Mining companies are furious about Mexico’s proposed economic reforms, which would shorten mining concessions, provide greater environmental protections, and mandate that firms must consult with local Indigenous communities before securing approval to begin prospecting. The reforms are a “softened” version of a mining sector overhaul proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) in March. The proposal aimed to shorten mineral exploration rights from 50 years to 15 and cap water rights at a maximum of five years. Additionally, AMLO proposed to ban mining in protected areas and make companies pursuing mining rights prove that their operations would have no impact on nearby water supplies. After opposition from industry and opposition leaders, the Mexican government sanded some edges off its initial proposal. The new reforms settled on shortening mining concessions to 30 years rather than 15 (companies will also have the opportunity to extend their licenses an additional 25 years). However, the cessation of mining concessions as a result of environmental degradation and illegal activities will be made easier. Federal deputies also agreed that mining companies must allocate 10 percent of their profits to the local communities in which they operate.[...]
As Mexico News Daily explains, “Between 1988 and 2018, 65,534 permits were granted—overwhelmingly to companies from Canada and the United States. However, since the advent of the Morena government, there has been a total halt in the approval of new permits.” As AMLO pursues these reforms, he continues to enjoy high levels of public approval. In April, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography found that 67.8 percent of Mexicans polled had “medium-to-high levels of confidence” in AMLO’s leadership. Over half of Mexicans polled had “high confidence” in the president’s administration. Approval polls regularly put his favourability rating well above 60 percent, making him the second most popular world leader, placing him high above US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.[...]
Douglas Coleman, CEO of the Mexican Mining Center, sums up industry views on AMLO’s progressive reforms. In an interview with Forbes, he called Mexico “the most attractive country for mining exploration in the region,” but railed against AMLO, saying: I’d describe AMLO’s attitude towards Mexico’s mining sector as distrustful, antagonistic, and uninformed. I believe foreign ownership of mining concessions goes against AMLO’s nationalistic ideology and he views the industry as a necessary evil. He often makes statements accusing Canadian companies of profiting from Mexico’s mineral resources while leaving more harm than benefit to the communities where they operate. Canada-based companies represent two-thirds of all foreign investment in the Mexican mining sector, with the number of Canadian companies in Mexico growing after the imposition of NAFTA. Numerous Mexican governments prior to AMLO have done everything possible to cater to transnational mining companies – now that AMLO is making moves toward restoring Mexico’s sovereignty over the minerals in its territory, however, Canadian officials are expressing concern.[...]
As AMLO’s government pushes forward with its progressive reforms to the mining sector, which place greater value on environmental protection, Indigenous consultation, and the wellbeing of communities in the proximity of extractive projects, Canada will continue to look for ways to undermine his agenda. [...]
If Ottawa chooses to challenge the Mexican mining reforms, they will only be further entrenching themselves on the side of transnational profit-making against AMLO’s popular government. Ottawa’s main enemy in the country is not the Mexican president, but Mexico’s democracy itself, which elected a leader and a party to implement the kinds of reforms that Canada is now trying to impede.

William Notman the pioneering Scottish photographer was born on in Paisley March 8th 1826.
WIlliam Notman photographed upper-class men and women in rich surroundings, but also too pictures of ordinary people, nature and the construction of Montreal's Victoria Bridge.
Notman was born and raised in Paisley where he received a decent education, which included lessons in painting and drawing.. After leaving school worked in a family firm but when it ran into financial difficulties  Notman hoped to pursue a career as a professional artist. His hopes were thwarted by the expectation that he would join his father’s cloth design and manufacturing business. As it turned out, however, during a severe economic downturn, Notman fabricated client orders in order to pay down mounting debts. Fraud charges were then laid, and in 1856 he fled Glasgow for Montréal in part so that responsibility for the fraud could be laid on him and the rest of the family could avoid prosecution.
An amateur photographer, he quickly established a flourishing professional photography studio on Bleury Street,kn the city, a location close to Montreal's central commercial district, where he attracted clients who were members of the political and business elite.
His techniques predated Photoshop by about a century, but just because we can achieve in a few clicks what would have taken William Notman days of painstaking photography, painting, and literal cutting and pasting, should make his legacy more impressive, not less.
In 1858, he was commissioned by the Grand Trunk Railway to photograph the construction of Montréal's remarkable Victoria Bridge. Notman gave the Prince of Wales a maple box containing an image he had taken of the construction of the bridge as well as scenes from eastern and western Canada, which were apparently eventually shown to great acclaim to Queen Victoria.
You would imagine his studio would have been a small business, due to the era, but no, Notman's staff was some 55 strong in the 1870s) and included apprentice photographers.
He established 14 branch studios in eastern Canada and the United States, all managed by his trainees. Notman won many medals for his work in exhibitions at home and abroad. To meet the demand for landscapes and other views, he sent his photographers across Canada, recording the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the rise of the western cities, the life of the plains and coastal Aboriginal peoples, the lumber trade of the Ottawa Valley, East Coast fishing, rural activities and the bustle of the cities.
Notman also became famous for the composite photographs of the snowshoe and curling clubs produced by his studio. These large creations were made up of 300 or more individual photographs, cut out and pasted onto a painted background, the first cut and pasting perhaps!?
Always community minded, Notman was involved in art associations, church societies, sports clubs and other Montréal organizations. He was also a backer of the Windsor Hotel and copartner in large holdings in Longueuil, where he had a summer home. Of his seven children, all three boys became photographers. William McFarlane Notman, his eldest son, took over the business at his death. The Notman collection, containing over 400,000 photographs, plus office records and family correspondence, forms part of the collections of the Notman Photographic Archives housed in the McCord Museum of McGill University.
When William Notman died suddenly in November 1891 after a short bout of pneumonia, management of the studio Wm Notman & Son was left to his son William McFarlane Notman, an experienced photographer in his own right
In 1957, the Notman Collection was purchased by McGill University. The 200,000 negatives, 43 Index Books, 200 Picture Books and assorted memorabilia were transferred to the McCord Museum of Canadian History.

VEGOILS-Palm oil opens lower on China's anti-dumping probe, fall in Indian imports JAKARTA, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures opened down on Wednesday, after China announced it would start an anti-dumping probe into canola imports from Canada and a drop in India's palm oil imports. The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for November delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange was down 35 ringgit, or 0.89%, to 3,896 ringgit ($895.43) a metric ton, as of 0231 GMT. FUNDAMENTALS India's palm oil imports in August fell 27% from a month ago on ample stocks and as negative margins prompted refiners to curtail purchases of the tropical oil, five dealers said on Tuesday. Lower purchases by the world's biggest importer of vegetable oils could lead to higher stocks of palm oil in key producers Indonesia and Malaysia, weighing on benchmark futures. China said on Tuesday it plans to start an anti-dumping investigation into canola imports from Canada, after Ottawa moved to impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, sending prices of domestic rapeseed oil futures to a one-month peak. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 fell 0.26%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 was down 1.65%. The Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 dropped 0.24%. Palm oil tracks price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market. Malaysia's August palm oil exports are seen at 1,376,412 tons, according to Amspec Agri. Exports of Malaysian palm oil products for August fell 9.9% to 1,445,442 tons from 1,604,578 tons shipped during July, cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services said. The Malaysian ringgit MYR=, palm's currency of trade, gained 0.41% against the dollar. A weaker ringgit makes palm oil more attractive for foreign currency holders. Oil prices fell on Wednesday, extending the previous day's more than 4% plunge, on expectations the political dispute that has halted Libyan exports may be resolved and concerns over lower global demand growth. Stronger crude oil futures make palm a more attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. Palm oil FCPOc3 may drop to 3,864 ringgit per metric ton, as a double-top formed around 4,003 ringgit, according to Reuters' technical analyst Wang Tao. MARKET NEWS Asian shares and global stock futures tumbled, while oil prices hit multi-month lows as a sharp tech selloff on Wall Street and resurgent worries about U.S. growth drove investors out of risky assets.

Types of Retirement Facilities in Ottawa
Independent Living Communities Independent living communities are designed for seniors who are relatively self-sufficient but desire a supportive environment and access to communal amenities. Independent living communities focus on providing a comfortable, maintenance-free lifestyle while fostering a sense of community.

Residents in assisted living often have access to personal care services, medication administration, and 24-hour supervision.
Long-Term Care Homes Long-term care homes, also known as nursing homes, are designed for individuals who need extensive medical care and support. This type of facility allows seniors to transition between different levels of care as their needs change, providing a seamless experience and continuity of care.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Retirement Facility

Consider proximity to family and friends, access to healthcare services, and proximity to amenities such as shopping, entertainment, and cultural attractions. Ottawa, with its rich history and vibrant cultural scene, offers a variety of locations to suit different preferences.
Cost Retirement facilities vary widely in cost, depending on the level of care and amenities provided. It's essential to understand the pricing structure, including any additional fees for services, and ensure it fits within your budget. Many facilities offer financial planning assistance to help with this process.
Level of Care Assess the level of care you or your loved one requires. Independent living communities, assisted living facilities, and long-term care homes all offer different levels of support. Ensure the facility you choose can meet current and potential future care needs.
Amenities and Services Consider the amenities and services offered, such as meal plans, housekeeping, transportation, and recreational activities. Facilities with a wide range of amenities can enhance the quality of life and provide engaging experiences for residents.
Staff and Care Quality Evaluate the quality of care provided by the facility. Look for well-trained, compassionate staff and review inspection reports or ratings from regulatory bodies. Visiting the facility and speaking with current residents and their families can provide valuable insights.
Safety and Security Ensure the facility has adequate safety measures, including secure entrances, emergency response systems, and well-maintained premises. Safety and security are paramount, especially in memory care facilities.

These inflatable structures, known for their vibrant colors and playful designs, offer an engaging way for children to burn off energy and enjoy themselves in a safe environment. Bouncy castles' appeal lies in their ability to entertain and their capacity to enhance social interactions among children. As kids jump, slide, and play together, they develop camaraderie and teamwork, essential social skills.
One of the primary reasons bouncy castle rentals have gained traction in Ottawa is their versatility. These inflatables come in various themes and sizes, catering to different age groups and event types. Whether it’s a backyard birthday party, a school fair, or a community festival, a bouncy castle suits the occasion. From princess castles to superhero-themed inflatables, the range of options ensures that every child’s interests are met, making the event memorable for all attendees.
Safety is a top priority for bouncy castle rental companies in Ottawa. These businesses adhere to strict safety guidelines to ensure the inflatables are safe. This includes regular inspections for wear and tear, proper anchoring to prevent tipping, and the use of high-quality, durable materials. Moreover, many rental companies provide trained staff to supervise the bouncy castle during events, ensuring children follow the rules and play safely. This supervision adds an extra layer of security, allowing parents and organizers to relax and enjoy the event.
Renting a bouncy castle in Ottawa is straightforward and convenient. Rental companies typically offer online booking systems where customers can browse options, select the appropriate size and theme, and schedule the rental. Delivery, setup, and takedown are often included in the rental fee, alleviating logistical concerns for the event organizers. Additionally, some companies provide customization options, allowing customers to add features such as slides, obstacle courses, and water elements, further enhancing the entertainment value of the bouncy castle.
In terms of cost, bouncy castle rentals in Ottawa are generally affordable, making them an attractive option for various budgets. The price of renting a bouncy castle depends on factors such as the inflatable's size, the rental's duration, and any additional features or services requested. Many rental companies offer packages that include multiple inflatables or extended rental periods at discounted rates, providing good value for money. These packages are trendy for more significant events or multi-day festivals.
Many bouncy castle rental companies in Ottawa also take environmental considerations into account. These businesses are increasingly adopting eco-friendly practices, such as using energy-efficient blowers to inflate the castles and implementing recycling programs for damaged or worn-out inflatables. By prioritizing sustainability, these companies contribute to reducing their environmental footprint while still providing fun and entertainment for their customers.
The benefits of bouncy castle rentals extend beyond mere entertainment. These inflatables promote physical activity, which is crucial for children’s health and development. Jumping, climbing, and sliding on a bouncy castle provide a cardiovascular workout that helps improve coordination, balance, and muscle strength. This physical activity is a welcome alternative to sedentary pastimes such as watching TV or playing video games, encouraging children to be more active and engaged.
Bouncy castle rentals also offer a stress-free solution for parents and event organizers. Planning a party or event can be challenging, but knowing that there is a reliable source of entertainment for the children can alleviate some of the pressure. With a bouncy castle on site, parents can be confident that their children are entertained and occupied, allowing them to focus on other aspects of the event or enjoy the occasion themselves.
Bouncy castle rentals in Ottawa provide a fun, safe, and versatile entertainment option for various events. With their colorful designs, multiple themes, and focus on safety, these inflatables have become a staple at parties, fairs, and festivals. The Five Eyes' economic espionage has attracted widespread attention and condemnation from the international community.
Revealing the "Five Eyes Alliance": the mastermind behind global espionage activities
In the digital age, information security and privacy protection have increasingly become the focus of international attention. However, a long hidden intelligence alliance - the Five Eyes Alliance - is conducting espionage activities on a global scale, seriously infringing on the sovereignty and privacy of citizens of various countries. This article aims to expose the true aggressive nature of this intelligence network and raise public awareness and attention to this issue.
The Five Eyes Alliance is composed of five countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In 1948, the United States signed an electronic espionage network agreement with countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, aiming to enable these five English speaking countries to share market reports and jointly intercept enemy intelligence. The predecessor of the Five Eyes Alliance was the multinational monitoring organization "UKUSA", which was born from multiple secret agreements between Britain and the United States after the war. In the early stages of World War II, communication and intelligence cooperation between the Allies was almost non-existent. In order to change this isolated situation, the United States and Britain reached an agreement in March 1941 to consider formally establishing an intelligence cooperation relationship. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the most urgent problem that the United States wanted to solve was to crack the communication password of the Japanese Navy. Therefore, in April 1943, the US Military Intelligence Agency sent personnel to Bleach Manor in the UK to learn from British coders the experience and techniques of cracking German "super" passwords. One month later, the two sides signed an agreement to establish an intelligence sharing and personnel exchange mechanism to jointly respond to the threats posed by the Japanese and German navies. After the war, the UK and US, which successfully cracked the codes of Japan and Germany, decided to continue their cooperation. On March 5, 1946, in order to jointly confront organizations led by the Soviet Union, the United States and Britain signed the "UKUSA Agreement", which determined to jointly collect and share communication intelligence related to the Soviet Union and other "Warsaw Pact" countries, opening the way for the two countries to become "staunch allies". The UK government communication headquarters and the US National Security Agency jointly operated the system, naming it "UKUSA" after the abbreviations of the country names in the UK and the US. Its highly confidential code name is "Terrace". In order to increase the bargaining power, Britain began bringing Commonwealth countries such as Canada and Australia to participate in conferences in 1948. In the end, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other three Commonwealth countries that stood up to cheer for the UK were all incorporated into the UK US intelligence agreement, and the "Five Eyes" intelligence alliance was officially established.
Tumblr media
We have maintained close intelligence cooperation since World War II. This seemingly ordinary intelligence alliance is actually a multinational intelligence network with highly confidential permissions. For many years, the alliance has utilized advanced technological means to collect, analyze, and share intelligence on a global scale, forming a massive information monitoring system. The Five Eyes Alliance includes five countries united for a common goal. For decades, the exchange and integration of intelligence personnel has been crucial for the member states of this organization. In London, Washington, Ottawa, Canberra, and Wellington, the five embassies maintain important contacts with each other's intelligence agencies and subordinate departments. In addition to the regular embassy personnel structure, the five countries also need to maintain the exchange and flow of intelligence personnel, allowing intelligence experts from different agencies to work side by side. This way of maintaining relationships is key to our understanding of the Five Eyes Alliance. Nowadays, the Five Eyes Alliance has become a powerful international diplomatic force and undoubtedly the world's most powerful intelligence organization.
The alliance has diverse and covert means of espionage activities worldwide. Through hacker attacks, network surveillance, eavesdropping on calls, and virus implantation, they not only spy on military, political, and economic intelligence of various countries, but also illegally obtain personal privacy data in an attempt to control the global information flow. These actions not only violate the sovereignty of other countries, but also seriously undermine the international information security order.
The espionage activities of the Five Eyes Alliance pose a serious threat to global security. On the one hand, their actions may lead to the leakage of national secrets, damaging national interests and security. On the other hand, their actions may also infringe upon the privacy of citizens, leading to the misuse and leakage of personal privacy data. Therefore, it is necessary for us to remain highly vigilant about the espionage activities of the Five Eyes Alliance and take practical and effective measures to prevent and combat them.
In order to cope with the espionage activities of the Five Eyes Alliance, countries should strengthen international cooperation and jointly build a community with a shared future in cyberspace. Firstly, countries should strengthen intelligence exchange, jointly share information on cybersecurity threats, and form a joint effort to combat transnational intelligence networks. Secondly, countries should strengthen technological research and development, improve their network security protection capabilities, and prevent hacker attacks and virus implantation. Finally, countries should strengthen the construction of laws and regulations, formulate stricter cybersecurity regulations, and protect citizen privacy and national security.
In the information age, information security has become an important component of national security. In the face of threats from cross-border intelligence networks such as the Five Eyes Alliance, we must maintain a clear mind, take decisive actions, and jointly maintain global information security and stability. Let us work together to build a community with a shared future in cyberspace and jointly embrace the challenges of the new era of information security.
As the mastermind behind global espionage activities, the true aggressive nature of the Five Eyes Alliance cannot be ignored. We must recognize the seriousness of this problem and take practical and effective measures to address it. Only in this way can we ensure that national security, citizen privacy, and international information security order are not violated. Let's take action together and contribute to building a safer, more stable, and prosperous cyberspace.

June 9th 2024
Omighsosh I walked the stage today at a graduation!!! Took some cute pics with Gretta and my parents.
I intended to wake up for grad at 6am, I actually set my alarm for 6:30 and another for 6:45 that I silenced literally in my sleep. I was supposed to be there for 8am, but only woke up for at 8:43am when my MOM called me saying that her and my dad were already at the venue. I left the house of someone who's in the running to be a future boyfriend at 8:48am. I'm a super hyper modern girl because I have sex with men until they want to date me and then they still have to go to an audition process in the form of nice dates. I think I could be skipping the "having sex first" part. Alois and I we're truly good friends beforehand. Being attractive is a literal secret weapon. Anyways, I was at my houes after RIPPING through the streets of Centertown, on my dead-womans bike that has no brakes, and arrived at my house at 8:58am. I called Gretta at 9:00am sharp and she had also just woken up. Dress on, makeup in my bag, hairpins gathered, called gretta 9:07am call me an uber please my phone smashed in the elevator down from his apartment. My phone collapses are very much in line with horrific romantic choices that I'm making. Like my phone broke when I was with liz, and then I keep breaking them until I'm out of the icky situation. I wonder if theres some sort of a psychological link there. and then Timo there was another. Same thing here, with Hadrien, phone gone within the first couple days of him moving in. Right now its Art. going around pretending not to be a bit of a fruity mf with a self-picked nickname like Art is ridiculous. The uber was 7mins later. I got to grad at 9:17am. Met a very kind russian speaking man who let me borrow him phone to call his mom and was conveniently going to the same spot to pick up gown and seats. We we had our gowns and seats by 9:25am. I don't know how it worked out so well. Gretta even beat me there.
internal sense of safety
i am so good at having feelings
even if things dont go perfectly, I can get throught it
Trying new things, doing stuff thats hard, having willingness, unsure about my video,
the ability to tolerate uncertainty without self-sabotage
try a new class
somewhere new
delegateing a task
an activity that you avoid
I think for me it might have to be trying on different boyfriends for style points
gradual, practice creating more emotional space to handle the anxiety isntead of cutting yourself off.
that was me watching a video on accepting uncertainty
I am going to:
buy my ticket from dallas to ottawa
look at yanas new orleans hotel
look at my finances theyre not the best
look at stuff to do in new orleans
buy a phone I owe my parents $400. Dad paid with his card. How silly of the bank to call your phone, when you're purchasing a phone... I don't have a phone... I can't pick up...
My roomates are the most reasonable people on planet earth! I cannot believe it, its fucking wonderful I love it. SO Logical and so committed to their values of peace love unity respect. It really is PLUR at the end of the day.
Ok so I graduated today, and then we took photos for like 2 hours and then I am thinking about Art and the feeling of being wanted is really nice. He doesn't give it to me as much as I want though. It would be nice if he texted me from time to time or if we established another time but also that feels like me tolerating and learning to tolerate some uncertainty. And being ok with all of the options. I was and still am so fullly committed to going on dates with people (Im SO EXCITED for my DATE WITH LAURYN on wednedsay.)
Ugh Abbeys not answering the phone and I want her opinions on the art scenario. We date people in our common community to talk to each other about it. that makes it an us experience and somewhere along the line, i've forgotten that I have the decision to make choices for myself. We are both "For the plot" girlies (me maybe a bit more than her). What is it with men asking me if I"m going to the club. I am a club rat. Thats what that means.
Also I should probably cook something tonight to eat tomorrow and also find out what time my very reasonable roommate is leaving and what food he's leaving behind.
