A little follow-up from this post! 🌊
+ corny drabble and art under cut
“Is there a mall or something nearby?”
“A m— Jack, we’re in the middle of the woods. Berk barely has a general store.”
“You know those like — tall box thingys? You take pictures in them?” Jack says, and Hiccup knows he’s frustrated with himself for not finding the right words. Nobody’s memory is perfect after hundreds of years of floating. The photo in Hiccup’s hand flutters with the ocean breeze, threatening to tear out of his grasp and fly away. This could help with that.
“Oh,” Hiccup blinks, “a photobooth?”
Jack snaps his fingers. “Yes! That!”
“I dunno, I doubt there’s any in this county, let alone—” Hiccup feels Jack’s grip switch from his shoulders to a more firm hug under his arms. The wind picks up, pulling at his jacket, lifting the heel of his boot - and Hiccup shoves the photo of Jack in his pocket. “Wait—!”
“Wind!” Jack crows, and Hiccup can hear his puckish grin.
They take off into the sky.

Hey y’all! Say hello to
Ebott~
Tumblr media
Or at least the first wip of the ebott map! I have all the main (above ground) locations so far!
For those who are wondering, dark brown is rocky hilly land/cliff sides, rusty brown is mountain ranges, khaki is grassland, green is forest, and light tan is beaches obviously lol. I don’t think I need to say what the blue areas represent.
I’ll add descriptions of each landmark below the next picture.
Tumblr media
Alright starting from left to right:
Atlantis: home of the hadal monsters, the majority of this city is underwater, but some of it is accessible through the cliffs of bluefin island as well as floating buildings anchored to the shallower ocean around the island. The majority of Atlantis city houses its people in the curved section of the ocean trench by bluefin island. The buildings are carved into the rock.
Seashore: ebotts second largest beach town, seashore is a beautiful place where the majority of ebotts fishing trade takes place. It’s a popular vacation spot more for ebotts residents, but it does get some tourism too during holiday season.
Echo hills: the southernmost city of ebott, echo hills is a small city surrounded by grassy farmland. Due to the location, the place is raining more than not, and is perfect for crops that need lots of water! Echo hills is best known for its rice, producing just enough to sustain ebott.
Remembrance: located to the west on wells island, remembrance town houses one of the maintained entrances to the connected underground’s. It is also the point where the famine monsters were found and rescued. Here the royals placed the memorial of those left behind. Massive stone statues carved all over with the names of family who died underground or were left behind in the crash surround the caves entrance. A small town of monsters maintain the area, and some livestock are raised there as well.
The great dam: exactly what the name suggests, it’s just ebotts biggest dam. It’s part of the national forest so only a handful of maintenance workers and rangers actually live there. The dam is connected to waterfall lake.
The national forest entrance: this is the official way to see the national park, and access the maintained trails. Most of the park rangers live near here as well. There’s a small tourist trap too selling gift items, and farther up is a hunting lodge that opens during open season.
The Temple: located right in the middle of ebott, the actual temple building sits on top of three large mountains near kidney lake. The temple houses ebotts history and is a popular tourist spot. It also houses one of the maintained entrances to the underground, connected to some of the upper levels of waterfall.
NEW EBOTT: the largest city of ebott, and the capital of the county. New ebott has it all! The education, entertainment, shopping and jobs! And of course all the important big government buildings are here as well as most of the royals! New ebott is the only city connected to all the railroads and has the largest airport.
Rails Way: a city surrounding an important train stop, rails way is the in between rest stop between Portland and new ebott. Besides the trains passing through, it also is where trucks in ebott are made and fixed for the most part. There’s a few other factories in the city as well, like a few metal processing plants.
Metta Land: north to new ebott, this is basically a theme park, mega mall, and Hollywood all rolled into one spot. Metta land is so big that there’s even a few villages around it where its employees live. It also houses the only man/monster made entrance to the underground, going straight to hotland of course. What happens in metta land stays in metta land
Portland: this is the second biggest city of ebott located on the east. Almost all trade ships stop here. Portland is a bustling business city full of factories, and has a few houses of education too! It also houses most of ebotts navy and has the second largest airport.
Cape resort: located on the southern rocky cliffs, cape resort is in fact not a resort. It’s rocky, cold and generally horrible to live in if you’re not an aquatic monster lol. However it has an oil rig. Lots of hadal and sea monsters live there maintaining that oil rig.
New hope: new hope is a beautiful mountain town housing the entrance to snowdin, the largest entrance to the underground. It gets the largest amount of tourists year round and is a popular ski location during the winters as well. The parts of new hope that aren’t for tourists are mostly farmland or forests put aside for logging. Plenty of vineyards are in this area
Ridgeside factory: Ridgeside factory is ebotts main power plant and is directly connected to the core in hotland as well. It’s surrounded by a few villages too where more outdoorsy monsters live. Those who don’t work at the factory are either from hotland or are miners. The mountains in the area are littered with natural caverns being used as mine entrances
Golden valley city: the golden valley refers to the surrounding farmland, but in the very middle of it is the golden valley city. It is a rural type of place, is where the majority of ebotts produce passes through before being sold, and is a huge art center of the country. Just about everything above ground is grown in the valley surrounding the city.
Steeler city, the third largest city of ebott, steeler is where golden valley ships their produce to be preserved and spread around the rest of the country. Steeler is full of factories and restaurants. The most famous eating places of ebott are located here!
Crimson gate bridge: it’s a massive bridge named after the Golden Gate Bridge in California. This bridge is actually a sunny gold color, but they named it crimson in fear of being called copycats
Corncopia: a third farming community located between the split between white water river, ebotts biggest river. Corncopia is absolutely gorgeous but space is limited so it’s a fight to get any land there. The prime spots are taken by the rich for their homes or by the big wig farmers who cemented their place when the country was first forming
Not listed on the map is the underground! Ebott still has all the underground chambers from when the monsters were sealed away. New entrances to the underground are being discovered each day, and still plenty of monsters live there, preferring the comfort of a home they knew from before. Since there no longer trapped inside, the underground has become pretty comfortable. At least the discovered parts are ;)
I’ll describe the three main areas from smallest to largest
Hotland: hotland is really only a small thin chunk of the underground. A long but thin lake of lava surrounded by rocky chambers makes up the areas of hotland. The most popular spot of course is hotland city, connected to metta land, it’s pretty much the Vegas of ebott these days. The less visited spot, core, is a small town housing the core, connected to Ridgeside factory, and housing several research centers.
Snowdin. Snowdin is actual just the name of the small quaint town close to the underground entrance in new hope. They have year round skiing, and a pretty boat ride through waterfall straight to hotland for tourists. The outskirts of snowdin however have several villages filled with farmers growing magical crops that thrive in the cold temperatures.
Waterfall: it’s estimated that nearly 80% of the underground chambers are waterfall lands. Humid, cool but not frigid, and filled with varying levels of fresh and salt water, waterfall is underneath the majority of ebott, and even extends into the ocean some. Almost all of ebotts magical crops are grown down in the lived in parts of waterfall. It’s because of this area that ebott is self sufficient in feeding its people. Waterfall also houses the fourth and fifth largest cities of ebott; New Shell and Lily pad Fields.
Whew! That was a lot! I’ll probably add more to the map later on, but I think this is good for now

What the fuck is the joke maryland au and why did you ominously rb mentioning it and NOT tell me please i need to know
LOL it's basically hypmic if they were marylanders instead, with each county as a division
buster bros - prince george's county (if you know anything about maryland you know why this is) mad trigger crew - baltimore (the city, not the county. homicide capital of maryland and formerly of america) fling posse - anne arundel county (for the casino and the mall) matenrou - howard county (middle class core) bad ass temple - montgomery county (large buddhist population, high median household income, many lawyers) dotsuitare hompo - frederick county (this took me a bit but i do think sasara would perform at shipgarten, which i know is not in frederick but it's not that far lol. vivziepop is from here and i think that warrants it being clown county)
these are all in central maryland because if you look at the hypmic map, all the divisions are in the tokyo area or other major urban centers. all of maryland's major urban centers are in the center; there's not a lot of people in the mountains or by the beach (and I don't see any divisions being in ocean city).
chuohku would be DC of course. the hypmic rice farm would instead be a hypmic corn farm and it would be in howard county. this is all for jokes and it started because of my headcanon that rio would buy this ugly ass old bay shirt for samatoki on a trip to the US
Tumblr media
this would drastically affect hypmic due to the fact that the culture of the divisions is significant in how the characters are, so if you want to see what "baltimore samatoki" entails, i am willing to divulge more details!

Snippets of a fic I’ll never write: (3/x)
Matt Graver x small town reader
The diner is small, nondescript: the standard four walls and a dingy vinyl floor, every surface peppered with dings and scrapes and carelessness. There's a sign for it just before the freeway off-ramp, generic and unpromising: a deep blue stamped with cartoon cutlery and a fuel pump for the gas station across the street. An H for hotel is on there, too. That one's a lie, but there is lodging, in the dingy strip mall motel further up or the RV parks stashed around the valley. The types that want cash, the paper per diem. All of it—lies included—make up the tiny little holler for passengers who can't wait for the bigger city just up the interstate. Families, mostly, on road trips with children who overestimate how long they can hold it. Some tourists—usually hippies with too much sense of adventure. Van life, whatever that is. Shirking the ocean for the mountain, waves for land. They all move on quickly, though.
No one ends up here on purpose.
The people that do are the people who get stuck. They stay and pretend it's a choice, like pitching a tent by the side of a car-wreck. There’re houses splattering the dirt roads that branch off from Main Street, fences made of wire, posts stuck haphazardly every so often. Bent and wrecked, a hit and run of neglect that means nothing ever looks new around here. It may have been a sparkling little town at one point, a postcard-cute sampling of good ol' country living. Now it's been painted over with a filter called Abandoned.
No police department, nor fire. The county handles all that. "Better for the budget", as though bureaucrats have ever concerned themselves with line items like Affordable Housing or Cost of Living. None of you are worth the investment, is what they mean. Even the YIMBYs and the NIMBYs don’t bother playing tug-of-war with this scrap heap.
But it's enough. It's a life, anyway. Small and boring, a persistent trickle from dilapidated water faucets, tinted brown with oxidized metal. Boil it, and you're good. You've always been an accomplished pretender, anyway. Daydreamer. You have to be, before the day-in, day-out monotony makes you forget what real music is supposed to sound like. But the chime of the diner door brings you back to reality with a thud each and every time, marks the end of whatever symphony was filling your head, like a conductors last grand flourish. By now you have a shorter distance to fall—you know not to stray too far away. Hurts less, this way, as you leave the towel at the half wiped-down table, and head out to the front.
He saunters into this life with the noon day sun, shoulders set like he owns the place. Modestly dressed, an untucked shirt that might have looked nice when he first bought it five years ago. It all fits well, though—certainly not new, but taken care of. No accessories other than utilitarian ones. Watch. Sunglasses.
He's handsome, is your first thought, even though the glasses’ frames cut harshly into the outline of his face. Strong features though, the ones that are visible. Proud forehead, arrogant chin. It juts out when he notices you staring, cheekbones widening in a little grin as he moves the glasses to his collar.
He doesn't wait for you either, just settles himself into a seat at the counter with a view of the parking lot. You wipe your hands on your jeans, hoping there's no damp imprints now, cheeks hot as you approach him like he's the sun. He slides over, eyeing you, and doesn't look away even as you set the plastic menu in front of him.
He opens with, "Always this hot around here?" Not the worst line you've ever heard, and dropped so confidently you know that's just the way he talks; there’s no stakes in this for him.
"Not even real summer yet,” you counter. “Schools are barely out. You just wait another month, month and a half. Place’ll turn into a sauna. Now, can I start you off with something to drink?"
He doesn't hesitate. "Coffee, but—that thing it? Might need something stronger."
He tilts his head to get a look over the counter. The little drip machine looks as depressing as everything else in the place, but the bitter liquid it spews out can make a horseshoe stand upright. You don’t have time to defend the thing’s honor—just perk upright, hands on your hips.
"The closest bar is ten miles down the road. Only thing stronger I've got is the bleach under the sink."
"Stick with the coffee, then." He smiles. "No tiny little cups, ma'am. You bring that thing out in a punch bowl."
Out of spite you search for the daintiest little teacup you can find in the place. It's certainly not a punch bowl, but he toasts you with it when you set it in front of him, like you've brought him the grail.
You're bringing another table a refill of ketchup when you see him down the thing like a shot. Doesn’t even make a face, though you’ve seen grown men sputter and cough and choke on the bitterness. You quirk an eyebrow and go back to your cleaning.
He doesn’t want anything else—checking in a few times afterwards only gets you dismissed with grins and a wave of a hand. Finally, he asks for another cup, about thirty minutes after he finished the first. And then he stays, eyes now stuck to the TV up on the wall, wires duct taped strategically out of sight behind it.
Wiping down the counter a few spots next to him is a tad obvious, perhaps, but it lets you watch the news with him: big thick chyron about missing hikers; stone faced reporters with grim tones; a cut away to the grieving families issuing statements, huddled outside what looks like the county sheriff’s office.
"Awful, all that,” you pretend you’re saying to no one in particular. “Didn't use to be so bad a few years ago. Now people going missing, just on trips to the Park. Even on private land, like a couple months ago. They find ‘em sometimes…after.”
"Yeah, I imagine AKs shoved in their face didn't make it into the home movie."
He says it so flatly you almost wonder if you misheard. It’s the tone you’d have taken with a cashier who insists on chatting to you about your day, not grisly murders up in the hills.
But then he grins and stands up, slaps down what you can tell is already a disproportionately high tip, and nods to you as the sunglasses come back on.
“Excellent coffee here, though. Gonna remember that.”
The door chimes again—it can’t tell an exit from an entrance—but this time there is no thud of disappointment, no bitter fading of your daydreams as reality bleeds through. Just a thin sheen of dampness in your palms, and a jolt stronger than any caffeine patch as you pocket the tip and the note he left, the news story still playing in the background.

The locals 🏖️
-I’m not much for water anymore. I used to love the beach and pools when I was younger. But now I love hearing it and watching the ocean from a far. I had a really jam packed day when I drew this! My family and I went to breakfast, the mall, and then the beach. Other than my phone, and some headphones, all I had for entertainment was my sketchbook and 1 pen 😅 I got to listen to a lot of Rex Orange County and people watch 😌 VERY peaceful!!
I’m a few pages into sketchbook 11 🥳
Long time no post!

Aldean's place is only going to be 10,000 sqft, so about 1/3 the size of Ole Red Vegas, and it's going to be inside a mall and not right on the Strip, so the location is already setting itself up for failure, similar to Redneck Riviera that closed down.
"Country singer Jason Aldean is building a 10,000-square-foot country music bar with a rooftop deck in "63," the new shopping mall on the Strip at CityCenter"
"Clark County records indicate a building permit application for a “Vegas Country Music Restaurant” at 3716 Las Vegas Blvd. South, the address of 63 Las Vegas. Records also indicate a related permit application for an “ellipse rooftop balcony” to connect to the restaurant. The restaurant construction is valued at $9.75 million in the applications.
A person with knowledge of the project, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said the restaurant would occupy 10,000 square feet on the second and third floors of 63 Las Vegas. Ocean Prime, the sleek steak and seafood spot, sits atop 63."
=====
Wallen is not opening anything in Vegas per his reps.
"On Wednesday, in statement for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a representative for Wallen said that the musician was not opening a bar and restaurant at 63 or anywhere else in Vegas."
=========
Margaritaville is about the same size as Ole Red, and is right on the strip - some are guessing Garth, but it will have to be someone big and well-liked to be successful.

DMO: Digimon Military Operatives_56.TXT
You thought these guys were done? Well, I did too, we were wrong.
I was getting back home from my Italian class today and I entered my city's most concurred mall, and I tried to get some lunch there, however, as you've probably noticed, thunderstorms have been striking my area lately, and today wasn't the exception. A raging thunderstorm fell this afternoon and it cut the power of the mall, so I was left wandering around a mall only lightened up by the few sun rays that were able to pass through the dark storm clouds and guide the walk of the hundreds of people inside, since this is a DMO tho, you should already know that the military was hanging around this place.
While I was walking through the mall since, I honestly felt fascinated by this kind of scene, I found some soldiers talking with a few businessmen and well dressed women while taking lunch, and, of course, is just a blackout, no one should be freaking out by this, but these people were oddly... Not bothered by it, this would be normal, but since they were so confident using their electronic devices to concrete who knows what transaction, I decided to take a peek, since these guys don't know how to be NOT suspicious.
As I was passing by to gossip about their PC, I saw that Tyutyumon and Damemon were pretty interested in this, so I faked a trip and allowed both of them to connect to one of the phones connected to the PC, with a link opened between them and my Digimon DOCK, I calmly sat near them and waited while Tyutyumon and Damemon were exploring.
Sooner than I thought, the two digimon took an odd path in search of, you guessed it, WHO KNOWS WHAT. Tyutyumon only entered that terminal to search for the cyborg digimon he's so obsessed with, this however, proved to work to our advantage, since when he finally got to the place Tyutyumon was searching for, we realized it was another Digital Armery.
During December last year, I found myself fighting against Ocean Man once again inside one of these. Digital Armories are how I've named Digital Spaces created by my county's army to store data of generic weapons and copies of actual weapons used by digimon, like WarGreymon's Dramon Killers and such, so they can use the data from these weapons to build "The Ultimate Weapon", what I believe to be a Ragna Lordmon they'll use to scare other countries and maybe even iniciante wars.
Once I saw what this place actually was, I allowed Tyutyumon to go crazy and steal how much he wanted to, he, of course, happily wandered around the place recollecting data for god knows what and then, again, happily, ordered Damemon to use the Gun Vulcan to destroy what he didn't wanted, after we got that part done, I passed near the PC again, and picked them up again.
That's where I thought things ended, but sadly, this adventure has more of a bitter ending.
When I was getting out of the mall (without eating anything mind you) another thunderstorm struck, so I had to be around the mall a bit more, and ended up buying a kid's meal since I couldn't afford something else, by that moment, the power came back in a few places, which made me think that probably the few Digimon that lived there could come back and play as they usually do, but... They didn't.
I noticed while I was eating that one of the soldiers was trying to hide the fact that he was storming out, probably thanks to the Armery we quickly destroyed a few minutes ago, a discussion between the soldiers and the Well Dressed People began as soon as they noticed the lack of weapons, I found this a bit funny, but my little chuckle wouldn't last that long, because they quickly solved it by assuming someone stole them, and sent out their Digimon to search for them.
I have no means to know which digimon belonged to who, aside from a Sealsdramon that clearly belonged to a lower rank official that was there to just take care of the PC, the two higher rank officials that were there probably were the ones with Giga Seadramon and Heavy Leomon, not everyone in that desk had a Digimon, none of the two Well Dressed Women appeared to command any digimon, since I only saw four.
That only leaves us with the two businessmen, and since I was already trying to deal with the two Ultimates running at us, but I can say, WITHOUT A DOUBT, that one of those businessmen
Was commanding a Snatchmon.
Just a few minutes of searching were enough for them to find that there were active Digimon around, not only the Digimon that live in the mall, but mine too. As soon as I noticed that they were following us, I stopped the blending show and sent Arcturusmon to deal with Giga Seadramon, Cannondramon to fight Heavy Leomon, Canoweissmon to face Sealsdramon, and MegaloGrowmon to deal with Snatchmon.
Using his drills, Arcturusmon easily dealt with Giga Seadramon's Giga Sea Destroyer, swirling the beams around them and refiring them with minuscule amounts of GRB Factor that made Giga Seadramon flinch and faint without having to use one of Arcturusmon's actual attacks, since that could end up in one of the digimon that live in the mall getting infected, and we don't want that.
Regarding Cannondramon's fight against Heavy Leomon, things went way less smoothly, since both of the digimon fighting were pretty heavy, they mainly shoot long ranged attacks, however, Heavy Leomon took advantage of his Resting Burner's firing to propel itself to Cannondramon, and the only thing Cannondramon was able to do about it was slowing him down with the Grenade Storm. Being a "New-gen" digimon, Heavy Leomon has more advanced skills than Cannondramon, so it got him into a problem when Heavy Leomon got inside Cannondramon's closer range to use the Sonic Excavator, at this range, it would be impossible for Cannondramon to defend himself, however, using the Dyna Cannon to distance himself from Heavy Leomon, he got back a few steps, enough for him to throw a Grenade Storm, with enough precision for more than one of them to fall inside Heavy Leomon's Pile Bunker, so when he tried to close the gap to use the Sonic Excavator again, the vibration created an explosive chain that damaged heavily the Pile Bunker, leaving the digimon out of combat.
Canoweissmon's fight went way smoother than the last two, being a Perfect against an Adult, and the fact that he can fly, made the fight end quick, which let him go over with MegaloGrowmon and help him fight Snatchmon, who has been blocking the Atomic Blasters with his tail, preventing the attack to come out, Snatchmon saw that another perfect got to him, so he decided to try and eat Sealsdramon, however, I summoned Damemon and Tyutyumon to use the Gun Vulcan to avoid this, since eating that Sealsdramon would be both a problem for us, and a horrible move from its part, Snatchmon's desperation however, reached levels that we weren't really expecting.
It grabbed Tyutyumon with its tail, and even tho Damemon tried his best to hurt the tail and force it to stop the attack, Tyutyumon was badly hurt, my guess is that Snatchmon was aiming to make him explode and absorb his data, however, MegaloGrowmon quickly flew there and used the Pendulum Blades to cut the tail, freeing Tyutyumon, who, to badly hurt, could continue with us, Snatchmon, sadly, could go on for a little more too tho, so he aimed at Damemon, and pushed him out of the way with its claws, and ate Sealsdramon.
I quickly got Damemon and everyone else into the backup, and got out of there.
Before I could ask him to do it, Tyutyumon got Damemon into the Tyutyu Lab, and began repairing him. I don't have any means to know if the soldiers got their Digimon back, but something tells me that they did.
The Snatchmon however... I know it's wandering around, whoever is the Tamer, either doesn't care about it, or benefits from it traveling freely around the city, so I'll have to be more careful in that mall from now on, as of now, we've faced three Snatchmon, and I'm pretty sure more are yet to come, but the fact that TWO of them are tied with those Well Dressed People forces me to believe that they're probably part of the military's plan to build Ragna Lordmon... Somehow.
I don't know who these people are, or if they have a separate goal from the Military, but I don't have a way to check on that either, but seeing that they're so close to each other, I'll have to assume that they're somehow related, and thus, share a similar goal.
Damemon is getting repaired at the moment, Tyutyumon, Cannondramon and Kuzuhamon are helping and doing their best efforts to make it feel better, but I'll have to check on them soon and see what I can do to help.

So it's my birthday tomorrow.
I thought about sharing my thoughts regarding my aunt and uncles passing, and everything they took with them, but I don't think I will. Here's some memories from them instead.
When I was ten, my sister and I went to the Salina mall, which was dying even back then. The arcade was hopping though, and we found a side-scrolling, 4 player X-men game. It was fun, but we were no good at it. This group of teenage boys came up and I thought they were going to kick us off, but instead they took turns on the other two player slots and carried us through the game. I remember the thrill of it, that very human connection of strangers coming together to overcome a challenge. That this gang of teens looked at us and decided they were gonna help these little girls win the game. I never got their names, and I never saw them again, but I hope the stresses of living in a small midwestern town were not overwhelming to them.
The Flint Hills are some of the most beautiful country I've ever been through. The prevailing thought about Kansas is that it's flat as a board, but that isn't really the case. The hills are low, yes, but they roll like waves on the ocean. There is movement in the land. It's mostly pastureland with some prairie restoration areas. When we went out in the summer for the county fair, it was a million shades of green, dotted with wildflowers and cows. But when we went for Thanksgiving, the land was precious metals; copper, silver, gold, rusted iron. A world of autumn color without the need for trees. The sunset fills the entire sky.
The grass is different in Kansas, from what we have here. In my aunt and uncles lawn, and at their farm, with the lilac bushes where I saw my first swallowtail butterfly. It stays low, and its leaves grow sideways, at angles. They interlock and form a soft cushion that feels very nice to walk on. It's probably invasive; the whole area was big and little bluestem once. That was long before me.
I'll probably never see it again. They were the only reason we ever went out to that town. Now they're gone, and the farm will be sold, and the house I spent so much time in will be sold, and all of these things are behind me now. But tomorrow is my birthday.

Dream 3/8/2023
I was flying into a foreign county. I landed in a strange place. I was with family members and friends, Bill and Tammy were the only ones I can remember because we were on the way to Perth. The country in question was almost entirely unknown. It was a strange strip of land in the middle of the South Pacific. I remember someone saying their time zone was the only one in the world that went by it. “Ocean time” they called it. I could literally see waves of salt water all around, but there were residential neighborhoods and a Main Street full of businesses. The residents were almost entirely black. I remember there being a mugging in the broad daylight and a bunch of other residents coming in to stop it. A tourist guy took us to the airport. It looked more like a shopping mall. The mysterious country didn’t want us to leave. It was freaky

The Unshakeable Resilience of Lahaina, One Year After the Wildfires

The Unshakeable Resilience of Lahaina, One Year After the Wildfires
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the elder’s call of “Kani Ka Pū,” the sound of the conch shell echoes across Hanakaʻōʻō Beach Park, summoning hundreds of surfers and outrigger canoe paddlers to the water. They paddle out, their silhouettes stark against the horizon, to honor the 102 lives lost to the Maui wildfires one year ago.
Onshore, the community gathers in shared purpose: groups that have emerged from the ashes lead lei-making workshops, screen print “LAHAINA STRONG” onto clothing, and provide free childcare for families still rebuilding their lives. Faith leaders, hotel workers, and small business owners join hands in prayer and song, their voices mingling with the ocean breeze, a testament to the enduring spirit of Lahaina.
A year ago, wildfires devastated my beloved Maui. Today, on the anniversary of those tragic events, I reflect on the remarkable resilience and unity that has blossomed from the charred remains.
Read More: The Climate Crisis and Colonialism Destroyed My Maui Home. Where We Must Go From HereIn those first chaotic days, Maui rallied together, materializing over a dozen hubs of hope across beach parks, parking lots, and abandoned malls. These community resiliency hubs became lifelines, processing millions of food, clothing, and supply donations. World Central Kitchen flanked local culinary heroes like Sheldon Simeon and Mark Noguchi of Maui Chef Hui to provide thousands of hot meals to survivors at these hubs.
These hubs were beacons of hope while corporate landowners scurried for cover and FEMA’s aid trickled in too slowly. But the community knew it needed more durable support.Indigenous and immigrant elders offered their blessings to a new generation of community leaders—service workers like Paʻele Kiakona, expectant mothers like Jordan Rudias and Courtney Lazo, and immigrants caseworkers like Veronica Mendoza Jachowski—who, despite their grief and losses, were already out tending to their neighbors: from coordinating clothing drives, to serving as pro-bono translators and repairing rooftops. They, and many other young leaders, were thrust into leadership to shepherd our island’s recovery.
They drew upon the enduring legacies of civil rights leaders, plantation labor organizers, the protectors of Mauna Kea, Ka Lāhui Hawaiʻi, and the Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana, embodying their spirit of steadfast hoʻomana (a yearning for community power) and Aloha ʻĀina (a profound patriotism and connection to our land).
Under the banner of “Lahaina Strong,” volunteers carried out extensive needs assessment surveys, coordinated essential services like childcare and mental health support, and established networks of mutual aid. Having gained their communities’ trust and consolidated their influence, they then aimed for the throes of power.
Past disasters demonstrate that true recovery requires sustained effort at all levels—regulatory, legislative, and communal. Although grassroots fundraising for Maui was significant, the staggering $5.5 billion needed for full recovery was met with governmental intervention. Recognizing this disparity, Lahaina mobilized against the colonial institutions that historically controlled our island’s resources.
Their movement, embodied by hundreds in “Lahaina Strong” shirts testifying at public forums, gained unanimous Maui County Council support and directed state legislation.
The months-long occupation at Kaʻanapali Beach became a focal point of their movement, symbolizing their right to the land and their determination to reclaim our community spaces. Here, amidst the throngs of tourists, they set up camp to “fish for housing,” a nod to the cultural renaissance of the 1970’s when Native Hawaiian leaders secured constitutional rights to access public resources for traditional gathering practices.
This served not only as a media flashpoint to draw attention to the thousands of families still unhoused but also as an educational hub. Handcrafted Lahaina Strong ornaments were sold for $100 each, raising tens of thousands of dollars in direct aid over the holidays and increasing awareness among visitors, transforming their understanding of Maui’s plight.
The results have shocked Hawaii’s power structure. The Lahaina community’s efforts have so far yielded over a billion dollars in government aid, as well as rectifying a wrongful dismissal of a Native Hawaiian government worker, and reclaiming tens of thousands of illegal vacation rentals by fire survivors and other local families.
Lahaina has pioneered a new model for disaster recovery that shifts focus from charity to change, setting a precedent as climate disasters become more frequent globally. This model has sparked one of the most impactful responses to disaster seen in modern times by not just aiding, but empowering impacted people to lead their own recovery efforts.
However, their work is far from finished. The utility that sparked the devastating blaze has no mandate to improve its infrastructure, and the invasive grasses that fueled the fires remain. Meanwhile, local streams, once lifeblood for Lahaina, are still controlled by colonial interests, and unchecked pollution continues to exacerbate global climate change.

Corporate polluters and land owners must be held accountable for environmental and social damages. More land, both locally and nationwide, should be designated for conservation and entrusted to its indigenous inhabitants. Their stewardship is crucial for fostering resilient communities and reversing biodiversity loss. But the momentum is on Maui’s side. With a blank slate and newfound power, Lahaina is poised to reinvent itself as a world leader in nature-based, modern solutions—like community solar, regenerative farming, agro-energy, and ecotourism—and a new crop of leaders have emerged to steer us home.
As the ceremony concludes, a single 45-foot outrigger canoe glides back to shore, its paddlers moving in tune with the ocean’s currents. Guided by their ancestors and propelled by the power of Kanaloa, the guardian of the ocean, they embody the strength of generations past and present. Their paddles dip rhythmically into the water—”hut, hut, ho”—in such perfect synchrony that the crowns of their heads remain steady on the horizon.
This unity, a rareness in today’s polarized society, is what sustained the original inhabitants of Malu ʻUlu o Lele, the ancient name of Lahaina Town, for centuries. It is the same unity that will heal this island and nourish its people to flourish anew.

He says it too you're all a bunch of nags and it's your description of the word you're saying he's not who he is and we do kill you for it s here any of you
we have a couple more announcements and we're making them all of us and it's huge
-there are two armies headed towards the ship in the North and both of them are more like armies. One by the East and one by the West. They're both very large and they already have Army's there and in the tunnels these areas are huge, it's the same scenario in Russia and in the upper European area they also have giant fleets heading up there and in force and to the parent sea and to Greenland and Iceland area and they're checking Greenland and they found another ship these forces are in addition to the 1% and are approximately 2.5% of the general population and that would drop them to 6.5% off Island if they lost them haven't been saying this for a while but it's happening right now they're sending more troops to the deserts and there are approximately probably half a percent it's going to be a huge day today and we don't want to say what we want to happen we might jinx these idiots.
-there's a number of people who are not believing it so they're checking and more luck are joining the race and the percentages are going up probably a percent at each battlefront out of the two
-there is a third battlefront here Charlotte county it is really the McDonald's it's an infight versus morlock and it's kind of stupid but they're fighting for territory and that's what they're doing and very hard and it's going to stop soon we think so there organizing now they're still 30 households out there and yes 10 more joined up there are 50 households left in the neighborhood from the original crew from thousands of years ago and from here. They're organizing a huge Force and they're going to attack the 14th ring and more McDonald's have come down and it takes stuff and leave and the max are pleased. They plan to go both ways that the interior and have hired for around 400,000 people it's a massive battle that's going to take place momentarily I usually goes very quickly. We anticipate that they will lose they usually do and they never bring the right armament. They're going up against huge battle tanks and battle groups that are organized. Fairly soon be more lock will try to attack citadel and the max have about 20 large remaining on Earth at about 50 medium and they're going to attack those particular citadel and we think that they're going to stay to those but we are issuing orders for us to build up in case and that will require another percentage if they lose bringing them to 5%, and we have to watch it here as they get small I'll try to bring him to the island to clone like madness and run their plan. We are attuned to it now and installing five megabases below while they're very large.
-there's one more large battle it is ensuing and intensifying it is over diamonds. Huge huge forces are heading towards the empty holes in the far north and there's several there's five and that's where a big trees tap Roots were and they are seeking these diamonds and it is going to be gigantic. My son asks and daughter is there a huge Stone shift in Florida's tap Roots. Well we checked recently and we don't see it and there are diamonds here and they're fighting over them here and people have ways of doing it underwater it is a war here and people are dying from it and that is one reason why there's this infight. This war is developing but today it's half a percent of the population and different groups of fighting and including the Max and foreigners and fiercely mostly they are fighting Tommy f as soon he'll be out because of it
-there's several other small battles by comparison but still very large one of them is at sea over Lilith and the other ocean the devil. It is humongous by comparison to prior battles and people are impressed and the land war over the national Mall cathedral and the church in Spain Spain cathedral and it is a nasty looking building and has people who are fried it's glued to it and someone went nuts on it and they were wrong and the other battles are over the keys and that is to activate the demons, over other ships and it's ongoing everywhere especially below here there's only a few more days left and they're cleared out and the water table should be dropping shortly, and a slew of other fights that are taking place one of the major fights is
-the max having a comeback and as we mentioned it's the top two wars right now is the deserts and they're fighting everywhere and getting a lot of resistance mostly from warlock they're going to come down on them pretty hard they're saying they're us doing it we're not doing it that much and they're going to strike very hard the McDonald's too are attacking them and it's because they say they lost reason and more or less they do seem that way we think they'll lose another percent all accounted for the warlock are heading for a day when they lose approximately 8% of their population across the board with different races but most of it is did we left with roughly 4% off Island and that doesn't account for Island losses which might be one or 2% and dropping it down to 10% on the island but all of the islands and the others aren't that big but you would still say that you're pretty good sized.
-there are miscellaneous battles that are occurring what is over our son's money which really is Max money if you labels at our sons and he says no one can use it and that's the Max and you can't have money unless he gets the cash I was just not really true but it could be everyone's fighting over it to grab it for some reason be the one who gets some money I guess and use it the way they did and they regret telling people stuff and these idiots were telling them way too much they're trying to silence them it's going on now. Heavy fighting and a lot of it and over artifacts very heavy Fighting
-similar to small battles several other small battles have ensued lots of them are over drinking but no it's over heirlooms and things that they think will protect ships and tons and tons of it and they're going after Trump
-a huge war is developing over stashes and cashes of trump and company and they are horrified and should have shut up the whole time eventually though they would have gotten to them but they're at the parks and people have found huge piles of historical items and relics and antiquities and their son's stuff and a whole bunch of number one items prototypes designs and schematics and their going nuts fighting each other and gold and diamonds that are huge whole bunch of 10 mi diamonds are being pulled out and Trump's just exterminated and they found bugs and they destroyed the bugs and Trump doesn't do well against those and they also found bugs in the aquifer in Florida and all over they're trying to get the crap out of the rivers and it's in order to remove the bugs and I can't seem to do that and and the bugs are not helping with regards to fecal matter and remove them elsewhere would be fine cuz there's not much fighting down there in the water. They are having it done and it is dangerous and the paying teams and boy is gross. You kill off a bunch of little ones so big ones to eat them some of them eat each other and you just keep doing it eventually have just a few big ones to call out of there so we saw it happening and figured out something you have to chop it up to get it out but that's the only way to do it when you get harmed. And then they pick up and they go after a trumpsters and bja very hard.
-they're losing their status and caches in the cities too they are losing them on the island and it is fast and bja is attacking others came by this morning foreigners there's a huge war at the parks and it's getting bigger mostly more luck it will trim them down another percent today could be the biggest loss they could be brought to 3% off Island and the cloning is going to be destroyed and Tommy f
-huge forces are at his ships and the morlock are trying to get in and are getting killed they're competing and they suck giant numbers of people are trying to grow cocoa in Bavaria and other and are not successful and getting beat up
-there are other battles and they're important and we studied the situation or their son and funds and these idiots don't seem to want to do anything and they're crud and their sticks in the mud and they think they're going to get something by holding him hostage and we are starting to treat it as a hostage situation and a real threat we're moving bases in and huge ones and everyone is going to hate this s*** out of you losers as the ship sleeve we are able to move in and of course they won't stop they are about 75% out, we anticipate most of them will be vacated by the end of this coming week and that the peninsula will depressurize fully and that the muck will be blow out of all the harbors and rivers and if you want to harvest it you have to do it now and some people actually getting out there to harvest it because they have plants elsewhere and you know it works use tobacco fields are prepped in Florida Mac Daddy has the biggest and that's what the video this is what you get is about and they're trying to light it up for a plane to drop stuff on it and they end up arrested. It's a huge deal but we look at his funding and we see them in the way like all of them since they're a bunch of huge assholes about it and just have the biggest miles we come in and wipe them out and it's more than back and we wipe them out today there's going to be a huge war and they will be wiped out they're going to try and make more and people are going to stop them there's another added battle and that is an a foot war against the warlock. Wherever they go they wanted people and it's flipping Dan off and it says you're a strange looking fella bud don't get killed out there cuz they're hunting you like you're a gazelle or a deer or a pig a hog if I was says he gets it he finally says he gets it and we think it's that last one.
-in addition to that the clones are being sought for The matrix and transferring brains and roboticizing people and possible knowledge of what the status of Saturday is, they are also being sought for holding people in tombs which is actually extremely illegal, they're in trouble for putting people in the museum and plasticizing them first which is massively illegal, they're in trouble for harassment of society in general and of our son and the two engineers and others and they are being sought on special warrant for going after the clans and taking them down and then tubing them and taking all their stuff and they're being sought by everybody for keys for ships and they use the crimes above as excuses it's a huge day today is gigantic it is a massive fight that has been brewing for a long time between these parties and we are mobilizing everything and we can't stand any of them it completely heinous getting him money has been the hardest thing we've ever done and is valuable to your realm of your pieces of s*** you're absolute s*** everything out of your mouth is crap and mathematics of yours and you're telling everybody tells you and dying because of and you won't stop or slow down in any way and now everyone is saying you're getting out and you're stepping off more luck plus it's the max plan in the beginning it doesn't help the max it doesn't help you idiots to run around screaming that's what it is but boy you pathetic little losers he hates the s*** out of you doesn't want to be near you cuz he can't stand you without you start pestering him that's going on is a systematic extermination of the warlock and it's led by the max you're trying to attack them at the deserts and it'll probably be abismal.
-there's another battle and it is between Stan Mack Mostly is slightly aligned against the warlock. They're in here fighting over places to stay all the time and minority more luck hate the Macklemore too they are moving in and taking over neighborhoods and take you over houses that are empty and they came down last night after the battle in very large numbers and the max doesn't like it but it is the way to do business. There's a very large population of them now out of the population of Florida these particular groups are about 60 to 70%, we're about 20% and the remainder of morlock and they're getting pushed out they're getting arrested they're getting put in prison they're getting extradited and they're being expelled.
There's several more battles going on we're going to publish now though to get it out there
