Okay so this comic came about because while looking up what fashion options existed on the site, I came across this 'cancelled' stamp. Apparently it's a reference to an April Fool's gag the site does, but I got it because nothing is funnier to me then my sweet looking JubJub having this stamped on top of her:

When sharing this discovery with others online, a question that kept popping up was 'man what did she do to get cancelled', and so this comic explaining how she could possibly get cancelled in the world of Neopets came about. After all, there's no such thing as Jelly World....

Alec can’t stop himself. He’s worried and shattered and absolutely terrified, but more than any of that, right now he’s furious.

Furious at Lorenzo for taking advantage of Magnus and willfully endangering him at the same time. Furious at Asmodeus for taking his magic in the first place. Furious at the world daring to deal Magnus even an ounce of pain.

Alec had been sitting in the infirmary at Magnus’s side for hours, refusing to look away even for a second, until Catarina convinced him to get some rest. There’s nothing you or I can do but wait, she’d said.

But she was wrong.

There is one thing. One thing Alec can do, even if it won’t help Magnus directly. Even if his boyfriend will still be lying in that bed when he’s done. Even if it won’t repair the effects of his body rejecting the magic. Even if it won’t bring Magnus’s own magic back to him.

He can’t stop himself, and he doesn’t want to.

The door swings open before he can knock. It’s familiar and wrong at the same time.

Magnus should be opening the door for Alec. Magnus should be the one standing at the window, his silhouette dark against the sunlight and gold curtains. Magnus should be the one standing perfectly upright with a healthy glow about him.

Not Lorenzo. Never Lorenzo.

Not in this apartment, the loft Alec had always imagined his and Magnus’s future in.

“Mr. Lightwood,” Lorenzo calls from the window. His voice is light. Chipper. Alec wants to claw the vocal cords from his neck. That would be breaking several of the Accords, he thinks. He’s almost okay with it.

But, no. Magnus wouldn’t want that, or at the very least, he wouldn’t want to see Alec face the consequences of that. Alec won’t do that to Magnus, no matter how much of a worthless, pathetic excuse of a person and High Warlock Lorenzo Rey might be. A placeholder, Alec thinks. A replacement that doesn’t even come close to the original.

“I’m surprised to see you again so soon. Did you decide you want to come with this apartment after all?” Lorenzo asks. Alec feels sick. Genuinely sick, like he could vomit all over the Persian rug that Alec knows for a fact Magnus spent weeks picking out dutifully.

“The magic you gave him. It’s—” Alec cuts off. He can’t bring himself to say it, he can’t. Killing him. “He’s—”

Lorenzo turns, his back to Alec once again. His voice is almost regretful when he speaks, but Alec hears the underlying glee. “His body is rejecting the magic. It’s a shame,” he tuts. He sighs and turns as Alec steps closer. “I did warn him of the risks,” Lorenzo adds, the smugness of his smile making Alec see bright red.

“You didn’t have to give him the magic. You didn’t have to agree,” Alec says through gritted teeth.

Lorenzo tuts again, moving languidly through the loft to the drink cart. “I think we’re both aware of how stubborn Magnus Bane can be. Nothing I did or didn’t do would have made much of a difference.” He pauses, pouring himself a glass of whiskey. “Care for one?”

The idea makes Alec sick to his stomach. Hell, even just the sight of Lorenzo using Magnus’s things makes him sick. “No,” he says, waving the offer and thought away. “You did this to him.” His voice is jagged, from tears and anger and every emotion in between, he’s sure. “You’re the reason Magnus is in that infirmary bed.”

“I assure you, Mr. Lightwood, that I am not,” Lorenzo says, his own voice angrier at the accusation. Denying. Defensive. “The same might have happened if he’d gotten the magical transplant from any warlock.”

“He didn’t get it from any warlock. He got it from you. You’re supposed to protect the warlocks of this city. You’re supposed to protect Magnus, whether you want to or not.” Alec’s surprised at the anger in his own voice, at the way he growls the words.

“I only did as Bane asked.” Lorenzo sneers, taking a long sip of his whiskey. “Now I’ll have to ask you to leave—”

“Magnus is my world,” Alec says, the words pulled out of him before he even knows he’s thought them. He steps closer, trying not to think about the desperation in his words, the wavering in his voice. “And if he dies—”

“You’ll what?”

The question is simple enough, one Alec would love nothing more than to answer. He would love nothing more than to send Lorenzo to Hell like Maia sent Heidi because that was what he deserved for hurting the man Alec loves.

But, he can’t.

Because things are never simple, not in their world, and because he is the Head of the New York Institute. A Shadowhunter. One who’s dedicated his short-run of leadership to improving relationships between the Shadowhunters and the Downworld. And Lorenzo is the High Warlock of Brooklyn, even though he isn’t deserving of the position. Lorenzo is a warlock, and regardless of that having absolutely nothing to do with Alec’s motivations, he knows how it would look. He knows the centuries of prejudice his people have shown the Downworld, still show the Downworld.

No, Alec can’t kill Lorenzo Rey, no matter how badly he wants to. No matter how much he deserves to suffer for the humiliation and pain he’s caused Magnus.

The worst thing is, he doesn’t know what he can do. Not yet, not now. He’s too caught up in his own anger, his own grief and pain, and he knows that. He knows he came here in an angry rush, too enraged to think straight, to think past He hurt Magnus and I have to make him pay.

Lorenzo is right in front of him, in his face. A challenge. He knows just as well as Alec that he can’t do anything. “I believe I asked you to leave,” he snarls, and Alec feels himself being pushed back, not by Lorenzo’s hands but by his magic. The same magic coursing through Magnus’s body, the same magic his body is rejecting and putting him through pain. Alec lets it happen, surprised the scream bubbling in his throat hasn’t forced its way out.

Lorenzo doesn’t wait for him leave. He turns and disappears down the hall into the bedroom. Magnus’s bedroom. The bedroom Alec’s been spending almost every night in and wanted to wake up in for the rest of his life by Magnus’s side. The bedroom they made love in for the first time, Alec’s first time. The bedroom Madzie came barrelling into in the mornings when she’d spent the night, jumping up and down asking for pancakes. The bedroom that always reminded him of the feeling of Magnus’s arms around him.

Alec’s skin crawls.

He can’t be here anymore. Can’t be in this loft that still feels so much like home, but so unfamiliar and strange. Can’t be here to see the little changes Lorenzo has made like a spreading infection. Can’t be here to see Lorenzo looking so at home and at ease among the little world Magnus had built for himself, while Magnus himself is lying in the Institute’s infirmary fighting for his life. Can’t be here when Lorenzo himself is the reason Magnus is even in that infirmary bed at all.

He turns to leave, hand reaching towards the doorknob when he spots it. He freezes, eyes glued to the little side table beside the door.

The gift he’d given Magnus after their trip to Tokyo. It’s lying on the table, partly underneath a scrap of paper as if it’d been tossed there and forgotten. Overlooked. Alec has no doubt Lorenzo put it there. He remembers how reverently Magnus had looked at the gift, at him. Magnus wouldn’t have treated it like nothing. It must’ve been misplaced and left when they’d quickly packed to temporarily move Magnus into the Institute.

Alec picks it up, his fingers brushing gingerly over the silk. It’s supposed to bring you luck and protection, he’d said when he’d given it to Magnus. By the Angel, he hopes that’s true. He slips it into his pocket and, without a second glance back into the loft, leaves. The door shutting behind him feels infinitely more final than it had when he and Magnus left in the first place.

The beeping of the monitor fills him with dread and reassures him simultaneously. It reminds him of last night, of Magnus’s bleeding nose and bloody cough and Magnus falling to the floor in a seizure. It reminds him of the terror from that moment that’s still clamping down on his heart in a grip he know won’t loosen until Magnus wakes.

But it also means his worst fear hasn’t come true. It means Magnus is still here. Still fighting.

Alec’s entire life has revolved around the divine, around angels and demons, but never once has he been certain of God’s existence as he is now. Thank you, thank you, thank you, he thinks. He repeats it over and over, a mantra. A prayer.

Catarina is at Magnus’s side, sitting tensely in the seat Alec himself had occupied for several hours earlier. Her eyes hold a question as she looks up, her mouth in a thin line. Like she wants to know, but is afraid to ask. He doesn’t blame her. I won’t let him get away with this, he’d said before storming out.

“I didn’t touch him,” Alec says, and her face softens instantly. He sees something almost like regret in her eyes. “I wanted to, but I didn’t.”

Cat doesn’t speak. She stands, leaning over Magnus to kiss his forehead before stepping away. Her hand brushes against Alec’s shoulder as she passes. He smiles, but he’s sure it looks tense and disfigured. She shuts the door behind her, a quiet click as it slides into place, leaving Alec alone with Magnus.

He moves to Magnus’s side, collapsing into the seat Catarina had just left. He doesn’t know how he’s been standing all this time, how he walked all the way back from the loft when his legs feel like jelly and his entire soul feels like it’s being torn into jagged pieces.

“Hey, Magnus,” Alec says, and the rawness in his own voice is enough to make his eyes fill with tears. He blinks, willing them away, as his hand slides into Magnus’s lying on the bed. His hand is cold, clammy, and it’s so different from the usual heat Alec associates with his boyfriend. “I’m back. I went to see Lorenzo,” he says, spitting out the name. “Don’t worry,” he adds. “I didn’t do anything stupid.” He laughs, the sound wet and harsh. “I wanted to, though.”

He remembers the omamori in his pocket, suddenly feeling the weight of the little slip of fabric. “I found something that belongs to you,” he says as he slides it out of his pocket. “It was still at the loft.” Alec lets go of Magnus’s hand, slipping the charm into his hand instead and folding his fingers gently around it. “I took it back. I don’t think Lorenzo will miss it, and it wasn’t for him, anyways.”

“I, uh--I really need you to wake up, Magnus,” Alec says, and he hates how choked the words sound. Hates that he has to say them at all. “I can’t do this without you, any of this. I can’t--I can’t live without you. I said that to you before, and I meant it then, and I still mean it now.”

He closes his eyes, wraps his hands around Magnus’s. “I love you, and I need you, and you were right. I do miss your cat eyes. Like a lot, and it would be really great if I could see them again, right now. If you just--wake up, please.”

But he doesn’t.

He doesn’t, and Alec feels the exhaustion of the last twenty-hours settle over him like a weight. He scoots his chair closer to the bed, laying his head down on the mattress. He uses one arm as a pillow, his other hand still firmly gripped around Magnus’s.

He lets himself drift into sleep, lulled by the beeping of the monitor and the faint pulse he can feel in Magnus’s wrist.

[INTERVIEW] Lovelyz Hints at an Amazing Winter Night with Their Singapore Lovelinus

After successfully concluding the Seoul leg of their concert, Lovelyz revealed last month that they will be coming to Singapore really soon for a one-night-only show!

Titled “Lovelyz 3 of Winter World”, the girls will be taking Singapore fans on a spellbinding winter wonderland adventure while singing many of their hits such as “Candy Jelly Love”, “Ah-Choo”, “Lost N Found”, and more. Performing in Singapore for the first time ever, all the local Lovelinus are definitely in for a treat next weekend!

Debuted in November 2014, Lovelyz’s lineup consists of 8 members: Baby Soul, Jiae, Jisoo, Mijoo, Kei, Jin, Sujeong and Yein. As Woollim’s first ever girl group, they are more than just your typical idol troop. As the epitome of loveliness, Lovelyz will be charming the Singapore crowd with their powerful vocals and cute performances all night long.

Get your lightsticks ready and fan chants memorized, because not only are they working hard to prepare for the show, they have also hinted some exclusive performances (find out more below)!

Happening on 17March 2019 (Saturday), 6 pm at ZEPP@BIGBOX, the concert is closer than ever and with less than 10 days till their arrival in Singapore, we have a little something to get you guys a bit more pumped up.

In view of their upcoming concert, we’ve score an exclusive email interview with Lovelyz and here is what the group has to say to all their Singapore Lovelinus’ out there:

1) What are your thoughts about visiting Singapore for the first time?

Baby Soul: I have been looking forward to it and I am curious to see how it’s like! Jiae: This is my first time visiting Singapore as a Lovelyz member and I want to present a wonderful performance. I am really excited! Jisoo: I am very excited. I heard that Singapore is a very beautiful place so I am looking forward. Mijoo: I am looking forward to it and I am excited just thinking of the people waiting for us there. Kei: As this is my first time, I am even more excited and I want to quickly meet the Lovelinus in Singapore. Jin: Singapore is a country that I really wish to visit so I am so happy to be given a chance to travel there. More than anything else, I am thankful to have the chance to meet the Lovelinus in Singapore. Sujeong: Because all of my friends have been telling me how amazing Singapore is, I can’t wait. Yein: I am so so excited just thinking about meeting our fans in Singapore! And I am really happy because Singapore is a beautiful country that I have always been planning to visit when I have time.

2) Lovelyz has been consistent when it comes to music concept and style. Is there any concept the group would like to explore for the next comeback?

Kei: I want to try challenge an energetic song with a slight ‘Girl Crush’ concept. Jisoo: I really want to try ‘Girl Crush’ concept. Mijoo: Me too! ‘Girl Crush’~ Jin: I want to try promoting ballad songs like our BTOB seniors! Lovelyz’s ballad songs are nice..! Sujeong: I want to try having a title song that has a daydream-like atmosphere. Baby Soul: I want to try a ‘Girl Crush’ or a chic, dreamlike and mysterious concept. Jiae: I want to try wearing a uniform and having a ‘Girl Crush’ concept~ Yein: I really (!) wanna try a ‘Girl Crush’ concept~!

3) If you could form a sub-unit in the group with any member(s), who would you pick and why?

Jin: I would pick the members in the ‘Morning Star 새벽별’ unit (Baby Soul, Kei, Jin). We are the only members in Lovelyz that are not using our real name hehe. We presented a ballad song before but if there’s another chance… ^^ I would like to do it again. Baby Soul: I would pick Sujeong. The genre we would like to try is similar yet our vocal colors differ so I think it will be unique and fun. I think we can release a good song. Yein: I would pick Mijoo and Sujeong! We are the tallest in the team and our charms are quite different so I think if we were to perform together, we could make an amazing stage. Jiae: I would pick Baby Soul. I want to do a song with her rapping in it! Hehe. Jisoo: I want to be in a Hip-hop duo with Baby Soul! Before debuting, Baby Soul practiced rap alone for a long time so if I’m with Baby Soul, I think it will be fun and it will help a lot. Mijoo: I was in a sub-unit with Sujeong and Yein before but I want to try that again. Kei: I love the Sujeong-Kei combination. Sujeong: I would pick Yein and Mijoo. We have released a unit song in our album before but I hope there will be another chance for us to have proper activities as a sub-unit.

4) What do your fans mean to you? Describe Lovelinus in three words and elaborate on why you chose these three words.

Sujeong: Energy, love and warmth. I need to have Lovelinus to have strength while performing, because they always watch us warmly with their love! Jisoo: Food! Clothing! Shelter! These are the basic things humans need, and Lovelinus is what Lovelyz need. Baby Soul: Love, strength, and encouragement. Because of Lovelinus’ overflowing love and presence, we are able to gain strength, courage and continue forward. Mijoo: Light, Star, Love! Lovelinus are lovable people that are always shining brightly like a star. Yein: The reason I exist, a present and a blessing. Jiae: Power, energy and energizer. They all have the same meaning but because of our fans, it doesn’t matter if there are just 1, 10 or a few, even when I am exhausted, I can feel all my tiredness disappear. Kei: The sky. I can see it whenever I look up and just like the sky, I also want to be a comforting existence for our fans. Jin: Halfway mark. After meeting Lovelinus and learning of their love, I feel as though all the thoughts I had till now are slowly changing hehe.

5) What is one variety show that Lovelyz would like to go on and why?

Yein: “Radio Star”. I think it will be fun if we go there and disclose each other’s secrets! Haha. Jin: I want to film a Lovelyz reality show once more! Mijoo: We have not been on “Running Man” as a whole before but I think it will be fun. Kei: “New Journey to the West” is a program I have been watching well recently so I would love to appear there! Baby Soul: “Running Man” will probably be funny. I think it goes well with us – Running, games and all. Jiae: I want to film a Lovelyz reality show! It’s been a long time since we filmed that and I think there are many fans who have been curious about our daily lives recently. Jisoo: Our own reality show. Because I want to show fans our most natural, comfortable selves. Sujeong: “The Return of Superman” is a program I watch every week and I really want to appear there so I can meet the kids in real life ㅠ

6) If you could film a reality show involving your fans, what would you like to do or how would you spend the day together?

Mijoo: Just having fun together without having a single thought. Baby Soul: Just like the reality TV show “Three Meals a Day”, I want to go to a village and catch fish, farm vegetables and cook with fans. Jiae: A day we will never forget! A day that we will not stop smiling! Yein: I want to have some traditional experiences together! Play some Korean traditional games, etc.! Haha. Jisoo: I want to volunteer. I want to make things people would need and cook.. And leave a lot of memories. I think I will feel proud and good. Sujeong: Recently I have become interested in cooking so I want to cook for our fans. Kei: I want to go for an MT~ We can grill some meat and play some games, I want to spend a fun day. Jin: I want to organize a sports meet!

7) Lots of thoughts were put into the outfit concept for “Destiny”, such as the matching of lunar phases. What is one other thing that Lovelyz has put a lot of thoughts in?

Jisoo: Actually, compared to ‘Destiny’ and since ‘Lost N Found’, our stylist asked us the style of clothing we wanted to try and then they personally designed it. The shape and length of a skirt was all done according to what the members wanted. Jiae: We put a lot of thought in our live performance at that time~! Because it’s been a long time since coming back from our last album, we wanted to show our improved selves. Mijoo: We put in much effort musically. Jin: During ‘That Day’, I lost too much weight that I did not look good on screen. So since then, I have been eating a lot and putting in more effort to gain some weight. Yein: The stage outfits were really pretty and the Earth rotation dance was quite cool so we worked really hard to express it well. Baby Soul: We emphasized a lot on a song’s lyrics and expression. Kei: Our live performances! We put a lot of thought into our performances because we always want to show great stages. Sujeong: The decorations on our wrist and the details in the fabric.

8) Are there anything that the members have taken interest in recently?

Jiae: Personally, I fell for passionfruit ade. Jisoo: Eating! Not recently but always~ Mijoo: Writing lyrics. Sujeong: I have taken an interested in slime. Kei: Clothes. Since spring is coming, I have been trapped by those pretty spring outfits. Jin: Meat?!!!! Kekeke Baby Soul: Reading, watching films, composing and exercising. Yein: Watching dramas.

9) What can Lovelinus look forward to at your upcoming concert in Singapore?  Will there be any surprise element being prepared for the fans?

Baby Soul: We plan to perform new stages we have never shown before so please look forward to them! Jiae: As this is our first time to meet Singapore Lovelinus, we are currently working really hard to prepare even better stages! Please look forward to it! Jisoo: We are going to show new stages, different from those previously shown in our Seoul concert so please! Come and see us! Mijoo: Secret~ Kei: We have many stages that cannot be seen on music broadcasts and can only be seen at our concerts~ So please keep a lookout for it and we want to create an unforgettable memory with our Singapore Lovelinus! Jin: That~~ You just have to see it for yourself at the concert~!!! Sujeong: We are going to perform songs that are not included in our Korea concert! Look forward to it! Yein: We may perform songs that are not included in our Korea concert!! And we are working hard on preparing for it!!! So please look forward!!! Haha.

Precuruary: Mahou Tsukai Precure

Finally, I review the series that seems to be the most hated Precure series, even more so than Doki Doki and Happiness Charge! I also reveal why I actually kinda like it....

“Asahina Mirai, a soon-to-be student in junior high, witnesses an object fall from the sky one night during spring break. Excitedly exclaiming that it could be a witch, Mirai sets off the next morning with her beloved toy teddy bear Mofurun to search the park. At the park, Mirai witnesses a girl soaring through the air on a broom. Excited and curious, Mirai barrages the girl with questions. The young witch introduces herself as Riko and explains that she's come to the "No Magic" World to search for certain objects. The two girls notice that they're wearing similar pendants. Meanwhile, Batty, a companion of Dokurokushe the Wizard of Darkness, appears in front of Mirai and Riko! Batty demands that Riko hand over the "Linkle Stone Emerald", which Riko herself had been looking for. To make things worse, Batty uses dark magic to create a monster known as a Yokubaru! Mirai, Riko, and Mofurun join hands. With the magic words "Cure Up RaPaPa!", their pendants shines a magical light over them! The legendary witches "Pretty Cure" are born!”

So, why does everyone seem to despise this series so much? Well, the main issue with this series is it’s writing and execution. The plot tends to throw some immature or just plain weird scenes at random and it seems like the writers just didn’t know what to do, so they just put whatever they thought was a good idea at the time. The plot is also a bit rushed and sadly, the characters suffer a lack of proper development. Put it short, the plot and the development is just a big mess. I heard it was because the writer and director kept clashing, like one wanted to something real dark and epic like Go! Princess and the other wanted it to stay cutesy and safe. I really wished they had stuck with the more darker route. I mean it’s a series about witches.Dark and witches go hand in hand together. The cutesy parts can get a little boring too for some folks, I didn’t mind it too much. 

So, despite all that, why do I actually like it and even get a little defensive for it? Shouldn’t I hate it like I do Doki Doki and Happiness Charge? Well I’ll list my reasons in so is to be consistent, unlike the plot of Maho Tsukai.

1.) Kinda likable characters.

I will admit, while they’re not the most deepest or complex of characters, most of the MTP characters are pretty likable. 

(Well okay, I said MOST, not all.)

I really do like Riko. Yeah, she can be snobby but this melts away rather fast and the way she does it, is very appropriate for her age. She’s a kid that wants to be more grown up, so she tries to look impressive. She’s has a lot of insecurities that come natural for someone her age and she acts a lot like how I expect a kid would act.

Which speaking of which, I feel like the three main trio are actually suppose to be in Elementary School, but they felt they needed to have them be in junior high. They don’t even look 13! They look more so 10 years old at the oldest but decided to changed it to 13 so is to fit with the other precure franchise. Come on, Toei! This franchise is aimed at elementary school kids anyway, we wouldn’t mind if you made them younger. Look at Cardcaptor Sakura and some of the older magical girls series. Some of the main cast in those are 10!

Anyway, I also like Ha-chan. Yes, she can be annoying at times, but I thought she was pretty cute and I really like her design as Cure Felice. She’s absolutely gorgeous in this form. 

I also really enjoy some of the kids, teachers and staff members at the Magic School, especially Kochou. At long last we get a handsome male supporting character that is both useful, interesting, likable and not look like a creeper (Such as Joe from Doki Doki)! His relationship with Kushy is very sweet. Some question whether or not it’s gay. I kinda wonder myself. I would be lying if I said I didn’t see this, that’s for sure. It could be just a real firm friendship but well, you ship who you want.

Bad ass design too! Though I really question on why he’s wearing a lampshade for a hat....

Mofurun can be a little unsettling to me at times and get a little annoying with that baby like voice, but they did grew on me. (Yes, I see Mofurun as non binary because well, teddy bears don’t have reproduction organs) I like how Mofurun is useful in many other ways besides being the transformation device. Most fairies that aid with transformation, tend to fall flat when it comes to being useful in other ways. Mofurun can sense linkle stones and was willing to risk their life to protect the stones from getting in the wrong hands. That’s pretty solid for me. Go teddy!

Not to mention, but Mofurun as Cure Mofurun is just adorable! I wish that Mofurun was actually a witch doll with Cure Mofurun’s design. It would have been way cuter and well...None of the Cure Mofurun plushies would be over 40 bucks! (US dollars). Speaking of which...

2.) The Relationship Between Mirai and Mofurun

As someone that was really close to her stuffed animals, I kinda understand Mirai’s feelings towards Mofurun. In fact, I think most kids get the connection. It’s common for kids to love their toys, especially a toy given to them by someone really close to them. The belief of it gaining a personality is also a common thing kids like to do and also a belief in Japanese culture. The belief goes if you love something such as a toy or even an accessory so much, that object will gain a soul and that soul will protect you for loving it so much. (Same if you treat an object badly and the object hates you). It’s kinda silly but this is a nice touch to the culture and to childhood. Well Mirai is certainly not my favorite, she’s really bland on her own, the relationship with Mofurun is pretty cute and again, I can see a young kid having a close bond with their stuffed animal. When I was a kid, I use to pretend my stuffed animals had personalities too and especially loved this tiger plush, given to me by my grandma.

3.) This is short but the nods to old Precure series and designs.

The whole holding hands and use of attacks, even the speeches before the power up, are actually nods to old Precure series that also did this. It’s kinda nice of them contributing to older series. 

The designs of the outfits, especially Sapphire and Over the Rainbow are really well done and the transformations are fun to watch. The animation can be a little mediocre but beautiful in the transformations and I’m glad they decided to just do mostly 2D animation this time, with only resorting to 3D in the endings.

4.) The Witch World and How They Convey Witches As A Whole.

This is what I think MTP does a lot better than Ojamajo Doremi. How they convey witches. Well they use the same similar tropes such as the pointy hats and the broom flying, the way they convey witches is kinda surprising and kinda respectful. Believe it or not, witches do exist in a way. They don’t fly on brooms and the magic isn’t as instant as shown in this series. I’m mainly talking about witches and connection towards nature, as well as some of the lore tied in.

In the Magical World, nature seems to be a major key element to the magic of witches, which is true to actual witch beliefs. From their wands coming from trees, to taking care of mystical animals and right down to how the Magical World is made, is direct tie in with the belief of witches. 

 In some lore, mainly Wiccan, there is a belief that there is a Goddess and horned king in charge of taking care of the world.  Mother Rapapa and the Deustmas generals kinda seem to be a representation of that belief. I dunno if that was their main intention, but kudo points for adding in anyway, especially if it was.

I also like how witches in this world are just ordinary people that just happen to use magic as a passionate subject. That’s what I found inconsistent in Ojamajo Doremi. In Doremi, it seems like witches are not human. There’s not even wizards in their world. They’re in another one. They’re like some sort of weird creature not connected with people at all, since they can’t be found out by humans thus turn into frogs. Yet, somehow humans can become witches when given these magic jelly bean looking things.

Plus the designs of the witches in Doremi I found disrespectful and lazy! At least in Mahou Tsukai, witches and wizards are treated like their own person, with their own style. Yeah, they have the typical hats and such but they at least try to make them interesting. I also didn’t like how magic was given so easily in Doremi. With Mirai, she had to kinda prove herself that she was willing to put in effort to do magic. Yeah, it consisted of saying the magic words over and over, but at least it just wasn’t given to her like “Here some magic jelly bean things. Now you can do magic!” Part of the belief in witches is putting spiritual effort into the thing you desire. Doremi it seemed more like the magic was coming from the seeds, then themselves. As for Reiko, well, she comes from a line of strong witches so magic is born in her and she doesn’t get good in her magic until later.

5.) Deusmast Villains

Oh, come on, you knew this was coming! Deustmast generals are the best in the series. There the ones that caused some people to come back and watch this series again, especially Orba! They’re threatening, they’re smarter and they have great designs! 

Fun fact is not only are these guys really cool but also may have from different beliefs, including from witches. Not only can they presumably be based on the horned king of Wiccan and possibly (though more obvious) the Muslim belief of Jin/genies, but also the belief that help create Halloween. In ancient times before people started really getting into religious beliefs, people turned to witches to help  fight off monsters and demons that were said to appear mostly during Halloween. The witches would dress kids up in costumes, to confuse the monsters into thinking the kids are one of their own demon brethren. They would also use spells and incantations to fight them off.

I heard they were too scary for kids. Too scary my butt! DysDark villains were far from “cute” and went all out dastardly at times! If Precure starts getting lame villains because of that notion, it will be forever before we have a good series like Go! Princess! Threatening villains help create intensity, making you feel there’s more at stake for our heroes!

Either way, the Deusmast generals were certainly a lot better than the Idiot Trio. No, I refuse to call them “Dark Magicians”. That’s an insult to Dark Magician from Yugioh and I refuse to stoop that level!

Plus, come on. Orba is like the hottest character to come out of a magical girl series! He’s a package! He’s a book worm, he’s a hot without his glasses and when he powers up, he’s a hunk! It’s like 3 hot dudes in one! Who knew you could get such in a show aimed at kids! Plus, it’s said he’s based on the one wing angel and fallen angels. I believe that because he certainly looks like one. I always said his face is angelic and it is!

So, yeah, there’s a bit to like and appreciate from this series. Some people may disagree and if you’re one of them that’s fine. I can understand it. I’m a big fan of anything witch related as you can probably tell, so I’m usually forgiving. The only witch series I don’t like is The Familiar of Zero, mainly because I hated the main character and to some extend Doremi. I do like the idea of musical witches and they did convey what childhood is like real well, but the characters were annoying to me and again, I just didn’t like how the witches are represented in that series. 

So, I do like Mahou Tsukai a bit actually. In fact, it’s become my second favorite series. I like it not as a good series but as a guilty pleasure. I appreciate what it was trying to do, quite a few characters are likable, just a bit under developed and the ideas put in it, is pretty interesting. Sadly, I have to judge this as a whole so I’m gonna have to rate it a bit low.

I give Mahou Tsukai Precure 4 and a half stars out of 10. My recommendation is for anyone that can enjoy a series that’s cute, with some nice ideas thrown in there and don’t mind that the plot can be a bit messy. Put it short, if you like cute guilty pleasures, you’ll like this fine. Some of the bad moments can be laughable especially some of the dialog. Just whatever you do, don’t watch episode 50. It’s pointless and this is coming from a fan. I rather like to believe that episode just didn’t exist.

If you’re looking for a series that is intense with a good story line, you’re better off skipping this whole series, but I do recommend it more than Doki Doki or Happiness Charge. At least it tries to stand out with some interesting characters and ideas. Those two series are just horrible and the only good idea of Happiness Charge was different precure from other countries.
