritual game but the brothers weren't that excited, "It's ritual time." Sam turns to them.

"Love the sound of that." Matt sighs.

"We're gonna do something we've never done before on this channel." Sam starts, "The Elevator Game." The three applaud, "You guys said you love elevators right?"

"I hate elevators." Matt says once again.

"Perfect." Sam tells him, "Which is interesting because for this ritual we need a singular volunteer." He adds and all the guys look at Matt so he agrees to do it.

"Don't forget about our deal Matt." Dani leans forward to look at him from the other side of Colby.

Sam goes on to explain the whole game and how it's supposed to work and what they have to do, "Chris, we'll have to get our licenses immediately." Nick speaks up.

"I know." Chris agrees, "I'm really considering who's going to do the laundry now." He adds.

"They're gonna just be twins after this." Colby jokes.

"I gotta remember free food." Matt tells himself.

"If she didn't would you still do it?" Chris asks him so Matt tells him he rather it be him then him or Nick.

"I feel like you'd just do better in the elevator than Chris would." Matt adds telling Nick and Chris agrees with that statement.

"He just knows you're the least fit for it." Nick adds and Chris still agrees to it.

Down in the lobby Matt says this will either make his fear of elevators ten times worse or ten times better to which Nick says it can't actually get better, #Welcometothechannel." Sam tells him.

"Are you going to say goodbye to your siblings? You might never see them again." Colby tells him so he and the others hug each other goodbye talking about things they want of his when he doesn't come back.

"Dude, I'm not dead yet."

As Matt and Sam get into the elevator the other wish them good luck and goodbye, "Oh right, I need photos for your prayer cards." Nick takes pics of Matt in the elevator.

"Best brother award goes to." Dani laughs.

"Alright, one two three. Please take us to another world."

"Bye bye, be safe guys." Dani waves so Matt does a little wave back as the doors close.

As the four wait for them to come back, Nick's EMF finally goes off as they walk around, "This thing is called the onvoy it's basically going to say yes or no." Colby pulls out the device but then another guest in the background startles him, "Gahh, that guy scared the fuck out of me."

"That haircut..." Nick says then covers him mouth as Colby and Chris laugh.

"Nick, it's super quiet in here." Dani's eyes widen.

"Sorry, that was terrible."

"So something has to physically touch it like that." Colby explains how it works.

"Are Sam and Matt going to make it back to us, do you think?" Chris asks the thing and it says yes right before the two come right back.

"You're done already?" Nick says surprised how fat it went.

"We only asked it one question." Colby tells the two.

"The one question I asked is, is Sam and Matt going to come back down." Chris tells them, "And it said yes and then it opened."

"Do you want to do it alone?" Sam asks Matt.

"I would-, I don't-, I'd have to write down the numbers..." Matt pulls out his phone.

"Seriously alone?" Dani asks shocked.

"What if you never come back Matt?" Chris asks him, "And you're fully alone in another world? Nick or Dani go with." He looks at the two.

"No," Nick walks away.

"I'm not." Chris makes clear.

Lady

"Dani, that's you." Sam laughs looking at her stare at the box in Matt's hand before the elevator opens by its self, "Oh my god! I guess that's a yes I'm going with."

"Guys? Is that a sigh we should do it one more time?" Sam asks the group.

"I say go for it." Chris looks at the two.

"That was so fast you have to." Colby tells them, "Plus you two attract ghosts." He adds, "The goal of the game is to get a lady to come right?" Colby asks then hear how that sound as everyone laughs. "Wait, wait, ahh please cut that." He turns the camera towards himself.

"Dude Dani..." Sam laughs.

"As in a ghost lady to step inside the elevator." Colby makes clear, "No funny business with sis." He looks at Matt giving him a certain look.

"Dude, there's a camera." Matt gets embarrassed.

"You guys are killing me. Let's get this over with." She claps her hands to go so they step into the elevator.

"Please take us to another world." They both say together.

"I may regret saying that but hey, see you guys later." Matt says as the doors start to close.

As the doors close Sam starts to crack up, "I can't believe you just let Dani go with him. You never leave her alone with any guys."

"I'm her older brother. I'm protective of her." Colby sighs as Sam keeps laughing.

"Not even me and I'm you're best friend." Sam points out.

"That's not entirely true."

While they make fun of Colby before starting to ask yes or no question, Matt and Dani hope no one will interrupt them because then they fail at the game. On the first floor they go to there was luckily nobody there.

"Next number is two." Matt look at his phone pressing the button while Dani held the box.

"So far off to a good start." Dani nods her head as they move to the next floor and there was nobody again so they go to the next floor.

"The thing that scares me the most about this is that the elevator is squeaking." Matt points out what Dani has been trying to ignore for the past couple of seconds.

"I've been trying not to pay attention to it and you have to point it out. It makes my anxiety want to act up badly." Dani plays with her fingers to calm her down as the doors open to show no one.

"You have bad anxiety too?" Matt asks pressing the next floor, "Mine gets so so bad at times." He tells her about his.

"I take meds for mine so that explains how bad mine is." She giggles.

"I can't believe I'm doing this." He sighs putting his head back.

"I literally said you couldn't pay me to do this yet here I am." They both laugh but suddenly stop.

"Oh my god that one I felt the drop."

They both stay quite for a few seconds till Dani realizes something, "Matt, we're not moving..."

Glad you asked, my fine friend! They're a fictional flower I made up based on these pretty little blooms on the roof of the mansion!

(Don't mind the fire. Luigi is totally fine.)

Here's my silly little doodled rendition for reference!

Banshee Blossoms are symbols of love, romantic and platonic, even familial! There's a tradition in the Boo Kingdom where you give one to someone you care about. They're said to bless whomever is gifted one with good luck and a happy relationship for the rest of their lives into their afterlife! Theyre pale white flowers that glow like moonlight with purple foliage.

They only bloom in the month of March, so now is the best time to come and view them!

- What's this event all about?

This event is tailor made for those of you who selfship or self insert as well as anyone who has Luigi's Mansion ocs! You're all welcome to attend! I'll be hosting it along with my darling husband King Boo 💕

It's just a small, relaxed event for everyone to have fun with whether you're an artist or not.

The general thing you can do is go around to your friends' ask boxes and leave them Banshee Blossoms should you feel so inclined. But we also have... Prompts!

5wirls x FEM!reader (today is Xiao's turn!) Decided to change my writing style

This is long but it's worth the time!

You're the embodiment of excellence with your straight A's and sporty prowess. A captivating blend of cool and chill, you excel in nearly everything you do, while maintaining your approachable and friendly demeanor. It's impossible not to admire you; in fact, you possess a multitude of secret admirers. Your Valentine's days are always marked by returning home with a bag brimming with chocolates.

You are quite likable, and many people appreciate your company. Some may even envy your qualities, while others take pride in knowing you.

It's yet another school day, and you walk confidently down the hallway, exchanging morning greetings with others. The day starts off well, but then the teacher announces the arrival of a new student. 'Alright, everyone, let's make him feel welcome,' she says as she places her hand on the back of the boy with dark teal hair. The boy gazes down shyly, radiating nervousness.

"Okay, Y/N, you'll give him a tour around the school after the morning assembly."

Shortly after, the teacher informed the class about who was absent and shared some other news. You smiled at the shy boy, who always seems to keep his head down."

Alright, that's the conclusion of the morning assembly. Let's aim to avoid causing any disruptions, everyone. Y/N, you're free to leave."

The boy walks alongside you, attentive to every word that escapes your lips. He has taken an interest in the school's backyard.

Of course, he's very quiet. You would've guessed that. 'Anyways, this is the library. It's open from 8 am to 10 am. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.' You glance at the reserved boy and say, 'I don't have any questions,' to which he responds.

"Alright, let's head to our classroom," you said. You were quite relaxed, with a smile on your face as both of you walked through the empty halls. "Thank you for the tour," he said as he made his way back to his seat. "No problem."

The lessons seemed to stretch endlessly, until finally, it was time for lunch. While chatting with your friends, you happened to catch sight of Xiao. Suddenly, a gyaru approached his desk and slammed her hand onto it, her loud voice easily audible to almost everyone. "Hey, you're pretty cute. Wanna date?" she said in a smug tone. Xiao turned his emotionless gaze towards the girl, taking several minutes to study her expressionlessly.

"You've fallen in love with me, I see! Heh!" The gyaru chuckled mischievously, saying, "Come follow me, boy." Despite her command, he remained seated, prompting a quiet growl from the gyaru. "I'm not interested in you," Xiao responded, his gaze fixed on his book. Once again, the gyaru took his book and glanced at the title. "You're interested in this type? I knew you were useless. Ugh, it's so hard to find a suitable companion these days!" Angrily, the gyaru stormed out of the classroom.

The attention of everyone was captured by the situation involving Xiao and the gyaru. "Show's over," I murmured, my expression slightly tinged with concern as I glanced at Xiao. "Hey Xiao! Would you like to join us for a meal?"

My friend, Venti, extended an invitation to him. Xiao turned towards us and gave a nod. He pulled a chair from the nearby table and joined us at ours, remarking, "That's a beautiful bento box."

Shenhe, my best friend, complimented Xiao's bento box, saying, "Hmm, it looks amazing." Xiao picked up his chopsticks.

"Alright! Let's dig in!" Venti said.

"いただきます!" (Let's eat!)

Venti talked about the latest topic on Twitter while Xiao continued eating, all the while attentively listening to Venti.

"Aren't boy bands becoming popular? Should I consider starting one?" Venti inquired. "I think people might mistake you for a girl!" I chuckled. "If that happens, I'll be excited to see your performance," Shenhe commented. "Oh! Really? I never knew Shenhe was into bands!" Venti teased. Venti had finished eating and placed his lunch in his bag.

"I'm going to join the music club!" Venti declared confidently. "Wait, do you play an instrument?" I asked. "Hmm, good point. I play the lyre – that's an instrument! I'm going there right now!" Venti exclaimed, rushing out of the classroom to sign up for the music club.

After Venti signed up, you inquired about his reasons for joining the music club. "Heh, it's a shortcut to popularity!" Venti exclaimed. "Oo! How about having Xiao join as well?" I suggested, although that turned out to be a poor idea. Now, every day, Venti begged Xiao to join the music club.

In class:

Venti whispered, "Pss, pass this to Xiao." The classmate next to him passed it along to others, repeating Venti's words. Eventually, it reached Xiao.

(JOIN THE MUSIC CLUB !!! WITH ME !!)

Xiao looked at Venti and mouthed "NO." Venti glanced at his notebook in disappointment, but he wasn't giving up.

Locker room:

It was time for PE. Xiao and Venti were inside the boys' locker room, changing into their gym clothes.

"Pss!! Xiao, you should join the music club!" Venti peeked his head into Xiao's locker. "You have a perfect figure!" Venti's eyes sparkled. "Jackpot!"

Unfortunately, this startled Xiao, causing him to quickly rush out of the locker room after changing.

Misunderstanding Venti, "W-wait, Xiao!!" Venti reached his hand out, but Xiao was too quick. Venti sighed sadly. However, he wasn't giving up.

Even in the bathroom; Xiao sought refuge from the crowded hallway. He lingered there until the throng subsided, deciding to remain for just a little while longer. Xiao retrieved his book, delving into the pages of a brand-new novel he had borrowed from the school's library.

As he peacefully read, an unsettling sensation washed over him; he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being observed. He pondered, puzzled by the idea of someone wanting to watch him, especially in such a private setting as the bathroom.

Xiao's discomfort grew, prompting him to scan his surroundings. It wasn't long before he discovered the source of his unease: Venti was peering at him through a small gap in the door. Reacting swiftly, Xiao flung the door wide open, inadvertently striking Venti in the process.

Venti exclaimed, "OW!" However, Xiao disregarded him, proceeding to wash his hands before leaving the bathroom.

After all the suffering Xiao endured due to Venti, someone finally inquired about his well-being – and that someone was you.

"Xiao, how has the past week been treating you?" you asked with enthusiasm, hoping for a positive response. However...

"Venti... He's been stalking me all day at school. Sometimes, I even feel watched when I'm at home. He even followed me into the bathroom!"

As Xiao voiced his complaints about Venti, the more he talked, the higher his frustration became.

"Well, that's just Venti. Since he's taken an interest in you, why not give in?" you suggested. "It's not always about popularity!"

"i don't want to join the music club and seek popularity!" Xiao protested, giving an excuse.

"Hey, it's not always about popularity. Some join because of a genuine love for music. Others join to pursue dreams of becoming a singer or something similar," you explained. "I can really envision you commanding the stage!"

Your laughter caused Xiao's cheeks to turn slightly red. "W-well, okay, if you say so."

"how about we go check out the music club? Aha!" Xiao walks alongside you to the music club. the door slides, revealing five other males.

Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange: Important Announcement

Hey there, everyone. It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to begin the process of closing the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange. The exchange will officially close on August 29th of next year (2024).

The primary reasons for this decision are a lack of funds and a lack of commitable time. The lack of funds in particular has made it impossible to keep up with annual increases in PO box pricing, ever-growing postage rates, and maintenance of required tech.

Explanation of Circumstances

The decision to close the MFPE came down to two things: money and time.

Since opening in August 2020, we have spent $1,260.09 in postage, $582 in PO box fees, and $180.31 on certain miscellaneous gifts to our members. That last number does NOT include the cost of things won from our Prize Vault, the cost of items distributed during our Member Appreciation Giveaway, or other gifts that were never itemized. In other words, far more has been spent than the $2,022.40 outlined above.

As of October 6, 2023, the MFPE has received $757.53 in donations, and we have been grateful for every penny. But the MFPE was never meant to run off of donations.

Why? Well, Vex (that's me) had a secure, stable, well-paying job for over a decade and expected to stay at said job until retirement. I definitely did not expect to become increasingly unable to work due to traumatic stress. In fact, when my therapist suggested I take a long break from work, I laughed and said it would be impossible. (Ha ha ha.) So instead of applying for the short- and long-term disability benefits I had access to at the time, I kept going and going until I suddenly reached my breaking point and quit my job in a fit of desperate frustration.

That is the simplified version of the story. The tl;dr version would be: I used to make money and now I don't.

But even if it were possible to fund the MFPE purely through donations, Rebel and I are still unable to commit the time.

This is a loaded question, anon. You know it. I feel like I'm about to open Pandora's box. I'll try and be as fair and diplomatic as possible.

The benefits of free speech and having a platform to express our opinions is something that should be cherished. The more diverse the community is, the better. It means there's a wide sprectrum of thought, less chances of having a cult mentality and so on. This is an ideal situation and far from reality. And to talk more specifically about jikook bloggers here, you'd only have had to scroll through the tag in the last year or so to see cliques and conflicts all over the place. It's not uncommon and watching it from the side, reading all the arguments painted a dark picture but quite realistic. There's a need for conformism. It doesn't matter if one runs away from it, at some point or another, it reaches that same conclusion.

I'm someone who always stood outside, looking in in the context of this community here. I'd tag my posts from time to time, but I kept my independence. Mostly because I didn't have a jikook-focused blog, nor will I, despite me talking more freely now about the topic.

People's blogs are a reflection of themselves, of their affinities and also their abilities. Each of us likes one or another, depending on what we're looking for. We also tend to judge people for what and how they express their opinions. It's not unusual. We're a judgy species, despite sometimes trying really hard to appear the opposite of it.

Some bloggers have as a purpose demonstrating the relationship is real and that is their entire focus. Others like to write a long summary of events or basically transcribe into text what they see in video format (a succesful formula here on tumblr from what I could tell). Some people can come up with really good arguments against ridiculous statements. And sometimes they get lost in the argument because it's unstructured in some almost 300-400 word answer. All of it gets repetitive too. I've seen fun bloggers with a good sense of humor and some big dosage of delusion. Hey, sometimes we can and should be clowns. But not to the point of absurdity.

The fact that all of that exists is in theory a good thing. But a lot of those blogs are also becoming platforms built on allowing space for weirdos to set up camp in the community. From taekookers and crazy solo stans. I understand the need of having a good comeback and tearing apart their asks, but as much as that brings temporary satisfaction, on the long run it ruins the entire vibe. For a long time, that's all I could read about each time I would check the tag. It was infested and instead of fighting against it, it only grew bigger and bigger because those anons got the validation simply by being aknowledged.

You're asking for chill blogs. I think that's a rare occurence now and not really the current phase of jikook blogging. Maybe I'm wrong and I don't know the community well enough, I admit that's a possibility. I do remember a time when it used to be like that. Back when writing about jikook was sometimes combined with a pop culture perspective. Looking at it through a variety of lenses. That made me as a reader definitely interested. That was fun blogging. Now it's all way too serious or honestly? Boring. At least in terms of writing. That's one aspect that holds quite an importance for me. I still check the majority of active blogs, whether I'm a fan or not. I like to be informed, but that's it.

I'm not sure I can answer your question though. I don't see tumblr as the platform for what you want. There's higher chances of finding that on twitter. Sometimes I find accounts with no mentions of any drama, just fun, adult posting.

But I am going to mention two blogs though. Simply because they caught my attention. It's not about me considering them better, but in the current landscape, I found myself enjoying scrolling through them. Minggukieology provides some great cultural context and translation and I'd say it's in the same category as Dalloga. There's also ggulmul. I could be mistaken, but I think it's a more recent blog. I liked the attitude displayed in the blogger's answers. There was a sort of elegance in the way they responded and the appearance at least of a lack of chronic online presence. It's usually evident in the way a person expresses their thoughts.

All of what I wrote is based on mostly what is evident from the blogs which utilize the jikook tag. Others daily while some do it rarely, but are still known presences in the community. There's also a few who do not do that so who knows what is out there?

As a last thought, sometimes I would find myself scrolling through a random blog that had some kpop posting, but it wasn't fandom or ship focused. And from time to time, they would reblog a gifset or a jikook photo and they would put their thoughts into the tag. No agenda, no need to demonstrate or disprove anything. Sometimes small stuff like "boyfriend behavior" or "the gays are at it again", etc., in typical tumblr language. And then they'd move on and have like 5-10 reblogs about some archeological site or some historical event. Whatever. It was casual. I always wanted that vibe. Being outside of fandom discourse allows some type of freedom in which no one comes and harasses you in the inbox because you don't agree with a theory.

Here is my own version of the psychosis/schizospec flag, with the symbol, primary colours and moon motif pulled from actuallyschizophrenic, while otherwise being unabashedly inspired by charb's flag. The explanation/description is pretty long so I'll tuck it underneath the read more (along with other ids). Feel free to use thesez!! Just tag me if u do anythingz cool w/ them cause I wanna see!!

The flag centers the symbol of the schizospec/psychotic community: an arrow pointing either way, left and right, (symbolizing the vastness, scope, and diversity of the community) with a wave in the middle (symbolising positive and negative symptoms). It's coloured purple, one of our representing colours, featuring a pink outline to help with the cohesion of the flag.

Behind it are two overlapping circles: one a light grey like silver (our other representing colour), and one a dark purple. White and black can often be seen as ethereal colours (embodying light or the abyss), so I knew I wanted to include them for their otherworldly properties, and so the overlapping is like the inbetweens or overlapping of what we perceive and experience if that makes sense. The overlapping circles also create a crescent moon, another symbol claimed by the community because psychotics are a bunch of "lunatics". It's outlined in grey to help with the cohesion of the flag.

The impression of a pink arrow's point continues to either edge of the flag (also outlined in grey), emphasising the centered symbol while also seperating the top and bottom's colours. Shapes come off the top and bottom of the pink, imitating a wave. The waves on the top half are a lighter purple with a purple background, the bottom a lighter red with a red background (outlined in pink). These are akin to lines on a typical flag.

To pull from charb's description of the colours:

Purple; the good side of schizospec disorders/being proud of being schizospec despite everything. Red; the reclaimation and/or the hatred of harmful tropes of us in media. Grey & Black; the unfortunate bad side of schizospec disorders and the strength it takes to deal with it. Pink; acceptance and the hope for better treatment from others.

And next to that is its geometric counterpart, which should be a BIT easier to reproduce.. But I think it's pretty obvious I made the flag to be more artistic than practical.

The symbol is the same, but the circles have been changed to verticle lines. About a quarter of the flag the silver line, a quarter the dark purple line, the overlapping colour a small slither. This block of lines is outlined by grey. To the left and right are horizontal lines, alternating between large and small lines. Top to bottom, starting with a large line: purple, (pink), light purple, (grey), pink, (grey), light red, (pink), red.

The night hunt was successful. The ghost had been calmed with few problems and nobody had been hurt in the process. Unfortunately, Yao JiChen had been a little too excited about his first night hunt – as they'd began their trek away from the site, he tripped and fell over tangled tree roots, severely twisting his ankle and leaving him unable to walk without assistance.

He was currently leaning into Wei Wuxian's side, using him as a support as the group made their way in the early morning light.

The road was mostly empty with only a couple of merchants passing by, taking advantage of the early hour to make a head start on their day. The disciples, despite the small injury, were still excitedly talking about their first hunt and prodding Wei Wuxian into giving them advice and praise.

They really were adorable.

“So the next time you try that talisman,” he finished his explanation to Li Lian, “put a little less qi into it.”

“Shixiong?” Hong YuMei tugged at his sleeve. “Someone's coming.”

The group shifted to the side of the narrow road, anticipating the passing of another merchant with a cart full of wares. When he glanced back, however, Wei Wuxian only saw a horse and rider wreathed in the morning's shadows. As they approached, they passed through a beam of sunlight that had managed to make its way through the canopy above, highlighting the rider.

Wei Wuxian grinned.

“Nie-xiong!” he shouted, lifting a hand to wave to his friend. “What are you doing in Yunmeng? You're a week early.”

The horse's canter quickened until it came to a stop next to the group of disciples. “Wei-xiong!” Nie Huaisang patted the horse's neck, and it snorted in response. “Da-ge was threatening to cancel my visit if I didn't train my saber more, so I thought it best to leave home before he made good on his threat.”

“I should have guessed. It isnice to see you again, my friend.” He felt pressure on his shoulders as Yao JiChen shifted his weight. “I... don't suppose you could spare your mount for a short while?”

Nie Huaisang glanced down at the way Yao JiChen was leaning on Wei Wuxian. “Can he ride?”

The disciple nodded. “It's been years, since before I joined the Jiang, but I still remember the basics.”

Wei Wuxian was relieved when the disciple pulled away a little bit as he reached out to pet the horse's flank. Nie Huaisang nodded and gracefully dismounted. “Laopo is very gentle, so she shouldn't give you much issue.”

Together, Nie Huaisang and Wei Wuxian helped the injured disciple up onto the horse, and moments later, the young man was trotting away alongside his fellow juniors. Wei Wuxian slung an arm over Nie Huaisang's shoulders and stayed back a little so they could speak among themselves.

“I'm actually really glad you came early, Nie-xiong – I have something I need your help with.”

“Oh?” A folding fan snapped open and moved to cover Nie Huaisang's curving lips. “And what in the heavens could that be?”

“A mission of utmost importance. I need some time off, and for that, I need to get Jiang Cheng married.”

Nie Huaisang nearly stumbled over something on the road. “<i>Married</i>?!”

“Keep it down,” Wei Wuxian hushed. “You know we're rebuilding, and most of the sect is so young, so Shijie and I are pretty much the only ones really helping Jiang Cheng get the work done. But if he were married, with a proper Jiang-furen there to handle a good part of the load, then all of our lives would go so much easier.”

“You'd even have time to make a visit to Gusu,” Nie Huaisang responded with a glint in his eye. “For some Emperor's Smile, of course.”

“Of course.” He grinned. “So, what do you think? Are you up to helping me find Jiang Cheng a wife? I figured if there was anyone with a romantic bone in their body, it would be you.”

“Well I'm very flattered, Wei-xiong. I don't suppose it would be <i>that</i> difficult. Jiang-xiong is quite a handsome man, and a sect leader, both attractive qualities.”

“At least until he opens his mouth and barks at you.”

Nie Huaisang shrugged. “In that he's no worse than Da-ge, and we still get letters regularly asking him to meet with some sect leader's daughter or sister or maiden aunt. Some of them can get rather... explicit.”

“At least we know where to start.”

“The list?”

Wei Wuxian grinned. “The list. I doubt there's anyone who could fit all of his qualifications, but I'm sure there must be someone who fits enough that he might like them a little.”

“And what sects will we look to for candidates?”

“Not just sects. I want Jiang Cheng to be happy, and he doesn't need to marry a cultivator. As long as she's good for him, it doesn't matter where she comes from. And you don't need to cultivate to manage a lot of the administrative work around Lotus Pier.”

Nie Huaisang made a face. “So much work, running a sect.”

“Don't worry, we won't put you to work while you're visiting – other than helping me with this, that is.”

“I'm very reassured, Wei-xiong. But I do have one question.”

“That is?”

“Have you asked Jiang-xiong what he thinks about this?”

“That's why I have you, Nie-xiong. I trust in your powers of persuasion...”

FAQ

What is the WIP Big Bang? Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them!

Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Livejournal, Dreamwidth, Tumblr, and Twitter at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.

How many fics can we sign up for? We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups. I know one year someone submitted 50 fics to finish, and got at least half of them done. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one fic you give each fic a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your fics...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins).

Will I get emails about the bang? We do send out some emails, mostly for snippets and art claims and to ensure communication between authors and artists, but please do NOT rely on getting an email to remind you of due dates. We currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.

However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.

What do you mean by minimum word count to enter? This is a WIP Big Bang, therefore we ask you to have at least 500 words of your story drafted when you enter.

Can an outline count towards those first 500 words that are needed at sign up? We have admitted work on an outline before so yes, if your outline is fleshed out enough to cover a 7,500 word+ fic, we’ll allow it.

Are multi-chapter fics allowed? Yes, multi-chapter fics are allowed and even more so encouraged if your fic is lengthy.

What about fics that are already posted on ao3 in part? Do those qualify for the bang? It's okay if you have posted a few chapters of your fic already (you never know when the muse deserts you, after all), we just require you to refrain from posting more until posting begins here. All we ask is that you not post any public updates to the fic until August 1st (or July 1st with the mod’s okay). We don’t want you to lose kudos and comments so don’t worry about pulling the fic down, just hold off on updates for now.

Is there a minimum word count? 7,500 words for each finished fic, but the sky's the limit, right?

I see that the fic minimum is 7500 words and that published WIPs are acceptable - but what if the WIP I’m considering is already more than 7500 words? Is the expectation to add an additional 7500 to it? No. You can add as much or as little as you need to finish the story, though we do expect at least 1,000 or so new words if your WIP already meets the word count.

What happens if an author finishes the fic they signed up with but it’s less than 7,500 words? The intent was to go over the minimum but once they got into it the story was shorter than they thought and stretching it out would make it less good. Do they have to drop out at that point? By all means, we want your stories to feel as natural as possible, and if it’s under 7,500 words you may have two options:

1 - Drop the fic for the main BB event, post it now, and wait to post it to our AO3 collection in February when we run our International Fanworks Day celebration of finishing fics that are less than 7,500 words when finished. There’s no art for the fic, but bragging rights are posted to the communities for a week.

2 - If there are enough fics that fit that category, we can do a special day of posting the fics, but you’ll have to forgo art for the fic. I, as a mod, would probably pick September 30th for the posting day, as it’s the last day of posting for the bang and I don’t think anyone will mind more than one fic that day. You can post bragging rights to the community and share the fic with everyone.

Is there anything not allowed? As long as you wrote it and you want to finish it, you're welcome to participate. RPS/RPF is fine. Incest pairings are fine. Things like that I know have been hinted at in questions asked and as long as you tag for them, we’ll allow it. Also, canon settings with mostly OCs is allowed. We just ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you would deem fit and be given the appropriate rating for the level of sex/violence there is in the fic.

Original Work was not originally part of this Bang, but as there are not any current Original Fiction Big Bangs running (that we are aware of), we may revisit that next year.

I have a fic I wrote a few years ago, but only the first couple chapters are posted on AO3 because I was never happy with the rest of it and knew it needed major revision. Is that something I could use for WIP Big Bang? The entire fic has been posted, but only on one platform, and it would be rewritten for AO3 and WIPBB.

I think revising a fic for posting would work, as long as you have at least 500 words done, will have 7,500 words at a minimum when it’s done, and are planning to add more to the fic. Simply rewriting what you have would be a gray area, but if you’re going to take stuff out and add new scenes, either in the old scenes place or on your own, you should be fine.

What's the etiquette around OC-centric stories? Ones that are set in a well known fandom and use several characters, but still lean a lot on original characters? Are they discouraged, or fine?

Based on my own personal experience making art for a story that had a heavy OC presence, it’s not something we discourage at all, but be forewarned when it comes to the art accompanying your fic your artist may not be able to incorporate the OCs into your art. Not everyone makes art of a hand-drawn or digitally drawn nature, so it helps if you have people for face claims ahead of art submissions, and you and your artist communicate regularly. You can also end up with art not featuring the OCs at all, just the canon characters, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Your other options are to bring in an artist you trust with your vision of your OC/make your own art (we do allow that, we just need to be told during the check-in before art that you’re bringing in your own artist if you go that route, or that you’re doing your own art…there will not be a need to sign up in the artist’s sign up, however) or to opt-out of art entirely. So there’s plenty of options to call on when it comes time for art.

What are 'check-ins’? These are a way for us to see what you've been up to and for you to make sure you're still on track. It will give you a little nudge/reminder if you need it, but they are not compulsory. Basically a form is posted that you fill out with your user ID (unique for each fic) and a checkbox to let us know you’re still participating, plus a section for any notes for the mods.

They’re usually up for about a week, so don’t worry if you can’t check-in immediately once the forms go live.

How are the check in IDs used? They are solely for the mods organizational purposes. Each ID being for a separate story allows us to keep all the information you submit during check-ins and for snippets in one line on our spreadsheet. You don’t have to share your check in IDs with anyone else if you don’t want to.

How much progress should authors be making between each checkpoint? (Percentage-wise from our estimated total wc, I guess?) Ideally, with each check-in, you should be at least 25% closer to finishing. The end word count only really matters in that the fic needs to be at least 7,500 words when done, so it’s more your progress towards finishing that should be measured, not so much the word count.

just out of interest, what are your thoughts on whump? i know you make some awesome angst hcs for hero, so i started wondering :)

Aww thank you so much, Anon! It really means a lot to us to hear that you like our blog! 😊 We really appreciate all of your kind words and your ask. 💙

We will admit that despite running a blog called "Hero Deserves To Be Happy," we do revel in some Hero angst every now and again and will occasionally (emotionally) torment him in our headcanons and writings (A/N: Thank you for your compliments on our Hero angst hcs, by the way. You're very kind), but as a general rule, we both tend to prefer hurt/comfort rather than pure angst, especially of the whump variety. We have read and enjoyed a few whump fics here and there and have nothing against whump as long as it's properly tagged with warnings when appropriate. However, it's not something either of us have ever really sought out specifically and/or created ourselves.

All of that said, we can definitely see how Hero's character might lend himself to whump. Poor Hero has been through a lot. In many ways, Hero angst is absolutely warranted, and it's almost like the canon itself is "Hero whump" at times. We feel strongly that it would be a disservice to him as a character to ignore or shy away from his internal turmoil and the grief and suffering he has experienced in his life, but ultimately, it is difficult for us, personally, to leave him in that sad and despairing place so we try to let him have a least a little peace, comfort, and/or hopefulness in the end of what we create. Obviously, an angst specific headcanon doesn't allow for that and that's okay. To be honest, we have many Hero angst headcanons between the two of us, but it would be difficult for us to write something lengthy and involved (like a whole story, for instance) that didn't at least end on a more hopeful note, if it wasn't full hurt/comfort to begin with. We like to think that no matter how angsty we might get when it comes to Hero, it's always accompanied by at least the hope (whether spoken or unspoken) that there is something good out there for him on the other side of all that pain and suffering, which is one of the main reasons we tend to lean more hurt/comfort with our more angsty content whenever we can.

In terms of what whether we would be willing to write whump or not, it really depends on the type of whump, as it is our understanding that it is a very broad genre. Most emotional whump would probably be fine, especially given the context of Hero's life and everything he has been through in the canon (plus, it's probably a bit too obvious from our "When Sun Shines Again" series that we have absolutely no problem sending Hero through the emotional wringer 😅). Physical injuries or illnesses would depend on the circumstances but would most likely be okay as long as they wouldn't need to be described in gory detail. However, we wouldn't really be comfortable writing torture of any kind or anything that would require ultra-specific and/or gory details. As with our other requests, we would have to respectfully ask for the right to politely decline any whump request that made one or both of us uncomfortable, but if there's something specific you want to ask for angsty headcanon about, please feel free to send it in and we would be happy to write it for you.

In the Spadesverse universe, there are four kingdoms. Every kingdom represents an aspect of what keeps the world going and humanity’s connection to it. They all have their individual roles to fulfil- Protectors for every one of this world's fundamental mechanisms, thus each nation is known to oversee a certain aspect of this world’s magic. The ability to control these ‘types’ of magic depends on how dangerous the magic is, some can be used by everyone, whilst others are trusted to the Monarchs alone. It is the duty of each monarchy to work together to bring balance, peace, and prosperity.

The four kingdoms are Diamonds, Hearts, Clubs, and Spades.

Diamonds

Magic

Diamonds’ connection is with nature. Their magic lies within controlling the elements; Earth, fire, water, and air. These are of course umbrella terms, water can extend to ice and other liquids, earth can also refer to plant life, etc. Elemental magic is the easiest to master as people are surrounded by nature, though it comes most naturally to citizens born in Diamonds or anyone who has ancestry from said nation, but it is not limited to just Diamonds alone. It can be wielded by anyone without connections to Diamonds who has a basic knowledge of magic or anyone in tune with nature. However, there have been cases where people have been able to resort to elemental magic without having studied any sort of magic before, usually under pressure, in distressing situations, situations that have activated one’s natural ‘fight or flight’, or under intense emotional responses stemming anywhere from joy, grief, rage, etc.

It should be noted, however, that the Diamonds Monarchy wields it the strongest. Diamonds Royals can complete elemental feats that even Masters (A title earned through training in the magical arts and mastering advanced types of magic) deem unimaginable, such as bending significantly more difficult elements like magma, or singlehandedly stopping entire natural disasters which would usually take hundreds, if not thousands, of magic users to stop.

General

Diamonds is known for its wealth and luxury, the nation of lavish galas and garden parties. They earn this wealth from their vast collection of natural resources, which they are able to take full advantage of due to their born ability to wield the elements. Before other kingdoms learned this magic, Diamonds was the first to hone this ability, getting a head start.

Their soil is already naturally rich, but it doesn’t hurt that farmers can make crops sing by taking advantage of plant based magic, for example. Most notably, Diamonds has exploited the caves that run deep within their grounds and the mountains to the North East, using earth based magic to create mines and harness resources all the way from coal to rarer finds like diamonds, hence the name of the nation. It’s fair to say Diamonds was quick to make significant profit, at least when other Kingdoms began to thrive, that is. The palace was decorated with the gold they mined to honour this show of wealth and, eventually, it became their national colour.

To put it simply, Diamonds thrives off of its agriculture and trade of luxury. They’ve become the fashion capital of the world, with fine silks, metals, and shimmering jewels for the most breath-taking of jewellery. You’ll find many aspiring designers migrating here, and often people retire to Diamonds after a lifetime of building their wealth. Diamonds has been able to enjoy the easy, expensive life with little financial concerns for the majority of the populace, leading, also, to a significant boom in leisure. Notably, Diamonds is home to some of the most famous theatres and the leading nation when it comes to the theatrical arts.

Hearts

Magic

True to its name, Hearts’ core magic revolves around the heart- More specifically, a heartbeat. The beginning and end of said beat. The Hearts Monarchy oversees life and death, tracking souls, so to speak. They do this through pendants (Can also be referred to as ‘amulets’). There are two types of pendants: Fertility pendants and soul pendants.

Fertility pendants are used to track pregnancy and the health of an unborn child. They are usually worn when trying to check if someone is pregnant, or if a couple is trying to conceive. A colourful ‘mist’ will appear in the pendant if the wearer is with child. The mist represents the soul of the child. If there is more than one child present, there will be more than one colour depending on how many embryos there are. There will be two colours in the case of twins, three for triplets, etc. The colours of these mists vary, the reason as to why is unknown. Some say certain colours depict what personality type your child will have, similar to Zodiac signs. There is no evidence to support this theory, however, and so the colour of the mist seems to be just up to chance. One colour is known, however, and only happens in a particular scenario. The mist inside a fertility pendant will turn black in the case of a miscarriage, which only happens if there is infidelity between a couple. Some say this is a punishment given by a higher power, but it is one that seems greatly unjust, especially if the wearer was not the party at fault.

Soul pendants are used to ‘store’ souls. Empty soul pendants will be worn by those who are aware they do not have long left, such as the elderly and/or the severely ill. When they pass, part of their soul/‘life force’ will then be ‘captured’ in the pendant, rather than moving on. Storing a soul using this type of connection to Earth allows the deceased to watch over the living realm as a part of them is still being kept on the physical plain. They can watch over their loved ones from a place most call ‘The Inbetween’. Not much is known of The Inbetween or the afterlife other than this, at least not to anyone still alive.

Soul pendants that are filled with a soul will be given to a loved one of the deceased to wear. The chosen wearer can be named in one’s will if, leading up to their death, the original wearer knows who they want to watch over the most.

A fertility pendant will act as a temporary soul pendant in the case of a miscarriage so that, if the parents wish, their child’s soul can be transferred into an actual soul pendant so that the child, in a way, will still be with them.

Finally, soul pendants (That have a soul inside) can enhance the magic of a wearer by using the life force of the captured soul, but this will weaken the soul overtime until it fades and the connection the deceased once had to the living realm will then be lost, forcing them to fully move on into the afterlife.

Only the Hearts Monarchy and their Makers (Term given to people that manufacture the pendants) can create these pendants. The Monarchy will bestow some of their magic onto Makers, so that they will also have the ability to transfer souls/make pendants that have the ability to capture souls as well. Makers are chosen by the Monarchy and there are very few of them, but they exist to to lessen the workload for the Monarchs themselves so they can still see to their Kingdom’s needs whilst not neglecting the demand for pendants.

It is rumoured that the King and Queen of Hearts share a power that no one else does, however. A final power that links to the human heart. This is the ability to see soulmates. But, again, this is merely a rumour and has not been proven nor disproven.

General

Hearts, well, has a lot of heart. As cheesy as it sounds. But it’s true. This Kingdom is known for its national pride, but also for its sense of community. Citizens will admit that it’s difficult to walk through most villages without at least one grandmother trying to feed them. Children are usually raised by whole towns, not just their own family.

Festivals are not rare in this Kingdom, and they usually surround its citizens’ love of food and alcohol. It’s a wonderful place to go when needing to feel loved and appreciated. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s one of the hotter nations, with a beautifully warm climate.

Moreover, its citizens seem to naturally value life more, and not just their own life for that matter. Many of the world’s best medical schools reside in Hearts, and many of its citizens become doctors, nurses, etc.

Hearts is also known for its art. Diamonds may thrive when it comes to theatre, but Hearts soars when it comes to painting, sculpting, pottery, etc. Both are currently racing to prove who produces the better bards and singers, though.

Clubs

Magic

Clubs' magic revolves around the sun and moon, light and dark, good vs evil, etc. The Clubs Monarchy oversees the balance between light, dark, and neutral magic within the atmosphere, constantly making sure the scales never tip into darkness too much. Dark magic warps people’s minds, makes them give into their darkest desires and selves, having too much of it in the atmosphere can lead to drastic consequences. It will lead people to insanity, create chaos and discord. Thus, it is the Monarchy’s duty to balance out the scales. Say if someone was dabbling in dark magic and they released too much of it into the universe, the Monarchy would balance it out via releasing light magic into the atmosphere, usually by giving out blessings, such as ‘luck’. This is also seen as distributing ‘karma’.

Since balancing the scales is their duty, it is also the role of this Monarchy to decide what types of dark magic are too dangerous and will decide the legislature regarding these types, such as what is illegal and what isn’t, or what needs to be licensed to use, etc. They will consult the other Monarchies before making a final decision, however. Typically, it is also the Clubs Monarchy who will then choose the punishment given to those who are practicing illegal types of magic, such as curses or necromancy.

It is said that the King and Queen can take away one’s ability to do certain types of magic if they begin to abuse their power, and can give this power to remove magic to others they trust, too. It is also said that the King and Queen can harness the energy of the sun and moon to enhance their own magic or the magical abilities of those around them. Neither of these theories have been confirmed.

General

Clubs is...Barren. It’s mountainous terrain, freezing temperatures, and overall snow covered lands makes it difficult to grow almost anything. It’s citizens get by on luck alone, quite literally. The King and Queen throughout history, apparently, have had to bless their citizens with luck just to get by. It’s actually because of this that their national symbol, which had once been a sun, a moon, and an eclipse to represent the balance between light and dark magic, became misinterpreted as a clover through the generations.

It’s main trade is ice and vodka. It doesn’t produce a lot of profit, but it gets them by. Clubs is not a very lively place. Whether this could change or not is up to the New Monarchs.

Spades

Magic

Nothing is known about Spades’ abilities at this point in time. It will remain that way until its Monarchy is found. There are rumours that float around still, from the days of the Old Monarchs, that the Spades Monarchy had the ability to change time. One can dream.

General

Spades is not known for anything yet, other than being the last Kingdom to fall, but also the last to rise again. All they have to show for themselves is a hundred years worth of ruin, like every other Kingdom did before Diamonds rose. They have some farmlands to the West, forests everywhere else, the ruins of old docks. Who knows what the new Monarchy will bring, and who knows what legacy they will create for the Kingdom.

We wanted these AUs to be as broad as possible to give you guys some choices, so here you go!

Day 4: Coffee Shop AU/Adventure AU

a.) Can't go wrong with a feel-good encounter at the local coffee shop! Or maybe it's not local? Who knows! Maybe it's not even a coffee shop. Maybe its a flower shop, or a tattoo parlor, or a different kind of shop entirely!

b.) Adventure is out there! Sailing the high seas and foraging through lands or waters unknown on a grand quest, running into the local superhero or vigilante or supervillain and accidentally getting swept up in an entirely new world, the possibilities are endless! Or maybe every day is an adventure with this QPR?

Day 11: Fantasy AU/Modern AU

a.) Medieval times await! Or maybe your favored taste of fantasy is the supernatural! Angels and demons, knights and dragons and royals, mermaids and fairies, or maybe the QPR are rival wizards who just have to one-up each other. Maybe the decrepit house down the street is rumored to be haunted. Escape from reality!

b.) What's their slice of life look like? Are they in school together? Is one of them is a celebrity of some kind? How does the QPR fare in a modernized setting?

Day 18: Hanahaki AU/Enemies to QPPs

a.) The disease born of unrequited love isn't just limited to romantic love! How does the QPR deal with blooms born of unrequited queerplatonic love?

b.) There's no greater journey than the one taken by two enemies who have learned to trust and love each other. How has their initial relationship changed from those who hate each other to those who trust each other?

Day 25: Soulmate AU/Fake Dating AU

a.) Ending with the classics! Any soulmate AU will do! How does the QPR fare in this predominantly romantic AU? Maybe platonic soulmates are barely heard of, or maybe the QPR fall right in with each other as they were meant to be!

b.) Fake dating, but are they faking a romantic relationship to cover for their queerplatonic love, or are they faking their QPR and eventually fall in queerplatonic love with each other? Who are they hiding it from? What'll happen if they're found out?

Aaron knew something was off when he walked in and all the blinds were shut. You were usually a chipper morning person who would open the blinds before the sun was even up. There were two mugs on the kitchen counter which was unusual - you were one to wash up as you went. The bedroom door was open a crack, letting Aaron know that you were in there. He found you wrapped in your duvet, watching friends on your laptop that was propped up a foot away with the screen tilted just so.

“What’s wrong?” Aaron asked, sitting down next to you, immediately drawing you into an embrace.

“Nothing,” You said with a shrug, “Everything… I don’t know, I just feel meh,”

“Meh?” Aaron asked to confirm, when you nodded, holding back a sniff, he rubbed his hand up and down your arm comfortingly, “Okay, I can work with meh,” You had told Aaron when you first got together nearly two years ago about your depression - Aaron was familiar with the mental illness, obviously. But he had done further research nonetheless. He learnt about treatment, ways close friends and family can support an individual, he asked Reid a load of questions, get a lot of answers, and had come up with a plan of action for when you were feeling shitty.

You didn’t reply, just giving a soft hum as you continued to watch The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. A loud ruffling in the living room caught your attention, but your eyes remained focused on the show until Aaron walked through the door holding a small cardboard box.

“What have you got there?” You asked quietly.

“It’s my ‘meh’ supply kit,” Aaron answered with a smile, giving your shoulder a small nudge as he sat down next to you. “I’ve got chocolate, movies, oh a small flower for you to remind you how much I love you,” Aaron pulled out a small fake rose, “So, just like our love, it will never die,” You both let out a small laugh. “I’ve got some pictures Jack drew you for when you were feeling sad,”

You felt tears collect in the corner of your eyes, “When did you do all of this?”

“When you told me you had depression,” Aaron said with a small shrug, “Could I interest you-” Aaron cut himself off, searching the box for a moment before pulling out a packet of cookies, “In some cookies?”

“You most definitely can,” You replied, grinning as Aaron handed you a packet before taking another out for himself. “But please tell me they haven’t been there the entire time?”

“What? Gross, no,” Aaron said with a laugh, “I got them on the way home, I had a hunch,”

“You have very good instincts,” You said, biting into a cookie.

“So I’ve been told,” Aaron agreed, “Now, how about we watch...” Aaron fumbled around with the box for a moment, “Knives Out and try and solve the murder before they do?”
