Today was... well... something...

The BC show was great, no doubt about that. The guys were really having fun up there. Could I have done without the heat and getting my head pressed against the barricade so hard by a crowdsurfer that the back of my ear split open? Yeah, definitely. But does that mean that I didn't have fun? No.

I mean I would've had more fun for the rest of the day if I had still had the ability to crane my head and not suffer in the heat. But the BC show itself was just as great as always.

I saw some of my usual concert buddies again (bc fans of a feather or smth like that) and I had so much fun at the Attila and Sleep Token shows as well.

Wish I could've stayed for Gojira but I desperately need some rest, a glass of water and an Ibuprofen ASAP.

Currently I'm stuck at a random train station in the middle of nowhere and I'll probs be home at 4 (kill me).

We've learned so far

1. The Gods are actively looking for the person most compatible with their powers

With the Esper Seven it can be argued the gods simply gave them the powers as they were the first people to find out about the miracle threat and have the best chance together to do something about it.

but ever since it looks like there is a requirement the gods are looking for before giving out their powers

ex. Javid got the power's of Shamash at a seemingly mundane time, during a simulated battle at military school. Meaning Shamash had planned to give Javid his powers for awhile but just waited till he had enough experience before giving it to him

2. Humans can only hold so much divine power and it must be properly balanced

From Static Shock event we know espers can just dump out their esper energy but it is connected to your life force so if you deplete it completely you end up killing yourself

From Devouring Beast event we know espers can have too much divine power which can send them into a berserker rage that can leave them in a permanent damaged state

while the vast majority of espers naturally balance the divine power in themselves there are outliers to the rule

3. The gods are surprisingly loyal to their favored Espers

-Osiris mutated Ollie and saved him from dying. Which on one hand isn't that big of a deal as he is a ruler of the dead but at the same time from Egyptian mythos you're suppose to die and move on to your souls next plane of existence. it isn't about living being immortal or anything

Osiris rather ignore his own beliefs and save Ollie than just get another Esper

-Horus rather stand by a poverty stricken Falken struggling to make a living than find someone who isn't burden by money

-Nuwa stays supporting Feng Nuxi despite her wanting nothing more than to get rid of her blessing

-Embla can barely be considered herself anymore but Ymir still gives her power

-Persephone is giving her powers to Anna a person who is doing nothing but staying asleep

-Mictlāntēcutli could have gotten any other living person but he rather wait for some holiday miracle situation to happen so he can give his powers to the ghost boy he liked

I've been trying to practice drawing Ollie in a different art style because I realized I draw him a bit too feminine so I tried to start out with drawing his face into a more anime style but then it just devolved into hot anime Ollie with my little headcanon that he has a giant scar where his heart should be and many various battle scars/wounds from his reckless wanderings. . . Gotta practice more anatomy and shading/highlighting later on tho

The Evil Skeets plot is great. According to the omnibus it was a very late change away from a generic broken-time story, and I can kinda see that with how some of the earlier evil Skeets behavior doesn't seem super purposeful, but it all works for me.

I have no idea what fan speculation was like at the time but the idea of Supernova Jason Todd conspiracy theories is extremely funny so I support the intentional red herrings here.

Dr. Magnus is back! I wish him being bipolar was handled more sensitively, the whole "oh the medicine keeps me from going ~crazy~" thing is :/, but I'm willing to read it charitably as his own perspective because I like him. He's a psychotic DC character who's heroic and not spooky or magical, just a guy who really doesn't want to have another depersonalization episode and has some internalized sanism about it, it could be so much worse.

I like that Vic's more jaded to the horrors he can't stop than Renee is. He's had a lot of time to get used to the idea he can't save everyone - back in his own book he would've thrown himself in harm's way just like she wants to, but he's gotten better at not starting fights he can't win.

Hate to give Geoff Johns credit for anything but "What the hell are you doing?" "Seeing if it's contagious." is really good.

Almost all of his dialogue is straight from the O'Neil run. Rucka describes rereading the entire run just to write this issue because he had to get this right, and it shows.

There's a reason I consider O'Neil and Rucka the essential Question writers, and all the other takes to be interesting sidenotes.

Wild emotional roller coaster for me as I go from Renee agony to cheering about Booster. My first read of this was a Time.

Hi Milky! I don't mean to bother you, but I was hoping to get some help with information about Egyptian Mythology. . . . I know that you know a lot *more* about the mythology and I was wondering about how to properly depict Isis when she's in the middle of reviving Osiris. Specifically her crown. I'm in the middle of drawing my Dislytober prompt for the "mythology" theme and idk if I should draw Isis with the orb + cow horns OR with the throne symbol. Btw I love ur character designs for ur comic and I'm a fan of ur Drew and Ollie fanarts!!!!!

Omg, it's been such a long time since I drew these two together! You made me miss the old times! I'm really glad you liked them tho!

Anyways, regarding Isis's crown: both versions are actually valid! As you might know, Isis is often represented with two horns because, at a certain point, she took on some of Hathor's roles as a goddess of motherhood and fertility. But, she is also frequently depicted with a throne on her head, as her name itself means "throne".

However, if you want a suggestion to avoid confusion with Hathor - since many people associate the two horns with her - I’d recommend using the throne crown to distinguish Isis's iconography from Hathor’s. Unless, of course, you're drawing a mourning scene or something. In that case, you can keep the two horns, since Isis is known as the "mourning" goddess between the two, so the imagery will be easier to understand.
