Fiat Lingua Top 10 for 2023
It's time for the annual Fiat Lingua rewind!
Background: I created Fiat Lingua over ten years ago with the idea that it could be something like the Rutgers Optimality Archive: A place where conlangers could post work that they wanted to showcase, or work that was in progress. We've had tons of contributions over the years, and some standout work I'm really proud of.
Using our fancy statistics program (you know, the free version) we're able to determine the top 10 visited posts for this year (though, note, the numbers for the current year's December post will always be down a little bit, since it didn't have a full month. If you'd like to take a look at it, Carsten Becker did a version of "Silent Night" in his conlang Ayeri!). Here they are!
NUMBER 10
"Road Trip Conlanging with Kids" (August, 2023) by Mia DeSanzo: Fiat Lingua is supposed to be an archive of long, detailed conlang articles, and also short, breezy conlang ideas, and this is one of the latter! It's less than a page long, but a fun idea, and it was quite well-received!
NUMBER 9
"Art & Anxiety: Conlanging through impostor syndrome" (February, 2023) by Jessie Sams (now Jessie Peterson): This is a personal reflection by @quothalinguist on how she has dealt with impostor syndrome, and how it's impacted her conlanging.
NUMBER 8
"Taadži Linguistics" (March, 2023) by Lauren Kuffler: This is a wonderful introduction to the Taadži language, which features a writing system reminiscent of Mayan epigraphs.
NUMBER 7
"Tone for Conlangers: A Basic Introduction" (April, 2018) by Aidan Aannestad: Making a second consecutive appearance in the top ten, Aidan Aannestad's introduction to tone has been an invaluable resource for conlangers producing tonal conlangs for just over five years now!
NUMBER 6
"Afrihili: An African Interlanguage" (April, 2014) by William S. Annis: Afrihili is an a posteriori auxlang from the late 60s that uses Bantu languages as its source, and it is fascinating! One of my all-time favorite auxlangs, and William provides a wonderful introduction. Of interest, this article was number 6 in the top ten last year, as well!
NUMBER 5
"Names Aren’t Neutral: David J. Peterson on Creating a Fantasy Language" (March, 2019) by David J. Peterson: Up four spots from last year, this is my article on best practices when coming up with names in a fantasy setting—even when no conlang is present.
NUMBER 4
"Grambank & Language Documentation: Zhwadi and Its Features" (June, 2023) by Jessie Sams (now Jessie Peterson): The first of the game-changing mega-resources for conlanging Jessie created in 2023, this is a short description of how to use Grambank in conlanging with a link to a fillable Google spreadsheet any conlanger can copy and use to introduce their conlang to others.
NUMBER 3
"Patterns of Allophony" (April, 2015) by William S. Annis: Definitely one of the most popular papers on Fiat Lingua, William illustrates graphically a number of very common sound changes. This article once again occupies the third spot of our top ten!
NUMBER 2
"A Conlanger's Thesaurus" (September, 2014) by William S. Annis: We have a new number 1 for this year! This has, historically, been the most accessed article on Fiat Lingua, and it's obvious to see why. The article is relatively short, compared to the information and use you can get out of it. William Annis details ways in which languages relate words to other similar words. For conlangers who struggle either with coming up with words that are different from English in meaning, or who struggle with coming up with words at all, this reference article should prove very useful. Using the word maps in this article, you might be able to come up with words you never dreamt of before, but words which could exist in some language. A great resource for conlangers who are desperately trying to break out of the influence of their L1 or L2!
And now for the top viewed article for 2023 on Fiat Lingua...
NUMBER 1
"A Surreal Conlang" (January, 2023) by David J. Peterson: Quite the surprise! Late 2022 I wrote an article about how one might go about creating a surreal conlang—neither naturalistic nor regular and artificial like an auxlang or engelang—and it went up on Fiat Lingua on January 1st. I think (or hope) it served as a useful jumping off point for conlangers who are looking to try something really different from what they've seen done elsewhere.
* * * * *
And that's it for 2023! I'm looking forward to posting more conlang articles next year. If you are a conlanger, a conlang-researcher, or conlang fan who has something to say in .pdf format about a specific conlang or conlanging in general, please consider submitting something to Fiat Lingua! We take any and all articles related to conlanging in whatever form you have them. I'm also happy to help you think up ideas, or refine those ideas you have. There is no strong review like in a fancy journal: I just want to get what you have up. I'm especially in interested in hosting personal conlang stories—stories about how or why you started to create a language, or your experience creating your own language—personal stories that are often lost, but are so vital, as there is an absolute dearth of literature about conlangers! If you think you have even the seed of an idea, please get a hold of me! I want to share as many stories and ideas as I can.

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK 2023 | March 8th – 15th 2023
[alternatively: a week and one day to talk about and make things for women you appreciate in celebration of International Women’s Day] Inspired by @evansbrewster that’s no longer on Tumblr.com.
@kdramaladies will be hosting the event as well. I’ll reblog where I can and try to be present. Prompts courtesy of @dramaheroine who has dont 99.9999% of getting this week to happen, prompts and more, thanks so much. Gifs courtesy of @cuddlybitch, @haeyeongs and @orangesyellow. Thank you all so so much. Thank you to everyone that checks in about this when I am sure I’ll be sitting it out. KWW has been happening for eight years, this being the ninth which is nuts.
Please tag your posts #kdramawomensweek and/or @undergroundkdrama so they are easier to find, admire, and reblog.
Day 1: In Her Head
Women with rich inner worlds, full of hidden thoughts, desires and fantasies. Are her thoughts being revealed to the viewers in visually exciting ways? Think dream sequences, a touch of magical realism, voiceovers, a cut to a talking head or perhaps weird little animated cells…
Day 2: “It” Girl
2021 was all about Haves and Haves Not x2000. 2022 was the year of women in the legal profession. Tell us which of the characters fitting this year’s trend you have enjoyed the most and why. What made them better than the rest? Or what else do you think has been a popular theme/genre/topic for 2022 dramas? How did women fit into the equation? Here are a few examples: gangsters, “behind the scenes”, school violence, countryside living etc.
Day 3: The Help
Women holding everything together in the background, women who have to do all the dirty work, who do thankless labour regardless of the setting or time period. Servants, secretaries, domestic staff, cleaners, nurses, nannies, care workers, housewives…Let’s put some time aside to ‘celebrate those who don’t celebrate’ because they are too busy keeping things running.
Day 4: Bad Girls Club
Everyone loves an angst filled, angry revenge drama so lets talk about the women who seek revenge? Women who hold grudges and whose hearts are filled with rage. Women who hurt others (knowingly and unknowingly). Women who seek power over others and/or themselves in cruel ways. A day for celebrating women’s wrongs.
Day 5: Recommend Her!
Choose your fave – give us a Top 10 that you think she’d make e.g. Spotify Wrapped, her 2023 reading list, her watchlist. Personally, I think that Lee Yeo Reum from Summer Strike listens to a playlist like this (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3yrqVOEnwQG4z8czX8qD4k?si=36e45bbaeaad4892) as she walks around the village trying to make sense of who she is and what she wants. Today’s a day for projecting and recommending. Sneak your recs in here.
Day 6: Funny Girl Woman
We know women are funny, here’s your time to show love to the actresses who predominately act in comedies, female characters who you find hilarious and actresses who provide the perfect comedic relief every time they pop up onscreen.
Day 7: Lee Yoon Jung/Noh Hee Kyung OR Surprise!
Two pioneering women behind many of our classic favourite dramas. Think of this as a space for tributes to them, what you love about their dramas, Lee Yoon Jung’s direction, Noh Hee Kyung’s writing, your favourite female characters from their dramas… OR Your favourite cameos by actresses! Who used their tiny bit of screen time in the best way possible?!
Day 8: Timeslip
What if time travel really existed? What if two female characters from different dramas, from different tv eras could meet? How are they connected? Why should they meet? Think of this as an opportunity for you to travel back in time.
Please also feel free to be inspired by the prompts from previous years (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2020 Part Deux, 2021, 2022).
#kdramaedit#kdramasource#userdramas#asiandramanet#asiandramasource#kdrama women's week#kdramawomensweek#and I am very thankful always for everyone that participates#i hope you're all doing well and live isn't kicking your ass too hard#and that you're giving yourself the grace that you'll be giving these characters this week!#bc that's what it's all about and all that mushy stuff#thank you thank you <3#this will always mean something to me even though i am a flake and i don't have the strength or time and sometimes even the energy or will#thanks again to dramaheroine#truly a heroine#thank you

IT’S LIT: Celebrating Travis Scott’s 33rd Birthday With All Of His Top 10 Billboard 100 Hits
Written byDavonta Herring

One of the biggest artists and popular culture figures of this generation turned 33 today. Click inside to celebrate his legacy with a gallery of all of his Top 10 hits!
Jacques Bermon Webster II was born in Houston, Texas. Webster lived with his grandmother in South Park, Houston from ages one through six. He then moved to Missouri City to live with his parents. Due to the fact that Webster’s father is a soul musician and his grandfather was a jazz composer, music was already embedded in him. While attending Elkins High School, which he graduated from at 17, he participated in musical theater. During his second year at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Webster dropped out to fully pursue his music career.
One he left college, Scott moved to New York City. He slept on his friend’s floor and spent most of his time at Just Blaze’s studio. Unfortunately for him, progress didn’t come fast enough. He moved to Los Angeles after only living in NYC for four months. After falling on tough times in LA, Scott moved back to Houston but was eventually kicked out of his parent’s home. When he moved back to Los Angeles, he began to sleep on the couch of a friend who studied at University of Southern California. Around the time, Grand Hustle Records rapper and owner T.I. heard one of Scott’s productions. One of T.I.’s representatives invited Scott to a studio for a meeting. During the meeting, T.I. rapped over one of Scott’s productions, laying the groundwork for Scott to sign with Grand Hustle.
After several delays, Scott’s first solo full-length project, Owl Pharoah was released on May 21st, 2013. The following year, he released Days Before Rodeo, his second mixtape and the prelude to his debut studio album Rodeo. The highly-anticipated album was released on September 4th, 2015. It debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart and catapulted him to a household name. Since then, Travis has released three more solo albums (Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, Astroworld, Utopia) with all three reaching number one of the US Billboard 200, a collaborative album (Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho) with Quavo and a compilation album (Jackboys) with the rappers signed to Scott’s Cactus Jack imprint.
Cactus Jack Records, which was founded in 2017, is just another venture Travis has dived into. He started the annual music festival Astroworld in 2018. Over the years, Scott has collaborated with countless clothing and sneaker brands including Been Trill, Diamond Supply Co., A Bathing Ape, Nike, Helmut Lang and Jordan, just to name a few. The ‘Pick Up The Phone’ artist has teamed up with the likes of Fortnite, McDonald’s and even PlayStation to promote special merchandise, meals and so many other things. He made his theatrical in the 2021 film Gully. Later in the year, he signed a movie production deal with A24.
Travis Scott has left an undeniable mark on this generation. Although he is involved in so many things, the world initially came to love him based on his music prowess. To celebrate his legacy and his birthday, check out our gallery of all of his Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits. HAPPY 33RD TRAVIS!

god it just fucking blows my mind how minecraft just exists.
Like, this is a $25 game with more personal customization options than any other I've seen, complete freedom to adjust it in any way you want, has completely mastered procedural generation, so much so that every single time you open the game you will have a completely unique experience. It still has an active developer base after over 10 years, and is still regularly receiving updates not only for bug-fixes but tons of new content, completely for free. There is no paid DLC, no exclusive content, you just get everything for one fucking price.
And each little aspect is so lovingly crafted that these completely procedurally generated worlds can feel like there was intent to it, like there is a story to this world, because every single aspect of the game fits neatly together like a perfect puzzle. There is care and detail put into every item, and the developers show us their progress along the way to make sure that we agree that it works. Anyone can be a beta tester if they choose--it's open to anyone, you just have to download the (again, free if you already own the game) snapshots.
And the multiplayer is more versatile than almost any other game out there. You can have a private little world with just you and a few close friends, you can have a server with 20 friends, or you can join entire MMO-style servers and interact with thousands of people in hundreds of different possible servers, each with minigames and tools that aren't even possible in the main game. Commands and creative tools allow server owners to literally make their own games as if this were a game engine.
And then.. we get to mods.
The minecraft developers are incredibly open about the game's code. It's not entirely open source, but several libraries of it are, allowing for people to get into the code and see how it works and mess around with it. I mean, just look at this official blog post from 2018 where they basically encourage plagiarism- (/hj)
[ID: A screenshot of text reading, "The plan is to open up different libraries gradually. These libraries are open source and MIT licensed, which means that 'basically, anyone can go in there and they can contribute and they can help improve our game engine,' Nathan explains. 'Or, if they're making their own game, they don't have to rewrite these little parts. They can just use ours, which have been tried and tested because we're a very popular game, apparently!'" End ID.]
This allows anyone who knows Java, one of the most accessible coding languages, (or C++, if you're a little more skilled and/or prefer Bedrock edition) to get their hands into the code and add whatever the hell they want. Just on CurseForge alone there's over 40,000 mods, with more being added every day--not to mention the various other websites that you can post minecraft mods on. These people add so much content for the game that it feels like there's multiple additional games stacked on top. Just look at some of my personal favourite mods:
Blue Skies is one that adds two entire new dimensions to the game, with plenty of incredibly unique biomes and (currently) 2 bosses each. There's also an incredibly clever system that encourages you to get the new tools and weapons of the mod without taking away any progress in the other dimensions, allowing you to jump into the mod and experience the progression of it naturally no matter how long you've been playing already. The Twilight Forest adds a dimension with a complete dungeon progression quest, with (currently) eight unique bosses and dungeons--not to mention plenty of other mini-dungeons and structures scattered around the world. Create adds tons of new machines and trinkets to mess around with, perfect for anyone who likes redstone or factory-building type stuff. And mods like Quark or Supplementaries add hundreds of mini features to add a little bit more life to the world, little QoL improvements, and new unique tools for very specific tasks!
And all this? It's just.. free?? People just make this, and post it online, and--apart from anyone who chooses to donate to the developers' patreons/kofis/etc--you can just download them and play them whenever you want.
What the hell.
You wanna know why Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time?
I mean, just look at it.
#i have never googled so many things for an infodump before#i was just gonna ramble but then i was like 'wait if i'm gonna talk about how cool this game is i gotta be accurate about it'#anyway have a partial analysis of why this game has become a permanent fixture in my brain#this fucking GAME is my blorbo. i love it so fucking much

Soooo I was looking through my drafts because there's posts in there years old, and I found this old fanfiction question list that my dear friend @thuriweaver tagged me in two years ago and I thought what the heck, I'll fill that out tonight because I've been trying to work on writing more lately. So, without further ado...
1.How many works do you have on AO3?
95!
Though I've written more, there are things on @ironwhumper359 and @ironwoman359-writes that aren't fandom related and are only on tumblr, and there's probably some other things on my masterlist that aren't on AO3 either, maybe I ought to comb through it at some point and upload more!
2. What is your total AO3 word count?
333,493! And fun fact, I just counted that up manually from all 95 fics because I thought AO3 didn't display that stat, but it turns out I just wasn't logged in. The stat page says I actually has 335,438 words, so either I missed a fic or it includes the author's notes or summaries in that count.
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
If you look at the fandom list it has 10, but I think 5 is a more accurate count, which I'll explain in a sec. These are the fandoms on AO3:
Sanders Sides (Web Series) (87)
Super Mario & Related Fandoms (3)
Marvel Cinematic Universe (3)
Undertale (Video Game) (3)
Leverage (2)
Video Blogging RPF (2)
Who Killed Markiplier? (Web Series) (1)
In Space With Markiplier (Web Series) (1)
Six of Crows Series - Leigh Bardugo (1)
Markiplier TV (Web Series) (1)
The thing is, the two fics in the "video blogging" fandom are markiplier ego fics and I'd lump those, Who Killed Markiplier, In Space With Markiplier, and Markiplier TV all as one fandom, and also, all the Super Mario fics and MCU fics are actually both Sanders Sides AUs, so those aren't really separate fandoms either.
A better list would be:
Sanders Sides
Markiplier
Undertale
Leverage
Six of Crows
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
So this was fascinating to look at! I'm going to list them in reverse order, for the Drama.
5: How to Catch a Fairy, posted on June 16th, 2020 with 2,918 hits and 515 kudos. This is a very short little oneshot, filling a prompt from a Bad Things Happen Bingo card, "Used as Bait." I really enjoyed writing this one, but I'm surprised it's beat out so many of my other, older fics. It has almost 100 more kudos than Our Own Villain, the (admittedly incomplete) fic that is my 6th biggest in kudos and kind of put me on the map in the TSS fandom. I guess people really like fae, feral protective love interests, and analogical.
4: Phase One, originally posted on September 11th, 2020, with 3,575 hits and 532 kudos. Now this is far less surprising, the Marvel AU is one of my most popular stories, with an entire sideblog dedicated to developing it, and it is by far the story I am most asked about continuing. The story is told partly through in universe S.H.I.E.L.D. documents and internal communications, questions on @ask-agent-sanders, and traditionally posted stories. Phase One is the AO3 name for the traditional story portion of the universe, each chapter being an entry in the story. The plan was, eventually, to create a fic called Phase Two for stories taking place post-Avengers (2012) content, but I haven't updated the fic in nearly 2 years.
3: A Part of the FamILY, originally posted on May 9th, 2018, with 5,326 hits and 696 kudos. According to the author's notes, I originally wrote the fic in February of 2018 to celebrate 1,000 tumblr followers, so it makes sense that it would have a lot of kudos. It also leans HEAVILY on a lot of tropes that the TSS fandom was really into at the time, and even has song lyrics in it with links to said songs on spotify. I stand by the quality of the actual story and writing on display here, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that those aspects make me cringe just a bit today 😅
2: A Fiendly Reunion, originally posted on July 7th, 2019, with 7,621 hits and 766 kudos. This story is one of my proudest achievements, both in the TSS fandom and as a writer in general. At 30,000+ words over 10 chapters, it is the longest single fic I've ever posted, and the only multichapter fic over 4 chapters that I've ever completed, outside a Big Bang challenge I did in 2018. It took over a year to write, and was a huge passion project for me. I'm really, really happy that it's at the number two spot, and that my readers loved it as much as I did. I'd honestly be surprised that it wasn't at the number one spot, if it weren't for what IS at the number one spot...
1: Broken Wings, originally posted on September 9th, 2018 with 7,747 hits and 1,159 kudos. This fic is the most popular thing I've ever posted on AO3, and it's tumblr cross-post has over 1,000 notes, which is a lot for a fanfiction on this site. Why? It's short, at just under two thousand words, it's angsty and it's fluffy, it has protective-and-self-sacrificing Virgil, protective light sides, vague and abusive dark sides (this was 2018, ok, the fandom was a very different place then), it has wings, and to top it all off it was actually based on fanart, this amazing workby @asofterfan who came up with all the wing designs and potential dynamics that the winged sides would have, I just took their vision and translated it to words. I kind of love that my most popular work is actually something that's collaborative in nature, I think it says something about the way fandom comes together as a community <3.
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do! I used to not as often because I felt awkward, and I'm not gonna lie, I still do sometimes, but these days I try to respond when possible, because I really, really appreciate comments! They're absolutely everything as a creative.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I'm not really into angsty endings, very rarely do I leave something unhappy on purpose. Sometimes I start out with something unhappy, only to later go and add more fic to give it a happier ending. I'm Left in the Dark originally was a short prompt fill, chapter 1, but then I went back and wrote chapters 2 and 3 to resolve the plot.
All that to say, I think the angstiest ending out there is actually the ending of an instant of great white gravity, which is the first installment in a series I hope to write more for that I'm calling Before and After, though I haven't made it a series on AO3 yet. By it's very nature of being a prequel to the events of Who Killed Markiplier, the whole thing has big 'doomed by the narrative' energy, and even though not every fic will necessarily have a melancholy tone, great white gravity does, because it's about Will being too late to ask Celine out and having to live with watching her marry Mark instead, and about Damien watching the friend group he used to be able to count on be irrecoverably changed by this tension. Goooood angst, right there!
7. Do you ever write crossovers?
I do! Or, I've written one, at least. The Marvel AU isn't a recasting like most of my other AUs based on existing stories, the Marvel characters also exist and are in the story.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I don't believe so, no! I've been very fortunate in that regard, the little hate I have received over the years has all been in my askbox directly, never in the comments of a fic that I can recall.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope! Sex-repulsed asexual over here, but y'all have fun in your corner of the internet!
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
To my knowledge/recollection, no, but I do know that someone reposted one of my fics on Wattpad once. They credited me as the author though, so I didn't ask them to take it down, but in general, I don't like it when people do that.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Until the Sun Rises, a walking dead style zombie AU, is a collab with @buzz-by-bee, aka @a-valourous-choice, author of the To Build a Home series! We haven't updated it in a long time (oops) but it has a sideblog over on @until-the-sun-rises that has some pretty sweet fanart as well as all the content if you're interested!
You Don't Own Me (You Don't Even Know Me) also started out as a collab with @5-falsehoods-phonated, aka RoseyWinter on AO3, but he has since left the project and left me to finish our plan on my own (which I keep saying that I'll do and then not doing, whoops).
Also, I swear I've written a fic with @theinvisiblespoon, but maybe I'm just thinking of the hours we used to spend rp-ing and all the times we've talked about writing a more structured story together and then just never doing it (have you spotted the theme yet?)
12. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Oh gosh, that's so hard. Even back when I only wrote for One fandom I was a multishipper, and now I'm shipping in other fandoms? Too many good choices, how dare you make me choose. If I have to limit it to 5 all time favorites though... Analogical, Moxiety, LAMP, Kanej, and the Leverage OT3.
13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Undertale! if you go waaay back on my AO3...or, you know, just click on the Undertale fandom link there, you can see the few works that I put out: a series of prompts for Cheer Up the Skeleton Week, an event focusing on depicting Sans as Happy for once, an OC self insert story that I quickly abandoned after a few chapters, and Your Fault, a piece about the multiverse breaking down that I'm still actually pretty proud of, all things considered.
14. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
Oof, that may be the hardest yet. A Fiendly Reunion, because I actually finished it? A Sanders Carol, because it was my first ever Big Bang, and my first ever completed multi-chapter fic? The Secret History of the Invincible II, because it's new and exciting? They're Only Children because I have so many ideas for it? I honestly couldn't tell you. I love all of them, they're all very dear to me.
15. BONUS QUESTION: Do you have a WIP that haunts you?
Dude, all of them. If I've filtered things correctly on AO3, then of the 24 works in progress that I've started, only 9 are actually complete. That's 15 unfinished stories floating around in my mind, and I know it's actually at least 17, because there are two that show up as completed because I'm doing multiple single works in a series instead of chapters in a single work, so they look complete right now but I know that they're not, plus there's a few that never have been posted to begin with. SO many unfinished stories.
But the one that haunts me the most has to be Our Own Villain, because it is quite possibly my oldest wip, over 5 years old at this point, and it's still not finished but I want it to be so badly. Other wips I've kind of made peace with potentially not continuing, but I swear to god, OOV has to finish before I die, even if Sanders Sides as a show has changed so much since January of 2018 when I first had the idea that the whole premise is now fundamentally flawed, I just have to finish. It's my fanfiction white whale.
---
This was fun! If you've never read any of my work before (tho let's be real, if you made it this far you probably have), I do have a masterlist pinned right at the top of this blog that you can check out. Most of this post was sanders sides because it's what I've written the most of, but I'm actually focusing more on some in space with markiplier and six of crows stuff fic wise, as well as my own original writing. Thanks for reading, I'm not going to tag anyone specific since this challenge is so old. Any writer who sees this and wants to do it, go for it!

Sineád O’Connor, the troubled Irish singer and activist who scored a global smash with Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” in 1990 and was banned from Saturday Night Live for tearing up a photo of Pope John Paul II during her performance two years later, has died at 56, according to a statement from her family provided to Irish TV and radio broadcaster RTÉ. No details on the cause, date or place of her death were given.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” the statement reads. “Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
O’Connor was hospitalized in January 2022 after posting a series of disturbing, soon-deleted tweets in the wake of the suicide of her teenage son, Shane, that month. Her tweets hinted at suicidal thoughts. Shane O’Connor, 17, was found dead two days after he went missing from a treatment facility in Dublin.
She posted this tweet on July 17:
Sineád O’Connor, who changed her name to Shuhada’ Sadaqat after converting to Islam in 2018 and was known for her closely cropped hair, was one of Ireland’s rising stars by age 20. She shot to fame with her haunting cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which Prince wrote and recorded for his side project The Family. Her single hit No. 1 more than 20 countries — becoming the No. 1 single worldwide that year — and spent four weeks atop the Billboard 200 in 1990. The song’s was nominated for three Grammys including Record of the Year, and its stark video won three MTV VMAs including Video of the Year.
“Nothing Compares 2 U” was culled from her second album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, which was No. 1 in the U.S. for six weeks and has gone double platinum. It won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance.
Despite the commercial juggernauts that were the single and album, O’Connor struggled to follow their success. She had only one minor hit in the U.S. after “Nothing Compares 2 U” and only a spotty chart history around the world despite releasing eight more studio albums. Her 1992 follow-up, Am I Not Your Girl?, reached the U.S. Top 10, and 1994’s Universal Mother hit No. 19, but neither would spawn a hit single. Her most recent was I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss in 2014.
Born on December 8, 1966, in Dublin, O’Connor courted controversy throughout her career. As the musical guest on Saturday Night Live in 1992, she sang a cover of Bob Marley’s “War” that shifted its lyrical focus to child abuse by the Catholic Church. When the song ended, O’Connor produced a photo of the popular Pope John Paul II and ripped it in half.
Reaction was swift in the pre-social media world, and the singer was banned from SNL permanently.
O’Connor is the subject of Nothing Compares, a feature documentary that had its world premiere at Sundance in 2022 and later aired on Showtime. Here is the logline of director Kathryn Ferguson’s film: The story of O’Connor’s phenomenal rise to worldwide fame and subsequent exile from the pop mainstream. Focusing on her prophetic words and deeds from 1987-93, the film reflects on the legacy of this fearless trailblazer through a contemporary feminist lens.
In an interview in the documentary, O’Connor revealed the abusive upbringing that left her feeling betrayed by both church and community and ultimately led her to find the therapeutic power of music.
She received the inaugural award for Classic Irish Album for I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got at the RTÉ Choice Music Awards in March.
O’Connor’s autobiography, Rememberings, was published in 2021 by Dey Street Books.

Tucker Carlson in Fort Worth to troll establishment, who will be ‘losing their minds’
Conservative firebrand Tucker Carlson will be in Fort Worth as one of the stops in a 15-city arena tour this fall where he will interview a guest at each town.
Each stop on his tour is sure to troll those with opposing viewpoints, but he will be praised by the political warriors that have hung on his every word while a commentator on Fox News and after his ignominious exit from the conservative network.
“I can’t wait to take our show on the road in cities across America,” Carslon said in a press release. “We’re going to be talking about real issues with real people. You’d better believe the establishment will be losing their minds.”
Carlson’s Fort Worth interview subject is comedian, actor and political provocateur Roseanne Barr.
The former Fox News host is embarking on a national tour this fall and is appearing at Dickies Arena on Sept. 24.
Tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. Friday. Tickets can also be purchased early from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m. Thursday by using the unlock code, DICKIES.
Carlson is going on tour this fall to react and discuss the latest news from the upcoming presidential election. He will be joined by a special guest at each of the scheduled 15 shows.
Carlson’s guests in other cities include Russell Brand (Phoenix, Sept. 4), Megyn Kelly (Sept. 12, Kansas City), Alex Jones (Sept. 16, Milwaukee), Roseanne Barr (Sept. 24, Fort Worth) and Donald Trump Jr. (Sept. 28, Jacksonville).
Carlson began his cable news career at CNN in 2000 and later joined Fox News in 2009.
His show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” was among the most popular for the network during its run from 2016 to 2023.
Last year, Carlson and Fox News parted ways less than a week after settling a lawsuit over the network’s 2020 election reporting.
Just a few months ago in March, Carlson spoke at a Tarrant County Republican Party event with sheriff Bill Waybourn, Rep. Tony Tinderholt, Rep. Nate Schatzline and county judge Tim O’Hare.
Roeanne Barr is no stranger to controversy
Barr, who is joining Carlson in Fort Worth, is no stranger to controversy — the BBC even compiled the comedian’s top five most deplorable moments.
It includes the incident over three decades ago at a professional baseball game in San Diego where she butchered The Star-Spangled Banner to vociferous boos.
Barr then responded by grabbing her groin then spat.
“Disgraceful,” then-President George H.W. Bush said.
In 2018, ABC abruptly pulled the plug on the actor and comedian’s show, “Roseanne,” after she posted a racist message on Twitter, now called X, about one of President Barack Obama’s most influential aids, Valerie Jarrett.
Barr wrote if the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
She later apologized, but it was too late.

1.) Enkei NT03+M Wheel 18×9.5 5X108 40mm Silver
Owner: @thatfordfocusst Check out this Focus ST for some awesome content!
NT03+M is designed with a perimeter brace ring that enhances the wheel strength so it’s able to resist deformation or distortion from outer forces, resulting in highly accurate steering response and strength. The NT03+M also features a racing twin valve design which allows for accurate monitoring while adjusting the pressure.
MAT PROCESS: Shaping by the MAT process reduces wheel weight by 10%-15%. Every pound of unsprung weight savings has the effect of reducing overall vehicle weight by 20lbs.
MAT Technology Enkei developed a new manufacturing process to produce the next aluminum wheel generation. The Most Advanced Technology (M.A.T) combines one-piece cast wheel technology with a rim forming technology called spinning process. Using this new technology of casting and rim forming by M.A.T process, is critical to improve drastically the material property and strength of the wheels. Rim-Rolled technology shapes the rim to improve material elongation without sacrificing the wheels hardness.
SPEC-E All Enkei wheels are engineered to pass rigorous testing. In fact, Enkei established its own test standard called “Spec-E,” which is tougher than JWL requirements. Enkei’s Spec-E test setting requires a higher drop point in the impact test and 20% more cycles for the rotary bending fatigue and dynamic radial fatigue tests than JWL standards. The Spec-E represents Enkei’s confidence in its technology and quality of Enkei wheels.

3.) Mishimoto Silver Thermostatic Oil Cooler Kit Ford Focus ST 2013-2018
After a few laps on the track or some aggressive street driving, turbocharged 4 cylinder engines like the 2.0L EcoBoost in the Focus ST are known to overheat oil quickly. Even with the stock liquid to liquid heat exchanger, the EcoBoost can still run hot and risk overheating the engine’s coolant. Aggressive tunes paired with some track miles can significantly overheat your oil and wear down your engine. Leave it to Mishimoto to come up with an oil cooling solution for your Focus ST!
The Mishimoto engineers started with a large 19-row oil cooler and mounted it in the front of the vehicle where it receives the most airflow. The oil cooler was mounted on the passenger side as to not interfere with some aftermarket air intake systems. Application-specific braided stainless steel lines transfer the oil from the cooler to the engine and feature -10AN fittings for an easy installation. Mishimoto engineers saw consistent temperature decreases of over 30°F (16.7°C) using our non-thermostatic sandwich plate. This proved that our oil cooler kit can withstand the stress of the most extreme applications.
This oil cooler kit is available with either a Stealth Black or Sleek Silver cooler and your choice of the Mishimoto Oil Sandwich Plate or the Mishimoto Thermostatic Oil Sandwich Plate. As with all our products, this kit includes the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.
Please note: Mishimoto fully inspects and cleans all products prior to packaging. However, it is recommended that customers flush the oil cooler with one quart of clean oil prior to installation to remove any debris accumulated during shipping. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

5.) VR Tuned ECU Flash Tune Ford Focus ST 2.0L EcoBoost
The Ford Focus ST ECU Tune is done by VR Tuned is one of the best upgrades you can do. The cars 2.0L turbo is already a load of fun to drive. With our new ECU calibration, you are able to gain improved performance with increases in horsepower and torque. The biggest difference when you flash your car is the overall drivability improvement. Your car will have much better throttle response throughout the gears. Where your car is sluggish off the line, huge gains of torque come in giving you a vast improvement of your 0-60mph time. Depending on mods, the midrange can increase through the curve and the top end pulls harder to redline.
Crank Horsepower Ratings:
Stock Power: 250hp | 266ft/lbs
Tuned Power: 278hp | 341ft/lbs
ECU Flash Options:
Vmax Off – This is an increase or reduction of the maximum speed limit.
Race Exhaust – This option is for those running full race exhaust systems.
Pops & Bangs – Pops and bangs (burble tune) is the result of an ignition delay which creates an exhaust detonation when the throttle pedal is released. Caution, this process must only be used on vehicles with a full race exhaust. This may affect long term engine reliability.
Cold Start Off – Disables the cold start system.
DTC OFF – This option is to delete Trouble Code (DTC) related to the engine. You provide us the code.
Some options are not available for different software version of the vehicle. We cannot know this until the factory ECU read is uploaded. If a feature is not available that is extra, we will refund you that amount. We do guarantee to provide you with the best possible performance tune.
6.) Whiteline Grip Series Stage 1 Kit Ford Focus | Focus ST 2012-2018

Ford Focus ST 2012-2018
7.) GFB DVX Diverter Valve Ford Focus ST
GFB’s DVX takes the extremely popular DV+ Diverter Valve and adds dual venting outlets along with our patented Venting Bias Adjustment System. So not only do you get IMPROVED BOOST HOLDING and THROTTLE RESPONSE, you have total control over your BLOW-OFF SOUND VOLUME!
WHAT MAKES DVX DIFFERENT TO ANY OTHER VALVE THAT GOES “WHOOSH”?
The DVX is not just a noise maker (like BOV spacers) – by modifying the valve operation method it offers the same PERFORMANCE BENEFITS that the DV+ does.
It retains ECU CONTROL for the fastest possible operation.
No other blow off valve has the advantage of GFB’s Venting Bias Adjustment, allowing you to alter the blow off sound simply by moving the adjustment lever.
Built to last.
GFB’s DV+ design solves the longevity and boost leaking issues that are common with factory diverter valves, and also changes the operation method to “pilot actuation” to ensure better performance on stock or modified engines.
Furthermore, these benefits won’t cost you the Earth! Rather than throwing the entire factory diverter valve system in the trash (like other manufacturer’s “solutions”), the DV+ keeps what works, and replaces what doesn’t.
WHAT DOES IT FIT?
The T9654 is a duel venting direct factory replacement for the pneumatic diaphragm type BPV (Bypass Valve) used on Ford, Volvo, Porsche, & Borg Warner Turbos
WHY NOT JUST USE A SPACER?
There are many “BOV spacers” on the market that make noise. However, they do this simply by using the factory diverter valve and redirecting the air to atmosphere. Therefore, the performance deficiencies of the factory diverter valve design remain, and furthermore, the flow capacity of the factory diverter is significantly reduced because of the small venting holes used in these BOV spacers.
ECU VS VACUUM CONTROL
Other BOV kits eliminate the ECU control entirely, using pure manifold vacuum control instead. Whilst there’s nothing particularly wrong with this (that’s how the majority of BOVs work), the ECU control is MUCH FASTER, able to detect and respond to much SMALLER THROTTLE TRANSITIONS and, since it’s available, why wouldn’t you use it?
WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT OUR VENTING BIAS SYSTEM?
GFB’s patented Venting Bias Adjustment System is the only one of its kind in the world. By using an internal rotating sleeve, the opening of both the recirc port and the atmosphere port can be infinitely adjusted. This means that you’re not stuck with a fixed 50/50 or 100% atmosphere venting ratio; you can change it to whatever you want! As an additional benefit, because the atmosphere outlet is a single large port rather than a series of small holes, the venting sound is much DEEPER AND LOUDER than it is with a BOV spacer.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS…
The DVX offers a TRUE PERFORMANCE improvement, INCREASED BOOST-HOLDING ability, and a blow-off sound that is COMPLETELY ADJUSTABLE from factory-silent to ear shattering!

20 Questions for Writers
tagged by: @dilf-in-peril
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
13 plus a fourteenth that's part of an exchange and hasn't been revealed yet.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
25,112
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now it's all wrestling.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow — American Gods (TV); Mad Sweeney/Shadow Moon
Like it Rough — Our Flag Means Death (TV); Israel Hands/Lucius Spriggs (this one isn't very good and I thought I had deleted it until I checked to make this post. only lands here because it's a big fandom i guess)
Poison on Our Lips — Saw (Movies); Adam Faulkner-Stanheight/Lawrence Gordon (this one's been getting a bit extra traffic now with the Saw fandom resurging)
The Lies We Tell Ourselves — Insidious (Movies); Specs/Tucker (this was never finished. it's also been getting some spillover attention from leigh whannell fans)
In the Dead of Night — The Terror (TV 2018); George Henry Hodgson/John Irving
(my most popular wrestling fic, my collected kinktober fills from last year, just barely misses this list)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I should. I try to. I used to. I rarely do.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
eh I usually don't write super angsty endings. I guess the Specs/Tucker one is pretty dreary since I abandoned it at a little cliffhanger.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
excluding orgasms, Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow is my only genuine angst with a happy ending. and it's a pretty cute get-together.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no, my fics aren't popular or controversial enough for that
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep. Usually kinky stuff, and often stuff I myself find sort of weird. Gotta exorcise it i guess.
Funny enough, I used to write a fair bit of smut as a teen, deleted it all and spent years not writing any, and then it's been naught but smut since 2021.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
no, I don't enjoy reading them either.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I'm pretty certain Despite the Snow, etc. was translated into Chinese back when I first posted it but ao3 doesn't show any related works. Maybe it got deleted?
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I'm pretty fickle so I usually just stick to my favs in my current fandom. Right now it's CMJF with Joepunk contesting it for #1. My Stormpilot shipping would rear back up with every new Star Wars release so it was probably my longest-lasting ship.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My Punk/AJ/Ace Steel fill for kinktober was supposed to be part of a longer fic that never got farther into than the very beginning and that extract I posted.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I'm pretty good at showing characters' feelings through action, without much internal monologue. I've been told I balance comedy and smut well which. I don't consider myself a funny person but I do like to lean into the absurdist premises of porn i guess
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Visual description. Partially because I'm bad at it, partially because I think it adds too much fluff and avoid it. Problem is I have a very visual imagination so fics that feel super detailed in my mind end up being 200 words long with no plot, because it's all just mise-en-scène that I can't get on the page.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've never really done it but I tend to enjoy when it's there. It may be cheesy but I love a good pet name in the character's native language.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I dabbled a bit in Phantom of the Opera fic, but really got going in the Hannibal fandom.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
around 2017 I was really trying to make my fics feel ~atmospheric~ and I feel like I achieved that best in Despite the Snow, etc., even if it's partially adapting a scene from the book that never made it to the show (that I know of, I didn't watch past s1). I feel like I'm still plopping around awkwardly in wrestling fic so I really couldn't pick a favourite.
