Finding the Right Fit: How to Size Your Electric Fireplace for Any Room
Here’s what you need to know to find the perfect fit for your electric fireplace.
Why Size Matters in Electric Fireplaces
Electric fireplaces come in many shapes and sizes, each suited for specific room dimensions. Choosing the right size helps ensure efficient heating and prevents a mismatch between the fireplace’s appearance and the room’s aesthetic.
Step 1: Measure Your Room
To get started, measure the length, width, and height of your room. Room size influences the heating capacity needed from your fireplace. For instance, electric fireplaces with 1,500-watt heating can typically heat up to 400 square feet, making them suitable for medium-sized rooms.
For accurate placement, measure the wall area where you plan to install or place your fireplace. Consider adding a few extra inches around the unit for an unobstructed view and ease of use.
Step 2: Understand Heat Output and Room Coverage
Electric fireplaces are rated by British Thermal Units (BTUs), which measure heating output. Here’s a basic guide to matching BTU output to room size:
Small Rooms (up to 150 sq. ft.): A unit with approximately 2,500 BTUs works well.
Medium Rooms (150-400 sq. ft.): Look for models with about 4,000 to 5,000 BTUs, which is ideal for bedrooms and smaller living rooms.
Large Rooms (over 400 sq. ft.): Select a fireplace with 5,000 BTUs or more to ensure sufficient warmth.
It’s important to keep in mind that electric fireplaces function as supplementary heaters, so if you have a large space or live in a particularly cold climate, you may need additional heating support.
Step 3: Choose the Right Size by Room Type
Different rooms require different fireplace sizes, both in terms of heat output and design. Here’s a breakdown of ideal sizing by room type.
Living Room
The living room is often the largest space in the home and a central gathering place, so consider a statement fireplace that complements the room’s dimensions and layout. Wall-mounted or built-in electric fireplaces work well here, as they can be large and become the focal point of the room.
For a standard living room:
Recommended Size: 50 to 60 inches wide
BTU Output: Around 4,000-5,000 BTUs

"A 1-megawatt sand battery that can store up to 100 megawatt hours of thermal energy will be 10 times larger than a prototype already in use.
The new sand battery will eliminate the need for oil-based energy consumption for the entire town of town of Pornainen, Finland.
Sand gets charged with clean electricity and stored for use within a local grid.
Finland is doing sand batteries big. Polar Night Energy already showed off an early commercialized version of a sand battery in Kankaanpää in 2022, but a new sand battery 10 times that size is about to fully rid the town of Pornainen, Finland of its need for oil-based energy.
In cooperation with the local Finnish district heating company Loviisan Lämpö, Polar Night Energy will develop a 1-megawatt sand battery capable of storing up to 100 megawatt hours of thermal energy.
“With the sand battery,” Mikko Paajanen, CEO of Loviisan Lämpö, said in a statement, “we can significantly reduce energy produced by combustion and completely eliminate the use of oil.”
Polar Night Energy introduced the first commercial sand battery in 2022, with local energy utility Vatajankoski. “Its main purpose is to work as a high-power and high-capacity reservoir for excess wind and solar energy,” Markku Ylönen, Polar Nigh Energy’s co-founder and CTO, said in a statement at the time. “The energy is stored as heat, which can be used to heat homes, or to provide hot steam and high temperature process heat to industries that are often fossil-fuel dependent.” ...
Sand—a high-density, low-cost material that the construction industry discards [Note: 6/13/24: Turns out that's not true! See note at the bottom for more info.] —is a solid material that can heat to well above the boiling point of water and can store several times the amount of energy of a water tank. While sand doesn’t store electricity, it stores energy in the form of heat. To mine the heat, cool air blows through pipes, heating up as it passes through the unit. It can then be used to convert water into steam or heat water in an air-to-water heat exchanger. The heat can also be converted back to electricity, albeit with electricity losses, through the use of a turbine.
In Pornainen, Paajanen believes that—just by switching to a sand battery—the town can achieve a nearly 70 percent reduction in emissions from the district heating network and keep about 160 tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere annually. In addition to eliminating the usage of oil, they expect to decrease woodchip combustion by about 60 percent.
The sand battery will arrive ready for use, about 42 feet tall and 49 feet wide. The new project’s thermal storage medium is largely comprised of soapstone, a byproduct of Tulikivi’s production of heat-retaining fireplaces. It should take about 13 months to get the new project online, but once it’s up and running, the Pornainen battery will provide thermal energy storage capacity capable of meeting almost one month of summer heat demand and one week of winter heat demand without recharging.
“We want to enable the growth of renewable energy,” Paajanen said. “The sand battery is designed to participate in all Fingrid’s reserve and balancing power markets. It helps to keep the electricity grid balanced as the share of wind and solar energy in the grid increases.”"
-via Popular Mechanics, March 13, 2024
--
Note: I've been keeping an eye on sand batteries for a while, and this is really exciting to see. We need alternatives to lithium batteries ASAP, due to the grave human rights abuses and environmental damage caused by lithium mining, and sand batteries look like a really good solution for grid-scale energy storage.

Note 6/13/24: Unfortunately, turns out there are substantial issues with sand batteries as well, due to sand scarcity. More details from a lovely asker here, sources on sand scarcity being a thing at the links: x, x, x, x, x

-----
“One mocha extra whip,” Taehyung called as he scribbled the order down on his small red notepad and ripped the paper handing it to you. You grabbed it easily, stabbed it through the long metal rod holding all the orders, and finished making it.
The weather outside was the classic end-of-November weather, dark and dreary with large gray clouds covering the sky, making it look like it was later in the day than it actually was which had Taehyung starting the electric fireplace early and basking the small café in a warm glow.
You finished with the drink order as the kitchen door slowly opened and Jungkook came out carrying a tray on his left shoulder of freshly made cinnamon buns making the café smell of warm cinnamony goodness.
You made your way over to the serving counter at the end and handed the girl her drink as Taehyung called out another order to you.
“Behind.” You called out to Jungkook as he opened the dessert display case and started loading it.
Cinnamon Bun Friday had become a tradition long before Taehyung opened this café. It had started years ago when you both were still in your small hometown and bored out of your mind on a Friday afternoon after school.
“What do you think the best cinnamon bun tastes like?” He asked you as you both sat at your parent’s kitchen table, you completing your math homework and Taehyung working on his chemistry homework.
“Like heaven. Like gooey heaven that melts in your mouth and warms you from the inside out.” You answered putting your pencil down and rubbing your eyes. Math was always hard for you and you felt like if you didn’t take a break your brain would start to leek out your ears.
“That’s going to be our goal before going to University. I want to find the best cinnamon bun out there.” Taehyung said twirling his pencil through his long fingers.
“It can’t be something easy like cookies? It has to be cinnamon buns?” You teased as you pushed your chair back to get a can of pop for you both to share.
“Everyone does cookies. I want to do something different. If I can’t find it already made, I’ll find a recipe and make it.” He promised.
You still can recall that summer as if it was yesterday. You both graduated high school and were going to the local University. You spent the summer babysitting the neighborhood kids and Taehyung worked in a grocery store bagging items and shamelessly flirting with all the old ladies who would stand in the line no matter how long just to be charmed by him.
In your downtime you and Taehyung spent the summer biking, hitting up the local beach, and of course hunting for the perfect cinnamon bun, and when it was unable to be found you both went online.
After countless attempts and many taste tests, Taehyung seemed to find a recipe that was foolproof and delicious, and thus Cinnamon Bun Friday was formed.
After graduating from University Taehyung announced to both your families that he wanted to use his business degree to open a café in a fairly large city miles from the small town you both had grown up in.
Both sets of parents were pleased until Taehyung announced he wanted to take you with him. Your University experience was the same as his, pouring over books into the late hours of the night, dealing with group projects and exams, and while Taehyung came out of school knowing exactly what he wanted to do you still were unsure so this seemed like the best option.
Your parents were not pleased. They didn’t want their only daughter miles away from home but after much persuasion, they eventually gave in. By the time you were set to move, you were already twenty-four and your parents didn’t have a choice to make you stay.
You were elated!
Taehyung found a two-bedroom apartment and you both moved in. You worked odd jobs while he was getting the café up and running and after a full year of renovations it was open for business and Taehyung had promoted you to second in command.
The café was his dream and it was so exciting to see it come to life. He wanted to go for a modern cozy vibe with dark wood, black and white décor, and appliances. He named it Tae’s Teas even though you did serve coffee, and the cinnamon bun recipe that was created so long ago was the shining star.
“Earl Gray tea double cup.” He calls to you, snapping you from your memories as you grab the paper from him and get to work again.
Taehyung has a computer to cash people out but he liked the aesthetic of writing orders down on a small notepad, handing you the paper, and tucking his pencil or pen behind his ear which usually got lost in his long messy hair. You had to admit it had a sort of charm.
After an hour, the morning rush had died down and you were out from behind the counter cleaning tables.
A couple of customers had set up laptops and were working while sipping their drinks as soft jazz music played in the background.
You cleaned a table by the window and stared outside at the gloomy sky. The clouds were low and heavy and it looked like snow was about to come down any minute.
A white Christmas would be nice.
Taehyung had already told his parents he wouldn’t be home this year for Christmas as the café was still in its early stages and he didn’t want to leave it behind. You agreed to stay with him to keep him company but you knew it would be weird. Your first Christmas without your parents.
The bell above the door chimed and you watched as a group of moms came in with their bulky strollers.
You joined Taehyung at the counter and got to work taking orders with ease, making and serving the drinks in record time.
“You know I think we should change something about our order taking.” He musses as you serve the last customer her tea and wipe the counter down again.
“What do you mean? You’re finally going to get rid of that notepad?” You tease with a sly grin as Taehyung places a hand over his heart dramatically as if you had wounded him.
“Absolutely not it adds to the aesthetic you know that!” He reminds you as he tucks his pen behind his ear and fixes his headband over his messy brown hair.
“What I was going to say, is every time I say an order you should respond with Yes Chef! Like the TV shows do.”
You pause restocking your station and you turn to stare at him.
“Tae you can’t be serious.” You deadpan as he shoots you his signature boxy smile that used to work on all the older ladies at the grocery store. You however have been around him too long and his charms won’t work on you.
“I am not calling you chef. They do that on cooking shows Tae, not in cafes.” You remind him as you restock your sugar and make sure the mini-fridge is still full of milk and creamers shaking your head at his antics.
“Come on I think it will be fun!” He teases grinning as you stand up and shove your cleaning towel in the pocket of your black apron.
“I am most definitely not doing that but maybe Jimin or Jungkook should. They haven’t known you as long as I have I think I should get a pass on this one…. Call it seniority.” You tease as the bell above the door chimes and a group of girls come in all carrying laptop bags.
“What if I say I’ll fire you?” He teases as he walks up to the counter and leans against it shooting the girls a grin and making them dissolve into flirty giggles.
You roll your eyes.
“You’d miss me far too much to ever do that. Also, we said no takebacks when I started this job so you’re stuck with me” You shoot back as the girls are all twirling their hair and giggling behind their hands as Taehyung takes their order with ease. Flipping and spinning the pen on his long fingers making them gasp as if it was the coolest trick ever.
Taehyung calls out the first order and while you work on the drink he opens the display case to get a muffin. The bell above the door rings again but you are so busy making all these complex drinks it becomes background noise until you hear Tae’s worried voice.
“Uh… Y/N.” He says as you turn to face him nearly scalding your hand with the beverage.
“Yes, Chef?” You answer sweetly batting your eyelashes, but you stop in your tracks and stand still when you see who entered the café.
“Oh fuck.” You mutter as you take in the newest customer… the guy who asked for your number over a month ago and then never texted you, seemingly turning into a ghost or a mirage of sorts.
Kim Namjoon.
He stood tall with his hair covered by a dark navy beanie and his cheeks pink from the cold. He looked as gorgeous as he did the very first day he stepped foot in here and you had to take his order because Taehyung was in the back dealing with something.
“Go to the back Y/N,” Taehyung whispers as he takes another giggling girl’s order and you curse when you realize you have overfilled the drink you were making because you were so distracted by Namjoon entering the shop.
So he wasn’t a ghost. He wasn’t part of your imagination. He was real. He was handsome, and he seemed to be scanning the shop and looking for you.
“I’m fine it’s fine.” You stammered voice high and panicked as you tried to focus on the task in front of you.
Taehyung called another order and you got to work again, feeling your stomach fill with nerves but also anger as you made the drink chanting under your breath that it was going to be fine that everything was fine.
Namjoon entered the shop in October and you were immediately captivated by him. He was tall and handsome and when he smiled, god when he smiled, the most beautiful dimples appeared on his cheeks making him somehow even more beautiful if that was even possible. You still remembered his order, Coffee with one sugar and one cream.
Your hand shook when you served it to him and your heart beat wildly in your chest when your hand accidentally grazed his as you handed him the cup. He decided to take up residence in your small café, choosing to sit at a table near the window under the fake red and orange leaves Jimin had decided to put up to get in the Autumn theme.
He stayed for over an hour reading a small paperback, sipping his drink, and occasionally looking at you which had you blushing and stammering.
Taehyung had urged you to get his number saying Namjoon also couldn’t keep his eyes off you and just as you were about to pluck up the courage Namjoon surprised you by coming up to the counter and asking for your number himself.
He said you were just so beautiful and kind and if you were single he would like to get to know you better, maybe take you out on a date. You shakily put your number in his phone and held your breath when he shot you that dimpled smile and then he was out the door pulling his jacket down over his hands to ward off the chill and you felt like you were in a romantic comedy with how perfect the whole thing was.
Well, the comedy part was correct because you waited hours, then days, then weeks, and no message from Namjoon.
“Ouch Shoot!” You cried out as you burned your hand holding down the button for the hot water too long and overflowing the small ceramic cup Taehyung insisted on buying for “aesthetic reasons”
“Go to the back Y/N send Jimin out, you're going to hurt yourself” Taehyung demanded as you could feel Namjoon’s intense stare from across the room. You gave up and left, throwing open the door to the kitchen and scaring Jungkook and Jimin.
Jimin was sitting on one of the prep tables, brown hair held back by a knit cap, swinging his feet happily and staring at his phone. Meanwhile, Jungkook was dressed all in black rolling out more dough for cinnamon buns and occasionally looking up when Jimin would show him a funny video he found.
“Jimin get out there and help Tae will you?” You barked as he slid off the counter and rushed to the front, throwing open the door and joining Taehyung. You held your scalded hand and went over to the large kitchen sink and ran it under some cold water to ease the burn.
You closed your eyes and tried slow deep breaths as the water rushed over your hand.
Why the hell would he come back here after ghosting you
What gives him the right to do that?
And what gives him the right to come in here looking so good?
“Everything okay?” Jungkook asks in a small voice as you turn your head to see him rolling out more dough for the cinnamon buns. He was assigned head baker by Taehyung, and made them so many times you wondered if he even needed the sacred recipe anymore.
“Fine. Kook. Just fine.” You bit out instantly regretting the attitude you were giving him as the pain in your hand started to subside and you felt like you could breathe again.
“Taehyung hardly sends Jimin out front, I know he likes being out there with you so what happened?” He prods as the timer on the oven goes off and Jungkook wipes his hands on his apron and grabs the big black oven mitts to take a fresh batch of buns from the oven.
“Tae likes having Jimin out there.” You argue as you turn off the water to inspect your hand. The skin is red but it doesn’t hurt as much anymore.
“Yeah he likes having Jimin out there but they hardly get anything done which is why he prefers you. You keep him in line.” Jungkook teases setting the tray down and taking off the mits mixing the glaze with ease.
Even though Jungkook has been working with you for a year, can be shy and very quiet but he is a great listener. He doesn’t prod for information or make you tell him things he just goes about his work and if you confide in him you confide in him. You think that’s why he was hired on right away. He just has this calm chill aura about him which perfectly contrasts Taehyung’s hyper energy and Jimin’s chaotic energy.
“I- Well do you remember Namjoon.” You start as Jungkook nearly drops the bowl he is holding and stares at you with wide eyes.
“He’s here?” Jungkook asks as you nod.
“Yeah, he just walked in. I wasn’t paying attention and burnt my hand overfilling a cup. I told Taehyung the cup size was too small when he ordered them.” You hissed as Jungkook put the bowl down and raced to the kitchen door.
“Hey! Get back here don’t be so obvious!” You moan as he raises himself on his tiptoes to gaze out the rectangular window.
“Wow. Y/N he's…wow. He’s handsome.” Jungkook says as he steps away from the door and you can see a light blush on his cheeks.
“You're not supposed to tell me that Kook I’m supposed to hate how he ghosted me.” You whine as Jungkook gets back to work.
“I mean he is a jerk. Getting your hopes up and not bothering to text you.” Jungkook says as you bury your face in your hands.
Something you didn’t tell anyone is how embarrassing it was for you. You watched multiple girls have instant crushes on Taehyung throughout your time in school, even going as far as to slander you just to get close to him. You watched other girls in your high school and even University flirt with many people at once and go on all these dates and be asked out seemingly all the time it just never seemed to happen to you.
You got lucky with your ex-boyfriend you dated in University as you both just happened to be a part of the same friend group and clicked. You dated for a total of five months before you both amicably broke it off due to being too busy with school for each other.
Since then you had crushes of course but they always fizzled out or the guy didn’t like you back. Namjoon was the first guy to make a move. To approach you and want to get to know you, as someone who never had much romantic experience you were elated someone even noticed you at all.
So when he ghosted it hurt. You shouldn’t have put so much pressure on it but it was almost like you couldn’t help it. It was like finding a cinnamon bun recipe you thought would finally work out. That all the research and strife would be worth it, then it turns out to be a total disappointment. It just hurts
“Did he break your heart? Cause if so….” Jungkook trailed off shooting the buns he was glazing a menacing look.
“Nah it’s okay Kook he’s not worth it.” You sigh.
The door to the kitchen opens and your head snaps up to see Jimin standing there with a sly grin on his face and your stomach twists nervously.
“Oh Y/N…” He sings out.
“Your man wants to talk to you. And is very kindly refusing to leave if you don’t come out of hiding and hear him out. Oh, and Taehyung already threatened to call the police. Twice.” Jimin says as you let out a long frustrated sigh and run your hands down your weary face.
“Taehyung can’t just kick him out?” You growl as Jimin shakes his head with a frown.
“He did technically buy something and is a customer. It would look bad if Tae kicked him out. Please go speak to him before Taehyung kills him with the absolute dirtiest looks he is shooting him.” Jimin pleads as he grabs the tray of buns Jungkook just finished and heads back out to fill the display case again.
“I know how to box I could just kick him out of here.” Jungkook reminds you as you smile and shake your head.
“Nah we need our head bakers knuckles in tact. I’ll talk to him.” You sigh fixing your ponytail and smoothing down your apron.
You leave the kitchen as Taehyung turns to face you with a grimace.
“I tried to tell him to get lost but he bought something. That asshole is sitting in the corner waiting for you.” Taehyung hisses as you look over his shoulder and sure enough, see Namjoon sitting at the same seat he did a month ago sipping on a coffee looking small and for some reason nervous.
“It’s fine Tae. He will probably give me some lame excuse and then you can kick him out.” You say patting his shoulder as you walk by and walk up to Namjoon’s table.
His eyes lock with yours over his cup and he hastily puts it down nearly spilling the whole thing on himself in the process. You weren’t sure what went down while you were hiding out in the kitchen but it was clear Taehyung made him nervous.
Good.
“Hi Y/N.” He says softly motioning for you to sit in the chair across from him as he sets his cup down.
“Nah I think I’ll stand thanks.” You bite out as Namjoon’s eyes widen and he begins to fidget with his clothes and runs his hands through his hair.
“I, yeah okay I deserve that.” He mutters as you cross your arms over your chest and stare down at him.
He coughed and cleared his throat and you waited for him to do something, to say something.
“Listen Namjoon I’m kind of at work right now so if you want to tell me why you are here and hurry this along that would be great.” You remarked as Namjoon reached for his cup again but decided against it and instead tapped his fingers along the tabletop.
“I-I’m sorry I thought I would just come in here and apologize and I built up the courage and everything this morning but I’m well… I’m nervous.” He admits and you hate to say it but you feel for him.
Confrontation was never your strong suit so you wondered why he would bother coming in here at all. Staying away would be the easier option.
“Namjoon if you didn’t like me or thought you made a mistake you should have just stayed gone. It would have been a lot less work than coming in here.” You point out giving up and finally pulling out the chair to sit down.
“No that’s the problem I do like you! I-shit. I got your number and went to a work meeting right after. I work in music as a producer and they are super strict about no phones in meetings. They announced I would be flying to Korea that night to work on some music for some big names, as I was about to enter the car to head to the airport my phone fell out of my pocket and into a sewer grate. And I know it sounds like a fake made-up story but I have a habit of being clumsy. It’s so bad that they didn’t even give me a new phone until I was settled in Korea. I was there for a month and my backup wasn’t working to restore my contacts so I had to have my friend Yoongi give me his phone so I could manually put them all back in. I lost almost everything including your number and I had no way to reach you.” He says pulling out his phone to show you.
The phone did look new and had a massive bulky case on it.
“They gave me a giant case that way if I drop it, well it has less of a chance of going to a ninja turtle.” He jokes dimples popping out making your heart beat fast.
“I just got back yesterday and genuinely I am so sorry. My company scolded me so many times for losing phones, keys, and clothes it’s a running joke within the company to give me nothing important in case I lose it.” He explains.
“The day I saw you I meant everything I said. You are beautiful and you are someone I would like to get to know better I just had no way of contacting you being so far away. I didn’t even get your last name so I couldn’t look you up. Believe me, I tried.” He said.
You sat in the chair and took it all in. Even though you didn’t know Namjoon he did look genuine.
“Namjoon you have to understand I- I get what happened but it still hurt you know. I…well I kind of got my hopes up and then you just disappeared.” You admit as he rubs the back of his neck and looks defeated.
“I know and again I am so sorry. I want to do it right so can I give you my number and we can start this all over? I will even reintroduce myself if that’s what it takes.” He shoots you a grin that makes your heart flutter.
“You can stand at the counter and I can pretend like we have never met.” He says smiling as you shake your head and reluctantly take your phone out of your apron and slide it to him.
“I won’t make you do that but yes put your number in. Make sure you put in the right one I don’t want to do this again.” You warn as he nods and carefully puts his number in bringing the phone close to his face to make sure he has it right.
“There we go. Now text me so we can make sure it works” He says as you send him a smiley face emoji and within seconds it appears on his screen.
“I gotta ask though. Why come back here? You had two conversations with me I mean. It would have been easier to just never come back and take the loss.” You ask as Namjoon pockets his phone but still looks nervous.
“Honestly I’m not sure. I’m not saying that to be rude or anything I know we only had two conversations but there was something about you. Just your kindness and the way you smiled, something told me you are someone I should get to know. I didn’t want to ignore those feelings. And if we are both still single I don’t see why not.” He says as you crack a smile and also pocket your phone.
“You are still single, right? Cause the guy at the counter looks about two seconds away from socking me in the mouth. Jealous boyfriend?” He asks as you turn in your seat to see Taehyung shooting absolute daggers at Namjoon.
You scowl at him and wave your hands signaling him to stop and he throws his hands up and walks away busying himself with cleaning the glass of the display case.
“Definitely not a boyfriend. More of a family friend who I grew up with and when we graduated from University he wanted to open this café and we moved here. We co-own it. No romance at all.” You assure Namjoon as he lets out a sigh of relief and you can’t help but grin.
“That’s very good to know. I’d hate it if I lost out on someone as great as you. Especially giving me a second chance and all.” Namjoon says finally taking a sip of his drink as the bell above chimes as some customers leave, pulling their hoods up to ward off the snow.
You gasp and stare outside as giant flakes fall from the sky. The wind picked up so they fall slightly sideways and are starting to accumulate on the ground blanketing everything in a soft white. No matter what age you are there is something magical about the first snow.
“Guys! The first snow come look!” You call out as Taehyung turns to look over his shoulder and the kitchen door bursts open as Jimin and Jungkook look, happy smiles painted across their faces.
Other customers seem to watch the snow after hearing your outburst and normally you would be embarrassed about being so vocal about it but when Namjoon smiles at the pure awe on your face you can’t help but feel anything but elation.
“It sure is magical. I know in a month I will be cursing the cold and the snow but this right here. Pure magic. I could watch it for hours.” You sigh happily resting your hand under your chin to prop your head up.
“It really is beautiful.” Namjoon comments as you let out a dreamy sigh and finally pull your gaze away.
“So I guess I should get back to work. Thank you for coming all this way to clear things up.” You say starting to stand as Namjoon’s hand reaches out to stop you before you can leave.
“I uh. Yeah, I’m glad we cleared that up but I kind of…well…. there’s more.” He says as you sit back down feeling the ball of dread in your stomach appear again, the magic of the first snow forgotten.
“I-Uh. Well you see here’s the thing….” He starts once again fidgeting at the table.
The bell above the door chimes and chimes as a whole slew of customers come in using the café as a safe space to get out of the snow that is starting to come down harder.
“Y/N!” Taehyung calls, eyes wide at how many customers showed up in such a short amount of time. People were suddenly fighting for space and the calm and quiet of the café was now filled with mumbling and shuffling of feet.
“Namjoon I have to go back to work Tae needs me.” You say as you start to stand and Namjoon stammers standing up as well.
“Jungkook more cinnamon buns! Y/N please!” Taehyung begs as as the line seems to get longer and everyone is shoving for space.
You pull away from the table and from Namjoon as you hurry to retie your apron.
“Y/N I kind of well... Will you come to a wedding with me in December? Like in three weeks. I kind of volunteered you by accident. I’m sorry!” He blurts out looking anxious and panicked.
You stop in your tracks and turn to face him, face red and heart pounding in your chest. There i no way you heard that correctly
Right?
Taehyung is still calling for you.
Jimin races from the kitchen to help eyes wide and panicked.
The customers are all chatting and making so much noise there is no way you heard Namjoon right? There is no way he asked you to go to a wedding with him when you didn’t even go on a first date with him.
Right?

Berenice Abbott at 18 rue Servandoni
The portrait on the cover of Julia Van Haaften's 2018 biography "Berenice Abbott: A Life in Photography" and at the top of Abbott's wiki page is by an unknown photographer. It was taken for the small newspaper Paris-Midi, published June 14, 1928. Keystone France agency, and now Getty owns the rights and incorrectly dates it as 1927, while Wikipedia dates it as "1930s."
At the time, her studio was at 18 rue Servandoni in Paris, we see the fireplace and door in the background in other portraits, such as the portrait of James Joyce's daughter, Lucia. There's a classic Atget at 15 rue Servandoni, but it's from 1903-4. Atget died in 1927 and Abbott, along with Julien Levy, saved his archive. By 1930 she was in New York City, where Walker Evans made his great portrait of her.
Van Haaften writes that in search of lower rent, Abbott moved to the rue Servandoni studio in early 1928. Abbott kept a clipping of the newspaper, but there's no further detail about the portrait session in the biography.
I was curious about the photographer of the portrait and found Getty has a handful of other frames from the same session that I'd never seen.
Most interesting of those frames is this contemplative shot showing the windows of her studio, maybe some photo chemicals on the table. A puff of smoke emanates from Abbott's cigarette in the same place where someone has left their fingerprint on the negative or print. There's a strong reflection or light leak in the top left corner of the frame. Van Haaften describes the rue Servandoni studio offering "beautiful north light."
Looking at the building on Google Earth, there is one north-facing spot that has the large windows similar to the 1928 portrait, seen in the center of the screen grab below.
Another detail Van Haaften mentions is that it took Abbott months to install electricity. An electric spotlight is on a tripod behind Abbott in the standing portrait. In the alternate angle you can see a not-to-code wire dangling.
So, who made these portraits? The Keystone France agency was an off-shoot of a popular stereoview company based in Meadville, Pennsylvania, hence "keystone." If you've ever flipped through old stereoviews at a vintage shop, you recognize this brand. The French agency was founded by Alexandre Garai in 1927 (whose brother Bertram started a related Keystone in London in 1914). The Met has one photograph by Alexandre Garai, taken in 1927. The jpeg is tiny, but indicates a modern perspective. While it's possible Garai is the photographer, his brother's ethos seems to have been to be the boss ... and never touch a camera.
The identity could be buried deep in Getty's London warehouse, which stores 80 million photographs and negatives. When these frames were scanned and metadata added to Getty in 2010-2016, if there was a name on the back of the prints, it probably would have been added then.
From the photos themselves, it's difficult to say if Abbott had a rapport or was familiar with the photographer: her default intensity is remarkably consistent her entire life, up until the last portrait of her in 1991.
(left, rue Servandoni 1929, right: Hank O'Neal, Berenice Abbott, Last Portrait, Monson, Maine July 17, 1991)
From the resolution, the depth of field on the lens, these are probably shot with a 4x5 or larger camera. It looks like the photographer shot the lens wide open, the camera in the standing portraits looks very much in focus, while Abbott's face looks slightly out of focus.
Two of the four frames have similar damage, could be a development problem, but could be mold later while in storage. Abbott's Paris portraits of the period were shot on glass (as much of Atget's body of work was), though by the late 1920s glass plates had mostly been replaced by film. Annoyingly, Getty is one of the best places online to see her Paris portraits, but the Steidl book is highly recommended. Seen together, you realize why Man Ray felt threatened, or at least annoyed, by his former assistant.
The photographer was either challenged or in a challenging environment. Abbott was often a withering critic, one can imagine a green photographer shows up to make portraits and encounters a prickly subject. With the seated portrait above, at first glance, I thought maybe the print has a piece torn out of the left side? Or is it a modern lamp intruding on the composition?
It's difficult to tell with the window portrait how much of it is a metering mistake or the potential development issue, but it looks several stops overexposed to be of use in publication of that time. Today, with our phone cameras taking three frames and digitally merging exposure, we can romanticize the top half of her body dissolving into the light is as the "magic of film."
I'm calling this the "last" frame of the session, based only on the fact that her pose and facial expression has shifted from intensity to a mix of boredom and exasperation. The photographer told her to sit on the day bed with tea and a book, "look relaxed," but she wants nothing to do with it.

how you shine for me
pairing: jungkook x female reader
summary: you and jungkook finally take that next step, that next milestone in your relationship: moving in together.
genre/tags: established relationship, fluff, moving in together, humor (that i failed badly at)
word count: 3.2k
a/n: i wrote this as a comfort read for a friend who went through a rough time, hence the attempt at humor. i also wrote this for myself as a way to grieve the passing of my pet lab of 10 years. who knew one could write such a bad comedy lol
With a huff and a grunt, Jungkook placed the last box on the floor. He looks at you, the love of his life, laser-focused on examining different picture frames from a different box, other contents piled in front of you on the carpet.
“Okay, I think that’s the last of the boxes.”
You looked up and gave Jungkook his favorite sunny smile, “You must be tired, baby. Sit down first.”
Jungkook did just that and took a long look at you. You were smiling at the picture frame you held in your hands.
“Do you remember the day we first met, Jungkookie?”
“Of course I do, love. You were instantly whipped for me, I could tell.”
You threw daggers at him with your eyes. Jungkook’s lips curled into a small snicker.
“If I remember correctly, it was you who was whipped for me,” you pouted. God, how Jungkook loved seeing you so cutely dejected.
“Yeah, if you count that time I had to carry you to Hobi’s car because you were too drunk to walk on your own two feet.”
“We were at a party, Jungkook. We were supposed to drink and have fun,” you defended.
“And you are a very graceful person when drunk. You even told me… what was it?”
Your lips parted, watching Jungkook recall what it was that you said during your drunken state five years ago. But you knew all too well that Jungkook didn’t forget. He never let you forget.
“Don’t say it, I swear–”
“I like your stupid face. It’s so stupid, so… I like it. Can I touch it?”
You threw Jungkook a scrunched-up silk scarf that was right beside you. Jungkook tried to hold his giggles as he caught the scarf with his hand.
“And do you remember what I told you, babe?”
You groaned as you hid your face in your hands.
“You should really learn how to hold your liquor, ___,” Jungkook sing-songed.
You were turning beet red while Jungkook was reveling in your embarrassment. Loving you with all his heart will always be his first priority, but teasing you came in close at second place.
“I never should’ve asked you in the first place, you’re so annoying.” You went back to gathering the rest of your picture frames.
Jungkook leaned in to peck you on the lips, “And you love me,” before kissing you once more on the cheek.
“I do love you, you dork.” you smiled.
“Good. Okay, rest time is over, put me to work, ___. Which of these boxes do you want me to attack first because this whole thing,” Jungkook moved his arms in a circular motion, referring to the assortment of boxes and items all over the floor, “Does not spark joy at all.”
You chuckled as you asked Jungkook if he could start putting up the paintings on the walls.
After a year of dilly-dallying and dating, you and Jungkook decided to take the next step of commitment and have been in a relationship for the past four years. It was only recently that you both decided to move in together because money had been hard to come by. When Jungkook got promoted at his office job and you started earning more since your online business kicked off, you both started saving up for a home of your own, no questions, no doubt.
Until hard work paid off.
Apartment hunting hadn’t been easy because the cost of living in Seoul wasn’t too friendly and you had to compromise on your wishlist here and there. When you and Jungkook stepped foot into the apartment you now both own, Jungkook knew it was the perfect one; floor to ceiling windows, a small electric fireplace, and a bathtub, which you really wanted.
Before arriving with the movers, Jungkook saw how you were full of giddiness at finally having a place to call home. A shared and private space with the woman he loves the most, the cause of his euphoria– Jungkook couldn’t ask for more.
After arranging the picture frames, you started to unpack bathroom essentials.
“Hey, Jungkookie?”
Jungkook with his tongue slightly jutted, was concentrating on hanging the last painting, “Yeah babe?”
“Promise me to never leave the toothpaste cap open? I heard the strongest couples can’t handle that.”
Jungkook chuckled at your candidness, “I won’t, I promise.” He saw the ghost of a smile pass through your lips before he watched you walk to the bathroom with a box of toiletries in your arms.
“Do you need some help?” Jungkook offered
“I got this, babe. Thank you for putting up the paintings,” you gave him that smile he fell in love with the day he met you— serene, calm, reassuring.
You and Jungkook spent another two hours moving stuff into different corners of the apartment. After doing a few kitchen repairs, Jungkook finally arrived at the last box. Inside was an assortment of candles and bath bombs– your favorite items. Since Jungkook was very particular to different kinds of scents, he also had a higher tendency to become allergic to overpowering ones. Thankfully, you had a particular taste and are almost a creature of habit because you almost never change your preferences. Jungkook made a mental note to buy you a new jar of your favorite Diptyque Baies Candle the next time you go out shopping because the one you had now was almost running out.
“Babe, where do you want me to put–”
When Jungkook turned around to face you, he saw you curled up on the couch, fast asleep. You had an arm tucked underneath your head while the other hand loosely held a small duster that was about to fall to the carpet. Jungkook quietly walked over and knelt beside you. He pushed away a stray strand of hair that fell over your eye as he whispered, “Adorable.”
Jungkook carefully carried you bridal style to the queen-sized bed in the bedroom, the one he hopes you both share the rest of your lives. Not being able to resist, Jungkook joined you on the bed and pulled you towards his chest. You slightly stirred and groaned.
Jungkook whispered, “Sleep well, my love,” and before he knew it himself, his eyes drooped, and fell asleep cradling you in his arms.
Sleeping with you in his arms is always Jungkook’s favorite part of his day. After long, mundane days at his corporate job, all he wants is to come home, eat ramen on lazy nights while watching bad reality TV, and sleep. Since he met you, nights have become more interesting. Jungkook now has someone to eat ramen with, plus you make a mean kimchi and cheese kimbap. The sex was always mind-blowing and the loving whispers in the night and cuddles that came after are both your guilty pleasures.
The warmth of your body, hair that smelled of white strawberry and sweet mint shampoo always lulled Jungkook to sleep. Knowing that you were safely tucked in his arms made him feel that the world was his for the taking– comforting, quietly powerful.
You stirred as you slowly opened your eyes, adjusting to the surroundings. You were fairly sure that you fell asleep on the couch and the closet in front of you certainly wasn’t the fireplace.
The moment you realized you were in literal darkness, you suddenly sat upright on the bed. You tried to feel around the bed for your phone, but you remembered yet again that this wasn’t the place where you fell asleep. Another realization dawned on you as something hard and warm made itself known, but you couldn’t make out what it was. It? Damn your eyesight for being such a nuisance.
Jungkook was still asleep beside you. He stirred a bit when you tried to shake him awake. For once, you were grateful Jungkook had always been a light sleeper.
“Baby, it’s dark outside,” you hissed.
Jungkook shifted, squinting as he lifted his head to look out the window. With a plop, he allowed his head to sink back into the pillow once more.
“I can see that, baby. The night usually comes after the day,” Jungkook stated matter-of-factly, sleep evident in his voice.
You smacked the side of Jungkook’s leg, “It’s dark outside, you brat–”
“Hey, ow! Why’d you hit me? I was only stating a fact,” Jungkook forced himself to sit up and rubbed his eyes, “What time is it?”
“I don’t know, you tell me,” you responded, folding your arms.
Jungkook grabbed his phone that was on the nightstand and checked the time: half-past one o’clock in the morning.
“Oh, it’s the middle of the night,” Jungkook stated. You leaned over to check the time on Jungkook’s phone before smacking him on the arm.
“Ow! What did I do now?”
“I can’t believe we fell asleep. How long were we out? How did I even get here?”
“Well, let's see, you fell asleep around noon and I carried you to our bed because the couch looked uncomfortable. Geez, you’re so cranky when you wake up in the middle of the night– not that you often wake up during this ungodly hour but–”
“How can I not be when we missed dinner? We overslept–”
“And it’s not a big deal, love. We were hauling in so many boxes all day. You were tired, we both were. Besides, it’s now Sunday. It’s our rest day,” When Jungkook saw you pout, he chuckled.
“What?” you asked.
“Are you seriously upset that we overslept?” Jungkook teased.
“No, it’s just that–” You sighed, letting his arms fall to his lap, “We missed dinner and I think we weren’t done unpacking everything yet.”
Jungkook fondly chuckled once more before wrapping his arms around your torso and kissing your temple.
“Silly baby. We unpacked all the boxes already and there’s only one left to unpack. We can do that tomorrow. As for dinner… that one I’m not so sure about. I don’t remember packing any food for the fridge yet.”
“Yeah, that’s because we were supposed to do grocery shopping after we unpacked all the boxes.”
“We can do grocery shopping in a few hours.”
“But we don’t have anything to eat right now,” you said and right on cue, you both heard a stomach growling.
Jungkook grabbed your hand and stood up from the bed.
“What are you doing?”
“Come on, you’re hungry.”
“Jeon Jungkook, what are you planning?”
Jungkook didn’t reply as he pulled you towards the front door. You turned his head in the direction of the window and his eyes widened.
“Jungkook, the houses outside are covered in snow.”
“Yes, baby, because it’s winter season,” Jungkook deadpanned as he put on your snowshoes for you.
“It’s one in the morning and there’s snow. Where the hell are you taking me?”
“Aish, we’re going to find something to eat.”
“I’m pretty sure all the restaurants are closed by now.”
Jungkook took off your puffer jacket from the coat rack and put it on you, zipping the front zipper up to your neck. Mittens came next and Jungkook gently guided your fingers through the holes, all the while you looked at him in silent adoration. He was at least grateful you weren’t resisting. You trust him with your whole life.
He held you by the shoulders and leaned back to take a look before muttering, “Cozy.”
Jungkook intertwined his fingers with yours as he opened the main door to the building outside. Cool air bit at your faces as you shivered.
“Shit, it's freezing. Seriously Jungkook, we could’ve just ordered take-out.”
“And miss out on an adventure in the dead of night in the middle of a potential snowstorm? Never.” Jungkook grinned as he led you a few steps down the block to their right.
The streets were quiet and still as the two lovers trudged through the snow. You could feel Jungkook tightening his grip around your gloved hand as you both approached a store with an almost blinding light.
A convenience store.
It never even crossed your mind and you wanted to kick yourself.
Jungkook pushed the door open and a small bell sound rang. The person behind the cashier bowed and greeted him. Jungkook led you to one of the small tables located inside and sat you down.
“Alright, babe, the usual order?” When Jungkook got a proper look at your face, it was that of confusion and awareness at the same time. “It never crossed your mind that a convenience store is actually open 24/7, huh?”
“Shush! How did you even know that–”
“Five years being with you, I gained the ability to hear what you’re thinking, you know that, right?”
You opened your mouth to protest, but no sound came out. Jungkook giggled as he pinched your cheek.
“You’re cold. Ramen will do the trick. I’ll be right back.”
When Jungkook came back, he set down an array of different foods that made your eyes bulge– two big cups of ramen, samgak-kimbap, hot bars, and gamdongran. Jungkook also bought banana and strawberry milk.
When you were still dating during their first year, there were nights when you had to work overtime just to get orders done and delivered the next day. Jungkook would help you pack and tie ribbons to the parcels and in the middle of doing so, both your stomachs would rumble. The convenience store down the street from the apartment saved you in more ways than one. In that little pyonijom did you and Jungkook’s love story slowly blossom. It was in the benches outside that Jungkook learned how you were deathly afraid of spiders. In between cups of ramen and tteokbokki, you confessed your love for each other through innocent touches and hand-holding.
Years down the line, Jungkook continues to find ways to show you his love.
“What do you think? Do you forgive me?”
“You’re bribing me with food again.”
“That doesn’t sound so bad.”
Jungkook’s eyes crinkled the moment you looked up from your ramen to glare at him. Using his thumb, he reached out to wipe a stripe of soup stain from the corner of your lips.
“Stop doing that.”
Jungkook took a big bite on the samgak-kimbap, “Doing what?”
You stared at Jungkook who was chewing his food, doe eyes innocent as ever.
“Stop making me blush.”
Jungkook chuckled, “You love it.”
The flush on your cheeks told Jungkook he succeeded.
“You didn’t answer my question, baby.”
“No.”
“I fed you.”
“Doesn’t matter.”
“You’re cruel. Let’s see who gives in when we come home later,” Jungkook wiggled his eyebrows and that got a laugh out of you.
“You're impossible,” you said.
Jungkook fell silent as he looked out the glass windows. His mouth slightly parted, but no sound came out. His eyes flitted between you and the windows, before slightly leaning forward across the table.
“Sweetheart, close your eyes.”
“What in the world–”
“Trust me.”
“You’ve been testing my trust since we woke up.”
Jungkook clicked his tongue, feigning annoyance, “Please?”
“What is this about–”
“I promise this one’s really worth it.”
“Fine,” you sighed as you placed his chopsticks on top of the ramen bowl and closed your eyes.
“Are your eyes closed? Sure you don’t see anything?”
“Yes, they are closed.”
Jungkook stood up and gently tugged on your arm, silently telling you to stand up, too.
“Don’t open your eyes until I tell you to, okay?”
You nodded. Jungkook took a long look at you before cupping your face into his hands and giving you a light kiss on your pink lips.
“What’s happening, Jungkook?”
“You’ll see.”
Jungkook slowly turned you in the direction of the front door. He put a hand over your eyes just to make sure you weren’t peeking. Jungkook pushed the door open and together, both of you walked with legs getting tangled every now and then, your back against Jungkook’s chest.
You wanted to say something in protest yet again as the cold winter air began to overtake your body once more, but you felt Jungkook wrap his arm tighter around you, his lips placing small kisses from your neck down to your shoulders.
“Baby, it’s cold,” you tried your best not to shiver too much, but Jungkook’s arm around your waist held you closer, his head resting on your shoulder.
“Does this feel a bit better?” Jungkook asked, breathing warmly as he whispered against your ear.
“Yes, much better,” you replied, trying to steady your nerves.
Jungkook continued to whisper, “Are you ready baby?”
You nodded, at a loss for words, “Three, two, one…” Slowly, Jungkook removed the hand that was covering your eyes.
As you opened them, you saw light, falling snow.
“We didn’t get to witness the first snow together this year. I know it means a lot to you because it’s been our tradition, but I hope this one would cheer you–”
You turned around to face Jungkook and pulled him into a deep kiss. Jungkook melted into your touch as he kissed you back.
In the freezing winter, you and Jungkook felt warm wrapped up in each other’s embrace.
When you pulled away, he was breathless. Jungkook ran his thumb across your cheek, softly smiling at you.
“I love you, Jungkook. Thank you.”
“I only want to make you happy, baby. I love you too,” Jungkook whispered against your forehead before giving you a feather-light kiss.
Stumbling back into the darkness of your apartment, you and Jungkook didn’t want to pull away from one another as you continued to kiss. Jungkook felt you smile and giggle as he wiggled your coats and shoes off. When you finally pulled away from each other, Jungkook leaned back slightly to look at you. The light from the window illuminated your face, Jungkook was so enamored he felt he was going to burst out of love for you.
He quietly held your hand and led you to the kitchen. He stopped walking backward when you were in front of the refrigerator.
“Are you still hungry, baby? Only a few hours left until we go grocery shopping.”
Jungkook didn’t respond but instead opened the refrigerator door. The soft blue light from inside provided a bit more light to the rest of the apartment.
Jungkook pulled you closer to him, one arm caging around your waist. You were quick to catch on to what he was trying to do.
“____, have I told you how much I love you?”
You rested your head on Jungkook’s shoulder as he quietly led you both into a slow hum, a slow dance under the refrigerator light.
“Every day, Jungkook-ah. I feel loved by you every single day since I met you,” you whispered against Jungkook’s chest.
Jungkook’s eyes closed as a gentle smile spread across his face. Loving you felt freeing, resplendent. The kind of love that healed all his broken hallelujahs.
“My heart has always dreamed of you, sweetheart. I’m so happy I get to love you like this.”
“Thank you for loving me. For protecting my heart, Jungkook,” you muttered as you lifted your head to look at Jungkook.
Jungkook just smirks and you roll your eyes because you can read him like a book.
"And thank you for taking me to the convenience store," you say as you smack his chest. "You big oaf."
Jungkook's laugh echoes through the quiet room, “Always, baby." He leans closer to whisper against your lips so softly, so reverently, "As long as it's you, I have everything I need.”

JEFFERY (DOODLELAND OC) DRABBLE!! :]
Jeffery had always been humble. Growing up in a small town in an even smaller house tended to have that effect. So it had, obviously, taken quite a bit of adjustment to get used to living in such a big house with his husband. He loved Kyle to bits, but Apollo be damned if it didn’t take him forever to remember the layout of this home. His favorite spots became apparent almost immediately; the living room, where he sat right in front of the small, electric fireplace he’d asked Kyle to install, and the bedroom. Well, his bedroom. With his husband. Not just one of the several bedrooms in the building.
He loved these two in specific because they held an actual meaning to him. The spot by the fireplace was where he first came up with the idea to start his own online business, as well as where he spent endless hours crocheting new items for said business. He could make most things he found instructions for online. He even made a life-size snake plush once just to see if he could. Totally not to have something that reminded him of Kyle when he was out on important meetings and stuff, of course not. That’d be weird.
Either way, he was in the fireplace spot tonight, crocheting a dinosaur plush keychain to put up on his website tomorrow morning. The electric fire danced in front of him, no heat came from it but the crackling sounds from actual fire came through a speaker. Kyle was off making dinner somewhere, soothing music playing through a radio Jeffery had brought from his own home. The one that his mom and dad had given him when he was younger. He was honestly shocked it still worked, given how many years he’d had it and how many issues it has. It punched through to pure static, as if on cue, and Jeffery let out a quiet giggle.
“Dear! Dinner’s finished!” The call from the kitchen sounded just as he was about to finish a certain loop. He knew Kyle wouldn’t mind if he multitasked while he ate, but it still felt disrespectful.
“I’ll be there in a second, hun, just need to get this one little thing done!” He called this back, cupping one of his tentacles that weren’t working on the plush around where his mouth would soon be. He finished up as fast as he could, setting his stuff down on a nearby table and practically running to the dining room.

I had to look up "causes for carbon monoxide inside home" online because I kept being reminded that CO detectors are common in america for personal home use but I could genuinely not think of a single reason why carbon monoxide could form inside someone's living space unless they had a fireplace on at all times and terrible ventilation, but then I remember how non-electric stoves are so common in america and everyone has cars in a garage that is directly connected to the house or whatever and it made sense
#i think i've seen exactly one (1) gas stove in my entire life btw and it was in an old camp site and the stove was ancient#they're just not a thing here#isn't that fucking terrifying?? just. gas leaking out and you're setting it on fire#and they are still being produced! what is the benefit of a gas stove versus an electric stove??? does it consume less energy??#i guess it's less expensive and heats up faster#but. do you really need it to heat up that fast. i think even induction stoves are just a bit too much even if they're convenient as hell#and... you need to buy like. fuel for it. separately. what if you run out of fuel in your stove. doesn't it cost more long-term#are power shortages so common that it's a genuine benefit?? i have a simple electric stove and cheap camping cooking gear if the power goes#and the power has never gone out. granted i do live in an apartment. but still#someone please explain#and don't even get me started on the carpeted floors that require sooo much maintenance to keep clean and a bunch of expensive products

533.
What can you smell right now? My scented candle, which apparently smells like “smoked roses”.
What was the last thing you bought online? A cooling blanket and some air freshener for my car.
If you drink coffee, when was the last time you went a day without having one? Whenever I had that horrendous flu/bug thing - it must have been back in February, I think?
Do you have any appointments coming up? I have two jobs to do in a couple of hours. I have to go and feed Monty and then pop in on Charley the cat.
Do you put appointments in your phone’s calendar app to remember them? Yeah.
Will you be visiting anyone’s house in the next week or so? Yeah, my job involves going in/out of people’s houses lol. I also see my in-laws most days as they look after the dog for us while we work.
Have you ever been to a petting zoo? What animals did you pet? Yeah, loads of times - goats, lambs, pigs, calves, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks, ducklings - all sorts.
What was the last movie you saw in theatres? I haven’t been to the movies since before COVID lol.
Do you know anyone who has done a PhD? Yeah, quite a few people.
How many unread emails are in your inbox right now? Zero, I check/delete my e-mails as they come in.
What four apps do you keep on the home bar on your iPhone? (Sorry, I’m not sure if Android has an equivalent!) Phone, Spotify, Safari, Messages.
Have you ever used Tumblr? Do you still use it today? No, this is all a figment of your imagination.
Are you tired right now? A little bit, but not full-on exhausted or anything like that.
What’s your favourite day of the week and why? It depends on the week and what I have planned, but generally weekends are the best for obvious reasons lol.
How far away is the nearest major city? About two hours away.
Do you own an electric kettle? Sure.
Are your eyebrows wispy or bushy? Both lol.
Have you ever lost your wallet or purse? Did you have to replace a bunch of things? I’ve lost my bank card a few times but I just froze it via the app and ordered a new one.
Where are you right now? Describe the room or place to me. I’m in the living room as it’s bloody roasting outside. There are windows at each end - the front door is at one end, the kitchen door at the other and the upstairs door on far left as you come in. The walls are painted a mix of red and grey, the carpets are grey and so is the sofa, with red blankets/cushions to match the walls. All the furniture is white. There are fairylights all around the room and a scented candle burning above the fireplace.
Do you prefer big dogs or small dogs? Medium sized dogs - around 15-25kg is perfect for me. Anything bigger and they’re generally too strong for me to handle safely, and any smaller and they’re just not really my thing, I guess.
Are you good at understanding heavy accents? Which accents would you say you’re the best at understanding? For the most part I manage fine. I guess British accents.
Have you ever played on a real life pinball machine, or just on the computer? Both.
Do you have a lot of word documents or notes on your computer? No, I don’t think there any saved on here actually.
What’s your favourite Ben & Jerry’s flavour? I’m not a fan of Ben & Jerry’s anymore. I loved it as a teenager but now it all tastes really sweet and artificial,.
Have you ever been to a school reunion? How was it? No, and I have no interest in going to one.
How many nights a week do you generally cook at home? I eat at home pretty much every night but I don’t always cook.
What colour are the street signs in your neighbourhood? Are they the same all over town or do they vary? Like, the signs with street names on them? White with black lettering. That’s the same everywhere in the UK.
Do you have good grammar and punctuation skills? Yes.
Have you ever tried vegan chicken? Did you like it? Yeah, I used to love Quorn stuff but now it makes me sick lol.

Part 2: Electric Boogaloo let's gooooo
Since arriving at NRC, it's been one crazy thing after another. But not everything's been bad. A few days after orientation, Lilia came up to Grim and I and introduced himself and a group of other freshmen from the other dorms. They were apparently doing some freshmen orientation activities, which included following Vil along on a tour of the campus.
After the whole ordeal with Riddle's overblot, things finally settled into a nice, normal rhythm. I woke up one morning to find a small plant on the fireplace mantle with a note that read:
Keep this here cause this dump is dark and gloomy otherwise. -Ace
It's probably an apology gift for all the flack he put us through. 🤣
School's been different than I'm used to, but that's to be expected when you're sucked into a magical dimension. Deuce and I are like peas in a pod in History; we often help each other with study sessions, exchanging notes and going over dates. If there's a question that neither of us can answer, we found this online forum for students that's helped a bunch (this one user, gloomerai, seems to have every answer under the sun when it comes to technomantic innovations and they sometimes respond in real time if we ask a question that's not there yet). Trey often joins us for lunch and we've had some nice conversations about school and baking. Alchemy, on the other hand, has been a bit more difficult than anticipated considering the lab partner I'm most often stuck with can't seem to comprehend that you need to follow the basic instructions in the book and ends up exploding TWO HOURS' worth of work because he just threw in a frog's leg saying, "It'll be fiiiiine, what could go wrong?" ....Ace, my dude, please just follow the recipe and stop cutting corners.
PE is a slog to get through (why I'm back in a class I should've been done with years ago is something I still don't understand; must be a cruel joke from the universe). I'll admit, I got my hopes up when Coach Vargas brought out the broomsticks. I'd finally be able to fly like a witch on Halloween. We were having a joint class with a bunch of third years; each freshmen got paired up with a mentor to help them learn the ropes. Ours was a third year from Diasomnia and he gave some great pointers about steering and stabilizing. But then Grim lost control five minutes in and sent us careening across the field. We would've crashed into the stables, but something changed the broom's course to send us back to the class (somebody's magic, maybe?). We were able to jump off and watched as the broom zoomed off across the horizon. Vargas still gave us detention, which meant that we had to accompany Headmaster Crowley on one of his shopping trips in town. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The town is a pretty nice place and we got to see some of Crowley's favorite spots (didn't like carrying around his shopping bags, but at least I didn't have to carry absolutely everything).
Can't wait to see what happens next! 💕

Tips for Finding the Best Fireplace Store
In Canada, fireplaces are a common feature in many homes, serving both practical and aesthetic purposes. Given the country's long and harsh winters, fireplaces provide essential warmth and comfort. They are often the heart of a living space, creating a cozy atmosphere for families to gather.
Beyond their practical use, fireplaces in Canada also enhance the decor of a home, adding a touch of rustic charm or modern elegance, depending on the style. You will find many fireplace stores in Canada because they have a steady demand.
Many Canadian homes are equipped with either wood-burning, gas, or electric fireplaces, each offering its own benefits, from the traditional appeal of crackling wood to the convenience of a flick-of-the-switch gas or electric model.
Here are some tips to help you find the best fireplace store.
Look for Stores That Deal with Reputed Brands
When you are visiting a fireplace store, your first objective would be to see their stock of products. One of the key factors in choosing a fireplace store is the quality of materials and brands they offer. Customers should opt for stores that provide fireplaces made from high-quality materials like ceramic, cast iron, and steel.
These materials are durable and extend the longevity of the fireplace. Quality materials also ensure that the fireplace functions properly, regardless of its design. Additionally, a reputed store is more reliable, giving customers confidence that they can create a beautiful ambience in their home while maintaining safety.
Choose a Store with a Wide Range of Options
When searching for a fireplace store, it's important to select one that offers a variety of options. Stores that provide different types of fireplaces—such as wood, gas, or electric—allow customers to choose a fireplace that suits the ambience of their home. This also enables consumers to opt for environmentally friendly fireplaces. Fireplaces that use sustainable energy sources are beneficial for the health of the home’s residents, as they do not emit harmful gases or toxic chemicals into the environment.
Seek Out Expert Guidance
Many customers prefer a fireplace store with knowledgeable staff who can answer all their questions and address any concerns. These professionals should guide customers through the entire process of purchasing and installing the right fireplace for their homes . Reputable stores will have a team of skilled professionals who ensure that the fireplace is securely installed, helping to prevent significant risks in the long run.
Check Customer Reviews and Feedback
Customer reviews and feedback are valuable sources of information about the credibility of a fireplace store, making it essential to check them before making a choice. These testimonials are available on various online platforms and are based on the experiences of previous customers, so they should not be taken lightly. Positive feedback from satisfied customers is a good indicator of the store’s credibility, professionalism, and the superior quality of the products they offer. On the other hand, negative feedback clearly signals inferior product quality.
By following these tips, customers can make an informed decision when choosing a fireplace store for buying fireplaces, stoves, or other related products.

Kirat Raj Singh Simple things you can Do To Use Green Energy
Kirat Raj Singh Professional tips provider. As talk of global warming and other environmental concerns increase, there are more options available to run your home on green energy. Read this article for tips on how to cut energy costs and even get more in tax refunds for using solar or wind power, instead of traditional energy.
To help you use more green energy in your day to day life, contact your current energy or electricity provider to see if they offer a renewable-energy alternative. Many energy companies are beginning to offer environmentally sound, even higher priced energy services to cater to more socially conscious individuals.
While it makes sense to change from traditional light bulbs to energy-saving light bulbs you should wait until your old ones are all burned out. It is not a good idea to throw away perfectly good bulbs in order to make the switch since that would be a way to waste energy as well.
Do some research to gain information on the energy sources available to your area. Investigate costs for using those utilities, and be aware of any legislation about energy costs. You may find that natural gas will be better for your home than electric, or that well water is an available alternative to city water.
Swap your old incandescent light bulbs for high-efficiency LED or compact fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs use far less electricity than incandescent, and they come in sizes that fit most existing fixtures. While the up-front cost is generally higher, most of these bulbs will last for years before burning out.
If switching your home to solar power is beyond your financial capabilities, try switching just one room, like a bedroom, to solar power. There are solar kits available online that can help you green a room, and this will positively affect your energy bills and carbon footprint for years to come.
Use solar-powered outdoor lights. Outdoor lighting elements are a great place to use solar power, since there is easy access to sunlight. There are a wide range of lighting options to fit any decor. Not only does the solar-powered feature save on your energy bill, but it also makes these lights easy to install anywhere on your property.
Kirat Raj Singh Qualified tips provider. Get an energy audit of your home. Having your home inspected by a professional is the best way to find out how you could adopt alternative sources of energy. In some cases, the sun or wind exposure is simply not high enough to justify investing in alternative sources of power.
A wind turbine could help you cut down your electric bill by as much as 90%. Before you invest in this type of equipment, find out if the wind is strong enough to produce the amount of energy you need and get a professional to help you choose the right size of turbine.
If green energy is a concept which you embrace, minimize the use of electrical heaters during the winter months. Use a fireplace in place of the heater and wear warm layers of clothing. You want to remember that sleeping in cooler air is better for your breathing, and it also prevents the airways from becoming dry.
To incorporate green energy into your life, heat your home using biofuel instead of traditional fuels. This way, you can heat your home using renewable, biodegradable and generally, more environmentally friendly energy fairly easily. A wood or pellet stove is a great way to heat your home using biofuel products.
If at all possible, consider switching your electric or oil heating to gas. This is both better for the environment and your pockets. Just be aware that this is can be a complicated job that should be taken on by a skilled expert, should you decide to make this switch.
Keep your home clean at all times. By constantly cleaning your home, you aren't allowing dirt to accumulate, which if left alone, you would need to use products with harsh chemicals to clean up. The less often you have to use these environmentally damaging products, the better off everyone will be.
Kirat Raj Singh Expert tips provider. A raised floor can be a great way to save energy. Install your heating system in the raised floor: the heat will circulate much better and every room of your house will be warm. It also functions as an insulation from the cold ground in the winter and will allow air to circulate and cool off your home in the summer.
When you are cooking on your stove top, try to use a pan that fits the cooker ring just right. This will help to prevent heat loss. Also, when you can, put a lid on top of saucepans. In addition to heating your food up quicker, it will use less energy.
If you are building a home, consider the placement of your windows carefully. If you place windows in the right areas of a home, they can act as a passive solar energy collector. This means that your windows can help you keep your home cooler in the summer, and warmer in the window. You will reduce your electric bill and your dependence on traditional energy sources.
If you cannot get a renewable energy source, like solar energy, to provide power to your entire home, try seeing if you can get it installed to power some of your home. For example, get panels installed which will only heat hot water, or ones that specifically heat your basement.
Use portable solar panels. Small solar panels are now available for the home, and some of them are very affordable. By putting the power of the sun to work in your home, you will not use as much electricity to power your devices, which can save you a good deal of money.
Kirat Raj Singh Best service provider. There are several things that we can all do to cut back on our use of energy. It is important to take these small steps now, as it not only saves money, but creates a better environment. Remember the tips in this article to start making energy efficient decisions that will have plenty of benefits.
