Messed up the proportions again - I like the head on its own, but it's noticeably smaller than it needed to be, whoops.
While looking for references I learned that 1) The German Opening has a completely different song from the original and 2) It's still catchy AF.

Go Yuri go!!! official fanbook, The making of characters
Victor Nikiforov
Mitsurou Kubo's comment
The result of the challenge I set myself to draw a character that would be as cool as he can be, so cool no-one could miss that, cooler than I have ever drawn in any of my works. The color of his hair is silver, but I also add a few blue streaks. At first, I was thinking about hair that looks silver, but actually is blond with a lot of white hair, but I couldn't find any info about how blond people grow white hair, so I decided not to use this idea (laugh). About his height, we were thinking about a nice balance when he stands next to Yuuri, so we made him quite tall. I had that idea that his face in super-deformed style should be unique, so his mouth is heart-shaped when he smiles. This way of drawing was popular in "Ohayo! Spank" and "Tokimeki Tonight" era of shojo manga (laugh). I wanted him to be cool, but also to have a different side to him [big gap between cool and cute/silly side]. That he feels insecure about his hairline at this age… in other words, that his "zettai ryoiki" seems a bit wider that it should be ["zettai ryoiki" is originally the bare skin you can see when a girl is wearing a miniskirt and knee-socks], makes the viewer's heart flutter, and I wanted you to maybe mistake this feeling for the feeling of falling in love - I aimed for this kind of "misattribution of arousal" effect (laugh). In case of his sex appeal, I've got a lot of inspiration from Stephane Lambiel.
Junpei Tatenaka's comment (skating animation)
We draw him in a way to "leave the jaw" and with a very soft/gentle feel - for example, when he skates backward, first his body goes down, then his head pulled by his spine and at last, his jaw. The same with the tips of his fingers - beautifully. Overall, we wanted to give him the image of "a fine man".

My picture diary was what really intrigued me last weekend because I thought I lost a lot of my early childhood things. You see, my folks moved around a lot when I was young and things sadly got lost in the shuffle including a lot of baby pictures, clothing, toys, ect. This picture diary was from my elementary years. Terrible kid handwriting as expected so let’s focus on the pictures.
I remember the time we had to grow plants. It was a summer vacation activity. We got to chose sunflowers, tomatoes or morning glories. I chose the latter. We had to log down any changes we saw as it grew over summer break. I must have been so proud when my flowers bloomed because they take up the entire picture space. XD
I also got to write about my summer vacation. Here I was kayaking around the Channel Islands with my dad. Then we went collecting shells and acorns in a basket from somewhere, the writing doesn’t elaborate. My dad’s friend, who was Chumash, taught me how to turn them into beads.
This picture looks like a sunset. This may have been a lesson on how to use our beeswax block crayons, a staple in my Waldorf school. Might explain the smooth quality of the drawings, because these do not look like Crayola.
Gosh this cracks me up. So from what I can gather here, I went to a tide pool exhibit and they were feeding the animals. I watched a mean fish steal the crab’s food and it started crying. Nevermind that crabs don’t have tear ducts, according to Little-Me, the crab cried. XDD The expressions though. I had such a vivid imagination back then. I also see some anime-ish features. I grew up near San Francisco and San Diego, both of which have a strong Asian community. I had classmates hailing from the Philippines, Korean, and Japan that invited me over for dinner, and I shopped in Asian markets/centers with my mom. Names like Candy Candy, Doraemon, Hana no ko Lunlun, Ohayo Spank and Creamy Mami were familiar names from small time video rental places and my friends’ VHS. So the influence isn’t surprising.
This one is of some seals, which were a fairly common sight on our way to the fish market, and on that page was a paper suncatcher, a very typical Waldorf art lesson. The nostalgia hit me smelling the Coccoina glue we used to use. It’s amazing how scent is so strongly tied to our memory.
Looking through this picture diary really takes me back, and while most people would cringe about their old art I think it’s adorable. Little-Me really liked to use a lot of color and I drew surprisingly well for that age. A hint to my future as an artist. This book is a time capsule and I really feel like scanning it to keep copies should it get lost or damaged. It also inspired me to maybe think of creating a picture diary this summer as an artist, seems like a nice way to record the year.
