Film, also called movie, motion picture or moving picture, is a visual art-form used to simulate experiences that communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty, or atmosphere through the use of moving images. These images are generally accompanied by sound, and more rarely, other sensory stimulations.[1] The word “cinema”, short for cinematography, is often used to refer to filmmaking and the film industry, and to the art form that is the result of it.

Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider. The verb to stream refers to the process of delivering or obtaining media in this manner.[clarification needed] Streaming refers to the delivery method of the medium, rather than the medium itself. Distinguishing delivery method from the media distributed applies specifically to telecommunications networks, as most of the delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television, streaming apps) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, audio CDs). There are challenges with streaming content on the Internet. For example, users whose Internet connection lacks sufficient bandwidth may experience stops, lags, or slow buffering of the content. And users lacking compatible hardware or software systems may be unable to stream certain content.

Live streaming is the delivery of Internet content in real-time much as live television broadcasts content over the airwaves via a television signal. Live internet streaming requires a form of source media (e.g. a video camera, an audio interface, screen capture software), an encoder to digitize the content, a media publisher, and a content delivery network to distribute and deliver the content. Live streaming does not need to be recorded at the origination point, although it frequently is.

Streaming is an alternative to file downloading, a process in which the end-user obtains the entire file for the content before watching or listening to it. Through streaming, an end-user can use their media player to start playing digital video or digital audio content before the entire file has been transmitted. The term “streaming media” can apply to media other than video and audio, such as live closed captioning, ticker tape, and real-time text, which are all considered “streaming text”.

Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time.[1][2][3][4][5] The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself.[6][7][8] A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States.

Some jurisdictions require “fixing” copyrighted works in a tangible form. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rights holders.[citation needed][9][10][11][12] These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights such as attribution.[13]

Copyrights can be granted by public law and are in that case considered “territorial rights”. Copyrights of this type vary by country; many countries, and sometimes a large group of countries, have made agreements with other countries on procedures applicable when works “cross” national borders or national rights are inconsistent.[14]

The death and disappearance of thousands of Indigenous children and the Queen's alleged direct involvement begs the question: How much more do we not know about what happened to thousands of native people in Canada?

St Paul's Residential School

In 1964 Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited the Kamloops Residential School in Kamloops British Columbia, Canada. 10 children were alleged to have been taken to join them for a "picnic" and were never to be seen again.

In 2013, a video was uploaded to Youtube by the ITCCS or International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State. It compiled multiple witness accounts from both victims and their families, detailing events that occurred during inhumane oppression and effective genocide of the native people of Canada and Alaska through use of Residential Schools. While the ITCCS is not an accredited organisation, they state that they are a coalition of survivors of Church violence, spanning across 9 countries and that the purpose of the video was to convene an "Online Common Law Court of Justice. While many Fact Checker websites denounce any legitimacy to the claims and aims of the organisation - citing it as a blog run by a single disgruntled man - the sheer amount of witnesses and others working for the alleged organisation, contradict claims made by Fact Checkers. Historical evidence can also be seen to bolster the claims made by the ITCCS. With so many coming forward to participate in the proceedings of the independent litigation, and an independent jury of over 20 deciding on the guilty charge, I believe the stories of each victim and their families should not be dismissed.

As Sovereign to the UK, the Queen has diplomatic immunity and "civil and criminal proceedings cannot be taken against the Sovereign as a person under UK law". So even in the event of these stories being investigated by recognised organisations, the Queen would most likely have any evidence covered up and not face consequences for her hands in the disappearance and deaths of any of the people I will be discussing in this post. Kamloops is just the tip of the iceberg. The story that unfolds from 1863 till today is one that has been covered, silenced and cost the lives and liberty of multiple people who dared to speak out or investigate.

From 1863 to 1996, over 150,000 indigenous children were taken from their families and placed in state-run boarding schools funded by The Royal Family via tax-payers dollars and their various affiliates. Many children were abused, disappeared or died whilst in attendance and thousands of bodies were disposed of or crudely buried without being reconciled with their families.

The landmark Truth and Reconciliation report, released in 2015, said the policy amounted to "cultural genocide".

Whilst the Canadian government has made strides in delivering on reparation for some of the families, the Royal Family and their perverted friends who benefited from the trafficking of many of the young children, are yet to even admit their involvement.

The first to speak out about his experience in Residential Schools and against her majesty, was William Combes. He was 59 and in good health but following his efforts to spread word and the subsequent article released detailing his account, he was committed to St Paul's Hospital for "tests" by his newly assigned doctor. His health immediately began deteriorating and he died of a still undisclosed cause. The Vancouvor Coroner's Department also refuses to comment on his death.

In his heart wrenching account, William described the torture he suffered at the hands of Priests at the Kamloop’s Residential School. His main abuser being a Father Murphy, who he said to have witnessed throw a little girl off a three story balcony, killing her. After failing in an attempt to escape, following witness of the murder, he was placed on a rack, having bones broken as to deter him from trying to run ever again.

He then goes on to describe the fateful day the 10 children disappeared after a "picnic" with the Royals. He says he remembered seeing "the Queen leave the picnic with ten children from the school, and those kids never returned".

Port Albany Residential School

This picnic ruse has also been seen used in the trafficking of orphaned and "illegitimate" children, into slave labour until the 1970, at the behest of our government and Monarch. This was described by journalist Giulia Rhodes in a column for the Guardian when she released interviews from victims of the trafficking travesty.

Both the implementation of Residential Schools and the trafficking of orphaned or "bastard” children were supported by or at the direct behest of the monarchy.

Now the terrifying confirmed truth of the cultural genocide is awful enough without embellishment from any allegations, founded or not. The thousands of missing and dead children are not hear-say and have an evil seeded history of their own.

Residential schools were created in an attempt to assimilate indigenous children to the dominant Canadian Culture - "To kill the Indian in the child".

Due to an amendment to the 1876 Indian Act in 1894, it became mandatory for all children of the First Nations to attend either day, industrial or residential schools and with indigenous communities living far from the European settlements, residential schools were the only way to comply for many native-Canadians. Intentionally located at substantial distances from Indigenous communities to minimize contact between families and their children, the Indian Commissioner Hayter Reed argued for schools at greater distances to reduce family visits, which he thought counteracted efforts to "civilize" Indigenous children. Intended to restrict parental visits further, a pass system was introduced, preventing Indigenous people from leaving Reservations, further confining native peoples to their settlements and their children to the schools. The last federally operated residential school closed in 1996, called Gordon's Indian Residential School and was located in Punnichy, Saskatchewan.

As explained in the executive summary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's (TRC) final report: "Underlying these arguments was the belief that the colonizers were bringing civilization to savage people who could never civilize themselves. The 'civilizing mission' rested on a belief of racial and cultural superiority."

As a result of the intentional distance placed between schools and Indigenous communities, there was much opposition from the Indigenous people, leading government officials to be tasked with "rounding up" children from Reservations. With schools reliant on student number quotas to receive funding, as well as racist sentiments being writhe in Canadian communities, a cycle of cruel brutalisation of children so the greedy could line their pockets, began.

Research by the TRC revealed that at least 3,201 students had died, mostly from disease. TRC chair, Justice Murray Sinclair, has suggested that the number of deaths may be closer to more than 6,000.

Since the closing of the residential schools, the federal and provincial governments have issued apologies, whilst still denying blame, claiming that due to the schools being founded pre-Confederation, they should not be held accountable. This despite the continuation and increasing violence and oppressive restrictions taking place well into the days of the Federation.

The Vatican also issued an “expression of sorrow” as opposed to an apology, saying the following:

His Holiness [i.e. the Pope] recalled that since the earliest days of her presence in Canada, the Church, particularly through her missionary personnel, has closely accompanied the Indigenous peoples.

Given the sufferings that some Indigenous children experienced in the Canadian Residential School system, the Holy Father expressed his sorrow at the anguish caused by the deplorable conduct of some members of the Church and he offered his sympathy and prayerful solidarity. His Holiness emphasized that acts of abuse cannot be tolerated in society. He prayed that all those affected would experience healing, and he encouraged First Nations Peoples to continue to move forward with renewed hope.

Placing blame on "some individuals” for the founding, funding and running of hundreds of Residential schools, which would have been impossible to have kept in business for over 100 years without the knowledge, let alone support, of the Vatican and it's then Pope. Imploring the victims to "move forward with renewed hope” instead of offering a genuine apology and admittance of the Church's involvement.

The eerie case surrounding Queen Elizebeth and Prince Philip's involvement has yet to be officially investigated and thousands of indigenous people remain missing or assumed dead. The TRC organisation and others like it are dedicated to the finding and reconciliation of lost family members to their loved ones and ancestral home. BODY OF STABBING VICTIM DISCOVERED IN CEMETERY – Police are at Westbury Cemetery, Westbury Road, St Michael investigating the discovery of a man’s body with stab wounds. Lawmen said they received a report about 6:15 a.m. that a body was noticed in the cemetery with stabs wounds. Police are treating it as an unnatural death and their investigations are ongoing. (SS)

MAN DIES AFTER BEING SHOT – A St. Michael man is dead following a shooting incident at Golden Rock, The Pine last night. Lawmen say, 44-year-old Keron Anthony Hodge of #92 Midway Lane, Pinelands, St Michael was liming with other persons when a group of men passed by and opened fire about 11:45 p.m. last night. Hodge received gunshot wounds to his chest area and was transported by private vehicle to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel just after 12:00a.m. this morning. (SS)

UPDATE: MASS CASUALTY ACCIDENT ON BELMONT ROAD – Emergency personnel were called into action last night to respond to an accident which resulted in 13 people being injured. A minibus and a car were involved in the accident which occurred about 7:20 p.m. along Belmont Road, St. Michael. The minibus (B101) owned by Motor Haven, Black Rock, St Michael and was driven by 46-year-old Terry Hunte of Sealy Hall, St Philip and the car was driven by 42-year-old Terry Forde of Inch Marlow, Christ Church. The driver of the car and two of his passengers were transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. While the driver of the minibus and nine of his passengers were treated at the scene and discharged. None of the injuries were life-threatening. The minibus was moderately damaged while the car was extensively damaged. Police said the car was travelling west towards the city while the minibus was travelling in the opposite direction the exact reason for the crash has not yet been determined. (SS)

PORT OFFICIALS RESPOND TO SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO ALLEGING THEFT – Barbados Port Inc (BPI) says it has been made aware of a video circulating on social media platforms, which shows people removing wheels from vehicles amidst a backdrop of cargo containers. “This is not a local video, but more importantly does not depict the plant of the Port of Bridgetown,” BPI said in a statement on Saturday. “Be advised that all BPI employees wear the required company branded uniforms and personal protective equipment (PPE) while in Port and on duty.” BPI is assuring all importers that it remains committed to the highest standards of service and security protocols at all levels of our operation. HOPEFULS TO FACE-OFF TODAY – Whoever wins the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) St Michael West nomination this evening will likely be the next representative for that constituency after the next general elections, says political pollster Peter Wickham. He said it is to the credit of the BLP that they have been able to attract two quality candidates in Steven Leslie and Chris Gibbs, as both are young and intelligent and can bring an energy to the representation of a demanding urban constituency. Leslie, Director of Cricket at the Barbados Cricket Association, and Gibbs, an engineer and businessman, face-off for the nomination at the St Leonard’s Boys School, Richmond Gap at 4 p.m. The nomination is to replace Bishop Joseph Atherley as the ruling party’s representative in St Michael West after he parted company with the BLP to become Leader of the Opposition. SHORTER WAIT FOR LIQUOR LICENSES – If changes to the Liquor Licence Act are approved, applicants will have to wait only a week to know if they are successful. Currently it can take up to four months for people to receive their licences, and Minister of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce Dwight Sutherland expressed concern about this situation. “To have you apply for a liquor licence, to sell liquor, which is a commercial activity that drives the economy, and for you to take three and four months . . . you apply and it goes to the police, magistrate and it goes back to the police. “When we did our mapping, we found some 1 000 liquor licences sitting down in the Holetown Court waiting to be approved, and when we dug further – and this is no fault of the clerk – we recognised the clerks were the ones approving those applications and not the magistrates, and that is a cause for concern,” Sutherland said. He was speaking at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Friday during a second national stakeholders consultation that was attended by Government officials, members of the private sector and officials from the National Council on Substance Abuse. The Liquor Licence Act has been in effect since 1957 and, for at least the past 20 years, both administrations have tried to make changes to the act. If the amendments are made, a Liquor Licensing Authority will police the legislation. “So with the repeal and replacement you have the process moving from some three months to some seven days and it will be done on a digital platform so you can apply online via credit card. “If you don’t have a credit card, we have set up the facility at the Post Offices throughout Barbados so you can pay. CALL FOR CLEAR POLICY ON WIFI IN SCHOOLS – A philanthropist is calling on the Ministry of Education to set clearly defined rules on the use of WiFi and electronic devices in schools. Founder of the Aron and Christina Truss Foundation, Aron Truss, made the call, noting that without it, innovation in schools could be hindered. “As far as we are aware, there still aren’t official policies on the use of devices in the classroom, or WiFi in schools, so schools can’t really push forward with technology and innovation until those things are dealt with. “So we’d really encourage the ministry to get on with it so that other projects like ours can start to take place in education,” he said. ACE PROGRAMME HELPING BOYS AT ST LEONARD’S – It has only been five weeks but the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust/St Leonard’s Boys’ Alternative Curriculum & Entrepreneurship Programme is already reaping success. The programme is the brainchild of former Third Form Year Head, Winston Cumberbatch, who realized that some of the boys were going down the wrong path when they reached Third Form. To illustrate the problem, Cumberbatch disclosed that this year, 30 students were repeating Third form “for very poor academic performance due to general weakness, little effort and/or indiscipline”. He was speaking Thursday at the official launch of the SLCT/SLB’s Alternative Curriculum and Entrepreneurship Programme at the Richmond Gap, St Michael school. Cumberbatch, who is now the First Form Year Head, told the audience of parents, students and members of the stakeholder organizations that he recommended to the Principal that an additional Third Form be created for those boys. The curriculum, while offering a reduced number of academic subjects, has been enhanced with developmental and vocational subjects. The central focus, however, is business and entrepreneurship, he stated. The subjects include: English, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Principles of Accounts, Caribbean Vocational Qualifications, Reading, Home and Family Life Education, Business Craft and Life Skills, which will be taught by the Mentorship with Love organization. Cumberbatch reported that since the programme started this term, the boys have attended all of the classes and have shown enthusiasm towards the new curriculum. Previously, he noted, they were skipping classes and displaying a general lack of interest. Parents have also been reporting improvements in the attitudes of their sons. MORE PRIZE MONEY FOR NIFCA – Greater rewards are in store for Barbados’ most talented through the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA). Chief executive officer of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Carol Roberts-Reifer revealed yesterday that prize monies for all of the awards have increased, new award categories were being introduced, and competitors would also be able to gain developmental opportunities. Deeming the changes as an upgrade to the festival which will take effect from this year, Roberts-Reifer said the team was making adjustments based on the pleas of the general public and past NIFCA participants. “It was time to do an assessment of the festival, retain the excellence and take on board comments made by sponsors, the general public and from current and past participants,” she said. SUKI WINS ONE, LOSES ONE – Former world champion Ronald “Suki” King was like a foreigner in his homeland yesterday during his World Three-Move Restriction draughts title match against reigning champion Sergio Scarpetta of Italy at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex. About a dozen supporters were on hand in the classroom setting for the morning session on a day dedicated to visionary educator Professor Sir Hilary Beckles of the University of the West Indies. King won the first game but lost the second to trail 3-1, as up to press time, neither of the two games in the evening session was completed. Trailing 0-2 overnight after the first eight games on Thursday and Friday, the wily King quickly reduced the deficit by winning the ninth game when play resumed on Day 3. (SS)

TRIDENTS LIFT CPL TROPHY WITH IMPRESSIVE VICTORY OVER WARRIORS – Barbados Tridents won their second Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title as Guyana Amazon Warriors’ perfect season unravelled at the worst possible moment. The Warriors had won all 11 matches – including three against the Tridents – before the final, but came off second best in the face of an inspired performance from the Barbados outfit. After Jonathan Carter’s unbeaten 50 off 27 balls led a recovery from 108 for 6 in the 15th over to an imposing 171 for 6 from 20 overs, the Tridents bowled and fielded for their lives to defend the target by 27 runs, restricting the Warriors to 144 for 9 and break their hearts at the last.Raymon Reifer led the way with remarkable figures of four for 24 from his four overs. While the Tridents celebrate a well-deserved and comprehensive victory, the Warriors are left to reflect on a fifth Hero CPL final defeat in seven years. This will perhaps be the toughest to take of all given the flawless season that had preceded it. Chandrapaul Hemraj, apparently struggling with a hamstring injury, could have been run out twice before he was caught at short third-man off Reifer for just a single and things got worse for the Warriors when Shimron Hetmyer holed out to long-on for just nine to give Reifer a second wicket. Shoaib Malik then smashed a long-hop from leading 2019 Hero CPL wicket-taker Hayden Walsh Jr straight to Reifer on the midwicket boundary to leave his side in real trouble at 53 for three. When Brandon King yorked himself and was smartly stumped by Shai Hope off Ashley Nurse for 43, the game had swung decisively the Tridents’ way. With THE FACULTY OF SENSING – Thinking With, Through, and by Anton Wilhelm Amo, Kunstverein Braunschweig has worked in close cooperation with Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung to develop a project in honor of Anton Wilhelm Amo, an outstanding philosopher of the 18th century. On the basis of Amo’s writings and their reception, highly topical issues of referentiality, erasure, and canonization will be discussed.

In a 2013 essay The Enlightenment’s ‘Race’ Problem, and Ours for the New York Times’ philosophy page The Stone, Justin E. H. Smith wonders how and why philosophers like Immanuel Kant or David Hume could afford to be so explicitly racist, at a period when a contemporary of theirs Anton Wilhelm Amo was excelling as a philosopher. The explanation for this can be found in processes of erasure in relation to what Michel-Rolph Trouillot has called ‘Silencing the Past’.

Anton Wilhelm Amo (* around 1700 — † after 1753) is considered to be the first Black academic and philosopher in Germany. His work was largely pushed to the margins and rendered obscure. Amo studied philosophy and law in Halle and positioned himself with his dissertations on the mind-body problem (1734) at the University of Wittenberg and Treatise on the Art of Philosophising Soberly and Accurately (1738) as an early thinker of the Enlightenment.

Anton Wilhelm Amo was abducted from the territory of present-day Ghana as an infant, enslaved, and taken via Amsterdam to Wolfenbüttel at the court of Duke Anton Ulrich. It was here that he began his academic career.

As part of the extensive research and exhibition project, 16 international artists and groups were invited to respond to the philosophical thought of Anton Wilhelm Amo in largely newly produced works. Curatorially, the project develops around questions of Amo’s understanding of the thing-in-itself, the discourse of body and soul, the legal status and recognition of Black people in the 18th century and the present time, transcendental homelessness, the politics of naming, and the narrative and history of the Enlightenment.

Via questions on the environment Anton Wilhelm Amo grew up in and spaces that we still share with him today, Akinbode Akinbiyi embarked on a journey through the region to conduct a photographic search for vestigial remains.

Adama Delphine Fawundu shares this interest in trans-historical connections, working with water as the connecting element that flows through a spatial installation composed of photographs, videos, and an artists’ book. Following Anton Wilhelm Amo’s theory that it is only the living organic body that can feel and that the soul cannot, Kitso Lynn Lelliott has created a videographic portrait of environments from Amo’s life journey in Ghana and Germany. A second chapter tackles the shortcomings of re-enacting from a position of absence. Starting with targeted interrogations that flank the exhibition’s spatial course, Anna Dasović focuses on the empty spaces and deliberate omissions that have shaped Amo’s biography and perception of his work, questioning thereby the prevailing criteria of canonization.

In another form, RESOLVE Collective too have tackled the aporias, gaps, and contradictions that shaped Amo’s life, philosophical oeuvre, and reception of his work. The resulting project Programming Im/Passivity (2020) attempts to translate Amo’s theoretical positions into sensory and artistic processes, with the observers becoming involved as active participants in a workshop-library environment. A newly developed performance by Bernard Akoi-Jackson runs throughout the exhibition in several stages, with visitors again being invited to relate personally to Amo’s work (postponed).

With a room plan made of barbed tape and treated fabrics, Benisiya Ndawoni II (2020) by Lungiswa Gqunta addresses structural violence, migration, and the forced movement of Black people. Questions of exclusion and everyday discrimination are likewise the starting point for the Olivier Guesselé-Garais poem Their Eyes Were Watching Cop, (2015/2020), here reinterpreted in the form of an installation. Claudia Martínez Garay assembles drawings, prints, and paintings into a visual narrative that links back to heritage, displacement, and racism while also referring back to one-sided definitions of modernity and the problematic relationship of Black and Brown bodies to (cultural) institutions. These are issues that have also motivated Patricia Kaersenhout in her artistic and activist practice for many years. As part of the exhibition, Kaersenhout is showing the series While we were Kings and Queens (2020), in which she examines the trauma of a colonial oppression that stands in flagrant contradiction to the proclaimed ideals of the Enlightenment.

In his multimedia installation Decolonizing Knowledge (2020), Adjani Okpu-Egbe bridges the gap between Amo’s work, person, and a proposed alternative canon developed in collaboration with renowned thinkers, academics, and artists.

Direct connections to Anton Wilhelm Amo’s philosophical writings are also found in new works from Antje Majewski and Theo Eshetu. Majewski’s Die Apatheia der menschlichen Seele (2020) takes individual imaginations of the soul and translates them into painting via Amo’s ideas; Amo himself is able to “speak” via quotations in a video work by Eshetu. That Anton Wilhelm Amo’s history is a special but by no means an isolated case is made clear in the 2009 cyanotype series Good Morning Prussia series by Jean-Ulrick Désert, which recalls the fate of one of Amo’s contemporaries.

On the initiative of architect Konrad Wolf, Kunstverein Braunschweig will itself become the Anton Wilhelm Amo Center (2020) for the duration of the FACULTY OF SENSING – Thinking With, Through, and by Anton Wilhelm Amo exhibition, reflecting during this time on processes of strategic renaming over the course of accompanying workshops with Braunschweig Postkolonial and Tahir Della (Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland e.V.).

And finally, the performance collective andcompany&Co. will on April 25 show a collaboration created in cooperation with Staatstheater Braunschweig and streamed live on the Staatstheater’s website. Black Bismarck revisited (again) takes the Africa Conference as a starting point for tracing the consequences of colonialism.

The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive public program of performances, artist talks, workshops, and discussions, which will partly take place online due to current circumstances.

A publication will be produced alongside the exhibition THE FACULTY OF SENSING – Thinking With, Through, and by Anton Wilhelm Amo, linking theoretical and artistic contributions to the exhibition and the symposium.

Theresa May's New Year message: PM says 2018 will bring 'renewed pride' to Britain amid Brexit divisions

Theresa May has said the coming year will bring “renewed confidence and pride” to Britain as she sought to heal Brexit divisions and draw a line under a tumultuous 12 months.

The Prime Minister used her New Year’s message to hail the “good progress” made in the Brexit negotiations but she also made clear that the EU withdrawal was “not the limit of our ambitions”.

After 12 months marred by division over Europe, terror attacks in London and Manchester, cabinet resignations and a calamitous general election result, Ms May acknowledged that “any year brings its challenges”.

However she sought to strike an upbeat tone by hailing it as a “year of progress” for the UK, insisting that the divisions left by EU referendum were in the past as “most people just want the Government to get on and deliver a good Brexit, and that’s exactly what we are doing”.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn used his New Year message to say Labour was on the brink of power, claiming “the old political consensus is finished”.

In a video message from Downing Street, Ms May said: ”Of course any year brings its challenges – that is true for each of us personally, as much as for our country and the world.

“But the real test is not whether challenges come; it’s how you face them.

“Whether you allow a task to overcome you, or tackle it head on with purpose and resolve.”

She went on: “I believe 2018 can be a year of renewed confidence and pride in our country.

“A year in which we continue to make good progress towards a successful Brexit deal, an economy that’s fit for the future, and a stronger and fairer society for everyone.”

In a nod to the sexual harassment scandal that engulfed Westminster in October – claiming the scalps of cabinet ministers Damian Green and Sir Michael Fallon – Ms May said everyone had the “right to be treated with respect” and “that means safe workplaces, free from harassment”.

She also took aim at the torrents of abuse politicians face online, calling for a “public sphere where debate is constructive and courteous, and where we treat each other with decency”.

The 100th anniversary of women being granted the vote should be marked with a “vow to eliminate all prejudice and discrimination from our society”, she said.

Meanwhile, Mr Corbyn used his message to attack the “self-serving elite” and the “failed system” that rewards the rich and makes life harder for ordinary people.

World Cruise Update: Look Who Finally Returned to Sydney Australia

Our first stop in Australia is Sydney and I’m so excited to be back. Our home away from home, Fred. Olsen Cruise Line’s Black Watch, arrived into Sydney in the early morning hours before we awoke. We docked at White Bay Cruise Terminal around 6:45 am and that made our arrival official.

Preparing for Our Day in Sydney Australia

After getting dressed and ready for the day, Danielle and I made our way to Glentaner Restaurant on deck 6 for a quick breakfast. Since we were going to have to pass through immigration and customs in the port, tour guests were permitted off the ship first. Then each deck was sent down. First starboard side or odd numbered cabins followed by port side or even numbered cabins. The lines were long but they did move fairly fast and soon we were out and looking for our ferry.

Now why a ferry? On previous trips to Sydney, I docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal right in the CBD. This time, however, was different as we were now at White Bay Cruise Terminal, which is far outside the city.

The ferry was only a few minutes walk from the cruise terminal with scheduled departures every 30 minutes.

We had just missed the last one and the next one arrived late but what could we do?

While there were a few different boats used for the ferry service, all were clean and easy to use. The ride over was less than ten minutes total.

After the quick ferry boat ride, we finally arrived at King Street Wharf. From there we walked over to Darling Harbour to collect our Big Bus hop on, hop off tickets that we were planning to use day 2 of our stay in Sydney. Then I turned on my Tep Wireless device so I could navigate with Google Maps over to Circular Quay.

Once we got to George Street, I recognized where I was and was able to navigate the short walk over.

I was excited to see Danielle’s expression when she first caught a glimpse of the Sydney Opera House. The first time I saw it, it reminded me of seeing the Grand Canyon. It was something I had always wanted to see, but was far better in person than any pic or video could ever capture. She thought it was smaller than she expected. Crazy girl!

And, of course, we also needed to do a few selfies.

The Rocks

Several photos later and we were now walking up to The Rocks. On the weekends this area is filled with all kinds of vendors selling goods, but we were here during the week so that wasn’t happening unfortunately.

Instead, we looked for other places to shop inside at The Rocks like Spirit Gallery. That meant a morning full of shopping complete with boomerangs, jewelry, t-shirts, and more.

Our next stop was lunch at the Ship Inn. The past two times I’ve visited Sydney, I’ve walked right past this place and yet, I’ve never entered it.

Danielle noticed they had pizza and salads and it seemed like a perfect place for lunch. For her lunch, Danielle ordered a chicken pizza with spicy peppers (capsicum) and caramelized onions but without the chicken or the capsicum and extra mozzarella.

I ordered a pizza with pumpkin, arugula (rocket), pine nuts but no cheese. We were so hungry we were head down in our food and devouring pizza with very little to say to one another.

Off to Bondi Beach

After lunch we had planned on utilizing the Big Bus Hop On, Hop Off passes to get from Circular Quay to Bondi Beach. But after careful consideration, we decided it was easier to get an Uber and get directly to the beach instead of going on the bus for maybe an hour each way. In the end it cost us about $20 AUS each way so I say it was well worth it.

As soon as we got to Bondi Beach, I knew we made the right decision. The sun was hot, the view was spectacular, and I couldn’t wait to dip my toes in the water and the pristine sandy beach.

People were sunbathing, swimming, and surfing and I so wanted to join them. Danielle was insistent that there were sharks in the water, but with lifeguards nearby, I knew it was safe for sure.

We walked along the beach, took some pics and videos, and then walked back up to the boardwalk.

Here we saw a few street artists completing their own artwork among the murals. The art was pretty incredible and it even made me stop and have my pic taken in front of one that looks like my mandala tattoo.

Our next stop was shopping, of course. I definitely wanted a Bondi Beach t-shirt and I ended up with a super soft pink tank. I’m thinking ahead to future ports of call like India when I’m melting like cheese (as Putu in the Lido Bar said I would). Danielle and I also stopped at a convenience store where I picked up some Tim Tams to take home and a souvenir store to see if we could find anything good. Finally, the heat was getting to us so we decided to get an Uber back to King’s Wharf so we could get the ferry back to the ship. Along the way we ran into a friend, stopped for a few drinks, and then climbed back on the ferry to Black Watch. A quick shower, clean clothes, and fresh hair and makeup and we were ready for a night out in Sydney. It was a beautiful night to be out and we enjoyed meeting new people and checking out the Sydney nightlife. But for the fact that our Uber wasn’t allowed in the port and we had to walk from the gate to the terminal at White Bay Cruise Terminal on our own, it was a really good night. Oh and we hadn’t eaten any dinner but for a bag of crisps each, which really wasn’t good for either of us, but that’s what you do when you wing it.

Day Two In Sydney Australia

Wednesday, 28 February 2018 was our second day in Sydney and we wanted to back out there again. We missed breakfast and decided we would try to grab food upon arrival at King’s Wharf. However, with a vegan in tow, finding suitable food for two hungry people isn’t always easy. We walked along Darling Harbour and couldn’t find anything. We decided to retrace our steps from the day before to Circular Quay as we had passed many restaurants along the way.

After walking and checking out menu after menu, Danielle and I both felt like we were going to pass out. But then we stumbled upon the MetCentre on George Street and the most wonderful food court. Can you believe Danielle and I agreed on the same place? We both chose Mad Mex for lunch and it was so good, fresh, and tasty. I had three soft corn tortillas with veggies and black beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole (no sour cream or cheese) and a watermelon Jarritos soda. We sat across from a Vietnamese restaurant and I so wanted to order the tofu bao, but just didn’t have any room left.

After lunch we wandered around the MetCentre as I was in search of a new pair of jeans. We stopped in one store and I tried two pairs on. The first was a pair of high waisted jeans that pretty much came up to my boobs so they were a no go. The second pair were a pair of boyfriend jeans much like the pair I had on so I liked them. But they were cut strangely as the calves were super tight so back they went as well.

Danielle and I decided to walk over to Birdcage Alley, somewhere she had discovered online. It’s on Angel Place and it’s an art installation of 50 birdcages with piped in bird sounds of birds that are no longer around. Guess it’s a reminder of what once was so if you get to visit “Forgotten Songs,” it’s well worth a visit.

A little more souvenir shopping and then Danielle and I decided it was time to consider catching the ferry back to the ship. We stopped at the Sea Life Center store in Darling Harbour where I couldn’t resist another purchase. There was a pair of black and blue Australia flip flops I just had to have. Danielle picked up a few things and shortly thereafter we were back on the ferry to the ship.

Once on the ship, we had a few hours to prepare for our sailaway out of Sydney. I decided to try using the time lapse feature on my new GoPro Hero5 Black. I set it for 1080p and every 10 seconds. We headed up to deck 8 to stake out our share of the railing and to attach our gorilla pods to them. Then we waited for the ship to move. I turned the GoPro on, turned on my iPhone and prepared for sailaway. My iPhone hasn’t backed up since I left the US and it’s now telling me regularly it has no more disk space. So much for talking pics or video on my phone. After sailaway I excitedly checked the GoPro to see I had all of three second video for over a half hour of footage. Aargh. Hoping I can stretch it out once I get home and put it on my desktop.

But luckily someone named Mrs. T captured the entire sailaway on the Sydney webcam. Here you can see the beautiful Black Watch in all her glory in Sydney Harbour. And that’s all she wrote from Sydney. It was a wonderful two days and I really enjoyed my time with my BFF, Danielle, and just being back in Australia. Next post of call is Brisbane so stay tuned!
