Ok, so I live in one of the more liberal areas of the country. Our governor is a lesbian and I literally did not even know until after she got elected, because it was that much of a nonissue.

Lately, I'm seeing more and more local institutions doing things for Pride. Institutions that don't necessarily have to, or do so awkwardly, but they're trying to be good allies. And, even here, I see people foaming at the mouth. This thing is ruined. Unprofessional. Political. Sexual. Boycotting, disgusted, bye.

And a part of me is like, "Why would a random store, a museum, a restaurant, do this?" Part of my mind has been so corrupted by the idea of rainbow capitalism that the thought of someone just...trying to be an imperfect ally is a cash grab.

It's not. Every bit counts, and especially as we see pushback, and see some of those corporations beginning to rethink their rainbow capitalism, the places that continue to speak up are so, so important.

I'm reminded of a rant by Illustrious Old White Man Historian Gordon Wood a few years back where he lamented how fragmented modern history is. Why do we need ANOTHER book about women, about enslaved people, about the poor? Why are we focusing on these people instead of George Mount Rushmore Washington?

And it was an interesting framing, because he insinuated that these micro histories were bad not because they existed, but because they didn't give the whole story, which in Gordon's mind was a story in which they were the side characters instead of the mains. To that end a biography of G Wash that features the bare shadow of Billy Lee in the far distance is a complete history, all that needs to be said, because one of those figures is a God Amongst Men and the other does not deserve to be fully fleshed out as a full, autonomous human being with a family and a profession and a beating heart. And a biography of William Lee, war aid, professional valet, and person closest to the first president of the United States, with the shadow of George in the background, would consequently be Bad History, because no one is saying that this man didn't exist, but his story isn't the whole story. It's backwards; he should be a footnote, and if he's not, that's bias.

But for me, as a historian, I know that the reason these microhistories exist, and are so important, is that they didn't exist before. Before someone can be truly, purposefully, tactfully inserted into the historical narrative, you need to know who they are. Not just as a name, not just as an archetype. You have to get to the point where there are so many books flooding the market about women and children and immigrants that it's no longer controversial to be talking about them, where learning about them instead of someone else is normal.

THEN you can feel good about rewriting the more general narrative. THEN you can actually have the information you need in order to put things into their proper context, to rethink the most important figure in each story, to assess what the full milieu of the time is.

And that's where we're at with Pride. We are still very much living in a time where queer people are shadow characters in the background. They are people that many will admit exist, but for god's sake, don't make them important, don't make them real, don't make them normal. And until we can shove rainbows down everyone's throats to the point where being queer is no longer seen as a thing that is Other, until we convince people that we're not going away, we will never be able to fully assimilate queerness into society.

We can't just be normal about Pride, because normal isn't loud enough to not get drowned out.

Worst Fear

Summary: Your worst fear comes true public speaking. But no need to worry Eddie is here to save the day. 

Trope: Eddie x introvert!girlfriend 

A/N: These is for all of my girlies you needed an Eddie back in school 

Warnings: Use of Y/N, cussing, being picked on, kissing, Eddie being the best boyfriend, bad family dynamic. 

Word count: 1.2k 

You woke up with a bubbly stomach. Oh no, today you must present in class in front of the students. Your worst fear, public speaking. You got ready while reading your project in the hope of remembering some part of it, so you don’t look at the paper a lot. You always get docked points for not having eye contact, it was hard because every time you looked into someone's eyes you stuttered. God your stuttering problem was the worst it has gotten better over the years but still bad. When you were little, you used to stutter out every other word, now after many speech therapists, you only stutter when you are overly excited about something, say something too fast, or are nervous, in your books this was progress. You eat breakfast quietly as normal your brother was talkative enough for the both of you, he was the star of the family he was the “perfect” one because he plays sports and was outgoing. Your shyness definitely was your family’s fault, they overlooked you and talked over you. You never felt important till you met Eddie. He made you feel like the only girl in the world. When he talked with you, he talked at you he listens, gave feedback, those beautiful brown eyes hangs on to every word. Whenever you got excited and stuttered your family would shut you down and tell you Relax or just talk normal but Eddie watched you with love in his eyes he would let you finish then talk he was everything you could ask for. Beep Beep music to your ears Eddies horn, your brother rolled his eyes because he was in the middle of his story that he told 1000 times, but your family hung on to every word. “Bye” you mumbled your parents just waved you off. This was going to be a long day. 

Eddie knew that it was going to be a bad day for you. You have been stressing out all month, today you had to present a project. You hate public speaking; your shyness gets the best of you and the students of Hawkins high are the worst, they laugh and make fun of every mistake you make. But not today Eddie wasn’t going to let that happen. He saw you come out with fear in your eyes it had already started. “Hi my princess how was your sleep ”he cooed in hopes to keep you out of your head, but you were too far gone. “Hey” you mumbled as you stared off in space lips moving but no words coming out you were reciting your speech. He watched you in worry this was going to be a long day. 

“Why don’t you practice on me” “What” you said confusing “Practice your presentation with me I will say mine then you will say yours” he smirked “You did your speech?” “Well, no but I can tell you what I would have said” “Eddie you need to do your homework you are going to graduate with me and-” he got you your mind moved on. He got out the car mid of your rant and opened your door “Thank you and you need to work on your math too because I know you didn’t do it” “Nope I did not” “Let go then” he planned work you and talking to him and are not worried about the project. It was going great …. for 5 seconds “Hey Eddie, Y/N you ready for the presentation that shit is going to kick my-” Gareth said. Eddie hit Gareth’s arm “Ow what was that for” You froze shit you have you look at the clock 10 minutes. “I been trying to get her mind off of it” “Shit sorry” Eddie looked back at you great back to square one. “Sweetheart no need you worry I will be there” tears filled your eyes “But what if I mess up” you said worriedly “Hey” he wiped your eyes “Don’t think like that you are going to do great ok if you get scared looked at me ok” you nodded and held Eddie until the bell rang, here we go.  

“Alright class today we are going to do something different instead of volunteering to go up I'm going to pick name” every introvert's worst fear. “Ok first is” Your heart is pounding in your chest praying to any god out there please not me please “Y/N L/N you are first” Eddie looked at you in worry, he gave you a reassuring nod and mouth you got this. You slowly stood up and you felt everyone's eyes on you. You gulp “H-Hi” no stop stuttering ....THUNK everyone laughed Eddie prosperously fell out of his chair when you made eye contact with him, he winked. He was taking to embarrassment off you to him “Mr. Munson in your seat please” “Yep got it” he got up and mouth just breath. You took a deep breath. “My- my project is o-on Th-The-” “Sp-sp-SPIT out already” Andy yelled that had the class roaring in laughter suddenly a  spit ball landed on Andy cheek, only you saw Eddie hiding the straw or you thought “Mr. Munson one more thing out of you and you are out of here” he couldn’t leave you so unfortunately, he must protect you in peace. Tear welled your eyes as you finished your presentation “Thank you miss L/N next we have.... Mr. Munson” He got up and tripped on the way up to the front “Ok so my project is on nothing because I didn’t do it” he teased as he look at the teacher “Go sit” “Yep” “Next is......”  

The bell rang and you ran out of class Eddie hot on your heels “Y/N wait please” he caught up to you and brought you into his chest “It’s ok I got you” you mumbled something but he couldn’t hear what you said. “Come on lets go somewhere private” he cover you has he went out the school doors to the bench in the word he put you on his lap “Ok let it out” you continue crying for 5 minutes then you died down “ You better” he soothed “Y-Yea” you hiccuped “Hey it wasn’t that bad yea you stutter at the beginning but after you took a breath a look at me everything was perfect” “But Andy-” “Andy is a fucking jerk out he gets off on making people feel bad the rate you're going soon you will be the boss of him” “How if I can’t even due a speech on a book I love how can I be the boss of anyone” you wailed “Ssh ok ssh” as he brought you into your chest “It's going to take some time to get you out of your shell, it took you a good two weeks to look at me and now look at you look at us we are in love” a smiled spread across your face love. Last week after your date Eddie climbed into your room and told you he loved you and you said it back because you did but was too scared to tell him. “How about we skip, go to Benny's pick you some burgers and milkshakes then my place for some movies” “I would really like that” he takes you off his lap and stands up “Then your chariot awaits my shy girl” you blushed there it is, he kissed you then you sneak into his van. It was a perfect way to end a horrible day with Eddie.

For a while I rationalized the existence of the Homestuck Epilogues just cause I like Davekat and I just wanted to accept them being canon even if it also meant accepting tons and tons of character assassination and a terrible storyline

But honestly it’s time I take off the shipping goggles and acknowledge that all of the Epilogues is a mess, including my favorite ship content. They, like everyone else, are out of character and are making decisions that they’d never do

Roxy, who once threw a whole funeral for a cat, would never show disrespect at the death of one of her best friends

Jade would never prioritize invading other peoples relationships when she could be enjoying the company of her family and friends

John would never sit back and accept his fate, whether it be straight up dying or living a life of mundanity, if it meant he’d be miserable with it

Jake would never let people use him for their own gain (again), Dirk would never manipulate people (not after his character arc geez guys), Rose would never give up the chance to fix a problem herself, Kanaya would never leave her wife to suffer alone, Jane would never become the next Condesce, etc, etc.

And despite my rationalization of the Davekat scene through my shipping goggles, I have to admit that Dave would never jump headfirst into both a crush and relationship, especially when you account for his trauma. At the very least, he wouldn’t confess to having a crush without blabbering on about his anxieties first, likely coming out in the middle of a rant on accident (don’t deny it, you know he would) in the same way he accidentally calls Jane “John’s hot grandma.” He’d probably say something like “I’m going through a bisexual crisis, a bi-sis if you will- oh yeah I’m bi by the way, hahah bi-by like bye-bye which is what I should be doing before I embarrass myself further ok bye”

I can see him saying all that ^ more than I can see him downing a ton of alcohol and kissing his crush as if he was in some sort of romcom. Homestuck’s always been really good at deviating from tropes and making the characters feel more like real people, and real people don’t succumb to romcom scenarios. Karkat would smack the romcom out of Dave long before ever succumbing to his own romantic fantasies (It’s like, say you always wanted to be a fairy princess but once you actually turn into one you’re like “uhhh what this is so unrealistic and kind of uncomfortable...” Idk bad example). The point is that no one actually wants to be in a romcom, they just want some of those romantic events like singing songs and having deep emotional conversations, but not suddenly kissing each other after screaming at the fourth wall that’s for sure

Karkat is knowledgable enough in romcoms to know when he’s in one, and you know as hell he won’t give into a cheap narrative like that. Karkat’s never been one to let fate strangle him into submission, he wouldn’t have survived to 6 sweeps on Alternia if he had. Also, he has no interest in politics, not after the whole Gamzee thing anyway, and while I do think Karkat cares a lot for Dave and would want to make him happy, he surely wouldn’t do so by running for President. Karkat’s the kind of person who shows affection with little actions, like drawing with chalk or listening to music. You know, quality time

And I think it’s time that I woke up from my own romcom fantasy and realized that while I want these characters to have a happy ending, this just isn’t them in the first place

I’d like to hear some thoughts from non-davekat shippers on the subject. Nothing anti-davekat I mean, more like some opinions from people who are davekat-indifferent. How did this character development affect readers without red-tinted shipping goggles?

gah OK I've been thinking about something that happener on thursdya. lengthy recount ig (im learning from aita posts)

so i was on my way to the school gate after club and ran into my seniors from club. they were going in the direction i came from so we were just crossing paths. and i'm friendly with them, we don't talk a lot because i have my friend my age in club (but shes a lot closer to them than i am to them due to her extroverted nature - this matters later), but not that seldom either. so i said bye to them and they were all saying bye to me as i passed them. including this one senior, let's call them R. and i was pleasantly surprised because im pretty sure R dislikes me.

so, R is sorta close to my friend i mentioned earlier, who ill refer to as C, and they always gossip during club cus theyre both in the student council. im not, so most of the time im just sitting there awkwardly listening, but im not involved in the conversation, so im really not close to R.

anyway, R always waves or says hi to C, and recently i noticed that she just acts like im not there when im always next to C. the other day when C was late to club, R saw me and asked "where's C?" im sure she didn't think twice about it but it doesn't feel great to know that the only person i am to anyone in club is C's best friend, not even worthy of receiving some sort of friendly greeting. also on Thursday, i was standing in front of one of the big fans to cool down, and R was nearby. R came up to me and stood in front of the fan, facing me, so we were just awkwardly standing there for some reason idek. R is a head or so shorter than me so i was just awkwardly smiling down at her because im nice like that /j. we didn't say anything and she just left like five seconds afterwards...

so back to the main point. my seniors and i walked past each other, and they said bye to me, even R. at that point we were turning a corner, so i could still hear them talking past the corner, and i heard the other seniors teasing R, saying "who are YOU to say bye", while laughing. obviously to me this implies that R told them that she didn't like me, making it ironic of her to say bye to me, and hence the other seniors said that. i heard them very clearly btw they were not even out of earshot. im trying not to let this bother me because i may be wrong but i cannot think of any other explanation :/ if she dislikes me then so be it but i don't want to be disliked by my other seniors who are really nice. and i want to know if ive done anything wrong other than being lanky and awkwardly standing around.

👉👈 so...The show is called Longmire. It's an American, contemporary western, crime drama from 2012 based on the book series of the same name. It follows the titular Sheriff Walt Longmire as he tries to get his life together after the loss of his wife and solve crimes in his county and whatever he can around the neighboring Native American Reservation.

I say "whatever he can" bc The Reservation isn't actually within his jurisdiction and he's barely allowed to be there, bc they have their own police force, and THAT'S where THE GUY I keep trying to tell you about without telling you about comes in!

👉👈so...he's Tribal Police Chief Mathias Clark. Yeah I gotta say the whole thing.

We're first introduced to him when he tries to beat the ever-loving cowboy out of our protagonist for daring to show his face on The Reservation after arresting his boss, the previous Tribal Police Chief (albeit for crimes he did commit, but Walt didn't even wait for the federal police like he was supposed to, but...it was complicated, ok?)

I think he walks this nice line between upholding the law above all else; doing things often more by-the-book than any other character; being calculated and calm and sane (...despite that introduction); and, at the same time, being fiercely protective of his people and culture; considering Sheriff Walt and co. to be opportunistic, reckless, disrespectful threats and scarcely cutting them any slack and still giving them trouble when he finally does in any investigations that may lead them onto his jurisdiction; being willing to kick and bite (and occasionally blackmail, uh oh) to achieve everything he can for the good and well-being of his people on The Reservation, even if the people refuse to trust another Police Chief, or if it may cost someone else.

Ultimately, he holds the law in a very high regard but holds his people and culture higher. He's very limited in what he can do, as a tribal police chief, and he's set on being fair, but he'll do anything he possibly can to make The Reservation safe and ensure the people on it a good future. <3

Also he's got a lot of attitude and sass and is constantly mad at Walt and loves his people sm and its very endearing and funny and also don't fact check anything I've said today with a real long-time fan of the series unless I made him sound unlikable, I hope you're doing well plz take care okay bye AGAGGHAAAAA THE POST RANT CLARITY-

UM. HELLO

Yyeah I songwrite. In my spare time. It's a hobby. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily very good? But I've been doing it for A While now so I think I've written some decent pieces

Anyway I wouldn't actually call them "pieces" because even the few songs that I've written to completion are just written lyrics and recorded melody. I don't know how to write sheet music and know jack shit about composing instrumentals. But I know a lot of musicians including my boyfriend who has offered to help me if I ever decide to actually make anything with the songs

But!! If you wanna know about The Pearl!! I don't know if it's fully accurate to call it a concept album, but the songs are sequential & interconnected with the added bonus of being loopable. That's something that ties in to the main theme of the album, which is (as I mentioned on the tags of that post) the cyclical nature of insecurity and loneliness. In the album, the main character (who's referred to both in the first and second person singular, depending on the focus of the song: second when it's introspection, first when it's a plea to an outsider) goes from a deep yearning for connection, to achieving that connection but growing increasingly fearful of not being good enough to maintain it, to abandoning it altogether as a way to relieve those anxieties but mourning its loss nonetheless. The last song expresses this loss while also lamenting this cycle as it wraps back around to the very first song of the album.

The title (which is kind of a placeholder, though it's growing on me) comes from that first song, which is titled "Your Pearl". The pearl in question symbolizes a person's heart and soul, something that the main character holds tightly under wraps and refuses to let go of; in the song, events in her childhood have led her to refuse to be vulnerable and risk getting hurt, and even though she claims to have moved past them she won't acknowledge how much they've shaped her and the way she socializes.

Oh, it looks so pure, charmed, I'm sure / With that neatly folded stare / But you still can't let it go, can't drop your pearl // 'Cause when you walk through that door / You are still that little girl

Okay I went into rant mode and after coming out of it I can't delete everything I've already typed out but also if I tell you more I might explode. The one thing I want to cram in is that the last song's chorus references a comet, and. In the music videos that I also have in my head for some of these, the first song starts off with a crying little girl picking up a pearl that washes up onshore, while the last one ends with a comet burning through the atmosphere and falling into the ocean, eventually washing up onshore as a pearl. And David made it clear that they still have work to do. This one truly broke my brain.

Im just sick of all this. Izzy stans have been coddled for the past week, being told its ok to grieve, but theyve crossed multiple lines. I do wish some things had been more explicit in this finale, only because David overestimated the maturity and media literacy of some people.

The fact that I sent my own anon rant today shows you're not alone in this, and there are more and more people who aren't afraid to say it. It's infuriating that this very loud corner of the fandom can't get a grip that this wasn't Our Flag Means Izzy, and that he wasn't the hero protagonist.

I've had people tell me they're not going to watch the show any more and right now I'm at the point of "Fine! Good! No need to announce it! Buh bye!" because I don't think I could deal with them watching S3 and getting angrier and angrier that Izzy isn't back (or if he is back as a ghost is still not good enough, etc etc).

Izzy got most of the screen time apart from Ed and Stede this season. He got the best fucking send-off I've seen in a long fucking time. The characters I've cared about over the years who died got at most 20% of the care and love Izzy got from the writers.

Honestly I've managed to avoid most of the most rancid takes because I had the word Izzy muted on twitter and I can only advise you to do the same.

Kara is my absolute favourite character. No one does it like her. She's just incredible, plus Valorie is insanely talented and she outperformed, making Kara more loveable.

Kara and Alice's storyline is not my favourite to play but it is my favourite as a whole, because of the found family element. That shit's my favourite. I hate d*vid c*ge, I despise how he shoved Kara into a stereotypical Mother role just because she's the only playable woman, ESPECIALLY since this game is only possible because of her. I hate how he used domestic abuse to make her storyline more "thriller" (because the only way he can imagine women feeling fear is if a man is beating them), and I hate how she is the only one who can die so early on and has less chapters than the other two male leads. But, I love Kara tremendously and her story is like a breath of fresh air from Connor's, and a relief when Markus's stresses me out lol.

I really disliked the "Alice is an android" plottwist. Not only was it dumb and predictable, but the way it was handled was sooooo lame and insulting to Kara's character. "she just chose not to remember" because they couldn't reveal it to the audience too soon. Like what kinda explanation is that. There's just so many inconsistencies the "plottwist" created in the story. And it felt entirely tasteless considering Kara was meant to be a bridge between androids and humanity, being an android who so deeply cares for and loves a human child enough to take care of her at any cost. That meaningfulness dies as soon as Alice is no longer human.

But I will defend Alice any time. I do love her. So much of this fandom complains about her being a numb child which is INSANE to me because we all saw her being abused by Todd. Like ffs. Complaining about her "I'm cold", she's a goddamn kid and she's cold, you want her to suck it up? After everything she's been through? God.

Also I'd argue, and have argued before, that Kara is the closest example we have to how a hypothetical ai gaining sentience and emotions would look. Again it's entirely theoretical and not possible in real life, but we actively see her gaining true emotion, we see how she rewrites her programming to suit her, and I wish we had more of it in the game. She's the only character whose emotional responses can be irrational, and therefore are genuine emotional responses. She even says, regarding Alice, "I can't be happy if she's not". That's not rational at all, but it IS a very common emotional response to caring about someone. We know she genuinely cares for Alice because of this. Kara is a beautiful character and I fucking wish the fandom acknowledged her more.

I could rant for days on how they're both mistreated by the fandom but I won't right now. They're both girls, I'm sure you can imagine what they go through at the hands of the fandom and how utterly undeserved and misogynistic it all is.

Ultimately when I ignore the context of the director and writer I am able to fully enjoy their story and their characters. But as soon as I think about DC I fume lol. As is MOST if not ALL things in this game. I honestly feel the only thing I truly enjoy about the game is the characters, and Kara and Alice are great characters. Well written despite the game's overall writing flaws, and very easy to love and understand. I love how passionate and stubborn and caring Kara is. I love how wonderful and loving and compassionate Alice is. I love and miss them both so much

if his child does not look like him, he at least wants his child to have the same nen type as him he wants to at least have some thing in common with his child, but he would not be moody or jealous about the situation or anything in general. He would be pretty neutral about it surprisingly enough.

Franklin-

Honestly, he is just hoping that his child isn’t scared of him😭 he wouldn’t really mind how his child looks. Anyways, I mean he can’t really say anything…. And he definitely would not want his child to resemble him unless it’s eye colour or hair color.

Nobunaga-

He would definitely be salty about it and he would make sure everybody knows that he is salty about it. He would definitely go and tell his s/o knowing damn well it’s out of their control and of course he would go rent about it to the phantom, troupe and especially uvogin but their advice to him was just to suck it up and shut up about it

Shalnark-

He wouldn’t really care much as long as his child was respectful to him and his s/o he wouldn’t really care about the looks as long as he knows that it’s his child
