Rewatching twd and my heart hurts for Otis. The man was trying so hard to make things right. He was a good guy. To be done dirty like that and die in that way...What a horrible, horrible way to go. RIP Otis my man.

Season 2 Episode 3
Look, there are 11 seasons of this show. Shane is in them for the first 2. It’s easy to forget how much I hate him. Glad I was able to remind myself.
Yes Shane, you need to make yourself look like the psycho you are.
This story being told about Shane doesn’t make him seem like a great candidate to be a police officer. Just saying.
Rick listen to your wife and eat. Please.
Aw Carol needs a hug.
I swear Daryl is the heart of the show. Love but hate how unhappy he is that his future bestie is so heartbroken. He can’t stand it, needs to find her baby girl.
This gym scene makes me think of The Last of Us (can’t wait for that show to come out)
I like that it’s evident Otis knows this school, he knows where the gym lockers are and I think that’s a fun thing to add!
Also I just realised this episode started with a story about Shane in high school, while he is currently trapped in a high school.
Why isn’t he shooting the head. Surely he knows by now that to kill it, YOU SHOOT THE HEAD
Wow he better hope that that bush is enough to protect the very precious medical supplies
Decent jumpscare, I called it, but decent
I would laugh about him being hurt but he needs to get back to Carl
Time to properly meet your future wife and her family, Glenn!
Aw Glenn is so awkward I love him
Low-key love that he takes his hat off. Shows the seriousness
Daryl isn’t considering that they don’t find Sophia
After Carol (because obviously), He appears to be the most unhappy with Sophia being missing.
Daryl acts like what happened in his story doesn’t affect him, but it’s clear that it affected him enough he doesn’t want Sophia to be going through that.
Lori has lost that hope she had earlier. Which is understandable, but Carl lives longer than you so shut up
Don’t worry children can grow up in this world and not become monsters. That’s what happens to the one inside of you
Lori in this conversation reminds me of comic book Carol
Damn Otis gotta be careful with that gun, could have shot Shane, which normally be an issue, but he’s trying to save Carl!
Aw baby carl is adorable, and then trauma
You’d think that after this they would try to find out each other’s blood types in case of other situations requiring blood transfusions. Just saying
Some of the makeup of the walkers in the early seasons kinda ruins the immersion.
Dale is acting like a jealous boyfriend.
Feel like they’ve got Dale as Comic book dale in regards to relationships, but Andrea is her own person so it doesn’t work.
Hey, free knife!
Daryl just doesn’t care about the puke
Why aren’t they taking the free knife? Or searching his tent for supplies?
Andrea is speaking words that aren’t just relevant for an apocalypse.
Surely they could have cut the rope so they didn’t have to waste an arrow?
Why is Carol having to comfort Dale over his creepiness regarding Andrea when her daughter is missing. The focus should be on her, get over yourself Dale
‘Merle Dixons clap was the best thing that ever happened to you’ Love finding things I missed the first time.
I love that there was an instant connection between Maggie and Glenn.
Dale is just obsessive and annoying
And I look at him, and he looks at me
Rick with the motivational speeches!
He was so ready to die for Carl and I appreciate that.
But then he’s so ready to sacrifice for Carl, and I both appreciate and hate that.
It’s a bit rude for Rick to put that whole decision on Lori, but also he should not be making any medical decisions considering his current medical status.
Shane to the rescue!
Herchel with the efficiency again! Don’t tell Patricia
This motherfucking liar I hate him!
Why does he have to look so aggressive while lying
Dale is creepy
Poor Carol
Dale it is her choice no matter what just shut the fuck up
Poor Maggie, at least she has Glenn to help her with her grief
Yay for Carl, Hershel is a godsend
Don’t quite understand why Rick is telling Patricia, should be Shane
Carl looks so small in that bed
What does the 22 on Shane’s necklace mean?
Honestly the walkers seem a little close for that fight to have gone on that long
Hate what he did, but he saved Carl

TV/Comic Death Comparisons
Otis
• In “Save the Last One” Otis is left to be devoured by walkers after being shot in the leg by Shane Walsh.
• In the comics, Otis is devoured by walkers in the Prison. He is put down by Rick Grimes after reanimation.
Sophia Peletier
• In “Pretty Much Dead Already”, Sophia is revealed to have been bitten by a zombie and reanimated, and is later shot in the head by Rick Grimes after reanimation.
• In the comics, Sophia is still alive.
Dale Horvath
• In “Judge, Jury, Executioner”, Dale is disemboweled by a walker on Hershel's farm and mercifully shot in the head by Daryl Dixon.
• In the comics, Dale dies much later during the group's conflict with the Hunters, after being sustaining a bite from a walker. He is shot in the head by Andrea before reanimation. His death is similar to that of Bob Stookey from the TV Series.
Shane Walsh
• In “Better Angels”, Shane is stabbed to death by Rick Grimes, and is shot in the head by Carl Grimes after he reanimates.
• In the comics, Shane's death happens much sooner, roughly a day after the attack on the Atlanta camp. Instead of being premeditated like in the show, Shane's attempt on Rick's life is a “spur of the moment” event, brought on by Shane losing his mind due to several factors. Unlike the show, Shane is shot in the neck by Carl Grimes. After discovering that people reanimate regardless of the circumstances of their deaths, Rick travels to the Atlanta campsite to put Shane down, shooting him in the head.
Lori Grimes
• In “Killer Within”, Lori dies during a C-Section giving birth to Judith Grimes. She is shot by Carl Grimes before reanimation.
• In the comics, Lori survives giving birth to Judith, and isn't killed until the Governor's second assault on the prison, when she is shot and killed by Lilly Caul. This also results in the death of Judith, who is crushed by Lori's corpse, unlike the show where Judith is still alive.
Andrea Harrison
• In “Welcome to the Tombs”, Andrea is bitten by an undead Milton Mamet, whom Philip Blake stabbed and left in a room with a tied-up Andrea. Rather than die from infection, Andrea chooses to take her own life by shooting herself in the head.
• In the comics, Andrea dies much later during the war with the Whisperers. While leading a giant heard away from Alexandria, she is bitten on the neck while saving Eugene. She eventually dies from infection and is stabbed in the head by Rick Grimes after she reanimates.
Hershel Greene
• In “Too Far Gone”, Hershel is decapitated by Philip Blake after Rick refuses to vacate the prison. In “After”, he is put down by Michonne, who stabs him in the head.
• In the comics, Hershel gives up on life after his son Billy is killed during the second prison assault. He is executed by Brian Blake, who shoots him in the head.
Philip Blake
• In “Too Far Gone”, Philip is stabbed through the back by Michonne Hawthorne, and is later shot in the head by Lilly Chambler as he lay dying.
• In the comics, Brian Blake is killed by Lilly Caul, who shoots him in the head and kicks his body into a group of zombies.
Gareth
• In “Four Walls and a Roof”, Gareth is hacked to death by Rick Grimes.
• In the comics Chris, Gareth's comic counterpart, is brutally slaughtered by Rick Grimes, Andrea, Abraham Ford, and Michonne Hawthorne.
Bob Stookey
• In “Strangers”, Bob is bitten on the shoulder by a walker. To spare Sasha from watching his slowly die, he decides to walk out into the woods, where he is knocked out by one of the Terminus remnants. He wakes up, only to discover his leg has been eaten by the Termites. When Bob reveals he's been bitten, Gareth decides to return him to the church. He eventually succumbs to infection in “Four Walls and a Roof”, and is put down by Tyreese Williams before reanimation.
• In the comics, Bob is a former army medic living in Woodbury, who patched up the Governor after the latter endured brutal torture at the hands of Michonne Hawthorne. In the novel series, Bob continues to serve as the town's doctor following the second prison assault until his death of a heart attack. He is then put down by Lilly Caul before reanimation.
Tyreese Williams
• In “What Happened and What's Going On”, Tyreese is bitten on the arm by Noah's zombified brother. His arm is sliced off by Michonne to stop the infection from spreading, but Tyreese dies due to blood loss anyway. He is stabbed in the head by Michonne before reanimation.
• In the comics, Tyreese dies sooner, during the second prison assault. He is decapitated by Brian Blake after Rick refuses to vacate the prison. His zombified head is later stabbed by Michonne Hawthorne. His death is similar to that of Hershel Greene from the TV Series.
Ron Anderson
• In “No Way Out”, Ron holds Rick at gunpoint after witnessing Rick hack off Jessie's hand to save Carl. He is stabbed through the chest by Michonne, which causes him to reflexively fire his gun and shoot Carl's eye out.
• In the comics, Ron is devoured by zombies when he starts panicking and making too much noise. Carl's eye is accidentally shot out by Douglas instead. His death is similar to that of Sam Anderson.
Abraham Ford
• In “Last Day on Earth”, Abraham is picked by Negan Smith to be executed. Negan smashes Abraham's head with his baseball bat, Lucille, off-screen.
• In the comics, Abraham is shot in the back of the head and through the eye with a crossbow bolt fired by Dwight. His death is similar to that of Denise Cloyd.
Glenn Rhee
• In “The Day Will Come When You Won't Be”, Negan Smith smashes Glenn's head with Lucille after Daryl attacks him.
• In the comics, Glenn's death is similar, but happens under slightly different circumstances, as Glenn is the one who is chosen by Negan to be executed.
Olivia
• In “Hearts Still Beating”, Olivia is shot in the face by Arat as retribution for Rosita trying to kill Negan.
• In the comics, Olivia dies much later during the conflict with the Whisperers, when she is decapitated by Alpha.
Carl Grimes
• In “The King, the Widow, and Rick”, Carl is bitten by a walker while taking Siddiq back to Alexandria. In “Honour,” Carl shoots himself in the head after saying goodbye to his friends and family.
• In the comics, Carl survives the entire duration of the series.
Paul “Jesus” Rovia
• In “Evolution”, Paul is stabbed through the heart by an unnamed Whisperer.
• In the comics, Paul Monroe is still alive.
Alpha
• In “Walk With Us”, Alpha has her throat slit by Negan, who then decapitates her and brings her head to Carol. Her head is later recovered and put down by Beta.
• In the comics, Alpha's death is pretty much identical, although the circumstances of her death are slightly different. Negan doesn't lure Alpha away by claiming to have captured Lydia, but she instead approaches him after banishing him to sleep outside the Whisperers' camp. He also brings Alpha's head to Rick instead of Carol. In addition, Alpha's head is not known to have been put down afterwards.
Rosita Espinosa
• In “Rest in Peace”, Rosita is bitten on the shoulder and succumbs to the infection. She is then put down by Eugene before reanimation.
• In the comics, Rosita is one of the pike victims.

A different tomorrow
Tomorrow’s promise au
Pairing: Shane Walsh × reader, Daryl Dixon x reader
Warnings: None
Shane’s pov 2.06
Shane does his best to bite down on his anger; if it weren’t for so many people being around, he would be ripping Dixon to shreds. Rick and Dale’s voices fade further into the background as he focuses on Daryl. Through the open flap of one of the tents, Shane watches as Lily tickles Jace’s tummy with her free hand while Daryl stares at her, his eyes full of adoration.
Motherhood suited Lily; the last few years hadn’t been easy for her, and before, she looked haunted most of the time. But her vulnerable look was now replaced by something else—a mother's love, which had only made her more beautiful.
What caused Shane’s gut to feel as if it were twisting on the inside was seeing the small glances shared between her and Daryl.
He thinks about all the shit he put her through by sleeping with Lori and can see how easy it would be for Lily to develop fleeting feelings for another. Blood's thicker than water. Even if she had a crush on Daryl, with his bluntness and bad boy attitude, he would never be her family, not in the way Shane was.
Rick lightly grips his shoulder, shaking Shane from his thoughts. “We need to deal with this. I’ll get Lori if you get my sister.”
Shane nods. It turns out Carl had lied to Dale and gotten hold of a gun, and now it was a whole other issue to deal with. He looks over to the tent and feels his blood boil. He couldn’t hear anything from where he was standing, but seeing the small smile on Lily’s face irritates him.
“Lily!”
Shane feels as if he forgets how to breathe when he sees Lily leave their son in the tent with Daryl.
The son she had been refusing to leave with anyone else.
Between the cheating and what happened with Otis, he had noticed the shining look of love he used to see daily in Lily’s eyes slowly fading away; in its place was hesitation. The twisting feeling returned and pressed hard on his gut, making him feel sick. He wishes he could take all the pain he’s caused away so that he could see that look of love again.
A sinking realization hits him: Lily trusted Dixon to look after Jace more than she did him.

🥀Shane was the type of person where you can look at him and he'll either break your heart or fulfill it. You were one of those people who tried to guess. so since it was so much fun doing this last year i decided i'm going to participate again. and although i know it's only august right now, i figured it'd be best to start early considering i'll be writing a fic for every day this time.

i know you said that you don’t believe Otis Toole killed Adam Walsh, but do you have any theories as to who may have?
I think it was probably someone who hasn’t been considered a suspect.

Season 2 Episode 2
Been a WHILE since I watched the early episodes, however, I have now finished the entire series so this will be interesting.
Ah the before times
Rick being polite is annoying. Damn Lori, guess we understand why you like Shane.
Aw baby Carl is sad
Run Rick, Run
Admiring Rick for his ability to carry the dead weight of a child WHILE RUNNING (again)
MAGGIE!!!!!!!!!! Fucking love her
Hershel and BETH! Ah I forgot how much I love them (not at this stage though)
Hershel is so efficient but very different from the Hershel I remember, interesting to see characters at their start after knowing their end.
As much as I hate Shane, I do appreciate how he is trying to keep Rick calm
The blood type thing is funny to me after watching the finale.
Love that Daryl’s current priority is Sophia. He is fighting so hard to get her back
I love that medical care, taping a cloth to it, I suppose that’s all they have, but no wonder it gets infected
Theodore Douglas. I think I missed that was his name every other time I’ve watched this.
Dale is just giving T-dog a task because he doesn’t want to babysit
So this is what it’s like for Shane to have Rick’s back.
Carl actually showing his pain here makes me realise a lot of characters don’t show theirs like that when injured. Normally just a hiss of pain or instantly passes out. Amazing acting from baby chandler Riggs here.
(FINALE SPOILERS Judith showed her pain but didn’t cry like that, just saying)
Feel like Shane is being very supportive so far in this episode, feels a bit OOC
At least Otis is taking responsibility for his actions, Maybe you could learn a little something, Shane
Just a little bit on Carol. In later seasons she can be ruthless when it comes to protecting her people, and never stops fighting. Whereas here, she has lost the most important thing to her but agrees to head back for the night as long as they continue tomorrow. Carol from the later seasons would say fuck that and keep searching. However, this Carol has just had her world changed by losing Sofia, after having her world changed with Ed’s death, and that freedom after having her world changed by a freaking apocalypse. Shit keeps happening and it’s interesting to see her like this compared to the multiple Carols from throughout the season.
Don’t understand Rick why gives his gun that means a lot to him to Otis when Otis has a gun and Shane is right there. I know Shane has a gun, but this one means a lot to him.
Did Dale just take a look at Glenn and assume he plays guitar? TF?
Watching this scene just reminds me of the Bad Lip Reading video (Very Cool)
T-Dog is spitting Facts
Fish can hear you thinking just before you sneeze
That’s a big spiders web
How did she walk so far away when they were just walking as a group?
But I mean, cool entrance for Maggie
‘This chick’? That is your future wife Glenn, speak more respectfully!
Thinking about it, was Otis going to carry that deer all the way back? Feel like he would have struggled a bit
I love Hershel’s optimism, but lol you’re all fucked, this is worse than a plague.
Aw love that Carl wanted to give his blood, adorable
I was just thinking why isn’t this man surrounded by food and drinks after donating so much blood.
Why is Lori wearing makeup during a freaking apocalypse?
Lol he might be just a vet, but he’s a damn good vet, and literally all you have
Did they not JUST pass an ambulance? maybe check in there for supplies as well?
Why is Glenn apparently the only competent one to get T-Dog there? Literally feels like trying to get rid of him but whatever
Daryl is good and helpful
Did they consider turning the sirens on and running? It would keep the walkers attention for much longer
Rick needs to sit the fuck down.
Also if they had finale knowledge Daryl should have gone to donate blood.
Why is Otis carrying what appears to be the bigger and heavier bag?
I do appreciate how dedicated Shane is to getting back to Carl and making sure he lives.

The Abduction and Murder of Adam Walsh
Tumblr media
On July 27, 1981, six-year-old Adam Walsh was shopping with his mother Reve at Hollywood Mall in Hollywood Florida. The two went to Sears where Reve had intended to inquire about a lamp that was on sale. While she headed over to the lamp department, Adam was left at a kiosk with Atari 2600 video games on display where several other boys were taking turns playing. At 12:15pm Reve had completed her business regarding the lamp and returned to where she had left Adam only to discover that she and the boys were gone. She was then informed by a store manager that a scuffle had occurred regarding whose turn it was to play the game and security had demanded that the boys leave the store. When the guard asked the older boys if their parents were in the mall, they said no. Adam's parents had assumed that their son was too shy to speak up to the security guard and tell him that he was not will the boys, so he left with them. At the time, the parents also thought that the boys left their son by himself when they exited the store. Meanwhile, Reve looked around the toy department and could not find Adam, so she had him paged over the public-address system while she continued to look around the rest of the store. By coincidence, Reve ended up running into her mother-in-law, Jean, who helped her search for him. After more than 90 minutes of searching and failing to locate Adam, Reve called the Hollywood Police at 1:55pm.
On August 10, a severed head was found in a drainage canal alongside the Florida Turnpike near Vero Beach, which was almost 130 miles from Hollywood. The next day, Adam's parents, John and Reve had appeared on national television saying that they hoped that Adam was still alive. However, soon after the recovered remains were identified as Adam's. The coroner ruled the cause of Adam's death as being asphyxiation. The state of the remains also suggested that Adam had died several days before the discovery of his head.
American serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer was even considered as a suspect at one point as he lived in Miami Beach at the time of the murder. Two eyewitnesses also came forward saying they saw him at the mall the same day Adam was there. One claimed to see a strange man walking in the toy department while the other saw a young, blond man throw a struggling child into a blue van and drive off. When he was interviewed about Adam Walsh in 1992, Dahmer denied his involvement in the crime, stating "I've told you everything- how I killed them, how I cooked them, who I ate. Why wouldn't I tell you if I did it to someone else? When this rumor surfaced, John Walsh came forward saying that he did not see any evidence that linked Dahmer to Adam's abduction and murder.
In 2006, John and Reve Walsh reached out to former Miami Beach homicide detective Joe Matthews, who reopened the cold case. Otis Toole was a convicted serial killer who had confessed to Adam's murder twice but then recanted his confessions. Hollywood Police Detectives were unable to verify Toole's confessions due to a series of errors they made during the investigation. This includes losing the bloody carpet from Toole's car and even the car itself.
98 photos taken by Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators of Toole's Cadillac were developed and shown was a machete believed to dismember Adam's body. A particular image of the carpet behind the driver’s seat showed the bloody image of a young face. "Looking at it, you actually see a blood transfer from Adam's face onto the carpet," said Matthews.
In 2008, nearly 3 decades after the crime occurred, former Hollywood Police Chief Chad Wagner officially named Otis Toole the killer and apologized for past mistakes.
The death of Adam and his father's work as an activist has helped to put faces on milk cartons, start fingerprinting programs, and increase security at schools and stores.

Tomorrow's promise
Pairing: Shane Walsh × reader, Rick Grimes × sister reader
Warnings: Swearing, mentions of injury and blood
Chapter: 2.05
You smile at Carol as she hangs up clothes on the washing line she set up next to the tents the rest of your group were sleeping in, only a short walk from the Greene’s farmhouse. Earlier that day, you’d offered to help her prepare dinner for Hershel and his family, but Carol insisted you didn’t need to help since your hands were full with a newborn. Although her intentions were good, it still left a bitter taste in your mouth.
Neither Rick or Shane would allow you to help search for Sophia, and none of the other women wanted your help with any household chores. You felt useless.
Scanning the area for Shane, you finally spot him leaning over the hood of a car, scowling as he circles different areas still to be searched. He had left the bedroom before you awoke to get an early start. Sensing someone walking behind him, Shane looks up, his facial expression softening, and says, “Morning, darling, how’s our little guy today?”
“He’s been babbling away all morning.” You place your hand on his lower back and say, “Hey, can I ask you something?”
He nods.
In spite of his dishonesty about what happened with Otis at the school, Shane was the only person you could confide in without feeling as if you were crossing a line. “There aren't a lot of walkers around here.”
“That’s not a question,” he laughs.
Rolling your eyes, you continue, “I think I’ve seen maybe two or three walkers since we’ve been here, and Hershel and his family don’t seem like the type of people to put a walker down. What do you think is happening to them?”
Shane Rubs at his jaw, thinking over what you just said. “You’re worried about the lack of walkers?”
“No, I just don’t understand why there are so few. It’s as if the dead cross this invisible line and just disappear.”
“Do you think we should trust them?” He asks, looking over at the farmhouse.
“Yes,” you answer without hesitation. “They are good people; they saved Carl; they let us stay on their land; they let us into their home. The Greenes are kind people. But regardless, I am worried a horde of walkers is about to crash those fences at any minute.”
“Maybe they are getting picked off one by one before they reach the fences. But if not, it’s still not something you need to worry about.”
His comment irritates you; why the hell wouldn’t it be something you need to worry about? You frown. “Why wouldn’t I worry about it?”
“Because I’m here to protect you, aren’t I?” He snaps.
You didn’t understand why your question had gotten him riled up, “Shane?”
“Keeping you and Jace safe is the only thing I care about. If a horde comes crashing through the farm, then we go; we’re not risking our lives or our sons lives to save anyone else.”
“You don’t mean that.”
He scoffs, “Trust me, I do.”
“What about Carl and Rick?”
“Rick can look after himself.”
“We’ve been over this before; I’m never leaving my brother or nephew behind. And after all we’ve been through, I wouldn’t leave anyone else behind either, not when they have risked their lives to keep me and Jace alive.”
“That’s just your baby brain and hormones talking. If you were thinking logically, and in survival mode, you’d think differently.”
You open your mouth to argue but stop when T-dog and Andrea walk by. You fake a smile and wave to them, all while giving Shane a knowing look. When they are out of earshot, you quietly ask, “You know what scares me more than the dead?”
He lets out a deep sigh. “What?”
“Losing my humanity That’s the only thing that keeps us separate from the dead.” Knowing the conversation wasn’t going to change, you walked away before either of you could say anything else. It scared you that after all this time, Shane still didn’t know you well enough to understand that you’d never leave your brother or nephew behind.
“I told him, alive or not, Sophia only matters to the degree in which she doesn’t drag the rest of us down.”
Sighing, you listen to Shane as he rambles on about his ‘long talk’ with your brother while they searched in the woods. Rick had already told you how Shane wanted to stop searching for Sophia. You could see both men’s points, but we’re refusing to get in the middle of them. If it was Jace, you’d never stop looking.
“It’s a heavy burden for Rick to make that call; just give him time.”
As Shane continues to ramble on about Rick not stepping up from his space on the bed, you ignore him, only focusing on trying to get your son to calm down. His scrunched-up face was bright red from screaming and crying so much, and nothing you tried seemed to calm him down. It was moments like this that you were even more thankful the Greenes let you stay inside their farm house because outside, any walkers lurking in the area would be attracted by the crying.
“Give him to me.”
“What?” Shane walks towards you with his arms outstretched, willing to take Jace into his arms, but you’re reluctant to hand him over. Maybe Shane’s comment early in the day really pissed you off, or you took solace in being able to comfort Jace.
“Give him to me,” Shane repeats, his tone softer.
Hesitantly, you hand him over, but smile when Jace momentarily stops crying to stare up at his father curiously before the crying starts again. Poor boy. You wished you could take whatever was bothering him away.
Shane sits on the edge of the bed, rocking Jace gently. “Why are you still standing by the window? Are you waiting on something?”
“Everyone has come back except Daryl.”
“So? He can take care of himself.”
Shane's lack of concern for others was really starting to become a concern. The same question kept gnawing at the back of your mind: how king will it be until Shane starts to turn on your small group?
As you approach the RV, you overhear Glenn asking Dale a question that makes you cringe on the inside and outside.
“Uh, Dale, do you think Andrea’s on her period? I’m only asking because it’s like all the women are acting really weird. And I read somewhere that when women spend a lot of time together, their cycles line up and they all get super crazy hormonal at the same time.”
“I’m going to advise you to keep that theory to yourself,” the older man says.
You swing the door open and say, “Yes, keep it to yourself. The next man who mentions the word hormonal to me will meet a grisly end.” You put a small plastic bag full of clothes, blankets, and towels that needed repairs on the table with your free hand before sitting down. “Now, who else is acting crazy?”
Glenn looks slightly sheepish as he sits down across from you, “Maggie.”
“Ahh, Maggie,” Dale smiles.
It was obvious to everyone that Glenn had developed a crush on the brunette. When Jace starts to gurgle, Glenn gives you a look and holds his arms out, silently offering to take Jace from you. Without thinking, you remove Jace from the makeshift sling and gently lay him in the man’s arms so it’s easier for you to start sowing. It gives you pause when you realize that you’re more comfortable with someone else holding Jace than his own father.
“So what did the lovely Maggie do that was weird?” You ask, continuing the conversation.
“She started off being mean to me, then she wanted to have sex with me, and now she’s being mean to me again. And I don’t even want to know what’s going on with Lori.”
Guilt you suspected.
Dale's brows raise. “What’s going on with Lori?”
“Nothing. I don’t know.”
You had a suspicion. Glenn knew more than he was letting on, but you decided not to press him on it and changed the subject. You weren’t one for gossiping, but you needed the distraction. “How did you know Maggie wanted to have sex with you? Did she tell you?”
Glenn smirks at the question, alluding to the fact that they have already done the deed. You snort, “I hope you used condoms.”
“This isn’t funny,” Dale says in a serious tone. “Did it ever occur to you how her father might feel about this?”
“She’s twenty-two,” Glenn says.
Although he had made a good point and Maggie was an adult, you get the impression that not much happened on the farm without Hershel’s permission. Not wanting to hear anymore lectures from Dale, Glenn gets up and quickly steps out of the RV, with you hot on his tail. “Uh, excuse me, Glenn, my baby?”
“Oh, I wasn’t going far, just sitting outside,” he says, pointing to the swing chair right outside the RV. “I wasn’t going to kidnap him, I swear.”
“I know, I just like to see him at all times,” you smile. “I’ll just grab the sewing kit, then join—”
Andrea cuts you off, yelling, “Walker, walker!”
Glenn hands you Jace before rubbing his hands to grab a weapon. Rick, Shane, T-Dog, and Glenn all rush out to the field the walker is walking through with silent weapons. It worries you to see Shane still limping and struggling to keep up with the other men. Hearing the click of a gun, you look up at the roof of the RV to see Andrea aiming her rifle. “Don’t! You could miss the shot and kill someone.”
“Back off, y/n”
You grabbed a pair of binoculars to see what was going on, because from a distance, it looked as if everyone had stopped running. When you're able to see clearly, you make out the walker is a living, breathing person. “False alarm—”
You jump upon hearing a loud bang, and surpassingly, Jace didn’t seem startled by the loud noise. You glared up at the blonde. Andrea had taken her shot. She was pleased with herself until your brother started to scream.
“You’ve hit someone!” You hand Jace to Dale and take off in the direction the group is in the field. When you get closer, you make out the shape of a body on the ground. You're relieved to see it’s not your brother or fiancé but scared to find out who was possibly dead. You stopped running to catch your breath just as you reached them and saw blood coming from the side of Daryl’s head. “Oh my god, is he alive?”
When Rick and Shane pull Daryl to his feet, he mumbles, “I was kidding.”
You stand in front of Daryl just as he passes out from shock, brushing his hair to the side and saying, “I think it’s grazed the side of his head.” Your eyes travel down, and you notice he’s wearing a necklace of Walker ears. You rip it from his neck, tossing it to the side. “Nobody saw that.”
“Guys, isn’t this Sophia’s?” T-dog asks, holding up a doll.
Shit. Sophia leaving the doll that she clung to behind wasn’t good.
“Are you going to do something about Rick and Shane?”
You turn from the sink to look at Lori. “What makes you think I can do anything? They always butt heads. Falling out, then making up. They are worse than teenage girls.”
“This is different from all the other times.”
Looking over your shoulder, you smile at Patrice as he finishes wiping down the extra table they brought from another restaurant so everyone could eat in the dining room since there were too many to sit around the main dining table. The meal Carol cooked was delicious with fresh vegetables that had been grown on the farm, but with tensions within the group, the atmosphere during dinner was uncomfortable. Since you had to excuse yourself to feed Jace, you missed most of the group meal, only coming back down to the kitchen to help clear up.
“They are both stubborn and headstrong, and neither of them will change their minds,” you whisper. “As of now, the search for Sophia is still happening, so there is no need to make this a big deal.”
Lori asks, “How’s Shane coping with fatherhood? I remember how freaked out Rick was when I was pregnant. God, I can only imagine how Shane would have been finding out before the world went to shit.”
You shoot her a look. Hearing Lori say his name sets something up inside you. You had been trying your best to keep what happened in the past, but you're only human, and your pushed-back emotions were starting to bubble over at the surface. “I’m civil for the sake of Rick, Carl, and everyone else, but don’t push it by asking about Shane.”
“Understood.”
You feel guilty seeing her become teary-eyed before walking away, but it was hard enough without being reminded daily of what happened between them.
You pushed the door to the bedroom Daryl’s in as quietly as you could, in case he was sleeping. It was late, and everyone else had called it a night. Once you settled Jace down, you couldn’t shake the feeling of unease and put it down to worrying about the recently injured members of your group.
“What the hell are you still doing?”
The bluntness makes you chuckle, and you use the sleeve of your jumper to stifle the sound. “I just wanted to check on you. You know, since you almost died and all.”
“Oh, that. I almost forgot until you mentioned it.”
He shuffles over so you can sit on the edge of the bed. Dark circles hung under his eyes; poorly washed-off dirt and blood covered most of Daryl’s face. It was admirable how invested he was in searching for the little girl. “Whatever happens, Carol will never forget how much you’ve done for her daughter.”
“Yeah, whatever. I’m just doing the same as what Rick and Shane are doing.”
“It takes a brave man to do what you did.”
Daryl looks away from you, grunting, facing the wall. He didn’t like hearing kind things said about himself. You lean down to kiss him on the cheek, and at the same time, Daryl rolls back around, causing your lips to lightly brush together. Clearing your throat, you sit upright again and notice how flushed his face has become. Bypassing the awkwardness, you sigh, “You’re a good man, Daryl Dixon, even if you don’t want to believe it.”
