This is a post Ive made like 100 times and then deleted but Im gonna make it again because Im thinking about it again.

So like back when the Dorohedoro anime was dropping and everybody was getting on Dorohedoro alot of people were saying Dorohedoro Is Super Trans because of Turkey right. And my kind of take on Dorohedoro is that if you do try to read the whole story in a trans way it actually comes out like pretty bad and I would say nearly against transition. And like I dont think this is a problem because I dont think thats actually what Hayashida was going for of course I think the sorcerer stuff in Dorohedoro is mostly a class allegory and the bits that arent are like non-allegorical Worldbuilding For A Violent Universe. But it has always kind of annoyed me how people make that claim based on Turkey when the manga as a whole has a pretty negative stance on surgery, which feels big to me when talking about gender transition.

#You can tell Im trying not to say Turkey isnt trans. I dont think Turkey is intended to be representation though #Like I do think its also important to point out when talking about this that Dorohedoro has one canon gay character and its Chota #And there was also a whole Man In A Dress joke bit with Kaiman where characters were saying hes too #tall to be a woman in a setting where Noi exists.#Will say though the same thing hasnt been repeated in Dai Dark #There is also Shimada Death whos gender nonconforming but I still also dont really think of him as trans #I think saying that something is super transgender because theres magical gender magic sometimes is a mistake and its worth analyzing the #whole text. I get also that maybe people are just like considering things separately but then its like #Dorohedoro isnt very transgender its just there is one trans character #And then a main character whos thing is he ruined his life by trying to change his body via surgery.#I do also think Dorohedoros thing of treating surgery as grotesque and like Body Horror Shit is like #something that could be discussed way more like its definitely a choice that should be examined #Ok POST OVER NOW everybody write essays on Dorohedoro instead of making #quick tumblr posts about how Noi is so big and sexy and thats it
