An Unusual Monkey King

I came across this strange US newspaper article about a giant, tusked Monkey King seen by a Buddhist monk in the Yellow Mountains of Anhui Province, China. This particular article was pulled from the Wednesday, January 26th, 1921 edition of the Rural Times (Otego, New York, USA).

The story is connected to “white ape” (baiyuan, 白猿) lore, which portrays the real world gibbon as a divine being possessed of magic powers and secret knowledge. I’ve previously noted that Sun Wukong’s story owes much to the white ape antagonist of a 7th-century tale. A giant, white ape with tusks just sounds so cool. I would love to see an artist draw this titanic primate monarch.

Teško im je da prevrnu planetu samo da bi pronašli neko rešenje. Teško im je da razgovaraju sve dok se ne pronađe neko rešenje ili kompromis. I ne znam zašto, ali teško im je. E pa ne želim da živim u takvom svetu. Ne treba mi takva ljubav. Želim onu staromodnu ljubav. Voleti bez obzira na sve(t). Da mu ja spremim doručak u krevet, da on meni pokloni cvet.
