She stops just in front of Dolio, Dolio watching her pensively. A thought bubbles to the surface, and Melanie holds her breath as Dolio’s hand reaches up and barely brushes against her dark hair. Melanie feels like she���s won the lottery.

are there other ships that you think have the same or similar dynamic to meronia that you also like?

mmmm they aren't really strictly supersimilar dynamics but two other ships i feel have levels of soulmateism that come close to mellonear are steve x bucky from the MCU (i willfully ignore everything that came after CATWS don't @ me) and erwin x levi from AOT (i never got past season 2 do nooooooot @ me).

similar ship dynamic but more lighthearted -- rin x haru from free! is another fav. they don't have enough doom happening in their story for it to have the same intensity as mellonear in terms of dynamic -- like the stakes simply are not as high -- but that could easily be part of the appeal, too, if you're looking to not suffer quite so much.

another ship i have read for without having actually consumed the source material is rei x asuka from NGE. i feel this ship dynamic is somewhat similar from my peripheral knowledge. my last and possibly biggest stretch ship is cosette x eponine from les mis. there's something slightly mellonear happening in there okay i am sure of it.

honorable mentions i've never read fic for: patty x simon from dinner in america, melanie x old dolio from kajillionaire, and alma x reynolds from phantom thread. none of those are dead-on for mellonear dynamics but there's at least a glimmer in each. xoxo

So I just watched movie called Kajillionaire. I stumbled across it on accident when I clicked on a YouTube video and saw a video of the main couple while YouTube was loading. When I tell you I have never hated myself so much since I knew the second I went back YouTube would load a new home page. Anyway it’s been on my watch list for a but now and I got around to it today.

Spoilers, spoilers, and more spoilers.

The main couple is Old Dolio and Melanie played by Evan Rachel Wood and Gina Rodriguez respectively. Old Dolio has been raised by her two con artist parents to well con people. It had to be pointed out to me but yes, Dolio is heavily autisticly coded. (Is that the right way to say it?) However I am reluctant to call her autistic because I’ve never meet someone who told me they were autistic making my comparisons a bit shaky. Now Melanie is dragged into this life when she sits next to the parents on a plane during a con.

Now Old Dolio and Melanie work as a couple to me. Mostly because Melanie has literally heart eyes every time Dolio looks at her, but also Dolio likes her too, and there is never a discussion about it or hatred, it just is.

One of my favorite connecting points in the movie is when Dolio’s mother tells her that when men give her anything wood they are saying she gives them wood, then much later in the movie Dolio gives a toothpick to Melanie in plain view of her mother who based on her expression understands perfectly.

Now the movie ends with Dolio’s parents conning both Melanie and Dolio out of Melanie’s family and what I think was a thousand seven hundred and twenty five dollars. They them returning the presents they brought Dolio and finding out it totaled to a third portion of the above mentioned money. The Dolio and Melanie kiss which has nothing to do with the plot but they had been building up to it so we’ll let it slip.

Overall this movie wasn’t too bad. The plot made me want to leave often in boredom, and reads as your stereotypical mediocre con-man movie. However the actors and the writers skillfully built up the relationship of Dolio and Melanie. It was believable in a way I wanted for so long.
